When the calendar turns to 2022, we'll be right here talking about the NFL playoff picture. Weekday mornings at 6 eastern on ESPN radio. I got my pictures out in Georgia. I get my me from California. I took my chick up to the new year. Well, he knows the Georgia bulldogs inside and out. He knows a little bit about playing quarterback in the southeastern conference because he did it for ugga and Hudson mason joined us now here on Friday at the Simmons on ESPN radio, the ESPN app series XM channel 80. Be it a Goodyear hotline Hudson brow happy new year, may I appreciate your time playing your rival team one game removed for the big tamale. Take me back to your playing days. What would that be like? I'd like to reference a data point or a game in which I had something similar like this, but I can't. I've been asked a lot, obviously I do radio here in Atlanta and everybody wants to know what's different about this matchup and what adjustments will coach smart make and do we have a chance and I just think it's fascinating because at this point in the season you are who you are, man. I mean, there are so much tape on each teams out there and maybe it'd be a little different if there were a couple more games, a couple more data points that separated these two teams in between the SEC championship game and the natty, but there's not. And so I'm fascinated by this idea in this storyline of which coach, which team can put their team in their players in the best position in the best chance to win because they're going to study every tendency, which they already do, but I mean, there's just there's not really too many more wrinkles and nuances that you can add to a play into a game plan when we're talking about just two to three weeks and really one game that separates the two. So I'm fascinated by that and obviously Nick Saban is going to get that nod because he's the goat. He's the greatest adjuster of all time. And so everybody's talking about, well, what adjustments will Georgia make? And they know what strength Alabama has now, but on the flip side, you better believe that Nick Saban is not going to sit back over the next week and just go, oh yeah, we're just going to do the same thing over and over that we did at work in Atlanta. He's going to have his wrinkles too. So it's going to feel like a big time boxing match. How Hudson, I just saw it, man. I was on the call for cotton bowl with Sean Kelly and your old buddy Barry Jones and man, hey, you talk about night and day. It wasn't Bryce young that won that game. It was Brian Robinson's legs and 240 yards on the ground that they just ran it right down Cincinnati's throat. So you want to talk about a new wrinkle. I mean, we know that B rob can tote it, but for two O four, I mean, dude, that was amazing to watch. And here's the other part. Alabama is still playing that underdog role. There were two Ted favorite against Cincinnati and they came into that game, still talking about it. Everyone was talking about Georgie, even though they just trucked them in the SEC championship game and nobody believes that that's the team that they can be that they finally put everything together. When you hear that, what's your reaction? You know, I was going to say it makes me scared, not from a player standpoint, but from a, from a person who's rooting for George, it makes me scared because the idea that the greatest coach of all time could use quote juicy rat poison his advantage. Is unbelievable. But that's the masterful motivator that he is. And I think there's an element to this team with Alabama. That like, they, for whatever reason, really believe that they are like almost the worst of the Alabama championship teams, like they're the redheaded stepchild, right? Like, you know, like nobody really, we finally lost to a Nick Saban assistant this year and we're really not as dominant as we've been in other years past. Like, this is just, this is just any other Alabama team. And I think that team has kind of taken that to heart and they've used that as motivation and I'm not necessarily surprised by the minus three line that Vegas had just because there's not enough games in between, but to your point. I mean, you better believe that Nick Saban is going to use that. As motivation, much like he did in the SEC championship game that, hey guys, look, you spanked their butt last time and they still don't believe that you're the better team. Former Georgia bulldog quarterback now in college football analyst for us here on ESPN, follow him on Twitter at H mason 14 Hudson mason here with us on Freddy and Fitz on ESPN radio. All right, take go to the other side and Georgia. Me and Bryce young let them up and that secondary is always been I saw them against Clemson part of that broadcast and the front 7 is filthy. We all know that. We can go down the list of the deans and davises and everybody else, right? I mean, that front 7 is as good as there is in college football of Georgia. The back end, that's the question mark. How do you protect that secondary from having Bryce young lights you up again? Yeah, number one, I mean, Georgia had a bunch of uncharacteristic boss in the secondary that maybe they would have they had earlier in the year, but most offensive lines for Kentucky and Tennessee and other programs couldn't block that front 7. And so it wasn't as exposed as Alabama and Bryce young in that offense. And you make one little mistake and they find it. He finds it. So they've got to limit the boss. You can't really have any boss. Great teams find it and they take advantage of it. I think number two is that defensive line for Georgia significantly underperformed in the SEC title game. And they got no sacks and they were great all year. They can not have a game anywhere near that same stratosphere that they did. It was a no show performance by them. Now, they rebound and had a heck of a day against Michigan. Michigan had the best offensive line in the country and they made them look very pedestrian. That's the type of performance that devonte Wyatt, Jordan Davis. Those type of guys have got to show up and find a way to get pressure because you're talking about a little bit of the kryptonite of that Georgia defense is the secondary and maybe it's a little bit more of a feather in their caps and won't be planned, but you've got to make Bryce young move his feet and there's an old saying for quarterbacks like the more movements in the pocket typically it means good things for a defense. If you can get a quarterback to move and I don't necessarily just talking about running, I'm talking about just moving his feet, making him reset on his platform. You've got a greater chance for him to throw an accurately and they just didn't do enough of that in the SEC title game. When you