"Good afternoon I have Dmitry sodas. I'm Hillary Howard, Jacob curs our producer. Now to our big story, the U.S. economy, it appears to be moving in the wrong direction. The commerce department reports GDP shrank by almost 1% during the second quarter, and that follows a drop of more than one and a half percent in the first quarter of the year. While some observers say this means at least informally we are in a recession, CBS business analyst will schlesinger tells WTO, this is no time to panic. The real question that every individual says, do I have a job that's paying enough that allows me to meet these higher prices. And if the answer is yes, I'm doing okay, then you don't care about the label of a recession. And frankly, if you are not getting paid enough money and you're falling behind, even if we're not in a recession, you feel rotten. So these labels sort of have no relevance to the real impact on Americans, which is a lot of people are struggling. Many people are grumpy about high prices, but they're doing fine. So all of this is to say, take a deep breath. Exhale, declines in home construction and government spending contributed to the negative reading in the second quarter. 5 33 and Senate majority whip dick Durbin says he's tested positive for COVID. I can make it harder for Democrats to get to the finish line on a new budget reconciliation plan as we hear from WTO's Mitchell Miller today on the hill. President Biden supports the bill, which includes a provision to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, which means seniors and consumers will pay less for their prescription drugs. But the Senate stop Republican Mitch McConnell is skeptical of spending more money at a time of soaring inflation. Democrats answered a hurting you want, sister, hurt you again. The legislation agreed to by West Virginia senator Joe Manchin and Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer will need all 50 Democrats to pass. Senator Durbin can't return for at least 5 days, and the Senate plans to go on recess after next week. On Capitol Hill, Mitchell Miller WTO. The House passed a $280 billion package to boost the semiconductor industry and scientific research today. It's a bid to create more high-tech jobs in the country. The bill now is waiting for the president's signature and will mark a major domestic policy victory for The White House. About two dozen Republicans voted for the bill, but house GOP leadership recommended a vote against it, saying it would provide subsidies and tax credits to an industry that does not need government help. Some new developments see in the January 6th investigation, the House select committee is reportedly focusing on former Trump cabinet officials in hopes of learning about any conversations about invoking the Twenty-fifth Amendment. That is the amendment considered a means of last resort where you would remove a rogue or incapacitated president. Sources tell CNN the panel has interviewed former treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin and his in talks to interview former director of national intelligence, John ratcliffe, the committee will also reportedly speak with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and has been interviewing former acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney. Several other former cabinet people have already met with the panel. In other news, thousands of Ukrainian civilians have been killed in this war and more are dying every day. And while some are victims of war crimes, many more are victims of obsolete Russian technology. That's the word from WTO P national security correspondent JJ green. Civilian areas are being deliberately targeted. And outdated missiles are the reason civilians are dying. They are not high precision. They hit and they cover the whole areas. Jury sack, adviser to Ukraine's minister of defense, explains what happens. 40 missiles are fired at the same time, and they sporadically arbitrarily hit wherever they fall. He says using these Soviet era missiles is like shooting in the dark. They are not guided. They don't hide precision. They're not precision at all. And when they fall. They

Democrats Stumble Over Their promises

"What is your messaging for all of that? And how do you propose solutions? What's going to make this stuff better? Sure. Well, the unfortunate thing is that when the Republicans don't have anything good to run on. So what they're running on are narratives that they believe will scare people. Some of it's incredibly misleading. And certainly some of it isn't even remotely the president's fault or anything in Congress. Okay. Who's the president allegedly? The desiccated old fossil. Desiccant old fossil. And his gas really expensive and inflation going through the roof. It seems to be. Okay, so what she's essentially saying is it's a false narrative that gas is really expensive going to a roof. To make everything better as president. That's kind of the apply problem. That would be crusty, right? Yes, this is and he's not getting it done, right? This is the dick Durbin line. Dick Durbin yesterday tried to say, well, you know. The Republicans, Mitch McConnell, they're not talking about the important stuff. They're trying to focus on the discrete issues like the economy. He actually said that.

