"NFL live is brought to you by liberty mutual insurance. Only pay for what you need. So it's been mostly mister Biscay leading the way in the Steelers quarterback competition, but rookie first rounder Kenny think it took his first reps into two minute drill with the starter on Monday afternoon, which begs the question. What does it mean? So we asked chef Dee. What are you hearing about the Pittsburgh Steelers competition as we get closer to the regular season? Well, field I think we've got a situation here where essentially Kenny Pickett has begun to take some reps with the first team offense in the two minute drill and that's a sign if nothing else that he's closing the gap on Mitchell trubisky who has been and continues to be the favorite to open the season as the Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback, but Pickett was very impressive in the Pittsburgh Steelers preseason debut. This past weekend he completed 13 of 15 passes, obviously the coaches took notice. The city loves them and he's getting more run now with that starting offense. You know at some point in time, they're going to turn to him, but Mitchell trubisky is going to hope to hold them off as long as he possibly can. What do you make of Kenny Pickett getting some run with the ones during this two minute drill? Is training camp? Everybody gets, you mix it up. You want your quarterback and you want players to get into the two minute flow. That's just the reality of it. We talked about the Giants earlier, right? And we looked at what Tyrod Taylor getting run with the ones. Hell, when I played, I got runs with the threes. You think I was ever going to be on the 13th? No. But that's just what coaches do. Now at some point, in time, Kenny Pickett has the opportunity to be to start quarterback. Yeah, his statistical numbers were okay. They were impressive if you look in the stat sheet, but let's face it, those are dinks and ducks. He got the two touchdowns, but overall, mister bisky is his job to lose and at some point in time, Kenny Pickett will be the guy that takes it from him. Yeah, I hear what you're saying. I actually agree with you on pretty much all of your points. Getting reps with the ones is short, it's great. But even more importantly, like when you're watching the preseason games, if Kenny Pickett's going against the twos, he's probably playing against twos as well. And so you want to get these reps against the ones to see how Kenny Pickett looks against the ones. We've seen miss trubisky against the ones. Now let's see Kenny Pickett against the ones. There may be a major difference when you go against starters versus second or third string players. It's going to be a major difference. That's why they want to see it because they just want to, you have to evaluate it that way and you know this field to really get a look at what you have if he continues to stay with the twos and threes, they'll never know what he looks like with the ones. Maybe it's something maybe it's nothing, but it caught my attention. That's all. Monday afternoon, got a little bit spicier when we saw the Kenny Pickett was getting some work with the ones. It's a quarterback competition for now. One guy who has no competition for his job in Pittsburgh is running back naji Harris, who recently went on our guy RC's the pivot podcast. Take a listen. Yes, the best thing you guys were, man. I hope they load the box, man. To load the box of cre opportunities from Deontay chase, George, you know, Austin, gunner, anybody, you know what I mean? If I could be a threat to the defensive coordinator, man, that's the best blessing and running back could do. I want to become a threat for defensive coordinators where they can't stack the box up. And you know, we can create opportunities one O one on the edge. Can you make up what naji had to say there? He's absolutely a 100% correct. When you load the box, the opportunities open up. But then eventually, whichever quarterback is there or have those opportunities and now on the defense has to back up and that's what naji Harris goes to work. I think when you talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers philosophy, their style, what they're all about, we all know it's about defense. It's about running the football. And then it's about a quarterback making the right throws in the decisions. It's not about airing it out 50 times a game. It's about pounding. It's about three yards in a cloud of dust. Every now and then you can rip a 20 yarder. But that's what Pittsburgh is all about. And I'm looking forward to nausea Harris, possibly turning in this thing into a little mini bus. Yeah, but I will say is this key. I don't think that teams would load the box because of naji Harris. I think they might load the box so they don't believe in the receivers on the outside. Now maybe George pickens has done enough in his preseason to prove otherwise because he looked really, really good the first preseason game. But until then, I don't like teams are saying nausea here has got to load the boxer saying man, they don't have any weapons on the outside. That's how defenses think. They have no weapons, so let's put more guys in the box. Now George pickens looked like that weapon looked like it in college. He looked like it looked like it in training camp, he looked like it in the preseason game. Big, strong, tall, fast. Now, if he proves to be an extreme weapon like we saw, it could be a little bit of a problem if people are loading the box against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Okay, you know a good wide receiver when you see one, what do you make of the steelers White House? It seems like every year they already have a star and then they pull another one like a rabbit out of a hat. I think when you look at the pre season, you really can't judge on the preseason, right? And you can't judge in the first year. I think claypool takes another step. And then if it is anything what we've seen so far in the first preseason game, then they'll have some receivers that they can lean on. Their receipt, it's all about run after catch and it's all about blocking into running game. Yes, they're going to load the box, but the opportunities will be there one on one situation and those guys got to take advantage of it. They do that, then everything loosens up and they can become stars, much like Heinz war, much like santonio Holmes, plexiglas bears, some of the great was that they had in the past. Hey, Kate, when you look at this right now, the talk of the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp has been The Rookie wide receiver, George pickens, who they drafted early on in the second round from Georgia. He's been lighting it up the auntie Johnson called him a freak, but keep this in mind. As much as everybody's talking about George pickens, Calvin Austin, another rookie wide receiver in the fourth round, also has been very impressive. So it's not just one wide receiver who is shined at training camp. It's two, even though pickens so far has gotten most of the attention. They've always right Adam. They've always had a plethora of wide receivers that come out of nowhere. AB was a special teams guide and all of a sudden, bam. You look at juju Smith Schuster and early on in his career, Pittsburgh, it was bam. Claypool bow. I mean, that's just what they've always been able to do. And I don't see it a change any different at all. They know what they're doing on their offense societal. Sam, let me ask you this. As far as the quarterback is concerned, how much of this wide receiver group alleviates some of the pressure off of, we think Mitch trubisky being their week one starter. I think it does. I think it definitely alleviates some of the pressure, right? And I love the Calvin Austin note. He was outstanding out of Memphis, but the more weapons you have at receiver, the less pressure you have at quarterback. The more weapons you have at running back, the less pressure you have at quarterback. And so for me, Pittsburgh is doing a great job. He made a great point, putting all the pieces. And it felt live returns tomorrow.

