"As has happened before police were called to the Devereaux Advanced Behavioral Health Center in League City. Our TV partner, Channel two spoke with one of the police officers. They began barricading the inside, put mattresses and chairs and computers and stuff up in front of the doors to keep us from gaining entry. The standoff lasted for about two hours. The offenders who are now in custody are ranging in age from 13 to 18. They're facing criminal charges for rioting after attacking staff members at Devereaux and causing approximately $40,000 in damages.

"All right. What's next met Abedin? Why aren't these idiots? Why aren't these idiots still in jail where they belong feel? You seem very passionate about this. So it's a really interesting thing and this was a question that we asked very early on with the FBI. Like why aren't people still in jail and for white collar crimes? As long as you don't kill someone or kidnaps someone. The sentencing usually aren't as extreme as you would think the next question is from Quin La Mort or the Morte. If you're Sassy did the quote unquote participants pay for the game. Pieces and then split. The winnings Jerry Colombo seems to be making out like a bandit Diddley ever get any money whereas Matthews. He needs his own podcast episode please. Exclamation Mark Exclamation Mark. Mark does a lot on pack every winter. A little bit different Jerry. Columba was worried that people would not actually pay up and there were a couple of cases where people did not want to pay their recruiters. Lee Actually did not get any money. Because Jerry Colombo died. She was waiting for it. She was asking him. It just never happened whereas math use the you never know you can never pin them down. He could be right next to you at this very moment. Undercover next question comes from. Trina Padilla. Is that right. Yeah okay good rap name is how is? Jerry's brother Frank able to so about his brother's dealings without the family being upset. According to frank he cleared it with the family to be able to talk to us and the reason he knows so much is because his older brother Jerry Colombo was one of his best friends and they apparently shared a ton together. Robin obviously helped fill in a lot of holes as well. And there's probably a lot about Jerry that we still don't know to this day next question for Maggie Marshall all caps big question that both me and my daughter have to the general public that played the McDonald's monopoly game sue. Mcdonald's we understand that McDonald's doesn't appear to be at Fault. However who's responsible for all of the hopefuls that kept going to McDonald's to get the game pieces yet? Didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. Mcdonald's knew that the moment that they agreed to help the FBI by running a game again to catch the person who is behind this they were going to get hit with a great deal of negative attention and there were a number of class action lawsuits. Against McDonald's. Next question is from Neil labarge from Hebrew Arizona. So far you've been quite kinds of McDonald's my question is I have read some material of the case on the Internet. That states uncle Jerry stole the winning monopoly game pieces under the justification that McDonald's was intentionally holding back the winning pieces for distribution solely in the USA. Mcdonald's purposefully not sending them to Canada where the game was also being played uncle. Jerry's justification being that the game is already rigged tampered with so I might as well get on board myself and make some money. Is this true? There is a great deal of speculation. It's something that Jerry Jacobson mentioned at trial. There's actually no evidence to corroborate this. We looked into it the FBI looked into it and in fact we found evidence that actually refuted this statement so even though he said it and it became public testimony. It actually just wasn't true as far as jerry being in the episodes well. You've now seen all of them and see that he's not in it but there might be some things in the future. We have had conversations with them all right. Well thank you for sending in all of those questions. We love answering them. That is it for episode six of the millions podcast. "Because this particular episode deals very much with the trial and the legal aspects we wanted to have mark Darrow and we felt that he could shed a little bit more light on the actual trial. The trial was here in Jacksonville here. In this building it lasted three weeks and it was almost like a couple of trials within a trial because once we have the overall scheme than had placed evidence just upon each of the defendants those grand hopes of being a million dollar winner says Jacobsen pocketed those pieces and in exchange for a cut of the prize gave them to friends and relatives. Mark is at that stage coming on very strong with lots of threats. Amanda Consequence Star. Client and terrible situation. Our cloud was in. How much time again. Generally we don't respond favorably to threats well without further ADO. Let's talk to former assistant. Us Attorney Marc Devereaux mark. Welcome to the shells. Happened to have a wiretap upon you guys so just just casual wiretap. Yeah just casual if your background is in military law initially as a Jag attorney and there was a TV. Show back in the nineties Jag. Which I don't know if that was actually they made. They made that after me. You know right. Yeah we we. We have to ask you about that. But in for for those who don't know what a Jag attorney is if you remember that movie few good men also you know you. Tom Cruise Tom. I had to give Tom a lot of advice on exactly how to. Carry HIMSELF FOR REAL LIKE UTAH. Okay sounds good earn. Well you know I. I knew that the TV show Jag was based on you. And we wanted to find out legitimately is that the case was that is that true. No no but you know. Hey if somebody will buy me a drink if I say it I'll say what is a Jag attorney. What is what is Jag actually stand for? Jag STANDS FOR JUDGE ADVOCATE. General's corps in so a Jag is just. That's an acronym. The military is full of acronyms. The most exciting thing is court martials of course and that's criminal and so that's where I ended up going into the when I went into the JAG corps. I enjoyed the courtroom enjoyed criminal law and I did both acted as both the prosecutor and Defense Counsel Curtis. Forget her helped you get your first job as a federal prosecutor and then Curtis Fall. Getter