"But The New York Times wrote a piece about it We can replace them Dick Durbin gave a speech on the House floor about demographic destiny In the kind of weird how this has been a leftist fascination this replacement theory thing and yet this tragedy occurs in Buffalo and now they want to silence conservatives for their conspiracy theory just weird how that happens right Yeah it's all a bunch of projection Jan I mean look these people have been bragging for years about how an influx of immigrants would eventually lead to their electoral domination over Republicans for until the end of eternity And now all of a sudden they're trying to blame Fox News for a socialist shooter I mean this guy has a manifesto We don't have to guess about what his inspirations and motivations were He wrote pretty clearly in there that he is no fan of conservatism and no fan of conservatives He describes himself as an authoritarian leftist multiple times in that manifesto and he lists specifically here are the people who inspired my actions Nowhere in there does he list Tucker Carlson or Fox News or any of these conservatives that the left has been listing as the people to blame for this mass shooting

"And Fred Thompson was a friend of mine over the years And you don't need the respond to this And when we were having dinner once he had retired from the Senate He said to me and I pretty much got along with everybody except one senator He said this senators word was not his bond A more than one occasion And again you don't have to respond to this honor He said dick Durbin And I won't say exactly what Fred Thompson said to me but it wasn't It wasn't in the king's English if you know what I mean But it was not a big fan of dick Durbin's He said you know he'd tell you one thing one day and the next day stabbed you in the back I'm just telling you that you don't need to comment on that and that's the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee And there he is I thought he did a lousy job I thought he was interfering I thought he was testifying And I thought you all did a really really good job Each and every one of you breaking it down But the most important moment will be when you ask that telltale question because that will resonate for decades She'll be on that court for decades and she will be voting over and over and over again In my view to rearrange society to support the Democrat party That's who she is That's what her record is senator

Angeline From Tierra Verde Writes Two More Emails

"I admit I'm in a rut. I was in a rotten mood today, but I've suddenly brightened angeline from Tierra Verde is back. She has written me not one, but two emails today. Guys, can we come up with a theme song for angeline from Tierra Verde? Is there a song about angeline, is there any song ever been written about angeline? So angeline is this truly, truly unhinged woman who keeps writing me emails and she's written for years. And she always listens, but she just completely rages against me. So here's what here's email number one. I'm so happy now. Now I got a note from angeline from Tierra Verde, Florida. Tucker Carlson is finally getting called out for being such a vile person, she writes. Anyone who spews that nonsense on a venue that is watched by many should be called out. The reason his show is popular is because people tune in to see what sort of hatred will come out of his mouth next. It's a peculiar reason to watch a show, huh? I put you on to prove myself right, each and every day, and perhaps one day you will realize just how wrong you've been. Hatred and disinformation are two things that have in common with you. I think she means me and Tucker. Then she writes, the second email, this is even better. Okay, so I remained listening to your show, well, because you do every day, angeline and Tierra Verde. You always, that's why you write all these emails. Because I wanted to hear you defend Tucker Carlson in the process you called out dick Durbin for talking about Carlson and asked the question why a senator would waste his time on a TV host. Well, Mike, I ask why you never called out Trump for all the comments made about news people during his rambling speeches. Play back those speeches. And ask yourself, why would he waste his time nah, you can not do that because you have an audience that does not call you out for misinformation. You are a

"Illinois. Senator dick Durbin read from the letter the summer load of the department sent to congress from Reese to public late in the afternoon, March twenty four th did not fully capture the context nature and substance of the offices work and conclusions again, and again, Democrats questioned the attorney general about the discrepancy between his characterization of the special counsel's report and the concerns Muller detailed in his letter. I talked directly to Bob and Bob told me that he did not have objections to the accuracy attorneys. Don't put things in writing unless they're pretty serious about them. And again, and again bar often looking impatient and irritated defended his interpretation of Muller's findings after a months long trial. If I wanted to go at. And get out to the public. What the verdict was pending preparation of the full transcript and the prosecutor comes up and caps me on the shoulder and says, well, the verdict doesn't really fully capture all my work about that. Great. You know, cross examination. I did. Or how about that third day of trial? Where I did that this doesn't capture everything my answer to that is I'm not trying to capture everything I'm just trying to state the verdict and while Democrats William Barr with questions about his conclusions. Republicans repeatedly returned to subjects like Hillary Clinton's emails, whether or not the Trump campaign was spied on and the questions of bias at the Justice department during the two thousand sixteen election as Texas Senator John Cornyn did here we now need to know what steps the Obama FBI department of Justice and