"Don't be getting your granny panties all in a bunch. We got rick till up in here. Thank you for that. And welcome back to the sheriff to the coast to coast and around the world on american forces radio network We also have been here. Can't ramsey world war two historians here to talk about a new special exhibition. Call the walt disney studios and world war two over at the walt disney family museum. And the presidio. This exhibition just opened a couple of days ago. And it's gonna be reopening in the main galleries next month as well. Welcome to the show can't i. can you give us a little background on yourself. Please sure i'm basically as you said. World war two historian and former disney employee. I was a keelboat skipper. Disneyworld my college days and spent Probably about the last twenty five thirty years working with real world. War two veterans and It's my good fortune to basically come up with an idea and work with the disney company. And the walt disney family museum to recognize everything that the the studio did As far as war contributions during the war. So that's kind of a summary about me and It also for me. It's a very special occasion. Because the the disney company during world war two did design to insignias for a family member that was killed during the war so those are just interesting things to know about me and while very patriotic guy from what i understand ambulance driver and world war one that is correct and he faked his age and went up world. War one is an ambulance driver super patriotic. But then obviously during the war The company of the studios devoted ninety percent of their production to the war effort. Well the thing about the war and in today's world there's no such thing as as nuance there's no such thing is at the time. This is how people behaved or thought or was just everything is judged now by twenty twenty one standards which will probably change next year as well. So that's why a lot when people see art or propaganda from world war two. They they need to keep in mind what was going on at the time and it was a world war and it can't be judged in the sort of the the the mindset of what's popular on twitter today and i'm getting that no that's that's absolutely true and you go through the exhibition. You have to keep that in mind. Some of the things are maybe not politically correct today. But you do have to put yourself in that time period and understand that The united states did not know what they were going to win the war. We could have lost that. Were at the beginning. You know we did not perform very well for the first couple of years so you're absolutely correct and Propaganda you know. it's something it's a tool that walt disney didn't necessarily want to use but it it did Contribute to the war effort and it was. It was necessary so for people who go to the museum. What things are in store to view the that. That's a great question. As far as the general topics include the following We'll be looking at the friendly. Us army invasion the studio. The day after pearl harbor was bombed another topic. Is the disney artists that joined the fight Final bend Japanese american disney artists that were sent to internment camps as well as how the war presented new opportunities for disney woman to advance into high level. Jobs also production of over two hundred training films. Most people don't know that. Walt made that many films and how what became a goodwill ambassador related to the inter-american affairs. Also the creation of over twelve hundred insignia designs which are still popular today. The story of how role dolls gremlin stray almost became a feature film and disney's broad involvement in all forms of print media and finally the the coverage of nine werner came at shorts as well as eleven propaganda films. Those are just the the frigate areas you'll see as you go through the diane disney miller exhibition hall just as an aside. You mentioned role doll and one of the great creative minds ever james and the giant peach a he. Correct me if i'm wrong. He flew spitfires battle of britain right. Yeah i think he flew hurricanes and spitfires okay and And he's like six foot six and you know he. He also he charlie and the chocolate factory and all those other things mostly children's books but the funny thing is most people don't realize the the screenplay for You only live twice. Which is james spots on the sean connery. So he he was involved in a lot of things. A couple more questions here. For can't ramsey the disney family museum. You mentioned You know. Artwork and i i can think of so many times where you'll see. Maybe than does our donna flying fortress and there'll be a a donald duck and you know what was a i mean. How much did that do you think carried over to our troops. It was just a little slice of home to have a a disney character It was it was and it could either be frequently. They use the insignia that was designed for their unit their bomb squad earner bomb group. And they've paint that on the side of the plane or as you said they would choose different disney characters and put those on the side of the plane and those are served to basically it was camaraderie and You know since of pride. And i hosted many many world war two reunions as i said at the museum apply here in seattle a trustee and the biggest thing that they take away with them so proud of was there the designs that disney came up with so it was definitely a morale booster and it did make them feel like they were at home and and occasionally have been made him laugh too which is which is great during war as a guy who has a history major You know a buff myself. I've had the opportunity to some great battle sites and museums in europe and other places over the years for you as a world war two guy what does maybe one battlefield or or you know place that you'd like to go and visit that you haven't yet seen oh boy You know. I think this is a different way to look at it but for me. I you mentioned i can go to battlefields. Go airfields Basis around the world whatnot as far as the history of world war. Two the one thing that i would love to see and i can't do that. Is the air battles that took place during the war. There's no record of that there. You can't go up in the sky and look somewhere and see you know where something happened it. You know it's gone. It's gone in an instant. My uncle was a p thirty eight pilot in the war and he was stationed in the pacific as well as the european theater of operations and unfortunately he was killed one month before the war ended. But i would love to see Just some of the planes from his old photo squadron The thirty third p. r. s. I would love to see them. Fly does pay thirty eight. Those were i mean. I hate to say they were. They called deathtraps because they had the dual fuselage. They're easy.