hear the name stetson Bennett, what comes to mind? Rudy? Modern day Rudy? That's what comes to mind. I mean, this guy's story is unbelievable. You know, he has got a chance to officially get the last laugh at the Georgia fan base because they have been clamoring and petitioning for JT Daniels. And especially after the SEC title game, I thought personally there was too much of an onus put on by Twitter folks and certain people in the media. I thought there was too much of an onus put on him and his performance in that he lost the SEC championship game for him. But the way he rebounded and the way he performed and he won the game for them in the orange bowl. And I think that was important. I think he needed to have a type of game where people could look at him and go, no, he was the reason that Georgia won, not necessarily, oh, Georgia one, but they didn't really win. They won in spite of steps. No, no, no. He went 20 for 30 in freaking bald out. He needed that. And it's so cool to see that and maybe that's a soft spot I have in my heart as a former quarterback where it's like, man, you got to be a mentally tough son of a gun. To be a quarterback at that level and then at the next level because people are going to question when you have one bad game. They're going to question if you're the guy and you know Georgia fans have been questioning all year if he could take him to the promised land and here we are again. Well, quarterback for the Georgia bulldogs Hudson mason here lives on Freddie and fitzsimmons on ESPN radio and by the way, yeah, three 13 and three touchdowns for stetson Bennett against Michigan and 8 and Hutchinson and Josh Ross and the boys for that Michigan defense and that's why big part while they're in the natty. Lastly, we talked about Alabama getting that edge being a touchdown underdog in the SEC championship game carrying it into the game against Cincinnati and now an underdog again in the natty two Georgia who they dismantled and the SEC title game, but I saw an edge to Georgia watching that game on my couch in the orange bowl. How much did the Bama loss just light another fire under Georgia that helped him against Michigan? It could help them also in this rematch. Yeah, it did. And it was so evident to see, it just refocused them, I think, you know, call it a slice of humble pie. However you want to phrase it. Sometimes losing does that. And it's not that you want to lose, but losing serves its purpose sometimes in sports. And I think that it really did kind of refocus this team re aggravate them, I guess, maybe, but hunger and drive is something that is hard to quantify and sports. And as we see from Tom Brady and Bill Belichick and Nick Saban, I mean, these guys have got an incredible amount of drive and they find ways to motivate themselves. And when you've got that man, you've got a chance. And I think that's why Georgia again is going to, this is going to be a really good game. I mean, these teams have played so many times already. Even in recent memory, very rarely, is it a blowout game? It is always come down to late in the fourth quarter. One score game over time. You know, a decision for a fake punt in the SEC title game a couple of years. I mean, this is typically always been a 9 round boxing match punch for punch fine. And I'm expecting the same thing. And I think Georgia is in a really good spot. The tough part to be is like you just keep looking at that zero and four number. Kirby smart versus Nick Saban and as a Georgia guy, you're going, man, I see how this team has rebounded. And I see when they're playing their ball, they're as good as anybody in the country. But man, how do you pick Georgia? Like, it's hard to look past that zero and four because I do think there's an element to that right now with this team and getting past Alabama that that's going to be the hardest part is just how do you pick George after seeing them lose so many times Alabama. And remember folks, it was one of those in the natty just a few years ago, Mercedes Benz and the dome in Atlanta, where it's devonte Smith from tua on second and 26. In overtime to have that one of those four losses at Kirby has against Nick Saban, you get tacked on his ledger. So look, I'm with you, man. I can't wait for a great game we'll have the call Sean McDonough, Todd black lives myself will be there in Indy for Georgia and Alabama right here on ESPN radio. "Did you forget about making a move and go and getting what you need? Well, hey, let's give credit where credit is due. I am happy to say that the Green Bay Packers in the second round made an aggressive move, they traded up with Minnesota and with the second pick of the second round 34th overall, they drafted a receiver Christian Watson out of North Dakota state and I, hey, round of applause for me, I love this pick. That's the move I was waiting for. There we go. Okay, he's a big, fast receiver 6 foot four. He's a deep threat. And I have no doubt that he's going to be made even better. With Aaron Rodgers throwing him the football, oh yeah, by the way, he's going to be on a rookie contract. You can pay the guy next to nothing. It's a great move. Hey, Brian gooda coons. I make fun of you all the time. That's a great job. And in fact, so I respect to move, I think is a great fit for their system. He's a big, fast, deep threat receiver going to work well with Aaron. And as I take a step back in the dust settles on the NFL Draft, and you look at what the Green Bay Packers did, I like it. In the moment I was critical, but with new information and watching what they did, you look in the first round, Green Bay, they took linebacker clay walker, they took defensive tackle, devonte Wyatt, they got too good defenders out at Georgia. They're gonna be good contributors they solve some problems on defense. Then in the second round they trade up for Christian Watson at receiver, that's a nice aggressive move, the one I was waiting for. And in the first two rounds, a package of resolving problem after problem after problem, and I love it. Hey, well done. I have no problem adjusting my opinion as you get new information. And early in the draft they did a good job, they made a couple of good late picks. They drafted three receivers total and this year's NFL Draft? And after the first round, it looked bad. They really needed a receiver, but they made the move. They went and got Christian Watson. I think he's a great fit. He's cheap. He's got a good skill set that fits well with Aaron and well done Green Bay. Shout out to them. They did well. Now, the Minnesota Vikings are hilariously confusing. I don't know what they're doing. Day traded with Detroit. And they made it possible possible for the lines to get a really talented receiver jamison Williams out of Alabama..

