"Until he shows he can, no one should ever believe he will again. And I mean, the Michigan fans I talked to going into this football game were like, we think we're gonna get exposed next week against Michigan state. Somebody even wrote in with that on Patreon. So I think Michigan fans realize who they are. And then the question is, a lot of people are saying, should Jim Harbaugh be fired? It's like, well, you have to decide what do you want? Is Michigan okay, not beating Ohio State, not beating. Michigan state, when they have a good year or are they just, are they satisfied winning? 9 or ten games a year and being very, very good or does Michigan want even more? Does Michigan want to get to the college football playoff? If they do, they probably got to find a better coach. But it's hard to fire a coach like Jim Harbaugh who's winning a ton. But isn't quite winning enough. Because do you risk losing Jim Harbaugh and going taking a step backward as a program? So a lot of interesting conversations are going on at Michigan. Personally, I think I realized hey, you're a tough academic school in the Big Ten, and you're winning a lot of football games. I think you should just be happy. But the question is, is Michigan happy with what they're doing? And do they want even more out of their football program? A game number two, number 18 auburn beat number ten ulmus 31 to 20. This is a really fun football game. Auburn quarterback Bo next played really, really well. He was 22 for 30 passing with 276 yards. One touchdown passing two more rushing, I like bone mix, man. Bone nicks is a guy that I don't know. I just need to watch this film. I feel like I say this every week. I don't really know where he's going to land as an NFL quarterback. I need to do a deep dive into his film, but every time I watch bone next, I see good stuff that I like, and I'm like, well, it wouldn't shock me if bone nicks ended up being a good quarterback in the NFL. I just, I don't know that I have enough film analysis done on my end to make a declaration like that. It was pretty sad, old myths had multiple opportunities late in the game to make it interesting. They could not do that in the third quarter, almost had multiple turnovers. They turned over the ball on downs two times in auburn territory. That's brutal for oldness. And then late in the fourth quarter, they threw an interception in the end zone. Almost kept getting in their own way. I mean, they just, it was a much closer game than 31 to 20 would suggest, but on this, just could not make key plays when it mattered most in the second half. Now, the other game I watched that had no bearing on the college football player. There's only one more every other game we'll talk about from here now. It's about in relation to the college football playoff. But number 11 Notre name beat number I guess unranked North Carolina 44 to 34. It's another fun game man. UNC made it interesting..

"Without Derrick Henry at running back. And I guess we're going to find out. I thought it might be a game or two. I thought maybe I was what I really thought was going to happen is at some point Tennessee's going to a defense against Tennessee's going to load the box, take away the running game. I did not anticipate, oh, you might lose Derrick Henry for the entire year. And I think the season is probably over. I don't know that they can, they're passing game in my opinion, can not elevate them to succeed the way they've done in previous weeks throughout the rest of the year. Maybe Adrian Peterson's fantastic filling in and as much better than anybody expected, although I will say there's a reason why he wasn't on a team already. Every NFL team had an opportunity to sign Adrian Peterson in August and they chose not to. So there's something there. I wonder, how does the Titans passing game do and play action without Derrick Henry? Maybe they can't even use it because is the threat to run. It's not going to be equal to what it was before Derrick Henry. And the question is, again, can Tennessee throw to win? I don't think so. Although I will say it's a bit, people are really eager to declare the Titans season over. Let's give them some respect. They've got a great safety. They've got two good receivers. They've played really good football and certain parts of their season. And I just, they're not nothing without Dara Henry. I just don't know that they're the same without Derek Henry pretty clearly. That's an obvious statement. So I want to give it a couple of games. We'll see how things go. It's possible, Tennessee will be okay because maybe Adrian Peterson's great, maybe the passing game steps up. I thought they'd been making progress all year long. But I'm not going to declare the season over. But they're on the watch list and we'll see they're kind of on probation. And in three or four weeks, we'll see where is Tennessee now and if they fall, what if they're 6 and 6, four weeks from now? They're 6 and two right now. They lose four games in a row, then you're like, well, clearly they're not a Super Bowl contender. They're kind of there were already a team I wasn't sold as a Super Bowl contender before the Derrick Henry injury. Now I'm like, well, pretty clearly, they're not. So we'll see what happens. I don't want to, again, I don't want to be in a hurry to write them off, but I'm very, very skeptical. This is great for the colts. Unfortunately, the colts lost. If the colts, the colts are three and 5, Tennessee 6 and two, the question is can Tennessee keep that gap wide enough to win the division? I have no idea. But that's going to be a really interesting race throughout the rest of the year. Now, there was the trend of a trade deadline was really, really boring. There wasn't a lot that happened. Oh no that can junior in OBJ didn't get traded Deshawn Watson didn't get traded..

