"Tell us about this decision that you've made to write it in this way but the other thing that one everything was move on rose which is definitely a show that is on broadway. Currently i saw moulin rouge with our mutual fried matt whitaker. This is one of those things about being like a fan of broadway and like actors knowing everything that they put on the fucking stage eight performances a week right like you cannot deny that everyone is putting their heart into all of their work in like a show that sure but i don't think it's a i mean honestly time it's described to me the amount of songs that are like sandblasted into this show. Here's firework by the way i can buy now. That's what i call music for on my own time. I don't need to like go pay. But like i do have to say the suspense of whether or not erin today. What actually walk away with the aboard. When they could have feasibly nominated him he was the only nominee and then not giving him the award based on the sixty percent of votes. You need to actually claim the award which those stressful and yet then when he won. I was like wait. This is so boring so anyway it was like he was in a vice. That's about these. Awards is to sort of like i do think that the todi voted bodies should be shake it up because of like move on for be felt so vegas is specifically engineered for towards broadway and like yes you need a show like that to keep broadway charting the coins but all you had so many speeches with people all night. Big like imploring broadway to like do something that represents anybody else Just to see like every fucking award like in the musical category like to go to moulin rouge is a sort of like you're not even trying Are you you're not. it's though so lazy. Yeah i think. I mean just what you mentioned earlier idea that the nominating bodies so much more diverse than the people who actually get to vote on. What is such a fascinating duality. I have questions about that. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me but moulin rouge is going to be a rom. I do plan on seeing. And i'm going to have a good time and you will get thousands of pop songs that i think are still like do. Do they change out songs and bring them in like his intimate singing. Good for you yet. I'm sure they'll do a fresh update you know and then also I don't know i didn't see a christmas carol. So that kept cleaning up and of course our friend. Diablo cody one for the book for jagged. Little yeah you know what remains jarring to me about that musical because we got to see a performance from jacob on the main telecast is that for me the power of jagged little pill that every song is so like. It's not just an angry album. It really is this gamut of emotions. There's some like songs about gratefulness or romance or obviously ironic is its own category of song and yet they all belong to one woman like really feel like one person showing you as many sides of their personalities they can and then when you watch the show and again i've not seen the show so this is not me judging the show again my friend fucking wrote the show. I'm not here to do the show. It's weird because they give the songs to everybody and that's also like the point of like american idiot and stuff too but it's it's interesting. What's left of the album's appeal when you're not just hearing them all from one voice. Do i still like it as much. I can't really tell you know Yes it's not that. Carole king musical okay right carols like i wrote. 'this will be thinking up a whole different experience though which is like like what i like about that concept is that i feel like. They just leaned into the idea that this is going to be completely different from the album. It's going to be completely different from a listener and it speaks that whole idea. That all of this is relatable rate. Which i think for br and broadway camp abounds like just leaning all the way in abounds and so it's like oh it's a very different experience. We might get more. We might get last. There's something for everyone in that anything. There's something really nathan exciting about that. So i was kind of happy to just hear. That was still around in doing well. I had heard about it a few years ago. I a new. It's exciting to me. It's an exciting show. I love the concept of like a classic. Ninety s album is like now repurpose as a classic broadway cast recording that leg. A different generation of like gays zubaydah been listening to like the in the nineties. Maybe they're listening to this We're theater kids And that's exciting for me like you mentioned american idiot. You know. there's so many things like that you know it's like they are now also like a broadway october. You can hear it is this right. Yeah something that. I think was fascinating though in the main. Cbs telecaster we watched basically every living broadway legend. Give a performance of one kind or another. The beginning of it was dominated by shows and performances. That our old pop songs repurpose for broadway audiences. So like you had david byrne doing burning down the house. The famous talking heads song Moulin rouge lady marmalade performed. And i have to say it to me was not a glistening advertisement for what broadway is now just because it does feel like. You're listening to your old ipod a lot of the time. Yeah i get it and like david bird is like jesus fucking love him. Yeah yeah but it really does. That's part of my problem with milan. Route you know. I feel like the theater. We grew up. A you know you're hearing original compositions and songs and lyrics from like creators..

