"What's the guy's name? Let me look it up. What's dick for meal is the coach of man, I think he was actually the ranch coach. Hold on. Steelers, defensive core denature. Dick lebeau, dick labeau is who I'm thinking of. So he was a defensive genius. He had all these crazy exotic blitzes and dick for me. Dick lebeau. I knew it was a sound terrible, but why do people name their kids dick or Richard? I never would do that to my kid, because it's a bad idea. Anyway, the Steelers had all kinds of crazy exotic blitzes. They would blitz anybody at any time coming after the quarterback. Contemporary on quarterback, I don't think at the time was equipped to deal with that. I bet even today Tom Brady would have a hard time against a defense like that because it's dealing a blitz sucks, especially when you're having a hard time identifying where it's coming from. And the Steelers just oh man. So Brady talked about it with a lot of humility saying like, you know, I was scared and I was rattled by the blitzes that the Pittsburgh defense was coming after. So, you know, not only because he was, you know, being hurt was a good excuse for Belichick to take Brady out, but Brady was also rattled. I mean, Belichick, you know, Brady in this interview could have said, yeah, I was just hurt, but he was pretty clear like I also kind of got benched. That's what happened. And in comes through blood cell plays fantastic leads the Patriots to the Super Bowl and you're like, what a weird turn of events. The same thing that happened to caused your blood so to lose his job in week two of the 22,001 NFL season happens to get an AFC title game. And then there's this controversy like, are you gonna go with Drew Bledsoe for the Super Bowl or is maybe 'cause your butt's will play great and came in when Tom Brady wasn't playing great. Or are you gonna go back to Tom Brady? And drew mentions that he remembers Tom being really fired up for him in that moment, which is hard to do. And then they talk about the Super Bowl and Brady mentions like, yeah, I wasn't even old enough to get a rental car in New Orleans, which by the way I'm 24. I'm still not old enough to easily get a rental car. I had to get triple-A when I moved here and get to be able to get around there. It's a pain in the butt. It's crazy. You can't get a rental car till you're 25, but you can get you could join the army. You can get plaster drunk. You can do all kinds of stuff, but God forbid, you can't drive a rental car, but you can die in the military..

"Justin school who is a pretty good run blocker the more they're in third and longs into those obvious passing situations to get behind the chains now Jimmy's gonna probably have to hold the ball longer think about it and when you watch the Steelers they blitz almost all the time off yet Tom and keep others from though he he coached under Dick lebeau they're sending pressures and they're sending the same pressures there's nothing there's no wrinkles in as deep as we go out that one caught us off guard so they're pretty transparent in what they do but you get into the third and longs and now you're gonna have to get school a little bit of help whether that be a tight end or you know backside guard the the Steelers with those glitches they eat up the running backs I call on you know their green dog and they're not really rushing unless the guy stays and protect them know Russian if he goes out they'll try to rush to cover so they get on a minute back you'll get their hands on it so that means really only three guys out the route I mean Jimmy drop was gonna pull the football longer that means guys the three guys that are out of going to have to win versus man coverage because I think if you watch the Steelers week one at New England it was almost all men yeah and I got slapped around pretty good now yeah you watch him against Russell Wilson in Seattle on there was a mix between zone and man he had three sacks in the first four pass attempts in that game they get after it the bottom line is Jim is going to have to be. better than he was last week and they've got to be able to run the football on the other side defend the run control the line of scrimmage and put it on Mason Rudolph's arm and see what he can do and I think we're gonna see more man coverage in this game and we've seen over the first time the forty Niners make it a bigger challenge for Rudolph who certainly checks all the boxes when you when you look at is his skill sets and watch them on tape in the pre season and and certainly last week twelve nineteen with two touchdown so I'm interested to see how he does that he's gonna be under some pressure to pre season sixty five percent completion percentage for over three hundred sixty eight yards four touchdowns..