is now a defense attorney and he was the defense attorney for George Chandler in this case and you guys actually had to go ahead. And that's not the first time we went to head to head and it wasn't the last time the two of US frequently would be opposing parties. I'll just when I was a defense counsel in Europe and we ended up buying a label four bottles of wine they were making in Germany. Our Name was on the bottle of wine. I remember brought one to my interview and I put it on the desk. Your interview with with with Curtis. Forget her with Curtis fog. I put the bottle and it had you know my name on it and added the three individuals and Curtis being one of them. That were interviewing me. I know for a fact. The other two didn't WanNa hire me. Curtis did without Curtis. I wouldn't have been there. Well you've had a chance now to see the entire series. And what is your impression of the overall story as laid it out? I guess the best way to say it is if we went out to the store and bought a coloring book. You could open the coloring book and you see okay. We'll there is mickey mouse or Ronald McDonald. And we've got a color it basically. I think we ended up having the coloring book. And what you guys have done with the investigation at you. Did you put the color to it? I learned a lot and I think all of us have. You're just looking at it. As did you break the law? How did you break the law? Who were you conspiring with to break the law? And what evidence is there to support that? You're exactly correct and it was very clear. I think when you considered like Jerry Jacobson the kingpin Jerry. We knew absolutely that he was the one taking the game pieces however we never knew exactly how he did that and it was not until I had worked out a deal with his council that we were able to actually learn exactly how he did it at the point that we indicted him. We just knew that he had done this. We didn't know how the with the arrest you send out. Fbi agents and they make the actual arrests. Are you there for the arrest of Jerry Jacobson? I was not an the reason is simple. Let's just say that I was present at the time he was arrested. And let's say he ended up making a statement or he didn't make the statement and the FBI said he did make statement. I end up being a witness of his arrest and so I knew not to put myself in the situation where I become a witness. You know I'm a phone. Call Away for them to talk to. We flew to Washington I briefed Attorney General Ashcroft in his office his personal office then that evening. I flew with Rick Dent down to Atlanta and this was not in the bureau plane right with the tide bottle or was it no bureau plane. We actually flew on on a commercial aircraft because that other one leaves something to be desired like like comfort. Rick Dent Nye flew down from Washington DC TO ATLANTA. Get in somewhere around midnight. And then we got up about four and I was in the boardrooms there at the F. B. I. Office I had a couple of phones and I'm getting phone calls from everybody. And they also were calm down to the command center which is actually in Jacksonville and we basically had the plan. Hey if the guy cooperates just let them have a nice day which you know they won't could have beaten rolaids and those that basically told us to pound sand arrest them. Give them some jewelry silver handcuffs. We had ballpark one hundred twenty f. b. i. agents across the country. We had eight people that we were going to arrest. And of course you know Dougie Doogie Howser Matthews. He wanted to be number one and he was number last now. Have you ever had a case where you had this many defendants there was fifty three people who were ultimately indicted? That's absolutely the largest number for me in one case. Yes I've had several where you get into double digits. But it's usually very few over ten. You like to prosecute people in ties. I liked to prosecute people in ties because the person that generally wear a tie is in a situation where the only reason they're committing the crime that they are as greed that green monster and that green monster has made so many people for so many years decades actually ruin so many lives in this case. You know we knew from the beginning even if we have this fraud. Mcdonald's is still going to stand and I remember telling Attorney General John Ashcroft at the end of my presentation to him tomorrow is a good day. But it's also going to be a bad day and I remember asking me why a bad day and I said because I already knew that. Mcdonald's was going to sever ties with Simon Marketing and I knew what that man that meant. Simon Marketing was going to die. There was really honest. God only one bad apple and it didn't spoil a basket full of apples. He ended up causing so many people to lose their jobs and lose their life savings. Their stock dropped the most of any stock in one day in the history of the world or at least it at the time it did even think about Jerry Jacobson. Did he think about that? No and the problem is so many people do things and they don't think about the repercussions of their conduct. He probably rationalized. Hey somebody's got to be the winner. So why can't it be you know? What does it matter? Mcdonald's Hick they're still making their money. I'm not hurting anybody. But you know that's the people that rationalize and when people don't follow the rules and they intentionally don't do that for their own. Personal gain generally look in there. And there's it's a crime. People think of this story as a victimless crime. And we really wanted to make sure that by the end of the whole series people realize that there are great consequences for what might be a seemingly small act of telling a white lie if Jacobson stood back just for a minute. He was the absolute head of security for Simon. Marketing and Simon Marketing is not just a a small market from it was across the world literally across the world. Why did people go to Simon Marketing? Because of their integrity their security and he ends up breaching all of that. Why for greed for his own benefit. You think. He might have thought well if McDonald's found out about this don't you think McDonalds would fire you and what's that GonNa do? Apparently never thought about that or he didn't care. One of the two fifty. Three people are indicted and most of them pled. What actually goes into working on a plea deal? How do those negotiations work? I ended up having to make sure that I treated everybody fairly.