"Or you can hit the link in our show notes. Okay so we're back. Are you guys ready? All right the first one is an easy one. It's just named the Disney parks that you have visited so Disneyland. The bets where we've closest to so we go there all the time and then we've each gone to Disneyworld and just done the four main parks epcot animal kingdom magic kingdom and Hollywood studios. Not The waterpark. So so all of those individual parks which one is your favorite and why Disneyland is I think I think it's both of our favorites in. Yes it is. Yeah yeah that's the original. It's the one we know best. I think Walt said I saw this quote actually. Recently he said Disneyland is the Star and everything else is in the supporting role. And that's how we feel about Disneyland. It we went to Disneyworld and came back to Disneyland a couple months. After the first time we went to Disneyworld and we love Disneyworld but Disneyland just has a home field to it for us. It makes sense. I can agree with that. I think we've been saying recently that if we're going on a trip we prefer Disneyworld but if there's one day in one park it's Disneyland. Yeah that's a nice way of looking at. I think you've switched over. Dca recently Catherine I really deliver DC. We've only been once but it was amazing. Really only been one time. It's it's picked up when it first started. It was a little bit. You know. I think the direction they were going with. Dca was a bit off. But they've I think found a groove and going forward it looks it. Looks like it's coming around and I really enjoy that park myself now. There needs to be a case study done on people who went to Hollywood studios in the ninety s and then went to da now. Because I think that's what hit home for us so much because it felt like studios old school so next would be your Disney bucket list trip. When don't you why don't you go Thomas on this okay this is? This is a fun question. Actually being in California and Having been a volunteer at the museum I would start my trip at the museum. Offer a day or whatever and then travel to stay somewhere near La in that next day Goto the. What is it The Carol Would Barn in Griffith Park. It's got Walt Disney's old barn. Where he he had a miniature trains and was probably the inspiration for for Disneyland in large part. And then after that I would want to have a studios tour Walt Disney studios tour in. I would want that to include the archives in Golden State that Disneyland Hotel for. I don't know three two three six days solid. I think for me I WOULD WANNA do. I've recently thought about the idea of doing a split. Stay at Disneyworld. Actually and that would be staying know at two different hotels on the same trip. So I'd WanNa stay two weeks and I've in one week. I WOULD WANNA stay at the polly next week. I WanNa stay at animal kingdom lodge and then each one of those one day in each of those weeks. I'd want to dedicate one day just to sort of resort hop the different resorts Because that's one thing about Disney world that I really enjoys that they they have a bunch of different resorts and you can just go to them and experience the different things they have there and they're they're not. They're not quite like the parks but their inexperience of themselves. Yeah those are great choices. I'm remiss that we didn't talk about it earlier when you mentioned it. Thomas but the Walt Disney Family Museum is very very high on our bucket list. Oh yeah have not had the chance together yet. But for our listeners. Can you just give a brief overview of what it offers and we talked to our friend Keith? Gluck I don't even know what episode number that was. But he talked about it quite a bit but I think so. Many people love it and it's got so much great history there. Yeah so this is. It's called The Walt Disney Family Museum. And it focused focuses on walt the person and so it was created by an empire. She spearheaded the creation of the museum. Waltz daughter Diane Disney Miller and she passed in two thousand thirteen. I think but the family was heavily involved in remains involved in the museum to some degree these days. Although Ron Miller Waltz son-in-law did pass away I think last year but it's a great museum where you if you're going to go in it. Sounds like you want to take several hours of your time. If not the entire what eight hours it's open. Just take your time and go through it because there's so much information to really take in admire in on top of that even though it's closed right now for the the virus pandemic the when it when it's open. There's a secondary exhibition away from the main galleries. And I think the one coming up as a World War. Two exhibition the the one we just had was Mickey Mouse Exhibition in. It's really incredible if you love history and there's great great stuff about the parks to in. I think that's probably most people's favourite part of the museum I am. I know I would love that. I feel like we when we go to museums. Definitely not the type to read everything. That is the one museum where we would like. You said have to actually take the time to read everything and you don't have to read everything either. Because there's a lot of video elements that you can watch things to read words the whole time and it's really great in that way Good you don't like reading my goodness struggle rating right so the next question would be. What is your favorite Disney resort? And it doesn't necessarily have to be when the state at I think for me you know. We went to Ohana the last time we went to Disneyworld and I just really think the Polynesian is great. I mean we have not stayed there but the Polynesian is a really that aesthetic really speaks to me at least in. We had a great time just before reservation walking around that hotel and we we actually right after a reservation took the boat over to metric kingdom and I have man. I'd love to do that. I would just love to stay there and be able to do that and my favorite would be the Disneyland Hotel but I think I don't know I love history and Disney. History is especially interesting to me and that it just feels like. I'm stepping back in time a little bit because there's a lot of history in the name. The Disneyland Hotel but also those those towers is so to me. That would that's my answer. It's pretty simple. I'm sad we didn't even walk into the lobby of the Disneyland Hotel when we were there. Great we'll probably just thinking we wanted to get through. All the bad check lines to go to. The park only had three days. Yeah 'cause we stayed at Paradise Pier so it was like you have to take a left to go. The Disneyland Hotel. We always took right. Well my my girlfriend and I actually went down to Disneyland a few months ago and we we drove down. I've we left midnight or shortly before because we only had a couple of days to go and we knew we weren't going to be able to go for a while and little little. Did we know how true that was but we we were able to go for like three months which is a long time for us