"He said that specific thing about me that i was director proof and i thought well then i arrived because that's awesome but that's not what you want. You wanted to director proof. But but i imagine you want the director to see you and to be able to find a way to help journey together. We what we want to journey together. Absolutely i want i want to hold best ones of those look like for you. So is that adrian. Line thing what you want someone just make you over and over again without really. I mean you get nominated. You got nominated though not not. It's not that he got nominated but well. Yeah well i. I don't know i mean i. I felt there's a trust. i need wind in my sails. I need. I need the truck. That's that's when i feel it. I mean audrey. Wells gave me that god rest or soul. She's with me forever in my heart from under the tuscan sun empowered me. I mean i had done Must love dogs with with with john back and that was a great experience to attempt comedy. I'd never attempts comedy meaning. It was overtly intentional of not a john that i had that i had really been considered for before And it was very uncomfortable and hard because it's a very different kettle of fish for actors. And i won't go too far down that just we don't have all the time in the world but you know so so to do under the tuscan sun. She empowered me. She believes in me she. There was something about her that put wind in my sails. And you know i. I don't know if that's true for all actors that most actors i know they do. Really well being encouraged back to that word you know The love encouraged in a way that you believe though right because you got you. Have you have a you. So do it again. And that's great and allow yourself to be you know unattractive or allow yourself to be more constrained or whatever the adjective is that the director's going to kids but the manner in which gives. That's just me now. Other people distrust thought they feel manipulated. Like oh i know. You're just saying that to massage my ego to get me to. But who knows. It's like a marriage you get married at. Hello with director actor on a set right. You're gonna have this marriage and it's gonna make baby and out it's gonna come in the whole world's gonna see it judge it hopefully and The only industry. I know that's dependent on popularity in nearly and highly dependent. Only right and so that moment yes and so that moment entertainment periods. Yeah just that moment of connection is so crucial and do you now so now you will go over to a director and you will. You will say that stuff i. It's funny i was talking to griffin don the other day we had an outbreak two. We're right before it got to call. That's awesome right before it got too cold. But he was talking about being an actor we met we had dinner outside somewhere and and and he was describing his biggest fear as an actor is when the director comes up you with that big fake smile and it says like great. It's just great and it freaks them out because he's like i just want to know so you you want a genuinely you diane. When a genuinely feel that they understand what you're trying and that they know you can get there with the director yeah. I don't feel that that uncomfortable manipulative thing and you know disapproval good too. I i don't mind being shamed into a good performance. Absolutely i mean. I i remember for george roy hill on a little romance with large bolivia. My god i mean at a certain point. I had to cry and i was terrified. That wouldn't be able to and that terror made it possible for me to cry. Well i'll tell you. Thirteen defect just getting to george roy hill in a livia at the end of this makes me feel like i am such a bad interviewer. But we'll we'll have to do a part to someday. Diana mentioned one thing. I did yet be directed by griffin done. That did happen to me so it was great. He was he was a love bug you know he was very excited to be there. And in that role of director on set. And you know blessaun hilton forever and crew stewart but lee road. It was it was in chris evans. I mean it's a great half so i love griffin griffin is the most interesting. He's like one of the most fascinating people in the world. Just a beautiful guy now. He covers a lot of territory but ground. Lsu unless you have your day or evening where whoever whatever time this has seen played for all of y'all know diane lane. I have to say thank you. You're listen as i say because we're the same age. I what i say about tom cruise to when i got spent time with him. It's like i've been watching you for my whole life and watching you grow up as i've grown up. Do you know what i mean. And you feel a real deep connection with people who've been able to like you've been doing what you've been doing for so long. And it's such a high level vet. It's hit various touchstones in my life. Like i'm not surprised that in one thousand nine hundred nine. When i walk on the moon i was so blown away by it because i was a young parent and you were you. Were doing this stuff at the same time and sort of acting out the lives. We were living and with such honesty and ferocious honesty. Really that that. It's just an honor to get to to talk to you. And i hope we get to work together