"So you're looking at an rb to in. Eli mitchell. Laugh at last topic on this sorry someone. You're gonna start every week. Absolutely i think so. Look i sat him for khalil. Herbert and i don't regret it. He had a better game clue herbert. But there's no reason why what happened to khalil. Herbert in week eight ended can't happen eli weeknight. You know a lot of work and just not a great one thing you do get the reliably from the forty. Niners is about a little more than a rushing touchdown per game by a running back over the last two seasons. It's pretty reliable. Is trey lance a problem because in the one game that mitchell started with trae lance lance had sixteen freaking carries. How selfish and and only nine for mitchell is that. Do you think that's a problem if they go to lance. I think to a certain extent. I mean obviously trae lance is going to keep the ball on read option. Plays a lot more than jimmy. Garoppolo is garoppolo did score touchdown on a read option. Play this week. I think. I think he to rush downs. Yeah it's it does limit. Perhaps the floor for mitchell but the other thing you have to keep in mind is that russian quarterbacks tend to help running backs efficiency on a per carry basis and so already being in an incredibly efficient offense there are going to be more opportunities for mitchell to break even bigger plays if he's playing with trae lance if the defense makes the wrong read one of those read option place so i do think it comes out in the wash. I think they're running. Game will be better even if the distribution might be slightly different if trailer start all right. Next topic from chris carmichael. What are your thoughts on the return of michael thomas. Return of the return of michael myers halloween. Four the return of michael. Thomas without james winston. Now so i think this is like the third week in a row. We've been talking about the return of michael thomas and the problem with that discussion is michael. Thomas has not been spotted on the practice field yet. So i don't know how close he is nick. Underhill believe he's with new orleans. Football dot com now. I think he started his own site but he was a longtime times picayune reporter. I believe He has made it sound like they're michael. Thomas may not be particularly close right now or at least. He doesn't seem have have any reason to think he is close right now. So i'm pretty concerned. I had michael..

"Of adam dave jamie heath derrick henry tough injury very very unfortunate for the fantasy community. You just never think it can happen a derrick. Henry he's going to be out at least six weeks with a foot injury. And this could be the return of adrian peterson. we'll talk about some of the options in that backfield. And in your fantasy backfield also jameis winston tearing his acl and a lotta news. Maybe we'll get christian. Mccaffrey back this week. That would be a silver lining. But it's monday afternoon and we're bit here with all injury news. But we got to keep you updated we gotta recap last night's very strange game what what happened to the vikings offense last night very hard to diagnose but we'll get into that plus five big topics the emergence of michael carter ally mitchell. What happens to michael thomas now with janus out for the season and we'll talk a little bit dynasty today. What's going on chris. I was your halloween good good. I'm looking forward to this. Podcast and i would really really like it if i knew what we were talking about. Essentially the notes did not nope. Nope you didn't check to this time to make sure i okay. I sent you earlier today. What today's topics but there's other stuff that we're talking about. Yeah i know you put together a whole thing. And i know it's just that you don't really have you. Don't really think of me as part of this show and so you you don't you just never think to send me the notes. I'm sorry i rattled. it's alright. I'm only the lead singer. Well this is definitely something as ventura would do. Very sloppy work all right. So let's start with derrick henry. Six to ten weeks right now. Is the time line foot injury. Hopefully you have an ira spot. If you don't have an are spot. I could obviously understand dropping him if you need the roster space but there is a chance that he comes back for your fantasy playoffs so you have to make that decision. He leaves the nfl with nine. Hundred and thirty seven rushing yards. Nick chubby second. Five hundred eighty four chop has played two fewer games Yeah and this is also wild terms of yards per game. Henry leads the nfl hundred seventeen point. One chubb is second at ninety seven point three. So he's twenty yards rushing yards per game ahead of nick chubb. Another interesting thing. He's the eighth two thousand yard rusher the previous seven. All of them had lost at least one yard per carry on their average the following year. And if i remember. I think henry average the lowest yards per carry of eight a monster about that but i never thought he would lose a full yard per carry and he's a four point three and last year he was a five point four so been a couple of bad games in a row in that regard for him but that was just interested. I'd like one big yard per carry game. He's only had to over five weird. It's a little weird. It's it's been high volume. The volume is so it's really hard to rush for seven yards per carry when you have thirty carries. Yeah that's that's really hard. There's a lot of those four five young two three four yard carries that you you gotta wait until you break the big one to boost the average. Yeah the the the thing with the two thousand yard rushers is..

