These are the moments that my mom doesn't really understand my career. So this is like those type of moments where I get to be like, see, look, I'm doing it. That's what this is for me, you know? White plans to drop more of what he calls happy hood music in 2023, but he plans to do it a song at a time, rather than waiting until an entire album is finished. By the way, it's the 50th anniversary of Dick Clark's new year's rocking eve now with host Ryan Seacrest. The show is considered the most watched New Year's Eve celebration. "But now she said goodbye and I'm oh so lonely my baby's done left up in radio. It's the last bumper stumper of the night being a human and so I'll tell you what they all have in common, but maybe you know who he is. That part's the easy part. All right, interesting what they have in common too but as I say, I would have been stunned if someone said, oh yes, I know that. All right, so sherry and April, welcome back to WGN radio. Hi, Riley. I had to hang out before but gave it a store colony. Anyway, so I have sort of a guest for the themes while you're bumpers. Okay. Too young to know any of these. So I have three things, either unrequited love, breakups, or not being kissed. Nobody has nothing to do with the content of the music. Oh, okay, I'm sorry. Anyway, and I was going to say one hit wonders originally, but you said the redhead guy had money hit. Well, and so did the impressions. Oh my God, yes. Okay. I mean, I've been listening in and out putting on. Well, good deal. All right, and then I don't know if you'll let me comment in that lady in Wisconsin, talking about old time radio. I didn't catch her name. Okay, Stephanie. But I'll ask you to call me about that tomorrow night since I've only got two minutes left. Because I have three ideas for her. Okay, good deal. If I understood the conversation. Okay. All right. So yeah, I've got precious few seconds left. It means bill's old time radio will probably not going to get to that, but hang on Bill who knows maybe. So I want to tell you about these bumper stumpers. I'm going to tell you who they are firstly and what they have in common. And what they have in common actually, I guess I should give you the broad stroke first. Every last one of these people who had lots of songs on The Rock and roll charts was on national television this week. Different years, but all this week. Nobody Stevens was on the 1959 Dick Clark Saturday night beach nut show. The impressions, which is our second song, was on the 1965 whereas the action show where the action is show, sorry, Dick Clark and Steve Alamo. Dale Hawkins, he was also on the beach note show 1958, 1958 Dick Clark Saturday night show. Little Anthony and the imperials did if I love you, they were on the 1958 beach not show along with Dale Hawkins. The amazing rhythm aces doing lipstick traces from 1979. They were on midnight special in 1975. Johnny Taylor did I had a dream 1966 on stacks. And he was on the 1976 midnight special this week. Charlie Rich, which we just played, my baby done left me. He was on the 1975 midnight special, along with the amazing where the masons. Rusty Draper held for questioning. He was on the 1958 beechnut show. Jeanne Chandler, in 1966 constellation. He was on American bandstand 1970 this week. And the jive 5 if I had a chance to love you, 1970 on decka, flip side of their last chart record on the R&B charts in 1961, this week they were on American man stand. So all of them rock and rollers, all of them on national television. And that pretty much is going to be a wrap. So apologies to Bill. But 21 hours from now, we will do it all again. And I'm hoping you'll call until then we thank Dan for keeping us on the air. John for screening your calls. You especially for calling, I couldn't play trivia without you. I'm Raleigh James. White House's Funniest Home Videos: Trump Has a Blooper Reel

"Where do we start with obviously the big J 6 hearing tonight? Oh, we're going to see the blooper reel. Yeah. Which is the multiple times that got tried to get Trump, right? Yeah. And CNN's reporting this morning that Trump only made the video because he was afraid of the Twenty-fifth Amendment, his cabinet Twenty-fifth Amendment. Yes. They said he only stopped he almost said go home in the insurrection because a it failed and be they were talking about Twenty-fifth Amendment. And they have every version. Yes. Yes. No. Yes. Every version of the videos that he cut. Is there one where he gets hit in the balls? I'm just hoping. I'm just, is that just me? I miss all The White House is funniest videos. I'm old school. I want Dick Clark and Ed McMahon to show up. Yes. Like the old TV bloopers and practical stuff. I just said Bob Saget, and then I realized that we can't have nice things anymore. Somebody shows up.

