"There have to be college kids that are going to be. I mean just it has to be and that's obviously not fair and it is what it is but it just has. It would be a statistical anomaly if all those teams sixty eight of the NCAA tournament teams. Didn't have somebody infected and you just have to limit the contact with people and limit sort of interaction. And that's why I don't see the tournament's most start next week who knows if it'll be postponed or whatever but that's why I just don't see a taking place at least starting next week I do want to ask you this Ryan You know I want to talk about the financial impact of this. The obviously you mentioned the situation before the season in China this season in general has to be one of the most notable seasons in the history of the NBA. Obviously you have the Daryl. Morey thing at the start of the season with China and the tweet and how that cost the NBA. The money that you had obviously to prominent Dasan former commissioner David Stern and Kobe Bryant and now this thing the NBA has had to deal with a lot this year. And I WANNA ask you from from a speaker from a strictly financial aspect between the China. Preseason thing with Daryl Morey and now this and potential revenue being lost from the end of the regular season. Maybe even going into the playoffs. How does this impact a leak financially going forward Cerruti? Wh One thing to touch back on college basketball real quick and I'll get to that as producers reporting in our ear and this is all real time happening as college basketball teams. Take the court to warm up some of these conference tournaments and then getting pulled off the floor. Almost every major college has now canceled games. I read quickly the SEC. Acc others have canceled their games. But again for me it comes down to leadership or lack thereof Adam. Silver took that decision out of the hands of each team individually instead the league. Is Cancelling Games mark emerged in charge of? Ncwa has not spoken up and is leaving it. Up to these conferences individually the conference commissioners in the in the school presidents and and luckily those guys got together From from the reporting reading here in the last five or ten minutes and they made the decision not to go forward. But it's just a mess again for me. I think that people are GonNa look smart in hindsight. Hopefully when this is over weeks from now maybe not not be months from now. It may may may continue to go on for awhile but whenever it's over. I think we'll look back in hindsight at the people who are proactive. And took steps precaution. Precautionary in aggressive. Look a lot better in hindsight than the people like Mark Emmer who are wishy washy and said well you know we. We already have fans here. So let's play the game so let's play the games with limited fans. We're let's have the players take the court or I read one of the conferences. I can't remember which one it might have been. The MAC was still trying to test the players individually before they took the court and play the game. And if you're doing that just stupid like like what do you think is going to happen? Or how do you think this is going to be? Okay so sorry off on a tangent I it can trust Adam. Silver's Leadership League office to a lot of what we see going on real time right now in the NCW which which is topical today because it's just after noon eastern and that's when on conference tournament on Thursday that's usually when the game start on the east coast. The ball goes up in the air at noon. And they play up to four games a day in these various leaks skilling bells guest. What's up everybody it's Rudy. Thanks for listening to the Scallon Powell's PODCAST REMEMBER. You can watch or listen. Live every day from eleven. "Pick ME UP FOR BUSY. Hardworking people hale like if I want more tropical pace. Can I just bail like right now? Can I just go to the Bahamas or whatever for a couple of days and I don't understand why I have to be here the NBA on suspension. Yeah vacation scale. Although I will say this might my. My parents were supposed to go on a trip to Jamaica. There are places that I'd like to travel has been obviously restricted. You can't go to Europe. Obviously as president trump mentioned last night. There's a thirty day travel ban starting on Friday so I don't know I'm not sure if that'll be extended so Scott you might. You might be stuck. You may be stuck in Boston in the cold weather. Just hanging out watching Netflix. For a while I got a lot of stuff to do here man. During the season I put off a lot of a lot. I don't do you know me. I'm all about work my yard. Whatever it is. I'm the season I don't do a lot of work at the house so I got a lot of stuff that I can do on the list before I go. I'm going to need that five hour energy. I guarantee you definitely definitely all right. Well Pumped welcome in our resident. Gm Ryan mcdonagh here now to the conversation and Scott like we haven't really had an open conversation about it so I think we should do this with mcdonagh right now. We WanNa get to some of the financial impact a little bit later of what the what. The season being suspended will have an impact as salary caps free agency draft all that stuff but Ron I'll open up to you and we'll just have just general discussion because we haven't done that yet. Your thoughts on everything. That went down last night obviously finding out the news that go bare had tested positive. Now we have also learned that Donovan. Mitchell was tested positive and then subsequently quickly after that league suspends the Season Indefinitely. Your initial thoughts run morning guys. Thanks for having me on my initial thoughts. Were just surprise or curiosity when I was watching the Oklahoma City Utah Jazz game last night I had it on and honestly I I was about to turn the TV off and go in for dinner out here in the West Coast and people were tweeting. And they're saying on the broadcast something is happening and you're sitting there watching say well what is happening. What could that possibly be? The teams were already on the court. They were out there. On the benches the officials around the court looked like the game was going to start and then there was a you know uncertainty. There was some questions about what happened. Why the game wasn't starting. It was great to have Sarah on to start the show from from Utah and and I imagine that the uncertainty in the building was pretty high in terms of what's happening and what's going on. And then you see the tweets that the police in Oklahoma City have been called to the building and your first concern is something serious in. It was something serious so it was just a bizarre night guys. I think let let me put it this way. I Give Adam silver in the league. A lot of credit for being proactive and being aggressive it getting players testing tested having the testing available and as soon as they found out that Rudy Gobert tested positive for not only postponing that game but shutting down the League. I think the second step maybe took a little longer than it should have. I'm sitting on my couch getting ready to watch the PELICANS kings game and saying what. Why is this game going to be played? I understand why they would finish the Games in progress but saying why would they start a new game? They already suspended one game tonight in Oklahoma City. Why would they then start a brand new game? Especially when an official Courtney? Kirkland had worked two nights before he'd worked on Monday night in Salt Lake Jazz game so a lot of conflicting thoughts and emotions as I'm sure most of our listeners had as well but more than anything guys I give Adam silver credit for his leadership in for being proactive and not putting the players and people around these teams at risk. Going forward all surprised prized that. Nba Player got the corona