"Any other storylines that popped out from you for this draft did like your big picture board for what you thought might happen in the playoffs? Are there future bets you're thinking about now? Are the eagles? A fringe contender to you now? Anybody like that? Yeah, there were a couple people in the community who steamed hurts MVP and eagles odds. I got little ESPN notification. Caesar's eagle Super Bowl odds have gone from like 50 to one to 40 to one or like 41 to 31 something like that. I do not believe in jail and hurts as a playoff quarterback. I saw what that Buccaneers defense believed of Jalen hurts and it was that he could not throw the ball. It wasn't great. Yeah, I don't think that changes, even with the addition of AJ Brown. So I think that's a little bit presumptuous. What I will say is this. Two teams who made deep playoff runs last year, who just very quietly added good players who can start next year and be very quality and important roles for their team are the Buffalo Bills who got one of my favorite players Florida corner kaya elam. They've always needed a corner two opposite Travis white. It's always been a big deal for them and finally after Travis white got hurt. They decided to make that pick. So if white's healthy and elam can play in year one, the bills just solved one of the biggest problems they've had over the last couple of years. And then your Super Bowl runner up. The Cincinnati Bengals, who I don't think should have made it that far, and I don't think we'll make it that far again, but got one of the better players left in round one at Dax hill, who's the corner safety hybrid at a Michigan is exactly what they need. They need a quick player who can cover the slots, a guy who can run underneath Jesse Bates and play that nickel role. He's an important player to them. And they beat up their offensive line and for age through the Bengals. Bengals 22 to one on FanDuel. Bills are the favor right now. Plus 6 50. Yeah. Every year we get to draft time and I just go bills. Please drop around one corner. Please do it. Please do it. And every year they come up with something else that's creative and cool and it's an important player. But this year they did, I think the job. They kind of swallowed the pill and said, our defense can hide cornerbacks only so much. We're going to start investing into this position. So Eli and I liked a lot for the bills and daxton hill at 31 I liked the bangles. I hate everything the Vikings do. Stop turning back, makeup picks. That's that. The Vikings had they taken Jameson Williams. And just put him with Jefferson and said, fuck this, we're just going for it. That would be really fun. On the Lions, though, with jamison Williams, man. I mean, you don't even have a quarterback, you know, I hear trading 20 picks to go get a torn ACL receiver at 12. That's a lot of dip on your chip. I respect the moves. Well, and you have that legacy of the all time hit or miss receivers in the first round team. Yet again, I was looking at the NFC. I think the best value right now for future bets. If there isn't even value is who wins the NFC? Because I don't think we have a dominant NFC team, per se. Your eagles are 17 and what? It's possible. Again, I like the eagles more for like, I know right before the Brown trade to win the division, they were like plus two 75 plus two 50, which I liked a little bit more just because again, I'm really worried about hertz against playoff defenses for like two, three weeks in a row. One team and that's plus two 40 right now. Yeah. That's pretty solid, by the way. Yeah, to me, that's still actionable. The one NFC contender that had a, you know, a bit of a meme day. Is the packers. We just didn't take a round one receiver. Packers go linebacker one, clay walker at 22, who I just thought should be a first rounder and is a good player, but I really liked him. Yeah. He's a good player. He's the second linebacker for the team. It's not like they had none, right? They had devonshire Campbell. And then they take devonte Wyatt, who's a good defensive tackle, but also had massive off the field concerns that were potentially going to push him outside around one. And they grabbed him at 28, and they're still throwing the ball at Al lazard, baby. I don't, I do not see the vision. I do not understand the plan. Let's just have Aaron Rodgers win his third MVP in a row. I suppose we'll go back to losing the energy. He's not winning an MVP with the talent that they have on their offense this year. Yeah, that ain't happening. How's he gonna get to 5000 yards? 4500 yards. I do not see the plan. Unless they really, truly earnestly believe they can move the Raiders off of Darren Waller, which is what they wanted to do in the Devante Adams trade. They've been trying to do it for this process here before the draft. But the Raiders went and put Darren Waller on the stage to welcome the NFL to Vegas. They do not feel like a team that wants to move off of Waller. I'm struggling to find the star receiver that they get because Brown is off the board and I would be stunned at the niners trade depot to the backers. After the way they've seen them repeatedly in the postseason, that would shock me. And so I struggled to find that star receiver left at the packers so desperately need. I can't imagine that either. And I think the price for debo is more than AJ Brown. I think so? Yeah. And probably somewhere between Tyreke was more than AJ Brown, right? I need to see the whole list, but we didn't devonta nobody went for two firsts out of the receivers. Yeah. Which I think was a little surprising. Yes, I guess. Tyreke went for 29 a second, a fourth, a fourth, and a 6th. Oh, Jesus. That was a lot. Yeah, so I would say it's less than that. Yeah. The difference between first rounders is a little substantial right, AJ Brown took 18 and tyreek took 29, but still having to trade 5 picks for the player. And the second round pick as well. It is pretty substantial, right? Having the remaining picks that the eagle still be flexible, whereas once the dolphins did that, it becomes tough to move around in this draft and for other players. And so I don't know. I would be curious what the charts would say on that, but I would expect, yeah, like debo requires a middle first plus, right? Like ten, I thought was already always a little too much if they made that jets trade. But like a middle first, then plus something on the back end. And that's obviously not viable anymore for 2022. So now it's a 2023 first, which introduces uncertainty, and that means that the price goes up in terms of the actual stuff you have to put in..