"Fine little record stop that clock All right so we're talking to Brian who's the first time called or in Joliet We were going back to the days of the Paola hearings and Alan freed and so are you still with me Brian Yes I am Here's the deal Alan freed did not understand what happened to him versus Dick Clark And let me give you a little background on this When Allen was lured to WABC from wynne said that was a time in the mid 50s when ampere the publisher for ABC paramount the record label Said to him now we trust you're going to play a lot of ampere products So you know this was this was something that was well known and all that All right so here come the payola hearings And Alan freed is brought this document he has to sign saying he never took payola Well of course he couldn't do that Not only did he take it but they knew he took it right So he said I'm not signing that Well he found out that they crafted an agreement for Dick Clark They spent weeks crafting this perfect agreement And he was just livid now Let me tell you why Leonard goldson was a president of ABC And he was beyond elated that ABC didn't have quiz shows And if you remember right before the payola hearings were the quiz show scandal And he skated that Okay now at the time payola was not illegal for an employee So an Alan freed or a Dick Clark or whoever as an employee could absolutely take remuneration However licenses were prohibited It was a license revocation offense And that was Paola and plug all Plug all of being of course using sponsor identifications without saying they were sponsor identifications or logging them All right well here's the problem As American bandstand got very popular they started the Saturday night what we call the beechnut show because beechnut was the main sponsor And it was a Saturday night show that Dick Clark did It was very big Well on it they used to say the travel was provided by American Airlines Except travel wasn't provided by American air And I don't know for sure it was American I think it was American but it was one of the major carriers The problem was that travel wasn't provided by this carrier And this wasn't logged as a commercial So technically this was plug ola And goldensohn recognized that if this ever came to light his network could hang for this their owned and operated stations And so that's why they hustled Dick Clark up to my marinade up to golden shore rakers home which was a real stately place up there Anyway they crafted this agreement so it would basically save ABC's neck But all Alan freed saw was that Dick Clark got a pass and he was hung Now Alan fried was never convicted to payola He was never actually charged with payola Ultimately he was so broken that when the New York district attorney charged him with tax evasion he didn't protest it He said all right fine I'm out And that was pretty much it He went to Miami for a while WAM briefly then he wound up in Los Angeles on K day and all they died in 1965 bleeding ulcers and Palm Springs And to his dying day he never fully understood why Dick Clark got a pass and he was hung out to dry I understand May I make a request please Very popular American.

"I'm Riley James kind of a stealth performance here after all last night and on the website I told you we'd be starting at 1230 central time Well turned out that wasn't exactly right So there's an extra hour just you and me kids So this is time to call when no one else will hear it 8 8 8 7 6 5 5 9 three That's 88 88 rally If it's on your mind it'll be on mine And I am so glad I've been wondering for days because I said oh you'll be fine and then the omicron number started really creeping up in some of the reports said it's just like a cold I thought oh God I've told Eduardo that he's just going to be fine Well I think he is But anyway he's checking in So Eduardo how do you feel Yeah Riley good evening While it's only 90 minutes start So thank God This is great So do you feel okay Oh yeah the only thing is my mother got something this past week but she's on a way to feeling better Good Good but I know when we talked last time you had a cold and I said oh don't worry about a thing and later I thought maybe I shouldn't have said that So okay good You're doing better with led to hear it Yeah much better yeah Much better than when we last talked Good But you know I was at the pharmacy today I was going to pick up like a nasal spray And I'm thinking why do they shut down the drive-through when now you got to go inside and wait in line the line is almost all the way to the cosmetics section where you would have had people in the cars like social distancing You got them all inside where they can catch of course something Of course Doesn't make any sense Well that's right It makes absolutely no sense But if you've noticed none of this makes any sense So why should that be different Yeah it's not a surprise I'm over here by the airport and it's good to see the jets line out It's not like I was up on an aircraft carrier I mean more than any other day it was like back and forth like every like 5 minutes Really Well one of the years of course is that depending upon the wind patterns approaches and departures can change So was this an unusual pattern Well I would say it was really windy Yeah Yes because you know my power went out briefly And then it went back on I was like working too And thank God it came on right away otherwise I would have been like oh my God Yeah back up back up back up if you're online every 5 minutes save your work Oh yeah Yeah And connect your connectedness in the middle of the day Well right by connect your computer to a UPS power source of the power goes out your computer doesn't go down at least not right away Yeah that's a good idea Hey let me jump in on those thing here You know last week I was thinking why don't they have and I was born in 1971 So Dick Clark started a new year's on 71 They should have done like a tribute of all those years instead of having a couple of guys getting drunk and all that I would have been awesome to have that like recollection of all the new years from Dick Clark from different years through the arrow I honestly don't know who owns that material anymore Obviously they still call it The Rock in New Year's Eve with Dick Clark because he started actually I think we're 72 But that company has been sold And I don't know who would have the rights So I was thinking that would have been awesome I would have had to wait Right probably no one thought of it which was a real shame I agree Some of the old clips would have been a lot of fun to watch especially some of the people that he interviewed you know because between 72 and 99 he literally was doing it himself And then of course he had a stroke and then was doing it in part with Ryan Seacrest But 72 to 99 those were solid years And on each of them he welcomed somebody on that show So sure I don't know All I can figure out is that it was either a rights issue because that always comes out of play Or it was just somebody's laziness who didn't bother to think about it Okay I think it's a great idea I heard you were talking about one more thing I heard you were talking about Miami so the network group is going to be doing something in a couple of weeks over there Where are you going Are you going I'm registered I think I need to book the flight and all that But I want to go Where are they holding it It's near downtown Miami That's not good enough They say they have over 250 R's BPs already But I'm sure a lot of them are like locals Right right There's a networking group have a name Yeah there are here in Chicago but it's the Hispanic I think it's just Hispanic pro That's the name of the group And they just started doing LA actually Hollywood The God for hotel where they're in Hollywood And then Miami Those are the two places they've been going outside of Chicago Looking it up and here we go Miami new year networking kick-off and it's going to be at 55 northeast 24th street All right There you go Yeah There you go that's it Okay Well sure I think it'd be great if you want Why not Yeah and be curious to find out how people are handling with Interactions and people are doing after what's going on with the COVID thing and all that and especially to hear about young people Remember you were talking about this week about why young people are kind of like passed in our fork That would be interesting to find out too People are thinking about that I want to get some feedback on that too I can report back on that Oh I hope you do Yes well if you go I definitely want to hear it Yeah I guess looking at that address I assume that's from wynwood And there's a mad club there So yeah I know exactly where this is Okay It's not far from the air Yeah I'll give you a feedback on that yeah Yeah yeah I'd love to know Yeah Okay Riley All right good deal I'm glad I'm doing better Yeah You two and my best to your mother I hope she's over it soon She.