virus. And this is now a widespread thing not really scale because it seems like it is so contagious. I mean it seems like it's so contagious. And you know better than anybody having played for a decade plus in the League and now on the media side being in locker rooms being around the team if somebody gets it somebody else is going to get it nearby now the reporting this morning as you guys were on airs that Donovan Mitchell also tested positive but nobody else in the jazz. Traveling Party did which scale knows that the traveling party is not just the fifteen players and the coaches on the bench. It's security it's trainers it's PR people it. There's a huge Traveling Party with these organizations that typically runs upwards of fifty to sixty people. So the fact that it's only Rudy Gobert Donovan. Mitchell overalls a good thing but what Sarah said you know when we start the show. That doesn't mean everybody's out of the woods yet that doesn't mean that somebody else won't test positive day from now or a week from now we can have from now so the the uncertainty is really concerning. And that's why I think the League doesn't have a choice. Frankly sorority the thing. That's on my mind. This morning the most is not NBA related. It's college basketball related. And I'm looking at these conference tourneys last. I read as a five minutes ago before I came on air with you guys that we're planning on going forward and I'm saying why are they doing that? Why is the NC double a? And why are the college conference? Commissioners putting the athletes and the coaches and the spectators in those positions. Yeah did seem I you know they had made the decision before the NBA had decided to spend the season before the rudy. Gobert news came out that they were gonNA play with no fans or at least limited fans in the in the in the arenas tournament now knowing what we know. Now it does feel like. That's not gonNA happen right. There's I mean I. I can't imagine the NCAA tournaments happening. I mean there have been already schools. I believe Yale has basically taken all their players and a couple of other Ivy League schools. The Ivy League is basically cancelled their conference tournament altogether. So I- Scott can't imagine the. Ncaa tournament is going to happen. Next week I mean I don't know if it gets postponed but I cannot imagine it happening at all. There's like it would be a PR nightmare. The N. T. W. already in hot water. It Sky why you make a decision to play it like. They're so disconnect they just need like someone was some logic and reason that works. There cannot do this. What obviously you've been around and the Celtics are one of the teams that has obviously been in contact with the jazz over the last couple week. Two weeks they put him twice in the last two weeks. I believe have you. You've been around players. You've been around Bradley. What have they been talking? Or what have they been saying? I've seen I've seen the last of the players not not one. I haven't seen one. I've been in the same room and I haven't seen any celtics happier and I have one interview with Brad. But I kept my eight-foot distance. I didn't stop up any. I didn't even make eye contact. I don't know this thing is transmitted through icon. I didn't talk to a single person during the Indiana game. I don't fly on the team playing. I'm my own. This was all designed by me. I'm not I'm not doing this. I'm not getting sucked into the bubble of the traveling party bubbles get todd right now and what she has to jump through. I'm not jumping through hoops. I'm at home right now because I stayed away. Six to eight feet away from all them guys well because it's because you're part of the team and obviously around in these arenas NBC. I don't work for the Celtics. Were Fair enough but I mean we did see like that. You Know Utah. Alabama their announcers did did get tested. They haven't told you anything about they said. Hey Go home and you'll figure it out. No I don't I don't I don't even talk to them. I don't I got nothing from them and by the way this is not. I'm not lying. I do not travel on the team playing and I really do not travel on the team plane once. I told you I think this thing was going to kick off and it was going to spread so I didn't know it was going to be the Celtics or anybody but I knew I know how these things work. The police come and they say quarantine and next thing. You know you're like and by the way when you're broadcaster not a player you push way to the bottom like way way way to the bottom so when they start testing at ten. Am I'm sorry I ten PM. You get tested at five o'clock in the morning so believe me like I kept away from all these guys ever since I would say even before the Utah Game. I was away from all these guys. I. This ain't my first Rodeo here. I know how these things work as prepared. He has he listens. Someone accused some people not being prepared. Scale had a plan and was very much prepared. The and the another interesting part of this guys is that you can basically connect all thirty. Nba teams to each other. And just the last five days based on like who was played who write all these you know. Throw the officials in the equation as well. That's what happened. I believe last night. And Ron you brought it up in the PELICANS kings game. I'm sitting there at home going. Why they're shooting around getting ready to play this game. It didn't look like there was really anybody in the stand. You're going why are they going to? What's the point of playing this game? Later comes out an official had a couple of days before beneficial in the Utah Jazz game. And they you know. Put the Kabosh on that which seemed like a one hundred percent the right decision. I almost always surprised where either you guys surprised that. They didn't just Stop Games. In the middle. Like the what was the game going on The mavs and the and the nuggets went on. There are a couple of games going on. I was even a little bit surprised. Ryan that they didn't call those games. And just hey like for the sake of everybody. We might as well just everybody here right now. I think society because it evolves so quickly because it happened so quickly keep in mind that the game in Oklahoma City Oklahoma's on central time and so a lot of the Games on the east coast. It started either a half an hour or an hour prior to that game tipping off so I was watching the Atlanta New York game and you could tell during the game that players starting to get word that what's going to happen. The League is going to be suspended after the game tonight. And it's going to be shut down and give on a different note. I give Lloyd Pearson the Hawks a lot of credit for putting Vince Carter back into the game. If that is Vince his last game. Obviously we hope it's not but that was kind of at least they had a heads up and could give Vince a swansong and of course. Because it's Vince Carter. He comes in and drills a three in this last shot and the crowd goes nuts but Yeah I I I. I don't see a point of stopping games. I mean look. You're already in the arena. The fans are in the arena. The fifteen players in east side the coaches the officials would a half an hour less exposure reduce risk. Maybe incrementally but I think whatever it happened to that point probably wouldn't change as much going forward as far as players coming in contact with each other or the officials or the coaches or the fans. That had already been done. I think the moment they walked in the building so I don't know how you could have made that significantly worse by playing the second half of the fourth quarter whatever it was so I understood that part of it. I didn't understand the hesitation to try to go forward with the PELICANS kings game that made no sense. One game had already been postponed so I'm glad they postponed both of them and I'm glad they..

