"And one of the focuses. We really wanted to have on this. Podcast was the breakdown. The all twenty two but unfortunately no. I haven't got it yet. I got some sent to me. Didn't get a dive into as much as i wanted to. Nfl game pass still. Isn't working jake. Devan holland played absolutely out of this world. He was the highest graded rookie fry. Eighty two point five grade. The second is on team. We saw that force fumbling had on johnny smith. But for me. Jake you know yes. He's at upgrade. At least i thought over bobby mccain and coverage you know maybe not the the verbal communication or by thought. He had that better silent silent better in pass coverage but what he brings to. The run defense is just a mess. We saw johnny smith hit. We seem dropping down the box. And he's just doesn't seem like the games too big. He's not scared. Get skinny and make those hits which you know. I hate to bring up minkah fitzpatrick but that was something that a lot of fans didn't quite like or you know he was a little upset about so for me. Jake i excited to see which yvonne hall does it says you know. He was not targeted once on sixteen coverage snaps. I just want to see more. I wanna see more of him out there. I wanna see more the young brandon jones. I want to see what they can do. You know we're talking about the run game and stop and josh on wall. Can he do in that aspect nine again. The coverage i think he's already improving so tavon had a big week. I'm excited to see where he's going to move on from that. Josh emma bonino thinks it's like really crazy and i don't think it's necessarily incidence like we played a rookie safety against the new england patriots. His first game ever and he was not targeted. Once i mean. I feel like if you're trying to find something that just sounds completely off about this game. That's it and that's where i kinda go back to the patriots. Dur they were going to do precept. I mean most of the completions to nick needham. Xavien howard byron jones. I think the patriots were six of eight boeing apples guys but it was for like thirty five yards so i think it just really goes back to that game plan and it just i just have a hard time believing that giovane holland isn't a guy that the patriots would wanna try at least literally once and that didn't seem to be the case and again maybe that's just because they were trying to handcuff mack jones and didn't want to go out there and make some of those mistakes. I mean. i'm sitting in prison. John holum we talked about how he wasn't targeted but the buffalo bills brian to bowl net buffalo bills offense. They're going to try to attack the secondary because for as good as an existing howard is byron jones. Like you said a little bit of that. Those big plays came on some of those deeper passes against an error-prone some of those other guys so huge tests this week again. I think it's going to be complete night and day from what we saw last week but giovanni game one wasn't targeted like you said it's crazy from bill belichick coach team. And you see why. I mean i think the biggest aspect of beach thousand twenty one draft. The miami dolphins is. They took the first defensive end and they took the first safety. They had their letter. And those are the guys they chose so to see how it performed as well. I mean is a great You know encouraging sign this early in the season. Just one more thing. I want to talk about here in the defensive backfield That popped out to me. Was the fact that justin coleman play just to snaps after. It seemed like he was the guy who won the starting job. I don't wanna take anything against nikkan. take anything away from victim because i thought he was also but do you have a feeling that maybe this was game plan to where the patriots who use a lot of those two tight end sets hunter henry and johnny smith they might think need to simply works better as a slot when you have to cover those guys were just in. Coleman is going to be better suited you actually based on actual slot corner those a little bit guys to a little bit more wiggle to. That's a good question. Jake namino again. I wish i had the all twenty two sooner dive into that. But i mean how much of this is just a testament to how little you know. We should put into a brian floors. Depth chart just in coleman's up there. I'm thinking need nicknames. Listed nickel spot. But i mean again we saw what type of asset he wasn't a preseason. We saw it this past week. And so i don't really know jake. I think we all kind of thought. Justin coleman was going to have the inside track. They're probably going to see a lot more on this week with buffalo spreading the dolphins out trying to do those things but That's definitely something that sticks out especially when everyone wants to sit here and say jalen phillips sterling depth chart. This is a big deal. You look justin coleman. I mean that's per prime example. You're one hundred right now josh. We're going to do it. I don't know if you wanna do it can can we talk punter just a little bit. Can we talk about the butter. Yeah let's do it. I mean i don't want to. we can it just. Seems like specialties are just so used to that being such a sound unit for the dolphins and if there's any type of noise happening it's usually a good thing for the dolphins and i'm not gonna say Party played poorly and it certainly seemed like he kicked with a purpose. I mean that thing kind of was a rocket right off his foot. it didn't really get the height. You're looking for it just can't seem to be like lying. Drives your hip for contact. Hit four points with an average of forty five yards per which ranks twenty one at twenty three possible punters in net yards after week one. That's great. I wonder if the dolphins one position battle even a little more. Maybe we can get a little greedy. And say maybe the past score single touchdown or maybe one of those feels off the board. Maybe the dolphin start with better field position as a result of just kind of the movement from one end of the field to the other he had no pun so the twenty and just one touchback so just using it in that stood out in terms of party. It seemed like he does have that rocket. Line drive but Key these numbers. Were kinda bad or am. I kind overreacted. You love to see that but I the dolphins are gonna know right away if they made a mistake because matt hawk you know he brought a little bit of a different element and what we saw from michael At least the quarterback position a little bit of a surprise. That i didn't talk about on. It's kind of an injustice. We didn't talk about