sometime and and just thanks for coming on the podcast. Thank you brian. Who's been. It's been really a lot of. And i'm grateful. "Hey this is the moment brian koppelman. Thanks for listening our guest today. I'm so psyched for this. It's the great diane lane. One of the great actors really of our time and someone. I've been watching diane. You and i are almost the same age. We're like a year apart. And so as long as i've been watching movies because you started so young i've been watching you and when i was a kid. My favorite book was the outsiders. Of course one of the great throws my life was se. Tinton following me on twitter. I was like. How is that possible. That i know as he had. And so you've mattered to me and to everyone in our in our whole age group and beyond for such a long time and if anyone doesn't immediately no i mean some of the movies you started the outside that amazing trinity of the outsiders rumble fish and then streets fire and then lonesome dove miniseries. Which i have to ask you about which is one of the greatest not that many people know lonesome dove anymore young people but it is one of the most incredible sort of tv events. Ever and then movies like walk on the moon. Which i'll tell you. I saw that in a screening and it just blew. My mind. wrecked me that movie unfaithful under the tuscan sun and this incredibly powerful new movie called. Let them go among many many many other things. So i've so much. I wanna talk to you about diane lane. Thanks for being here. Thank you for having me so nice to be with you. I love your show. I love how you conduct your show. I call it a show. I hope that's okay hot cat and no. I'm psyched to be here. I i imagine you have a very eclectic listening Body of people. And i love that because It's just the diversity you know you bring us. It's true some people. There are people who listen to podcast. Who don't know who've never watched my my tv series. You know what i mean and there are people who listen because of the guests and listen because of you and you don't do that. Many of these interviews. I know a lot of people know you're my first brian. It's amazing that is just awesome and thank you for for doing it. I wanna i wanna start in place. Though where we talk about kraft and then we'll get into some biography thing because in watching the new movie. I noticed something that i think i'd noticed before but i was watching it and your performance really closely and i have been thinking about posture. The way your characters carry themselves and it seems to me. This is a key to how you build the characters. Meaning this woman in let him go has a certain kind of locked in posture. The way if she were going to bend over to put something in the kitchen sink she would do it. In a way that's quite different from st- many of the other characters that you've played and i'm wondering if that happens to you as you would have it the characters. Have you gotten to a place where you let that stuff happened or is it conscious as you start thinking about the character you're going to play. Oh wow i love your questions. Okay so thank you. That's a compliment as disguised. If the question and i appreciate it I will say. I guess that's true. I hadn't thought of it myself. But truth be told the internal world of an actor. I you're looking for your your portal in and and and abiding within the character and how how do you get there. And and there are many access points at different times Sometimes it's even a a team sport and it's a group vibe that everybody gets in you know when you're clicking but for for margaret blackledge in let him go You know. I have this thing where i breathe the character i. There's maybe come from training with the theater. A little bit by accident with the pentameter of shakespeare or something you have to know when to inhale different people do it at different points and and and as you know if you hear somebody else say the same sentence It'll it'll be completely different thing. And and aspire retire perspire all. It's about breathing. And as you know. I know you practice of you know. Meditation and breathing is an access point to. I mean it's it's the word for spirit in latin. I believe and and so to get the spirit of the character. I have to lend my Pulmonary system you know. Just who and i once. I took a beta blocker for a heart exam which was completely normal to to do at that point in my life and i thought oh my god i could never work it in my craft if i was on a beta blocker because i need to feel the impact of adrenaline in my body to know if i'm passing a lie detector test with myself in the moment which is the name of your show which i love for for the character. So yeah there you go. No that's brilliant. What you just said about the beta blocker. I got that same. Sixty four slice cat scan of the heart thing. When i turned whatever age fifty and i noticed. Also what happens to you and it is fascinating. And i could see how it would interfere. And so when you're thinking about though the way a character would breed or maybe it's not thinking about it. Is it just as you because the thing about this character is an it goes to the posture. She has is. There's all this.