"You. Know wait this out and You know practice social distancing and try to get to a point where again a few weeks from now things can slowly start to ramp back up and we can Get back underway. But I mean you know. We're talking about a microscopic organism right like and you know if we come back in. May when we come back in. May somebody gets sick again right like I mean it's just all of this is just completely uncharted territory on every level that There is no road map So when you ask like what what are teams can do and what a player's GonNa do and one of the next steps I I mean I think the safest answer to say is that just. Nobody's really sure right now. And over the next twenty four hours to forty eight hours. I think that's what the NBA is going to be trying to do with the teams. Try to come up with You know as much of a uniform policy as they can to try to keep everybody healthy and try to hopefully navigate the league through You know arguably the demo. Obviously you know it's the most important thing right now is containing this thing making sure that other people who are infected or you can obviously don't spread it to other people in the NBA action. Last night showed that. But you know looking forward which is the NBA is going to have to do. I mean you have to like a lot of these arenas are already booked out in the summer. Like how. How difficult of a situation is it going to be to just pushed the season back? I mean I think people are just play into July and August well I imagine a lot of those arenas already have commitments and things. That are already being done so. Is there a chance that we do that? The season doesn't end that it would just start over next year. I mean listen I I think at this point. I wouldn't rule anything else right. I mean I. I wouldn't rule out the season Being done I wouldn't rule out Next year being truncated I wouldn't rule out Season ending in August. I mean I think you have to say right now that we just don't know where this is going right so I think all options would have to be on the table You know it's just a it's it is just really really difficult to look at the situation and know exactly how stuff is going to go to your point about the scheduling. Rita's I mean. There is some benefit I think in that generally The concert schedule in the summer months. It's going to be more of an outdoor variety right so You know I think I. I mean honestly. It's going to be some complications but I think generally leagues you know. We'll be able to work around that and You know they have to move concerts around him and legion compensate. Action stuff right. I mean they have enough money to make stuff works so you know. I don't think I mean it will be complicated. But I think they'll be able to I think they'll be able to find a way to get it done. I think the bigger issue is going to be figuring out when that point is that we can get everybody back on the court and be passed the risk of contagion right and then also trying to mitigate the possibility of another case happening and how they shut everything down again. Because you would think there's another player that could tracks it the probably GonNa have to suspend lead again and we're GONNA be right back at square one so it's just all of this is just incredibly complex stuff to try to sort out and you know we're we're way closer to the beginning of this thing in the end and I think trying to You know declare today. Here's what's going to happen and here's how it's going to happen. I think is a fool's errand because I think we just don't know where this is going. How it's going to impact not just the NBA. But you know all across professional sports for a long time to come and Tim brought up interesting point this morning and saying. Don't everyone out there. Don't assume that if this thing goes away in the summertime that is not back next year like we don't know this and it is a strong possibility that it does ramp back next year. So then what does that mean as we go forward so definitely the most trying times in the NBA right now as far as the uncertainty is and but I don't I don't know what happens from here and I don't think anybody knows not even the League office. No question I I mean scowl I. I think that's exactly right. I mean I just to give people. Some context allows referred to was the Spanish flu back in the late. Nineteen teams that you know. There was a ramp above it in spring During flu season in the winter months and then it went away in the summer and it came back in the fall with a vengeance right like maybe this will happen like that. Maybe IT WON'T I. I don't know like we don't know anything that I think. To your point the League is trying to figure this out at the same time all of us are and so you know while it certainly certainly were slow to act and we're trying to You know it seems pretty clear you know. Get as much money out of this as they could before everything shut down like all the other leagues like frankly. A lot of other businesses have been right Sound like anybody in the states. It's been super quick to react to this thing You know now about this has happened. You know everybody kind of moved into all right like the next stage of this which is all right. We have to figure out what the next steps are. When we're going to be able to get our guys to your point even back in the gym practicing again 'cause they're not just. GonNa roll guys out after two weeks or two months and say all right. Let's just pick up games again tomorrow. But that's not how this is going to go. It's going to have to be some kind of a mini training camp type situation ramp. Guys back up You know and it's just I mean it's just impossible and oh look there's also other factors here like if the season starts in mid-may those Kevin Durant come back right. Does Ben Simmons come back from a back injury like there's all kinds of stuff that That could happen here that we just don't just don't know all right now we'll have to. We'll just have to wait and see and obviously the NBA is GonNa come up with their plan. But it's it seems to be sort of fluid as we go here the next couple of days weeks months seeing. How long ago is Tim really great stuff man? Tim Bon Temps. Espn NBA reporter. Appreciate the time today to catch up with you again soon. Good absolutely got to talk to you so you too all right. Scott. Let's do this. Let's take a quick was. Take a quick break here because we want to bring in our GM former Sanjay and Ryan mcdonagh. I think one of the other interesting aspects of this is the financial impact that this will have on the League. Both in sort of the salary cap and you know we going forward. Free Agency with the summer will look like all these different things how it impacts the draft and there's nobody better mcdonagh so let's do this take a quick break and we'll be right back here. He's Brian Rooney seats roots. Gal Pals Radio Dot com the radio DOT COM APP. Ells the Scalp House. Radio DOT COM THE RADIO DOT COM APP see surge alongside white mom. Brian Scowl bringing. We're going to be joined in just a minute by our resin. Gm GM Ryan mcdonagh. Because there's you know we we've asked all the questions about what's happening right now could actually happen in the future but there is an interesting financial aspect of this how the NBA is going to be able to figure this out going forward how it impacts salaries the salary cap free agency the draft all that stuff and no one better that to than our resin. Gm Ryan mcdonagh. So He's GonNa join us in. Just one minute scalp. Quick give us a read from bar. Engine get to all of that right after that. So I- hustled here this morning and 'cause I jumped on the earliest flight to get back. So anyway and people who travel no traveling's of beast security not essay or even clear whatever.

