"The milk punch. It's been the drink of the moment for too long to ignore the new york times said of them this summer in the first six months of twenty twenty one the rate of mentions of espresso martinez in. Us food and restaurant reviews is up nearly three hundred percent from the same period three years earlier. This is all according to yelps data science team which traces trends dimensions of dish names and reviews from users. There's now even a candidate and something that my martini morals will simply not allow me to get behind. I myself had my first ever espresso martini. This past february as a martini traditionalist. I took a hard stance long ago. That i'd withhold ordering anything but my traditional drink a simple tito's martini served up with two olives or maybe even some cocktail onions to mix things up. I sat at the montage hotel. The hotel where. I got married just a year before and i sipped their version of one while overlooking the waves crash from the pacific on from the lobby bar patio with three beans floating like louise. And the frothy whitecaps. My world was opened up to something i had previously been morally opposed to. I sent a single photo to the person urging me to get when the most former guest of this podcast brought merryman and he could not have approved more with each sip. Came a slowly building confidence that the night would be more and more entertaining than i had originally thought and with my skin burnt to a crisp and the perfect weather for a sweater and some shorts i felt like i had finally found at the place truthfully. I've thought about that day ever since. Was that going to be the best espresso martini. That i'll ever have. Should i have led off somewhere less picturesque in less meaningful to me or should i simply repeat that saying that. You always remember your first with everyone that i order. Now on either way might indulges in. These has been few and far between ever since not for any particular reason outside of perhaps not needing that much of a caffeine liquor combination that late in the day but one night a few weeks ago i had a bit of extra time on my hands and open night at home with nothing to truly. Do i surveyed the contents of my liquor cabinet. Only to realize that i didn't have much in the world of mixers but when i looked down beside it however i saw something that became an inspiration are an espresso machine. Hark the herald angels sing. I have espresso. i have martini. And now i've espresso martini supplies or so. I thought unfortunately for me. I got a bit ahead of myself that night as it turns out i actually did not have the correct supplies. Apparently when dick brad. So debuted the drink at fred's club in london in the nineteen eighties. He didn't simply make a normal martini with espresso in it. And when i think about how olives would mix with the bitterness of coffee i can honestly see why however when a famous model asks for something that would wake her up as well as in. Pardon my language here fuck her up. The present day concoction was born two aunts vodka. A half ounce qaluwa a half ounce of espresso or an ounce of espresso a half half ounce of simple syrup and yes three beans to garnish the top shake strain and serve and we're off to the racist. Don't want it to sweet. You can eat. You can skip either the colusa or the simple syrup or you can substitute any any of the ingredients for anything else as those small little intricacies. Or what makes martini so perfect. In general to me. So while we're all just now easing back into group dinners or just being social for that matter around espressos before a big night may be the single most perfect move if your average age group is above thirty. Put down your advil. Vodkas say are of wa to the days when four loko had caffeine for that extra boost look no further than a trademark espresso martini. That was raised very strangely. I would have insisted upon you. Getting enough rest Yes yeah well you know life gets in the way. Sometimes I understand. Hey guys today we are doing. The Espresso Martini This one I love this one I have there. I love coffee. Yeah I love coffee. I can remember being a child and pretty regularly grabbing my mom's coffee because she would drink it black so it smelled the bus and just inhaling this loving the way it smelled and I'd give it a little taste and a hey. The wasted dentists like a small took a while to get in coffee. I used to. I used to go to coffee shops with my mom all the time. But again my pal. It wasn't ready for coffee so we don't have things like hot things and so my mom would get me a cup full of like foam equipped like the milk foam and then sit there and pretend to like drink coffee. And that's how I lick love the taste. But I can't do the jitters. You should never drink coffee okay. So you guys you've never had an Espresso Martini. There's vodka in it which fun there's Espresso in it. Which ooh honor and there's also cool so you have that night. Cilicia It's so good. It's so good like when we had the Spanish coffees COLUSA. It's all about Russia to my Russians. Yeah when you get coffee Are you a black coffee? Something in your coffee will win. I order coffee. I right you Lujan splooge when I asked her coffee like if I'm going to coffee shop. And they have the little square things. I'll ask for SPLOOGE VANILLA ICE COFFEE. Okay in an ice coughing okay. Yeah because they don't like hot things. Yeah I think I'm pretty mood dependent if I'M OUT FOR COFFEE. I'm probably not going to get a black coffee because I'm out and I don't know