"Welcome into NFL live. We've got a full lineup today. Bill Belichick and kind of coy on the patriots offensive coordinator situation Mike Mac Jones give us some info here from him in just a couple of minutes. Baker Mayfield and Sam darnold also speaking today as their quarterback competition continues. And of course, Kenny Pickett, gaining ground. Could he be gaining ground in the Pittsburgh Steelers competition? We'll tell you that in just a minute the latest say hello and welcome into NFL. Live on field the 8th left to right, you see keyshawn Johnson San macho. And of course, Adam, Schefter and chef Dee. As always, we start with the top stories and we begin with the Pittsburgh. She's with deshaun Watson in the latest in his situation. We'll feel we continue to await to see whether the two sides, the NFL, the NFL PA, deshaun Watson can figure out a settlement in the discussions before the arbitrator Peter Harvey hands down a decision about how long deshaun Watson will be suspended. Now we know that right now he's facing a 6 game suspension inevitably that's going to grow. The question is whether the league and deshaun Watson can figure out a settlement before Harvey rules. If they do, I would figure it to include a fine of millions of dollars and I think the league would like for him to essentially address the issues he's had in the past and I think the league is looking for a longer suspension clearly than just 6 games. As for the Chargers, they landed their Pro Bowl safety today Derwin James on a big new deal. Four years. $76.4 million, about $42 million in guaranteed money making him. The new highest paid safety in the National Football League and when you have a quarterback on a rookie contract, you could afford to pay Joey Bosa and JC Johnson and Khalil Mack and Derwin James and all these defensive players all these big contracts because you don't have to pay the quarterback right now, but Justin Herbert's paydays coming field. It's going to come soon. And in the interim the Chargers are spending that money on the defensive side of the football. Yeah, chefs, when he's extension eligible next year, that contract, he eventually signs, will make all these deals seem like peanuts because Justin Herbert, of course, plays quarterback. Let's dive deeper into that Derwin James extension, though, because he's much more than just a safety, since entering the NFL in 2018, James has played more snaps in the box as a linebacker than he has Etsy. Last season, he was one of two players in the NFL to lag log four hundred snapped safety, a 150 snaps at slot cornerback and a 150 snaps at outside linebacker, the only other. Steelers safety Terrell Edmonds. Our king would start with you. What'd you think when you saw this deal early this morning from chef? Well, like they got it done. And I think that's a great sign for the Los Angeles charges. If they want to keep their core group in tech, it certainly seems like zero and James has passed his injury history early in his career. But any time you give a guy four year 70s plus $1 million to play a position that traditionally in the National Football League has been one of the lower positions, but when you talk about what you just showed, all the different spots that he lines up in his tremendous because he can play everywhere, it allows them to do what they need to do on the defensive side of the ball, hats off to him for getting paid the way he deserves. Yeah, and more than that key. I would say this is a testament to not only Brandon Stanley, what he's building, but the kind of football player that Derwin James is. The stats say a little bit of it, but the film I think tells more, he's so much more than just a safety. 117 tackles tied for third among all DBs. He can rush the quarterback, right? Like, let's look at his pass rush moves. He's getting the ball out when he's getting after the quarterback. Interceptions in the line of scrimmage. Watch him trigger right there. Third and one against the Patriots right, like you trigger right here, covering Darren Waller. He knows what's happening before it's happening. He's in phase. He makes the play. That was a pic against Derek Carr. And so Derwin James can do it all and yes, he's had some injuries in the past. He's doing this hold in right now. He's not injured. He'll be back probably tomorrow, whatever he finishes signing that deal, but this is a perfect situation for Derwin James, even better situation for the future of the LA chargers. Yeah, feel that's interesting because we've seen some players hold in this summer and almost every player that has held in eventually has been rewarded. Deebo Samuel, held in, your contract, DK Metcalf, held in new contract. Deontay Johnson held in new contract Derwin James, held in new contract. And so there have been a number of players who have deployed this new strategy this summer essentially conforming to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement and every single one of these players. That is held in eventually has got a new deal and I think the door has been opened in the future to this type of behavior where next summer, when there are more players seeking more new contract extensions, we'll see more new holdings because they're going to look back to Derwin James and the other deals that got done this summer as a way of getting things done. Well, chef, one more notable holding right now is, of course, roquan Smith of the Chicago Bears. You know a thing or two about contract negotiations during your playing career. But let's dive deeper into what this means on the field for the Chargers with Derwin James back in the fold for at least the next 5 seasons. I think the most difficult team to pass against right now in the NFL. I think that could be the case. But you also got to think, okay, so when you talk about Jackson coming over from the New England Patriots and you got Samuel, you got edge rushers and Khalil Mac and Boston. Joseph day coming over from the rams in the middle plugin, Megan Fox. I mean, market market. Megan Fox. Security so many people. Some of that defense a lie. So when you say that, okay, you got to look at the receivers within the division. They're slot guys. There's outside guys. So you need at least three to four cover down guys in the secondary and Derwin James certainly stays on the football field as a safety. You don't have to take him out. I know, right? You don't have to take him out. You don't have to take him out on third downs. You can leave him in. The bigger question for me is who's going to play the dime in the nickel spot for them at the DB when they go dime and nickel, who's that guy going to be when you see Renfro with the Raiders or they slide Adams inside and when you look at what is going on at the Denver Broncos or even the Kansas City Chiefs within the division. You've got to have, like I said, three to four DBs that solid. Not linebackers, not safe east on diamond nickel and if they do that, then they're going to be hard to go up against in the secondary as well as on a deeper side of the ball. Not Megan Fox for the thousandth time. Morgan Fox. I knew the charger's defense look good. I didn't know it was that good. It was pretty good. That's good. If you're looking for more DBs, I heard Machine Gun Kelly is available between tour dates. So we have all these players signed up right now. All these guys have received the big old back from Los Angeles chargers. Next year is the year in which Justin Herbert's eligible for a deal, and that could change things cap wise and the ability to retain players going forward. Does that mean that this team is under pressure to win right away? No, they're not under pressure to win right away. Part of the reason is because Justin Herbert's 24 years old, right? He's still one of the youngest quarterbacks in the NFL. He's 24. Even their head coach Brandon staley is only 39 going into a second year. And so there's still some time for this team to understand how to win. I think that's what Brandon staley is trying to regain. Let's learn how to win. I get it. We split our games against the chiefs last year, lost in overtime. I get it. We had that game at the end of the season that we could have won, but we lost to the Raiders. Let's find ways to win. Derwin James does that. All the people you talk about JC Jackson, we didn't mention Kyle van noy, who won super bowls with the Patriots. He's on that team as well, showing up the middle knows how to win. And so I don't think you can say they have to win right now, but I think they're building this window over the next four, four to 6 or so years, a young superstar quarterback, young players on the outside, and I think they'll be able to have a very big