"It was not maliciously intended as someone who is being tested and could test positive. I have no ill will towards rudy. Gobert the guy tested positive for corona virus. I'm not mad at him. So have you thought of it both ways like if you are a positive or negative and what is your fear factor like on in Bulk Situa-? Yeah cause the biggest. The biggest thing here for young healthy people a is not. That's not the highest risk person for worrying about any sort of fatality. You're worried about is spreading it to people who are at risk. Who have you know immune systems that aren't up to par or who have a history of respiratory problems who are older age and so the reason you want to be quarantined and the reason he wanted to catch it early so that you don't spread it to the people who are actually at risk of complications and so I'm not necessarily worried about myself but I am glad that the testing is happening so that I can know whether or not to stay away from people in that way? I don't spread it to other people. Well we really appreciate I know. It's been a surreal time and obviously can be very frightening but we appreciate give you know a couple of minutes here today to share your story and we'll issue best luck in the future as far as health and everything else. Thanks again for giving us a couple of minutes today. No problem take it easy. Yeah it's really good subscale. I mean we're gonNA talk to Tim Bontemps in a second. He also he's Nita's began. Nba reporter he can answer a lot of these more questions for us about what the League is going to do. But I think it is interesting to go to sort of the source and ask someone who was there in the building last night because as it was unfolding it was really weird. I mean I was Kinda watched some games and you see this thing unfold on twitter and you're like Oh my goodness really go bears positive and then a couple minutes later the NBA basically makes a decision to suspend the season. It all happened so fast like we were talking about this yesterday and I. I think we thought this may be a possibility but not less than twelve hours after our show yesterday so it was it came. It came very quickly and it was very much a surprise And it was. It was a surreal night last night for all MBA really. Does anybody my whole thing was. Do you know Rudy. Gobert was going to play this game and Yeah S. came back negative. He was going to play. So in one sense we have people dying and we got body-bag images from the corona virus in another city. We have a positive got a guy who's tested positive. And he doesn't feel sick and he makes light of the situation by touching the MIC. Or whatever it may be right so like that creates even more confusion now that okay so. I thought that NBA players were just GonNa Chuck it up is like I'm just it's just the NBA season. It is what it is. Do you have a headache? Do you have a fever? Do you have a cough? You'd probably say in the middle of the winter when your immune system is compromised. You can probably bring that up all the time so I was wondering what steps they're taking. You Know Kudos to the Utah Jazz. If or maybe entire NBA. We don't know what was going on behind the scenes but if a guy was feeling a little bit ill then all of a sudden you know like they pull them out and once again Donovan. Mitchell comes across as positive. He was going to play that game. So now you gotta unfold six degrees of separation to the NBA. I said before. This thing is inevitable. It was going to happen. It's just a matter of win. It was going to happen now. The Toronto Raptors who just the Utah Jazz and all that stuff so it gets really really interesting moving. How all these things are going to unfold in that I'LL BE I. I'm curious how many positive tests come from. I don't know we go. Bears even patient zero. But how many come from the NBA Yup and was a great segue. Scott 'cause we're going to welcome in our next guest to cancel out of those questions for us and a guy. I know that you were just on a flight with from back from Milwaukee and that is ESPN NBA writer and reporter. Tim Bond Tom Sue. Also just recently put up a story on. Espn DOT COM with Brian. Windhorst answering a lot of the great. You know the major questions that we have about this thing so we welcomed him and now first and foremost Tim. How're you doing it? Well guys how're you doing? Tim is a good day for Tim because it was a day where we are both on a commercial flight and he was in first class and I was in coach. Good Job Tim. Positive you play you played. You didn't want the bulkheads seat so that's the only yourselves in first class so you saw my seat. It was the best seat in the House Man. Best seat in the house. You let your own robot Salsa Owen Kentucky which was which was good because they would have just been annoying but you all flight to win for everyone involved. Scott you got so you guys are obviously on the flight. You know he's supposed to be a game tonight. Milwaukee versus versus Boston doesn't happen. Everyone comes back home. I think one of the interesting things about this situation. Tim Is that you know it's ground. Zero last night was obviously own Oklahoma City between the jazz and the thunder. But then you look at okay. Who are the team to the jazz played? And there's you know a five or six different teams that now people are Round Win Horse and yourself reporting that are basically being asked to quarantine themselves. Tell us what's going on with those teams that are basically come in contact with the jazz and over the last couple of days a week while I mean a lot of them are just being self quarantined. Basically right now right The ones from earlier on teams Cleveland in Washington and You know some of those teams like the Celtics will fall into camp when they get back to Boston. And then you have to try to rappers. Who They had their whole traveling party. Get tested Last night it was kind of you know they all found out when we did that. This was happening so last night wherever they were they were scrambling to try to get tested And they're all waiting