"We're talking about a piece of legislation of assigned to stand it. Diane Sullivan or Professor Sullivan. I should say you have you have sent letters to I guess many members of the Legislature about this legislation that has been filed for you. Bye. State Senator Bruce Starr, and you've got a pretty good response. So far. I have unauthorized hot off the senators and the representatives have even sent me pictures of their cats. And everybody has reacted very favorably. The one criticism I received is that Hey, they thought the number the maximum number for recovery of 30,000 was too low. Most of them say you should you know, you should have put it. At 100,000, and my response is, you can change it. Okay, Chris, Before I let you go, I want to know you spent how much time and how much money and how much frustrated in Trying to basically find out that you had at the end. Really? No recourse here in Massachusetts, if you had lived in other states of Diane Sullivan told me today that I guess there are a few states Tennessee, Illinois, California, Ohio. On Also, I guess a couple of other states that have some exceptions. Washington, Georgia and Florida You had no recourse in Massachusetts health. Frustrating. Was it again in the days after you've lost your beloved dog, Crawford? It was. It was very frustrating. I reached out to a few different lawyers. I did Look at how I could approach it, and there were no real angles to approach it without kind of backdoor ng things and finding other ways of Trying to seek justice, but I spent almost two years Um in and out, of course, writing things Discovery and, um, a substantial amount of money north of $50,000. Wow and I at the end I did reach a satisfactory outcome, but it wasn't It wasn't an easy path for anyone to take to me. If you don't mind what was a satisfactory outcome under the circumstances, there was obviously no statutory relief available. Do you want to Did you And did you have a settlement with the and you don't have to disclose how much but But we say, satisfactory out Come. I assume you had a settlement with the veterinarian. I did. Yeah. Okay. Front of white and I'm sure that you felt we have a non disclosure agreement. So we'll let that go. But it wasn't made easy for you. Let me grab a phone call or two, Chris. I'm gonna let you go at, um At 8 30. We have a couple of other guests who may join us on the phone, but let's go to the calls. Martin is in Natick. Martin. Let me get get the calls going here, Martin, you're on with Chris McDonald on Diane Sullivan. Professor Diane Selwyn, the assistant Dean at the Massachusetts school a lot. Go ahead, Martin. Hi, Dan. Um, I'm actually in one of Dean's Sullivan's students. And I'm uh, very passionate. Uh, dog. Yeah. Dog lover. Not so much with cats, but I fully support All of the efforts of Seen Sullivan and Chris and in the other folks who have Um Gotten the assistance of senator tired to bring forth which known as Crawford's law s the 25. And, um, in assisting Professor Sullivan are Dean Sullivan. You know what I've really found? Is that Under the law. Dogs are not persons and therefore they can't be considered victims under state restitution statutes and typically restitution for the wanton, reckless or negligent. Killing the dog is limited to its replacement value. And obviously Has You know, those are antiquated laws because now we view our animals as much more than just Property, and there was Joe we do We view them his family members, and you did. Um, e. I don't know if you're still in school, or if you're you're practicing yourself again. Damages to the owner. Whose dog a cat has died, as result of a willful, wanton, reckless or negligent act of another, and I don't want people to walk away with any sort of misunderstanding. There's no uh, award here for the pain and suffering of the animal. Although animals are Centeon Um, you know, they sent any centeon animals? I mean, they they have feelings just like we do. They feel pain. Um, uh, Metta fact, Professor Professor Um, Solomon, you were talking today about a case fairly well known case in Washington state dealing with the guard named Chucky. Correct. Yeah, Let's talk about that Washington state case of five years ago, I read the unpublished opinion and the jury in that case awarded intrinsic value and emotional distress damages. Now, what does that what happened? And what does that mean? Chucky. The dog was shot by neighbors accidentally negligently doing from target shooting. That was bad enough, but then they concealed Chuckie's Where about This dog spent the whole night lying there dying while the owner and the owner was a disabled veteran, while he searched looking for the dog, and they just lied and hid the fact. And when the owner found the dog the next morning he could not be saved. And so these facts Trigger the jury verdict $100,000, but it was based on not just their negligence, but they're active concealment and a conspiracy charge. Now, if that happened in Massachusetts You know what's the recovery? Well, you know, you're not gonna get $100,000. You'd be lucky you'll get replacement value. And it was a trained dog with some special qualities. So you get a little more than I would get for my dog, which is nothing but Your You know, your redress is very limited well again that that dog is a sentence Centeon being and that dog was in agony for 12 hours. And it just shows how that not everybody feels the same way about pets. Martin. I did. I did want to ask you. Are you still a student up there? Because if you're already in practice of law No, I have one semester left, and I'm in prove being Sullivan's animal rights class right now. So one of my projects is actually assisting with Um, providing information on the You know, with regard to this to this billions. Oh, that's great Other a petition for everybody to review and sign It's on our website value our pets. Com And you guys could. I wasn't aware that value value our pets dot com.

