"Of the scientific community. Yes so they commissioned the national academy of science to to go undergone investigation and twenty and nineteen. And even by that time people that understood things like acoustic or possible acoustic attacks or just acoustics basically said this wasn't some kind of sonic attack. It's you know it is possible that you can focus a sound beam to an area but you would have to truck in some equipment that so big the fbi would have found it And even if they manage to do that and get away with it There were so many different symptoms going on with these people. It can't all be explained away by an acoustic attack and let's say that even happened. It definitely wouldn't cause brain damage like the worst acoustic wouldn't call somebody brain damage. No so really. There's two ways because here's the other thing. People said heard a weird sound or whatever but it wasn't necessarily some like they were clearly being attacked by the sound. That wasn't what they reported. They just some of them. Said i heard weird sound first. And then all of a sudden they have these weird symptoms. That's what gave rise to the sonic attack theory. But there's basically two ways to attack people with sound especially on the can't hear it's either below our threshold of hearing which is in for sound uh-huh what. I was trying to make a yoko ono joke. But that's the third route. She combines the two Infer sound is below our threshold below twenty hertz. Right and you actually can cause things like vertigo in somebody or vomiting Law so bowel control. If you hit somebody with a loud enough infra sound blast but like you said you. Yeah you can make someone pooped their pants with infra sound but you would have to basically like you said truck in just this huge rack of sub woofers and shoot it right at somebody to make them lose control of their bowels. Like it would be very obvious that that this is being done you. You can't use as as moving forward any low. I still will. Okay alter sound above our threshold of hearing or twenty kilohertz and above you you. There is stuff on the market that you can you can. Actually you know direct at somebody beam of ultrasound in in. you know. hurt their hearing. But you're not gonna cause vertigo or anything like that and to really like 'cause major symptoms or something approaching a concussion or traumatic brain injury which some of these people were diagnosed with There was a scientist who said i think his name is. Joseph pompey's psycho acoustics expert which is awesome. He said that you would basically have to dip your head in a pool lined with Ultrasound ultrasonic transducers to to get like actual brain damage from that so that didn't happen anybody So again they said sonic attack but it must have been some sort of exotic weapon that even the cia is in aware of all right. I think good time for a break. Yes i agree because stick our head in a in a pool of ultrasonic transducers. Can't wait to see what happens around. Poop my.

Why The 90's Was The Decade Of The SuperCar

"To pass gas. I'm your host known sites trying to always by james pump. Frey hello there. Everyone it is i james and not an pasta and joe weber. What's up wink wink nation. I'm here for you. And i am fired up and as as the boys have been Saying we are talking about ninety supercars today on this episode. We were talking before we started. Recording i think like we're a little bias as far as the nineties. Being the greatest time for supercars that's like saying like the nineties is the best time for cartoons. Yes because that's when joe and i grew up at least win win. Did you grow knowing how old a year you're six years six years old Yeah i mean born in ninety three so like my k- yeah you're the first time when you realize supercars where thing was in the nineties. I sure i heard third eye blind on the radio is what you're saying about three eleven. Her three eleven to okay got it. So like like the diablo's the labor gyn machines. Those are big big parts of your formative years for sure. Yeah now supercars are a lot more prevalent. Yeah i feel like within the last ten years like it's blew up again. But i feel like the nineties really set the president the president the president and showed what was possible and kind of like blew the whole supercar thing out of the water because we had just come out of the malays era and people were like. I want something fast and flashy and purple and green are really cool right now so. Let's just make cars like debt for sure. And i think you know from the sixties to the eighties like cars. That would be considered supercars today. I mean there are just called sports cars you know. Yeah 'cause they were. They were really fast. Yeah not the ninety s great supercars because it literally defined that genre. That's when he started seeing like dance materials carbon fiber the. That's it that's it really for me only carbon-fiber that's the only qualifier. I think we should just get right into it. Yeah let's go. let's go so so. How did we get to the nineties. Being the definitive era of supercars the term supercar itself isn't really official it. Roughly describes a high performance. Luxury or exotic. Sports car generally a two seater with at least an eight cylinder engine. Although that'll probably change here the trend towards these vehicles started as far back as the sixties when detroit started shoehorning big block. v8's into sedans and turning the results loose on the american public and of course we know those as muscle cars across the atlantic european manufacturers were also busy refining. their lightweight. sports cars what. These smaller cars lacked in displacement and seating they made up for easily in handling and driveability as a sixties turned into the seventies. Those massive motors became liabilities with the looming gas crisis and clean air act of nineteen seventy then the second oil crisis in nineteen seventy nine. The industry yet again. An american cars continued to get smaller and more efficient manufacturers in the. Us knew they had to do something. So they're carburetors. Were replaced by fuel injection and distributors being swapped for coil packs. But we weren't there yet after all the one thousand nine hundred. Five corvette made her on the same horse. Power as a well-equipped twenty twenty. Camry the so-called malays era when autos reached a low point of reliability and performance was in full swing. New emissions equipment was starving the motors of their power. And even in the instances where these new cars had style. The eighty-five corvette being a prime example was under. The hood didn't match up that being said the eighties were still an impressive decade for supercars. Just not in the united states. American consumers still reeling from the death of the muscle car scene started looking abroad for inspiring performance. Every decade is a reaction to the one that came before in the eighties shoved back. The seventies with an absolute explosion of high performance supercars a handful of imported performance. Cars like the lamborghini coon tash for testarossa and the lotus esprit were blowing enthusiasts minds and with the stock market. Looking like pikes peak. There were selling faster than cocaine in wall. Street bathrooms by the nineties. A lot of that pesky emissions tech that was thrust on manufacturers was starting to get smarter as we're onboard computers and fuel injectors the progressing technology let engines breathe better and pass their gases in ways. That didn't starve the performance. Nice if you if you like stories like this check out. Our podcast passed gas. Celebrities enrich folks. Were having a hard time justifying spending big bucks on stiff bucket seats and jarring track suspension setups and manufacturers took the hint burr example lamborghini spent the late eighties upgrading. The coon tauch into the diablo. The coon tosh is often derided for having a borderline unusable only tight interior that overheats quickly so they lengthened diablo to improve the comfort ability in the cabin. The word is this comfort. Yeah right after ability never heard of that. Is that a diablo right there. This is a blow right here and it's purple too. Yeah that's the blister. That i had

Vicarious Visions might be working on Blizzard's Diablo II remake

"Bloomberg reports. Mike irritations has been working with blizzard. Since since twenty. Twenty on the diablo franchise including a plan remake of diablo. That made the poorly-received warcraft three re forged and before that mobile flop heroes of the storm in real time strategy real time strategy game starcraft two but blizzard gave the diablo to remake to the team behind the aga four instead and now a group bike areas. Visions is also working on it ascertain one. It seems to have been quietly disbanded with some interviewing for jobs within blizzards and others leaving for independent studios.

