"The fourth quarter matters tech game so jeeze. I chose the wrong time to go get groceries earlier today. So what were you thinking. I thinking i needed food. And that i needed to eat and so speeding home. And kyle's like hey you can come up here and watch the rest of the game with me. Anytime is keep an eye on the score and it stayed close and it stayed close by the time i got home. There's like four minutes left seattle versus phoenix. And i had missed like most of the third quarter ends of the fourth quarter. And it's like. Oh my gosh. I ran up there and it was literally tied at seventy and i was like you know anyone who's watch these teams play for the last decade. Knew that it was gonna come down to this exact scenario anyway like this. There is no way that way. I love that you pulled that out. You're like anybody who's ever watched these teams play for the last like it. You can't expect anything different from what we got today like. This is exactly what you in fact. I was watching for just a second. I had some. I had something. I had to take care of and all of a sudden the show back on and i messaged our group buzau. Hey just turned it back. On and steve. One of our other host goes. It's going exactly how you expect it to go. Which means it's like a one point game late like into the second half so i go. Did did phoenix take a late. Lead within sue bird. Hit a big three like. Yeah yeah. that's exactly what happens. Figures so logan. I'm really excited tonight to get right into read into things. I want to start with the first game that happened today. Let's start with seattle and phoenix. Because i think there's a lot there's so many bonus story lines that go on with With when these two teams play there was a lot of extra like just extras like sauce with this one because of history because of player personalities interacting just because of the tear that phoenix has been on and like the seattle cutting came into the playoffs. Not having the greatest second half the season or back into the season you could say but first of all. I just want to turn it over to you. What was your just. What was your thought process as we. I'm i'm gonna start with like after the game. Boys your thought process when diana terachi and sue bird go to visit with holly row in a postive interview together like it doesn't happen hardly ever in sports where two players from opposite teams like co interviewed seconds after one beats the other in a winner-take-all playoff matchup like such an odd thing. And i don't think we appreciate how unique that scenario is because it's something that we've seen with with these two players in the past. I'm just curious. What was your thought process as you saw them go to visit with hawley post game. Yeah i love. It.

"Too old to learn anything from but these teams have both changed a lot since then In dallas they lost their first one in and then one their their next to against chicago so clearly. There's something they learn from those match ups. I'm concerned the sky. I'll be honest with you. I don't know what it is can't put my finger on it but there's something chemistry wise that's not consistently clicking with that team and when you look at them on paper they are way too talented. Even ima games were is parker was hurt to have seven game losing streaks like we've seen them have to have these games at home where they just have no energy. Is it me. I mean i know you were just recently at chicago. what did you learn from from that caroline. I saw two different chicago teams as of recent and their second game against the las vegas aces. They came out with the team that they like the team they should be. They came out with great energy. Their number one priority was their defense and they got their energy from their defense and when they play like that but when it comes to a team playing very good defensively that is demonstrating a level of trust. And you know that you can do your job and you know your teammates got your back. So then that can carry over into the offense and then the spread the wealth. You've got to trust that. Courtney vander sloot is gonna get the basketball to the right people in the right places because like you talked about. They got a ton of talent. They got a ton of players that can score but they have to be in the right position to score. Police copper needs to establish i attack in the basket using quickness using her speed then she can revert back to that three point shot. That will open up. Things for allie. Quigley 'cause you gotta worry about copper than quigley's going to get her time and candace parker's got flex. She's got to demonstrate that she is an inside and outside player yes. He's a six four player with guard skills. But she is unstoppable when she goes inside and she uses her pro lose Being able to score would that fadeaway or going to the basket. Then she can establish from the perimeter as well like that violence and went down into shifts comes in get in her rhythm as far as running in transition attack in the basket using their quickness. If i'm wait. I'm having a conversation today. Especially with courtney vander sloot and candace parker reminding them you to our winters and you to our leaders because he can do all he can on the sideline but that leadership has to come from in the locker room and in the uniform and when that happens that can bring it all together for the chicago sky. Well they have all the talent. Will they get it done. I'll say this. I'm sure the wings are chomping at the bit because you know they've got a couple of players that are from not too far from chicago a week ago wallets from right down the road in milwaukee You know fighting. Irish fans are not too far away with her marina plan on the same team so It's going be interesting. But i am happy to see chicago. Get home game. Hopefully they can end on a great note so that will be the first game of that double header on thursday for to kick off the wnba playoffs now. The second game is that ac. The new york liberty that wanted because no one else wanted against the phoenix mercury now. These two teams played three times. This season Phoenix won two of those and new york actually was shorthanded. In their second to match ups against phoenix. The to that they lost sammy. Wickham did not play in either one of those games and then jasmine jones missed one. But but nigel laney had twenty three points and the game that they did win. We know that she's a big part of what they do. What are your thoughts on this matchup. Well i think that in order for new york to have an opportunity Ladies got to be the first option you bring in you know. Get the ball to benign delaney and sammy wickham being back on the floor. She