"What makes this team a real danger to a lot of other people because of the addition of Cleo Mac. I think a lot of people thought maybe because of the injuries in Chicago, the way they were willing to get rid of him with the trade and then adding Jackson at the corner just makes this a team that is dangerous for a lot of people and so speak to the defensive changes and how that's going to build this team back. Yeah, you know, Brandon Seeley, I didn't mean for as apparently this off season let them know we have a really good team, but we aren't good enough on defense to get where we need to go. So that's really where they made the significant upgrades. This off season made a trade that I don't know historically that Tom telesco would have made. They go pick up a free agent signing in JC Jackson, which is also very aggressive. By the kind of previous chargers way of doing things, Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa, I don't know if there's many people out there that wouldn't say that they're among the top pass rushing duos out there even as Khalil Mack tries to come off at injury that limited into 7 games last season. Those two guys have been really fun to watch throughout camp. I mean, they're always together, whether it's taken a knee on the sideline, whether it's just kind of going over things that when they're going through position group drills and that kind of described it to me what they have. I mean, he's a guy who just wants to get out of after the quarterback, no matter how possible and Joey Bosa is a guy who he described more of a technician. He wants to get after the tackle in order to get to the quarterback. So he said they have really complimentary styles, but do it completely different. So they're both kind of learning some stuff from each other and Joey for his part said to have a competitor like Khalil out there every day. It's making him that much better too. Derwin James, right? Early in camp conversation is how the extension is going to go. If I'm not mistaken, there hasn't been an extension or a new contract. He was doing the little hold in part. What's the situation there? And where is the team out with Derwin James? Yeah, you're definitely not mistaken. There's a hold in situation. It has to be like the friendliest contract situation I've ever seen where the player is not actually out on the field. I mean, Derwin James is there every day he goes through walk through, then he goes to another field, does some agility work, walks by reporters, says, hey, how's it going? He's out there with his teammates. So there's nothing kind of hostile about any of this, but he does not have a new contract in hand, and isn't going to be out there practicing until he does. The open of camp, everyone's been pretty calm about it. Coaches, oh, it's going to get done as camp has worn on. I believe only 6 practices left, maybe 5, including joint practices coming up against the cowboys. You kind of sense an increase in urgency like, okay, we need to get this Derwin deal done. We have an entirely kind of new set of defensive personnel in Derwin as his teammates said is really the heart of the defense and the heart of the team and while practices have been pretty intense. I think that they are missing something out there. You can't help but think who's the vocal guy. Who's the guy that's really amping this defense up, especially in the secondary and it's Derwin James. But I think it's been a noticeable absence throughout training camp and my sense is in asking Brandon staley about it daily. He's getting pretty eager, if not anxious to get derwent back out there on the field. When do you think Lindsay that this starts to become a necessity, like we got to get this done? Is there just far apart on some things or it seems like it's been kept pretty quiet too in terms of the negotiations, but what at some point do they say, hey, we have to move on this or we're going to ruin something that has a real good chance of being special this year. Yeah, well, when you look at it, the charters, I mean, their first week of the season. That schedule is not for the faint of heart, right? They open against the Raiders. And then 5 days later on the Thursday night, they're going to go to Kansas City and get the chiefs. So you probably would like to have Darwin's available to practice, at least for a full week, if not two full weeks. So we can obviously just kind of get a football legs under him, so to speak. And then get into the game planning because they're going to be cramming to have two division matchups right off the bat. So if you're the Chargers, you're, again, you're just starting to feel anxious that you need to get this done. And kind of what I've been told about just Derwin and his character, he's probably a guy that at some point is going to say, let's just get this done. He loves football so much. Obviously, these guys don't want to get paid all deserve what they want. On some degree. But from my understanding on how both sides are playing. And it will get done before the season. It just a matter of whether Brandon staley has derwent out there enough to feel super confident about the game plan with two division opponents in 5 days. We're speaking with Lindsey theory, ESPN, reporter. I just wanted to tell you, congratulations on the baby and just who would have thought. I don't know what it was now, just over ten years ago. In Great Falls, Montana were both in Los Angeles, doing some fun things with a neat platform, so congratulations. You have a great season covering the NFL three ESPN. Thanks, Ryan. Appreciate it. You bet. Lindsey theory, everybody. ESPN, NFL writer and reporter talking all things rams and chargers, the derwent James thing is for me is a bit interesting because it had been so far out of my mindset. I hadn't heard much about it. I even had to ask Mike, is that holding still going on? Yeah. Yeah, he hasn't practiced in two weeks. He's there, like Lindsay said. He's not in the field. Right. But this is a really interesting career that Derwin's had. He came out gangbusters in his first year. He was all pro as a rookie. Three interceptions. He was second defensive player rookie of the year voting. And then since then, the only played 20 games in the last three seasons. And so this is a guy we know how great he could be, but he hasn't been out there with the consistency because of injuries. And maybe that's the conversation and all this. Maybe there's some escalators in these contracts that are saying, hey, we want to. We want to compensate you for being the leader on this defense and doing the job, you got to do the job though. So if you're out playing and maybe not incentives in terms of statistics, but just plain time. Like, if you're healthy, you're going to get the bag. Cashier. But if you're not, which has been the evidence over the last three years, we don't want to be on the hook for a bunch of money for a guy sitting on the sideline. And of course, the player, he wants guaranteed money. Generational wells for him and his family because he knows how limited it is and especially because of the injuries the last few years. So that's a big part of it. So I get that. Yeah, totally. And he did play 15 games last year, so he has trended in the right direction. He is coming off of a full season.

Is Justin Simmons the Best Safety in the NFL?

"Number one, story right now at Denver fan dot com, you're looking at Justin Simmons voted league's best safety while Peterson wrote about that if you want to check that out on the website and fan dot com. It is Justin Simmons the best safety in the NFL or was he just voted the best safety in the NFL? You know, it's a great question. He's always, I think stoke really summed it up well when he said any given Sunday he can be the best safety in the NFL, but there are some guys, you know, there are some really good safeties in the NFL bayard comes to mind with the Tennessee Titans. If it's Patrick, make it Fitzpatrick is a really good place. There's a Berlin James Derwin James is an absolute that guy is a difference making. He's a beast. But again, he plays differently. He's down in the box, 90% of the time, or 80% of the time. So it's just the kind of it just depends. He's a different cat,