and so we drove down there at midnight. Got There at six. And they hadn't quite open security yet so we went and sat in the Disneyland Hotel Lobby and they have little teacup chairs in there. That are shaped like you know the cuts from fantasy land and we fell asleep for like thirty minutes. It was great. It would be a good napping spot for sure next one would be if you could only fast past one ride for the rest of your life. Which one would it be. This is interesting because it's not. It's not exactly what your favorite ride is because for me. My favorite ride is is splash mountain. But the way I go on that right. I don't need to fast passing usually go in the morning or at night which nobody wants to write it then so it's not really that it's for me it would be mission. Breakout the Guardians of the galaxy. Ride that we have at Disneyland California adventure and the reason for that is i. I don't know if I've ever written that ride. Or at least not recent years without a fast pass and then the other aspect of it is during Halloween Time. They do monsters after dark which is a basically a ride overlay for Halloween with different soundtrack of different visual. And you have to have a fast pass for that You know the second at that. Those become available during the day when they're available in October. I did on Max pass immediately. Make that make that switch or make that That's election so I think that's the fast pass the most and the one that I need to ride every trip and I played with that idea as well but I only I'd written down like with a question mark monsters after dark thinking that was the only available option When thinking about these kinds of questions but I might choose. Radiator Springs Racers. If I'm Robert. I'm thinking well you could just take the single rider line and you can get on relatively quickly however that is no longer really the case. Single rider line is is getting longer. I don't know if you've noticed that but in it's really a fun ride and I'm never going to wait in this line for that ride. It's always very very long if you do single ride or you can't ride with your group and now that my daughter's age to write it Era of height. I should say I can't really justify Doing single ride or waiting in the standby lines. That makes it tough. Yeah there was something. What was it about fast? Pass for Raiders Springs. Racers the MERGE POINT WHISTLES THOUGHT. It was really early. Yeah I think we also had a guy who is really struggling to balance out the lines. It can get like that. It's in sort of a weird bottleneck area. The whole thing it. And there's three different lines or standby. There's fast passenger single writer and people were confused. It gets to be a weird situation. I think those are both good choices. Yeah very good. So which ride do you think is different exit or a refurbishment from the parks so I play with a few different things on this at some obvious once but the one that I keep thinking about I think about all the time is every once in a while? They'll change soaring over Califor- back this or an over California in DC. A and I just wish they'd keep it that way. I wish they'd like they're like oh two months only and we're GONNA change it back to you know soaring over California's just keep it. The the name of the park is still California. Adventure and to me It's just the better version unless you get a really good seat on you. Get like the perfect seat. On soared over the world. There can be some warping in just the way they did. The video was different and I just have a lot of nostalgia myself for torn over California so if I can have them you know. Sort of refurbish or change one thing. It would probably be changed that right permanently back to soaring over.

"Well I'm going to take I'm gonna take up your recommendation I'm going to try and find me some screwball but Wesley I half the tribe if it just once in Chicago that you can get it at Danny we want to have a bottle at home or there's a you know obviously have will have it H. FAQ already has the house of blues have that will we just played with this headline the I am fast last Saturday so want to stop in Chicago have pretty much I'm leaving a trail of screwball wherever I go where did you love for music come from well you know I the claim and I was like fourteen and I basically just had a lot of time you know sit in my trailer we can get it to go and shoot scenes so that's where I spend most of my time doing something I you know useful and then I would say that music kind of kept me out of trouble sort of transitioning from being a child actor into a young adult after I don't know if that makes any sense but it was sort of a creative outlet for me no that means that makes perfect sense I mean you you need something especially at that age to keep you occupied to keep you from getting out of trouble exactly like what you said so that's fantastic yeah so I mean you know its it's all about actually play at the I. at the wizard world comic con stage as well so I'm gonna ask the simply a double on Saturday of doing like an acoustic sat around five and then racing over to Wrigley for a full band said that beer has and I went out yes all yes I have a couple films coming out too what do you have come out September sixteenth in theaters will be zero they'll directed by James Franco starring James Franco Seth Rogan will Ferrell Danny McBride Megan fox to a drama period piece in nineteen sixty nine I play Martin Scorsese all wow nice and then the other one I produced is called adverse and that will probably premiered a festival and then we're looking at like an April release in theaters and it's Mickey Rourke you know what the and Miller Lou diamond Phillips and Sean Astin well that's that's interesting yeah I know I think Walt Matt Ryan and Sam Levine are here it was a war comic con so we're actually they're both in adverse so we're doing like a little adverse photo op opportunity at wizard world there's three of us from the movie even though the movie had to come out yet you know that calm that sort of that the findings about was a war comic con is you get to get a group of people together that all don't work together and give you like fun group yeah it's a lot of fun to be together on these weekends and do those type of things Thomas Ian Nicholas is I guess is seven twenty WGN and used you say you're playing an zero ville you're playing Martin Scorsese which sounds pretty awesome to me but you also have played and I don't know how many people can say this you played Walt Disney what was that like me only only one other person to say that his name's Tom Hanks so you're in good company exactly yeah I I well he was born in Chicago Walt Disney was yes so now there's sort of a filiation which Chicago B. I play in in a movie called well before Mickey that you can catch on Netflix now came out a few years ago in theaters from the age of seventeen to the age of twenty seven for he created Mickey Mouse so it's sort of his struggles trials tribulations