pushes tempo and she brings. I mean you gotta look at that that championship experience coming out of seattle and her team and they're young. They have to listen to her so he knows what it takes to advance in the playoffs. And she's gotta have her shot opportunities. I think that the that the tasha howard is going to have her hands. Full because britney grinders playing great basketball right now and who's going to be the defensive lot not necessarily focused on dying atrocity if she plays but on scholar diggings because since the olympic break diggings has brought her a game. She's playing with a chip on her shoulder with something to prove. And you don't want it now. I think that it's not a matter of scholar. Digging figuring out how to play alongside diana terachi but understanding. She's a star in this league. Absolutely and you know we don't know what's going to happen with diana to rossi in the last time. These two teams meet phoenix. Blue new york out of the gym and so you know in their own arena. And i remember britney griner having a dunkin game as well so i think new york hopefully has more confidence in what they can do. Defensively against digging smith having sammy whitcombe and especially having jazz jones. Back at more full strength. Because they've got enough guards that they can put on scholar digging smith. I mean. They've got dvd richards..

"Yup yup yup yup. That's that's what we're going with plymouth. Pearson this is another one that i went back and forth on but plenet pearson anchoring along with Rebecca brunson that Minnesota team and. I are probably are kind of went through this fast. I maybe should've picked brunson over planet. Pearson but i said what i said so there we go but i i just respect what it takes to you know beyond as they say in hockey the wrong side of a certain age whatever age is deemed respectable to still be competitive and to anchor a team a young team a team in transition and to keep them competitive long enough for you then to turn that around into championships cabbie pond. Dexter probably another one that i go back and forth with capi. Sometimes i'm like. Oh gra sometimes. I'm like dang laugh. Forget about capi but cappon. Dexter is one of those people that when i start looking at the lists of individual teams were the wnba. And i see the impact. Statistically that this individual player has been able to have. There's a lot of stuff You know even including recently that comes along with the capi pond exter- but i mean game recognize game and kp has game And has made an impact on the wnba. katie smith. When you hear certain players talk. I think i mentioned this about tina thompson. But katie smith the player intense hard to guard. There are not that many times where you have like an all time leading scorer that will also annihilate yo ass on defense yup so katie. Smith brian stewart. Now see some of y'all come on here. And i'm have to keep mutant y'all any time i go back and forth about whether i think asia wilson was the best player for usa basketball. Which i wrote about it. Go read about it. I said it. I'll say it again Regardless of the fact that i hold to that truth i in no way could ever dream of disrespecting stewards game. How do you do it. How do you do it. You wanna you wanna talk about post players stepping behind the arc was was to be the first to do it no. She's one of the more consistent players in this time of the wnba to do it. And so if you have student doing that now then what is junk jones gonna do. Where where does that. Leave a britney griner sylvia fowles the these are players that she's being guarded by might find on switches and stuff and now the now. They're going to go out to the to the arc. I mean and the the rings speak for themselves. Is that Luck is it's by design like at some point that it almost doesn't matter. Yeah stu he's been handed pretty good card but you can be handed a good card and not do anything with it. And that has not been the case for students. So Cheryl swoops shirl swoops One of the better defenders in history of the league alicia alicia clark of talked about a alana beard talked about katie smith. I just talked about. I love to meet to make a catching my more would knock on defense. That's my merit for her diameter. Hoc- not great on defense But she's also my list so shirl soups though also may be a little bit of a bias here. But it's my favorite player up. Defensive amazing still could drop a triple double on your ass. Come on anything. I think people sometimes forget that she could also score drive into the whole. Come on stop it. Stop in sheriff swoops all day. Diana's russi don't like diana ross defense She doesn't have as many championships as other people here. But much like the phoenix. Mercury and much like i said about a britney griner if you awaken the beast that lives inside of diana rossi help you. It's it's over. it's over. She can take over a game at will. The reason should not necessarily my goat is because and maybe it's just like i'm a. I'm a honor off person. i'm. I'm either like chillan not doing not thin or i'm like bunga among going super like i don't have many years it's yes or no on or off. We busted through the wall a damn nap. That's me so sometimes. I have difficulty understanding. Why a person as skilled and able to dominate a game as diana to rossi would ever turn that switch off. Why do you ever turn the switch off. Why why and. I'm learning as an adult. Because that's impossible to sustain over time if you want longevity a philosophical difference of opinion with how diana terachi kind of turns on and off and goes hot and cold but i mean it's got her pretty nice career. She's been plagued with injury. Allan listen diana. I must have this picture of what it means to be retired in her head and she knows that she's coming close to that picture but i think she's still holding onto wanting it to go just the way it is in her mind and listen even with the injuries. Broken back broken sternum broken chest. I'm not betting against it. Because if she unleashes the beast it's over it's over lindsay whalen another guard that just had a game not the best player on the court not the best player even in the league at the time but dt esque could turn it on sacrifice. The body got her teammates going. That's what a good point guard. Does some people like teasha penetration will do it with flashy passing some people do it with like getting up in people's face like teaspoon and grilling them in practice in shoot around in the game and doing all of that in private like grinding their gears. So that when she could love up on them anytime they did something big publicly in a game. So waylon like i feel like had a little bit of all of.