Titans stop Allen on 4th down, hang on to beat Bills 34-31

"Into the gaps. They don't they. Don't do that with him. Yeah and that's the beauty of the marriage of all this together is you're basically getting derrick henry at top speed On every carey and so even if the defense plays the run well and they meet him. At the line of scrimmage he's going to fall forward with momentum that he wouldn't necessarily have coming out of a standard i formation carry and especially not a shotgun kerry. Because if you think about it. You're building momentum. You're building speed. The titans run allows him to get top speed before he cuts up in starts venturing vertically north south but in a shotgun balls just placed in your in your stomach. It's static you're standing still. And so that's why. I think it's really interesting. It's really brilliant. And they have really sort of made this historic hall of fame worthy career. Out of a back that. I think many people would have looked at is just sort of out of place out of time in another in another situation. Now who's the last back. That was probably is big And his physical. Derrick henry you look at someone like brandon jacobs from the giants who is of somewhat similar size but not nearly the shape. I don't think in the conditioning As derrick henry and was used in that more standard wasted for good moments with brandon jacobs. I'm i remember vividly them kind of describing that offense where it's just you know big people hitting little people and little people falling down but this is a lot different. This is a lot more You know As more of an understanding of the physics behind it the last thing. I kinda wanna touch on here. Is you know we can see statistically what derek hendry's production is how many rushing touchdowns he has it cetera etcetera but. I think there's two things that sort of make him a just carry value. Well beyond what he does is a runner. The verses is value in the in the red zone. What they're able to do down there when the field is small type and they had been one of the best. Reggie offense last two years. But i think there's something that's more difficult to measure and i hate to sort of be the tape. Grind guy to wrapup is show. But if you look at what happens when this team runs play action if you're a defense if you're linebacker the number one thing you want to counter derrick henry is get to him as early as possible in the down you. You can't sit back and wait and be hesitant until this. Two hundred fifty pound guy has built up some and come right out you so when they run play action on these wide zone looks the linebackers just have to suck up aggressively more aggressively. And we know that you don't need to establish run for play action to be necessarily effective but it is more effective with derrick henry because of who he is stylistically and the way he moves in the way you have to defend him so basically. Because derrick henry is her back they have created so much space behind the linebacker level and ryan tannehill. That is his strength. Making those throws that level and derrick henry has just kind of. he's made his life so much easier and he's made the lives of everyone on this offense so much easier just as a function of of who he is and how he plays. If i was john robinson and i was the general manager of the titans. My biggest concern right now would be. Because you're not going to find another derrick. Henry not gonna find someone that's six foot four and two hundred sixty pounds. That can move like that but you can probably What do they say moneyball. You can create them in the aggregate right. You can find a couple of pieces. That together will basically create the same person. But i mean that. That is the frantic search right now. Because once derrick henry goes and once that offense goes i think so goes ryan tannehill so goes. Aj brown aj brown in his open as he was before and doesn't have the yards after the catch which is what he's good at and ryan tannehill doesn't have the windows to throw in that he did before. And so all these things start to sort of slip and stumble and in. Oh it's just a fascinating thing on one hand. They are building this roster. That is perfect in the now and it has gotten them way. Further than people have expected. I think the titans mike variable has outperformed his. Pythagorean win-loss expectation every year is the head coach of the titans running the system. And so it's got them out front of this but it's also so fragile because we we just don't know we don't know if derrick henry outline because he's so big he can he can kind of fend off these hits and he can continue this workload for longer or we don't know if you know father time is is is especially active in the nfl. And he's just kind of given derrick henry a little bit longer. Rumbling s is going to be my focus. As long as i can play this game and the focus for the next season super bowl. And that's all focus on what we preach each other. We're a team..

"Detoxification process that is supposed to help your blood circulation supposed to decrease inflammation it's supposed to promote muscle recovery muscle performance Decreased soreness You know there are some pretty impressive claims here for example It'll put you in a better mood. So maybe we could all use a red bed in our house. We have a five thousand dollars laying around the so that that sounded fun. But it's it's it's interesting right. Athletes are loading up on this stuff because of trainers recommending it and because of the science that is starting to follow it and you want noninvasive mechanisms to heal. That don't involve any painkillers. That don't evolve anything that's going to hurt your body in the long term and so anytime something like this is going to pop up. I think nine times that a ten Someone derrick henry. Henry's position is going to jump at this. Because why wouldn't you it's harmless and It could It could help me recover faster after a workout. So that i can build more muscle and and sort of create this body for the next season That said I you know it really depends on who you talk to. Around the league terms of how effective this is. there are teams that are hiring their own recovery. Experts that are separate from the nutrition staff separate from the training staff. And that specifically deal in this kind of These therapies and then i think that there are probably other teams around the league where you look at it and they say this stuff is a placebo like you know there are teams that like to deal in very hard backed science and if there's only a few studies here they're like okay. You guys can go out and get that on your own. You know if you wanna go out and get that stuff. That's up to you So it it really is interesting. We're sort of at a crossroads right now of player recovery science but there are teams that are literally hiring guys to do this kind of stuff that players like henry seek out in the off season. So the flavor. I'm getting is a little bit of tb twelve On this stuff. And and honestly. I don't know if that's an insult or a compliment at this point. It's the science is so new and if you are looking at a tom brady as a very singular anecdotal piece of evidence. Here you would be like again. Like i wanna i wanna do. Tom brady does. Yeah so let me. I'll i'll put this to you. Put this to the listeners