and that's the fact. That in austin jackson was activated off the codeless of board the game last week but it was all liam i can burn. He didn't decent job considering. Its first gabe josh. Is that the way it's going to be as Berg are starting left. Tackle now or is awesome jackson being back as gonna separate back in and maintain that starting role again. "Safety out of oregon. You know high draft. Pick a gun. The dolphins brought in here got rid of bobby mccain. How is he going to handle. You knew that game situation because what we've heard all these long you know throughout training camp. I mean we heard what three interceptions and four practices think he picked off any for pick six also. I won't justin feels reportedly. So i mean how devan holland gonna go out there. How's he going to get those. The rest of that secondary in place. And you know do some of those things that have veteran linked bobby mccain did and then you also have here brandon jones. I mean again. A young safety started four games last year against the patriots chargers denver and the patriots again played thirty eight percent of teams snaps. And you also have your jason mccourty is currently has started and i think you know a lot of that is because he is a veteran presence. He has got it understands. His defense can get those you know the corners and the rest of that defense align a little bit better than obviously a rookie but again if giovane holland do half the things that we continue to hear that. He's doing a camp. I mean that just seems like a homerun cy a homerun draft pick and you know when so many people wanted to running back. It was like so against the grain for the dolphins to go that route again. We're already hearing. That's paying dividends. All bite in practice yet just. I wanted to bear. Branded joins me by him. In different players the vet that jones started or played thirty eight percents snaps last season. Just kinda gave me the idea of. What can we expect from. How how'd you know have written down here. How long japan. How would be held out. We don't know how much is going to be eased in the system. We don't know of brantford. You know it's one loss in the trenches and and this offensive line can't go out there and open up some of those holes can't protect to. It's going to be a long season. But i'm glad you brought up blankenburg because i think i alluded to it on the last podcast. No he was demoted. Is actually an injury. So now you have him yet believe. Jessie davis banged up. You know i heard some people say panky was taken reps or right tackle. I mean. I don't know what the dolphins had planned. In mind. You know when they obviously. Dj fluker obviously. They had to like jesse davis. If the worst case scenario. So i i do understand their plan but at the same time you know to think that you're gonna be able to go out there. And that is your best bet to protect. In your franchise quarterback that does make me feel a little bit uneasy and then you mentioned the center position. I mean that is up in arms. We brought him matt scurr. You know michael dealers taken over that role again. I don't know if that's good or bad. So i wanna see how they handle the defensive line for sure but I'm not going to say that you know i mean. I think you're trying to say that it shouldn't be as bad as you know it could be. But if we've learned anything in the past you know it's definitely going all inspire and it's gonna look you know doom and gloom and it's going to be all we're talking about is horrid offensive line day long for weeks. Can we named this episode. It shouldn't be as bad as it could be because that is sixty really is. It's our story of her life. That is incredible. Kind of the point. You know. I just don't wanna be setting year later tonight. I don't wanna be sitting here waiting till next week's game saying that. Well the offensive line. Excuse x. y. and z. I think that if the dolphins are showing concerns here week. One of the preseason. It doesn't mean they won't fix it. It doesn't mean they didn't have a plan in place Plan doesn't work in those. Are the doubt start tab and just these two are linked here so switching over. Can we see any big plays from the running back group and this one. Seventeen for the. Las vegas raiders. What was your initial reaction. Because i know heidi first and foremost great to be here. I had a great time in cleveland. So far it's been a heck of an experience. Glad you're here With said In terms of your question definitely surprised right definitely surprised Not surprising right tackle. i Continued to voice leading up to the draft. I thought right tackle away to go was an obvious. Need in the offense of line of ministry of this team despite its it's consistent struggles. Last year's the offensive line was a pretty reliable unit and lot of turnover tram. Browns gone just going to be some reshuffling move out gave jackson you move out and you knew there was going to have to be some adjustments made and there was a glaring hole the right tackle and they went with right tackle so i they feel the need but just now player. I thought they'd fill that need with and you look at how the board was shaking out. Thought christian dare saw. I was going to be big especially considering what his grade was. And and and where. The raiders were picking. He wasn't now that said just because alex leatherwood is a surprise and we didn't expect him to be there doesn't mean he won't be a good player but it feels like more often than not the raiders. Under jon gruden. Mike mayock have reached for players that they could have gotten later and are maximizing the value of their first round picks damon are net in twenty twenty was a good example. That and even cleveland farrell. Who's a very good player by the way in the top five and twenty nineteen so a couple so with that in mind. I think alex leatherwood at trend. But the jury's still out on how good he's going to be i think he has a lot of potential beauge player was an all american big-time film comes from a big time program and he's gonna get his opportunity to prove mike. Megan jon gruden ryan look. I want to be optimistic about this. But i think there were other guys that were on the board. That had a lot of potential. And the raiders did go out here and they went out on a limb but let's take a look at some of the numbers here. He's a six six guy. Three hundred twenty pounds co recipient of the jacobs blocking trophy. He played eight hundred and thirty. Two snaps twenty twenty only allowing two sacks in that season might mean. He's a good football