"Well if you look at how their offense is trending, and you look at other defenses trending, it's actually becoming a defensive team, especially now when you can get the likes of a Lawrence and Gregory back to pair. With the young rookie there from Ohio from Penn State. Kind of scary to think about if the cowboys offense can regain some of the form and swagger we saw early in the year how difficult an out they could be in the NFC. For the likes of, of course, the packers, the bucks, just to name a few. But let's get into the games this weekend. We do have John Sheeran later on in the show. Always great to get his perspective hopefully he's not a little bit unhappy with the way we saw a rash of favorites get to the window over the weekend. So we'll pick his brain on these games. But before we do that, let's kick things off tonight. Thursday at SoFi Stadium where one of The Crown jewels of the weekend sees a battle for AFC west supremacy with the Kansas City Chiefs a modest field goal favorite as they'll head into SoFi to take on the Chargers total in this game 52 and a half at FanDuel sportsbook. When you look at Kansas City last weekend, paying a 49 point outburst, it was the second most prolific offensive performance under a patri mahomes led group. They handed the Raiders a second largest loss of the Super Bowl era. Meanwhile, the Chargers, they got out to a comfortable lead and had to hang on for dear life at the betting window with the Giants best attempts to sneak in the back door. And when you look at the way these two teams played against one another earlier this season, Justin Herbert, 281 yards passing 7 and a half yards in attempt. A one 25 passer rating with four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes did throw two picks in the game, not sure he should deserve a lion's share of the responsibility for those throws. And when you look at the chiefs, Patrick Mahomes has been outstanding against divisional opponents going 19 and three. When you bake in a little bit of the revenge, we know the chiefs will be down Chris Jones on the defensive side. Are you more interested to watch Kansas City's offense against his charger's defense pain or the strength of the Chargers their offense against the strength, I guess, so to speak of Kansas City at this point? I got to tell you, this game in general is appointment television for me. I haven't been looking forward to a Thursday night game like this one in a very, very long time. And I think there's interesting elements to both sides of the ball and start with the chiefs offense. Remember back to when the turnover bug started. It was this week three game against the Chargers in Kansas City where you mentioned the Chargers they went out right on the road as a dog. But one thing we think you've talked about, maybe a couple of times and I don't know if it's been on air with some of the guys I speak with. I can't really remember. But if you actually break that game down and look at the first three quarters, the chiefs out gained the Chargers 330 to 200. Better than a 1.1 net yard per play advantage in a plus 16% in net success rate over the first three quarters. But the turnovers happened. Those were some of the worst ones you'll see where guys are wide open and deflections happened. The Chargers didn't actually force them. And we kind of talked, I think, a little bit about mahomes interceptions. I believe only three of them are actually turnover worthy. Now, schematically, the Brandon staley defense is one that plays a shell and puts a dome over your offense, and that's the kind of defense that's given the chiefs offense, some relative problems this season. But why didn't it happen in week three? It's very bizarre because I think if you like the Chargers you're saying, hey, this is the kind of defense that have given the chief's trouble yet in week three, that exact style, the very first time the chiefs ever saw a defense with 25 mph winds to boot. The chiefs didn't really have any problems moving the ball at all. So that'll be interesting to see how that unfolds. I want to see what this charger's defense looks like tonight. I think that's a unit that can really determine the kind of run the Chargers can make this season. Let's see what that looks like as a fully healthy unit. Kenneth Murray kind of slowly working his way back more snaps last week than the previous two games. Bolt Derwin James and asante Samuel junior got in limited practices. Let's monitor that situation for tonight. I know they're going to both go out there, warm up, see if they can play. But there's guys we speak with that do nothing but watch film and they suggest the Chargers defense is trending in the right direction. More familiarity with daily system. Some health of some key cogs returning. Visually some better run defense. For me, the metrics in the film are great. And I think this podcast is probably pushed some handicappers to talk about EPA and efficiency and matchups more and less of the bullshit analysis of ticket counts and bet percentages and narrative. But I think it's important when you are looking at EPA metrics to include some level of context, right? And so yes, the Chargers run defense the last two weeks. 8th best in the league, in EPA. And no doubt you had the Chargers defense kind of fly around early in the Cincinnati game. They responded after being called out a little bit. But the bangles were down two starting offensive linemen in that game. The Chargers got up 24 to nothing. How effective is an opposing run game going to be in that scenario? The Giants were trailing 24 to 7 at the break. You don't just fire up the run game at that point. I do think there is some noise in the improvements defensively for the Chargers run game. And we saw the chiefs have some success running it in that week three matchup. Now when I look at trending metrics since the buy, the Chargers are 19th in EPA per play allowed 22nd and success rate out. The first 7 weeks pre buy, the Chargers were 19th and EPA per play allowed 29th and success rates. So my gut says yes, some incremental improvement has taken shape with the Chargers defense and when Darwin and asante returned, that's massive. But I'm kind of just struggling with the Chargers right now. Let's put a magnifier on what's transpired semi recently. You can't forget the drubbing Baltimore put on the Chargers pre buy. And then the Chargers come out of the bay, they lose to the Patriots. Nothing wrong with that, although the scoreboard. Closer than reality with that late touchdown, which we were all happy about, because I think we went over in that game Todd. And then that game was more of a sweat than it ever should have been. That's for damn sure. Yes, there was some rare stuff transpiring in the red zone early and in the green zone. It took Justin Herbert going 32 for 38 to kick a game winning field goal to beat Philly. You lose to the Vikings, you hold on for dear life against Pittsburgh, but gave up 37 to a steelers team that had a quarterback clear to play. I believe Saturday at midnight, Big Ben had to hop on a private plane at 2 a.m. to fly across the country for a Sunday game. Denver embarrasses you. And then the Chargers beat Cincinnati, a projected 6 and a half win team before the season. And then you beat the Mike glennon led giants. I'm having a real tough time with the Chargers in general. When you look at the Chargers offensively, we know life without rashon slater won't be easy tonight against the Kansas City Chiefs. Although they are given a little bit of a lifeline, no Chris Jones, who leads the chiefs and sacks with 7. He would be unavailable as well..

"Some of the things that happened while we were watching this game and I remember seeing this, it was like, I think this was before the half. They show Derwin James running to the locker room and it was like, well, wait a minute. The defense is still out there. Yeah, yeah. Durham, where are you going? I didn't see this. I didn't know he disappeared. I didn't see it. Oh yeah, scared me. The telecast, they put it, it was like they highlighted it and then Tony Romo was like, oh yeah, and derwent headed back to the locker room. He was like, he was full spray. He's like, let's get this x-ray done and get out of here. Well, yeah, whatever it was. I mean, at the time, we didn't know. He wasn't limping. He wasn't carted off. It was like he was just going. So it was like, weird, like the defense is out there. What's going on? Come to find out after Fernando Ramirez talked to Joey Bosa, apparently Joey Bosa said that Derwin James, his shoulder dislocated. And so he ran to the locker room to get his shoulder popped back in, and it made it just seemed like nothing because he was pretty much back out there like immediately. So the Brandon still he said that both of those guys Joey Bosa, who was obviously playing injured, we knew that it would be might not have played on Sunday, but he did play through the pain, played amazingly as did Derwin James. Staley called them both warriors and understandably