"Wow you heard from cindy brunson days when you look at what they have coming in. They actually did. It beats vegas on july seventh so But when you look distress they'd been on. They beat vegas. They be waxy. That was before the winning streak so they did by before the break. A beat vegas. They beat seattle. But in this seven. Seven-game stretch aby the dream. They be indian a you know. They beat a mystic. Seen has been quite gotten their footing. They beat atlanta again and then they beat the liberty twice so i think the chicago win was definitely one where people are like. Okay maybe phoenix is the real deal but timber eleven and september. Nine t were they have both the sun and the aces in town will be the big games to watch semi. You are on top of this. We appreciate your inside and hey we may see you in the finals down there. If all i remember that mungo yes but there's only three weeks left in the regular season before the playoffs star. And what i love about this phoenix team. Is there not only shooting the basketball. Well which had to be critical. Diana terachi had to get healthy and shoot the three. She hit five threes against chicago. She's back. That's not a problem but other people had to contribute. He never said she has taken her name off the milk cartons she exists now. She's no longer m. i. a. and then shave petty. jump off the bench and gives you three triple. So it's that outside shooting that opens up the middle create space for turner and greiner just like everybody else in the league. The bench short. It's the horses at the top. That have to get it done but i really liked this phoenix team. In way it's come together and that is what said he brought della has said all season long. We got three point shooters. Were we start hitting man. We will be dangerous and that has one hundred percent a big factor in what we see. It's been the x factor. Look at that ha yes yes. And that's what they need. Their fan base the expert and worked out. Well i never never that cool to things like that works. I sitting. you pointed. Show just thank you for being who you have been to the sports. The game women's basketball. We can only hope to see more of you. You know in both the wnba in college basketball. So thank you so much for your time of. Thanks for having me. I really appreciate. It can't wait to.

A becky hammon joins the fray. Which i really like. I'm a huge becky. Hammon fan diana tracy makes the team outright teresa weatherspoon as well going into the twenty at twenty we see simone augusta's added to the list As well as swin cash. I liked the addition of swin cash..