"I'm trying to think how many takeaways and the red zone last year you know where the other team was originally took it away. I know they did it in Tampa. When and <hes> I can't remember who tipped the ball but my kilt netted up at the interception on ball bostick got his hands on it you know which which is a really big deal you get into that red zone and eat and you come away with no points? That's what you will also really like but I kinda like to know because obviously I don't know this off the top of my head. Even though you try to say on the Oracle All steelers knowledge where did the steelers Dick Dick Lebeau defenses where they had that tendency to be called bend but don't break they'd give up the yardage but they'd really dig in and hold keep the teams out of the end zone. I wonder where they where they sat with red. John Deficiency Probably top-five probably top five because those defenses gave up gave up <hes> didn't give up a ton of points but the interesting thing about this that it doesn't necessarily tie directly two points you give up per game so it's so you could have a terrible red zone defense but you only give up one red zone Trivia game unless you know you can give up sixteen red zone trips in sixteen games and give up a touchdown in each. You'd be giving up seven points a game. which are your red zone? Efficiency would be dead last one hundred percent so it can't be misleading if you don't really pill it back and take a look at the stat so you know maybe a more important stat than this would be red zone attempts. That's what I was thinking. Times did the team get into the red zone on you. Get your constantly really keeping them out of the red zone. That's great now but the thing that that doesn't take into account is when teams score long touchdowns against you yeah so you know subtlety considered a red zone thirty yards in now yeah you know with the with the passing games in N._F._l.. So there's no different score from the thirty five as opposed to the twenty but in theory to your point you wanNA prevent red zone trips exactly and I I like what you said about thinking about the red zone being the thirty because basically that's field goal range once you reach field goal range that in essence should be the the the the staff that you're looking at is did the team get into field goal range or not so yeah this is this is interesting. The steelers weren't terrible at red zone percentage but it is an area that they could they could improve so so so that's five and say which one you think is the most important is anybody anybody in the live chat. Anybody in the live. Chat commenting see snowman was saying that they need to be in the top ten for when we were talking about the about the red zone efficiency. I haven't been looking back too much so yeah. That's something to throw out of the live chat which one of these five stats it was turnover margin <hes> I'm just going to cut it down to these slash ones just one of them turnover margin field goal efficiency yards per point rushing attempts and red zone defense. Which one do you feel is the one that they need to improve approve on the most in order to get to the playoffs be successful in the playoffs and ultimately Hoy Sat Lombardi Trophy Dan? I hate to do the obvious one but I just hate to do the obvious one as bad as they were in terms of turnovers in turnover margin it has to be that it has to be that it really has to be that when I was thinking that maybe as we talk through this maybe it's another one <hes> the other one would be red zone defense defense. I think so if I were to rank them it would be turnovers.

Because I still think he's a really good head coach. You know? I think I think I think he's a good head coach. I don't I don't I wouldn't putting this great because I feel like a great coach takes good players does great things with them. I think I think he has great players over here. Kathy would be a kicker punchier. Kathy would be my kicker. No. You'd be my field goal kicker. Okay. You be young young. Young kim. Young waco's. Yes. Yeah. I said I said young young Kim, but the dodgers in young Waco with the chargers. Kathy would be Kathy would be my short field goal specialist. Of inside thirty because the accuracy is Rick. I don't know if you've ever seen her kick. She's a ninety two percent field goal maker inside of thirty. Yeah. She played soccer got a good leg. All right. You nailed them. What about Rick? Rick would be again based on things. He's told me in the past. I would put Rick as a safety. I would not put him at running back, although he played some running back you say free or storm his day. I would put you at strong safety. We'd we'd we'd bring the safety down the