intelligence community. What steps they took to undermine the political process and put a thumb on the scale and favor one political candidate over the other Tennessee, Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn was one of the. Senators questioning attorney general Bill bar today. Welcome. Thank you so much. So a big topic of conversation. Among some of your democratic colleagues today was the attorney general's representation of the findings in the Miller report. Do you think that bars four page summary fairly reflected the findings of the special counsel? Yeah. When you look at so report, which people can now get this report. They can read it what the attorney general did was to put full word an accounting of what was in that report. And he offered for Mr. Muller to be able to review that before he sent it out. Mr. Muller did not. And now you're hearing that there was a a back and forth. But let's leave that conversation to Mr. bar, and Mr. Muller, well that conversation is now widely public. I mean, how do you square the concerns Muller raised in his leg? Letter a letter that was released today. A letter that he sent to bar and these concerns let me read them out to you here. I'll just quote bar summary, quote, did not fully capture the context nature and substance of this office work and conclusions end, quote, he goes on to say this threatens to undermine public confidence in the outcome of investigations. Are you taking issue with the special counsels viewpoint expressed in his letter you had general bar today? Say that many of the problems were with how the media had represented the report and general bar like any of us cannot control what the media is going to say or the opinion that they are going to express with Ad Council. Said in his letter that he felt misunderstandings resulted from Bill bars for page summary misunderstandings. That may happen yet. Ten lawyers in a room, you're going to have twelve different opinion. Wins. Do you wanna see Robert Mueller testified before congress? You know, there are some that would like to see him come and testify. I think most people say look the report is filed. What more are you going to learn? Well, how do you feel would you object to him testifying before congress the American people and tennesseans spine large will say, look, let's get to work on some issues less make certain that government is accountable, and then let's move onto dealing with transportation with health care with keeping the economy going they like to talk about brighter futures for their families. And those are the things that are there emphasis, the Muller report has been filed and they're ready to see us do some work that is important to them. Well, given that given that there are so many real world concerns that people have that voters have the chair of the judiciary committee Lindsay Graham has said that he wants to. Investigate the origins of the Mueller investigation. You have just said look it's time to move on. The investigation is over there is real work to be done on real issues. Do you think what Senator Graham is proposing is a productive use of time and resources? You know, it's consistent to say. The report is there in the findings are there in. It's also consistent to say. Let's hold the government agencies accountable. And if there are bad actors, let to deal with these bad actors, so you think it's a productive use of. They they want to know how we got to this point. So that no presidential candidate democrat or Republican ever sees something like this happened to them. So you would like to see an investigation of the investigation. You do think that's productive user is. We know that that actors are rooted out and that we are going to be well served by individuals. Who realize we are a nation of laws that we will abide by the rule of law again to you were going to have law enforcement there that is to uphold the law, Marsha Blackburn is a Republican Senator from Tennessee, she sits on the judiciary committee. Thank you very much for joining us. Thank you so much..

"Senator dick Durbin from Illinois. As way, then his his is not happy with McCain's explanation for lying yesterday morning. Turban appeared on MSNBC reacting to McCain's explanation for lying to investigators about leaking information to the press. And McCabe is said numberous times in this. Cockamamie book tour of his that when I served as deputy director. I was one or two people in the FBI who have the authority by FBI policy to interact with the media and decide what information as an organization we shared with the media. I don't consider any of the authorized dissemination of information. I was involved in over. My course of deputy director to be leaks. They are not leaks. Well, dick, turbans said that McCabe explanation doesn't satisfy him is I have to say, I'm still struggling with the fact that after twenty years in working in the FBI really taking close look at the questions and answers and making life and death decisions that his explanation doesn't really satisfy me as to why he faltered in this moment when he was being asked about his own conduct. Translation, I don't believe this guy. And I don't know why when it comes to explaining his own behavior. He can't just own up and admitted anything well that's not hard to figure out. The coup is still underway. And as long as the coup is still underway. The people in the coup conducting it cannot admit to have done anything wrong. They have to basically signal that everything they've done is justified. Because of the importance of getting rid of Donald Trump. I asked for a little montage of how the media has been treating or did react originally to the Justice mallet hoax, and we've we've put one together here, and it's just a review it, there's nothing really earth shattering here. It's just a review of the overall flavor and attitude of the drive by media as they became Sabat twenty four as they became aware of the story at the beginning of it Senator.