Do this thought experiment On your own time and So a couple years ago. My wife and i went to a vineyard right. And they're a wine show and there was a bunch of vineyards there and they were handing out glasses of wine. And one of the guys says i make all of my wine from pairs only pairs because pairs of the best fruit in the world and Pairs or good for you and pears won't give you a hangover and pairs are full of natural sugar and so you stay there drinking all day and you wake up the next morning and you feel great. Why because this guy is convincing. And he's looking at you and he's telling you that you're not going to have a hangover the next morning and i think that there is an element of that right tom. Brady's guru alex guerrero Is someone that has. Tom brady trust he has. He's in the most intimate sort of circles of his life. And so he says to. Tom brady and sure enough. There is science to support. You know The ingestion of healthy fats and omega and you know that nightshade vegetables do contribute somewhat inflammation. There are studies out there. That backward alex grow is saying. Tom brady but it is the relation of the message. Where it's like this is going to make you better. This is going to make you stronger. This is going to make you healthier and it does by by virtue of not only the nutrients that you're ingesting but by the placebo effect. Right this guy that you trust implicitly over everything is telling you that i promise this is going to make you feel better and so you feel better and i think that there is an element of this in recovery science. Where you go into these buildings. You talk to these people. And they're very convincing in terms of well. There was a study done out of norway. Where if you put this You sit in this bed for five minutes. Your muscles won't hurt anymore. And i think if you're an athlete and you're always searching for that edge you're always looking to change the way that you recover and perform. Why wouldn't you do this. And of course they're gonna pop out feeling a little bit better but is that edge. Does it necessarily put you apart from everybody else. I don't know that's something that we can't answer right now but Does it make you feel better. Does it make you work out harder. Does it make you recover faster in the term. Absolutely i guess the worst case scenario is we all look back in five years and so it didn't really do anything but it also didn't hurt you so no harm no foul think it's it's reminiscent of at a very base level. Gary i know that when you were younger Sort of Tore the roof off of your high school gym. I'm sure and You know. Like i remember. When monster energy drinks came out with Those two leader things of just like chemical Swill and there there was creating in it. They would put like muscle building like very cheap. Very cheap version of this muscle building powder into this like toxic energy drink and all of my friends that i would go down to the convenience store mood those before weightlifting in high school football and then afterwards would be like does the best work out of my life. Was that true. No like there's there's no way we are in this building irresponsibly throwing around weights and not knowing what we're doing but does the label on the box. Say that this is going to make you stronger yet. And so do you tend to feel stronger. Yes that is a huge element of this. I think Personally but it's interesting to hear. Derrick henry trainer talk about the science behind it to for him to send the studies which have been done in our very promising. So i don't want to put this into the category of like whoa who crazy science. Because i think that athletes do need an option. That isn't painkillers to recover. And i do think that there's some great ideas out there that are being tested at a pretty high level. So it's it's interesting to see where the path will lead in a couple of years. But i think this is at least a path that is positive in that. It's not gonna hurt anybody right And one of the therapies. Like we didn't get to his cryotherapy right. You're and that's just time-tested right. You're you're making your muscles cold. You're helping them heal. And so some of that stuff. I think is is good in that. It's harmless and that at worst. It's just making you think you're getting better. So that's how derrick. Henry is taking care of his body but one of the thing. We kind of have to talk about him is how the scheme. He's in kind of takes care of him and how he's not really used in exactly the way that A lot of people think he is just by looking at his his size. The wide zone was invented. The late alex gibbs popularized by the denver.

"At first glance. Derrick henry is a throwback right. I mean he's two hundred fifty pounds. He handles nearly four hundred. Terry's a season. Even his general approach to training. He stated desire to get bigger and stronger. It sounds like it's from a bygone era but calling. Henry a throwback misunderstands the player. How he is uniquely suited to dominate at this very time in football history for reasons that go well beyond just the fact that he is a big back to understand. Henry is to understand exactly how he's able to survive a workload that has simply destroyed running backs in the past both how he maintains his body and how unique offensive scheme not only relies on him but in a way takes care of him. It's to understand how for example in his one hundred eighty two yard three touchdown performance in sunday's comeback win over seattle. He's impacted goes so far beyond what you can read a stat line and it's to understand how in an era when passing numbers are at an all time high and running back valuations are at an all time low. Henry just might be the most indispensable and most important non quarterback in football. Hi i'm gary grandma. And i'm connor or and we're excited to welcome you to the first episode of our new mid week. Nfl show from sports illustrated and the m qb podcasts. And those of you who already subscribe to this feed are used to the breakdowns and analysis. Jenny brenta's connor. Ni- provide on the monday podcast in this space though. We're going to do things a little bit differently. Sometimes it will be a thoughtful discussion of the week's biggest news topic. Sometimes it will be a qna a with a guest. We find interesting. Sometimes it won't be original audio storytelling. And sometimes we're going to dive a little bit deeper into the biggest stories. we do. At sports illustrated these shows will be unique and with that in mind. We're starting off with one of the most eka players in the nfl. derrick henry. Hey hello gary. So we're going to talk about derrick henry day and here we are I just did a fantasy draft for a friend of a friend who was an elementary school teacher. And i was observing this from afar and he derrick henry is still going top five and everybody's fantasy draft. I picked him to win offensive player of the year in project. Him to to lead the league in rushing again. But does anybody really care about the fact that there should be some gigantic red flags because not too long ago. There was this curse of three hundred seventy carries and when the body is supposed to breakdown. Derrick henry has bested that each of the last two seasons. But he doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Yeah we