results. Which I think should know sometime by you know midday today. Maybe a little later Assuming they all did get tested last night You know everybody's really just in the same kind of Fact finding phase that we are right. I mean this is all happening really fast real time and you have a lot of people involved too despite all the obvious first class medical care that these teams get you know. This is something that nobody's used to dealing with. And they're trying to sort out what they have to do. And what comes next? Tim Contempt preferences question with. Tim is one of the smartest guys I talk to. These really thinks of all the layers here but do you think won the NBA. Made a mistake like playing games. Whatever or to you think they should have started testing guys like right away or this thing is inevitable while I can't even say scale but Like I I I don't know if the NBA made any mistakes. Here per se right What I would say is to your latter point You know you and I talked about this before the Indiana game on Tuesday This was going to happen. Made just from a sheer number standpoint. There was going to come a time when some coach or some player or some trainer. Or someone's you know significant other or kid or somebody was going to contract this virus and they're going to test positive and that team is going to be quarantined and the season was going to be suspended. There was just no way that they were going to Be Able to keep everyone away from this thing. And what the season go on unless they picked up scouts. I'd be idea took. Everyone says some place in Siberia. I just built a jam and just everybody stay there for three months and play the play offs that way. So you know I could the NBA. Don't things differently? I think so. I mean I think you're seeing what the reaction from the NCAA from the various leagues. I think they all were trying to make as much money as they could. Frankly before they had to take these steps and now you saw the NBA Suspend their season last night you now the MLS suspending their season today. I suspect that the NCAA tournament will not happen next week. I suspect the NHL Suspending. Its play soon I think the major league baseball probably be in the same boat always really gonNA take was one guy in one of these sports to actually get sick for everybody to go all right. Playtime is over here. We have to take a break and assess the situation and figure out what we have to do next in order to wait and try to be able to get everybody eventually back on the field around the corner on the ice and playing. I think one of the interesting. Su- tim is you look. You can look at Europe and so that the soccer leagues over there is basically you know what is to come in the state so. I think when when scalp sort of ask the question of like should should they call this thing off sooner? Maybe they would have been able to pick. This is what was going to happen so I do think that is interesting but I want to ask you this. Like what what what now. What are the teams do now? Are these teams practicing? Are they basically going home? And are they self quarantine? What happens now for the players? The coaches all these organizations that you know. We don't really know how long they're going to be out for. I think you know you're right about Europe and that's obvious situation monitor. I think the situation to look at. That's destructive for what's GonNa come here is what's happening in China so you go back to Go back to mid to late January. The Chinese Basketball Association shuts down. We'd sends everybody home right when the when the outbreak was Outta type In one province They have since at everybody. Stay home for the past two months Things have started to settle down in China. They are now calling players back they were planning on starting play around April. First you put that together got essentially going to be ten week break for the Chinese Basketball Association from The beginning of the suspension of play to the resumption of it assuming there are no other setbacks and they get going so you could. You could say that you know. Our situation is as dire as there's right. Now you could say that We're moving into warmer weather. So in theory you know the whole thing. I think is that this is start to die down soon so even if you wanna be conservative and say you know maybe this is going to be six weeks right. Is that a ten weeks. You're still looking at some time in. May so you know I. I saw mark. Cuban has floated the idea of having a sixty day break. And then coming back on. That would also be sometime in mid-may So I think that we're we are right now to to ban and we're all obviously flying wind here trying to figure out what's next but. I think that it's reasonable to assume that you're not gonNA see NBA Basketball for at least several weeks. And you know I think that assuming everything goes smoothly. I think you're looking at the season. Assuming comes back sometime in. May or June stretching well into the summer ENAC also potentially add ramifications on when next season starts now as well so what do the teams do send everyone home in two weeks or a reporting they practicing. I don't I know there's no games but if you play for the Boston Celtics where do you go? I mean I think Scou- those are some of the questions that I think the League is going to have to answer today right like teams last night. Were trying to find out. Like what are we allowed to do? Right like mark. Cuban said the League told them they could practice while you know there were other teams. That were like well. We're not gonNA practice and as you pointed out there's several teams that are going to have to fourteen for awhile like I was GonNa have to hold the next two weeks. All the guys that were at that game are going to be at home right. They're not gonna be able to practice You know other teams are GonNa at least have several days. We're not gonNA be able to practice so I mean. I think I'd be surprised if anybody's practicing anytime soon. Frankly and I think everybody's just going to kind of You know hunkered out.