Vicarious Visions reportedly working on a Diablo 2 remake at Blizzard

"For me. The story of the week is vicarious visions rolled in spink succumb to the blizzard. Avalanche of the blizzard ebay. They need to plow basically. They need good that name again. It's fist blow to dig them out Most recently they made tony hawk one and two which i rave about last year absolutely phenomenal Release of those games. Did the crash release as well and i just outstanding studio. In my opinion. I think track record of just hits in working on some great games in now Based on the press release that came out it appears as if they are going to be a support studio for the larger blizzard instead of like. Hey go make a new ip or go work on this franchisor or elite on this they. It seems like we'll be one of the many studios you see as you're waiting to get to the title screen of a gay or when the credits are rolling. You're like how many people worked on this in support of i blizzard game. So i guess diablo's or unannounced Helping ship overwatch to maybe. But it's kind of a bummer. I think that team seem super talented. And it this seems kind of unceremonious to me. Well the rumor is that vicarious visions has been working on a diablo to re master for quite a while and that blizzard was so dissatisfied with the warcraft. Three re master which received a lot of hype and was Was a disappointment. i think. I think there's only one way to describe it. It was a disappointment to fans. It was a disappointment to the studio when it released it. Had a bunch of problems and I think they the rumor is that they wanted to date. Being blizzard. wanted to avoid a repeat of that kind of scenario and we're using vicarious visions to work on the diablo two remastered which is unannounced. Chat is saying remake is what they're polite yes. Pardon me remake. These terms should be precise and i. It's my mistake for nelson. Hasn't been out so we don't really know i mean with warcraft. Three was a master. S diablo to remake would be pretty exciting but yes supposedly that was handed over to the four-team and then than they brought in vicarious visions to offload that work as work on the before ramped up and They're they're calling it. Diablo two resurrected all again all of this rumor. But if that's the case super excited obviously victorious visions. Very good at these kinds of remakes. These kinds of taking old games and making them look gorgeous on modern technology so as a huge fan of the oslo to very excited about that prospect. Be i get what you're saying christian about it. Being a bit of a bummer. To to hear that they will no longer be the lead developer on any kind of game creation. Rob you Inside a developer. All the time what. What is your your take on. This is the kind of thing that would be disheartening to a group to to visions themselves or do they see it as potentially an opportunity to probably a little bit of both The thing that bums me out. The most is sort of losing vicarious visions v as it's colloquially known in the games industry as as a brand like air studio that has a very long history. They've been around for a very long time. One of the few coast studios in albany new york which is rare So them to sort of lose their identity and just become you know a blizzard new yorker or whatever blizzard east Is just a bummer. Just from just from a name standpoint It does. I mean they do good work though so i think ultimately for the security of the people working the studio is probably a good thing it ensures longevity that those people will have jobs and projects at work on whether or not. It's the projects that those folks were hoping to work on if they were developing internally typically studios are always trying to develop things internally especially smaller studios sports support studios. They wanna like make their own. Ap eventually that's probably the goal of every studio. Imagine sure and so losing that for now. is probably. There's probably some stink to it. But i would also say like if they continue to prove themselves doing this. There's no reason why. I wouldn't think that they might be handed. Something in the future that may be as a blizzard. Ip and maybe they make a new game with one of those ip's

David Dinkins, New York's first Black mayor, dies at 93

"Former new york city mayor. David dinkins passed away last night at the age of ninety three. Join now but the reverend al sharpton president the next action network and host of politics nation. Right here on. Msnbc and rev. i've met david dinkins in person because you. I met him through you. I think he was here to do at thirty rock to do an interview for your show. And i'm so excited to meet him. He was such a great man. What are you remember. most about David dinkins well. I knew david dinkins. Since i was a teenager when i was sixteen and started my national youth movement group. He was the lawyer that incorporated us and down through the years. We maintain the relationship. And sometimes i would argue would on call them names and one hundred be more strident and it took time to understand that. He had such grace even under the most tumultuous circumstances and i felt he should be more strident. He said al. You have to learn how to get the job done. Keep your eye on the prize. But i most remember. Is that when we were facing a police. Killing of a young man named ahmadou diablo. Who in the hell of forty one bullets was killed. Nine thousand nine hundred bullets for only gone in his debut. Stick in a key in the door and the police thought. They said they thought he had a weapon. He was just going home. They were looking for someone else and david dinkins. When we started protests every day we would go down to the police headquarters. The main one in new york and sit in and hundreds would be arrested. He called me one. One is at what time y'all have. The demonstrations was a former. I said ten in the morning. he's coming down. I said but we're getting arrested. He's out seeing the morning and he came down and went to one police plaza where he had been mayor and got on a knee way before colin cabinet. He took a knee and was arrested and had them cuffed him with congressman. Charlie rangel and himself and me and we went to jail fighting police reform that he started with that civilian complaint review board. He never left the struggle. He was not wanting to be loud and boisterous but he was firm and made real change happen. Yeah absolutely you know. We started off and we could see charlie rangel and james brown. Lots of people in the photos that are that. I don't know if you can see them. That are coming up as as you're talking and you know we started off by talking about the way that dinkins was taken out of office by rudy. Giuliani this rage. That giuliani stoked already. There in the police against what mayor dinkins wanted to do which was changed policing. I feel like we're kind of having a rerun of that conversation about black lives matter about whether or not police should be free to kill it will in black communities. He tried to do something about it. Wouldn't you take from that fight. Is it dispiriting to think that after great men like this have tried after. You've tried after we've had all of these movements. We're still fighting about this were you. Were you fight you win. You don't fight to say the fight is over in a certain amount of rows. This is not pro boxing wrestling. You fight to you win and every struggle has had long struggles. I remember when nelson mandela gain which you mentioned then david dinkins had me as potted group. That went to the un with him. And just jackson. All of us. And when i thought about it took nelson mandela being jailed. Twenty seven years after fighting many decades around the pon-tae. How can we complain about fighting. We fight to. We win knowing that the victory is certain. And that's what they dickens would always say and as i want more national from new york activism. He said you still fighting. Now keep fighting. He come down national action network rallies. In fact he was there just a few months ago. We had his ninetieth birthday there and we never forgot this. Gentle giant had a had a spine of steel. And he didn't need to be boisterous he just needed to be effective and he was the one that broke that ceiling and made people know you could be the ceo of the biggest city in the world and perform. He revitalized times square. He started this whole community policing and in many ways you are more than correct. Joy is almost like to study donald trump. You have to study rudy giuliani. They took credit for things then get predecessor did and they used race to try and rev up a political career that ended up embarrassing them at the end. Indeed amen. thank you reverend now. It's always great to talk with you. Revenue sharpen. Thank you very much. I

What Is Ormus

"Or miss. Is. Actually, kind of a known entity. Yes. A non-proprietary term four miracle serum, Gu. I've already said when we mentioned Ormuz before every time I said, I want to say almost because I'd only ever heard that term in the video game Diablo two by blizzard, the makers of world of Warcraft, and also you know the world of sanctuary, which is where the abloh takes place a one of my all time favorite games just in case you haven't played it. It's amazing. There's a character named almost lives in the city of traveling call and he refers to himself in the third person and he sends you on and stuff. You. Know speak. To. Office. You have questions for homes, US and doubt in yourself. But that is neither here. Nor there one fun thing about Diablo's that as you would pick up various weapons and staffs and stuff, you would learn little terms that you wouldn't have learned elsewhere. So I learned a lot of vocabulary and history in playing the album to and it. Just, never looked up or missed to find out where his name came from. But feels now like it's kind of appropriate because or miss is as sort of ill defined miracle Goo. Different companies and different people will sell. We are in particular going to be talking about on new alchemies. ORMUZ. In this episode and a couple other on who elk meat products. Yeah. Onto alchemy was the booth that we saw out the consciously expo and they were selling this. But yeah, ormuz itself seems to at least as far as the mythos surrounding it goes seems to go back to ancient Egypt Cleopatra Bathed in what she called milk and so they hypothesize Oh was actually and that's what kept her so beautiful young, right they being alchemy I've seen at mentioned on other sites so. As, well, they'll also mention Manna from heaven. Ancient Hebrews described that that was actually Ormuz, which is weird because that's not milk but I guess it can be kind of a solid and a liquid form. So it's kind of like one of those placeholder terms like we know there was a thing called Ambrosia of the Gods. Okay. Well, now, I wanNA make a recipe and call it Ambro Asia of Youth Right Ruth Serum Lemba Bread Lennon this bread that's from Lord of the rings that's their that's their answer to Mana. Okay. Okay. But then you wonder, Oh, how do I make this? Like what is. This hour do the mystical mystical Brad Wonderful Miracle Bread. Yeah, and some of these sites will define. As being orbital's rearranged Mon-. Atomic elements which almost arm o r m e can me the the Connections or Mrs this product of the Al Chemical Process, and it's tied to the the secret of extending life in the whole orbital early rearranged monitoring element. So Amman atomic substance is one where the atoms are not touching each other essentially. More than they are. The person using the word. Sure of. Gas. It means like you know all of these individual atoms are floating free and they're not bonded to each other. So the idea here is that this is gold that has been monitoring -ly separated so that each individual particle just has one gold atom within it. Okay. Sure and it's supposed to be a white powder but nobody that we're GonNa talk about today is actually using gold or doesn't seem to be as far as we know or even claims to be as far as I can tell us gold to create the substance. Yeah. So yeah, the company on Alchemy I don't think ever claims. that it is gold nor to they use organised to stand for that weird thing as far as I know. But yeah, I mean if you try to Google or Miss, you will get a bunch of companies and people making this thing at their little recipes. Yeah. They all have special things to offer about their arm right so it seems like the basic format is you take some neutral water, but then you add a bit of a an alkaline solution. So usually I see sodium hydroxide lye and four onto alchemy they're adding magnesium hydroxide. So it's slightly less basic, but it's like a milk of. Magnesia the kind of substance that would be used to help you digestive problems and then other places they'll add a bit of Dead Sea salt or they'll add a bit of Frankencense or whatever it is. They're adding some extra little material in there that makes it their special formulation of ormuz. So as you mentioned, we're going to zero in on this company on Alchemy we've mentioned the word Alchemy and chemical a few times here case you haven't heard that term before it's this very old idea that you could make gold out of something that isn't gold now chemical mixture and now decker cain would. Say it. Now, it can be used sort of a little left of center that original definition it will be any magical creation from things that shouldn't add up what you end up with. Yes. So originally, alchemy was just chemistry before anybody had a really good handle on it, and then starting around the sixteen hundreds when we actually started to figure a few things out, we I mean humans alchemy just became kind of the last bastion of these people thought you could do all these mystical things like prolong life indefinitely or turn simple substances into gold of course, everybody wants to make gold out of nothing. That, we can ruin its value. That's right. Yeah. So we can flood the market