"In this draft? Oh, mother, Mary. Trade pass. Leave. No, but it was just the best player. Who do you think 7 years from now? Who is the best player in this draft? Cable on thibodaux would be my guess. I feel that way too. All the reasons he dropped and I admittedly follow this basically from reading the ringer and listening to our podcast and reading a couple of the draft pieces and different places, but just from a general vibe, dumbass is like me can get the gist, right? It's like every year there's a guy like Hamilton where he's gonna fall 7 to ten picks lower than he should go just because of the position he plays. There's people trying to talk themselves out of somebody like thibodeau who, if you had said at any point, you know, basically before January, who's going to be the number one pick, he would have been one of the first two or three mentioned. He goes 5, and then there's the Jags at number one, talking to themselves in this guy from Georgia. Basically because nobody could agree who was the number one pick and it's like, oh, the upside. And then the guy, the eagles get who was the better version of him at Georgia. Yeah, Trayvon walker was the first overall pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars from Georgia, was originally a defensive tackle there. And then because the other guys were too good and because of other mitigating reasons like George Adam get their best players on the field, but in part because he couldn't supplant Jordan Davis went 13 to the eagles and devonte Wyatt, who had 28 to the packers, he moved to edge, and that is obviously a position to a premium position, a position of value for the NFL. He is a great athlete at that position. So the Jaguars made that pick. But low key one of the losers of the draft is the jacks. They would have loved to have trade out of one. Everybody would have, it's not a good year to have the number one overall pick. They take walker who, man, I don't know, I think walker would have gone 9 at the earliest if he did not go number one overall. Relative to where other teams had him. So this was not a consensus top 5 guy. And then they trade back up into the first round. At like a weird premium. They spent, they went from 35 to 27, and it cost them a fourth and a 6th to do it, which doesn't sound like a lot, but that's more than the price of admission had been set. Like you look at the Patriots and the chief straight up, the chiefs went from 29 to 21, and they just sent a third and a fourth, which is 8 picks earlier in the first round. It's a.

"Mcclay, you know, everyone knows this Jerry Jones is offensive line. It's like, you know, there's a reason that people keep trying to hire one clay. You know, I mean, he's really good at his job. He's the guy who's actually like telling people, you know, what picks to make and is doing a pretty good job of that. Do you think that they run enough zoni concepts to make Tyler linderbaum worth the investment? I mean, you know, I just see him as such an outside zone guy, but I don't know if I don't know if it's like one of those things where he's just so good and so athletic off the ball that you pretty much assume he can do anything. I wonder if they do want to get back to that at some point. I mean, they're heyday with his eco Elliot and those early dak Prescott days. That was one of the Staples of that offense. And then Travis Frederick obviously has the guillain Barre syndrome and was never quite the same after that and obviously he's retired at this point. They just can't do what they used to do up front. And Frankie, this was a team that threw a lot in sort of neutral situations last year. I actually don't have the numbers in front of me, but I am going to make that claim and assume it was true because I'm just basing that off watching them all season. So that's one, that's one spot. I mean, I could see it. I could see them going with the title linder bomb here and trying to recapture that old magic. With some of the outside zone self and Travis Frederick was the best reach blocker in the NFL. The linebacker thing is really interesting just because if you want to, on one hand, if you want to keep on moving like a Parsons around, which they should want to. That worked out really well last year. You had that option. They did bring in Dante Fowler on the edge. They also, they have jabril Cox from last season kind of an interesting pure speed linebacker who maybe they feel good about him and pairing him with van der resh if they move Parsons around. But you want me to totally hijack this conversation with yeah, I do because I don't really know where I want to go here for the cowboys. I would think too. And again, I mean, Dan quin reinvented himself. So let's not assume that this is him trying to recreate the best things that he's had. With the falcons, but devonte Wyatt is still on the board and their interior.