failures and perseverance it's really inspiring so when you're playing an actual person do you just try and put your own give your own tape or in a situation like when your plane Scorsese did you get an opportunity to talk to Martin Scorsese did you talk to members of the Disney family before portraying wall or did you just decide to try and just give it your own spin on your own you know that's like the perfect world of both of those scenarios and in both instances I just did not I was not given enough time to prepare as an example when I got the phone call on the offer to play Walt Disney and I accepted it they say great you start shooting in seven days I was on a plane to Florida and five wow so I had you know essentially five days to prepare and then change that sort of thing with Martin Scorsese it was like got a phone call and I was working a couple days later so I don't want to say that I took the opportunity I mean what if you had said Hey you can play this role you got three months then I definitely would have done all those things in the instances that I had I just kind of watched as much of them as I could as close to the time period that I could sure that was you know I obviously for say there were there was only really like some stuff there's more stuff around that era where is playing in nineteen sixty nine you know kind of like that short film that he did with Harvey Keitel in in something like that he was called the gun maybe I know there's a guy at a party that's like sort of this thing that he's in his own thing but Walt Disney there was nothing of him prior to him being like thirty years old and already established and I was playing in the wall before that so without one I just kinda had you I don't know sort of just I'd take on what I thought his persona would be can I knew how different I was at the time I was what thirty three or something like that when I played in thirty four and I just looked at my life like twenty years difference in how different I was so I'd like you know I can't pretend to be the older version of him playing a younger version I just have to focus on the drive in the passion and the vision you know feedback from anybody from the Disney family after the movie came out no not from the Disney family per se I mean Diane Disney Miller wrote the words in the book that the someone based on so I know that everything in the book was true but we also had to make some creatives medication creative licenses because his show him starting and stopping or starting in failing at five animation studios in Kansas city what have been very redundant so we truncated some of those things I mean you kinda have to income you have to take creative license is to tell stories the way that stories kind of work well you know I I don't necessarily know what what they think of it I know I know fans have been you know pretty appreciative of of the performance and life it can I try did you know do the best I could that's I guess really all you can do in those moments when the outside date to prepare Nicholas is our guest is going to be appearing at wizard world comic con all weekend long at the Donald the convention center the end Rosemont and there's quite a lineup of people that are appearing this weekend Jeff Goldblum Zachary Levi who just played this is Sam Melissa Joan Hart a Billy Zane grey grew and Berg I do like to be Greg Grunberg oh yeah well my best friend is JJ Abrams like between all these movies that's awesome Easter got you read John trouble and yes and what a what a great get that is John Travolta and and I've always heard that and I've only I've never interview Travolta but I've always been told and and Thomas Ian Nicholas will be is in this group as well but I've always been told historically the three nicest guys in Hollywood R. John Travolta Henry Winkler and Steve corral and Travolta and Winkler are both going to be at wizard world this weekend also that I should just do crowds play as he growled and well there you go we know you're just you are the fourth and I'm wrong on mount Rushmore of of the nicest people can you check in the mail thank you very much so I I we were talking about the ventures movies and things of that nature earlier in the show so what type of of folks go to these conventions is it a bunch of people dressing up is it is it casual fans it's pretty much everything you know you've got people that are dressing up that are in June you know all sorts of college play or into marbled universe or DC universe or in the anime for you've got like you know the look you lose your just the family it's pretty much you got every type of person that's there and the best part about was a will comicon outside of it being for people of all ages in that there's just no judgment is Jizerou judgment there's no like you dress up for a look at that guy he's dressed you weird like just near a judgment so it's kind of where that can be seen the free get to attend as well as the normal people in the crazy people and whoever people and we don't have a good time and you sign autographs and take pictures and do all that good stuff as well yeah yeah like I said it before money entertainment stage I'm a blue but I do me angry sad and yeah if you want to collect like sign pictures they can or sell fees or actual photos I run a give me trivia at top panel on Saturdays so you can kind of come and get a little bit more balls a little bit more and then a Q. and a where I'm just up there answering questions that you may be already heard me answer anymore interactive we can win prizes kind of beat me on Disney trivia knowledge well if you want to see Thomas Ian Nicholas this weekend you're going to have lots of opportunities to do so is going to be at wizard world comic con all every day this weekend correct through Sunday am I right yes Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday I'll be there all four days and also I should mention that the the show with my band it beer had it after the cubs game and it's completely free so there's no cover charge well that's awesome so if you're going to a cubs game where you're going to be in Wrigley fell on Saturday head on over to beer had barn eatery and C. Thomas Ian Nicholas and his band and did you do something with blues traveler I did about four years ago I think five years ago I wrote a song with John Popper and it made the cut and came out on their two thousand fifteen album entitled war and then they they sort of collapse with a bunch of our amazing artists jul Hanson three oh three Gavin degraw you know the dirty had you name it they were on there and somehow I'm part of that well I love I love John and share and especially because when I take a picture with them I look small they're gigantic huge man am I right got reformed with I perform with them at red rock in Denver as well as the Greek theater in Los Angeles right do every year yeah yeah yeah I was with them I want to say like either into the summer two thousand fifteen when the album came out over the next