"Done with you and radio I'm Roby James first I'm concerned the best backbeat in rock and roll history A double backbeat not much As D Clark Chicago's own And that 1959 and actually that was not as big as pop record but it was his biggest R&B record Got to number two in 1959 on Abner and just a fine record and playing it because it was 63 years ago this week that D Clark was headline Dick Clark Saturday night beechnut show along with a four prep Neil sedaka and Lloyd price All right so yes entertaining myself on that one if I say so myself So we got let's see a number of things Cleveland Dennis and Marlo and Mark and Lia and so let's do it to it Marlowe and Jackson How are you Hello How are you doing All right How are you holding up I'm all not good good You and John Adam Carol our young American Christmas You too In our happy new year You were talking about being Cody You passed away Oh really Yeah I believe it was 2015 Really I did not know that Oh wow Yeah Sure did Sessions with us with his trumpet named Andrew Loeb He was one of the members of Jackie And we would beat your brother tone 6 Oh I'm sorry to hear about Ben And yeah he was young He was born in like 47 He was he was so young He had just turned 20 when that plane went down Right Yeah That's a shame Yeah I hate to hear that Seems like every day we hear about somebody else I know it You never get used to it You hear it but it's things happen but you just can't get used to it but we know there's not a home We just pass and through Oh of course And no doubt that they are in a much better place but on a very selfish level were left here without them for the time being I know it's the blink of an eye on the other side but it seems like eternity here Right So what did Ben die off I'm not for sure I know where I had a stroke Why I'm not Because he was only like if it was 2015 he was only like 67 So what he was Too young I hate it so bad you miss him Yeah Do the best we can That's it Yeah Yeah when God get ready for us with time we just kind of accept it and actually we never get used to it but no you're out there Can't avoid it That's for sure Yeah but I thought I'd tell you that Did you get obituary that I see Yes it's beautiful Thank you for that Okay And your mom looks so lovely in that And like you say you didn't look much over 50 if that She was so young Right Right Well a life well lived And you know that's the way we all want to go So good for her and I know she's watching over you Really I really know she needs to watch it over Yeah absolutely But still you know that first Christmas it's hard It's only good cook and she do all that stuff Yeah We're gonna miss you You betcha you are Absolutely Have any of your sisters taking up the cooking gene Where am I supposed to do a little bit but it's not like my mother Well yeah Because I don't know how to cook the people like my kids in banana pudding There you go That's a nice specialty Yeah serious You eat too much when you fix it though Oh absolutely Every stage or the way And you say so I'm just sampling a little here Yes I need to have a little to see how it tastes Yeah I'm a recent peanut butter cup man Oh that's wonderful That's just a marvelous combination Yeah but I thought I'd let you know that Thanks Sorry to hear it and it's been that 6 years It's been a while and I don't know how I missed that Darn Adam and Carol and John and all y'all y'all have saved holiday You too Well all right All right Thanks for always good to hear from Marlow now 888-876-5593 at 88 88 Raleigh and that's gonna take us to Cleveland Dennis tonight in Elgin what's up Hi the discussion with Otis rating His last gig I have this right is Leo's casino Yes In Cleveland Ohio That's absolutely right Yeah And I actually looked it up at this correct online edition I know I know he was in Cleveland the night before He used I'm pretty sure he had all the cash She was paid on that on that flight as well It was the only operator I think on a cash basis I heard That's interesting The next day they had dredged the Lake and of course that's how they came up with all the bodies but I wonder if they ever did come up with luggage Don't know And say yeah but the other thing I want to mention you're talking about the mail and all this and you mentioned FedEx UPS the gel in our business on the international side They're known as integrators because they handled the pick up transport by air freight and then the ultimate delivery wherever customs clearance And it's really all I have tonight but.