"I respect I hear what you're saying about. But this is a genuine question. And by the way, it's criticism is from the left is. Well, I hear you're saying it all sounds great. And I understand what you're saying about your record. But I do think there's something to be said when when I think of you now, I think of I am Spartacus. And that I don't know if this is the best reflection of you, so people go back and watch the Oakland because even that was twisted, but we do in this culture right now. It's a tear down culture the truth doesn't even really matter. And I hope you'll go back and watch the cavenaugh hearing is that was one of my prouder moments sticking up for people. And when I was threatened to be thrown out of the Senate. I told the Senator that did that bring it another centers stood up into the if you've had the real Cory Booker out throw me into the pit as well. And that Senator I looked at them. And I said, wow, that's like an because moment he stepped forward to anything that happens to Corey happens to it senators dick Durbin who's a Roger. And and and what I'm saying. That's the problem with our culture is that these snippets. We have people getting more and more ratings by tearing down the other people. That's not how I'm going to run this campaign. If you're tired of that kind of bitterness if that kind of trash talking. Kind of trolling that kind of politics that is just a race to the bottom in our country. Then don't support me because I'm not in this race to tear people down. I mean this race to try to build our nation up. Pudding sixteen. I traveled monta middle of the country. And I talked to voters and not all Republicans independence, even Democrats. Who said I'm I'm voting for Trump this time because I've been the forgotten person. He's he came here. He spoke to me. I like his economic message. You're gonna have to win over those voters and number of them feel like their life isn't worse. They may not like everything the president says, but they have food on the table for their family three hundred thousand new jobs for just added last month, which smashed records. That's after eight years, just by the way. No, no, no. Common. I don't agree. The economy is much broader conversation. You're talking about where we are right now though, and people are thinking about their daily lives, and how do you change their mind? Trouble the same country, and look there's a lot of pain out there in America. And a lot of fear. And it's not no party has a monopoly on that hurt. There are people checking out from politics giving up on politics at cynicism exists from inner cities to suburbs. Farm towns factory towns, there is a lot of pain and the challenges for us as Americans with a little bit more, courageous empathy recognized that this is a common pain. They were all in this together. If you put off seeing a doctor because you can't afford it. That's not a Republican or democratic pain. That's that's right now hurting in America, if you work in a fulltime job in this country and still a can't make ends meet have more month at the end of the your money the money of the in the year month, that's an American pain. This over a thousand jurisdictions in this country. We're still have a higher lead blood lead level in Flint Michigan. They can find unleaded gasoline more easily than unleaded water. That's not a. Publican problem. We're democrat problem. That's an American problem. Couldn't Trump say two years in I've made your life better than is. Listen. The problem is is what's happening right now is people are thinking that we're going to win this by demonizing each other. But I'm going out there to say we have a common pain in this country. But we've lost our sense of common purpose and to solve our problems. We have got to come together. Look, my mom was reminding me this is black history month just started. She she did a sit in Virginia and taught me very early on that when we were trying to move into our house, and we couldn't move in for because of the color of our skin where I grew up. "To make my point. Do you? Remember? How many years maybe fifteen years ago, even longer the Russians were having great problems with the Chechens, and the Chechens had invaded a church in Moscow, and they'd taken hostage a bunch of people in the church. And the Kremlin was trying to figure out what to do about this. You know, what they did they industry this shocked the defense department? They had found a way to weaponize. No. They had found a way to make a an aerosol type gas out of. And they ran it through the ventilation system of this church and killed everybody in there. It's powerful stuff. But here's the point. Nobody at the time in the United States or anywhere else realized that the Russians had found a way to weaponize, the stuff meaning to put it in deadly concentrations in aerosol form, it took a lot of work to do that. Because sentinel is not a gas. It's not it's not an aerosol product at all. But they had they had weaponize it and found a way to make it invisible. And put it in a ventilation system. Nobody knew that they were breathing. It. And they had a significant concentration of the stuff and people just started falling asleep. And when that happened in the Russians made their move and got they got as many of the innocent people out of there as they couldn't they left the Chechens into die, and then the United States the defense department's running around shocked as they can be because they can't believe anybody found a way to weaponize, the stuff and turn it into essentially a gas. Here is Tom in Grand Rapids. Michigan. Great to have you on the network. Hello. Greetings, rush hour, you fine and dandy, sir. Thank you. Yes. I was reading the editorial or the opinion page on USA today yesterday, and the author was celebrating the potential rise of democracy. In venezuela. And he was going on and on about I wonder if it would be for the old