player and that's not to say he can't step in and start at right tackle from day one and and be a really good player. Maybe he plays guard. I'm not really sure He played guard in college at alabama. Yes experience a bo positions. I assume he's gonna play right back or at least that's a spot. He's going to compete at right away But we'll see now. That said i think they got him in the second round. I think they could have got him in the second round. But you never know the way. The sport is shaking out the top free safety on the board a top fifteen or twenty prospects. Von marriage is still there The the linebacker notre dame is still there so you never know with these with these with these drafts. Maybe the raiders can recoup some value in the second round if they nail the pick in the end they get somebody that was great at a little higher. But but alex other what is certainly not what i expected and i don't know if anybody expected that so we'll see what happens. We'll see some of the reactions already on my timeline much similar to yours. I had one raider fan. Gross said neither the picks that you know they were thinking was Gonna be picked with there so a lot of people obviously agreeing with that sentiment that you had their sam so we still have forty eight like you said and there's some good names quality names that are left on the board. What do you think is in the mind of raiders. Coming up tomorrow in round two. Well the we know that the raiders came into this draft for glaring needs to glaring holes. Right tackle which they addressed right with alexander would free safety. And i expect them to go free safety in that second round and they have a number of options right i the guy i liked was devan holland out of oregon who was all pac. Twelve caliber player sat out the twenty twenty season in wake of the coronavirus pandemic for the last time we saw him. In two thousand nineteen he was one of the best players in the pac twelve. Big time player. Or you can go. Richie grant safety out of central florida. Another big time player so i think both guys have the skill set the tools to come in and start day one and be an impact player and gus bally's Cover three scheme. But then again as we come to learn about mike mac and john you never know you never know. They might go in a completely different direction. So i expect them at some point to address at the safety position whether that's in the second round of the third round but obviously the higher the earlier you that the chances the higher your chances are of getting a better player so it's interesting of options to to say the least but see. Yeah so you say safety just to mix things up. I'm going to say they go with another offense lineman just because i'm just throw it out there. I'm not gonna name somebody. I'm just saying that's what they probably will do. Sam we have been here This week here. In cleveland and we had the opportunity to do a lot of things. You particularly you got to go to canton. You had a piece on that. You interviewed a raiders fan fan of the year that came out and she's actually announcing pig on saturday. We'll get into that a little bit more as you start to kind of reflect on your experience here what stood out to you. Yeah i think what stood out to me. Heidi and this is you know. Full full disclaimer First time covering an nfl draft. But just how communal it's become and how a football festival in really a celebration of football. It's not about the draft anymore. And that's kind of what the nfl was aiming for this event on the road in two thousand fifteen right at had been radio city music hall for so long and it had just been about football and and it'd been the same thing over and over and over again and credit to the nfl for adapting and really integrating the city. And the reason we're here. Heidi writers because the vegas draft the thousand twenty two. We we kind of wanted to get a feel for what it might be like in what come to learn. It's really a showcase of the city. It showcase for the city's culture showcase of all the things that make cleveland unique in as as we record as podcast in a science center that sits on lake erie were a couple blocks away from first energy stadium with the browns play. That's being utilized for fans to enjoy the experience to be a part of the experience and workable blocks away from the rock and roll hall of fame so we kind of saw the blueprint for what The nfl had in mind for vegas last year. And twenty twenty one. The draft was supposed to come. And i imagine league's going to build on that moving forward as they prepare for twenty twenty two so that that's what stands out to me and it just how passionate of sports city cleveland is and how rich the tradition and culture is in. I think especially matters because the browns are good like the browns are really really good now. And i think that makes it all the more exciting as early surprised that i came out here. It's raining and You have all these fans that are braving. The weather becoming out here. China make their way through the experience which as earlier on in the week a lady from the nfl nikki ill-will told us that the browns play when there's rain so the fans will come out and play in the rain too and they certainly did so. The experience here has been really something just thinking about all the different aspects. Like you said of what we got to witness to participate in. And i wanna get into a fan experience. "That's how good they are. So i know a lot of raider fans aren't going to like it but the afc west goes through kansas city until proven otherwise. I mean if you're going to you're going to beat the champ or you got to be the you've got to beat the champ and they are the champs right now. They beat them once. You've got to be able to find a way to do that. Consistently. and so. that's the great thing about the chiefs raiders. Rivalry it makes it that much more sweet and you know the chiefs are gonna wanna go into twenty twenty. One and and beat the raiders. Take forgetting that win arrowhead. And the raiders are gonna wanna beat the cheese forgetting that win in las vegas. You know they're gonna wanna get their respect back. So i think it's going to really increase the like the the level of intensity for that rivalry because for the most part it'd been lopsided and the raiders and done too much but at least it's one eight hundred twenty twenty. They were able to split with kansas city. Yeah that was big huge nauseous. It was like the super bowl for them. If you will be able to take that win and do it over. In kansas city.