I feel like ordering chicken at a restaurant you can make chicken at home. Yeah the same thing. With my opinion on scrambles. I always get a yeah. You're getting yourself trade self. Yeah Yeah Anyway. This cocktail delicious. I love coffee. Yeah and I haven't liked the past couple. There's been a couple. You remember not liking drinks. You said you when you taste. I know which one the Bennett Bennett. The benefit beneficial. I'M GONNA go out on a limb and say I think you'd like the last couple. We've had who's to say what those were not documented. There's been so many cocktails between then and now sure. Yeah Yeah but you guys definitely head overture Instagram. And check out how to make this. We learned about this from a fan. Yes Oh my gosh thank you to. I'M GONNA try to try to pronounce it and then I'm GonNa just spell it. This is always fun. Hamza ninety seven. I don't think he tripped at all H. A. M. Z. A. H. Ninety Seven. All and he's like. Hey guys my name's Hamza. I love your show so much and listen every week. I used to be a bartender in Australia and a cool coffee cocktail. That isn't really popular here in the states is an Espresso Martini and they kind of goes into the history which I will include into the history. I'm about to tell you about this cocktail okay. A lot of this information came from Diego a BAR ACADEMY DOT COM and Hansa and Hamza. Yeah okay so this. Martini was invented by Dick. Brad sell in one thousand nine hundred eighty three. So not that old He was working at Soho Brasserie and it was originally Christian. The Vodka Espresso and cocktail lead legend. Has It that a young future? Supermodel came to the bar and ask Dick to make her a cocktail with coffee. And Ham saw said that it that the woman walked up to the bar said I need something to wake me up and fuck me up. Yeah so in so dick was like I got you. So he makes a vodka sugar coffee liqueur and a shot of espresso. And there you go this Martini was born in case. You were wondering. Dick also came up with a couple of other cocktails. He came up with the bramble. He came up with the Russian Spring Punch and the treacle. I have no idea what a treacle is the first to sounded like I'd like Tillich bramble. I feel like I've heard of a brand both. Here's why I think I like it yeah I love blackberries and raspberries and I feel like those from bramble bushes. Do you remember what we stopped at that? The bushel place we picked all the berries and we ate them off the vine. Yes that was quite fun. Yeah those memories like we had to do that. That was like you could tell it was in her mind because we were coming down to throw fun Portland and we're coming back to bed rather came down. Yeah and we stopped at this place. And I'M NOT GONNA lie to you guys. We had fun to Portland. And we were all not gonNa let guys so hung up on him and when we got to. Berry picking but it was so nice to like them off didn't feel well we off the vine and we're eating all these berries gave us a are it's Juvenile to juices did what's the how you say that word. Don't ask me. I feel like you might get it. Jiminy juvenile juices. Yeah and then we pass out in the car afterwards and make any anyhow so back to this cocktail so he made all these cool drinks but so he originally called the Vodka Vodka Espresso and then he changed bars. You went to the London bar called the pharmacy and then the cocktail started. It started to be known as the pharmaceutical stimulant doesn't roll off the tongue. And then he changed bars again and he started working. He became the head bartender at match bar. Easy ones bar and he started calling the vodka espresso again but because it's traditionally served on a Martini glass. It was dubbed this Bresso Martini. So yeah so yeah that's your espresso. Martini cocktail history. It's good I think that kind of wraps up cocktail hour for this evening k. Do you want it always makes me laugh when you say this evening and this afternoon it just sounds because cocktail hour? Five o'clock cocktail hours. Five o'clock it's five to six to be fair to be fair it is quarantine and I feel like that's Vegas time so it could be nine. Am circle cocktail hour. It's like a circle. Yes do we want to jump right into these matters? Yes okay here's the deal with mine. I'm going to just tell you about this person. Okay so feel free to Perrin question. Isn't that what we do every week? You just I'm not reading anything. I'm just telling you it'll be kind of disjointed and all over the place I'm GonNa remember different things at different points. Perfect but this this. I texted you earlier. Really scared me Okay I'm going to tell you about Israel keyes. Does that name mean anything to you? Do you want me to tell you the truth. Yes so you guys are super weird about telling you the names nowadays and so when I went to go search I started searching and this person came up and I read through it okay and I was like oh I got the perfect one and I told Kim ratio's like But Fun fact. I don't remember anything I read about the case. Here's here's the other part of it. There's no way in you doing your brief initial research That you've got all that I spent four hours crazy. Did you really know I was like? Why don't you tell me the name so I know not a it was like the boat? One remember the very first episode that we did and you called what quickly what his nuggets and he was the only one who kept popping up and I was. I can't click on that or that or that. It was so frustrating. 