president to be taken over by the new one, and I had to do a double take on this author of this article was none other dick Durbin from Illinois. Wondering what your take on? That is. Well, you know, I this is embarrassing. I it's you know, how rare it is that people tell me something's in the news that I don't know about. I was just chastising people the other day for not being able to do this. And here you've done it. Dick, Durbin piece was celebrating. What did you say? He was celebrating the democrat democratization of Venezuela. Potential rise of democracy. Because of the overthrow of the socialist government down there. He was plotting that essentially, yes. In the article today, he had he had met with five of the including the new guy came remember his name. In his office, and he had a private phone call with them. It was it was quite a detailed article. I was just like shocked that it was dick Durbin. I'd. There's another dick Durbin, Illinois or not, right. You can't leave it. Dick Durbin to be promoting. A socialist being shut down on out of power and and being replaced by quote, unquote, democratic leadership that doesn't that didn't make. Correct. Yeah. Well, I'm not begging off here. But what I I probably would make more sense to comment on this after I've actually read it, which I will do I will make an effort to find this. And the way you've explained it sounds hypocritical. "This memo that has caused much controversy Washington. The Wall Street Journal reported late last year that he's a memo to the Trump administration that pretty critical of the more about the Feinstein such. He actually didn't ask him about that memo during her meeting Chris coons told us actor his meeting that he hasn't had a chance to read the memo yet. We're talking to dick Durbin, the number two democrat. A member committee like what else you wanna talk about? And he definitely gave the impression that it's going to be more Muller. "Modern history. The face of special counsel, Robert Muller's probe is looming large over a high stakes hearing for President Trump's attorney general nominee. William bar will be in the hot seat today when he faces the Senate Judiciary committee for a two day grilling that's expected to focus on the fate of Mr. Mueller's investigation into the two thousand sixteen election and potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow. A good portion of the focus will be on an unsolicited memo that Mr. bar wrote last June saying that the Muller probe is based quote on a fatally misconceive theory and would you quote lasting damage to the presidency? A preview of the hearing from Jordan Carney, Senate reporter at the hill. Jordan, he's been making private visits with lawmakers. So he has been meeting he met with Olympic Graham, who's the new committee, chairman Mitch McConnell on any sort of in meeting with a handful Democrats on the committee. Diane Feinstein, top democrat, Chris coons and has been trying to. To reassure them that he will let us investigation continue unimpeded that he believes it's important for the country that the investigation be allowed to finish. He expected to say that he wants to release is much of Moore's final report as possible. I think the reaction from Democrats spent I'm glad you're saying to us privately we want you to say that publicly on the records. Everyone can hear it. During his confirmation hearings to those one on one meetings with lawmakers work. I think they came out of those still pretty skeptical or, you know, there there seemed to be, you know, nothing matters unless it's on the record a couple of them also said they didn't ask him about this memo that has caused much controversy. "We have an update on the owl Roker situation. That's right. Al Roker is now weighing in on that weather guy that got fired. So we got we got an hour Roker situation. Now, remember we we did the story yesterday. The weather guy from Rochester, New York who got fired because of a L A slip on the air when talking about Martin Luther King junior. And unfortunately, a a slur came out. And I believe the explanation that it was unintentional. All we got an update coming up. And now we have an hour Roker situation on the Rochester weather man, now, which ways Al Roker going on this. It might surprise you just a little bit. And we'll get to that coming up in just a bit here on I have an excerpt from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and dick Durbin their exit. And Steny Hoyer their exit from the White House after Trump walked out of the meeting. We listened in to a little bit of Pelosi and Schumer when they came out live last hour. But this kinda I think makes the point. And I I don't wanna give Nancy Pelosi any credit. I don't want to give Nancy Pelosi any pats on the back. But I made the point last half hour that this is going to ultimately reflect more poorly on President Trump and Republicans than it will on the Democrats the optics, and especially with hundreds of thousands of federal workers, not getting a paycheck on Friday. This ultimately is going to be better for the Democrats from a public relations view, then it's going to be for the Republicans. And while I hate to actually listen to Nancy Pelosi's voice any anymore than I have to this sorta. I hate to say it. But she she kind of has this right listen, and this is Nancy Pelosi from just a short time ago cold out here and the temperature wasn't much warmer in the situation room. Our meeting did not last long. Is so sad. That in a matter of hours are just a few days many. Federal workers will not be receiving their paychecks. And what that means in their minds is tragic in terms of their credit rating paying their mortgage paying their rent, a car payments, hang their children's tuition and arrest the president seems to be insensitive to that he thinks maybe they could just after father for more money, but they can't. But they can why. Wow. Wow. So Pelosi's.