"DOT COM RADIO DOT COM APP. Steve through to here is always alongside. The white mob. Brian Scouring scall- Just catching a flight back here from Milwaukee. Obviously as the news came down last night that the season has officially been suspended This coming after Jackson Rudy. Gobert tested positive last night leading to a lot of chaos in Oklahoma City between the jazz and the thunder. There that game eventually gets postponed cancelled players getting rush into the locker room. We're going to talk to somebody who was there Who I believe is. Basically part of the quarantine is well. Sarah Todd of the desert news is going to join us in just a couple of minutes here. Basically tell us what happened in. What's going on with her? And what's going on the scene there? We're also going to talk to Tim. Bontemps ESPN reporter. Who just wrote a piece about basically a Q- name a lot of questions because their scouting we have is. We have so many questions today about not only the future the league to help the players all these different things. Obviously you're coming back from Milwaukee on a flight You know the Celtics are team kind of at the center of this thing. They played Milwaukee twice in the last two weeks. We'll get your thoughts on that as well Ryan. Mcdonagh are resonant. Gm IS GONNA join us. He's got sort of the all the financial angles of this. I mean these teams going to deal with the loss of income. How is this going to impact you know the salary cap going forward for agency to schedule being pushed back all of these major questions we have? And we're also going to close out with Nick. Costas of you better you bet about how this impacts the League financially as well and people who have thrown some money down on basically betting futures. And all of that. So we've got you covered here today of everything With the related to the suspension of the season in the corona virus cow. First and foremost our you. I know obviously it was a call last night of you. You were not supposed to come home and coming home this morning. How're you feeling? I'm good I mean this is about a week ago. I just assumed that this was going to happen like it. I started with when they started talking about the no fans. And I'm like okay and then so I'm at the Games and I'm just kind of watching fans my. Maybe you guys could avoid it. Then you see players. Afterwards you know up in the stands with people taking pictures and stuff like that okay. So that's not gonNA work. Then you say no media within eight feet and it's like once again you're pretending I called it sandbags for tidal wave or putting out a forest fire with a Dixie Cup like I just just as soon as you start to think about how this thing is is transferred and you start watching the interactions of NBA players and you start watching the interactions of what's going on in the arena. There is this this was inevitable and so I think I'm more interested in what happens now. I have no idea. We'll come up with some great ideas of what we think should happen. But I knew that this moment right here was going to happen. It wasn't a matter of if it was a matter of win. Yeah well what? We're going to have plenty time to do that today. But we want to do right now is go straight to the scene. Almost the epicenter of what happened last night. And we're going to talk to Sarah of the Desert News. He's jazz reporter. There was really kind of at Ground Zero for what happened in the NBA. Last night she wrote a really great piece of basically chronicling how she became a part of the story last night with the players in somebody's referees and people in the stands and Syrah joins us now here on Scallon Pal Sarah. First and foremost thanks for hopping on the show today. Really appreciate you giving us a couple of minutes your time how are you? How's everything going to Syria there? They are hey. Hey Sara how are you? I'll T- up again just in case I we really appreciate hopping on and just saying obviously you know you wrote a piece a great piece about how you became part of the story last night in the NBA. At basically the epicenter of what you know. The season ended up being suspended. First and foremost how are you tired? It's been a sleepless night But I'm hanging in there and just waiting to find out what the next step is. Yeah what what are the results and winning? Are you expecting results right? We're expecting results sometime today. They're supposed to be trickling out slowly. There were Three batches from the amount of people that were sent to the lab. And so I I was in the last batch and so it will probably be the last round of rounds of results that come back but again sometime today and Whenever the real results come back obviously a positive test is not a good thing but a negative test isn't exactly would either because the virus has a fourteen day Beijing period which means that even if I test negative now I couldn't go up You know developing symptoms and actually being infected later on anyway and so. That's why we have to be quarantined for two weeks. Last obviously rudy. Gobert was the first one to test positive the breaking news this morning that Donovan Mitchell Jazz Guard is also tested positive. So I assume you with all the other players basically just been sort of as you said in quarantine hanging out. I mean they're basically for the fourteen day period until you find out the results even after you find out the results. What has what what. What was it like last night being in the building when there was all this mass confusion about the game being postponed? Obviously the the the players and everybody running back into the locker room. What was it like to be in that scene? It was so surreal. And I've said it many times this morning already i. It hasn't even really crossed into my mind really hit me at the. Nba is suspended. And we're not even GONNA see in basketball for the foreseeable future because everything that went on. Last night was so surreal. Just being in the dark for about three hours about what was going to happen if I was even GonNa get tested you know. We're we're around these guys every day talking to him and close proximity and and then finding out that it was rudy and then that the NBA suspended play and not being able to walk down certain. Hallways that we're used to. And having law enforcement and State Public Health Department officials walking through the arena. While the floor is empty it was. It was a very strange situation. I've never seen anything like it. Do you think it was inevitable that this was going to happen because I kind of feel that way and I feel like if you look at NBA players and even if you just look at the the flu and how the flu jumps around NBA teams. Did you and your mind. Just I start to think you know what this is going to happen. I don't know who is going to be patient zero but this thing is going to happen. Yeah absolutely I mean think. About how many people these guys come in contact with. I mean if you just extend it from being an arena with twenty thousand people and then you know you've got the media members that are traveling the broadcast crews all team personnel. That travel with the team. There's so many people that and because this is such a contagious disease at travels so quickly of course. It was inevitable happening over the last few days. All the media contingency you know were on eleven commercial. Flights in the last week and a half. And we're saying you know it's going to happen eventually. It's GonNa Happen. Someone's