box a lot. So because I think it goes on big tackle you'd be a good size safe. Okay. We are. We are we talking about present day. Like, you've got the hip replacement and all that. Now, let's take that out of the mix. Dave, okay. Let's say. Back in the day younger version of me. I think safety twenty-five Rick may wanna play running back on the team. But I I would just remind him that the talented. White running backs in the NFL over the years you could count on one hand with fingers leftover so your chances to play safety. I think are much stronger. Maybe a tight e too short. I don't I don't think he's big enough. He's about to ten so he'd be by today's standards he'd be a smallish he'd have to play wide receiver. I think safety is his spot. Okay. And I would agree. How fast Rick ran a four six. So we're going to play a lot of zone. We're gonna play. We're not going to get involved man to man coverage too much. And it was so strong safety. Probably would work pretty good. Yeah. If we do you're gonna wind up right on top of the tide in six, and you're going to your your task at that point is do not let him off the line of scrimmage. I could I could cover tight ends. I used to be a corner, but I played cornerback in in high school. It was pretty good cornerback. See my previously uttered statement in terms of your race in how many talented NFL Cornerbacks. Are they better? Look like you. This is an NFL assess the NFL. Yeah. Seahorn right. Now. White Roger wurley? I think back in the seven train lane was black, right? Hello, dick lebeau. Dick lebeau hall of fame player to have a face mask. Addicted because we you'd have to play zone 'cause I was four six also so cover touts his speed, not your way. Six. All right. I think Zane Beatles. Told me he ran a four six. No, I'd be Shan. That was in the twenty-five was not in the forty shocked. That's what he told me. He goes because we are talking about racing. And he goes, I ran a four six Beatles was a pretty good athlete for an offensive lineman. But offensive linemen usually run five. What if you break five flat is an offensive lineman. Everybody goes. I was thinking about you. I would have liked to see you play quarterback play quarterback had a great career as a wide in high school. Let's forget that happen. And then I got I got moved to quarterback my second year with the Browns in the off season went employees all through training camp as a quarterback, and then probably lucky for me the guy that was playing starting at wide receiver Paul Warfield pulled a hamstring. And coach Gregg said, I know you've been a quarterback the whole camp. I'm gonna put you back at X, and I wound up starting at x week one against the Cincinnati Bengals. So yeah, if I was your coach, I would have had you quarterback because you are the best athletes on the team the best player on the team. You want to have the ball in your hands every every down and with your size. You've got NFL quarterback size. And it turns out you could also run. So that's where I would have had you. And and you played that in high in high school, not college though, did not play in college. And then got was a strange story got was playing when we were back in a minicamp. And I told the star before quickly. Forrest Gregg was the head coach in Blanton Collier had been a previous head coach of the Browns. He was elderly at that point in a consultant and he walked up to me. And I'm wearing eighty-five. He said, son. Are you a quarterback or wide receiver restaurant? I'm a wide receiver. So. Okay. Turned and walked women thinking man that was weird. What was that about? I get called into the head. Coach's office after the practice. Coach Gregg said coach call your saw you throw the ball and thinks that you can play quarterback. I said, you know, I told him I played a little bit in high school in law. He said, well, would you? I'd like to make that move. If you if you go with, and I'm thinking, you're you're kidding me. Right. So so they they movie too wide receiver. I mean moving to quarterback, and you know, you try to learn the offense and all the all the stuff, and and then as I said late late and camp Paul Warfield got injured. And they put me back at X you had a wonderful career as a wide receiver. But do you have any any second thoughts? I do now since you brought it up I'm thinking well damn I mean, I could've played quarterback in the league. And no could have probably made more money. Yeah. Well in probably been you think a little bit healthier, right? I mean, you wanna get hit as muddle get hit quite as much although back, then listen, they could they could Balasko quarterback blasted receivers. But they blasted quarterbacks to absolutely interesting..