"Maybe. This is the third reality. Where Betty disappeared and began. Does she. Maybe Betty becomes the bomb. I don't know that's that's the that's the thing about. This is the key. Yeah, and not literally that is the key to this whole story the box. Yeah, is it? Is it Dan? Is Betty the bum? What you don't know? There's so many different elements you see like maybe like red herrings. Possibly? The first time I saw this movie I saw that bump handling. That box I just thought to myself. I have such sights to show you. What the Hell is going on. With this box and get no, that's that's a rule. Apparently, the bum is a center bite, but the bone I think is a Senate bite. I and I think the bum is a prototype for a woodsmen from the return from twin peaks their return, just with the Y-, just the dirty. Filthy face yeah, all of it is is like that so I just this. That's a great great observation. Because Yeah I. Mean I can totally see Lynch being fired or just. Saying. That's the kind of character. I want yeah right, but just let this be a lesson to you kids if we learned anything from the movies yeah. Mysterious boxes don't touch them yeah. Don't touch him well. There's two things we learn. Don't go behind back in behind a restaurant in the alleyway behind the restaurant. You know what's what's behind the dumpster behind diner, the grease trap. Yeah, okay, it stinks back there. You don't want to go well especially as I grew up in a restaurant. Okay, a family restaurant. But. especially if you're having a dream. that. There's something horrible back there. There's GONNA BE! There's GonNa be so. The grease dumpster. It's GonNa. Be raccoons something bad? Don't go exactly so you know like if you have a dream about it in your frayed about it. Don't go looking for it. Just leave it alone. You know move on with. A mysterious box. That's not yours. Yeah, don't touch. It is going to change your if you're gonNA. Change a reality for the worst or at the Senate bite right. Okay, and nobody wants that. Yeah, no, it's not a good look. No so. So, yeah, you either end up as Diane Selwyn or your. Bone behind the dumpster or Or something or your Doug Bradley! Doug Bradley exactly. With puzzle boxes, yeah, exactly. Yeah, no stay the hell away. But. It's got pins on your head. Go Fix. Or Your Catherine Martell and your brother is Danaher real he. Tried to figure out if it's your birthday or ECK, hearts, birthday, or whatever and you and you know what it is. It's a key to a bomb all right. Stay away from mystery boxes pretty much. Yeah, yeah, gives you nothing but trouble so nope. Important safety tip thinks in. Art That's bad. We should try from. "See. That's the thing I because. Did we switch realities and she just happens to be asleep in this new reality when we get there. was she having the linear dream of? Of Rita and or Or was it from this point on, it could all be different is is that what happened now? It's different in. This is just what we're seeing. Yeah, no! That's the thing I don't know and I. Don't because I feel like. I feel like her waking up. into reality. Is Too, facile David Lynch. Yeah like I think there's there's more it's too straightforward. Just straightforward to linear I think there's more going on here who? Yeah. Yeah, there's more going on. Than just. PRISCILA NCIA was a dream and postal NCO's, real. Even though there are so many parallels. It's almost like. You know because what we find what we find out is. Rita is now canola. And so she is the girl. And that audition went badly not well and. All that, so it's almost like. A good version of what her life could have been a not so. Easy version of the way her life could have been so it could be that again like I said you've got. Irene showing up tiny and now I! Know All bets are off so I have no