year but yes I look like a tiny child on well Thomas I I'm gonna try to come out and see you on Saturday dear head because I'm usually in Wrigley fell on Saturday nights I'll be the I'm the guy at the end of one of the bars there so I might as well be the guy at the end of the bar beer had section and I look forward to seeing you on Saturday can absolutely and was a world comic con goes on all weekend at the Donald E. Stephens convention center he's got a couple new films out zero bill comes out in September with James Franco and adverse comes out with Mickey Rourke and Thomas Ian Nicholas in April and if you're going to be taking a road trip a great city to see a man is Austin Texas is going to be a high ball November ninth Thomas thank you so much for coming on WGN on this hour and I appreciated short notice as well and I have a great weekend and and have a great time while you're inside them yeah sounds good enough you can try shot a screwball peanut butter whiskey with me on Saturday night if your hat I will absolutely do that absolutely perfect thanks Thomas I thank you and that's Thomas Ian Nicholas you know him from American pie you know from rookie of the year and he's gonna be at wizard world comic con all weekend long and you can see amid bear had bar in eatery and Ridley fell on Saturday gonna take a bre Greg quick break come back and I want to talk about ride shares right shares to me are kind of like Brussels sprouts you either love him or you hate em do you have a ride share your story call me or text me nine me or text me three one two nine eight one seventy two hundred if you have a ride share horror story I take ride shares a lot and I've got a couple of thoughts on them coming up on can step in this is seven twenty WGN the median is the home of.

"Thoughts on store tours. I think it is a good right. It's a really good right. That's one of my favorites now my favorite though is going to be the best what's going to be the best star wars ride. I do not any Roger. Replace the business of it okay. I like to use them proper English. I think the fucking ride's GonNa meet this though like you get a pilot the Millennium Falcon but something that freaks me out is like people like the people in the costumes they know if you like crashed who also smoke so we'll talk about that during we'll talk about that during the Galaxy guest I love Star Tours. I have great memories of going on Star Tours with you. guys us being the rebel spies like that. It's different every time you write it. You gotTA randomized characters and Effects and planets you go to and again. The Q. is is so amazing it star tours like it actually looks like you're going into a space airport and all the droids around and even there's Easter eggs when they looks like they're scanning your body body as you walk through and there's other aliens you could see and it. I love this right yeah. There's wrecks. They're fortnight's skin. Eh Let's hear from our second set of podcasters about their love for starters. We're GONNA HEAR FROM GO MOUSE SCOUTS PODCAST Justin from the Monday morning monorail podcast Matt Matt from the love of the mouse podcast capture the magic podcast kingdom the Kingdom and Craig and Michael From connecting with Walt. I Love Star Tours. I do too. I I have the whole original the original spiel you know yeah memorized and I have it as audio file on my ipod okay so this is this is funny when when Megan and I were dating adding she had made me a mix tape. Only it was a mix CD of star were not our of Disney sounds like Disney. Any parks sounds in audio and the the original star Tours track was on that and so I would drive around town. Alan is I was delivering pizzas with that going and it made the time go by much much faster and it was much more enjoyable. You're if you're driving crazy though because well I I had I had green lasers on my ex wing. I mean Kia Rio. What do you think about Star Tours. I love it in your favorite song. That's often your must do yeah totally totally totally some institute twice and we'll do one oh okay all right when he says he'll do it one time with dad one time with me go party on when star tours came to the parks and I actually got to experience one of my favorite movie franchises in ride form and kind of walk around that mark set that they have set up there with the ad at and end the walk village and then go in and actually see R two D two and c three Po and experience some of those exciting space battles roles and do even do a trench run on star tours as part of the actual bride adventure. It was a thrill it always has been for me and I enjoyed it even before they added the you know started incorporating some of the new movies into it and added the variation. I would have written that ride over and over again regardless but now of course it's even better star. Tours is my favorite experience in the Disney parks. Currently I know that will change once. Galaxy's edge opens opens. I think just the landover all will be my favorite eventually but as of now star tours takes the number one spot for star wars experiences and I would have to say okay because of the well right now. It's really the only ride for Star Wars but other than that is because you can experience different things each time you ride it. I haven't been lucky enough to do that. My few trips where I've I feel like I've gotten the same scenes with George are banks every single time which is extremely unfortunate because his me like many are not fans of jar jar but other than that I think overall star tours is a great ride. It's very fun especially. If you're riding with somebody for the first time time that's their first time experiencing it. I know that it does get a little bit of flack for the motion sickness and that kind of experience is daunting to some people but overall. I really really enjoy it and that's definitely one of my favorite things in the Disney parks. When it comes to Star Wars that they put the new scenes in because forever it was the same it was the same James Scenes like the same story line and everything so we'd like that they put the new stuff from the movie and however it's been awhile since I've been on it? It does make me a little nauseous and it hurts my head a little bit so I can't really write it as my thoughts on that. She does have pretty bad motion sickness. I've always liked star tours. It's one of those it's kind of. It's been there as long as I can. Remember going to Disney so it's been one that you can always be like I hi can ride that in it. It's fun. I do think it's probably a not there. In five to ten years I kind of think with galaxies edge opening opening up. It's going to be kind of weird as having the Star Wars ride that's outside. Galaxy's edge that getting older so while I do enjoy it and I think for what it was for the time period was there it was great. It's probably going to go away so in with Gal stuff going in I. I don't think it'd be too upset about it. There is some nostalgia their the star tours as it was once