Resistance And Loss In The Age Of COVID-19 With Edwidge Danticat

"So tweets you talked about how all of these protests that you're seeing. Have really brought up a lot of memories because you grew up in Brooklyn after you arrive there when you were twelve and. People forget that in the eighties and nineties, and I covered these stories New York. City was a very divided place. So you brought up the murder in one thousand, nine, hundred nine of Yusef Hawkins. He was a young black teenager who was killed by a mob of white teenagers in Benson Hers Brooklyn. He was literally just at the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong neighborhood because he was black. There was also the nineteen eighty-four murder of eleanor bumpers a she was an elderly, disabled black woman who was shot and killed by police when they tried to victor from her own apartment. In the Bronx, there was also this terrible case in nineteen ninety-seven. This was the brutal assault of Abner Louima Haitian, American from Brooklyn. Who is sodomized by a police officer in a precinct in Brooklyn and I`Ma Diablo from Guinea shot at Nineteen Times in a hail of forty-one bullets in Nineteen, ninety nine. You were in Brooklyn. You were in New York City. We have lived through this before and. We thought we had made progress. Yes, actually. Week I've been thinking about it a lot and I have spoken about it to my three brothers I was twenty years old when Yusef Hawkins was murdered Yusef Hawkins. Was For me the first time that I started following very closely and part because he was the same age as one of my brothers and. Immigrant parents, not all but many. My grandparents harbor this illusion that if they're black. US borne or foreign born child is polite. Works hard in school does all the right thing that they might be able to. Escape. The brunt of American racism. But for my parents that case. Did something. My parents and myself for the first twelve years of my life I had grown up under booth dictatorship to develop dictatorship in Haiti so there's a kind of caution about authority, then about Filante is about mobs, and so you come with that with that fear already, but I remember after USA faulk inside I decided my brothers and I were going to the protests. There was a big marks. I think September one thousand, nine, hundred nine in downtown, Brooklyn, where they were attempting to cross the bridge to march to city hall, and I remember looking over at them during the march and thinking, would I be marching for them one big? So, of course that whole notion of the good, immigrant, being exempt from police violence, war-shattered by the police shooting of people like I'm a Dr Low. And then there was the atrocious abuse of Abner Louima so all of that. You know we marched lot. Even my parents, who were not very political people at all went to one of the protests at that time, so it was a very volatile and really urgent seeming time, so there are echoes of the protests then here but now. To see the whole range of different people in young people at this current protests is very encouraging. Was this. Really beautiful image that I saw the other day ever protest in New York of young Haitian and Dominican people marching side-by-side in the protests, and that was so heartening to see like all the coalitions that are built in think of this Maria. We've all been inside our homes for the most part right unless sir. Essential workers. We've been inside and the pandemic that we've been hearing about. That can kill us at his kill so many people I know, but if that couldn't keep people in, when cannot emphasize the urgency of Fatty. NUFF, that everybody who steps out on the street is saying that this is so important that I'm potentially risking my health to stand out on the street and protest. You brought up those recent images of the Haitian flag right next to the Dominican. And these protesters linking arms in a message that is saying you know black lives matter so, what are you thinking in terms of Latinas? Data Latina ex people and the conversation about anti blackness that runs deep in Latin America, and the Caribbean well. Thankfully, the young people are already having that conversation right, but I I would say to folks. My folks might people is that we are seeing and we have seen what entire blackness does from this very concrete moment? Of this man being suffocated on the ground to people being shot in their cars when they're pulled over people being shot in the back and the stories that we don't see, but here about if the. Sandra Bland woman who was found dead in a Texas jail sale three days after being arrested during a traffic stop, we saw at the beginning of the end of her life. "Animal. Crossing is a game that came out at the beginning of all this lockdown nonsense that we are taking seriously and is not nonsense whatsoever and where you inhabit human and the town of animals and you can catch fish you can you can. You can grow trees of Fruit. You can go into debt to a raccoon and tell everyone where to live because no one can make a decision except you. I think that's pretty accurate. And also you can fish in it which is Germane to the current conversation. Yeah and also takes place entirely in real time. Yeah it's real time based meeting. Every day is counted as a day in. Munster counted as months. This is a rudimentary explanation. The point being that tomorrow as April first and that means that's a new month and so a bunch of insects and a bunch of fish are going to go away because March has ended. Wait hold on which insects go away the Emperor Butterfly. I don't remember any of the other ones. I'm sorry okay. I think I've got that butterfly. I think I've got that butterfly on lock. Yeah what makes me a little sad as a animal crossing from just the Cultural Zeitgeist on twitter that I have been plugged into some Sasol started. They've been talking about animal. Crossing being this nice relaxing game or you can like kick your feet up. Catch a few fish trade in apron to a deer and get like a tracksuit and return. It's like this nice relaxing time and then all of a sudden yesterday everyone started freaking out because now a fish is gonna go away until December. Yes Oh nine months before you can catch the fish again unless you travel to. Someone who's island is in the Southern Hemisphere. That's an entire baby. John. It isn't entire baby. It's a long time and maybe this is the speaks to maybe a larger philosophical point about animal crossing. But I remember so the first animal crossing when it came out I was a crushingly into I played that game basically every day for like three years. Wow wait the one that came out on the Gamecube. Yeah I did basically everything in the original animal crossing. While was there even to do in the original animal crossing. You know amazingly pretty much exactly the same things there are to do in the new one. That's kind of interesting because the new one and seems like it's newer. It's newer I mean in the original animal crossing. You couldn't travel to other towns as easily. I guess really. It's largely the same except they end crafting but I did pretty much everything in that but when that came out I was a child and now as a fully fleshed man yes as a man of as a man of full flesh as an adult of thirty. I start to wonder now about animal crossing because I'm having significantly less fun and I think a lot of it has to do with like a fear of missing out like if I don't catch this fish I'm not going to be able to have suspicion for nine months Whereas when I was a child those things didn't enter. My mind is like things to be worried about. Yeah I think it's really interesting right now because I played I guess the one that was on the way. I think it was called city folk. And there's a similar thing in that game whereas as the months change different bugs different fish show up and disappear etcetera but now in the wake of this this corona virus landscape where like two months ago. I had diagnosed idea that this is where we would be an effort rooms talking over a voice only Internet p. And like practicing social distancing Texas almost heading toward a lockdown and whatnot so like in nine months what what. What's the world going to be like when I can catch the string fish again and I think maybe that has something to do with people's mania about this fish which by the way? Quick fish tip. I think you can only catch it at the top of a cliff so you need a ladder to get thank Ray The the string fish for those of you. Who Don't know and this is going to be completely useless to you. When this comes out but I can only be caught on the clifftop rivers so if you have an elevated platform or a plateau near the river on your quipped to Catch Yourself. String fish But I think that's something that's pretty interesting that's happening and this is true not only in as as Germane to animal crossing but his true pretty much for everybody is the number of things that we have to care about now is actually pretty significantly truncated. Because we've taken most social obligations out of the sphere of things that we actually need to worry about. So I think honestly if you looked at things I could worry about or could be doing before everything happened it numbered and maybe the low hundreds but now I think the things I have to worry about is maybe eight and one of those things is animal crossing so I worry about a lot more than I would otherwise. Yeah I mean. Remove me from the situation that we're currently in number one. I wouldn't own animal crossing. Yes same probably. Yeah I wouldn't have gone bought this game if I didn't no. I was going to be locked in my apartment for the unknowable future. I would have skipped it over for. I don't know another game Really I only purchased it because I knew what was coming. I was like Oh. This'll be a welcome distraction. But even though I was deeply in love with the original animal crossing and I played the one on the D. S. new leaf. Maybe yeah I think that what was called New Leaf But whatever the DS was I played that But other than that I have not purchased or cared about animal crossing since the release of whatever the second one was so I would not have purchased this game where we not in this situation so really I think without what's going on right now. Neither of US would be this invested in the lives of our animal villagers