'cause I knew that you had a nice person to swim popped up so I guess anyway. Yeah the reason I know about this person so this was one more I told cameras like this is a really interesting case. I didn't know that much about it. I was like find me time to drink because I want to talk about this one and then she saw this time. And this is Kimberly. And you'll you'll see at the moment but I had heard about it because Mike at work read a book in entire book about Israel. Keyes out and he was like reading it and he'd be like you could tell it was like he was a visceral reaction to how crazy the story was and he'd like tell me little parts of it and it would freak me out. Yeah so I'll have to look up an I'll put it in somewhere. I didn't read the book but I would recommend that book to people. Just based off of Mike Recommendation. I listened to the PODCAST. True climbed bullshit. Ooh Name Oh my God it is so good so the first two seasons are about Israel keyes literally hours of if you're looking for a serial Podcast that about one story. It's exhaustively researched. There are a ton of. There's hours maybe fifteen to thirty. I can't remember Hours of interviews with Israel And they play a bunch of those clips in like recap talk and like try to Suss out because there's a lot of unknowns with the case But it has been an incredibly. I think I'm halfway through season two But it's a really good podcast. A true crime bullshit. I highly recommend it. Yeah it's really good and obviously I'm not going to be able to touch like there's just so much we're all if anyone's at all interested in. This story listened to that podcast because he will have way more details on it. Okay so Israel keyes a woman at a coffee shop like one of those like drive through small Shop Yeah Goes Missing.

"Your land law. Lumber. Now. Listen, I'm I can only report the facts here. I could lie. I have two choices. I could lie to you. Or I could tell you the truth. If I lie to you. I I won't be bragging. If I tell you the truth is going to sound like I'm bragging, but I always era towards the truth. I took Tronto who's now. I mean, you could almost say the co favor FAZ, Iran razor thin, and I'm plus money in all situations. Once again, it is our James bell. So I'm feeling good. What how do you think? I did if I think you knew that you wanted to Rondo and you actually may bid on Toronto. But you read Brad he's got like his Notre Dame. I had read on Brad. I little cloverleaf or leave clover Irish. Oh. Dick's Brad likes the Celtics. Let's get him in a bidding war against himself. 'cause that was interesting. I actually laid one twenty you bought it the way I said it was Guinot. Maybe as my last one that's got him. And here we are. So we'll be updating that. But let's take a second on feds right now looking at these odds who's overvalued and who's undervalued moggy plus when trying to to fifteen Boston to ninety Philly three thirty. You know, I'm fearful that my Milwaukee Bucks have become the overvalued quantity by becoming the clear favourite here. I don't know. There's any reason with the lack of playoff experience that they should be a favourite versus Toronto. And I would make the case even with a new player he has a championship and fire memory won the MVP. And in a way, you know. I I've told this story before the tech and story, I shoot a lot of pool. So I had a stick. You know, a true stick that you could break in the middle. You know, it was think it was a duffer. It was like, you know, it was like a hundred thirty dollars stick in the eighties. It was a nice day. And. When I was shooting bad. I would break it and read not break it. I would, you know break into the joint and then reseal it to say okay start over. Right. And you know, it's a little mental. If you actually watch fell back when you know, an amazing athlete swimmer. He had his deal where he would smack is arms and away and part of it was that it loosened them up, but part of it was he did it every time. So he put him saying golfers have this where there's a certain either thought process, a do or they do something with their foot. It's a trigger. So to me, you could make the case trial going to say. What are you talking about? We we haven't had playoff experience. This is a new team as much as Mike Tomlin is someone. I'm not a huge fan of one of the favorite things. He ever said was after they won the SuperBowl in two thousand eight against Zona. They opened up on Thursday night and they interviewed him before the game. And they said well how how's the Super Bowl champs gonna do whose we are not the Super Bowl champions? He goes the two thousand eight Steelers they're the Super Bowl champions. And they were a helluva team were the two thousand nine Steelers. A listen give the guy credit. That's a great way to think about it. You did nothing. You're in the history books for what you did. Now, we're playing today. I think Toronto in their own minds are going to be able to say, none of that matters. Because we've got a guy the point garner. The promised land. And they just picked up a guy Gasol who maybe isn't as good as he was certainly but still has a lot of experience of being on teams that do better in the playoffs back when he was with Memphis. So big question. More from walkie is plow experience NBA history houses, and we could even say go and stay is an exception because they had the year with Mark Jackson where they lose in the first round or segment can't remember. But I think it was the first, but they made but walk me the playoffs is your they made the playoffs loss in seven games to Boston without Gordon Hayward or Kyrie Irving..