called made more sense when it was a little sillier when it was like the the two were shipped gone gone awry a you know a little goofy. I think I'm sure they leave leaned out of that a little bit. It's not quite as silly as as it once was was the J. Rex yeah yeah yeah yeah soon to be a DJ sure and I think I think what where they've they've gone to is really fun. It's always like my wife. Aaron finally got to be the spy on this last trip. I got to do that and that's still like thrilling. You know I feel like I'm famous. I'm spy yeah I still have no idea how that is chosen or what like if there is someone that chooses that or right for just you know on a random see. I Don L. but I made the worst face in the hopes that I would be chosen if it if that is a criteria for being chosen and I was yeah so I was very excited to see my very bad face that I made a good time now in past episodes of have connecting us what we've talked about that first meeting between Disney CEO Ron Miller and George Lucas that the Silverado winery in Nineteen eighty-four to talk about bringing star worship Russian Disneyland Most Ron's wife Diane Disney Miller Serve Chicken Salad sandwiches so crate you mentioned writing on star Arturo. Do you believe that provides a quality experience for guests who want to enter that Star Wars universe a little bit controversial on this I would I'd say the original iteration of the version absolutely did it was classic in every every way shape and form of it and I I will fight anyone in say even up to the day that they closed it down that it still held up in every way the same way that you still watch the the original three movies and just because they're using all these practice practical effects to bring the stories to life in the obviously the special effects of went into it like it's it has a religion that still holds up to this day because of it and that's that's what original star tours did for me to it's they always felt one hundred percent real when you know when I watch episode four our new hope and we get to the final battle and they're doing the runs through the trench the death star like being able to ride that on star tours was was the absolute best it was it was a great experience and I I still do love Star Wars Star tours the adventure continues. I just don't I don't like the randomness of it. I think that's what kills me when I get when I get an order that makes complete sense. I love it like for example. All the the one that that was kind of the locked down the only one that you would get right after the last Jedi I opened up with you would go from you would go oh from being on Juku and having the the scene with the Millennium Falcon and Enra- and and Finn Flying at too then cutting to a scene that included bb eight in the middle talking about the rebel spines of and then from there going into the last Jedi sequenced in for that like okay onboard because it's it all keeps everything together in the same time line for the most part I don't like when you're bouncing around from prequel trilogy stuff to to then going from there to to the original trilogy in a way it just I it's it's a little too sloppy now and if there's one things at true star wars fans are it's very particular about muddling and meddling with details like like that and so the original one if they could ever convert it back even for like one week only one month one year my gosh. I would spend spend every day writing that the new versions not awful either limited time magic. Maybe we'll do that. Bring back some day I like. I like all the versions. It's all the iterations of it. I don't mind the randomness of it. I find that exciting like Oh. It's going to be different. Where are we going to go. Take me there and and so but now if they did that for star Trek where we went from original series to next generation to to voyager to enterprise all in one. I would have a really rough time with that so I can identify. I fully fully appreciate what you what you are saying but I it doesn't bother me. I love it so this is this is just such a fun attraction. Thanks everyone for that. Star tours is not the only attraction or thing you could do this based on star tours. There's lots of other things and we'll talk a little bit about those star tours as the main one. They used to have star wars weekends. They started in ninety seven ended in in Twenty fifteen at Disney's Hollywood studios so they would have weekends. I think in the beginning it started his one weekend and then it went to like a month weekends where they would have stores actors. People pulled dressed up different events differ merchandise. I've ever hearing about that. When we went yeah. Hey remember yeah we never experienced that but those are really cool actual actors ears again meet them and of course the the Jedi Training Academy Yeah. You guys got to do that spiral. You've got to do it twice not three now twice. We didn't do it. The third yeah I remember and then you've got to do it stitched. What are your thoughts about that. Donald and goofy they went to the storage trading academy and and then drowsier came out and there were they they had all the kids there and then Diaz Darth vader the person training the kids was like don't worry the balance of the force is leaning towards an Kylo Ren rock down says there is no battle balanced so that's the updated version which we never got to do where they added Kylo Ren and even the seventh sister. We did the one where you guys get seven from rebels but we did the ones where you guys got the fight Darth vader yeah. It's cool you get a pain. You get certificates forgets. Could we did it with our friends to that was fun. I like at the end of the homes of which way we go with the stormtroopers troopers not that way not either high high. You need help yeah yes so they add some comedy to it. Where's are the Jetta has to open the doors for this storm troopers. It was really good and even the outside of Star Tours. We didn't talk about what the big at maybe some so. I hope they have something like that. In galaxy edge some SORTA jet. I turn because I know it's closed down into the land. I think disneyworld well still has it. Doesn't you have to go up to like twelve and then once you're over over the age of twelve. We can't do it does he. Land in Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland in Paris have done hyperspace mountain or they changed Space Mountain to be Star Wars themed where they play the Star Wars music and I think do projections of like tie fighters and stars in the mountain which seems pretty cool. I never got a chance to do that. Then they changed training trials the temple right so you fight darth vader. That's what we talked about. Kylo Ren seven even sister they even have the voice of Iota talk to you guys which is really cool. You get lots of good pitcher too. If you ever do that and you get the photo pass you get lots of cool pitchers from that. They have the launch bay. Would you guys think of the Launch Bay. It was really cool..