"In this olympics. I don't know maybe we should say we're playing already in japan. Who was either you know. Were already playing at home and they'd been playing together and that probably some of it. But what tomahawk tom. Yoga's able to do really impressive with his team. And i don't think enough can be said about the job that the women's Team for japan so a lot of credit to them. They were absolutely incredible and i mean they if the canadian team wants to hire tom hold. I would certainly not be opposed to that. Maybe they could get more than one win out of that team for the next olympic games. I yeah i mean it. It's an idea mean japan. You know they won that close game against belgium that i don't think anybody would have you know. Pick them They defeated francis well. got the bronze-medal. But just like it's so. I love seeing just like women's basketball outside of wnba. As well. because. I feel like you know a lot of people know the wnba players in the olympics so just to see all these other international players really good for the growth of women's basketball in general. I like because it is an international game. I feel like in some ways like it is a lot more international than we think even wnba players like they play overseas all timely. The some sports are just more international and the others like tennis being another one of those. But it's really nice ac- and i think that every every single olympics people just kind of tie in like bo. Women's sports are actually really good. And i feel like every time lille olympics pass or like oh we need to invest in them like. Yeah we've been trying to tell you this for god knows how long but you know it's good to have that spotlight on them and Speaking of a spotlight Brittany griner less. I'm gonna start with her because she had a thirty piece in that game. Like let's talk about you. Know her importance on this team. Usa why i mean like i said like obviously japan was over batch in terms of size. I think they're paul's player was like six one. And then you're going up against britney griner six eight like you're you're gonna have a tough time. So obviously britney griner was buried key Today's game. I think you just see like what the international with international rules you saw that with the tournament as well that bigger players with size carry more important in these games You can't just like they don't give you the foul calls and things of that nature so brittany griner is able to dominate. Because just bigger players get better. Call get a better whistle internationally as they probably should here in north america as well and brittany griner just like there was the league. They had the advantage there and they just kept going to it and she kept taking advantage of so credits. Britney griner for just never stopping and never settling for like an easy jumper. Something kept just kept taking advantage of the size matchup and just dominated that way and she always does that like well even talk about this maybe later but she didn't look tired in her first salvia. Va no game back either. I don't think any of the olympia. Instead like sue bird. Diana terachi judges suv dominating in the. The commissioner's cup game playing there and then diana with the mercury as well but i did want to get your thoughts on one thing because two players our bullying out. Asia wilson stewart. First of all. I do want to say congratulations stewart On her news a child. I thought that was very nice. Also the fact that she kept that under wraps that's like insane in itself but aside from that so we did get the mvp. A lot of people were saying that maybe asia asia wilson should have gotten it because she was balling out. I just kind of wanted to get your thoughts or opinion on that decision. I mean i. I'm a big asia. Wilson fan and i i i i will never say. She doesn't deserve an award. Because i think she deserves all the awards i think she's the best player in the w right now. That's like my personal opinion but I i don't think you can also deny.

"Was a pretty urging that they split the seattle series. But it doesn't surprise me but they'd be vegas because vegas is sort of they. They try to play that same way and to be able to match up. Well vegas last year. So this is maybe a sneaky team know. Phoenix gets a lot of coverage. They had three players be olympics. It's not like they get overshadowed necessarily but based on the first half performance. Maybe people don't expect a lot of them don't realize they've got a pretty easy schedule. Coming up and incredibly easy schedule whole of players that have been playing well. And i think if anything benefited from having players in the olympics instead of home arresting its venus. I think i think coming coming into their second. Half of the schedule yeah. I think that it's again. They play indiana three times atlanta three times and new york twice and then they've got a game against washington like all of those teams right. There are all very beatable. You only have to play once again chicago once against connecticut once against seattle once against las vegas. And if you can snag one or two of those games and be the rest of the teams that you should. Phoenix could vary very easily find themselves like in a buy in a first round bye scenario or at minimum so. I really like the second half of the schedule here. My player highlight which is funny. I don't think we've done this yet on any of the teams that we've covered but my player highlights to be sky. Dick which is basically. We just took the top two scores from the team. Which which is not generally how we've done this we've had. Oh i like this rookie. Oil like what this has been coming off. The bench sky dig is still trying to kind of figure out the role that she has how she plays alongside some of this phoenix mercury team. Because the one year she's had with them was in the bubble in. That was just a weird year obviously and so to have her be playing so well and come off this. She was in the olympics. But she wasn't so she's practicing with brittany griner with diana terachi. She's getting more minutes with them. Building relationships there but wasn't overly fried as far as playing time. I think that bodes well for for this group coming back off at the olympic schedule. So shout out to sky dig. Were big fans skydeck. Might be my wife's favorite player in the league. So i gotta give a shout out there. Logan let's give a great here as far as the phoenix. Mercury go. i'm gonna go ahead and and give them a grade of c plus. I think as as tough as their schedule was the first half of the season to be where they're at within striking distance having not played games against the bottom teams of the of the league. I think they're actually did a pretty good job. And they've got two more games to play than some of the other teams in the league. And so i. I like i like their odds of turning it around that being said it's passable right now but they have an opportunity for some real extra credit here in the in the back half of the season to to maybe make a push into the playoffs and do some damage there and if that happens then i'll be. I'll be raising my grade significantly for phoenix logo. I'm curious what you have. As far as phoenix's midseason grade. I don't want to be too harsh. I was kind of leaning towards a deep plus or a c. Minus at. But i feel like it's a big difference between those two. Okay i i'm going to give them the benefit of a doubt and kind of lean towards what expected in the second half which is a bad way to grade the first app. Okay but i'll go ahead and say see mine is i did. I looked it up. Just now what we're highlighting. Her in brady grants had eight games of twenty five plus owning this year most of them in recent which is really got going and phoenixes of only one of those games so as good as she's been as exciting as as excited as i am that she's playing.