"It was ultimately Seymour, but they do, he has operated that way in the past. Yeah. So I do wonder Phil Perry. He threw it out there yesterday. He doesn't usually just throw things out there just for the sake of it. Maybe quay walker is a guy out there looking at the top of the draft too. So we just basically covered all of our bases just in case they do just about anything on Thursday night. So that's the way we do it here, right? So it's not about predicting. It's just about getting out there. How many games can you know? By the way, I don't know why none of the defensive players are showing up. I was about to read it off. They did have Quincy Carter and Patrick pastel on that Georgia team. Yeah, also, I didn't mention devonte Y in the first round and I'm not saying that there's anything going on with him off the field or anything like that that I know of. But I didn't mention him as a first round guy because I didn't mention him as a first round guy. Devonte Wyatt, I don't know enough information. I'm not speculating. It's not a Christian barmore situation. I don't want to put that out there, but there is some reason league why that devonte Wyatt is falling out of the first round. I don't think it has anything to do with outfield. I think it's more about on field stuff potentially, but whatever it is, that's how it feels. Is that he's not going to be there. So I think it's going to be an interesting thing. To look at, like, you said, there are trends suggest closer to the football is probably where they're going. I don't know if that's no, the trend doesn't suggest. Well, not on offense, it doesn't suggest that. Well, it suggests that close to the football. And they're not going to go wide receiver..

"Can see that. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that a guy like Jermaine Johnson falls. But we can pull it up. One of these edge guys is going to fall. There's just so much walker Hutchinson, you know, thibodeau. We had to get to 8. Some people think he's a potential first overall pick. I would put an excuse me, I would put Jordan Davis in that group. 'cause I think he's that exposed of an athlete. Devonte Wyatt and all these guys, George karloff, it's like somebody's gonna fall. For us, it was Johnson. Yeah. But somebody's gonna fall. Carlos is filled too. In terms of the Patriots at 21, I know a lot of people want a corner. I hear you. I think dadson hill or Tyler Gordon could come into the conversation if they were able to trade out of that pick. If we had them trade out of 21 because Jermaine Johnson wasn't there, right? And it was the rest of the guys that were there. Then I think they go end up going DB with that pick. But they're a DB in the second round type of team. That's just what they do, right? Outside of Devin McCourty, that's what they do. From everything that you hear about the Patriots and I get that this time of year, I treat everything with the Patriots as a giant grain of salt. There's no real solid information coming out of there. But getting somebody close to the ball, getting someone in the trenches or closer to the line of scrimmage, I think is what their ultimately thinking, whether it's offensive line or defensive line. We end up going defensive line with a guy like Jermaine Johnson, or edge defender, whatever you want to call it. So I think that they would ultimately leaning towards trenches here at this pic. I think it's going to be trading out. I think the trade out of the pick, move into the back end of the first round or the early second round and get their daxton hill or get their kylo Gordon or get somebody like.

"Yeah, why it's stock for some reason has been sliding a little bit, a lot of reports out there that he might fall out of the first round. I'm not exactly sure what that's all about. It's got other than to deal with what the chat was talking about earlier. It was Adam Anderson, not the von de Wyatt. I don't know what's going on with devonte Wyatt stock. This is a tough spot for the Chargers because nobody really fell to them here, right? They didn't get anybody that they might want, I could see mcduffie being a pick here. That type of system. I mean, I think they would prefer defensive linemen if they could. I think that would be ideal, an interior defensive lineman, but Davis is gone. So it's got to be either Wyatt here or mcduffie if they're going to make the pick, I think. Well, so the cardinals are calling. And they could definitely use a corner. Yeah. I'm trying to see, yeah, okay, so I have a lot of sense from a scheme perspective. I think Trent mcduffie Buddha baker, like those kinds of players are kind of the Cardinals jam at corner, right? I mean, that's sort of what they do. So I could see them try to come up here for a guy like mcduffie, if they don't think he's gonna make it much further. So I want a three in a future three gets it done. Yeah. Give up 5 spots, 6. Yeah, I mean, if the cardinals, I think the biggest problem for the cardinals is you're just trying to make Kyler Murray happy. I don't know if a corner necessarily makes Kyler Murray happy, but whatever. Where can they add on offense to make them happy? The only other thing they could have gotten there is waiting at 23 and taken Linda bomb, right? That's incredible. But I hear you. All right, eagles here at 18. This is Devin Lloyd. Yeah. They've no line backers. They have like no NFL linebackers on their roster. Yeah. I'm with you. So we already picked penny with the saints. I am going to pitch a trade here. Oh, I actually really like this. I really like it. Everyone wants to move up. He's desperate to move up. Jerry always wants up. The saints know that they might need a quarterback next year. They're going to try to get some of those future assets. Right. So they're actually going to, let me look at the real.