"I haven't had an opportunity or radio to comment. What you about that? Yeah. Tell me what your thoughts were. You know, my first thought is that it said right speaks to our community. And I think you, and I both talk about this a lot. You know, we're putting a position where we have to have an unbiased stance about sports, right? As we analyze it. As we give our opinion. A lot of times if you're an African American man, and and you especially being a former player you're seen as a sell-out if you don't back everything black, right? You're you're seeing as somebody who is who is dancing for master. If you don't back everything bland his words. Yeah. Yeah. You know? And you're an Tom. So for me, it really wasn't worth replying really wasn't worth going back and forth. Because I think there's a minutes in the statement. Right. And I don't believe you address it in that manner enough. And you did the same thing had the John wall situation if he wants to address that with me face to face, that's fine. I wasn't going to let it play out for the world. I didn't feel like it was for everybody. Because and so for me, I still feel the same way. I feel that his behavior is tearing down the team, and we've talked about it so much I admiration for Mike tea, and I go for that. He would tell people very, honestly, he's my friend, right? Like I root for him. I wanna Sonal why. While mike. Want to see him do well in the things that Tonio Brown or doing are in direct opposition of might t succeeding? But what about people who would look at you Ryan and asked a question 'cause you divulge the one time where you gotta confrontation because you didn't like the fact that he cussed out former defensive coordinator, dick lebeau stuff like that. What about those who heard you reveal that knowing your former teammate of his combining that with the fact that you're friends with Mike tea, and and as a result, they look at you and say either their question you object to be this as a teammate, you should never divulged things. What do you say that people end? So so so so what I'll say about this is as a teammate. I never would have said it got right? If if it was during that time, and that was something somebody asked me, I wouldn't have said it got to ask you about the ultra -cation out of played it on. We just got into it a practice. It was what it was let it be right. It's not what I am any more. I'm not a team. Right. And so not. Teammate. I can be honest. I'm also not a friend. There are some things that go on. And Pittsburgh that I know of that I've been told that I don't see, and then I'll won't say because they've been divulged to me by and just to remind everybody Utah guy that was on the team won the Super Bowl championship with the Steelers. Right. And that's where it's coming from. And so, and so, and so here's what I'll say to people that say, I shouldn't have said it, and I'll say this, and I hope everybody hears me who's listening. I still protect him. Right. There are more stories that though aren't relevant necessarily to vis situation that could paint a picture of him in a certain way that I will not tell from different perspectives from different people because those stories aren't my stories, right? The story I told his mind, right? It was about what I thought when I saw him. What I thought before he got his deal and what transpired between us. There are other things that I won't say that I won't talk about that could probably both through my argument that could probably make me. Seen in a better light that I will not do because they're not relevant to this situation. They're not relevant to me in this. And I won't do those things last question on Antonio Brown. I'm not trying to train them Ryan clock. I. I know. Listen to you. Receptions, post-season straight years. Wait a minute. Wait. Tell him. I listen to you. Ryan tell him it. I mean, you got a lift its juju Smith, a bad, brother. But but then the gather do can't do what they can do to gather..

"M? Moore is a contributor. No. I'm talking over, all encompassing. Well, that's my whole. But on the other words, thi this is the difference. And let me just say, okay. If he was a it was he was put in a contributor. Okay. Then I think that's where we you know, it's weird as a monitor finalists because I need to have this defined to me by the hall of fame. What is it that we're evaluating Tom Flores on right? Is it his playing career? Is it his coaching career? Or is it someone who has been around the game and continue and continue to contribute to it through the years away. The Tom floors did. Well, you remember what they did with dick lebeau? Dick lebeau was by no standard a hall of fame player. He just wasn't. He was a good player. But he was never a hall of fame player. But it was the body of work that even though he got inducted as a player really got him into the hall of fame. Right. And you know, listen to what's a hall of fame without a guy who's been around the NFL for fifty something years. Exactly. I mean, that's the thing. And that's why I think Tom floors. He may have that momentum because real quick, I know we're running out of time here. Think about who we got going in out of these five okay spot. We got read going in as a first ballot. No doubt. Right. Tony gonzales. Go down the first ballot, right? Yep. To enchant Bailey. Maybe. Yeah. Right. I yeah. Okay. So we'll say Tampa three spots left true spots left. And we got twelve guys in some guys have been in that room for years, and then does Tom floor split the vote because some guys who voted for coryell, they won't vote for two coaches. Right. You know as far as getting whittling willing down the list. It's so messy. I gotta I gotta think fantasy is one of those two spots. So then we got one spot left for eleven guy. The big question is do you continue to get in the room? Tom floors doesn't get in this year. Does he get back next year? And I say that because Everson walls isn't back right. You know, we may never vote on them again. But if you stick around long enough, and you get to be a finalist, usually you find your way into induction and Cam, I could go all day on the stuff. I could go on all day. You know that Alex Alex as always a happy new year to you. Great to talk to you as always. I will talk to you again tomorrow. As a matter of fact, indeed, I'm looking forward to in the next Saturday. Hopefully, you'll be with the Walter camp awards in New Haven, Connecticut. To allow our parents from there. Yeah. A lot of big names. Larry Fitzgerald's fine. Hopefully, we'll have an update as to what fits thinking about twenty nineteen and beyond tell them tell them curious that Hello. I love him. I I promise I will get to covered,.