just don't have running backs that handle monster workloads in the nfl anymore. It just isn't done. Except for derrick henry and you look at the last two seasons. The numbers are pretty incredible. Yes so we'll look at twenty twenty. For example derrick henry including the playoffs had three hundred. Ninety six carries dalvin cook for reference. Three hundred twelve. So that's really the difference between his workload and and sort of the next closest workload and then in two thousand nine hundred thousand three hundred and eighty six carries in the playoffs including the playoffs as zeki elliott at three hundred and one and so since demarco murray had four hundred. Thirty six for the cowboys in two thousand fourteen and then immediately flop with eagles next season no one. But derrick henry has topped three hundred and fifty carries in a season and so that he is coming up at three hundred ninety six carry season now followed by three hundred eighty six carry season and not long ago. We were looking at this says. Sort of just the end like we said Back in the late. Nineteen ninety s the denver broncos that won back to back super bowls. Terrell davis had a four hundred and eighty one carry season followed by a four hundred seventy carry season and never played more than eight games in a single season again. Shaun alexander from the seahawks had that four hundred thirty kerry mvp season in two thousand five and never made it sixteen games in a season again and you can go down this list of running backs. Who have had similar workloads and have broken down pretty quickly over time. Larry johnson comes to mind. Neutron means amman green I'm trying to think there's some other ones here really only ladainian tomlinson is the running. Back that comes to mind that has had a consistently heavy Workload and held up over the course of his career Derrick henry is sort of entering that rarified air and people say well what about adrian peterson. Adrian peterson workload is actually pretty. Well managed over his time in minnesota. There wasn't a ton of egregiously large workload seasons for him It was all kind of the medium high range which allowed him to play as long as he did. And so the question becomes you know what what happens to dare can receive. What avenue does he take from here. And look we're early in the twenty twenty one season but it's working. The first thing you have to know is who henry was who he is and how. He's preparing himself every off season. Hello working out. I love being fit into jim. That the ways running hills. Other things i can just so you know i can coming to training. Cabinet come into season to carry the load new. Be able to make plays dubai. On-scene derrick henry grew up on the northeast coast of florida in town. Called you lee as kid. He would idolize older cousins. Who are all huge and jack so he started lifting weights and guzzling protein. Shakes expecting to look like arnold schwarzenegger at the best or at least hoping to look a little bit more like them and it i. It was a frustrating process He said you could sit there and keep doing bicep curls over and over wake up and nothing overnight change but then his body began to catch up to the process he outlined for himself and something of a monster was born high school. Henry rushed for over twelve thousand yards and one hundred fifty three touchdowns gained more than two hundred and fifty yards a game high school so i talked to last winter. Shortly after the season when he was working out at sanders fit performance in dallas texas. He shows up to work with. Melvin a former nba player. Two days after the season ends each year and begins almost daily regimen. That slowly ramps up his body back into football shape through. Five period is segments that can include anything from lightweight. Training to sprinting up. Grassy hills in the dallas area can on those high intensity days. Henry could be doing anything from one hundred. Twenty pound curls to waited hill sprints out in the dallas back country where sanders really wants him to simulate the level of physical wear after three or four five street carries in an nfl game getting them to the point where he's not exhausted after handling six or seven or even eight carries in a row. I'm sure that's something that mike gravel would thank him for later. Work out a send in dallas. Texas would melvin sanders and really. Just try not his jim and saying about like the The first hour worked out. And i loved it and then you know us getting know each other over timing type of people we are and how we like to work kind of like buddhist saint person in the same. I said.

"It's not quite six. If I take four, and I take away to that leaves me with two If I take 22 teams, and I give another four that's six. Amazing. Thank you, Joe for helping us with math. Alan is calling from Toronto Allen you on CBS Sports Radio. Who do you favor to go to the Super Bowl? One. I'm only going to give you one because it makes sense. The Tennessee type visitor already the third best offense and in yards per game. And, uh, the addition of Julio Jones that's going to happen and handsome, even more. He's going to not having as many double coverage is, you know? They already have Derrick Henry and, uh, AJ Brown and kind of hell was 11 and five last journey through for 3819 yards. He's 33 touchdowns. He should crack the 4000 yards months. Invest They were weak at cornerback last year, but they added, Uh they added, uh, Calif parley and Christian Fulton to the corner, so that's going to help him a lot and their a team on a mission to they did poorly in the postseason when they're going to be They're going to be a horse can be reckoned with in this post season. You know they're going to be a team on the mission, so yeah, well their defense the defense was terrible last year. And you mentioned a few names. I believe Christian Fulton is moving into his second year We spoke to Christian Fulton. Last year. He joined us right before he was drafted. And then you have Jack Rabbit, Generous Jenkins. And you know, Bud Dupri is now part of the team coming off of his injury. And so the Titans defense should not be as bad as it was last year. Obviously, as you mentioned Julio Jones is is coming in. He should provide more depth. You got to think about John who Smith, who is gone. You got to think about Corey Davis, who's gone like there were more weapons. But you're bringing in Julio, who is obviously I would say when he's healthy. He's probably the most well rounded wide receiver in the game. So offensively. Does Julio bringing a whole lot? Oh, hell, yeah, he does, But you're bringing in one major weapon while I think you miss a few minor ones. I think that the Titans will win the division. I think the Titans will be a very good team. I think they will compete for a wild card and a playoff spot. I'm just not confident that we're going to get what we saw two years ago where it was just like wow. Derrick Henry might actually help run them to the Super Bowl. And I think they're good. I just don't think their their top six good. The facts. It's the general sport. Brief show here with you on CBS Sports Radio 855 to 12 for CBS. I gave you my top six NFL teams right now. I'm asking you for your favorite team. Who do you think is going to win the Super Bowl? We're going to take more of your calls. When.