"History of bandstand predates Dick Clark thank God And the guy who started it was bob horn in 1952 and bob was a nationwide so they railroaded railroaded bob horn because ABC didn't want them But the thing about bob horn that is amazing just like before I've talked about like rosalie crumbly and how on CK she was able to survive can con and still play great music Well in bob horn's day he was able to move from pop standards in 1952 to rock and roll at 1956 and the teens never missed a beat They love him So I think they need live people in radio to do music Well I don't care for this It's Donald canned music unit It's dollars you know sadly They say money though Well it's not a question It's not a question of saving money I mean sadly for the most part as an industry radio is so cash strapped as to it's not greed and it's not wanting to make more money It's trying to survive What happened with the telecommunications act of 1996 caused a feeding frenzy And we've talked a lot about this And unfortunately the debt ratios on these radio stations for many instances is so severe that they're lucky to keep the transmitter running So that's the reality for many of these stations And so it's very unfortunate Right because you know here's to me those great stations of Lolo and IBC Well sure but they didn't have any other guy I mentioned The stage of Detroit and all those and all I know a guy that actually worked for KDKA was a bit burger It remains there Right right and it was one of the two I forgot where it was but he knew he was a program director there Back in the 70s right But the old stations are gone and you can't and of course a.m. there's nothing on them now but talk not saying you're not talking You're lucky if it's talk what's dreadfully sad is that a lot of it is blocked programs foreign language things of this nature You go back 30 years ago and we were talking about like CK going to the music of what's left of your life the alham format Well secondary am stations would do that routinely would try for a niche market maybe those over 65 Well the today they just LMAO to somebody speaking a language we don't understand So it's self fulfilled prophecy You know years ago by the 80s everybody said well teams will never listen to a.m. That was the prevailing logic And of course top 40 had been dead and buried And when it came back in 1982 as CHR temper hit radio the first station that did it was an a.m. station in Houston the old kolf KK a.m. at 7 90 It went to number one and one booking team So they'll list another problem of course And hard Hanks who owned at the time recognized this is that if they didn't immediately put it on FM somebody else was so they had to eat their young and do that But initially those teams found it and they made it number one and teams So if you put something on the air that people can not hear anywhere else they will find it if they want to hear it You know I don't care if it's a.m. or FM or Z online If it's something people want to hear if they can hear it and they want to hear it they will I listen to a lot of stuff on Internet too I listen to scan that and get a lot of old data in fact I listened to your own not for a while I like the music You play on there Well the problem with the Internet if there's not a terrestrial tie in of course is it eviscerates the law of supply and demand So unless you know it's there no one's ever gone to Google and search for something they didn't know existed So it's true We wouldn't have known station out there that existed Of course not I heard on the radio Right Of course But that's true for everything And so if there's not a terrestrial tie in it is so difficult for streaming only to amass the audience It tends to do it through word of mouth but for the most part without that you're dead in the water because there's too much out there to find it all Oh you know Yeah That's true And as far as in another thing the device to legal early Don't go take a nap when you're cooking in the oven He had never do that You don't go take a nap from cook Well now remember now remember she did put another adult in charge Well yeah that's true too That was true too But it's a thing here It was around we always made a rule We never knew one of it took a nap when he was cooking She did leave an adult in charge I will get her for that But no either but she's here to know when you get a clean grease out of the oven You know she'll never forget it Don't forget it No no She won't forget it So you know I mean I think if nothing else she should stick with takeout but we'll see how she does on her next loaf of bread Teaser We should listen to you Yeah there we go I can't wait to hear about her next creation All right thanks I appreciate it All righty What we've done here since I did make that deal with the fire department that I don't cook and they don't come there's certain little things I can make that I know will not set the house on fire but when it comes to something like a steak John just cooks it outside on the grill away from away from the house So the most you could actually I was going to say the most good burnout is a tree but there's not even that So a very little could go wrong So other than sometimes the weather being inclement that has saved us from any major errors I tell you what Holiday is a wonderful time for cooking creations And particularly if you're invited over and somebody's got the virtual smorgasbord of food items how often are you like the alka seltzer commercial.

