"Being with us. 809 41, Shawn, You wanna be a part of the program now? We watched what happened in Texas. Dino was a one in 100 years storm, right? Okay. I can understand. People weren't prepared. I certainly didn't like the stories. We're hearing about windmills, and I'll get to that in a second. Um, I was a little bit surprised, considering all the the energy natural resource is that Texas has Now, let me just remind you let me play for you. Some of the news reports on how as a result of this storm how electric prices are now surging all over the great state of Texas. This is important. I'm getting to a larger point Here. Listen, all right, we're moving on from the Texas power outage to the Texas power outrage. Electricity supply the orange line and demand. The Green line has finally stabilized. But boy wholesale prices for electricity in Texas got really nuts. Over the past several days at 1.1 Megawatt went from $50 to about $9000. Now that doesn't affect you, the retail customer as long as you're on a fixed rate plan, which most people are, But if you're on one of these variable or indexed plans, your rate and therefore your bill. And shoot straight up during this winter storm His electric bill for 3 M climbed to more than 17,000 bucks. It usually hovers around 600 a month. How in the world can anyone say that? Meantime, hundreds of you who did lose power. Tell me you're worried about your bills to on core confirmed an outage. It came Humphries house. It got so cold. She slept in her car with her pets for heat. That her energy company said during that same time her usage was spiking were told if you got a message like that from any power company, it's part of an automated forecasting system and you will not be built. So as a result of all of this, that's just part of it. Then we heard about these freezing windmills and wind turbines and solar panels. Well, that represents about 25% of the electricity generated and available The people of Texas. That's that's fully one quarter of their energy supplies. Then you add to that the once in 100 years storm is what they're calling it and you have natural gas pipelines that froze. You have other problems and like we often read about California about rolling blackouts. Listen to this report on how Texas windmills were frozen and that causing a lot of the power outages by the way, people died. Some people freezing to death. I mean, it was really tragic. Everything that happened there, Which is why Biden you should have made the whole state of natural disaster declared the whole state of Natural disaster area. Listen, the blackouts that are in taxes are being made worse by the failure of wind turbines, many freezing and the icy weather cutting output in half, and it's raising questions about the Lone Star state's increasing reliance on renewable energy. Statewide. Here there are 680 Power generation plants, natural gas plants, wind turbine farms, You know, nuclear power plants, all types of things there 70 to 80 of them about 10% are physically offline right now physically are not working, And that's because these power plants thought they were getting ready for the store made it effort to get ready for the storm for the freezing weather. But they did not properly winterize their equipment and their equipment has frozen and 70 to 80 different ones of these, And that's why we're seeing so many people without power. All right, So that's right out of Texas. Just straight news reporting here, man. Don't forget John Kerry. We only have nine years left to avert climate catastrophe. How much time do we still have left to avert climate catastrophe? Well, the scientist told us three years ago, we had 12 years to avert the worst consequences of climate crisis wear now, three years gone, So we have Diane Years left. Although they say it's gonna be too hot to live here in nine years, nine years, the tipping point John Kerry climate jar Just call them climate juror. He came out said it today. Well, the scientists told us three years ago, we had 12 years to avert the worst consequences of climate crisis. We are now. Three years gone, So we have Diane Years left. Remember, this is dust scientist is John Kerry said Donald the scientists. Well, the scientists. Yeah, well, the scientist you know, the scientists Nine out of 10. Scientists agree. Climate change What does that mean? Nobody knows. Nine out of 10 scientists it again to get back to this principle. We just talked about a few moments ago came in regards to schools and shutdowns with Cove. It Because it became disadvantage to question things you get called names. What do you want? Great about to die. Where does Master really where you want Grandma to die. That's how we debate in this country anymore. It's a Ziff. We took our brain, cut it in half and took the critical thinking part and thrown it away. What do you mean? The scientists who Who is he talking about? Because there are actual scientists who say the opposite is true. Be my brain just goes. Are we sure we're going down the path the right path. Wanna bring Bill gates into this conversation, too, because they only have nine years left before it is irreversible for Miami is underwater and all these other things. He was asked Bill Gates was about Elon Musk in his new climate book That is out. I saw it in Costco the other day. Here's what Bill Gates said about Elon Musk. I think what Ellen someone Tessa is fantastic. It's you know, probably single contribution to showing us that electric cars are part How we solve climate change, huh? There you go. Part of how we solve climate change electric car, And now he's got a carbon removal challenge s o. We need more Ellen. Mosques need more inland. Must Sounds fantastic, doesn't but I have some questions about electric vehicles. Because I've seen some research that suggests over the lifetime of an electric vehicle. It actually will admit more carbon into the atmosphere. I'm start to finish, then the current modern, combustible engines. That research seems pretty convincing. So then I dug into a little bit more last time was like I want to know. All of a sudden, there's new research the pop No way better