"Robinson joined by my co host Devereaux Peters. Hey, dev. Hey to time, that's too. That's deuce. That's dose. Thank you for WNBA championships. Yes, you got that right this week. And to Rica Rica, foster Bradsby my fantastic, if fabulous producer on the show ladies up just give me a little like what's the vibe right now? Like what's going on not much over here? I'm just living life. I'm just enjoying watching Dan fight off. That was crazy, right? Out of pocket. Like I did not say nothing about. I don't know why. But look for the people that did not listen to last week show, you should because we did a nice preview of the season, we talked about what we're looking forward to our, you know, MVP predictions rookie of the year predictions all of those different things and Dev had to do prediction for rookie of the year. And as most of, you know, she is a Notre Dame alum. And there are five rookies in the WNBA out of Notre Dame, which is awesome. Let me just say that it will talk about I'm sure Jess shepper later in the show after the weekend she had. But that's a lot so muffins, do something right? Let's just knowledge that, but for death to have to pick out of five. A one that she thought we didn't we didn't restrict her to Notre Dame players just let me say that by she was going to pick someone from Notre Dame because that's who she is already. But so what did you say? What did what why would you getting into it with the people? All I said, was that Jackie put them in a position for a ricotta. Hit the shots in a reggae hit the shots. And we will then that's just what happened. And there was a certain person that was upset and said I diminished. Rica's value by saying that. And I don't I don't understand how is simply said what happened? Jackie is the reason that they were able to get to a point where Rica could hit those two shots for them to win the championship. That's it. I mean that's just what happened. I don't understand in what way that diminishes anything Rica does. 'cause I mean without her hitting it we went to one. So I don't know. I have no idea what the purpose was. But I'm definitely going to say that I'm not one of these, like participation trophy people, you know, like. If we have to get a clear cut rookie of the year, and I'm gonna tell you why picked them like don't get upset. If you wanna give Rica, the rookie year that's fine. Tweet her. I don't. Well, I actually said that I sent to Riga make sure you check with death before we send this out. Right. Because like we're not trying to finish people and we're definitely not trying to have the Irish in your mentions. Like that just doesn't feel right? And so, I was like, let's run this by them. But she said, what she said, I was just gonna say deaf, text me back. Like I said, what I said. Okay. Listen, he said, what she said. So anyway, yes, there's been a lot of great things having on Twitter. We'll spark some of those conversations as we're talking today, but what we're gonna do. The show is kind of debate kind of discuss. Some of our takeaways from opening weekend. We'll do a little preview of the big matchup between Phoenix in Las Vegas scheduled for this Friday. How would you feel if I get you a gift card so that you can come back to our establishment, very soon, and hopefully not have to deal with this situation? Drew? I have never never what never what I think. You know, exactly what I'm talking about you trying to sleep with me as well. Well, it's obvious. What you mean by gift card and pleasurable experience? Ma'am. I am not trying to sleep with you. I'm just trying to make things right? And I know exactly what you mean by trying to make things right now. I'm here to tell you right now. Mr. drew, I accept your offer. I accept. Excuse me. Yes, I will sleep with you absolutely set. What's going on? What's going on? I'm a bad hop on the phone, call my grandson, see if he can give me a ride down to your establishments. So you can give me a good what for? I do I do not want to give you what for. I don't even know what that is. Well, drew that is a shame. And I'm just going to go ahead and let you know, this is a prank phone call. Then. That's right. Because this is actually Jubal from Brooke and Jubal in the morning doing a phone tap on you, and your employees Tabitha set you up. She says you get complaint calls all the time. And don't know how to handle that. I didn't know what to do. Are they talking about some guy hold the door? Trying to sleep would be that guy. That's right. Mr drew. I know exactly what you're looking for you on some Charlotte. Lou Deborah's peach pad, I'm bringing it straight to your dose. He's got a bad here..