"Done by like 100 groups, The Rolling Stones. You too. This is the Sundays and this is the actual version They played in the movie fear when Marky Mark was on the roller coaster. With Reese Witherspoon, Look at you. You're smiling When you remember this scene, don't you eyes rolling behind the head talking about that quickly before I get to Miranda Divine. I'm a huge fan of Diane Lane. I don't know why. I think she's a beautiful actress. Beautiful. She made this movie 18 years ago called Unfaithful. But she cheated on which your gear and Garance of killing the boyfriend, Olivier Martinez. It's a whole big mess, but I thought you look great in that anyway, You're not going to see no movies. Now because nobody was typing anything for the longest time because the cove it But I did watch a brand new movie starring the upper mention Lovely Diane Lane and Kevin Cashner a couple days ago. You can buy it. On Netflix, I guess And it's called. Let him go. And it's really, really good. So if you want to see something new, and you're Diane Lane, faint fan like I am, maybe, like Kevin Caution her and if you have let him go if you haven't canceled your Netflix subscription, yet people doing that. Yes. Oh, God. I couldn't live without it. Especially now. I can't wait to cancel mine my way. Haven't gotten around to it. Why? What happened is I hate them. What they don't know. They're just the propaganda that they spew the I don't even know this stuff like I want show, So I know the Obama's You too much. No, no, no, no, no. The whole Central Park five things with very well. I can't even do one apron, baby, You asked me What's one example? That's when I could just dredge up right now. But there are many, many other except that David Letterman show. It's not even on anymore. The only thing I like about Netflix all the comedy special. Are you crazy? I love those two. But I love Netflix and go watch That movie is called. Let him Go with Diane Lane and In cash? No. Now, one thing you and I do agree on. We just talked about it. It's our next guest is the best columnist in the country. You write for the New York Post. We love her. Miranda Divine. Good morning, Miranda. How are you, sweetie? Good morning. Birdie. Thank you so much. You always make me feel very good. Well, you do the see something very nice text to you Love the show. You listen to our podcast every day and I will tell you this. I will tell you this. Bernie and I are both on record. In fact, just moments ago saying that you are the better of the two. You compared to Michael Goodwin. And I want you to know I want you to know Michael Goodwin does not come on the show anymore. How about that? I love Michael Goodwin. Here. Sorry. Fantastic. So, uh, doesn't he know we love them to wear both You guys, It's amazing how many good writers The New York Post, actually, has you two guys being the best, But there's a bunch of your folks. Yes. So your column today talks about CNN liberal apologist caught burying the post hunter Biden expose apiece. Miranda that you actually broke the news to you. You broke this weeks and weeks ago. And after the O'Keefe tapes surfaced yesterday. Now we've got a point Do which, of course, is your piece on hunter? By no surprises is something Jeff Zucker has done but you do expose The hypocrisy of CNN and Jeff Zucker today. Yes. Well, look, we knew that they buried it because they just never ran anything that he died. Do you know Ms NBC in New York Times Washington Post They all just issued a fatwa on DATs what you imagine, but actually here, just sucker and his other top honchos talk in this leaked audio from their nine AM daily news conference. That project very test is God. Actually, he even say the words and just kind of lie about the story. And so it's not significant because we already know that Joe Biden being pronounced innocent by Senate hearing and this is just old stuff dredged up before that President Trump got, you know, impeached other That's not true. The whole point of the story. If they'd read it, which they did, obviously was that this was new information, tying Joe Biden to Hunter Biden. And if the rest of the family's influence peddling operation overseas and It's fresh information and later came 20 bubble Lynskey, who actually had first person evidence, plus all the kicks and e mails on his firing, and you add that to the hunter Biden stuff, and then you add that to the Senate hearing, all of it, Tubbs tells with each other and you know the Senate investigation with Grassley and Johnson, and they had uncovered a large of information, including, you know millions of dollars paid from The ex wife of the Moscow mayor, You know Chinese money? There's a new supplement to that showing $6 million of Chinese money going to one of Hunter Biden Business Associates. So you know there's so much evidence there. There it is. Disgraceful that it has been ignored by mainstream media. Everybody except us and then you know some conservative websites and obviously Fox news as well. And you know, they say, you guys cover it really well, But in terms of those kind of establishment operations, especially CNN, they signal to the rest of The media. Oh, it's okay to ignore this story. Exactly. Right. Marina Divine Listen. This election was stolen from President Trump. And it began before Election Day way before Election Day with Big Tech and the media running interference for the very, very corrupt Joe Biden. As a matter of fact, somebody didn't exit poll off Biden voters, people who voted for Biden. Up to 40 like 40% of the those people claimed they never heard about the laptop from hell and had they heard about it. They would have voted otherwise.