for the planet. And I started digging some more. And I was looking at what actually makes up of the batteries in these cars. These Tesla's he's amazing vehicles of which one of my good friends has one, and it's an awesome vehicle. There's Element called cobalt in them. Cobalt is mostly mind in the Dominican Republic of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cobalt is basically the new conflict Diamond if you will, because there's all kinds of strife going on in Congo, because count was a very poor place, But all of a sudden you have these mines and you could get this cold vault and you can make Tesla's another electric cars with him. And all of a sudden you have all these people in the Congo moving to where the mines are, and there's conflict, and it's just like the old days of the diamond in Sierra Leone when people chopping each other's arms off to get to this rare material. You know what else is going on in Congo? China. Is out there building roads and putting billions of dollars in infrastructure. Why? Because they want access to the cobalt to make these electric cars and probably some weapons systems. Guess what. During the Obama administration, China started buying up more of Africa, promising to build roads and act to get access to these minds all well. Joe Biden is vice president was taken naps in the Oval Office couch. Rambling on China controls the flow of these elements Elon Musk and Tesla's is working with. They think it's a Swedish company to get the cobalt out of Congo to get it into his factories is gigawatt Factory has got one in Nevada, one in Shanghai and one somewhere in Europe. I think it's in Germany. We know what the impact of that is going to have on the Earth. I don't And I don't know anybody That does because part of the issue that you see in science fiction novels and you talk about climate change and you talk about oil is it's an Earth resource. And all those Fancy Hollywood people like to remind us that we're raping the earth of its natural resource is We're doing the same thing to plug your electric cars were taking resource is out of the earth and turning it into a battery of which we don't know what to do with the battery once we're done with it. So how do we know on an actual level? Whether or not this is good for the planet are bad for the planet. Because on one hand, maybe we reduced the amount of carbon dioxide that's in the atmosphere. Maybe Maybe That's not enough because we're also burying things into the ground that could have damaged to crop and soil and Who knows what else? We having that conversation? We asking that question? Are we really sure that this is the right answer to the problem? I admit that there's a problem. Try to do what I can I try to educate myself. We had solar sandy install solar panels on the roof. Why? I want to.

You're welcome. I'm glad you're here. I'm glad. Yeah. Loosen advance for giving me the leprosy. He brought into this place. That's what I'm worried about. Because he really did. Not look good yesterday. I knew how I I'm with you guys on your fight to have video for their show the show should be seen and heard every day. But luckily for move yesterday there were no working cameras on him. But that makes it even better when a guy looks horrible like he did. Horrible. He really looks sick. He looked at me. Like, maybe one of us should have been the adult like just go home. I know. I know. Yeah. I like to see someone grinded out about, you know, being a pro. But I think he'll be okay Melissa be back Monday. I'm sure I would assume so, but and we've got a packed show. He a great show right out of the box. We gotta talk about the reaction design wounds as we talked a lot about yesterday. Move scenario did about this young man, you know, th the superstar for Duke inches is niece sprains, his knees day to day right now, we find out, you know, we never really got your reaction loosen. I reacted to it. And you were doing your updates during the week. And after the yet, we weren't even talking to you. A lot of the talk was well, should you know, if a player like this guy's on wasted? He's a freshman in college. You know, he's gonna he's a wanted done guys go right to the NBA. We know about it. It's going to be a top top pick probably going to go to the Knicks as the number one guy. And we're on the same page where you know. He he probably should shut it down. Just not to affect himself financially going forward, or maybe the engineer, and then any other planets megastar like he has at such a young age eighteen years old that's gonna be jettison right to the NBA, but one we should get your take. I'd love to hear. This would also I think that that Wednesday night issue should change. What you thought Zion Williamson's to do in the first place. I to me if you're good enough, and you want to go to the NBA right away. He didn't have to spend a year in college two years three years. That's not for me. We should you should go freedom move wherever you want high school to college high school to the pros highschool to Europe high school to the G league should all be open and out there for you to make your choice in further your career and do what's best for you, your family would ever. So I always thought while I liked him playing at Duke, and it's been fun to watch those three guys. And who knows what they're going to be when he's back fully healthy, and we get even deeper into March and then into April what they actually will be on the court. I still didn't have the best team in the country assuming that Zairean gets back out there at full strength relatively soon. But you know, part of me thought you should be in the NBA old on because he's that good. And being generally just don't think the system is set up correctly for for the elite players that should be able to make money immediately to kill a year somewhere not in the NBA. Right. So I think if you just jumped on Wednesday night Thursday morning if that threw off the alarming your head like, oh, these this is stupid. I just I think you're late to the party on that you no, I got you, man. And and you know thing too is think about it. If you're a player that