"Of a 2000 yards season. And I think that's important because I don't think he's going to run for 2000 yards again this year. But if Derrick Henry can follow up last year with let's say 1800 yards playing in 16 games because one of the things that I do think is going to come to the NFL this year is that sort of load management. Where if you would normally give Derrick Henry 20 carries a game over 16 game season, you'll find a way to maybe carve out some of those carries. To make you a little easier on him or in case you need him in 1/17 game. You're not just running the guy into the ground. So I do think that for some teams there, there will be some load management going on. But if Derrick Henry can follow up last year and run for 17, or 1800 yards And go get your 15 touchdowns again. That would be the third season in a row that that guy has stacked up great stats would have been a major contributor to a football team that has taken a step forward. And it is becoming a real contender in the A. F. C. And I know that we love to give it to quarterbacks and make it flashy. And, you know, I'm sure Aaron Rodgers lend up with another near 50 touchdown season and, you know, have a handful of interceptions. Tom Brady is going to have another fantastic year. I'm sure Maybe a lot of people that will clearly be dazzled by Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. But at some point, I do think, especially with running backs. The totality of putting together a couple of seasons. Yeah, I think that's going to play a factor into people's M v p voting. It would be one of those deals where you maybe you look for a different metric, where maybe the the the total amount of yards or the total amount of rushing yards. Aren't there isn't the same as it was last year for a guy like Derrick Henry, but of the yards per carry goes up. If the tough yards you can get some third downs, you know, I'm saying there's there are other numbers. You look at to make case for the guy. I think he's fantastic. I think Derrick Henry is. Unfortunately he's getting lost in a sea of wide receiver and a a an NFL that has Very much gone passing game oriented. We're forgetting about a guy that normally are running back with 2000 yards are almost automatically when the M V P And now it's just kind of gets lost in the world of the Nerd Numbers Network. And that's unfortunate It really is. 855 to 1 to four CBS 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. So Which NFL team finishes winning the Super Bowl, who finishes the best Who finishes the worst and gets that number one pick. And then who is your NFL M V p this year? We got all that for you. I want to see these lines jumping 855 to 1 to four CBS kind of loaded Right now..

Patrick mahomes takes the top spot followed by aaron donald aaron rodgers derrick henry travis kelsey to round out the top five josh allen moved up seventy seven spots from last season to land at number ten. Okay you probably have noticed. There was one name. I did not mentioned in the top five because tom brady actually came in at number seven on the lip. Maxine brady have been tire. Yep yep the cliff is saying brady should add tire. I understand if you wanna stick. Aaron donald in there because arrand. Donald is a better defensive. Tackle than brady is a quarterback at this moment. However defensive tackles are so much less important than quarterbacks. It is impossible not to take that into consideration brady but if you wanna put donald ahead of get it. Ready should be third. Maybe fourth on this list.

Every day. You're gonna bring that up every day. He literally has everything to do with that. No. What did you do to you? Well, Darryl Bevel was the one who called the one yard away Slam pass instead of handing it off to Marshawn Lynch. For the record, I'm and I'm still fine with that. Producer Brandon so much. Maybe in the history of first picks because Trevor Lawrence's pro days tomorrow. Well, what are you doing when the weather we're going to do Trevor Lawrence, aren't you? Aren't you just the number one out there and do a hair flip right? Hello? Yeah, Hair flip. What? What's up? Jacksonville? Yeah, I'm ready. Hey, you do you have a bet with our Florida man, Kyle about winds on that. Did you guys actually seal the deal on that? Because what you would say, what do we say? Jacksonville first season. X over under figure was nine. I think six. No, I wouldn't do. I wouldn't have it. 60 the some talent here. I'll find it for you. But yes, I am betting if anybody wants additional action with me. Have a bet that I think Jacksonville will win under a certain amount of thunder I would go under. I think with whatever six. You say six eggs is the line. Yeah, that's that's what I live my life on it to me in Florida man, Kyle, Um As the nine wins housekeeping. Okay, Hang on. Hang on. No, I'm just he says I'll take the under on nine losses. So I guess he wins If they get to eight, Nate. Yeah, So, uh, After e need them to go seven. Tonight. They will Yeah. Um, I'm really not impressed. I'm not hating on the fact you know, didn't choose Texas. That's just a weird. All right, Let's try the NFL. Here's my squad, right. He's putting together this car, You know, college instead of coaches. Look, I'm very confident that Trevor Lawrence is going to be a good NFL quarterback. But even as a route to gate on that team, right as a rookie, that's you know, gonna be difficult, um, that I never want to give respect to the A. F C South. Just because of my natural Houston Texans hate arrayed, but that's a tough division. I mean, they're gonna They're gonna play the Colts playoff team twice. I gotta play the Titans playoff team twice. They gotta play the Okay, So you get to play the Texans twice as well. But yeah, I like my side there. I like my side man. Speaking of schedules and things, the University of Texas of football schedule is out today. Yes, hokum horns. We added way not get you on the record here, Vito. Are you trying to skate on this bet? And I both said nine and three in three Think the Longhorns go nine and three notable contest. They opened September 4th versus Louisiana Home Game a tougher game, probably then, when it was added to the schedule. Louisiana's pretty good this year. They're big nonconference game is the following week. September 11th at Arkansas Red River rivalry is October 9th versus Oklahoma. The Cotton Bowl November 6. They go at Iowa State. That might be the toughest on the schedule playing in Ames, Iowa. There, so are you. Are you forcing me to be on the record, right? Yes, yes. At 5 52 on Thursday frozen tundra. Snow again. I don't know if burnt orange Kool Aid Beato. If Homer Beato is capable of saying anything other than 12, you know See, I told you this is going to be the most middle of the road that I will be for the next 201 days. I think. Where is that? How long it is? Yeah. I think we're around about to break the 200 customers. All right? Not too good at math. Get him out of here. 10 into 10 and two So 12 champs where they lose me. What did they lose? I mean, we have to be Oklahoma, Oklahoma in Iowa State CI. Now I'm hating myself because it's just like it's also going to be tough to if you you want to go pick them to be tended to and then make the big 12 championship. You would presume? I mean, if the losses air to Oklahoma and Iowa State, it seems like they would be the top two teams, but I'm listening. Listen, anything I've been to that Iowa State game, Okay? That stadium is just set up in such a weird way with wind gusts. It's crazy the way that the sun goes down. I don't know what time kicks there. Jack, try step. I'm worried about that. And Yeah, of course, Oklahoma. Okay s so there you have me at the two that I would be most feared about, But then I can.