"Okay. Here's the article by michelle voelpel police in in the in the show notes for you but this is about dawn staley when asked for the olympics if she would consider a second go round as usa women's basketball head coach dawn. Staley said jokingly that she needed to win in tokyo before even thinking about that now. The team usa has secured its seventh consecutive olympic gold medal. Staley has answered. Staley had an answer. Sunday i'm done. Staley smiled as she said it. In the americans post game news conference and was asked by. Us guard diana terachi. Does that feel good on guard. Sue bird diana terachi. One fifth olympic gold medal also confirmed that this will be here last olympics but she had said that even before going to tokyo to rossio on the other hand said you in paris which is the site of the twenty twenty four olympics though it was unclear whether she was joking. Or not okay. I played the clips in the first block in a black for you from sue. Bird dawn staley. Oh gosh i'm really like emotional about the dawn staley news but this is what i wanted to bring to your attention because i unclear about this as well And here's i'm just gonna read the last paragraph of this staley's departure means there will be all new leadership for the us women's basketball program by the next major competition. The twenty twenty two world cup national team director. Carol callan who has overseen the program since ninety nineteen ninety-five announced in july that she was stepping down from that role although she will still continue as prevot president of fiba americas so now carol callan is involved with fiba and it was feeble ultimately. If i'm not mistaken that said no to neka agoo mckay. I don't know if it was to be america's so here's the article former wnba mvp neck. Ogle mckay was notified by fiba that her petition to play for her native nigeria in the upcoming tokyo olympics was denied due to quote substantial involvement for more than ten years with us team usa sources. Toll espn wednesday. The nigerian basketball federation filed an appeal too feeble on behalf of good mckay and elizabeth williams zealander dream center who was also denied because of previous involvement with team usa. The federation wrote that yoga mckay and williams were quote. Two of the top players that would have made our team one of the strongest at the games. That's the nigerian federation wrote that. So i don't know. I just thought it was interesting That piece but speaking of neck agoo mckay. Let's go to her conversation at The la sparks media availability. So we're getting media availabilities in case you can't Tell why just gave you Media availabilities from the olympics. But we're going to hear from the sparks you're also going to hear from the mystics because there's some news there and Yeah lots of news but neka ogm mckay got emotional during her media. Avail the other day when asked about just reacting to everything that's happened regarding not making the us team the petition. Not being accepted for her. To play for nigeria. So here's a little taste of that. It's been a lot of like trying to figure out how to how i want to come out of this. You know because. I think when you endure situations that are tough in life you can choose any differ roads and their stages. You know and so now i just. I'm just really grateful to be playing with my team. You know. I'm grateful to be on a team with people that care about me And i just wanna play. I just want to play basketball. And i you know they always say like situations in trials you know you you. You grow stronger In what is inside of you is kind of like exacerbated. And so i would like to say that out of that like i've always been described as resilient and i think i had to kind of tell myself that a lot to make sure that i believed it because it's been a few weeks of feeling on invaluable or unworthy and so like it's been very difficult. I'm sorry i swear i wasn't good. It's been very difficult. So i just wanna play basketball. Oh sorry i just want to play and have fun and emotional neck. Oga mckay again. There's been a blemish on usa basketball for quite some time. This was a hard olympics It ended with a medal. It ended with two players making history with coach. The deserves so much more than she will likely get Brand stewards the mvp of the tournament. I don't know how was it. Asia wilson and even brittany griner really had a great a fantastic gold medal game Has me eating my words. it's just a lot. It's exhausting I did not obviously go through. What neka has gone through. But i feel her emotion and so many other things that we've had to endure sushi's emotional for a lot of reasons. I'm sure but i from what i heard her saying is that she's glad to return to the court and to be with her. La sparks team and to return in a space senate away where she knows that she's valued because when you're not playing and you're in the middle of turmoil as neka was unsure. It's hard to to hang on to all of the good. And i just imagine what it must take tanakh neck. Ogle mckay off of confidence. I mean that just baffles my mind. But we're not gonna we're going to end on what we hope is a lighter. Note someone else that did not make the twenty twenty twenty twenty. One team is atlanta della. Promising future once. She can stay healthy it which she has not been able to do but we're going to hear some updates on linda de you know had a fantastic tournament. Emma amon. her numbers are up there. With asia. wilson. With brian stewart. You know us to do is another player. And they played fewer games because they got knocked out sooner so But we're going to hear from the washington mystics about elena della don end a little bit about.