"Like, hey that was the wrong guy to give money. You know, he was yelling at dick lebeau, who's a legend who's not only a football legend. But a Pittsburgh Steelers legend that just tells me that this guy has been out of control for a long time. How long has Mike Tomlin been having to deal with this? You talk about the three Bs. You may be down to only one because I don't understand how going forward you allow this to be a member of your football team. I think already juju much like we talked about yesterday. With santoni. Oh, homes and Antonio Brown becoming a number one receiver. Now, Judy we got the team MVP. But you need your best players to be the best people. We understand he's a hard worker. But you can't be a diva not to this extent. And he he is so fish and he threw the ball at the wrong person the one person on that team that he probably couldn't win through ownership is Ben Rothlisberger. Because Ben Rothlisberger is bigger than him. And he didn't understand his place on the totem pole. I don't understand how you come back from this. But you can't move them. Because who's going what are you going to get for arguably just the best receiver in a game? But it got it. She just gave a sixty eight million dollars extension tool years. The problem is is the you can't move him. Even if someone wants to give you great draft compensation for him. And even if you think juju is era parent, they they gave him that extension February of twenty seventeen but more importantly, they restructured it one year in. So this. Convoluted salary cap stuff. But what people need to know is this if they trade or cut in Tonio Brown, they have a twenty one million dollar cap hit on next year's cap or over the next two years cap four and Tonio Brown. So it's twenty one million of two hundred million dollars cap belt ten percent for him not to be on their football team. I I don't know that he's diving into the cap figures. But I think he knows he's pretty untouchable Mike Tomlin belt three years ago. When he was asked about someone being Tony was antics. He almost sitting credulously to the media's rebound the Pittsburgh post gazette this morning. What do you want me to do not play him? And it is an interesting point. Like, what do you do? When a player is this good is consistently this productive. He's fourteen hundred yards basically every single year. It's tough not to play him. It. He had to go to these extent. This extent to not play. And even then the team was covering up for him. They were calling this a need in dry up until it got out. After the gang. How does a team react to this? How does the rest of the your locker room? I mean, I wonder going into Sunday's game. How much the whole team actually knew what was going on. And how they reacted and how he comes back from this. If he financially can't be moved. How you move on from this and get back on the same page with both Big Ben and the rest of the team. He's one of those Jesus. Walnuts understand. And he he can get in front. I mean, the fact that he wasn't even there. You know when the team were were exiting yesterday. He knew me show up yesterday. The fact that Rooney reached out to him he turned turnover owners calls. I mean, I don't know how you come back from this. I mean, sometimes you gotta eat that money is more important for you to have a culture because you know, how do you impound were ill Tomlin to be able to discipline everybody when we know the AB has its own set of rules, and you know, at the end of the day this thing is if no FAS only one Bs at a threes. It's time to rebuild and start to think about doing something different in Pittsburgh, anyway, especially looking at the rest of the division San where the ravens are saying the browser. What the Browns are doing? We could be witnessing the end of the Pittsburgh still is on top..