"From Cutie in just a few weeks our world has profoundly changed the way we are living working and getting. Our News looks different. You might be listening to. Npr at the breakfast table instead of on the train or asking Alexa for the news. Instead of your car radio wherever you're listening kqed.org is here for you. Ask Your Smart Speaker to play cake. You Eddie subscribe to our podcasts or download. The APP on your phone for our twenty four seven livestream everyone. Olivia Allen Price here and I just wanted to pop in before we start this week's episode with a quick note about how curious is going operate for the next few months. Our plan is to bring you a mix of the kind of stories that you know us for interesting stories about the bay area mixed in some topical episodes about Corona Virus. We offer you escape when you need it. But also give you the answers to the corona virus. Questions that you're asking. We are answering those questions. All the time at kqed.org with the help of our other colleagues at Cutie. There really is a lot there so check that resource out if you haven't yet all right on with the show. Mount Yobbo is the bay area's grandest landmark. It's often the first glimpse of home that you'll see after a long drive. It stands apart from other mountains nearby. Not just because of its prominence because of the legends. That surround it. The baby try believed the mountain is sacred that it is the central point of the world's creation were man was made. But it's a different story that caught the attention of Listener. Mark Isaac. I've heard that the spot on the earth from which you can see the most land not just ocean but actual land is the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro but that the summit of Mount Diablo comes in second. Is that true marcus legend so long ago? That can't remember where it came from. But he's not alone. Lots of you have heard this story and it does seem possible. Mount Yobbo is an isolated peak. It's a lot taller than everything else around it. So even though there are lots of taller mountains they might not have as big of you because other mountains get in the way from the top of Diablo you can see from the Pacific Ocean all the way across the state to the Sierra but second-biggest view in the world really. Today we're going to find out if Mount Diablo's view deserves so remarkable and accolade. I'm Olivia Allen Price. This is bay curious support for K. Q. E. D. comes from Sierra Nevada. The mystery of the view from Mount. Diablo is a romantic one steeped in local legend to find out. If it's true I drove to the source itself. Six hundred feet arrive at your destination from the base of the mountain. It takes me about an hour to get to the top. Well took so long. Mount Diablo sits on the eastern edge of the Bay area in Contra Costa County. But you can see. It's double peak pyramid from most spots around the bay at three thousand eight hundred forty nine feet. The mountains view is second to none. Well it's second to one. Maybe we'll find out so the view and you come up. Here is really amazing. How it compares. To Kilimanjaro is up for debate. But I'm kind of partial to the view here from Mount Diablo and I think most people would come pretty amazed by what the view looks like my tour guide today is Sharon Peterson. Mount Diablo state parks interpreter. Which she says means her job is to tell the story of the park. Sharon takes me to the summit's viewing deck. She says the clear day. You can see forty of California's fifty eight counties from here as little as one percent of some of those counties but still this is where we walk out into the wind. I she points West so you can see the Golden Gate Bridge today. You could see both towers with the naked eye and if I give you the binoculars you can probably for sure. She whips them out and there. It is the Golden Gate Bridge Sixty miles away two towers peaking over round top in the Berkeley Hills. That's really really cool. Then we turned north and you can see the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers forming the Delta South. It's a sweeping view of the Diablo range and livermore pleasanton and finally east or through the haze we catch a glimpse of the snow-speckled Sierra rising above the Central Valley over a hundred miles away. And I heard that you can also see Yosemite from here on a clear day you can and with binoculars you can see Sentinel Dome. There is a rumor that you can see half dumb but it's actually blocked by one of the land features in between seeing it for myself. The site is so magnificent so magical that feels like. I'm looking down at a watercolor. The only thing that compares is the view from a plane. Maybe it's possible. The Myth is true. It's absolutely not true. The Mount Diablo has the largest view in the world. Except for Mount Kilimanjaro. Seth Adams is the land conservation director at Save Mount Diablo and he spent a lot of time myth. Seth trace the infatuation with Diablo back to the eighteen fifties and sixties when scientists like Hosea Whitney first geologically surveyed the mountain. That's Jose Whitney of Mount Whitney the tallest mountain in the Sierra Nevada. Jose Whitney road. It is believed that there are few if any points on the earth's surface from which so extensive and area maybe seen as from Mount Diablo the whole area thus spread out can hardly be less than forty thousand square. And so what I'M GONNA do is. I'm going to find the problem. And I'm going to calculate view sheds for lots of other mountains and see how they compare view. Shed is the area visible from a specific vantage point including land or water. Now Remember Whitney speculated Diablo's view shed was about forty thousand square miles but according to earls calculations it's actually between thirteen and twenty one thousand. That might still sound like a lot but from other Taller Mountains. You can see more than three times as much and even for a total non mathematician like me. It kind of makes sense. Mount Kilimanjaro is five times the size of Mount Diablo so diop blow couldn't possibly have a comparable view shed even if it is an isolated peak. He conclusively showed that Diablo View. Shed claim was bogus. But it doesn't really matter because the the claim had already done its work. Mount Diablo became famous became beloved. The Devil's Chord: Satanism in Music