"Game show on different band camp. That is Scott Robbins entertainment Markley back on Monday. Yes, sir. A little bit as I look up and. Hi cd. Breaking news headline. CNN? I just saw the word sometimes contentious Chuck and Nancy Nancy's meeting in the White House with President Trump today was quote, sometimes can tend not so good. What are you telling me that they didn't hold hands and sing kumbaya together? It might have been a little bit contentious a little bit. Yes. Breaking news, Scott. Water is wet. What do we think was going to happen here? Right. Yeah. Not all negotiations. Go all that. Well, listen, if everybody were just super friendly during every negotiation, it'd probably be no point in having negotiations because we agree on anything. Anyway. Sometimes there are some rough and tumble things that go on behind closed doors. My ends this thing it was like, okay. Gotta go look at the time. No one can cry uncle right now. Right. One of Chuck's gotta go. Well, I gotta go pick the grandkids up from daycare gotta go. Oh, just ends the meeting. Yes. Dick Durbin dick Durbin up there. You know that clown. Never he he's always the backbencher isn't he he's standing there with that concerned girl brow? Yeah. Then guy. No, his he was probably the one who called the meeting short saying hold on. I gotta come up with things that are racist. Now. A few months ago where he? That's the thing. He just stands this feedback and forth. It's chuck. It's nancy. And they're just turns around, and that's what he does. Okay. Mike pence. Vice President Mike Pence is also part of these discussions. He sat down with Tucker Carlson on Fox News last night talking about the ongoing negotiations over the border wall. Which again, if you missed it, the breaking news was where sometimes contentious. Yes, I don't know if you knew that that might happen. He says Democrats ought to be willing to make a deal here because the president's been openness some other things that other Republicans would not have otherwise been open to what we've completely focused on is keeping the president's promise to build a wall to pass legislation that provides other support for border security to give the people that are forcing our laws at the border and across the country enforcing our immigration laws, the resources and the tools that they need. There's a lot of people talking about a lot of different ideas. You know, frankly, the better part of the year ago, the president expressed a willingness to deal with the issue of dreamers compassionate way for people who were brought here as children throw fault of their own. He's discussed that it's being talked about. We're here to make a deal, but it's a deal that's going to result in achieving real games on border security, and you have no border security without a wall. We have no deal without wall. And what's so bad about that? Really? I mean, if you ask the. Question. I know Democrats don't want the border wall. I know that's something. That's a sticking point right now. But if you're willing to why wouldn't you be willing to give up on the border wall and increased border security measures in exchange for the dreamers because less than a year ago, the dreamers were the most important population in this country. The news media, and the Democrats spent two weeks every day telling us that this was the most important thing in America was protecting the dreamers. So you have an opportunity now why not take the president will be able to spike the ball in the end zone. If there's a wall, and they will do everything they can to make sure he cannot spike the ball in the end zone. But you'd also be able to spike the ball in the end zone to protections for dreamers. That's the whole. I thought that was the direction Pence was heading. And that's when he discussed this, right? And that's what Mike Pence says here's what we're gonna do. Right. We've put it out there back going above what Obama wanted to do. Yes. Which I know I was shocked a lot of people who supported the president voted for the president were very surprised that he was talking about one point eight million people giving them a pass to citizenship, which is way more than what by about a million. Yes, what the Obama administration was talking about? And they weren't even talking about a path to citizenship. So I don't understand why the Democrats don't take up the ball and run with it other than this is all about politics policy, making Trump look as bad as possible for twenty. That's what this is. And Trump is the bad guy. Apparently because according to Chuck Schumer. He said he'd keep the government closed for a very long period of time months or even years. Yeah. Okay. Well, we'll see where this all goes. I wish that they would actually have a conversation 'cause you know, Trump's not going to back. He shouldn't back down on what he wants. This is what he campaigned on PD stand firm on it. And where I think Lindsey Graham we have the audio yesterday. Let's get Graham is probably right presidency is over. If he caves on this at this point because he's not getting the wall now air moving forward. This is the last chance he gets to get anything close to a wall. That's it. Another story out there. And this surprises me British pediatricians are saying that there is little evidence. That screen time is harmful for kids. I thought that was terrible for them. There is little evidence. That screen time is in itself harmful to a child's health. This new guidance