"All right, so speaking of the Patriots. Brings us to the Patriots last one of part one of our series. The Patriots at 21, boy, you really want to give them devonte Wyatt, huh? Well, I want to devonte Wyatt to be gone by now, but I have a lot of problems. I had mocked them and inside linebacker, but I don't think either of the two that we have gone right now are stylistic fits for what Belichick wants to do. He's a tough, he's a tough guy to peg. And if I'm bell check, I'm looking at this receiver class. You did some work there, but, you know, there's still a lot to like there. I mean, you have olave, you have datsun. You have Drake London who are still on the board. I mean, you know, and I mean, Trey Lin Burke's, you know, all these guys could theoretically help Mac Jones too. And, you know, I don't know. I don't think he's averse to trying another swing at a first round wide receiver. Yeah, Ole dotson both kind of fit here. I don't want to make it sound like demonte Parker is your solution for the next decade, but obviously they went out and got Parker, another big bodied guy along with Kendrick Bourne and another guy who gives you some blocking value on the outside as well, but yeah, I think again, because we all love stylistic compliments. I think my gut is olave, but I think it's gotta be either O labor dots in here. I don't know if it makes sense to go get devonte Parker and then draft Drake London or Trey Lambert. I agree. I say, let's take olave off the board here. You're building around Mac Jones. I think if your Belichick probably figure, you're gonna, he's gonna, he's gonna draft some versatile safety from Nebraska Kearney that's gonna play there for 11 years. And in the second round and everything's gonna be fine. Defensively. It's roster building one O one. That's right. All right, Connor, that does it for part one of the mock draft series. We're gonna be back on Wednesday. First thing Wednesday morning with part two, gosh, we're going all the way down to pick one O two. What a thrill ride. This is gonna be. And we'll complete our rankings of Law & Order district attorneys. The MM QB end.

"The other thing I'd say about it, you said they don't feel like a first round corner team. They're really haven't done that under Bill. Look at their last two of their last three first rounds. Wide receiver quarterback. It's a different era. Matt grows in the seat now, right? Last year, we kept saying they weren't going to take a quarterback because it was too obvious. And then they took Mac Jones after he followed him. This feels very similar, right? But they won't take a corner. They never take those kind of guys in the first round, but booth is the perfect fit, but it doesn't matter because that's not the guy that's everything we said about Mac Jones last year, right? And now here we are in the same spot with Andrew booth. So that's why I would say Andrew booth. Again, heading in this spot, let me just pull up the board again just we can remind ourselves who's here. Again, they have, they have Raymond hire, I like penning better, penning would be a good pick. I could get behind Wyatt, you wouldn't be my favorite pick. I could get behind. I think why it's interesting just because of the optics of pairing Christian barmore with devonte Wyatt for the next 5 to ten years with a lot of fun. But we can go get we can go get free. Thank you. Right. I'm not too worried about that. I could even consider Dax hill here. I said this a lot. I think getting Devin 40s replacement is important. He could be that guy. I think this board actually worked out okay. Hillary is such a one of those guys that just like Devin mccordy, they got safety depth and Devin McCourty's rookie season. So they played him at outside corner and then eventually moved him to safety. I could definitely see the same thing going on with Dax hill, whereas a rookie he's playing corner because that's where they need him to play. But then once Devin McCourty retires and that free safety spot opens up, they eventually move him back to free safety if they get him in the spot where he probably hits his ceiling the fastest, right? Or is the best possible football player? I think look, I said that you could make the pick I was going to give you more power here..

"Except for maybe one day a week, those one day a week, the guys that are playing on Sunday are the guys getting the reps in those padded practices, right? Right. So trial by combat is kind of the new norm for lineman in the NFL. Guys that get red shirted, yeah, mental reps can be important. Yeah, sitting in those meeting rooms sitting in those film studies. Those things can be important, but you're not getting any physical reps once you get into the season to improve. And especially in line play, that's an issue. So with penning, he's got some technique things that he needs to work out. He needs to get more flexible and those lower half. He needs to stop bending at the waist as much. And he's got some aggression issues, right? He's got a harness that aggression a little better. He's been leading the FBS and penalties for multiple seasons now. So I feel like you gotta play a guy like penning to try to season him to try to round him out as a prospect. Where are they playing him as a rookie? They're not gonna be unless somebody gets hurt unless when or Trent Brown gets hurt. And we're not doing the Isaiah Windsor guard thing. We're not doing that. Right. Where are they playing petty? 'cause I do think looking at this board that two guys that I think make the most sense at this point just using my Bill Belichick patriots at is devonte Wyatt or Trevor petting. The guys on the trenches feels like where they would probably go with the pick like this. See, I think this draft is so, so deep on the defensive line. I don't think penning, I don't think why it would be the pick here. We see them do this all the time, where it's a loaded draft, and they, you know, somebody falls to them and they just move on because they know they can get the value. To me, it's petting and booth. Yeah, heading for all the reasons you said. They're going to need a starting left tackle in a year. He's a year away. You know, we're way out right now, but next year's tackle class looks so, so if you don't have a top ten pick, then again, penning was not on the radar last year. So who knows? But I think penning is a logical pick. And I think booth, because we know they met with them. Yeah. As much as we've talked about this position as defense, they still don't have that big corner on the outside. And there's going to be matchups where they need that guy. And I don't even if they are going to go position this zone defense, I don't think that's a full-time switch, right? I think that's a one year thing because of the circumstances and they're going to try to get back to press man as soon as they can. Booth would.