Chocolate covered pretzels. While where they come from. Guess what it's a mystery. Now some some sites say that it's like There was this guy that owned a pretzel. Factory in next door was a chocolate factory. So you know they got together. I said oh. Let me dip my pretzel in your chocolate. Which by the way is not a good pick up line but they did that and that is some people. That's what they say is the start of chocolate covered pretzels. But really it is a mystery. And you know i was thinking with the popularity of all these true crime podcasts. Perhaps if you want to start a podcast you could start one like the true origin. Podcast for food. Where you know. There's so many foods out there. We don't know the exact origin and you can help to have people figure that out. Once every it's an idea all hosted just let me know all right. "So you're constantly listening studying getting everybody's opinions and you know players you guys especially that are so passionate about studying like bobby wagner and a russell wilson and they. They watched so much film there in the mix you know they. They can tell you things that that other people can't necessarily tell you that's like that's why like having you know former players on our staff as well because they can tell you you know certain things that we may not see or just you know where are blind spots are nother moment john schnatter. That doesn't mean you're always gonna that doesn't mean you're always gonna agree right. You know you listen you communicate and you make you know. At the end of the day people have to make decisions. And you know my job is to listen and and You know work with work with pete and and And keep steering the ship. The way we have another moment john schnatter. I've do believe. Pete bristled when i brought up his i went there. I brought up his age. You know because he is as a jim. Brock meyer call. What like the world's youngest student world's oldest teenager is that what he called him in the world's oldest teenager the dick clark. Now the dick. Clark's know where this is with jim brock. The famed of announcer said I brought that up to him and how much longer he wants to do it. And and then. I immediately regretted it. Because i i heard it in his voice like what are you trying to do. Rich is what he said. I think that's what he said What what what can you tell me about about. Pete's long term future a work about working with him every day. Yeah it's it's been the same twenty years older than me and he. There are many days where i feel like i'm twenty years older than him. Right is just a ball of energy. His brain is going a thousand miles an hour Enthusiastic positive You know if you walk in. He calls my office the dentist office. Because i'll have like smooth jazz on watercolors. You know china to study and listen to people. Try to get the stress off right and is often he his office. And it's like you got you got me. You got music playing. You got three. Tv's going he's studying film and he's trying to talk to you at the same time and i always have to say can you. Let's just can we just mute this or my brain my brain. My brain does not work like years. But no he's great man he he He just keeps going and going and going. And and and You wouldn't you wouldn't know it is like my point. He's out there throwing the football. He's got a bad shoulder throwing the ball. Like what are you doing man you know. He's just days is awesome. So he's he's going to be the coach there for a long time. John right like i would think i would think you know. Yeah i have no reason not to think he wouldn't be okay Before i let you go. I'd love a story about decay metcalf about the first time he saw him about Anything i'm so fascinated by him. My kids can't get enough of him just because not only because they they love him on their fantasy teams but you know the different hair color. His choice of mouthguard. Everything about him is fascinating too young and old and i would love story anything that you could tell me about when you knew you thought you knew anything. I'll give you the floor on that. Yeah my son says. He's hilarious on instagram to. I guess attack right the kid. The kids think he's pretty awesome. It's a good but You know i. I think I would think with him. He was such a a an interesting study because he absolutely blew up the You know blew up the columbine so he had so much hype around him There were aspects of his game where everybody kinda picked him apart Our staff to particular was really excited about you. Know just a pure intangibles and his work ethic think you know. He's having his father plan the league. There's a level of maturity about him and so when You know when he was still available we made that move with with the jets or the patriots. Excuse me to go get him. And just i guess just to see the always wanna have buying from from the coaching staff when you make a decision like that and so you know we had a bunch of stuff going on and and Pete was like whoa. He's johnny we're on the clock round the clock. Again on my. Yeah we just. We just traded with the england. We're gonna we're gonna take. We're gonna take my effort here. And he's like mccaskey's voted. We're gonna take mecca for it here in the whole room just like exploded. You know like he's like he has. We're taking half. We got metcalf. So i think that excitement where you have the buy in from your coaching staff. So usually you've seen the clips recall guys all the time and some guys are really excited. Some guys aren't he. Was you know. He was very emotional. you know kinda pissed obviously wasn't taken earlier but I would say you know just like initially. That's that would be like a thought that comes to my head or a story that comes to my head about him because Having the buying from the coaches to really wanna work with this guy and and try to help him be the best. You can possibly well. The i i saw them was at the combine when he did jump out of the building and run out of building and lift out of the building and did all that but he also i believe it was his mom who he them facetime right away because of the neck injury that he bet that caused him to maybe think that he's not going to have a career and then his decision to leave when he did with everybody questioning whether he was viable or not and he crushed it at the combine and he got all emotional. I will never forget that. And then you know the story about what apparently happened with jim schwartz. You know before the game in philadelphia where he said he reminded mcalinden any use that as fired torch them. He's just a totally right kind of player. It seems.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association to Vote on Reforms

"Thursday. The association that awards the Golden Globes is set to vote on reforms after more than 100, heavy hitting Hollywood publicist threatened to stop doing business with the group. Reforms would fundamentally change the way the Hollywood Foreign Press Association does business. It's a big question whether that's going to happen, and there's a lot of people waiting to see. It's not just the publicists and time's up in these advocacy groups. But NBC, which broadcasts The show and Dick Clark Productions, which produces the show that Stacy Permit a staff writer at the L. A times who detailed years of unethical and possibly illegal conduct in an investigation of the H F P A She spoke with us earlier today, and I asked her about some of the conduct in question. They ran the gamut from issues of sexism and racism and homophobia to that I convention is one publicist said that They had an actor, amateur actor and one of the members asked them. Do you still have sex at your age on brother situation and actor came out and they asked him if he was going to be filing for bankruptcy again. I mean, these are questions that are inappropriate in any form and certainly have nothing to do with the project that they're there to talk about him promote, but more important, and perhaps more more damaging. They described that the age of P a would snub clients. Those clients, particularly if they were people of color if the projects they represented were led by people of color or non a listers. So why is this this so significant? So first of all, in order to get a nomination, a Golden Globe nomination. You need to get in front of the H F P A. And that means one of their sanctions, screenings and press conferences. So if you're not going to get their attention, you're not going to get a nomination. And a nomination. It's become a huge marketing tool in the industry, which translates to attention for the projects that it translates to box office, which means money talent themselves. You know, with the nomination or wind on her hand, can use that you know when they're leveraging their next deal, so it's part of the Hollywood eco system.