Here's when new movies will air

"A film with two pretty big stars in it. Yes. Let him go with Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. You know, Kitty with the movie awards season, right around the corner. I sure hope that let him go becomes at least part of the awards conversation. Because it really is that good. Just based on the dynamic performances from Leeds stars Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, but Lesley Manville and Jeffrey Donovan shine to really the entire cast lights up this family revenge thriller that finds Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. Squaring off against the lawless family known as the wee Boys who live off the grid in the Dakotas and the three brothers were ruled by their vindictive mother, Lesley Manville, and one of the guys Will. Britain is married to their daughter in law and is abusing her and their grandson. Well, when Lane and Costner try to rescue them, But we boys start threatening them, and that gets Lane and Costner really fired up. You know, it's such a simple but dramatic story and just so very well done. And here's the other thing. Kitty. Aside from tenant, and maybe Russell Kroll's movie unhinge its the biggest movie opening directly in theaters you don't because most everything has been streaming and had limited release, And so it'll be interesting to see how big a draw Diane Lane and Kevin Costner are for theaters this weekend and beyond. But I'll tell you, you can't go wrong with this good, old fashioned Western tinged thriller. So I'm given. Let him go. Four out of four stars. Excellent. Okay. Wow. High ratings. And then what? We got a couple of two or three other ones. Maybe you could just go over. There was real quickly for a teen coming of age drama called 18 to party, and it's set in 1984 stars. Tanner Flood for Moonrise Kingdom in the Leiva Clark of TV's draft bill. I like that. I'm giving you three out of four stars and another revenge thriller called True to The Game, too. With Erica Peoples and Vivica Fox and Faith Evans. I'm giving it 3.5 out of four stars really like that one. And then there's a Swedish psychological horror film called Koko de Coco Dog, and It's just weird, but I couldn't turn away from it. Not a big recommendation. I didn't love it didn't hate it. So I'm giving it to out of four stars. But you

"A trainer partying like it's nineteen ninety one eight bolt she's got a two and a half lake lead dawn the destroyer next toward the inside what over with Mark Holiday from blue devils been a client of mine for years and we just try to make a game plan where we figured we'd cut it back and trying to make her a champion in the sprint division just seemed like chasing midnight these you might be a tough ordeal for her we had always Kinda were skeptical about how far she wanted to go even though she had won the Royal Delta ongoing amount sixteenth earl the year before last when she was second in the gopher one going mile just seemed like a good plan to just regroup she got a little light after the midnight race to wait for the Ballerina and try to win that game one which turned out great and then it's actually not ten weeks I was wrestling with that but I decided to go ahead and run the gallant bloom on September twenty second I got the I put she also won so now I got the two races back since the Phipps and I'm sitting ready to go five and a half weeks into the British top actually speaking of midnight zoo you know we mentioned in our open that your family has a history of running a really good horse against a potential legend for speaking about your grandfather Pancho Martin who had oh really good three year old named Sham back nineteen seventy-three but that was not the right year to have a really good three-year-old how much did that enter your mind when you decided to shorten up come down instead of knocking heads with midnight bees again I never really think about things in the past I mean I know my grandfather was a great trainer and that was a great horse and he ran against probably one of the greatest sources that ever lived but I just kind of try to do my own thing just worry about my horse and we're just trying to make the best game plan to give her a chance of success and to win a grade one and we just thought that Mitt I tease you and a late and some of the older fillies like a really strong division not that the sprint division having to run against co Pepsi the test and some other great vilis it's not it's not going to be easy but we just all got together and we just talked about cutting her back you know she had been brilliant in the distaff going seventy eight just started give us a chance to make regret one winter which has been always the