"All the kids get vaccinated. I guess me too. Yeah i would really like that. That would be nice. Yeah and you know. I hope they sneak get vaccinated if their parents won't let that just like you sneak and get the abortions girls get the vaccination. I forgot. Actually we were talking about the youth not getting vaccinated that the toxic parents could be responsible for this awful and this has been on my mind because in my hometown of lemont illinois. Our high school. Which i've talked about this on the show before i think with diablo cody who was also from my hometown. That we were called the lamont. Engines was our mascot. I j. u. n. s. And they've changed it eventually. To which she she mocked herself in the movie young adult they have the sweatshirts with that on it. There was a vote to they finally changed it to indians in two thousand five or so. Oh i know. I know we win. I know sigh of relief. But they phased out over the years and they had a vote officially to get rid of it and people blew up like the karen showed up and start yelling and shame on you and you represent means stuff. It's like man. Older people are just so defensive of the worst parts of their personality. Like if you change them you've killed them. Essentially if we know that from oh yeah. Life january sixth anything. We talked millennials. We couldn't celebrate october third anymore. My thing about mean girls is we have no touchstones of the two thousand so we cling to that to have something from that era. Because if we didn't have that what from two thousand and four would we still be thinking about. And the answer is only yeah by usher. That's takes about girls now a little bit. What do you mean you're like me girls. No no no. I enjoy it. it's just. We've clearly expired value. I think it's sort of like if after clueless came out it was all we talked about for ten years. That's fair that's all we have. I think american. India came out in two thousand and american nudie around the same time. Yeah again miss olivia rodrigue. I want her to continue to wear outfits like that while she kroons about being sad. I liked that drexel position given me blair waldorf cry about love it all right. Following that post this morning that Sam put on Instagram stories. He told TMZ today that he quote hopes he can be on good terms of Jamie Spirits. One day quote once he starts treating his daughter, right? Maybe Britney made him a like counter offer. Ooh, I like this. I don't know, but raised TMZ, Kata. Whatever he's paying you. "25 this year featured in the female buddy comedy book Smart Last year. Taylor Swift has performed it with you on tour. I know women who claim It's either the best carioca song of all time or just perhaps the greatest song of all time. I just want to. I want to kind of Why? What does that give people? Why do you think that song is injured? Mission to feel, ma'am, Um I For me, It's the devastation and the rage is the combination. You know so many times we're taught it anything you feel filter through anger, right? Every other motion is dangerous, especially for me when I was younger sadness. Anger fear. Also was one that wasn't that welcomed so That song was just me being afraid. Sad, Devastated, raging out of, you know Out of my eyes, Encik. So, so, basically when I perform it, I just feel like it gives people permission to be that permission to be devastated. And if all that entirely when I went to see the show, I got to see jagged little pill. I got to see it and it was so powerful and completely involuntarily every night, there's a standing ovation. After that song and after that performance of that song when you are in the audience, and you're not singing it, But you're in the audience watching it. Do you understand the power of it differently? Yes, because it's the first time I have objectivity and receiving the song. What do you notice? Uh, I mean, I I feel like I'm in the alley is being given permission to feel it's also being taken into a story where there's different genders and different perspectives. Singing these lyrics and infusing them and imbuing them with a whole other meaning for young men. Let's say, or husband Mary Jane is sung through a male voice, so During rehearsals and workshops. I was sobbing and weeping just could not stop crying. Listening to these songs being performed in the musical director Tom Kitt would come up behind me and Push my shoulders down because I'd be I'd be shaking. I think the objectivity certainly, but also just really feeling and hearing these songs for what Felt like the first time I wasn't mean monologist sing them. It was me. Receiving them. It's pretty amazing. I mean, sure, if the cast wasn't nervous enough to have to sing your songs in front of you to look out and see you sobbing, you must be going on. My God, This is not going very well. Diablo, Cody and I Whenever we would, she wrote the book the any time we see each other or talk with each other. We're crying We're holding, holding each other and sobbing basically. So, uh, Yeah, I think I got a glimpse of objectivity. Really every for me and so sacred everything that's gone on jagged little pill and before and after, But it's not precious because songwriting is like a quick snapshot, you know, And then when I perform any of these songs on stage or now when I'm receiving them It's a dialogue of energy and just saying, Yeah, we can feel we can feel this one. We can feel this one. We could feel the three at the same time. But But how? I mean, there's that many pieces of art that I could look out into a crowd around me and see people and I was looking at people on going like there's no way you were born with this record came out. There's no way you were born with his record came out. There's no way maybe your parent was born with this record came out. And And You are being moved by this music like that, And that is Not a lot like that Atlantis. There's not a lot like it. Mm. Wow. Yeah, I have a hard time wrapping my head around a lot of it, but I do know that as an M path. You know when I write these songs there for myself, certainly. And then as soon as I share them publicly, they're not mine anymore. They're yours, so use them to use them any time you want anytime, day or night in the car, middle of conflict after repair before conflict, Whatever you want all Rex in the fact that It was supporting people on their unique journeys, and it was the soundtrack of a kind for them. That's what kept me going back to the service word again if it were just fame, and it were just that white hot heat. Zeitgeist bubble. I don't think I would have been sustainably interested, but because of what was being offered to people in terms of mercy and empathy and validation and understanding. An inspiration. I mean, yeah, I'll keep writing until I'm dead and gone and probably after..