"Disney and the ROY side of the family never completely got along. I think that would have been the dream for their fathers to have the boys kinda take over the company. But there was not a good chemistry there. So in nineteen ninety four. Stanley gold who was Disney's attorney and ROY kind of orchestrated a takeover at a buy out of the company. This is ROY Edward Disney. Roy it. Thank you. Yes. Right. Edward disney. Who is son of the co founder? Yes, Rio Disney, you'll always hear people when referring to the Roy's with an initial because otherwise we don't know who the hell is who I went to school with ROY the fourth. And so in my house, he's my ROY. Oh, yeah. That's how we differentiate. This was the crazy thing about my dad knowing Diane, Diane, Disney Miller, and then me going to school with the ROY side. I knew both sides of the family, and they didn't know each other. So when I would see my ROY his sisters. I grew up with all of them since I was really little I think Ryan started in kindergarten together and our school. Our pavilion was the ROY Disney pavilion. Of course, it was. But I would say, oh, I was just with your aunt, Diane. They didn't know who I they would either. Kind of know, but it was such a trip to to be with both sides of the same thing to know Joanna Miller one of their daughters. Same thing, I know one side and the other side, it's very strange themselves are really sweet people. They're all lovely. Was just always a little robe of some sort. And what that was. But that that was the turning point for animation. It's a studio in for a lot of things..

"In Walt DisneyWorld grew Zoar, and then PHI to Paris and run that half marathon is so that would be like my ultimate bucket list. I know everybody says like Shangai in Tokyo, but that would probably be mine. Yeah. I would definitely say mine is because I'm obsessed with Disney history and everything about it on actually there's two parts of the story. So definitely be Disneyland and to walk in Walt's actual footsteps Disneyland park and a visiting the studio in Burbank could literally bring me to my knees in tears because to see the enemy building waltz office. I'm talking like, the ink and paint rooms that the anything the Sherman brothers room. Anything? I could get might see that would be my dream and also getting to the Disney family museum. So fun fact really quick is a couple of years ago. We were on a flight back from DisneyWorld and on the fly. It was just my husband. And I and there was a documentary about wall where his daughter Diane narrated, most of it. So when I got back to Connecticut, I wrote Diane Disney Miller a letter just proclaiming my love for her father. And what Disney has given me. It's literally the keep. Her of all my childhood favorite memories. And how it brought us together as a family, and I sent it to this was I want to say maybe four years ago, the vineyard that her and Ron Miller OMB together in California care of Disney. Diane Miller in a month later, she sent me a letter with two tickets. First of all experts are saying her gratitude and two tickets to the Disney family museum from her. So I probably will never cash those in and I'm keeping them under lock and key. But I just have that connection. So definitely Disneyland. The studio in Burbank and the Disney family museum. That's awesome. I've got how are you a D Twenty-three member? No. And I've looked into it. What kind of bums me out a little everything about it? I love and I I know you can tour waltz office with that. I think once a year is, but they don't do a lot in Florida. And you know, it's just to get out. It's already toughened up we live here. And it's. To go three hours north, so yeah, I would I would definitely look into it more if they offered a little more even in New York City, a little more. But are you guys members? 'cause I really wanna be one. We are not, but are fringed Jackie and Sean are and they use their d twenty three membership to go to Burbank in do that free tour through and they still rave about it. And they went when the kids are a little older and my husband, and I can have a little more time. I would death because that's not a trip. I'd wanna bring kids on so. Yeah. No, definitely. I would love to be a d twenty th remember one day. We are we have the free membership. Yeah. Yeah. Just like we away signed up. I don't even know what we get. We get a newsletter. I think. Yeah. Trot Nick newsletter. So the next one would be your favorite Disney resort. Though, again, so boardwalk is my family's BBC home resort. So can't I have with that one. But on my most recent trip with my husband assess to we stayed at bay lake, and I am almost a magic kingdom resort conver- at this point is coming to the dark side. I totally am because especially at bay lake like your connected to the contemporary have literally everything there. I'm dining quick service, the bars, a great view of the fireworks, he left character. Dining you have everything and you're right on top of the fireworks in space mountain. But Bailey was just so quiet, and peaceful. I'd like I couldn't believe it. And then you have your own security entrance and soon we will no longer hover family brick there. But you can see. Berman a loss. So yeah. So I I'm true blue to boardwalk, but. They're on my favorite. I am