"New Year's Eve, my kids I got a 10 year old in a nine year old now and Henry had a birthday. My 10 year old is super into staying up till midnight on New Year's Eve. That's so exciting for me, we go to the we go to the Circle K, and he gets to pick out like three junk foods and a giant Coca Cola. Oh, boy, It's just to stay up all night Long party, So he's got cheese balls and gummy bears and big Coca Cola. It's awesome. It's a basic and just thinking about that makes you wanna puke. I know I just can't get away. He's so excited about it. And his his younger brother, Henry is now nine and the kind of wanted to be into it, But he's not much of a stable ladies go to bed early, get up early sort of guy and doesn't really like junk food, but he kind of played along. You almost made it to midnight, but he made it till according to the midnight when we're rocket watching Dick Clark's Rockin New Year's Eve Dick Clark has been dead for quite some time. On and rocking again. Virtually every aspect of that title is in dispute. Rocking New Year's Eve did appear to be New Year's Eve with Ryan Seacrest, which also featured What's that the most popular band in the world and B T k E T that so that was a serial killer in Wichita BTS. Happily VTs he had the most popular band in the world by far. That came out and did their weird androgynous. Are you a girl or a boy? Are you 40 or 15? The boy band backed right, which is just I don't I don't even know what that is. I don't know what the appeal is or whatever. But that's you know, certain crowd goes crazy for that. And then shortly after that you have these 70 year old Cindy Lop Er and she got the close to midnight slot. Yes. Which is why lining I gotta believe he s Opened for Cyndi Lauper in 2020. I gotta believe that you know, agents work really hard to get that close to midnight slot when the most people are watching course. Yeah, and it's usually somebody really happened was fricking Cyndi Lauper, who had a hit in the early eighties. And she's really old now and she was dancing around really weird, like an old lady reminded me a Robert DeNiro in the Irishman. He's too old actually do the moves he used to do. Cindy Lauper was like that. She's kind of stiff legged and almost fell down once and both. My kids were all cracked out on Coca Cola and junk food or, like, what was this? They were just laughing so hard at this grandma who was stumbling around on stage in front of you know nobody in the streets there. Look, I'm no way just I mean, I've watched Robert plant It's of leads Apple in lately, and he's still making great art. But he's not leaping about the stage and super tight jeans like his 1972. I've seen fat old bluesman on a study stool playing their stuff. It's fine. I got an agent and like, Sean said, Who is this four, though? Well, you wanna call it tuning in that once, both of or either of those right? We got to get the clip where At 1.1 of her assistants says you've got to take off your scarf. You should take off your scarf. She starts yelling. Stop it. I'm on camera with her New Jersey accent or whatever, so unfortunate that her incredible performance was marred by some backstage hostility but again. Whose ideals Ryan Seacrest's deklerk from Beyond the grave. Who made that higher. Really? I want a name. Yeah, I don't know God that was made by kids. Reaction to it was hilarious, though. She says. All this grandma, they kept saying it turns out is true. Yes. Oh,.

I thought that with the woman sold them are saying, Imagine right before the top of the hour, which is a great song, But I didn't think it was I thought was kind of hoping I hated the music's getting energy. And I thought I thought, you know. Okay, Well, we still have one kind of from my generation. I'm not thrilled with her music, but Cyndi Lauper. Yeah, okay. Girls just wanna have them And then my my ears started literally like bleeding during her performance. How can someone that famous with them? Any records? Be that off key. I don't know. And then the second song she did. It sounded like she was making it up as she went along. I like this lyric. Let's just throw that in there. Well, it was just awful. Hey, Ebony's or should we get to the program, But now that the holidays are behind us? Well, I just want to make the point that this is just like any other show. That's what I was going to get to. This is a game show it was last week. I don't care if it's 2020 or 2021. The same dark thing. It's a place for you together together with friends and neighbors in a socially distanced environment and talk about something that everybody deals with all the time And what's that thing, Tommy? It's called money. Nicely done. Yes, well, I appreciate it. And in this day and age we are we Of the Universal Week. All of us who are looking for a little bit of money from our money, particularly the money that you want to keep safe emergency money. We were looking at I'm looking right now. Bankrate dot com and the best CD rates in the country, one year CDs How much and a half a percent. So you give them $10,000 get 50. 50 bucks next year, while that's that's not much, okay. But here's the thing that leads to people making a lot of mistakes, because, well, I see you're looking at this and going well, That's nothing. I need more yield. What should I do? Well, number one. You should not have a lot of money in cash. Perhaps anyway, that's a whole. We talked about this before. There's like $17 trillion in bank accounts that are making less than one half percent. But for those of you say, I got to make more money. I got to go somewhere and find some bonds. Boy if we got a deal for you just kidding. We don't have a deal for you. We don't want you. Yeah, I mean, come on. People are getting into the bonds, and it's just when you thought it was safe on Lee to be in like Corporate high yield bonds of Don just mentioned John John. How about How about how about going a little further further east to go to how much further a field and weak. Wait quite a while. Quite a ways used Pakistan whose Pakistanis? Yeah. Former a former social Soviet Union republic. That is the great news is they just Sold two trillion who's back? Some shouldn't call these some bonds. I don't know. Maybe I got it wrong, boy. Them some bonds. There are so much Yeah, Well, what if they're real? What is the song here? Three years. You give your money for three years. On the yield. 14.5% 14.5%. I haven't seen the man like those since Tesla's stock and fact remember 2020. Tessa went up 700% No kidding. Other have been bonds issued by any quality organization or government and at that rate in the United States for about 40 years. Well, The good news is how many trillion worth of some It doesn't matter. No one trillion to true trolls work the song. How much is that in American currency dollars straight. Hold on already Know how much it is No. Two trillion two. I don't even know if I could punch into trillions already. I already know the amount so if you're gonna go what is it like $23 million or something? 20 million. Pardon me? 200,000,200 million, right? Not some. That's true that song Bond there. You don't want to talk about it. And the thing about this. It's some denominated. Yeah, Exactly. That's the other part. Here's the problem. Let's say you bought us some bond back in 2013. And you held it today. Well, just just because of the currency drop, it's worth half what it was. When you put the money into it. Their currency has dropped by 50% since 2013..