So the united states men's and women's five on five team captured gold. Of course that's seven street for the women that is five gold medals for diana terachi for sue bird. Diana says i'll see you in paris. Sue bird says what else can i say. I'm done and so did dawn. Staley don staley is is going home. She's done packing it all up. I think that hurts the most because she's been on this on this journey from player to assistant coach to head coach First black head coach. Who knows when we'll get another but thank you dawn. Staley you're amazing and while selfishly. I wanna see more. Listen don't staley. Don't louis damn thing y'all she don't owe us a damn thing. Let me take you over to the moments. Sue bird dawn. Staley calling it a career for usa basketball. When all four games. I was there to learn and take the torch from dawn and carry it and those older players caught us what it meant and not for us. Hopefully we'd left some sort of legacy with the younger players. Were they not carry that torch and so to be sitting here now after.

"Always look for an excuse to bring up the name of our order who should never be forgotten every year to the olympics played. She's thirty five years old richest right. She's a mom. Okay and here. She was again. You know it's funny when when you look back on carl lewis. How how differently would he be remembered if people liked him more at the time because we we all know what a flash point guy he was. And here's the other thing. I was thinking about mission. Your soul right. Yeah yeah so. We were there. That day ben johnson pool. Yeah okay and we kinda had the same reaction as he did. Pull away like wait. What okay. But if he had had that gold medal moment if truly okay if johnson had met a cheater and carl had pulled away from him that day which she would have johnson wasn't juice to the gills. Would we also have have a loftier memory of louis in his prime. Maybe he did a lot of things to undo. People's admiration he did dinty was cocky. He was strange sometimes. He was not liked by his fellow athletes and he. He stepped in it a lot in terms of putting himself in his own place. He stayed at different. Hotels just wasn't a team player. And at the time. As you point out mike. He wasn't very likable. even post. You remember try to sing the national anthem at the medicine. And he was just constantly doing things that made him unpopular which ran diametrically opposite to his talent which was unbelievable at the time where he was what he was able to do. The other thing he wasn't able to do was to break bob. Beams record and you know that thing hung out there. Oh god remember event that. Oh my god yes why. And so that that kind of held them back to but but Yeah you know. I mean history judges. That's why simone biles is so interesting because she's gonna be judged with much more love than carl lewis ever got a for far far lesser amount of performances. And i know it doesn't matter who. The goat is in gymnastics really But i do think after rethink that phrase for her. And i i never thought it should have been given out before her. Entire career is over because being a goat is not just how many metals you can lineup. It's doing it when you need to do it. You know it would be the equivalent of of dan marino and all his records in the nfl for yardage but you would never throw him in a goat conversation because he didn't you know when he got to a super bowl didn't win it and you never got to another one and you know. Sometimes it is doing when you need to have it done so you know. Meanwhile at the same time the swimmers did do it when they needed to get it. Done katya decky. Caleb trestle these were big names Even literature kobe young she is. I go back to high school now. there these were these were heroes. They did what they came there to do. I thought that the swim team performed excellently for for the united states as did a lot of the track and field teams then. There were the women's basketball team. And i was going to set basketball and swimming. Okay sue bird and diana terachi to go out on top now subaru. It isn't ruling. Come back. She says she's done okay. I was really happy for them. I mean they have. They have carried the flag basketball. This guy and guess what and the dude stepped up when they had to. It turned out to be a very good game against france. They made it a little bob. They made a little closer in the last last minute of the gold medal game than i would have liked three points. And i have three points and i'm going to do a shot on durant who i believe. Has i believe has established himself as the greatest olympic basketball player. we've ever had a gentle correction. It's the other way around with the women. Bird stunt rossi's uncommitted. Oh i listened to a pro okay. I'm sorry i wasn't listening to the the other day Of the story to chant will go. Mel game was was common sense. Throw the ball britney griner and get out of her way. I mean do do the tallest chapter slight size. Thomas japanese player is six one. And you've got a con compost. Six eight post player. It is wise to throw the ball when she did go. Fourteen for eighteen. Rank is the greatest. You know a big. We've ever had won the gold standard. Is lisa leslie. Who was six five. I would like to see them. We'll never know i would love. I'm still holding out for lisa. Leslie who was magnificent and lauren jackson. The australian is right there too but When you see greiner plato. She did the other night. I would just love to see you know an match up against somebody that was taller than six. Well she certainly did. She certainly did which you took advantage of the situation to to the.