"It's still effective. Maybe like if you're a defensive coordinator how would you try and stop that guy. Well that's a great question. And considering gus bradley being a new addition and hopefully it will turn things around for the raiders who have struggled to to feel the truly competitive defense in the last couple of years and what was interesting. Not only about what. Gus bradley did which was used on a dime. A lot of five six db or safety looks to try and crowded field but number one in that kind of defense or in that That wildcard matchup. Pardon me it was a tough situation because the chargers had just played the ravens and lost them two weeks prior in carson and it was quite difficult for the ravens. Who had greg roman come in as tight ends coach and kind of an offensive assistant and they add some packages for lamar jackson. They ended up running a lot. More of a very basic zone read scheme Sprinkled in more peos and Had some some pretty standard kind of run concepts leads. I saw some Just pretty normal stop inside zone and it felt like that package got expanded but not a ton in two weeks and so on the chargers were able to lineup. Derwin james in the box not only who i think. This question was asked Earlier somewhere in the twitter sphere if you had to pick one defender in the nfl to corral Lamar jackson and open space. Would be my pick is derwin james. And he's got the length. I think he has the the raw speed move. Inability ended the just pure aggression. Dermot james will. Miss him tackles and tom. Tom whatever isn't a charter. Show enough to get two hundred zero and jane. But joey bosa was also factor in that game. So you're lining up derwin james right to the outside of outside shade of joey bosa. You're gonna joey bosa. Collapsing is the unblocked defender with darren. James playing the quarterback on a read option. Not you know the counter scheme the counter bash the quarterback power. Whatever you wanna call it. You're lining up a basic zone. Read scheme those are probably two of the very best defenders one to crash in two to play lamar jackson that there are and going even further. Melvin ingram the chargers took they line up over the ravens left guard. Who has james hurst and mark era. Melvin ingram absolutely warped james hurst. James hirsch gets pulled out of the game then rookie. Bradley goes gets put in. Guess what. Melvin ingram keeps open him. I think lamar jackson got hit eleven times that game. So the there's three. Fumbles hurrell kenneth. Dixon fumbled twice. And i believe gus. Edwards fumbled as well in like a five play sequence for the ravens. They lost two of them So that's that's never going to be good. But what ended up having their. The chargers took a lead. They started place cover four. They dropped back into quarters. And lamar jackson started picking apart. Which is what people always forget about the game. He threw for one hundred and eighty yards. Two touchdowns ended up having the ball with fifty seconds left. No timeouts on. The chargers are on the ravens. Forty yard line with a chance to go. Win the game with a touchdown and a lot of people. Forget that so. I do think that gus bradley did a great job of lining up to fantastic athletes and having a plan for it but at the same time the ravens run game since then is an entirely different beasts from what they don't run it on his own read anymore. They run a lot. more opinion. Poll type option concepts run a lot. More quarterback bash things like that so it is a Very difficult question to answer. But i i would just say the general best game plan is to go into a too high structure. And if you wanna play that at a nickel. That's fine i. I would prefer being able to run. Whatever the ravens are gonna get you in you know. That's that's a problem. We'll get into josh oliver more. We talk more about the rams offense. But that's a problem that presents when you can put a josh oliver and to mark andrews on the field in a two tight end set in twelve personnel are in twenty two personnel. Because they can go empty out of it and if you put based on the field. They're going to be able to to go empty to throw the ball. And if you put a nickel on the field they're gonna they're gonna go under center. They're going to go into pistol and they're going to run the ball down your throat and make a safety play like a linebacker but i do think crowding between the numbers playing a too high structure where you have safeties better vision that can fill on each side and what you want to do. Is you wanna ask the ravens to beat you on the outside the perimeter passing game which has been the answer to get the ravens out in the playoffs. While lamar jackson doesn't seem to really love any of his outside targets they've lacked mark andrews big body and that's definitely more is number one target but he doesn't play on the outside he plays in the slot he plays in line so are now they go out. They get sammy. Watkins go out to get reshad. Bateman thailand wallace. Josh oliver's well. Now as i mentioned so you've got some better perimeter options actually out of i believe forty five passes thrown to wide receivers that were on in boundary alignments meaning the outside wide receiver in the formation and extra z. Markey's brown had thirty three of those targets. So they were if markey's brown is lined up out wide. He's the only one that's getting the ball. Miles boykin had a lot of trouble. The last couple of years particularly last year so they really lacked competent and especially physical play on the boundary. Which is why guy like brian edwards. Who might may drafted last year. Someone that i was really targeting in the draft last year is a good fit for the ravens. And also i thought hollywood brown's a little bit of a strange fit when they drafted him in twenty nineteen but Do think that the gus bradley plan ken. Ken worked to an extent but if the ravens are able to effectively use their boundary. Receivers guys like devon d'auvergne as well..

"Who's been on the field quite a bit with the first team when they're in their dime defense Help he's on the back end more playing as a a deep safety alongside sierra leone when they're when they've got six defensive back on the field and mark webb another guy. They've they've had him playing money star. He played some safety played. Some corner Seems like at least a couple of times in every practice. He's breaking up. Pass picking off a pass making a big play somewhere Usually with the second thirteen but he sees seen some time with the first team as well so this is a group that i said pretty locked in. Probably not a reason to carry more than four safeties at this point Especially if they're you know. They're kind of cross. Training chris harris to play some safety. They've got some flexibility there And they've got guys they can move around so A fun group and probably leaves ben deluca looking for a practice squad spot at best. Oh definitely yeah this is. This is an easy group. I mean german. James derwin james and like you mentioned. They're giving him everything. Everything's on his plate. He has become a chesapeake now. And he's now the captain the defense. So whatever football god you pray to pray that derwin james stays on the field. Because i can't wait to see derwin. James in a full season with the chargers in this expanded role was daily defense. Now nazir adderley. Who's been playing deep safety. Guy walked down the box a lot and camp. He plays him slot. Like you mentioned so another guy. That's a versatile piece and damn near looks like a linebacker. He has bulked up so much in the off season. He looks huge. I hope it helps them out. The south round pick mark webb has like you mentioned makes him plays and camp banged up on wednesday but You know what we know is that he played star georgia and they're doing the same thing with the chargers he's another guy lighthizer weight moving around in that star position. He has some versatility to this defense. And a low high gilman is gonna make this team by sheer numbers. A guy that they've thrown out his deep safety which i don't love particularly but has played strong safety and free safety Not a guy you expect to see the field maybe special teams but hopefully hopefully hopefully. You're not seeing too much. Aloha gilman and like you mentioned. Udf eight benda. Luca i mean. He played both safety and corner. He's a low. An athlete isn't a great tackler What he does make up for it is in his instincts but his best shot of course at practice squad. Those guys during when james adderley mark web low. I gilman making this team Ben deluca the odd man out looking for practice. What spot so. There's a lot of versatility with these. Db's linebackers this whole defense. And i believe is cory linsey. Who talked about what a pain in the ass. This defense was to go against they just create fits and you just love to see it and he loved to hear all of it i know is just camp right now but what we all expected from brennan staley being creative with his defense versatile having moving pieces and being the new. I don't wanna say like the future of the nfl but being that more athletic defensive group than that like standard bland. Gus bradley defense. I don't see a lot of picket fence. Defenses coming from brandon stay on no picket fence fences. And i think the the phrase that that lindsey used was there not a standstill defense. They're not stagnant. They're not all coming from the same spot in the defense. Every single play doing the same thing. Every single play guys are moving around. They're playing different. Positions are taking on different responsibilities though be attacking from different spots on the on the defensive line. I'm sure we'll see a lot of kenneth murray blitzing. we'll probably see a lot of kaiser. White buzzing lot of derwin coming down into the box and blitzing so lots of ways to create pressure a lot of ways to create havoc And a lot of uncertainty based on the way they're moving guys around. It's going to be difficult for for opposing quarterbacks to identify coverages identify pressure packages. It's going to be out. It's probably gonna take a few weeks for teams to catch up to what the charges are doing so it might give them a chance to get off off to an early start while teams are adjusting to what they're doing and how they're doing it and who's being moved around and whether going mike give these guys a chance to make some plays and re wreck some havoc before before teams catch up so it's a good way to start the season. Everybody's going in blind. Yeah there's a lot of fun things to look forward to as we go into the preseason against the rams for week one so that'll do it.