published by British pediatricians and the guidance avoid setting limits on screen time. Use for children of all ages. Was released by the Royal College of pediatrics and child health in the UK says it's impossible to recommend age appropriate time limits, but does however recommend avoiding screens an hour before bedtime to help children sleep better. According to their press release that they put out they say that families should place value on positive activities like exercise that being said. They don't see a direct link to any real problems. And they don't want to put a blanket screen time. Limit to recommend for kids, except we have all these other studies that suggest that it can lead to obesity and heart disease like dogs. Right. Right. Yes. All these other things, you know, what this is. This is really a group of pediatricians who are also parents and they want to be able to just put the ipad in front of the kid. Tell him to shut up. Yeah. It is quite effective. I've seen it in. I mean, you you throw some Pepe pig on that three year old isn't isn't screaming at the olive garden anymore. She'll be quiet. It worked. You were introduced to the world of Pepe pig. I was that's fantastic. I was with my nieces are six and three. And they I mean, Pepe pig is like crack to them. Oh, yeah. You put on Pepe pig. And they it doesn't matter because you know, kids, especially that age. Well, maybe a little bit younger than the oldest niece, but they can go from everything's totally great to everything is in crisis in a heartbeat. I mean just out of nowhere just you could be skipping at the park and everybody should LA landed. Suddenly, it's just total meltdown mode. And they do that just like a lot of other kids do and it doesn't matter. How bad of a mood. Therein, you throw on that stupid cartoon, and they're just transfixed by it's amazing. So I think that's why these pediatricians have come out now and said. Listen, man, I need an excuse to tell my wife. It's not that bad. Put the ipad for the kid. It's ok they're not going to die from a heart attack at the age of seven. No, that's it. Another story out there from ABC news. New York City is joined a growing number of cities and states that allow people to choose a gender neutral marker on their birth certificates. Starting this week. Anyone who was born in New York City has the ability to have the gender marker on their birth certificate changed to x rather than male or female and are able to do. So without a doctor's note or medical assessments. He can just walk in and say, hey, I wanna put an X there. You don't need to have anything other than your desire to do. So okay. How is this going to affect crime stoppers? What do you mean? We're looking for a approximately six foot two. Approximately six foot two gender neutral. Janney. We can't we don't know. Now, we don't know what to call it. Right. The world is getting more complicated. An you still have the same gender affiliation. So they officer. I do I'm still X. Right. Yeah. They say, no, doctor's note is required. And that's important apparently again represents more than just eliminating an extra step in the process. One of the people involved. Here said self attest station, essentially shows that the government is recognizing that transgender people. As citizens are the ones who know what their identity is. And are able to tell the government that really are there to tell the government that rather than the other way around. How are we going to demographically ascend assigned genders moving forward just not going to like people just people between the ages of twenty five and fifty. The X. What if I just want the emoji where it's the guy kind of having the sideways look on his face in his hands up. I dunno whatever whatever you want. Just everything has to be so complicated. Gosh, that's it. And without a doctor's note, though, can't you theoretically, just go and change your identity left and right without any ad, but they do. It doesn't matter to me. But in the rock and roll annals the kinks headed all right? Didn't they was L O L A? I'm not done. But I do understand why she walk like a moment and talk Lacrima man's, right? I know what I am. And I'm glad I'm a man and sows Lola. Yes. Yup. That's what happens way in front of the game. This is a great story or a great beginning to a story of Breathalyzer designed to detect multiple cancers in story all my heard about this from time to time. But now it's in the testing phase and the theory behind it is there several illnesses that are known to create signature smells from the body. Like, typhoid fever is reportedly something it, smells like baked bread. There are other like diabetes. Is supposed to be similar to rotten apples on the breath. If you have diabetes, there's my dad was diabetic. And there was a certain sweetness, but they're thinking that a person's breath. Could also indicate the presence of cancer. Wow. Man. Cancer research has launched a two year trial into a clinical device called the breath biopsy to find out if exhaled airborne molecules can be useful for cancer detection. Because depending on what you're going in for sometimes the tests can be pretty invasive and painful. Yes. And this is just blow into this device. How amazing would that be? Well, why stop there? I mean, it could be heart disease or kidney disease or anything else. Right. So what they're saying moly, man. This is crazy in the body's normal metabolic processes molecules called volatile.