"You're not idiots in my choices not an idiot. That's intellectually. That's the crazy thing about about like our friendship like, I don't know. If you remember I had you want the other place best. I remember that. That's and I was like, and then I remember reading about your story we've talked about periodically. But no people don't like go back through it. And I remember thinking like this is the craziest thing of ever heard because he's super bright. And it's just like again, it wasn't important to you. Yeah. You know, what it what it was? Just a hustle from the time I was thirteen or fourteen years old. I was just in the streets hustling, and luckily for me, I never really got in trouble. And that's just pure luck. Really to be honest with you. I'm my mother has four kids on one of them graduated from my school. And and well, did you technically are you the one? Are you counting yourself? No, okay. My younger. My sister didn't graduate. I got a brother that's under me that he did not graduate. He got in trouble when he was in ninth grade and didn't get out of jail until he was twenty two and then the younger brother, he's only one graduated fast forward to that. And of course, you're most known in playing in the NFL for Cincinnati Bengals. Yeah. Marvin Lewis gets fired yesterday. And when you got to the Bengals they were the bungles, right? They were they were that was Chris Henry I that was that they will curse Henry came later. When people don't understand like, you know, I know a lot of people that they're on Marvin heads made mainly like a guy like Stephen a Smith. But he doesn't he doesn't understand. When I got the Cincinnati. Dick lebeau was the head coach. Dick lebeau coup is hell, but Dikla ball is a coach for veteran players. We were young too. We didn't stand hotels. It'd be Saturday night. We play on Sunday guys are out to like three or four in the morning. And you got to be at the stadium at ten o'clock to play a game. And it was just the culture, and it was just completely different. From once Marvin got there, and we're like, oh, wow. Things changed completely. So how did he get a a bunch of guys that were young guys that had a main like look, this is the way you grew up. Right. So it's not like the the the the Marvin this is what I do. How Aladin had is. How does how does a guy who's a guy's never been head coach? But he hadn't been a head coach I came from Baltimore, obviously. And they'd had a bunch of success, everyone talks about changing culture. How do you do it? It was more. So in the way, it it. It was either you're going change or you're not going to be here. 'cause he mmediately he brought guys in from a Washington, and or Baltimore so bringing in guys like Sam Adams, and it was either you change or you not going to be here in for me. It will. I was hurt. My first couple of years, I'm rarely played. So I had no choice either you gone. Get it together. You not going to be here. And it was people really have no idea like in a professional locker room like trying to count. For instance. My Ricky are believed trying to campus six weeks. I I don't think I've ever said this publicly, but I'm gonna saying now normally every team has training camp security. We didn't have security so my fr- my rookie year in Cincinnati. It was like twenty strippers came onto our training camp. We didn't we stayed at Georgetown college strippers from midnight to five AM, and it was like our training camp grounds were strip club. Every day every day. And I was like are you? I'm calling my buddies that are rookies across the NFL like training camp like this. They're like, nah it. So I was like, wow. And that's those type of things were going on..