"A look into my eyes. You will see who are my name is Lucifer. Please take my hand. Those lyrics from a song called neighb- recorded by Black Sabbath in one thousand nine hundred seventy hi I'm FAO Hsun and today. We'll talk about satanism. In Popular American Music Wikipedia Satanism page states the following prior to the public practice satanism existed primarily as an accusation by various Christian groups toward perceived ideological opponents rather than a self identity religious studies scholars say that the very definition initiative the term has a history of being designation made by people against those whom they dislike. It is a term used for uttering and in the Bible Satan and the word was used as an ordinary noun. Meaning the adversary the terms satanism and Satanist I appear in English and French during the sixteenth century and Satanism didn't become an official religion until nineteen sixty six when the Church of Satan was established by Anton Levay besides being being a philosopher and occultist Levy was a musician who played multiple instruments including the Oregon in addition to his infamous satanic mass album. Other other albums would be released by levay in the nineties. This leveraging of music by the very person who established the Church of Satan made historical sense in context particularly Italy regarding art and entertainment where the concept of Satan has long been used as a symbol of expression. Many classical compositions were said to be vehicle for the the devil particularly due to the use of a specific combination of notes. A unique cord within music itself that was associated with evil. Known as the Devil's record the notes when played together has many other names including Diablo's in New Jersey. GotTa Latin for Devil and music or the devil's interval. The Tri tone the tree and the Flathead v basically. It's a combination of notes that when played together in accord become the musical equivalent of the Hebrew. GBD'S ABC's the court can be found in compositions from Beethoven and Wagner and even jazz composition such as the girl from EPA Nima and the Song Maria from West aside story fender dot com actually gives budding guitarists a tutorial on how to create the devils cord and it serves as a great description of what it is so our read it quote in simple terms tripod or yod is a fifth played. One Fret down to play of latiff with a G.. Power Cord place so your first finger on the third fred of the low e string. That's the root note or the G.. Now put your third finger to frets up on the fifth fret of with the a string. That's the fifth in this case the D. to complete the power cord placed your fourth finger next to your third finger on the next ring over the the destroying. That's the octave of the root note. Another G. strummed together. These three strings create a pleasant sounding. Chord G. D. G.. But but if you take your second finger and played a frat down as a D. Flatt instead of a d. it creates a flat. V when played after the I G or plucked slowly in a g root note G Octave d flat flat v Progression. It creates a dissonant or ugly tone especially with distortion and that that is the devils cord in their infancy. The genres of Blues and Jazz were routinely referred to as the Devil's music partially due to the innate rebellion within the sound and the lyrics themselves but also partially due to an institutionally dehumanized regard of black musicians and black people. In general neural. The devils cord first appeared in rock music when Jimi Hendrix used it in the opening of his classic Song Purple Haze it would later become a staple in the repertoire are black Sabbath. Who are cited as one of the pioneering bands of the heavy metal genre and it would be heavy metal that took the devils cord and ran like a bat out of hell? Oh with it with numerous metal bands. Such as Metallica slipknot and slayer who even named their nineteen ninety eight album. Diab Bula Sin Musica but it was black black Sabbath perhaps more than any other modern band that may the devils core part of American mainstream music the band which like every rock band at at the time was originally rooted in Blues. They first called themselves the Polka Tall Blues Band and then later they call themselves earth it was the latter name Earth Earth that presented a challenge as it was being used by another English group at the same time they were also inspired by nine hundred sixty three horror film called black Sabbath. That started the legendary Boris Karloff. They saw that a local horror movie. Theatre had a line of people waiting to buy tickets and intrigued by the appeal of this type of content. They went ahead head and wrote a song also titled Black Sabbath. The lyrics were based on a horror story and a nightmare. One of the members of the band had these horror movie lyrics combined with the foreboding introduced by the devils core helped the band create an unprecedented experience in music. According to Wikipedia the new sound was a a quote stark contrast to the popular music of the late nineteen sixties which was dominated by a flower power folk music and Hippie culture and an attempt at creating the musical equivalent of horror films and quote the commercial success of this new sound came despite being initially critically panned hand along with marketing stunts such as releasing titles on Friday the thirteen and recording music in dungeons it was clear. The dark side and music was connecting connecting with audiences it would be black Sabbath commercial embrace of the devils cord along with horror and demonic symbolism and themes that influenced every metal act that followed and laid the groundwork for every sub genre from the blackest and truly demonic to grunge to popular bands such as Nirvana van Halen soundgarden and Marilyn Manson

"The Nvidia drawing a called and installed the driver for you but it is fixed to whatever red eye yeah wherever we're stable when the LTS came out whereas now it's going to once you've done that. It's going to be updated to the latest stable version using the stay. They will release updates mechanism like you get things like five Fox. This is true yeah. I think this is fantastic as an owner of several computers that have invidia accounts in them. I'm delighted about this. Yes very good work. I have no insight into how this happened but I'm assuming it probably wasn't that difficult who technically but there was a whole bunch of complicated legal stuff behind the scenes in order to permit redistribution of the drivers as I understand 'em it's in the repository now why he's doing stolen too that you can easily nvidia drivers off towards a comes with Una bunting image so yeah yeah. They said there's a couple of changes right so this one in particular. This change is that the invidia drivers are available in the repository so no change there. We've had that for a while while the difference as as new nvidia drivers come out they will automatically be sa into the archive into the LTS releases the current supported releases so that you always have access to the latest drivers because before you had to you had to add a PPA was it which which had delays drive his published into it right and that was really a staging area where the latest drivers were being in the packaging for those was being tested before they went into whatever the next release of into was but we did have to approach Nvidia full permission to do the second thing which is lean up into nineteen ten the in fact on ninety nineteen eighty-four as well the nvidia drivers are available for install. Dole at the point of you know as you're installing s you can take a box that says give me third party drivers and if you have an Nvidia card you get the drivers but from nineteen ten onwards those drivers actually going to be seated in the Eyeso- image so even if you're doing offline install those nvidia drivers will be available available to you and for that piece we did seek permission from Nvidia that we were able to redistribute drivers on the ice of images and didn't think he was quite nice the couple of the the downstream. I'm distributions obviously vice that advice themselves on I'm so beat the I saw a couple of high weightless to now great thanks to offer that was not yes that was Lennox men elementary and Zarin all all chipped in to a thanks for that so that was lovely to see as well one other advantage teach of not having to use that. PPA anymore is the when I am video. Drivers are published in the open to archive those kernel modules assigned so so it's now possible to have the latest video drivers without having to disciples the cupet now. Something else that I saw today in fact is the a boon to. WFL Is a Meta package. That's being introduced to a boon to specifically to improve approve the experience of a boon to when it's running on wwl which is actually pretty cool but I I didn't meant that there was this they will. They will just go oh package vice tonight and that's quite a it does things like I'm alleged shoe easily files out onto the windows desktop taupin things a lot right yet create shortcuts to utilities or a launch Url's in the default browser in windows from wwl this is an initiative from the foundations team so that you know we can try and smooth those gaps between where you're using a boon to WFL and its interaction with windows impove that is facilitated through W. S. L. View which is the WFL utilities but also that stood up a wiki page which actually describe some neat little tricks you can do to you know get audio working inside. WFL Or connect to graphical applications and things like that so I think this is probably going to evolve. It's one to keep Japan I on so we'll have links to the blog post from Berlin. WHO's in the foundations team has been working on this on also linked to the wikipedia where you can find out more if the tricks and tips of what you can do with. WFL finally exclusively reveal hill able to focus the multi ninety ten is coming into the GP de Micro say is true. I now I'M I. I could obviously tell you all about this myself but I feel like multi might also have something decide how ah yes so they see another. GP Device said they've been making net book style devices for a few years. Now they've St- net Eh crowdfunding the GP deep pocket actually had an option to shit with a Bantu all with windows so always have been to use his back to that campaign and it was was hugely successful. I think GPA would hold the hand up and say they didn't do the greatest job. In terms of how they delivered the open to experience is on those devices and the community picked up the slack there I got involved in the effort and I've images for the pocket and the pocket to have been to to Malta and through that I've established this relationship with them so they've now started sending me engineering samples of their upcoming devices and this is one that's just exiting their crowdfunding at the moment and just starting to be shipped to that backers so I've had one of these for few months and it requires some kind of work so I think we'll have a now for image for that available in the next week. Oh safe for people to come and install services the same form factor as the puck or is is this mike a desktop. Oh now it's smaller. It's a six inch net book style device and it's got some interesting properties because it has an on old style. Vga Paul and H H D my on a serial port on an Ethernet port and lots of USB connectivity and I think what this device Israeli aimed at is network at means that want to you know go to say a router that is down or needs configuring and they have this small device vice they can pull out and they can connect to these things and solve problems. I think it's your own the go trouble-shooting device but actually it's pretty. I'm decent performance for such a tiny gives me and I just saw artist. I'm as the idea that they will be distributing tomato on this device own auto. You've gotten any time someone buys at least Connecticut Tanaka themselves. Yes Oh the way it works is way published a bespoke images bespoke bespoke ISO images for these devices because they require some specific enablement. They're available on our download page also GP at them into that firmware downloads page on their website so people can find them there as well so you'll find them right next to the windows firmware for their devices. That's really cool now. We've got a couple of events. What's the first event mark. The husband is Uber Euorope which is happening at the tents. The thirteenth of October in Sync. Try Try in Portugal. This is true and I'm reliably informed by their organizing committee that the first batch of talks has been accepted and contrary to what I said on the podcast two weeks ago they call for papers is still open an open until the thirty first of July. If you're intending to go to uconn Europe get your Kufa pipe forms filled out mine mytalk has been accepted so I am going to Portugal very cool and then the other event as I'm O- company eighteen which is the nineteen th on the twentieth of all types Manchester at the Pendulum Hotel. Yes and I saw the ticket. Purchasing experience is extremely slick and effortless so I gave the go and it is it's rather fantastic so if if you if you want to support the event and by buying an optional ticket by one now now's a good time to do that and that is the end of the community news events.