I don't know if anybody watched the anybody watch any of the shows last night, you know, I'm talking about the new year's shows. They have Dick Clark's Rockin Eve. I saw some of that. Yeah, you know, it was weird about Dick Clark's Rockin Eve. If I could just it's weird date there in spots. Five minutes to midnight. It's five minutes to midnight. I flip over. Actually, I watched from I'm going to say about 6.5 minutes to midnight until through midnight there in spots. 6.5 minutes to midnight and five minutes to midnight and a four minutes to midnight. Now, that's Ridiculous. You can't be in commercials at that time. You should be clear because people are fishing around. And you know the reason. I know this is because I've heard many a network executive. Discuss it when I was a Fox. I used to do all those new year's Eve shows. I mean, really, when I was a fox, because either I was remember, I hosted one year with Spike Feresten. You know who Spike Feresten has it? It's kind of a Reference that some will get because Spike had a great late night show on Fox. He's very funny, and he was a writer on Seinfeld. And he did the B movie You know Jerry Jerry Seinfeld's The B movie. A Spike wrote that with Jerry Seinfeld spikes, very funny and very talented. We co hosted the show from Las Vegas and I was supposed to happen at midnight was Robbie can evil Who at that time was doing a bunch of specials for Fox? He was going to jump the volcano in front of the Mirage Hotel. And They have this. One of the big attractions in the early days of the modern Vegas was in the barrage went up. It was a Steve Wynn hotel. They had that big volcano feature in front and these You know, in the same way the Bellagio fountains go off regularly, The volcano would go off regular show at midnight. The deal was he was going to jump the volcano. So I did that. And you know they're musical acts. And you know all the stuff that they have every New Year's Eve on every New Year's Eve show, But the deal that we knew about that Fox was that everybody watch. Dick Clark didn't matter what we had, you know? Jesus coming back at midnight. It wouldn't unless he's coming back on Dick Clark's show. No one's gonna Watch it, You know, so We kind of understood that. But you heard a lot of these conversations like you want to clear midnight. You know, because people are turning on the TV oftentimes at the last minute to see the ball drop and to see the countdown So I was just amazed that ABC was in commercials. So we flipped over to NBC. You watched Carson Daly..

I'm really happy for him, and he's got a chance to do that with the best moment, So we had to catch an early flight today. So while Tiki was in bed tucked under the covers at around I'm guessing knowing Tiki. Probably. What do you think They're boys? James Got a rope at 9 30 70 stirred pedal one. Some 30 sounds pretty fair, right? So hey, did that and I had the exact opposite first on what a great I have. I've always enjoyed cooking. Right, But I'm gonna be totally honest with you. I never really enjoyed cooking with my wife. It never felt like I like to cook and I like to carve out my own space, And usually it's grillwork, but I actually oddly enjoy the You know the preparation Phase two. There's something that is very Um, just very Adam just like balancing about chopping stuff up like they're like precision like the ninja skills, whether it's peppers, whether it's onions, whatever might be I've always enjoyed the prep phase, and that, of course, may be poor. He saw himself a little something and you go out and you work the grill. But Christmas Eve in and New Year's Eve. It has actually been joint and it has been phenomenal now. What happens when you cook with your wife? You tend to drink a little bit more. I think that there's different ways to drink and I told you on Wednesday. For me. I told you yesterday that Would be and be hurt a little bit today, and I am not gonna lie to you after the year. 2020 don't think I'm throwing a few down. We crazy Of course I did. And if you didn't I mean, unless you abstain from alcohol, which I fully respect I get through for Multitude of reasons, but it's odd. What on a little bit less like good? I mean, how could you not? I noticed now like when you there's a big difference, and I guess I'm just entering a bit of a different phases as Senate don't like there's listen, I've never been in that. I've never been a binge drinker. I guess at some point, everybody binge drinks in college. Whatever. When you with the boys, but last night was Maura about poor little wine. Chop up the Schramm. Poor low wind check on the lobster tails. Poor low wind check on the crab cakes Pour a little wine. You know, check on the kind of work the grill for the for the meat. So it was a lot of fun And you know, like, Like so many of you, I don't know you. What do you guys watch You guys who are younger than antique and I When you get to The ball when the when the ball drops and, of course, totally different celebration last night, But when the ball drops are you locked in on? Uh, you know. Ah, conventional channel you going? You know Dick Clark Rock And either you watching cable that what do you guys watching to see? The coverage leading up to the ball. Drop bt I'm a big dick Clark rock and Eve kind of guy I used to love when he was on, so I just had a habit will always watch that one out of respect. You gravitate to the old G. I