"Plays that strong side edge position that Kyle van noy vacated. I just look, I threw this out there on Twitter the other day. I was, do you really think that Joshua J and Ronnie Perkins are the Kyle van noy replacements? Like uche on the strong side of the run play just does not spell patriots for me. And the other problem. If anybody at San fernande Jennings. Yeah, and the other problem that I have with it is that if you're going to go lighter and put uche out there or if you're going to put a new guy like Ronnie Perkins, like it feels like judon then has to move to the strong side and then you're not allowing him to pin his ears back and try to get after the quarterback. So I wouldn't be surprised if somebody like Johnson's eye on their board as somebody that can really set the edge and play the strong side the way that they want to play it. We obviously like pay your I love devonte Wyatt, but that feels to me at this point in the draft more like a luxury pick than a necessity to grab another guy on the defensive line. And all the guys that are left on the board, I would say that why it's the most talented, he's got the highest upside and probably the best all around prospect that still left. Let's look at some of the trades, though, because I think that that's ultimately where we're going to hit with this pick. So but here's the thing. And this feels possible. There's a lot of teams that like these guys. There's a lot of teams that like the players that just went. We have no trade offers. So what that means in terms of the PFF thing is we're essentially not going to get much back for this pick as we'd like. And that's kind of the same thing in real life. So the question is how far down do we want to move, right? So if we look at it realistically, we like Raymond, we'll add Wyatt, we like Wyatt, we like a job, but we like Johnson, we like elam. So that's 5 players, right? Do we still want a shot at one of those 5 guys? Are we fine moving beyond that? Do we want to move back into do you want to stay in the first? Do we want to move all the way out of the first round into the second? The one I've been toying with because there.

"Why that's why manipulated his words initially. Was he wanted to hide from his opinion and he couldn't. So. Well, because he doesn't want it to blow up, I don't think. I don't think he wants it. Completely blew up in his face. Yeah. That's enough said, and I think that's perfect actually. He did what he thought was right to avoid a big story. And because you're Aaron Rodgers, no matter what you do, it's a big story. Anyway, so what do you want the packers to do in the draft? Believe it or not, I think interior defensive line in the first round is actually would be a good move for them. I mean, I've been like screaming receiver receiver receiver. But just when you look at and that depends, they're going to have to make some cuts to get under the cap here. And I think dean Lowry, who's the only other three down into your defensive alignment that they have. They can clear about 5 or 6 million by letting him go. And he's just, he's fine, but he's not, he's just an easy cut candidate. So if he's gone, I think you have a glaring need. You really don't have any room to spend in free agency. And that's a position that you really can't hit on an interior defensive lineman after the first round. It's one of the hardest position groups over the last few years. It's become a thinner and thinner group every year. I don't know if it's because 7 on 7 football and that part of the game is just getting washed out in college or what, but there's only like three or four prospects that I think can make a day one impact as a starting interior run defender. And you look at like Travis Jones or devonte Wyatt out of Georgia, I think if either of those guys there, I think you take him there and then in the second round, you gotta go wide receiver. You gotta go wide receiver because they might get priced out of marques Valdez scantling. Whether packers fans want to admit it or not, Al mazar actively hurts his team because he just can't get open. I'm not trying to be dramatic here..

"Especially if JC Jackson's not here, it's just such a major glaring hole on their entire roster structure to not have a corner that even just to not have depth that corner. It doesn't necessarily have to be a JC Jackson Stefon Gilmore level player. But just the fact that they don't have depth that corner is a big concern. So I just don't see how you can't I think at this point corner has really lapped the idea of taking a nose tackle early in this draft unless it's Jordan Davis. Which is just he's so good. Yeah, corner. Corner was one of their biggest needs even when we thought JC Jackson was coming back. I do want to backtrack real quick, though, because somebody did bring up a good point, you know, I saw somebody in the chat said, how are you going to say a nose tackles entire draft stock changed based on a 40 time, well, that's kind of the point. Jordan Davis proved he's not just a nose tackle. Right. That's why the stock changes so much. It's not that it knows tackle ran quickly. It's that a guy we thought was a nose tackle tested so well athletically. It's clear he can play more than just the nose. So that's more the point. Jordan Davis is not like he can play nose tackle. He's not just a nose tackle. He's probably in terms of, again, I can't project Jordan Davis because there's no comp. But if you're going to project his role in the NFL based on the rest of the class, he's probably closer to a guy like devonte Wyatt or any of these like 300 pound multiple position defensive lineman than he is to a guy like Travis Jones. Yeah. I agree with you there and he's somebody now that his athletic profile combined with the tape that he had at Georgia and I'm still a tape guy..