"Earthly y'all another episode walk on women's basketball. You may also know me from the show locked on cracking where. I'm covering the thirty second national hockey league team for the locked on network. Hope you give me a follow over there. We've got free agency happening. And it's getting wild in the pacific north west anyway today on locked on women's basketball i'm gonna take you to the media room so you can hear from some of the usa. Basketball players chelsea gray and st louis in particular. You're going to hear from them after the win against australia. Setting them up to play in the medal rounds. And i'm gonna get you ready for all things. The women's basketball bracket you've got the united states taking on serbia and france. Taking on japan in the semi-finals so again that is the united states and serbia tonight at nine. Forty p m pt. So that's our twelve forty eastern time. Had to do a little math thing there. But let me Let me first. Break down the quarterfinals. Because if you miss. I feel bad for you. You missed the quarterfinal matches other than the united states australia. Because that's really where it was at belgium. Japan china spain france. Just fantastic fantastic. Fantastic fantastic basketball. I mean serbia obviously Fantastic basketball. So that's what i'm gonna do for the remainder of this block. If you will in the next block you'll hear you're up in the next block. You'll hear from chelsea gray and brianna stewart about and brianna stewart about the australia game. And the united states advancing and finally we will close out the show giving you a little bit little bit of a preview. What do we need to know about the teams competing in the semifinals. And what's really on the line. A lot of people talking about the sue bird diana to rossy getting five gold medals a lot of people talking about the united states going for another consecutive metal. But i think we really should be talking about asia wilson so much to the fact that i wrote about it for on her turf. So we'll talk a little bit about that and get you ready for the united states against serbia. Alright i want to go through the quarterfinals. First and foremost. Kate and monica are career rushing the game. I'm just so thankful that. I know kate scott That i know monica mcnutt and they give me something to aspire to. Eventually i get behind the microphone. Fingers crossed To call some hockey games on still free agent right now but hoping i can land a gig back with women's hockey but more of that probably not ever on this podcast again. But let's go to the quarterfinals again. The united states versus australia a lot of people including the fantastic monica mcnutt billing this as a revenge tour. Remember the united states loss to australia. In a tune-up in las vegas before heading to the olympics the big difference and i do mean big difference is that there's no liz cam bache and then the second big difference is the united states when they're kind of playing around versus the united states when They are playing in an elimination game in the actual olympics. So here's what you need to know about that game. The united states the united states defeated australia. Seventy nine fifty five and i. I told you. We're gonna talk about asia wilson but this was very much so a brianna stewart show. She was among the starters with asia. Wilson sue bird diana terachi brittany griner now to rossi for those who may not know seem to exit The last game. The united states had with an apparent injury but Is back in the lineup. But let's talk about stuey. And you know i had someone come on up mentioned because i wrote about asia. Wilson and asia wilson does have the best stats the only time. Asia wilson is either tied in top stats or is second in top. Stats the person who is right. There with her is louis so no. I don't feel bad writing about asia. Wilson and i'm never gonna completely ignore what's he is doing because she put it down but let me explain to you. Exactly what brianna stewart was able to do. She put in a team leading twenty three minutes and twenty nine seconds in the game versus australia. She led the team also in points. Twenty three points. The next highest point total brittany griner which you actually actually love to see. Greiner is a player that i thought maybe could have been more of a bubble player to even make this roster. A lot of people might be comfortable saying out loud. But i mean the truth and the facts are facts Other top performers in this game Total rebounds you have sylvia fowles and britney griner getting it done greiner with eight. Sylvia fowles with seven in Assists and you'll hear from the point. God chelsea gray about that a little bit including court vision. She was asked about that a lot. Post game Stu also to block shots as well as greiner so defensively. You'll hear the united states and you probably have seen this. The united states talked about defensively. This is one of their better games. That is the truth. Ruth but again i talked about a piece that i put out four on turf. I'm doing olympic coverage for on her turf in case yet. No go check out your girl. Aka i t- But i put out a piece Talking about essentially if you came just for the sue bird diana terachi show Then you're staying for the asia. Will wilson show. I mean in a nutshell. That's what i'm talking about. But ultimately it's a piece talking. About how asia wilson the impact. That don dailey has had on asia. Wilson is is allowing her to successful at two xl. Excuse me at all levels. But i wanted to go to some statistics here she. Asia wilson is the fourth leading scorer in the entire olympic tournament. This is according