got you. What about you, James? I'm a Dick Clark. I as well, man. It's got to keep that on. I mean, I think it's tradition like it's not. It's the Wouldn't be like a New year's Eve celebration. I didn't have the dick Clark in the background, totally agree. You know, I did that, too. We bounced around a little bit. But you know the one thing that I always I always have to do like I always have to throw on CNN to just see what direction that show was going. Beecher's Let's face it. Nobody has more fun on the years. Even those guys, I mean, I mean, I've seen and remember a couple that we were hosting people House household. The people, you know, some left some right. Someone between we're watching. Both were bouncing around. And, you know, one year Don lemon is like piercing this year. One year he's like thinking about to get a tattoo every year, Anderson Cooper seems to be out of his absolute mind. I mean, I I wish I wish that I could just for once there was show like that, right where I could get in front of a camera and I could drink or do whatever I want, and I don't have to worry about anything like, Wouldn't that be great? Just to have the latitude to have that much fun guys right with no corporate repercussions. You want a drink? I want point. Who's Andy says to Ah Anderson Cooper, I guess Anderson reference something about colors like some sort of broad, You know, like a firework e color spectrum if you will. And he said, I guess it's kind of like an acid trip and then and he said, Well, how do you know it's? Although I wouldn't know and Andy's idea, let's do some answer tonight. What he said. He said We're gonna go back to my crib will do some ass and I think he was kidding. On that. Don't know that Anderson Cooper took him up on it. But I do enjoy, uh, Fox let their hair down a little bit. I don't know if they were quite quite like that, but I like seeing you know, serious, uh, and semi serious outlets. Letting loose a little bit you had you had to let loose last night. You absolutely had to the year that we've been through. I don't need to reset everything. But I mean, geez, um just and personally for me, you know, said there's a few times would take over the over the months, but it was. It was only a few months after you know, the year's Eve 2020. And here I am, sitting in the garden doing the ST John's Creighton game and at halftime, and I knew the game was gonna get canceled..

"The veto of the defense bill and the refusal to act on the checks could very well be among McConnell's final acts as majority leaders. Two Republican senators and George are in a runoff next week that will determine which party controls the chamber of the outgoing president's been berating Republican leaders for the standoff. But he appears and more focused on gathering Republican support for his electoral college challenge of Biden's victory when the votes tallied. On January 6th it will not work. Fellow Republican critics of Republicans who are supporting the scheme say they are grandstanding for the president's base. President Trump made an early return Thursday to the White House from his private club in Florida. He and President elected Joe Biden separately poised to stump in Georgia ahead of Tuesday's election, as Republican senators David Perdue and Kelly Leffler face Democrats Jonah Stuff, and Raphael Warnock, both men addressing the Corona virus pandemic on New Year's Eve, President Trump telling Americans everyone's calling him toe. Thank him for the Corona virus vaccine. A truly unprecedented amazing medical miracle. Normally developing a vaccine is a ventilators and millions and millions of masks virtually overnight. Nobody thought it could be done. We ignored the experts who demanded open borders and we shut down travel from China and Europe to protect our citizens and we built the wall. We pioneered groundbreaking new therapies and treatments that we saved millions of American lives over and over again. We were told it would be impossible to deliver a vaccine by the end of the year. All of the experts said absolutely unthinkable. Trump is exaggerating. It can't happen and we did it long before the end of the year, they said. It would take a medical miracle, and that's exactly what it is. Years from now they'll be talking about it. They'll be talking about this great great thing that we did with the vaccines a truly unprecedented amazing medical miracle. Normally developing a vaccine takes up to 10 years. Thanks to Operation Warp speed. We developed a vaccine in just nine months. We've already begun a nationwide vaccination program and we're sending the vaccine all over the world. The world will benefit will benefit and everybody's calling to thank me. President elect Joe Biden, who's been critical of the slower than expected vaccine rollout, was joined by future First lady Jill Biden and Ryan Seacrest on a Dick Clark's at New Year's Rockin Eve Special. Kidding aside, my mother used to have an expression. It's a bravery resides in every heart someday and be summoned. People were.

He's got to have somebody as his chaperone the whole time. Even if there's a teleprompter there, it's like he's squinting his eyes and I mean his mouth is wide open like it's hard for him, even with a prompter. It's almost like when he's reading it. He doesn't believe what he said He's hearing that information for the very first time. When he reads something off of a prompter.