idea no idea. Yeah, it's. It's almost like you have to put everything on a big spinning wheel and like okay. This is the answer for this as you spin the wheel, and whatever comes up comes up because I. Don't think there is a clear cut answer here it. It's almost kind of like you know this this. Really Complex tapestry that fold on itself. Like a pretzel. And And It's nothing clear-cut here obviously so. so, what happens at this point now that? We've shifted. We're shifting from one reality to another reality. because. We wake Diane Selwyn wakes up presumably. Right Diane Selwyn. is now played by Dami Watts, so betty is now, Dianne. Right for the and so this is where it gets a little tricky kids. So. In in this reality, Betty is era. Excuse me Diane's. Confuse. Diane is a young Canadian woman who wanted to Jessica. "Don't get attached to anything exactly it's. Like, you know it's like it's basically like the Beatles saying nothing is real. In strawberry fields for so. Rebecca re del Rio comes out. Liftings a Spanish version of Roy orbison crying. He's one of the greatest things you've ever heard in your life ever ever. which is something that you didn't know you want it in two? You heard it. And then once you heard it. You didn't just want it. You need it. To be joyful, pray much because it's so powerful in Rebecca del Rio's. We talked about on this. You know has a three reactive range. So she kills it literally. It's one of the greatest covers the history of cover songs pretty much pretty much. It's fantastic. I never knew I wanted that, but it's not like. Orbison is some slouch when it comes to vocals either. Is a tough one to sing. Yeah, so just kills. It feels it so. She's obviously in that ballpark. And but then she s, she's seeing. She collapses in an but the audio still playing, basically revealing Oh. Hey, it's a recording. It's illusion. It's allusion you can't trust anything. He can't trust anything and Betty Rita or in the stand in the in the audience. Watching this and they start understandably crying because very powerful performance. It's IT'S I. I wouldn't be surprised if that. was a real reaction to them hearing that's on. Yeah, so so That, he reaches into purse finds a blue box. So. We have a blue key now and a blue box. So hey we got to get these two crazy objects together right. I think that would be extraordinarily bad. defined bad. Fuzzy on the adapting. Exactly yeah exactly. That sounds like a text message exchange. Like. They. Did they find the box and Diane Selwyn apartment? Well later you know what you mean when everything they disappear. I can't yeah. I can't remember no. Okay. They don't even find the box. Yeah because it shows up in the. Aunt The, aunt shows up and. It's like she hears the Thud because when the box drops. She walks in. She doesn't look like she sees the box. There's air it's like. It's like aunt. Ruth never left. Yeah, exactly. So, yeah, so but yeah, so so essentially this is. They go back to. Base apartment take out the key the hatbox. that. He suddenly disappears at this point. From this point on, it may all be different exactly. Exactly. Yeah, talking about you know. We've talked about this with the return here the episode Mardi Eighteen When? Cooper in Diane how to cross that threshold? So. So very similar theme there exactly. Gird up surveying, there. The box. They put the key. In. Of course, the box seems to swallow. The bedroom drops to the floor. We talked about that now. It's dark now. It's dark. And then Diane someone's apartment we cut to that in the cowboy shows up telling you. It's time to wake up. so presumably. It's hard telling, but presumably this was a dream. Diane Sell Dream. Well that's. Because of him telling her to wake up, but the question is well. Maybe it's a dream within a dream..