"Oh, it's funny to hear it that way. Divorced from images. Sorry. It's the best. We can do. We'll get there. Eventually. It would be a distraction when people are driving. Yeah. The hologram. So this was obviously like the the movie that when Diablo Cody who wrote it became the most famous screenwriter in Hollywood after writing Juno. This was what she wanted to do. This was her this was her peck. She's like, I I wanna make this movie. How did you end up attached to it? I had read the script and they hadn't found a directory yet. I know they were out to a couple of directors. And I just I laughed and cried it was like that kind of script for me. And I growing up I watched movies like heathers and an American werewolf in London, and the howling and these movies that had humor and Akon a whore component to them. And I just I just felt like this is so my wheelhouse. This is so where my seventeen year old self lives. And feels the most spoken to and I just felt like what made the script. So brilliant was that it really was about a very very dysfunctional friendship between two girls, and there was the alpha girl, and there was the not alpha girl, and as someone who is the not alpha girl, it it meant that. I could read this part of needy less Nikki and completely identify with her and understand the idea that you would want to protect your best friend who also is the person who torments you the most that's very female very specific. And might have some male parallel that I'm not you know as aligned to. But I just think there's something about that dysfunction that just like spoke to me. And then I just thought there is an opportunity for a lot of incredible images. And so I had put together this look book that I haven't I don't have a memory of having more fun pudding. This book together for me. It's a long process of. Like just sitting and looking at art books and looking at photography, and and just thinking about about images, and what excites me, and what speaks to me. And putting that together was just like, I don't know. It just like re energized me because I was at a I just made I finished this movie on flex that was considered a disaster. And it was just there's something about reading something. So exciting for me that I just went in there like kind of guns blazing and just said, you can hire whoever you want. But I'm the right person to direct. What were the images in the look book to remember, there's I have this book of horror films that really looked at a lot of the hammer horror films out of England. And there's just this supermodel, basically from the sixties. With blood dripping down her mouth and a kitten hanging out of it. So it's like it's almost like a Roddick, but disgusting and and just completely. Over the top. I, you know, like, how can you know, there's something about that. That just that kind of image was front and center in my in my look book to say, here's the tone. You know, because the the script was very clear. I mean, when when Jennifer polls, there's a point where Jennifer's like eating out of the chest cavity of guy, the, you know, the the star quarterback that she just seduced, and then murders, and they described his intestines as as sort of flying around like confetti, and or like party streamers. And I just remember thinking like woo, that's really horrible. And and horribly funny. And so that's what the the look book was communicating and then there was a process of me, you know, by showing everybody that and talking it through with them. I got the I got the movie eventually was there a point after you? Had made the film that you realized how much of people's reaction to the film was going to be about the that moments cultural relationship to Diablo, Cody and Megan FOX, the snow. Well, I think what I've come to realize is that the surface interpretation from for me at the time was oh this reveals the culture's relationship to Diop blow Cody and Megan FOX as the years progress. I realized this is always the relationship. We're going to have with powerful women..

"Bethesda style games. Here's star field. Here's the elder skull six you won't see him for a while. But this is what we're doing do. Not worry. We have an abandoned our core fans, and that's what blizzard din too. And that's why the core fans who feel like betrayed by blizzard are freaking out, and it's been really interesting to see. And I really think it all could have just been so easily avoided Mattie to your point. I think that's a good a really good point. I think priming people to just have to wait, and wait and wait. And wait is is something that like marketing people don't want to do. But you know, what? That's what people are going to be doing. Anyway, like, everyone is going to be thinking Diablo four citizen. You can also turn waiting into lots and lots of monies. You can really think at that point. Like, even if you're so just stuck to your ways that you can't even use the word theon blow for just to say PC because that's what people want it. I think people are worried something I've seen sentiment. I've seen when I've been like interacting with people a little bit on read one hundred is I've been saying, hey, I can promise you JABA for is in development, and they're all like well, multiple Diablo projects. What could that be that can mean anything, I can mean a Netflix show, it camin comics, it could mean the Netflix show is great. I wouldn't want to be trying to I think there were rumors of Diablo enough I show, and I know buzzer has been trying to do guys saying that's what it is. Oh. It's like, it's it's I recognize that marketing PR people need to find that balance of like giving information, but not giving so much information not setting fans expectations and yadda, yadda, yadda Platt. There is a way to do this that would have mitigated the anger, and man even just putting the album of word in the middle of the show instead of and I would have thought it so much of this put the of three thing at the end. Yeah. That was a great one. Yeah. It's it's all been it's been a shame. And I think that that there's so many things they could have done differently and still could do differently. Like all they still have to say, hey, we have a game coming the only caveat here. And this might be a very legitimate one. Is that they might think that there's a chance that it gets cancelled that it just never happens. And I know that the game has gone through at least one big reboot, and at least one director shift the new Diablo. So it's very possible that between now and next year something catastrophic could happen to them. And they just might move on from that just seems though like I mean, I could have Diablo is like one of the most successful frigging game brands in the entire world. Like all history. That's the problem. That's the problem. Think about the three right? And I wrote about this in in the chapter of my book, which is actually on talk. You can go read it for free. But I thought you're going to say in my book plus what and pixel which Which is. is. On two and the massive successive able to like hunted the Diablo three team and made them have to make all these decisions where it's like, oh my God to this is. So we have to do it this way. And it wasn't until later when they started when they released the game and started putting out patches and the whole team started fixing things and changing things that they decided to go and radical new directions. But before then it was like, wow, the ABA to this way. So we have to do it. Sure, I guess when I say success though, I mean that game is on Foggin seven platforms, and it's probably made like eight billion dollars. That's what I'm saying. I mean having to live up to that is the problem because it's like you have to offer something new you have to go. You have to do something that feels fresh isn't just a rehash of the three, but you also have to capture what made that.

"They were talking about like are we gonna talk about the ABA for Abbas Khan, how're it's worth. Just hearing you describe it sounds like the most fucking semantic conversation. I've ever heard. I mean, that's take that for whatever it's worth. And the problem is when blizzard comes out and says actually, this was never planned for bliss con because it wasn't set in stone on the schedule as opposed to in a conversation that they had a couple of months ago, where they were talking about like, how can we announce this whatever point being they did not announce the apple for I can promise everybody that the four is in development. I have talked to many people who have worked on it or seen it or played it the game. Is being made right now. That's not to say that it won't be cancelled. Our won't be development how because I have no idea we have no idea what's going to happen over the next coming years, but that game is in development. So the people who freaked out and many many people freaked out about the Oslo immortal thinking that this was going to replace the album for well don't freak out any locker. So yes. So there is a lot of backlash to blow for many many reasons everybody saw that guy who got online at the Diablo QNA afterwards and said is this an off season, April Fools joke and everyone saw the rage. The YouTube down votes. I've been get became one of the most down voted like terrible ratio, the red Radikal. And so there are a lot of questions about this rage. And here's a question that I want to ask you to and Mattie. I'll throw this to you first. So blizzard is created this world. This this atmosphere where they hold these bliss cons every every year, and they say, hey, blizzard family get together. And they always ask the same questions at the beginning. Like, Mike moham-, always comes out and. Says how many of you to your first lose con- how many ten? Started out with that trailer showing everybody's smiling yeses in the audience, and they say welcome home packs. Does there? So here's the question. And I don't say this to justify any of the like awful reactions that I've seen from some people on. But do you think that blizzard has facilitated this type of rage by creating this atmosphere where the fans feel like there's part of this blizzard family, and they should be getting what they want because they are part of the blizzard family and they're coming con every year. Do you think that that is a part of this whole conversation? I think so I would say oh blizzard deserves this because they have been facilitating these kinds of cons because as I said blizzard is not the only organization that does stuff like this with games, and sort of encourages this kind of mentality. I think they're going because bliss kind kinda sort of unique entity it's a convention that is packed ask. But it's run by blizzard. It's only blizzard games. And there's this sense that if you are there, you're really only a blizzard gaming fan, and you can walk. From the starcraft theme bar to the hurston themed bar, and like, that's you're you're only playing these games is sort of the vibe evacuation. So so it is kind of unique compared to like packs, but it does still kind of call up that same sense of will then how much are the fans socially permitted to ask. And is it okay? For them to voice those opinions directly at acuity a where they can literally speak the developers and insult them to their faces. And that is I guess socially normalized enough. Now that people feel confident about doing it. And they think it's funny, and they get to be on a twist clip that they can share what their friends, and that's rewarded in some way. Like that's a little bit different. But also kind of the same as people tweeting it somebody to drag them, and then getting votes or whatever for that. And now, it's just it's in person at QNA. So that's a little more uncomfortable. I don't know. I don't know how you this..