"Ran for over 400 yards last week. Tennessee's the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year. That defense is not what that defense was last year, particularly up front. It's a challenge, and I think the game will really be decided by You know the big man Derrick Henry and how much of an impact he has on the game. I think he sets their entire offense up. He sets up the bombs and their play action pass game when they're 67 and protection and the quarterbacks protected and you've got One on one outside because you've got 89 in the box and you're trying to stop Derrick Henry. I think it comes down to that. How long with me here one more quickly for you if I can. I'm fascinated by what will happen. With Cleveland having to play this game without their head coach Kevin Stefanski, who is going to get a lot of votes for coach of the year. He's there, play caller. What impact do you think that has on their quarterback and their chances of winning? You know, it's an interesting question. I'm you know, I think having someone like a guy who missed the game last week, Bill Callahan, who has had has head coaching experience, he's there run game coordinator. Offensive line coach. I think that's a big part of what they do there. Another team that you know their success is predicated on their two running backs and being successful in Baker not making mistakes and being poised, and I think Baker's kind of had a what you would consider to be a really solid year for them, and Cleveland. You know that fan base, you know, coming down the week 17 and you know it, you know, then four wide receivers five wide receivers. Two weeks ago. Out out of the game. You know how much more can that fan base take? I think they're on the right on the edge. I think salt to the way the n v p Now others they're gonna make arguments for moms who didn't even play today. They only lost one game. That is pretty damn impressive. But if you ask me, Aaron Rodgers is the M V P Derrick Henry went over 2000 yards today. How do you stay? Tennessee ended up winning their division. With a late play, but they want on a field going of 50 plus yard path. Derrick Henry kept him in the game all day and made you play up to you flight but the very last possession in which Tennessee got its Ah divisional championship. Didn't have anything to do with the running back. That's the way the game of football is played a lot of time and certainly and these days I like Derrick Henry a lot loved out my my football team gets He's not going to get a vote for M v. P. For me. My boat would certainly go to Aaron Rodgers. That was a better game to show the Jaguars and the cult's We didn't know the Colts actually could. I guess he couldn't play the Colts. Has a game today because they could have gotten squeezed out. They could have won and not made the playoffs. And that was not the case with wife and football team so, but it was a entertaining game. I'm sure that part of NBC's line of thinking was the Jaguars have not to play for and they're not even going to put up. Resistance will they did the cult had to score in the fourth quarter to get up by two touchdowns. It was a one touchdown game until pretty late in that game. There were a whole bunch of games that you could choose. Here's one that I was leaning toward on Sunday, but I'm glad that NBC wouldn't listen to me. They didn't have to make the call immediately, so they were able to find out. That the Rams we're going to be without their starting quarterback Jared Goff was gonna be out. It ended up that Kyla Murray started the game for the Cardinals. He had some point decided the pain was too much to play in. He pulled himself out of the game they put in their backup quarterback Chris Traveler who I got to tell you. I'm not a huge Chris trouble of fan, former South Dakota product. Turned CFL er turned NFL. Er Yes, He was not very good today, and he cost the Cardinals game. They put Kyla Murray back into the game after the second half. Whether he got a shot to be able to withstand the pain that he was playing in. I don't know for sure, but they eventually pulled him back out of the game because he wasn't capable of playing. That was the game that was on paper that I thought was the best match up, but I thought actually should have been the game that they selected. They did not. They decided to go with watching the football team. Um, it may turn out to be a good game. If you're a giant fan, I guess it's added interest for you. And I give you, uh, Best of luck. If you think it is that important, Feel free to Ah, Check in with me and say, Hey, you know, the Giants can play with Tom Brady next week. You know they can't Did you see Camp again today? I'll give Brady this much. I was critical of the goat Tom Brady earlier this year, not so much because of his play, and there were a couple of games. That was a juncture during the season when Tom Brady was playing a lot like to a tongue Babalola. That? Yes, he was moving the football and yes, he was completing a good percent of his passes, but he wasn't throwing the football down the field at all. Guess that that critique got back to him, and I wasn't the only one. I'm not trying to put myself at a kind of a pedestal that I was called Brady out for this and nobody else was. Others were, too. They were pointing out that Tom was running a pretty good dink and dunk offense for the Bucks. Well, the last month he's been throwing the ball downfield. And the guided he's been thrown it to Antonio Brown was the guy that I was critical about. I didn't think any team in the National Football League should have signed him because I think the guy has Mental issues, and I thought that if they got a week out of him before it got blown up the same way that it was in New England. That was the way that was gonna play out. He's been an acceptable behavior guy down in Tampa. As far as I know, he hasn't rocked the boat at all. In the last couple of weeks. He's become Brady's top target. Now. The