"On Gottlieb? Hello. This is what we're doing. You're on that count. What did you think? The countdown was for somebody has to explain this to me. Oh, you probably thought it was New Year's theme. No. That was to let you know when you're on the air. So we'll try again. Here's Doug got lead and former Pro Bowl wide receiver t j Schmidt zodda. Man, TJ zodda. I'm Doug Gottlieb. Welcome in happy new year. Two thousand nine hundred and two thousand eighteen fairly new you. We are. Manage great to be guest hosting for Dan, Patrick Gann and the danettes back very very soon. In the meantime, we're getting you ready for January first which used to be like the coolest day of the year used to be. It's still kind of a cool day and we have bowl games. But it's not the same. Do you? Remember, how old are you? This is this is one of those how old are you? If you're old enough you remember when January I had all the big bowl games. If you're old enough, though, you also remember that I believe New Year's Eve had this terrible Walt Disney Orange Bowl parade. That was like the rose parade. Don't get me wrong. You could not pay me to sleep overnight on the streets in Pasadena get up early in the morning and watch a bunch of floats. Go buy that are made out of rose petals. It feels like a colossal waste of time. And especially a waste of rose petals. I'm not saying, it's not amazing. No one sitting here saying like, hey, it's not really impressive. What they do with rose petals. But but I would also tell you that. Each just rose petals, and they don't look nearly as cool up up close. Like, you're sitting there. Classic. Whoa. There's another float. Whoa. There's a dragon. Whoa. There's some horses. I do like the bands. I just you couldn't pay me enough. Anyway, the point is there used to be a progression in all these bowl games. And it would end up with whatever the big game that would decide the national champ. She would be whether that was Orange Bowl times, you know, a team from the big eight like Nebraska or Oklahoma would be taking on Miami or something like that udall said that the esta bowl the Rose Bowl the granddaddy the mall always starting in the afternoon with as beautiful as setting as possible. Look we still have the Rose Bowl and the sugar orange is obviously apparently already been played. That's what we're calling the semi finals were played in Miami. The peach was the other one. And now we have a national championship game Monday. But I will say that like one of the things that's one of the things that's gotten screwed up. One of the things that have gotten screwed up is the college football playoff as bowl games. He been zodda. When you're at Oregon state did you guys plan to ballgame? The ball was that the last one at night, which who was that against the team that should have been in the college football playoff this year should have should not have a of name. And when we stopped Notre Dame out. I had forgot about that. You guys. Did you guys? Did you guys did blast Notre Dame? Here. What what was it was New Year's day was like late was at the last game new years. Do you? Remember what it was? Yeah. It was well it was a BCS game called the BCS thing. So when I was playing it was fiesta bowl Sugar Bowl Orange Bowl and rose Rose Bowl. Elsewhere the four premiere ballgames, and so lucky we're fortunate enough to get one of them stopped her name been played a second half because it was so bad. It was that bad. We're up I'm guessing thirty some zero who else do you guys have myself. Chad quarterback was Jonathan Smith who's not a head coach at Oregon state, Ken Simonsen. Our defense was lauded though, we're big and fast. Make Barnett wine errors they both played over ten years. NFL James dial into Lawrence Ramlet. Darius jackson. Dennis weather's b. Keep Hayward Johnson. He's DB coach at Oregon now. Terrell roberts. Richard siegler, we we had a really good team. And how long into the game. Did you know? Like, these guys are terrible. They're not the not at our level. It was probably probably the first series. I mean, we we wrote them. I I believe we scored pretty much every possession in the first half. And you're like these guys what what was it about that wasn't as good as they just weren't as fast as we were. They. And you know, the these games are works is when you the banquet, you you're supposed to interact with each other, and they really didn't want interact with us. So our coaches kind of made that a point prior to the game. What do you mean to anyone in Iraq with you? We were told going into it like Francis. It's five guys editorials say it'd be two of us in three of those and vice versa at each table. But at the banquet it didn't. It didn't go that way. It was just our team at every table, our coaches at every table is supposed to be we're supposed to intermingle, but why I don't know. I don't know our coaches just said, they're not doing it. Who's your who's your coach Dennis Erickson? Oh, that's right. That's when you guys had a rolling here. And then like, look, I know we want to get to the topics of the day. You had a crazy path to get to Oregon state. Didn't you like not finish high school? I didn't graduate from high school. Did you play football school one year? Give me give me give me the path. You started high schools the freshmen where in barstool