to the fiba stats. She is tied with three other. Wnba players. emma means men with Belgium a student do with spain or chicago sky. And her las vegas teammate. Park ji su We would say juicy park but the olympics. They go with surname. I n cheese with team korea. All of those players have to double doubles on the tournament of those players. Amemiya simon austin do a do and Park asia wilson is the only remaining player in the tournament. All others have been eliminated so she has the capability to take over the number one spot when it comes to double doubles asia. Wilson is averaging seventeen point eight points per game eight point five rebounds per game two point two assists per game in fifty four caps. I i think it's hilarious. That they call it. Caps to just think of caps is such a soccer thing but either way it is international basketball again. You're going to hear from team. Usa coming up in the next segment book. Let me just i. i don't know have y'all our hope. Y'all have been watching not just the usa games but all of the games and i'm not gonna lie the usa games. They put them on at the first game of the overnight. And i just. I can't always do that jaw but i am so glad that i caught the quarterfinal games. Between japan and belgium and france and spain japan came from behind to defeat belgium. Eighty six eighty five. Let me tell you. Julie alamo ememy siman mar stag all looked great in this game. It was unfortunate that belgium couldn't get it done. They had an opportunity to get the last shot. But it fell short heartbreaking but japan advances and has the potential to Win a medal now on home soil. So congratulations to japan. They just played a lot. Like what you see.

He's also had to turn down opportunities that could have raised his profile as an athlete. There's been agents that have wanted to represent me but because there are certain. NC Blairites I've I've said no you know like free items for gear and whatnot but fancy w rules are so constrict the new law in California could change that for future students athletes at California colleges will be able to earn money from advertisements and endorsements the low will also let take coaching gigs on the side in monetize online following on platforms like youtube the NCWA opposed the legislation. They declined an interview request but said in a statement at the level create confusion about the rules college programs. Greta says the change is overdue. They're making millions off of these players and these players aren't getting anything. You know you've heard stories of players starving. You know I think it's great that they're finding going to get paid you know. I think they deserve it. California Governor Gavin newsom signed the law on a special episode of HBO's. The shop surrounded by Star Star athletes including Lebron James Diana Terachi speaking with host Maverick Carter Newsom said the laws about addressing the power imbalance between student athletes in the schools that profit if it off their skills when you put pen to paper right now what's going to change and what's it. GonNa do it's going to initiate dozens of other states introduced similar legislation relation and it's going to change college sports for the better by having now the interest finally of the athletes on par with the interests of the institutions states such as Florida South Carolina and New York are considering similar proposals. Some critics say the new law will mainly help elite athletes at top universities land big endorsement endorsement deals but former. UC Berkeley rower in two time Olympic gold medalist Erin Cafaro says it could benefit many college players who aren't in the limelight especially female athletes elites for a lot of women's sports. This is the end of the line right. This is the peak of their athletic competition. We're doing it for the love of the sport but but if there's an opportunity for us to have some sort of you know financial support then I'm all for that the NCWA previously said California schools this could be banned from championships if the law passed but newsom said the association can't afford that for N._p._R. NBA Board Of Governors to vote on three potential rule changes

"NBA board of governors expected to pass rule changes for. Next season changes include resetting the shot clock after an offensive rebound to fourteen Seconds instead of resetting the shot clock to twenty four seconds ESPN NBA analyst Chris herring and Frank is Sola discuss the changes on the jump with amino acid Chris, I like it personally because I think like like just said. There it speeds up stuff a little bit I honestly. Think one of the most exciting games a lot of times are. The ones where you get a, kick out, three or someone, tips the ball out and it just changes, the momentum of. The game so much anyway I really liked the idea of actually doing that as long as they're not losing if you get, an early shot up in the clock that you're, not losing time from having the clock resets said that instantly two shots giving him. On mine reality heat Tim Thomas against the Lakers and then Robert Yeah come out instantly and there's more big shots hit, on, those scramble plays off, of long threes I like the rule from this standpoint let's say on. Down, by one the other team gets the rebound they offensive rebound with twenty seconds left now automatically So now Free throws and it makes it more. Strategy, fending now, you know you have six seconds if you can get them on. A stop I think it's a smart rule by the league and it moves things along and then eliminates free throws which. Nobody likes Ward will vote on the. Changes at a meeting. In September