hypothetically is play for Duke and your junior or your senior or your sophomore anything butter freshman, but let's say upperclassmen junior senior. And you haven't gotten a lot of burn your freshman year because there was a different Zion. Williamson you know, what I mean? And then you get a lot of burn your sophomore year. So now, you're gonna get a chance to junior to get to get some good amount of minutes. And now that don't happen because then there's another new red hot freshman covenant. But my point when I'm getting that is. And these guys that can these young guys at high school that come in and no knock on them. They're mega stars. And they're great players. And then they leave and take about that kid who's the junior or senior on the bench and keep on waiting. You know that that's frustrating. You know, if you're the parent of that kid, you all that kid the the person the player that is in air quotes dedicated to the program. Right. Not looking to just use it as a stone right to the NBA. And I think, you know, part of of the way I think things should go. I kind of end up liking what baseball does like baseball. You can get drafted high school. Right. And if you so choose go right away to play minor league baseball or you go to college. And you're in college for three years, then you're back in the draft after your junior year. And then you had the choice again to leave or stay for one more in my perfect world. You're free to go from high school right to the NBA. But if you choose to go to college, then I'm okay with them saying, maybe you should stay in college for a couple of years. And then that way you have we have the ability to enjoy guys like that. And we have we learn about players. We learn about teams, and there are multiple year stories not just hitting the reset button years year about what Dookie as North Carolina at can. And then that kid, you know, whoever it is on the Duke squad. Now, there's white there's O'Connell there's like those guys then become household names. Those guys get to play and they're not in your in your example of supplanted by Diane year after year after year. I mean, that's a tough thing. I mean no-one thinks about that player. No one thinks about that players family. No one thinks about that's that's a stressful thing, that's a tough thing to deal with you know, it's like. And you know, that's the conversation. I'm sure these people have by the scenes, you know, after a game. Like, yeah. I only played a couple of minutes. Meanwhile, this kid's a star. He's great. And he's only here for a Cup of coffee because he's leaving. It's frustrating on the flip side, though. I mean, you know, what you're everybody signing up for your, right? That's a good point. If you're going to Duke or UNC somebody wanted to one the big blue blood. You know, you're right. That's a good point. That's that's that's the deal. So you could go someplace that's a little less or maybe where you know, you're gonna you're gonna play a whole bunch. And you know, so it got me thinking I was wondering like baby was a little bit of an overreaction to everything would Zion because the injury looks so bad, and he blew and we'll get into a little while how bad that looked for Nike would happen. But, but you know, I I'm wondering because there's been a lot of NBA players yesterday sounded off about this whole situation, you know, should Zion. Just move on. Doc. Ships saved to risk more injury. Let's take a list right here to the Marcus cousin. He was very outspoken in regards to the NCAA and best general. No now. Basketball. My best. How's the college? Really? Your number. So.

"Television talk. Today's talk sponsor is Paul crepe pants. Thank you for that sponsorship in order to just realize listening to the television talk Fien jingle thing there that I made. It's one of the very rare occasions where one of the songs in the jingle is what we're talking about. Yes. Cheers. If you listen to think it was last episode, maybe it was one before spoke of cheers, the Diane Chambers's years. So now I'm going to talk of the Rebecca years because that's sort of how I broke it up into inferno reason. Really just the that's sort of a good delineation. I feel like. I don't know if I mentioned it in my talk of the Diane years that I do enjoy the Rebecca years more. I don't know. There's just something votes Shelley long and I don't even know if it's her character necessarily so much as the actress that that kinda rubs me the wrong way a little bit. Not not to like a huge degree. Not like it doesn't make me love the show Lassen though. Maybe it does. I don't know, but something about Rebecca's character. It's just the melt so well with the rest of the Catholic. Like because she sort of a. She starts off sort of like a a little different. I guess the change happens pretty quickly where she becomes sort of a lovable loser, which a lot of them a lot of the characters on cheers, basically, at their core, they're all sort of just lovable losers, like even Sam who's like this really cool ladies man. He does have shit go wrong for him a lot. These episodes. I think all of my favorite ones will sort of appear in these in these seasons one that I don't know why I was jumps out of my mind. There's there's one with Rebecca and norm where norms painting Rebecca's boss's house. So she's like, oh, yeah, I I wanna get in there and snoop around a bit and check out what he's got in there and she sort of gets trapped. I in a closet and then under the bed because he doesn't want her Boston. Always there. That one, what's it called? A very a farcical yet. It's like a farce, which is something that more and more happens. In Frazier, I think Frazier has the best sort of farce episodes of all period full stop Otit. You know what? I just realized I'm supposed to also talk of suits season seven. So the top over to that, let's just say cheers of the Rebecca years. This is one of my many, many rewatching. Of the show. The show is a whole easy to give five to five, Rebecca years five out of five, this whole God damn thing. It's like a like a warm hug from from eleven parents. I free in love. Cheers, just comfort.