Barstow, California late. Nothing happens in Barstow. I've never heard I've never met anyone in my life who lived in Barstow Barstow for people who are listening Dan Patrick show nationwide. When people and they still drive from LA to Vegas that used to be the stop where you'd always stop there because they're the world's biggest McDonald's is that. What happened? You went to McDonald's. You like hang out here for a while pretty much is really nothing to do out there. But I'm friends with the Gaza that I really deal with now to this day. They all live out there in Barstow all of them. Okay. So you go how many years I went to barstool high school? I got their midway through my freshman. I'm grew up in barstool number one. But I I moved back and forth from my mother. My grandmother late embarked on my mother was back and forth between different states, Texas, Oklahoma out here. So I went half of the year my freshman year. Move back wherever my mother was at my sophomore year. I probably went to high school about half of the year. My junior year. Would you do the other half of the year? Like, this is a fascinating to me. Like, I don't know. I've never met. Honestly like, and you and I have been friends for years. I've never met anybody. Like, wow went to high school, and then went to college. And then I probably very much. I was just pretty I was literally when I was in my sophomore year was probably just now getting a better around this time. Would you do just be out? Yeah. But you don't drink and you don't smoke never smoked anything down my life. Okay. So what would you do? I just be hustling hustling trying to make some money selling would just selling weed whatever I could. So you sold we didn't smoke. We never smoked at a Dan my life. Okay. So you did you get kicked out of high school, you just leave high school? So my senior year I play football. That was only your I played and wants grades came out. I didn't go to school. I went to school literally at lunch fifth period. I think I probably had a six period was football. And that was it. So we went through football wants grades came out. I got kicked out I got kicked off the basketball team because I was playing basketball. And I was just like why am I going to school? If I can't play sports. So I just stopped going. And then how'd you end up at Oregon state like I went to I went to three dollars junior college. And but without without did you get a GED or would you don't need? I eventually got my GD after my. First year junior college. But you do not need a GED leash. You didn't at that time to get into college. I just took that Cessna testify scored high enough. I was good. That's all I scored high enough after my first year coach dollars was like you have a chance to go to college. You should just go get your GED. And so I went took the test. And then you get your a after how many years I was a three does a year and a half. And then you go to Oregon state, I was on the dean's list and Oregon state. I don't want people to think I was in idiot. You're not idiots in my choices not an idiot. That's intellectually. That's the crazy thing about about like our friendship like, I don't know. If you remember I had you on the other place. I remember that. That's and I was like, and then I remember reading about your story, we talked about it periodically. From midnight to five AM, and it was like our training camp grounds were strip club. Every day. Every day. I was like are you? I'm calling my buddies that are rookies across the NFL like training camp like this. They're like, nah, it's so I was like, wow. And that's those type of things were going off. So they were Marvin got there. We got trading camp security right at the front third checking every car that comes on that this little stuff like that was like, wow got security here. Now, it was just it was completely different. Okay. So that's just one instance, I want I want more instances and more stories. I wanna get your reaction to Marvin being fired yesterday. I talked to him. Yeah. Okay. We'll get to this is called the tease in the business. Right. I gotta tease. Ed got make people continue. Like man, this stuff is gold this. I'm writing this stuff down, but more stories and TJ. Zodda. We do want to talk about like look yesterday was black Monday, eight coaching jobs that are open. Obviously, everyone's pointing out the number of African American coaches that lost their job like just kinda jumps off the chart is there is there something to it. I actually think there's a there's a net positive in it. That that everyone else's missed. We'll get to that. Plus, we got all the bowl games about coming later on. And we have the Antonio Brown discussion where you haven't heard the story Antonio Brown. He wasn't hurt on Sunday. He was essentially suspended on Sunday for his behavior during the week. And then no schilling on walk through and unpracticed later on 'course TJ being a truculent ego maniacal wide receiver in his own, right? Can tell us what it's like seeing someone else practice. I could only imagine envision what that practices like seeing them. Coming up next Thomas is gonna join us. He's reporter for the NFL network. We had his sense of the the amount of dysfunction within the Pittsburgh Steelers, and how how you fix it. Because like, let's be honest and tell you.