"It was one of my worst votes creating the hundred to one and all the rest of it. I finally feel like I'm getting it. Right. And the fact that I get it right means a lot of people will be treated, right? Not all of them. Sit a lot to do. This is just the opening. It is the first step as we characterize it. There's a lot more that needs to be done. But we have finally decided I think as a nation moving toward the feeling we're gonna fight the war on drugs with our brains, not our muscles. We're going to think about ways that stop drugs coming into this country to deal with the interdiction of and also deal with the treatment of people in a much different way, it reflects the fact that the opioid epidemic which has taken over in this country has opened the eyes of people everywhere too. The fact that says a problem of the inner city anymore. There isn't any suburb to wealthy. No town too small to avoid this opioid epidemic. And people who are looking at the victims are not seeing poor inner city living people they're seeing their brothers and sisters and sons and daughters. So they're starting to think about drugs and a different way. I think that we are evolving as nation as we think about drugs and how to deal with them. I believe it's a scourge. It breaks my heart to hear when someone is addicted. But at least now we're not saying, it's a moral curse. In your finished were saying to them. It's a disease we're gonna treat it. Well, I wanna put it to you this way if you were not a Senator back in the eighties when those mandatory minimums and three strikes route into crack cocaine despair, if you were not a Senator that would have happened. Anyway, it was where the heard was going, but I will say this. If you were not a Senator now the correction for that would not have happened you or the guy on our side of the aisle and. I know you're going to try to clearly the White House. Indispensable partner clearly Grassley in Inle indispensable partners. But as democrat in the democratic caucus, I know for sure if dick Durbin was not a Senator we would not have this day. And I want to tell you as you know, I live in an inner city community with people who have been adversely affected by an unfair unjust war on drugs. You are a champion my friend, and I am so grateful that you're my friend, and that you have allowed me this last five years to be your partner on getting this over the finish line. And then a great partner the man who brought me into politics was impulse. I am. And he was a Senator in my state before me he had some basic rules, and I live by when it comes to public service. He said look for two things in public service honesty and somebody who's willing to help the helpless that those were the north star the guideline when it comes to what I want to be a member of the Senate, and I'll bet you do too well beyond I mean because this is the thing. "Again to another edition of lift every voice. I cannot tell you. I am so excited about this episode because I am just literally hours have now passed since what was yesterday affectively around eight a little after eight o'clock where we passed a historic piece of legislation a call the first step act, which will get to in a second. But my guest today really is my champion on criminal Justice reform in the United States Senate when I was a very new Senator about five years ago, I came to the Senate to work on criminal Justice reform. It was one of the things that drove me to want to try to a run for the Senate in the first place and the guy who when I landed on the Senate floor and the democratic caucus who kind of took the under his arm would already had the seminal piece of legislation. Do sentencing reform is a man named dick Durbin, the Senator from Illinois. And I have him is my guest today. He led the charge to get this legislation passed, and I just want to thank him in welcome to this podcast. Thank you Senator van. Thanks corey. And it was a team effort. And I I was just happy as heck that you were by my side. It was a great great feeling on the floor last night. I think we made history. Clearly, we did. And I'd like to just go back a while. Because Senator the thing that makes me sad about you is that some of the best beaches. I've ever heard you give there's no press to listen to when you stand up, and you corral or caucus on moral issues. You are really one of the people that is a moral voice in the democratic caucus talking about the people that are often left behind the folks that don't have lobbyists. I've seen you stand up and talk for for immigrants and DACA kids. And then clearly on criminal Justice reform before I even got to the United States Senate. Now, you said something in the press conference, which was I thought it was really moving.