"Out, it's. Phone game called Diablo, immortal. Turns out it's being made with net ease, which is a Chinese company. That makes a lot of phone games in China. Let bad funk aims in China. Or at least a lot of games that would not be appealing to a lot of the people who play more hardcore games more deep games and the album, or at all is is a lot of them are kind of China's. Already noticing the kind your core gamer colors or showing. Don't get your. I'm that's part of this though. I'm not only God. You're you're talking to someone who's favorite game is three's like with that. I think it's interesting how we it's hard to know how to describe games. I feel like that's part of the issue. Well, I was just trying to avoid using words like cheap and knock off because that's what a lot of the stuff in China. That might be more accurate. I'm not talking about. 'cause there's a big difference between like the casual hardcore conversation like those words, which is not what I'm trying to say at all like the the games that are released in China. A lot of times are actually just bad games. Like, they're poorly made they're like one I was actually reporting on this get into a second. But I was talking to one person. And they were like, yeah. For china. What what you could release in China would be an alpha in the US like that's what you can get away with releasing their because just their standards are totally different their p practices are totally different. The the whole market is very different there as opposed to the idea of like phone games. That are quote, unquote, casual gamers, which is an entirely different subject that I'm not getting into because that's like where you get into elitism. Shitty. Shitty. I think that's the same subject as what this turned out to be. It could be let me get into that. So anyway, let me finish the story. Right. So do you have immortal is announce it doesn't look great to a lot of people? The the crowd is kind of stunned sitting there in stunned. Silence. Waiting for like, another shoot ajar? And then nothing happens in the end the show. No mention of the ABA for now a couple of important things here. First of all a couple of weeks earlier blizzard it actually put up a blog post saying we multiple Diablo projects in the works. We know what you're waiting for an all we can say is like I think they use some clever language or like good things. Come to those who wait are evil things. Come to those away like something like that. Right. So they were basically saying, hey before is in the works. It's not going to be a bliss con. Right. So then I learned and report it on Monday that they? They had actually made a video where Alan Adam who is the co founder buzzard and currently in very senior role at the company came out and talked about and said similar sorts of things where it's like, we know what you want. We know there's a new Diablo are we we were working on a new PC Diablo. We're not ready to talk about it. And so what I sent in. That report was that it had been pulled from blades con blizzard then came out and disputed that and said that it had not been pulled from his con so just to sort things out, and there will be more on this because I'm planning on reporting on this a little bit further. So you'll see more about this Kotok. I think that so the video is I can hundred percent confirm that the video was made. And it was was planned at some point. What blizzard is said is that the video is actually going to be put up earlier like not apples Kahn, which I mean, I'll defer to them, but the conversations that I've had with people certainly suggests that this is a semantic conversation at some point..

"This is going to be a bite size dude soup really going to aim for it to be an hour under. So we'll see I got a little timer. Going a ratio. Yeah. See that one. You see what makes better? And also get this discussion out the Waco. Yeah. Yeah. We can we can. I'm the feedback. People want want wanted to be shorter. But also want less direction. Oh, so okay. I'm gonna do both things at the same time. All right. All right to to wit. Boy. People are mad about Diablo. Yeah. So brief brief recap. What happened? There was a tweet while ago. Let's check the date. This is sort of the long mining lead up to it August eighth with the community manager by the name of rainy candy. She posted a video basically saying, hey, everyone, you guys should all get super excited about what's coming up for multiple projects that ended up being true to a fashion. They Cincinnati Diablo switch and now Diablo for mobile phones, which is immortal. There are some other rumors there's rumored net flix project. There's a rumored Diablo four which has all but been confirmed blizzard still hasn't said in words, we are working on this. But of course, they all. But of course, they are. There was also a so I think blizzard sort of felt the rumbles they saw the water. In the Cup, and they were like well shit. They posted a blog article on October seventeenth saying basically Dell before is not going to be a bliss con, please don't get your hopes up. Now, we hit bliss con there's the opening ceremonies of some blizzard does other big announcements they announce a couple of things they saved Diablo mortal for the finale the big announce at the end. Yes. So not only did you have somebody at blizzards can get really excited about Diablo. And then another announcement that was only in a blog saying, maybe not yellow for everyone's expecting huge news, boom. It's it's the one of the core franchises now on a phone that Stokes a lot of gamer fear about micro transactions. Skin Chinese mobile gamer. Yes, it is co developed with net ease who has made other hacking and slashes that themselves already looked like the Oslo Diablo mortar looks like those which looked like Diablo. So it gets weird is very much out of blizzards playbook. Right. Like, yes. Like traditionally is there like they generally make blizzard versions of other games. Yes. Didn't really don't have other people making their games which have already been you're already ripping us off. But now we give you our blessing to skin your rip. It just seems like out of their playbook. Generally, you're not wrong corporate. Well, it's it's weird to balance the two, right? There's there's I think very justifiable disappointment from video game players who wanted a core core title, especially at blues con, which is speaking to the core bliss blizzard audience. It's a bit of a mismatch to think that they would be excited about a more casual facing mobile title. Well, I think that's the biggest issue which I totally understand is people saying I bought tickets, and I go to hotel to come to bliss con because I saw this announcement video saying I should be excited about bliss con if I like Diablo, and then I get there, and it's a mobile game. I completely understand. Why those people are mad, and I don't think they'd being entitled for being mad. It's like tell them to be excited to the extent that you're advertising this convention, and they go, and then they're like what the fuck and like I get that. And makes sense to me stop sending people death threats. But here's been to blows con. Okay, for let me I knew they were gonna s mobile game. I say that I think I've been to three maybe four bliss cons. Never once. I had a good time. Oh, really voice had a time. I didn't have a bad time. I didn't have a good time. I had a time. It's a pretty empty. It's the same place at bitcon. Right. Yes. Said giant place, and it's there's one area we can play the elbow. One play world of warcraft one player you play overwatch. There's a giant stage, and that's kind of it. So I mean it dark moon fair, actually..