"A sub, not just a sub 5. He ran a sub four 8. He was a four 7 three, which is just, I mean, when it happened, my job, I think I made an audible noise and just looked at me and was like, what? What's going on? And I was like, a 340 pound dude with ran of four 7 three. Even she was impressed. So, you know, that's when you know, right? By the way, you know who else ran a four 7 three officially? That arisa. All the best players are running for it. Although, if you go back, you watch the tape, he ran like a four four two. They screwed him on the clock, but all the best players are officially running anyway. Go ahead. Yeah, you know, you know, and just as impressed by somebody running fast at the combine. And really, really fast. So anyways, without Jordan Davis on the board because at this point if that guy doesn't go on the top ten of this draft at the top 15, then I have no freaking clue what these teams are doing. I mean, come on. Right. So if we go on to the next one here, I think the next guy in line, if you're trying to get, look, I think devonte Wyatt is a really good player. He's definitely going to be a first rounder. He's somebody that I think can be more of like an end, right? Maybe a three technique defensive end, not necessarily true nose tackle. Travis Jones from Connecticut. If Jordan Davis didn't run like an absolute cyborg, then we'd be talking a lot more about Travis Jones workout on Saturday at the combine. Four 9 O official 40 yard dash for Travis Jones. He tested as an elite tester as well. Absolutely showed out at the senior bowl. He's somebody at the Patriots, checks a lot of boxes for New England as a one technos tackle senior bowl guy who played really well there, played locally at UConn. I think that he's the next guy in line for them on the defensive line if they still want to add another body next to bar more. Yeah, I mean, it depends which way they want to go, do they want to add a true nose or do they want to put another athlete next to barmore, right? We speculate on the last show. The guy like Perry on Winfrey. I think Jones, if they want to add that nose tackle, I mean, Jones is the guy the thing is now his stock is going up. Not only because he had a great combine, but Jordan Davis Jordan Davis is going to go even.

"So it's just, you really have to go by, I think you really have to scout these guys. I test. What do you see on a play by play to play basis? Because looking at the stats, looking how they were used overall in the big picture, the talent that was there as a whole really skews what each individual player did in the production they put out. That's why like when we talk about quay walker, you look at him compared to other linebackers in this class in terms of the production and he's like 30 to 40 tackles overall tackles solo tackles behind the guys. He's kind of comped with. Well, yeah, of course, but then on the other hand, it's like, he got 70 tackles or whatever it is. I think it's like actually low 80s. He got 80 tackles playing next to nicobi D when you factor that in, okay, that's impressive. Of course, Chad mama has a 140 tackles. Who's he play next to? Yeah. You know, white walkers play next to a first round pick. He still got to the ball carrier 80 times. Yeah, he also has great pressure per snap stats, right? Like the PFF metrics. That's the thing. You've got to look at it on a per snap basis. Yeah. Yeah, he's a really intriguing player. Probably kills it at the combine, probably goes a little bit higher than what the Patriots are going to be able to get him at. But again, there are, I know for a fact, there's still some teams that are super old school about production, right? And if you're going to adopt a guy at maybe a team that I think wouldn't care who has two picks ahead of the Patriots is like the Philadelphia Eagles. There are a team that no pun intended flocks to athletes. All they care about is measurables. Does give me a ball of clay and our coaches will work with that guy and figure it out figure it out. So maybe there are a team that jumps on a guy like Trayvon walker. You mentioned devonte Wyatt. We've talked about him a little bit as well on the show. Personally, I haven't rated extremely highly. He's my number two in this class. The problem that I have with a guy like him is a little bit redundant to Christian barmore. How do you get both of those guys on the field at the same time? I think as a conversation that they'll have to have, you can't have both of them play three technique, right? And there's three techniques on either side of the center, but you don't really, that's not really how you align. A defensive line is having two, three techniques on the other side of center. So how do you get both of those guys on the field at the same time and both be productive? That's going to be a question. Fantastic player, great prospect. I think it's going to be a back end of the first round guy, but you worry about his fit next to bar more, whereas with Jordan Davis, you know, Jordan Davis is going to be on the nose, borrower is going to be the three technique and the back and you go get it. A couple more defensive lines. It's real quick. I'd add to that too. If a guy like white, if that's the route they want to go, if they say, hey, let's just load up on athletes on the defensive line and we'll figure it out from there. Right. Well then you look at a guy like Perry on Winfrey who's going to go 60 pixel later. Comparable measurements and all of that. Why it's a really good player. There's a number of reasons why.