Cat this is a playoff-caliber football teams. That needs to find an explosive weapon. On offense jalen waddell brings them dat. Let's go out west. Mike can't about the most important non quarterback in the afc west. it is derwin james greenie. He's only played in five games in two years. And you and. I both love justin. However you don't how explosive on offense is gonna be. We know about joey. Your point almost never seems to happen with brilliant rookie. And he's been banged up ever since dan. Let's go to the. Amc was the most important non quarterback and that division big play ob j. His offense in cleveland was last year. They need someone to create big plays in the past game for them last year there were twenty fifth in the nfl. In twenty five yard or more passes he can bring that to this offense. Too big play play action bombs down the middle of the field to stretch the sideline odell beckham closes the gap between the browns and a super bowl. I liked that a lot and the browns obviously a team thinking about winning that division. How about their archrivals.

"The last couple of years off nichols a great running back. He's not like a true workhorse back where he's taking fifteen twenty carries per game right. I mean he's getting twenty plus touches but this is the guy who is two years removed from almost eating thousand receiving yards. And he's their number one running back. I mean so. They have to figure out how to be more of a balanced offense. And it's like the passing. The vertical game is fantastic but hopefully this offensive line creates ground game on. That's a lot more consistent. You know last supposed to be a big year for us Gets hurt against the bucks rent. Plays ten games so we have to wait another year to see that can really be. You know the team's leading rusher but until then there's still a lot of hyphen. Hope especially with his offensive line. Now want to switch to the defensive side. As i listened to derwin james back in the mix man. This has been incredibly frustrating to watch from afar. You mentioned the afc west things whether you're a chief's fan raiders. Fan charge fan whatever. This is a really high caliber player that makes the league better. When he's on the field. Do you think that this is finally the year that derwin james can stay healthy throughout. What's the confidence level coming out of. La you know. I can't say there's anywhere near one hundred percents confidence in that is going to come back. He's gonna be a perfect form and he's going to have a heck of a year because we've just seen again two years in a row were just something happens. Negative has been seeing for the chargers over the past. How many years But one of the things that does give you. Some confidence is seeing how keen announce career has progressed right. Like he had to back to back years where. I think it was twenty fifteen. He he lacerated his kidding on touchdown catch against the ravens in game. I think Eight so played half season out for the rest of the year and then before a right before halftime i believe it was against the chiefs and week. One of sixteen where he tours. Acl just from running around not contact injury out for the year so this players who had all this was going to be good we all knew it is heard mrs. You know one and a half seasons back to back like that's and then comes back to have three straight seasons of a thousand yards four straight season two hundred plus catches. I think he only fell eight yards short of thousands past year and he he was dealing with injuries or else that strictly continue to know so that gives me confidence knowing that players were truly great. Truly special will find a way to bounce back from something like this. Lesser players may not find those chances that high but gallic derwin james main talking with him you know in some of these press conferences and asking how how he's handled of the time away from football how he's better than sell them. He's in the season way. He speaks out confidence..

The game last Sunday Had Bengals fans raving about his debut. But is Joe Burrow himself put it this week, He struggled big time for the 1st 3.5 quarters of the game. Consider this nugget. His passer rating in his first NFL start. Was almost identical to Ryan Finley's in his first NFL start last year, 66.1 to 66.9 that is not meant as a knock toward either of them, but it does show There's a lot of room for improvement for Joe and game too. There's no doubt about it, Dan. I mean, he was over five. On balls or thrown 20 yards or more in the air and a jade green. John Ross, just Potential touchdown passes that could not connect on and he's been connecting on them all training camp. Great touch over the 2nd and 3rd, 2nd and 3rd level And so it's it's It's pretty pretty remarkable that he was over five in that situation. Then he was also over five under pressure that that's another thing that you know he's usually better under pressure than that play action. He was five for six. 83.3% play action, So I think the formula is get that running game going with Joe Mixon, who averages over 100 yards of game in his career six games against the Browns 608 yards rushing. A career high 162 yards over six yards per carry in the finale last year. 41 Year old long a couple of touchdowns Pound Joe downhill between the tackles and get some play action passing going where there's gonna be some room between linebackers that have toe step up towards the line of scrimmage and in the back end. I mean, the Cleveland Browns are good at defensive line. They're missing one of the good players. Olivier Vernon, but their young at linebacker and their injury at the safety position they're down greedy Williams of corner When they're beaten up there, Their defense is down. Three legitimate starters and their Conklin is AH started. They got in free agency. He's got an ankle problem. He's going to play only in emergencies, and they're starting right tackle starting right tackle Chris Hubbard's going to start in his stead. So they're beaten up a little bit. And for the second week in a row, Dan A young safety Derwin James for the charges. It was a big loss when the charges last Derwin James Grant, tell Del Pit high draft pick Achilles injury not going to play. In this football game, so you gotta take advantage of these opportunities when they present themselves and I think we'll see Joe Burrow play with a lot more consistency than we saw in that first game. I think he'll pick up Where he left off in that final drive that ultimately could have been should have won the football game. And you mentioned Joe Mixon success running the ball against the Cleveland Browns, averaging 101 rushing yards in six career games. He also averages 33 receiving yards. Against the Cleveland Browns. So 134 yards on average of offense for Joe Mixon, head to head in the Battle of Ohio. This will be the 94th edition tonight. The Bengals lead the all time serious against the Browns. 51 to 42. They've one night out of the last 13 or getting fired up for Thursday night football from Cleveland. For now, let's go back to box. This's.

"That's how you should compensate them but it does make it very, very interesting and now the guy who I was curious to see when it was time to pay Derwin James Jamal Adams like how we're going view their safety position during James with the injury changed the conversation a little. Adams based on how he plays, but the wait is going now there's a clear vital how teams value certain positions on defense it is about getting to the passer ambien able to cover the number one receiver and on office is about protecting the passer given the passer and explosive option on the perimeter. Indian having a passer Deca make it happen and so I think when decision makers stick to the high standard for what it is required to make the data amount of money I think they'll be fine but you can't pay the next quarterback forty million dollars just because he's do that into Shawn Watson and Pat Mahomes right there more. But I do think it brings about an interesting conversation with two guys Lamar Jackson. And Act Prescott. Lamar Jackson is in the conversation because you can look at home to say all the great things about Pat Mahomes how Pablo homes has basically revolutionized position with the numbers that he's put up you make the same argument in a different way for Lamar Jackson second year MVP the numbers that the ravens offenses put up or whatever the trick will be when the Mar- Jackson's people come to the table and they say we won't Pat Mahomes type money forty, million dollars do the Ravens say okay. Yeah. We'll. But we'll do it on two or three year term. So we can protect ourselves from his style of play and the durability issues that can come up with the approach it like that for Dak Prescott. If I'm his representatives I make the argument with the Shawn. Watson a great Shawn Watson is at thirty million dollars, thirty nine million dollars. But Hey, let's look at his accomplishment based on Dak Prescott Dijon. Watson has only have one season over four thousand yards that was at forty, one, hundred, his record and winning percentage is about sixty four percent DAK Prescott is sixty two percent. Dak Prescott has a forty nine, hundred your season. Under his lead with a couple of playoff berths. So now when you're at the table, you can't say, no, no no I can't pay you that because his people were pushed the numbers across and say if the Shawn Watson this how come we're not at this same thing I just think it makes for a fascinating discussion when we get to that mark for those two guys in particularly not necessarily the other Gaza come behind. Yeah it is going to be to see what happens to me I I've said it from the beginning they're gonNA. They're gonNA little bit over pay for deck. And you're going to feel just fine about it in the future or you're going to wait and you're GONNA have to pay through the nose man I. I think he's going to be an MVP, the League, the people killed me on out on twitter by the way when I look at what he has around him and I think Dak Prescott has a legitimate shot to. NBC The National Football League, and you didn't pay him..