"But pulled those plans at the last minute there original plan for bliss conto eighteen according to people familiar with blizzards plans was for blizzard to announce the mobile game Diablo mortal, and then and on a video in which company co founder Alan add told the audience at a proper Diablo four was in development, but not ready to show just yet. Instead at last Friday's keynote blizzard revealed Diablo moral to a quiet uncomfortable crowd. And then ended the show for most of the weekend, of course, able hands raged online as a result. The reactions have been very different blizzard changes blitz plans for Jabal at some point in the last couple of. Weeks. Those people familiar with the going down a blizzard said one of those people told me that the dabble team wasn't ready to commit to an announcement. As Diablo four has changed drastically over the past four years and may continue to change further. We've heard it's gone through at least two different iterations. Under different directors blizzard said it did not immediately have comment on the story. And then he gives a little bit of context about the previous Diablo announcements how we saw that video that was put out a little while ago. But then teasing Diablo three on switch and that we have more news later. Come. I think we all assumed Diablo far now. So it was incoming so bliss con seem like the perfect place for that. Now, it's like, well, you miss you miss the boat there where where's it gonna go game awards seems too soon? E three seems too far away. So kind of feels like it's going to be kind of its own thing. I mean at the same time are they too far away. I wouldn't be surprised just announced Expos gone. Like, I don't need you before his imminent. Right. No. I mean, but like the announcement I feel like would have to come before bliss twenty nineteen house too. I think it could the problem is we can't be hypocritical about this. We we get mad when games are announced to early. We get mad when games aren't announced when other games are announced. It's like it's not just like one size fits all to this. Right. I feel like the decision here was probably made to at the last minute pull it because they're like this game is not coming out anytime soon, we should not get people talking because then it's just going to be forty before by questions all the damn time more than even his now. Right, right. So there's obviously a reason they did that if this is true. I trust recent schreier in his sources, so I would. I believe that. But my gut tells me this might not even be true because this little two convenient given the situation gets an easy out for. To explain the situation almost like damage control. Well, as someone who's been part of a major press conference. I would not put a pass them to pull an asset last minute things happen, totally get it. But I say probably probably true. I would not be surprised if some internal people spread some things as damage control for the mobile stuff by just some weird ski me shit of just, hey, at least there's this positive news for them. Right. Well, the crazy part about it is like we know Diablo for is in development blizzard has set as much what kind of an appeasement. Do you think is necessary for people to calm down about about it? There's no it's out of the bond. You can't put it back in like once this happens. You just need to kind of push forward and deal with it. Because guess what at the end of the day. This should doesn't matter games gonna do whatever. It's going to do. This is not going to affect it. At all in the slightest. What this? Is a stain on the gaming community that we're gonna learn from grow from. And I do think that it's a shitty thing that happened, but people are going to learn from it these conversations are happening now and hopefully in the future, it's going to create an even bigger divide between the good guys and the bad guys. Right. Right. Know your audience. I guess is the takeaway. All right, number three on the rope report poke among go, we'll finally track your walking distance in the background..

"That you did when you knew all knew that we were here for four. I think that's a fair question. And that's a question that they're going to get from journalists that are on site that they're going to get from community content, creators. And so that kind of question is fair to ask out a panel because that's what everybody wants to know going up there and being rude or snarky about it. Because you think you're being funny at the developer's expense when they're on stage, which is hard enough. How would you feel if you were onstage knowing somebody? Just booed your games the game that you've been working really hard on even though you knew that everybody was going to like it. And then somebody just throws it back in your face again. Like, you wouldn't like that either. You know, it's like this idea of the golden rule just has magically disappeared. That's true. And it's like, I don't know. It's so. Complicated because it's just like. Part of me is like I don't care how hard you've been working on this thing if I don't if it's not what we're looking for. And like literally like shoving it down our throats, like you're telling us, this is what you're getting. For the people that paid money to go to this event to get something. And I'm saying that from our side like kind of funny live it's like there's so many times we don't make announcements because we're like this is wasting people's time. This is not what they're coming here for and we either make sure that we can make an announcement that is worth making or we save that for a tweet. What I mean? But but the hard part about that is you never know what announced people want because everybody wants something different. Maybe somebody's favorite part of kind of funny. Live is the press conference. You know? And like, they're the skits and stuff are cool. But they're like, I just love kind funny content so much. I wanna know what's coming next goes true. I painstakingly survey people and ask questions and look at the feedback and see to create a show that I'm like, this is what the majority of people that are going to be they're paying to be here. Do you enjoy blizzard not not doing that? Like, I don't feel like I'm crazy and saying that Diablo mobile game is not what that crowd wanted. Right. I mean blizzard is diehard PC community company. That's where they started. That's where the bulk of their fans still to this day are despite that overwatch has kind of introduce more of a council fan base into their into their community. But I'm with you that I think we agree that the announcement was misplaced. But what's interesting about this all his the second item on the report? I think it's important to say yes that being critical of the placement in a press conference or whereas announced where. It's talked about. That's one thing. The facts matter is this game's probably going to be really good people are probably going to really enjoy it. And every time that we see this type of situation happen. It's not always. But a lot of the time people end up being surprised or they know they don't like it so much. I'm not even gonna touch it. You look at Poca mongo. You look at fireable heroes. You look at Super Mario run. You look at all of the Nintendo mobile games and all the hard core. Video gamers want And then so many people love the games and play the games. It's like, okay. Cool. This might not be for you. Then. Right. But I feel like the problem here. Is there talking to an audience that it is should be for them? Right. Yeah. I agree. Even in their response that micro of run polygon very clearly were making immortal for a different audience than the people who were at blows con, we're making this for people who only play on their phones now or maybe have never played on or maybe migrated or maybe people who have. Played diablo. That's great. But that's not. That's not who you're announcing at two. So denounce -ment though that people were hoping for of course, king of scoops Jason Jason schreier over at Kukuh has a source says the blizzard poll the Diop will four announcement from bliss Kahn, which led to this fiasco, Jason rights could taco has learned blizzard originally planned to tease Diablo four..

"Game played demo of Diablo three unintended switch this week, though. There's nothing official announced yet. The folks behind the album. Three are actively working with partners at Sony and Microsoft to enable cross console play with the blue three on switch. Welcome to Twenty-eight loose. James. Everyone can be friends do you think is actually gonna happen? It's such with all due respect to business insider AU to it's a week, quote a week, quote, detainment Representative during gameplay. Demos said that it's a thing where they talking specifically about this or cross play in general, where where, where where we coming down on that because it is it is a thing of it's probably a conversation of. Yeah, when not. If right, if Ben does that include PlayStation, is that the they talk about the next day? All of it's been rumored and all these different things they talking about cross platform play in general, what was the weird thing? It wasn't cross play, but you could have cross saves if you had a unless Jen. Last yes, you got on three sixty. Xbox One in. That sounds right. It's been a while because that was the Diablo three rivers, a soul collection or so something talk show. It was awesome dab a-this in amazing ABC just by the way, if you play that you should definitely switch or any other millions of platforms it's on like. Cross platform, sixteen PS threes. I would say number one, no. And then especially right now I don't. I don't think you need it in this Diablo three again. I remember when it launched on PC and there was the air thirty four or whatever the hell sixty four or sixty seven coda was it was a huge deal. But yeah, it's coming to switch now. I think it'll be a huge audience of new switch players. You wanna play as somebody who loved the album. Three played it really extensively NPR and then really extensively PlayStation four. Like I am not at all like man, it'd be awesome to get my save across, blah. I don't care. I wanna jump in place of us has been that long since it came out like I played it regime three sixty. Yeah. And you know, it's been years until I kind of don't want my save or anything that classic thing of Jimmy back and be like, wait, what am I doing? How many doing this? Where am I Dag Sam. Cross platform play. I mean, it's always great to have. Would you say though that like maybe if you're playing PC you have more of an advantage because keep would if Jabba three competitive, right? It's p. There's no kind of com slash wrong. If the patch something, I don't remember. There's no p p thing going up against each other. That's true like so if you're if if your PC on plan, that's exactly you're just you're just grinding out stuff. Getting me more and more content. That's all I want. That's what I need. Yeah, it wanted affect me one bit of the other. But I mean, where have you come down? How close are we to cross platform you think being ubiquitous or are we never anywhere. I would hope maybe with next. It's more of a hope rather than a definitely gonna happen to me. Maybe next gen. Yeah. Yeah, it's gonna be interesting, right? I feel obviously fortnight in getting PlayStation switch off, but Microsoft working so closely with Nintendo on Minecraft in a couple other games. I feel like you're going to see more of those breakthroughs Minecraft already playing together going to happen eventually. I think roughly replaying together is going to happen, but then it starts getting to like war frame. Maybe like I know they have a dedicated user base and audience, but will that be enough to make every jump over and do it. I play overwatch on peaceful on PC. I would not wanna play on PS four against them and he's playing when PC shirt. Because those games, it's going to be game dependent PlayStations doing the case by case beta. But no, but Diablo do have two panels con- they have one was kind of not enough pay attention to keep talking to turn on the fan..