going to get it and they're going to have to shut down and with a little bit surprising that It took player getting it before it shut down. Do you know again. We're talking to SEROTA. The Desert News Digest quarter was in Oklahoma City last night and has been part of the quarantine there. Do you know all of the players from both teams are basically they just at the hotel. They've all you know obviously gotten testing done. Do you know what their status is in the foreseeable future right so the thunder were able to leave the arena. A little bit earlier they were given sort of the Non High risk factor testing checking temperatures and symptoms and stuff like that Meanwhile the the jazz because they were in direct contact along myself and broadcast team too because we had direct contact with a confirmed case. That's why we had to be tested. And that's why the suggestion is to not fight. Fly publicly and to be quarantined for fourteen days. It's precautionary for anybody that could have come in contact to be to self quarantine for fourteen days But you're at a much lower risk of contracting anything if you haven't had direct contact which by one of the health officials last night was defined to me. Is You know. Hand to hand contact or being in like one on one interview style talking to someone for accumulative amount of fifteen to twenty minutes. It has to be really direct contact to have a higher risk of actually getting the corona virus but there. Are you know low risk situations where it is going to happen to Sarah? Can shed some light on your situation. Do you have family back in Utah Are you. Are you planning on going to see them? Are you stuck in Oklahoma City for fourteen days? Can you said some light on what you know? Yeah so we were Really fortunate the three Writers that travel to cover the team. But we don't travel with the team. That's myself Tony Johnson. Athlete and Andy Larssen from Salt. Lake City Tribune In conjunction with both Oklahoma and Utah State. Health DEPARTMENTS ALONG WITH UTAH government officials and the jazz. They've all push to get us back home so that we can be quarantined where we live and so that our own state health departments can guide us through what the next steps are. So we're all going to be on chartered flights today heading back to Utah Whether that's one or two flights for positively tested negatively tested people. We're not exactly sure how it's going to work it out but we will be on chartered flights today and Sarah. One quick and we will be is that we you the jazz broadcasting team a give me. What is we will be on to the team. Everybody associated with the Utah Jazz. The broadcast crew the writers all of us we will be heading back to Utah Today. that time has not been a hundred percent decided yet and we're waiting on information. We'RE STILL WAITING ON TEST RESULTS. So it's a little bit up in the air. I don't personally have family in Utah. I just recently moved there. I'm originally from California and so I'm not at risk of you know anybody that cohabitate with anything and I will. Just be luck in my apartment for two weeks. A lot of there'll be some networks going on there. I wanted to ask you this Sarah because I saw you tweeting about this last night we were you know. I was following sort of the story. You Know Your your story obviously bear in the building last night but one of the things that was kind of taking fire on social media was the backlash doors Rudy Gobert about the video that sort of resurface. Hint touching. A bunch of microphones. Kind of jokingly. I mean he was trying to make light of the situation. I know you push back on people sort of hating on for that. Could you expand on that? Because I think it's really important first of all one of the reasons that I'm pushing back on it is because straight from the CD the mouth of the CDC officials and the State public health officials it that specific situation was talked about specifically to us and it was described as an extremely low risk situation. That should not worry. People that is not the way that the virus is spreading most rapidly the way that it spreads rapidly through what they call respiratory droplets. So you cost you sneeze on someone near someone on your breathing on someone and respiratory droplets that you inhale or like. I said hand to hand contact. Those are the things that people are worried about. That's why there's so much emphasis on washing hands and things sixty feet away from people. Those are the things that people that they've health officials want to keep people from doing. Because that's what's going to spread the disease most rapidly. And he was already leaning over the microphones and breathing on them. If anything was GONNA infect the microphone that was GonNa to be at him? Touching them you know for a couple of seconds wasn't the problem and Rudy. Gobert was not maliciously intended person. It's not like he leaned over and did that. Thought I'm GonNa Affect Everyone. Actually it was kind of a snub at the idea that like. Oh you're trying to keep the media away from us they're gonNA affect us. It was like no. I'm not really afraid he's GonNa get Outta here it. It was not maliciously intended as someone who is being tested and could test positive. I have no ill will towards rudy. Gobert the guy tested positive for corona virus..

"Right well who she is she is a sports reporter otherwise reporter ask her how she is you can read a new stuff in the Deseret News yeah I was covering the the day bell that aloe case you have any other stuff to be inside only that I read it's it was hard to make deadline because there's so much to read I know that I read it was also but her I think her brother died a mysterious death they're waiting for toxicology so he died in December and she apparently believe that the world's going to end in July from July twenty second July yeah the July twenty twenty and she's a god sent here to save a hundred forty four thousand people mmhm so that that's what her ex husband told his sister before he died well I'm in the market on my calendar and her friend confirmed that I was in that in the dateline her friend from way that she stayed with yeah who's out super sad though super sad case only well they they find the kids and the kids are okay just out of range of technology but does does anyone have any idea whether they're alive or dead I mean there are people people have a yeah they know they have not been seen sept since September there's like a couple people on the street have cameras you can see that there's iCloud photos that they have now so nothing since September in any event no medications no nothing so yeah well let's go to sports course I know you want to talk about the XFL oppa no I don't know what to talk about college basketball they're actually doing pretty well though the XFL Justin yes yes they are doing but but college basketball in the state and number twenty three B. Y. U. upset number two bizarre this weekend are great was said let's see well I mean the it was a dominant performance like actives I came and I think everybody expected to be a super tight back and forth that B. Y. usually plays well against him in Provo and then they'd expected to be a good game yeah and I mean it was a it was a great game but it was like it was new I use game yeah I mean just it was never like out of reach but it was B. Y. you control the game in the final score ninety one seventy eight and it's the first time to rank teams have met in Provo since Jimmer Fredette