Los Angeles Chargers safety Derwin James expected to miss 2020 season after knee injury, per reports

"The Los Angeles chargers. Yeah we mentioned. Like the the injuries like Nick, for instance it. Bradley. Chubb is such a mystery right now, there's more mysterious injury situations around the league than I think we know there's less reporting, but Derwin James is injury on Sunday. We know know the extent to it but I know that it's the most caught or I think it's the most costly time injury that there's been since camp started. Because I think he brings out the best in the coaching staff getting to be more creative. This is a bad defense with a lot of talent last year they weren't in the top twenty most efficient defenses. A lot of good players. Yeah. No they didn't have Derwin James, but that's pretty disappointed. He unlocks the cornerbacks you know he he unlocks his tactic partner ratio Jenkins who played really well. I just think he's such a unique special talent losing James is devastating for this defense in it's GonNa put a little more pressure on their offense in tyrod the score some points because I don't think you can count on them being top five upside defense when Derwin James is not on the phone I don't like that term more pressure on tyrod Taylor to Scorpions I know that everyone is fascinated with tyrod Taylor right now it's plain out and it's not fair to him, but it's almost. I think it's like a little bit of the hard knocks after I know. I, mean, it's just that's what happened in Cleveland what a leader what a guy and I think he is, and I think the coaching staff really loves Anthony. Lynn loves tyrod Taylor the person in wants Tim to be functional but the problem is tyrod. Taylor stops being fun about three weeks from now and then you got a rookie quarterback that when. Coaching them. He did he had some moments to be fair when he was in Buffalo In Buffalo yes. Not In Cleveland and I just think that there was I don't know come on. I, mean Austin to me is the centerpiece on that offense I believe in until the end but they're wide receiver right now back he's not but look at their wide receiver position. So what how do you WanNa talk about scaring the defense with a mobile quarterback, but they can't do anything they had said they're gonNA. They're immobilizing how how versatile they can be through the air. I think it's a rough place for Justin. Herbert. To get starts early to I, don't like that at all.

Jalen Ramsey Active, Will Start for Jaguars vs. Titans After Requesting Trade

"Moving onto jalen Ramsey he wants out of Jacksonville unfortunately for him he will be playing against the dines tonight for Jacksonville in Jacksonville the Jags all pro cornerback has requested a trade but we'll be active again with the trade seemingly coming sometime after the game so C. C. which contender should try to acquire Jalen Ramsey. I don't mean I it doesn't have to be a contender tender for me right now. We only played two games. Everyone's a contender the giants I think we make a quarterback's which we right back into this but I think there are certain places that would be better perform. I think the raiders Jon Gruden got the CAP space. They got a really young teen. They could use the corner play. They could also use a star going to Las Vegas the Tennessee Titans. I do believe coach coons. He was a legendary highschool coach coach at Ohio State. He only coastal hieaux until last year we took the job in Tennessee variable who has experienced at Ohio state went there and got him. He is a great defensive back coach in his hometown there with the Titan the raiders are the titans feel are the smoothest transitions for him for a guy that has that type of skill set big corner wants to play a lot of man to man and as we said before he's from Tennessee and wants to go back there and anytime if you can get a big time star like that in a smaller market like Tennessee yeah I think that they should look into that particularly when he's listed the titans previously before the season as a place he'd like to play sometimes you worry big-time star. Would he be happy going to a small market the size of the market in Jacksonville's not why he's unhappy and because of his roots in Tennessee he has already said Nashville would be a place. He wants to thirty proven that he can get national attention no no matter no matter what I mean he's he's one of the star players in the league and one of the faces of the League that we have on the defensive side of the ball one team you mentioned yesterday for I give a couple of others that that I thought really interesting was Philly Philly. Obviously is a contender philly that is the place where they need. I would argue help the most on the back end of their defense particularly the corners because is I liked now. Come Jenkins. I understand we're talking about phillies injuries those they deal with spate of season ending injuries for Philadelphia with how active Howie Roseman has been and how great he's been at almost manipulating the cap to free up space when they need it you would mention philly yesterday that to me is a really interesting fit. It would be something that if you're the Dallas cowboys and you see wait eagles got who the Eagles got jalen Ramsey at the not even at the deadline a month into the season that could be a game changer. I'M GONNA mention a team no one's attaching them to but I think they have the space the picks they have the need. What about the Los Angeles Angeles chargers now maybe they don't WanNa pay Jalen Ramsey they all they're going to have to pay Joey Bosa two guys but they have the cap space to do it? They they are right now. They know that last year they were this close to being the number one seed in the AFC Derwin James is going to come back at some point at the end of the season they already have an extraordinary corner in Casey Hayward but they're starting a guy who was an undrafted free agent couple years ago at the other corner spot if you added few had Casey Hayward Jalen Ramsey Ramsey winter when James comes back that immediately becomes far and away the best secondary in the NFL well for one next year to pay Joey Bosa Casey's already already making a bunch of money Derwin James you already know you're going to have to pay him now. Both of those guys being from Florida state sometime. You think that oh well. Maybe that would work well. Maybe that might Mike not work so I don't know they haven't been the most contract friendly to their player. Philip rivers doesn't have a contract so to me. That's a lot of money that a team that is not customary to pay a lot of money. I don't think they would have that kind of money tied up in their secondary. Just two more teams quickly obviously yesterday. We talked a lot about the chiefs. It's for the cheap since the best player available at the biggest position of need but I do think the chiefs would have real cap issues with that Patrick mahomes going to become the highest paid player forever a year from now. They paid tyreek Hill. They went they paid frank. Clark may be above market. Sammy Watkins they can get off him next year. If they want to play really well race you're adding the highest paid corner in. NFL history was what Jalen is going to become would be tough to keep an eye on the colts though called I mean the colts have enormous cap space the draft capital. They're obviously going to try to win without being a super explosive offense the culture. If I'm Chris Ballard with Andy I am calling Jacksonville and bill and trying to take their temperature on that but he plays his last game tonight for the Jaguars most likely absolutely that would be my guess about eight players to borough road