goal 'cause we always believed in our hearts that she had that kind of brilliant ability in that kind of talent and they just that's just the way just turned out for us the time you know we were we were always debating you know what her best distances and this race was great and up to a mile it seemed like up to a one turn would be her game really oh by the way your grandfather portrayed as something of a foolish villain in the movie secretariat with Diane Lane and John Malkovich I know 'cause I was there for some of the filming of the scenes it didn't mention in the movie that he led the trainer standings in New York for ten straight years and entered the hall of fame in Nineteen eighty-one what did you think of his portrayal by Nestor Serrano I thought it was an interesting movie to say the least I brought him to see it and obviously he wasn't too pleased wasn't an accurate portrayal anybody that knows my grandfather knows that he was a gentleman and a lot of those things never happened with him screaming anybody I think he said he met Mrs Tweedy used to call her by her maiden name the day of the Derby she said hi Mr Martin can I say hi to sham and wish you luck inch and he took her over to t- his horse and exchange pleasantries and they wished each other luck and that was about the extent of his interaction with petty Chinnery so he thought it was quite amusing but like I explained to him it's Disney and somebody has to be the villain and they chose you and he said to me you know he was about eighty six years old and he said is there anything I can do I said well if you still have about twenty unless you could sue Disney but other than that just sit back and enjoy the movie so I don't think he really enjoyed the movie too much but it is what it is he had a great horse and if it wasn't for secretary how people theorize you know he broke the record in defeat and the Derby and preakness and maybe could be the triple crown winner he got hurt chasing him in the Belmont and then he still was syndicated for two and a half million in dollars which wasn't too shabby back in nineteen seventy three was a great horse in a great story and you know it's like having you know going up against Michael Jordan and a championship game and scoring eighty and Jordan's going one hundred and just coming up a little short trainer Carlos Martin joining us here on in the gate will send out come dancing in the Breeders Cup Filly Mayor Sprint you obviously come from a family of six zestful trainers including your Dad Jose who trained groovy I mean this is a business built on pedigrees so because of that I would think clients would have come flocking so you what made it takes so long for you to get back to this top level of competition I'm not sure I think we had a little rough patch with Mr Laser was my main client and backwards my dad got sick in two thousand six I had the the cancer Starting two thousand and two and then I unfortunately lost him in two thousand six we always had a close working relationship with Mr Lewis on and I kinda got comfortable in the state of being kind of a private trainer for him until he passed away about eight years ago and you know people sometimes they see you with one outfit and you know there was a lot if I think maybe just thought that was just him and me I was beholden to him and a lot of ways you know he was like a mentor to me with my father my grandfather of course and I think that kind of turns people off you know I had kind of a private job with him until he passed in two thousand eleven pretty much you know so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it I know when when he passed away it was quite an awakening to be a public trainer again and start almost from scratch about seven years ago and I'm so grateful that Mark Blue Devil and a couple of other clients like Matt Scherer on Mr and Mrs Collins a really good team now some really great people that have passion for the sport and really take the Horse I they're kind of the owners I have now say a little bit of a throwback because they really art patient with me as far as they want the best for the horse and I know there's a lot of pressure to do things right now especially when you spend a lot of money for but I'm very fortunate and blessed able to get back on our feet we went down from forty horses when Mr Lizard passed away in two thousand eleven to probably about five horses so we've called our way back and you know about the opportunity to win it Breeders Cup would be really really sensational way to finish the year and oblique grew almost to two million earnings for this year with a relatively small stable of twenty five sources I think he's a good accomplishment so I'm happy where I'm