Cowboys Toby which do in somebody who's frozen, my assets and stay in a crappy hotel exactly and I can't go back to my house because the pool guys there with its pool. Guys there and frankly, there's just pick paint everywhere. It's a mess and I don't want to clean it up. It's damned if I ended up. So, but betty panics a little bit. She's like. Something you know after that look. She panics and she's like well. I need to go back because hey. I need to keep this date with Rita that we were gonNA. Go check out Diane Selwyn place I had. I promised a friend. I'd help her I have to go I'm sorry I have to go. Yeah, so so she ends up back and they go. Betty Rita go to the park number twelve. which weird about that though is, it's almost it's almost like betty can sometimes smell a bad scene. But not enough. No, no, you know. She should be able to. I I feel like she should have been able to smell her way out of Danielle apartment. Cheryl yeah, exactly because you know. Hey, there's a corpse in there and sure it didn't smell very good. You think you. Would have been noticeable before they went inside and even just the whole when they get there and there's. Two guys case in joint and yeah, exactly yeah I think she's just caught up in the mystery of Rita I mean. Rita is serious very. You know very sweet and very beautiful, but very mysterious, and there is an air of danger around her that I. Think Intrigues, Betty. It's kind of like what happens with Comic Lachlan's character Jeffrey Beaumont and Blue Velvet. Exactly what happens? This dangerous, but this woman is mysterious. She needs my help. She's beautiful. I've got I've got to figure this out I. figure out what the Hell is going on here. Yeah, you're right. I didn't think about that. That is exactly the same kind of thing, yeah? So. So, he ended up apparently. Of Women Answers, but it's not Diane Selwyn. It's a neighbor. Who tells them women all? Hey! I, switched apartments with Diane. She's number seventeen. When you said Frank I saw Harry in my head. That's really weird. Right probably listening because normally when you say sheriff. Harry S Truman. That's probably why. Even to like get into is being mistaken for Diane Warren. In many a photo, people love to post photos of Glenn Maxwell with powerful figures. Some of them are just. Diana Warren with powerful figures and she. has written songs for a lot of powerful figures, but this is literally like when she said that Oliver Songs from SARS born. We're good when we were like Diana. We know they're not good, Diane. No, you wrote them not to be good. She's like no, they're fucking amazing. All my songs are really Diane. You're a troll and now. She's out here. Responding to the iconic video of Mariah Carey, pushing her out of the way which we all know is Diane Warren. And she saying no, it's not me. It's not me. It's not me, and then she's also responding to all these photos where people are saying like Goulaine Lane. The non me, that's not me. or She's saying that is me in the case of people accusing her of being Glenn Maxwell. They really don't look like they just both have like I would call the Kris. Chance that you've never seen a picture of Diane Warren like. What Diane. Warren looks like that's not likely I. Follow her all central. Yeah but. You are a specialized case and I'm sure. A lot of our listeners are specialized cases, but that's but I will say that. Sort of intense doctor being like this one specialize case as I'm being a into some creepy hospital this one. He's a specialized case. Well, this is like in my game that I play my switch where I own a hospital and they keep I keep people keep having diseases, and they're like lightheadedness, and it's like their head is open. You have to like comet. This is like the Diane Warren specialized case and I need to build. Build a special room in which I research a machine to cure you of your specialized case, but specifically. Diane has clowns on herself over this video in the past, so like to anyone saying she doesn't even realize it. That's video of her. She knows she's bucking with you. Because when this video I went viral, she responded to it by saying only room for one diva. Ha, ha tongue out tongue out thumbs up music music heart. Because they've worked together many many times. You have to assume that video. Is Mariah joking around with her like Beowulf? Diane will be which she other. Many many many many. Mariah picks her up and puts her aside. It's like a IT'S A. Stress like. And shove out of the way Diane. Selwyn very clearly a pain in the ASS. Being friends with Diane must be a nightmare. A weird thing that I noticed throughout the twenty twenty Oscar season is that. None other than Renee Zellweger became what looked like really good friends with Diane through the process and I was like that makes so much sense to people that are probably really hard to sort of figure out and get along with. And I I'm glad that they found each other, because they would always be at events together like the two of