James in his favorite player that scored forty three points to lead number nine B. Y. U. pass for San Diego state I just knew the love that I read everything I don't work in the gym thank you for that but anyway there on an eight game win streak in second place and they are probably the brightest hope for the state in the certainly not here it's certainly not the U. S. but we'll get to them we're gonna get into the B. Y. U. women away I didn't write their scored on never mind we'll skip them look better you tell a story they're six and ten they beat Arizona state yesterday seventy five seventy one they're in eighth place they play USC on Friday you tell men they did beat USC US seventy nine sixty five next up at Stanford they're also sixty nine nine not nine price yeah so are we were statement they B. S. U. S. eighty two seventy one next up for them as Portland state on Saturday they're also struggling seven nine seven four a sin so like I said lets somebody wins tournament look look you know start becoming a BYU fans well it's a high school champions around a basketball south severe girls won the two A. championship and the beaver boys beat enterprise in the to a championship anti be rich field and three boys and Miller defeated north summit in triple overtime to win the girls title and then you do have you tried jazz they play tonight so keep that in mind if you come downtown or take on the Phoenix Suns here at home I've no reason that at all that they should not when but this jazz team has been a bit inconsistent of late there in a two game losing streak they lost to let's see this person they lost to the rockets won twenty to London this weekend so they're I think they're in fifth place right now they are in a really tough division right I mean yeah yeah but they it's just spend their kind of winning games people are sort of that thing they win of great game and they lose to the team that maybe they shouldn't have lost it but yeah it just distracting points of inconsistency I think probably when cider complaining loudly about that but I need some boxing boxing news Tyson fury if you're ready he reigns as the heavyweight world champion after battering Dontay Wilder it was a TKO the severance of fury is British yes and Deontay Wilder is American and in December twenty eighteen these two met and it was a split decision and most a lot of boxing purists thought that fury won that fight but Wilder won the decision no very close fight and so it was split so that always great controversy yes it's taken this long to come back both of them are like incredible incredible boxers they're huge too they're just one other heavyweight yes and they and so but they they met this weekend and you're a knocked him down in the third round I believe he fell in the he got he punched him and knocked him down Denny fell in the third and then he got knocked down again when a body blow in the fifth round and then in the seventh round I mean is bleeding from his ear it was yeah and so they thought the referee stopped the fight in his corner threw in the towel mothers so they do he does have the option of a rematch national Tyson fury like hugging him you know yeah okay ma'am yeah okay unlike some John is a fighting this to get guys were super classy about it afterwards good yeah and I I hope they fight again I I hope Wilders okay bleeding from the adder good sign but but yeah but I mean if you're a boxing fan what a great what a great little river rivalry a fight that was that's all I have for you I don't have any sense of failure texting he was the UCLA Utah gymnastics meet was incredible the best collegiate gymnastics meet I've seen in a long time it was texted doctor.

"Are, you, doing here I don't know That's. A good question I will say that I heard a lot of emergency vehicles as I was. Walking into your building so I wanna keep. Up on that traffic nothing on the, way in. Onto, fifteen but right yeah Let the sirens show any. Is the sports reporter is a sports quarter for the Deseret news I think the Deseret news has, more sports reporters than they do covering actual. Beat definitely not no I wish that, were the. Case It's the war of attrition couple years they'll be like three of us. Anywhere, in all in all across all these papers I heard you saying somewhere a couple of days. Ago that being a sports reporter you you didn't really care for the fact that you are. No longer a fan of sports well it kind of beats the phantom out of, you that. Makes. It difficult to be a fan So yeah because it's a job and it's a fun job and I'm definitely not going to. Complain about it I really enjoy it. Has, spent the weekend watching some women's football in Las Vegas, combined personal, trip the work trip but it's just? You look at, things. Differently you're looking, at, them for I'm sure political. People feel the same way they they tried. To, refrain from, judging and no little too much about some people and and a little the insider stuff it ruins it, for you is it ruined. It for you and well. I was told I was, told when. I started radio they said do you enjoy listening to the radio and I said. Yes and they said well then don't get into radio 'cause it will ruin it and. It did yeah I still I still enjoy radio because I because I like to listen. To, talk shows and yell at the radio you and my husband down so you have in common And we're both good looking And I love you both So what's your call them in the desert news I call. Him, is about women's football actually the the falcons lost the, championship game on Saturday night. But that was the game they have kind of been hoping for. Was a very competitive game and that's what women who are in women's football are hoping for is. More depth than, more competitiveness and so they it was. A win for the sports I've watched women's football Is it now are they the rules are basically the same area may hit, each other and tackle and all of that and all the same quarterback doesn't throw like a girl. Or anything like that Can I ask you a question related I heard you talking about girls high school football yes what what's the. Future of, that so there's seven girls in Salt Lake county who are doing that canyons district, granite district and Jordan district for the opportunity. To have women's only football in tackle football in high school right. Now girls can play if they join or can make a boys, team at their school and a lot of them have, done that and they said it's a very unpleasant experience for number of reasons and so they want to have their own and, they and their they've done some number crunching, and they say they're seven six to seven hundred, fewer opportunities in those three districts than for. Girls in there? Are boys? Because football's most coaches don't cut so there's kind of unlimited opportunities for, voice so so they look at those and they say you have to provide more opportunities for girls Title nine nine yeah there's also equal protection do you get the same opportunities the federal law requires that you have, the same opportunity when I was in high. School it it was called powder puff football yes, and it was it was shortened wasn't like Many of us played that I, did not? Enjoy. It I I. Went to the, game played Oh He was our coach, come is? It is it that, was is that flag, football? Though the? Power, no we tackled but we didn't get. Pads we didn't have any of these guys, had The equipment they had all that stuff. So we didn't get any of that stuff Have been Alaska It was great..