true. Blue one hundred percent the Polynesian village resort. That was growing up. We always stayed there. And I was just staring February that I am a magic kingdom resort person. I've stayed at been fortunate enough to stay at all the resorts around the magic kingdom, and that one is just I mean, you walk into I could literally smell the lobby right now from thinking about it, and it just brings back so many memories. So definitely the Polynesian for me. How does that pool rank as a pool for little kid? Well, I I I mean, it's on beatable mind children could play in that play area all day for the kids literally all day, they have to lifeguards on duty at all times. And so, and then they have chairs around it enough chairs, by the way, you don't have to put your towel down. Enough chairs for every single parent to sit there around it, and, you know, watch their child so that and we've been to a bunch, and I've even been to who my kids have been to the pool at the beach club. Got and beach club, which is one of you never one says, it's a top pool, and it it it's a great pool. But that one at the Polynesian, you just there's no denying it's one of the best ones. Yeah. And that's, you know, sadly, we'll boardwalk lacks. They didn't even have zero entry. So it's like when we were there. My four year old was finally going down the slide like over and over and over again, the big skirts clown lied. But my two year old at the time. Like he just kept throwing his cars into the water, and we had to keep going down. The and take a magazine only have that like tiny little baby pool into the water. So that's why it's hard for me to pick a ever 'cause wilderness has a great play area. I'm grand Floridian. I'm Saratoga springs has a great one too. So let's say so hard for me to pick a favorite because I'm really critical. I was gonna say boardwalk, you got the creepy clown. That has to be oh, Polynesian has a dole whip counter out by the pool. I mean, come on you get your own. All great choices. So next one moving onto attractions and rides. If you could only fast pass one writer traction for the rest of your life, which one would it be. Okay. So unpopular opinion. Probably everybody thinks is right. It is over rated. I have to say the seven dwarfs mine train. Just because the line is always always always too long. It's hard to get fast passes for and the ride is so short. It's just like you just can't justify that wait time. Even with our little interactive stuff along the way, light my kids have still not ridden it yet. Because I just I won't do that line with them. I've only been it when I've been on solo jets for work. So that would have to be the one I would pick. I would say right now, actually, you know, fast past it's funny because I was originally going to say splash mountain, but there's been times where we're randomly. It'll be a ten minute way. And you can walk on right now. The the house favourite is slinky dog dash, and that would be my choice, and let me tell you Disney Imagineering really hit out of the park with that. Because unlike my I like the mine train, but it was. All this buildup. And then, you know, it's a little short slinky dog feels like the longest ride, and it's great for a family. So definitely slinky dog right now. Yeah. I was I was a little bit in when you start Jamie Lee. But you really be back in latter. When you pledge your case, I can see that point in not the biggest syndrome on train, but slinky dog love it. Yeah. Awesome. I was the first person whenever they first did their rendering of the drawing me like in outdoor roller coaster like what are they thinking? But it not is getting van. Yeah. It's awesome. So kind of sticking with rides which ride do you think is day for either an exit or refurbishment? Okay. So. I would have to say to care slow progress in. I am all for the rides. Anything feel close to all? I know. I mean, that's why we love seeking. The carousel of progress in every time I go on it. We literally get stuck making no progress whatsoever on the earth O'Brien how you have to answer to the emergency exit solid save that. But if I could bring back a ride that should have been refurbished and not is it it. I would have to get my props to body wars because that was wine and like gosh at just accepted like it's never come in back because I'm pretty sure they took all the pieces of it and put it to Star Wars. And we're never getting it back. I bomb you. Well, you are a dieticians directly. Yep. I think so refurbishment it's kind of a redo I am a hard core. Figment and dream finder fan. And I think you guys know where this is going. I want a redo of that. Right. It needs to go. I know it's never going. I'm Evan accepted. It's never going to go back to the original. But I just wish something I refer. We we do whatever it is journey into imagination. I think for an exit. I thought really hard, and I actually I think everything right now, especially with Star Wars opening up and Toy Story leeann last summer. Everything is perfect. The only thing I would say and I've heard rumors the Indiana Jones stunt spectacular. I think either needs to exit really doesn't go with the theme of that of Hollywood studios right now. I think so I think that's either due for an extra or a major overhaul. I can agree with that. We have seen that show