"That there on the back of my neck stood up you know I understand the rams around the world I love Carolina I love. okay I love the get government out yes one of the best running I think the best all purpose running back in football I know there's other running backs that are good one way or the other I like the ramps minus the one and a half I'm gonna go out there on a limb and take the ramps and at this game because in my opinion you look at this game I think people are expected big things out of the Panthers and the wind is going from twenty up down the one. reckless footballs always tough on LA's got across the country and play early but Mike he's going rams there that defense is is so good they paid Jared Goff obviously and expect to make it all about the Superbowl I'm gonna go to one of the west coast games first I like the cold get nearly a touchdown against the Chargers you know the charges have been slow starters here recently the last three years wanting to open for and one in four no Melvin Gordon obviously know Derwin James which is a huge injury for that defense I don't think the colts will be quite as bad without Andrew luck in getting the six and a half I will take the cold out in San Diego this weekend is one of my best place or not it doesn't usually happen ladies and gentleman but I I you said their plan to charges right yeah I got the charges on the money lined in oak box to win one hundred dollars that doesn't happen too often Carmen I we don't talk about our picks before the show very rarely do we intersect year but dot this is going to be one of those games a lot when you know when we can both win that. you might look they don't buy three we both win so that be perfect I'm with you I'm with you I want to get there and I'm on a roll with Bruce Arians you know we talked about table over the offseason I think Aaron's will be good for them I think that offense is going to be good with the weapons they happen is I think Aaron's can fix games wins that a little bit their defense is gonna be questionable I like the rookie VLS you fresh yeah the kid from Ellis you Devon white I think will be really good for the box but lane just a point against San Fran not an early game from San Fran that's where the late kicks in Florida one of the the forty twenty five the four twenty five kick but I like the box minus one again San Francisco in the open I think they'll do well under Bruce Arians.

Chargers vs Ravens: Are You Ready?

"We talked about this on Sunday night when the ravens are running at a running the ball at a pace unseen since the mid nineteen seventies. The chargers are built to stop a lot of good modern offense. That's so true. The chiefs they're playing the Rams and they stick with them a little bit. Yeah. Obviously these play these teams we've seen how it's gone big. I'm packages he flexible up the field pass rush Derwin James can do anything back there. Well, you fill Adrian Phillips in his a dime. Linebacker cover tied to corners can stick with guys and Craig three Deepa corner. Yep. So how do you beat the modern defense? Give them something. That is thoroughly unmodern you give them. Lamar Jackson running the ball more than anybody since the nineteen seventies. I'm in and you also have a situation where the chargers a really thin at linebacker. I believe she's Davis Brown is out for the season. Now, Denzel Perriman is already out. So you're pretty much your best run defenders are not going to be playing this game. Corey leauge. It's already out for the year. That's why I'm picking Baltimore. Even though I love this chargers team. I just think it's. A bad batch. And then you go off to the side of the ball. And watching them play last time, I talked to Philip rivers a little bit recently. And he said that, you know, very rarely this season where we ever just thoroughly outplayed. And that's what happened last time against Baltimore. And I watched the good shrunk of that game. Again, a couple of hours ago, and you just watching this Baltimore secondary the defense in general, but especially the secondary. And so much of what they do. I just watch a play. Like, why don't know what that coverage was? I don't know. What that covers was there. The way they spin the safeties and weta moving around all this all over the place and just how complex everything is.

Chargers vs Steelers: Post-game analysis

"Incident. This is sports center right now, I'm on Tony Collins. There was no shortage of controversy in last night's game. Between the chargers and Steelers all eating to quarterback Philip rivers seventh career comeback in a game in which his team trail by sixteen or more points. Let's take you out to Pittsburgh. We'll take this up for the chargers trailing thirteen to nothing in the I keep your eye on right? Tackle Sam Tevi. Let's take a false start. No plaque and Philip rivers. Throws deep to Travis Benjamin for a forty six yard touchdown. He J watt Live Aid at the no com. So in the fourth charges were rally sixteen down three seconds left. Mike bats Leon's for the game. Winning thirty nine yard field goal attempt offsides on the Steelers. So now that's from thirty four yards out. And the Steelers are off-side once again so now bachelor from twenty nine yards. He gets a done Tomlin was asked about the chargers. First touchdown. Guys. I'm not getting into all of the officiating elements of what transpired at high. It was communicated. I'm just not is fruitless it doesn't change the outcome of the game. We're not gonna put it into the ref sans. We need to play better football. Like I said we didn't play we didn't play well enough on offense. Now, let's get you back. I take Steelers sixteen point lead at home at Philip rivers. Engineers a seventh career comeback win to handle a three point loss to improve to nine in three on the season. Pittsburgh oh in three versus AFC west opponents this season. Max was this one more about the chargers or the Steelers? This is about the chargers, and they beat a good team in Pittsburgh on the road. Pittsburgh in the history of their franchise. It never come had never lost the game. They were leading by that by sixteen points. I mean at home in those circumstances the first time ever one hundred seventy wins. No losses and the chargers did it. This is about the chargers. And I've said for the preseason I believe they're going to make the Super Bowl this year. It tested my faith a couple of weeks ago with the turnover at the end of the game Philip rivers at a certain point you go. Listen, maybe you're not just snake bit. Maybe this franchise does it to themselves. Maybe Philip rivers isn't destined to makes. Of course. I had those thoughts not stick with them. When posted gets back. Let's see what's what he was making plays Derwin James making plays. They have stars on the defense. They obviously had stars on the offense with or without Melvin Gordon and Philip rivers guys. He was going down. It piece by piece at times with guys tackling them in the face of pressure sticking his receivers. He was so big time. He lied manning had his time to Super Bowls. Ben Rothlisberger had his time. You know, even the off sides, of course, the charges miss a field goal. And they're going to lose the game. All that. So chargers, right. Like, that's the way they lose sometimes new organization like that a player like rivers just needs a break to get away. What's up break went their way? And they got the win on the road. These are the two they've looked like the most well balanced teams in the AFC so far this season. And the chargers went and took it to them and beat them on the road. This is the charger season story is about them. Yesterday. Score is not about them about. The Steelers, and it was about still because it still has had a twenty three to seven lead and Lewitt. It's that simple to me the charges. Anthony Lynn is doing a fabulous job. He deserves a lot of credit. I'm very impressed with what I saw him. Do. They remain compose. They stayed with their game plan despite being down sixteen that says a lot about the coach their belief in him, etc. Etc. Mave respect for that. They they did it. And when special teams they did it with their running game. They did it with Philip rivers. They deserve a lot of credit for that. I get that. But my bottom line is this you had a twenty three to seven lead on your home turf. A right in those situations. Careerwise franchise wise you like two hundred zero into and you lose a game to the Los Angeles. Chargers. I'm looking at Big Ben Rothlisberger missing a wide open receiver. Nobody within twenty yards FM. Missed a missed that. Touchdown throw. Threw an interception again as well. I'm pointing to that. I'm looking at it. From that perspective. I'm looking at the defense. I'm looking at the secondary. And I'm saying to myself once again, we find ourselves with the Steelers team that is good. But shows us as a season Wayne that is. Good as they are. There is something missing. That says to you. I should not believe in them when it counts whether it's against New England and Tom Brady who by the way, they'll play again, they'll play in a couple of weeks they've gotten the wall leads and the New England Patriots on their schedule. Two of the last four weeks this season. I'm damn near depressed thinking about it for crying out because once again, just win at six straight. But they lost a game. They needed to win. And they should have wanted to get the Denver Broncos. Now, they find themselves as a team that's just gonna win their division. Go to the postseason. And then we got a hope