them who could probably talk to anyone in the room because they have a relationship with anyone? But they chose each other I was like wow, that's like of beautiful. These two weirdos found each other I. mean you know Diane? Warren loves being an insider. She's like she loves what she does. She loves like she loves hobnobbing with with the Mariah Carey's of the world. Who are her close friends? And she is not Geeze Lane Maxwell. She's not so do not. Mistake her for that also it's pronounced lane right. I don't care how it's. fucking do not give a shit how her name is pronounced. I don't call an an tell us about Gillan I could give a fuck with that woman's name is pronounced. Sorry. Sorry, Sorry Diane Warren however. WHO WERE THEM DIE? Board is I, think them. Even, though nobody. Think our song. Yeah I think she's also. She's definitely a who who we behavior at the mercury video alone is enough to make you a WHO forever. I mean Don Woman Mariah. Carey picks up the moves out of the way on the red carpet. Both I guess she's a WHO, because people keep mistaking her for every single woman with short dark hair. So who am I to say to them? I think that speaks for itself. I mean right I mean. Everyone's like this woman so well. Who is this woman? She's Oh. Yeah, we talked about her on the in the lead up to these Oscars because she almost had her win got I'm looking at this chart again? Nominated nominated, nominated nominated, nominated, nominated, nominated, nominated nominated nominated nominated. Can you name even though it's very recent history? I will end this conversation. We spent probably. I don't think you're able to end this conversation. Yeah, can you name either the movie? Or the song for which she was nominated for an Oscar this year. Yes. Yes. Name one of them. It was the Chrissy mets movie. What was the movie called? That's the question, or what was a song called the fact that I remember that. It was a Chrissy mets movie. Then that should be enough. He's interesting on David Lindsay. The script was later rewritten and expanded when Lynch decide the transform it into a feature film, the scrubbing the transition from an open ended Paul to a feature film with a resolution of sorts. Lynch said one night, I sat down the ideas came in. And it was a most beautiful experience. Everything was seen from a different angle. Now, looking back at the film always wanted to this way. He just took this strange beginning to cause it to be what it is. Most of the new scenes were filmed in October two thousand funded with seven million from French production company. Studiocanal I think a lot of people misunderstanding don't like the last half now which I did. Like a couple of times I saw. But then when I started reading deeper into it is actually this is where the true genius is. Maybe that's where I'm not yet. Yes. Well, yeah. Referring to when the dock store after the books. Yeah. Jeans. Fascinating stuff. Ain't you the cinematographer the paces Paige Deming? Yeah. Yes. I would have you got for us on him on a great career. The scream films two three and four of scream films. Shut twin peak season three is what with Lynch since. Mojo drive a belief that was the first film together. Yeah. Yes. That's right. Yeah. He's if he followed him on Instagram, he gets pretty salty. Sometimes he's got a lot of bad things to say about what he says three the the pace of production Scifo said he couldn't do what he wants to do and say he's made a snide remarks about the fact that you know, he wasn't allowed to probably set up the lights that he wanted to get the shot that he wanted to Lynch was just like one take this great moving on. He's like bought like the. Yeah. But in this case in one hundred he got what he wanted to every time. I think it's fantastic. I really love the the outdoor light is never harsh like if you actually should outside in LA can be quite brutal. Sometimes hardly. But here it's quite soft list that scene where around the Spanish apartments, very like magic Allison of Wilma, Terrence Malick sort of. This is set and I looked at comes through when Deming takes he's films Lynch's films. They just steadily. They seem to have a similar look to them. I'm sure that a lot of Lynch he controls everything. But yeah, I just love the look of the films and from that just beautiful looking films and just the the shot on film. Really? You know, the shadow is in the the black pulls a black everywhere. Just that really it lifts his films into a different kind of stratosphere and Olmo tragic when he then went to, you know, digital video nineties handy Cam for free land, pirate and always projects. I just kind of these films in particular, he's beautiful films. Okay. In regards to the cast. He guys we've got three main characters like an absolute, but lead supporting characters in this film. So yeah, we've got Betty Elms. Dash Diane Selwyn played by Australia's own army. What's it's right. A few strains. All of this. We'll get into a fear then girl on a date with Tom Cruise was.