first week he came in. Brady threw the ball to him a bunch and I figured that was the case because it was pretty well known that he was the reason a Tampa had signed them because Tom Brady wanted Antonio Brown. They had the one good game in New England. They'd be developed a report and become at least quads. I friends Associates at least and Brady said. Yes, I want this guy. Let's get this guy in your Sinus guy, and they did eventually do that. And I knew Brady was going to try and prove that he was on point by asking for Antonio Brown to be signed. So he got on the football. Well, the last couple of weeks after it already been terminated. Antonio Brown wasn't going anywhere. And if he hadn't caused any troubles, and those like Cody McDonald, who thought that it was mistake to sign him had to eat some crow all he went back to Tom on the football and he was huge today. Brown at a mega game. Couple of touchdown passes over 100 yards receiving caught everything that was thrown his way and did so down the field. I got news for either the Washington football team and where the Giants who ever get to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week. Tom Brady is coming loaded for bear. The Bucks are playing good football as they head into the playoffs. Now they have to do it all on the road. They ended up as the 15 in the NFC, which means they've got to go on the road throughout. But Tom Brady has done some amazing things in the postseason. And I think the first amazing thing he'll do will be to take care of whoever comes out as the winner of the NFC least. The 80 into the Washington football team or the giant tip. A sneak in the backdoor. Mr Brady will be waiting for them. I could take a quick time out here and then get the poems up. We got one guest is until our number to one of the teams were already touched on the Arizona Cardinals. Two teams today knew all I had to do is win and they were in They couldn't get the job done. One was the Miami Dolphins, who I will cut a little slack because they were playing the Buffalo Bills who are looking like a team that can actually win the Super Bowl. They went with their started for the first half Josh Alan to a bunch of touchdown passes, But then they actually pulled some of their starters. And they pulled away even more against Miami. So I'll say more kudos to the bills that knocking Miami, But the game was there to be won in the bill that the Dolphins couldn't do it so where they got shut out of a playoff appearance, as did the Arizona Cardinals. Play against the backup quarterback now they themselves had to play with a backup quarterback, but they did nothing offensively on gave up a couple of defense, of course, because there happens was so bad. Yeah, Shame on the Dolphins and the Cardinals, who had the win and get in neither. "Henry for the season one. He's averaging 105. Okay, so he's doing pretty well week to week, But more importantly, they're playing Houston this week and when they played earlier in the season Derrick Henry 212 yards, so He could do this yet and previous game against Houston. I think last year we ran for over 200, so this is possible. I mean, we could see Derrick Henry hit 2000 yards this season, which hasn't been done since Adrian Peterson. So that's a big deal. It also puts him in company with Chris Johnson. C J to K Now the Titans running back, but Looking at Derrick Henry. It's so fascinating, right? Because think about this we talk about now, and he is a clearly understood by everybody. Bonified superstar. Two years ago. That wasn't the case. You remember Derrick Henry two years ago because he was a guy that getting done a whole lot. I mean, his first season he had maybe 500 yards. Second season. He didn't do much until basically the back half of the year. I mean, it took Derrick Henry maybe until the last four games of the season. Before he actually became the Derrick Henry that we know today, and it's a testament to the coaching staff of the Titans and using him properly, and it's also kind of shocking because My goodness, Mike malarkey. What were you doing? What was he doing like It's crazy to think that there were ties that Mike Malarkey wasn't able to get the talent out of Derrick Henry. We're talking about a Straight forward, run you over running back, and it took him a couple of years to figure it out. But now that he's figured it out, he's rolling and he's unstoppable. And that's why when I mentioned before the idea that Derrick Henry is exceptional, I really mean that. I mean, he is a guy that is the focal point of an offense. He doesn't catch passes for running back. That's pretty rare, like look at all the Kamara and and what he is for the Saints and how great of a receiver he is. Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin cook and catch a good number of passes. But Derrick Henry doesn't really do that. Yet. He's still a guy that you can believe is the center of an offense that can win playoff games and has one playoff games. So he's just a he's amazing player. I mean, you really got to step back and appreciate what he is. He's very unique in today's NFL, So I'm rooting for him but a 55212. 4 to 27. That's how you do on the show. I'm Vince Quinn. This is the Vince Quinn show and we have a mailbox now, so I had to wait it out The address. It looks like the Orange Bull's gonna ignite some.

"derrick henry" Discussed on WFAN Sports Radio_FM
"You were still learning the game and they end up getting the playoffs because of him last year? Yes, we all know about their 14 into run. But too many people keep forgetting that And that's heightens game. Um, it was the Ravens defense first, Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson actually put up good numbers is the first interception he had Off of Mark injuries, hands just like you know, maybe maybe it was too high, but that entire game was centered around. All right, Derek Henry's is running it down their throats. And then Ryan Tannehill became a deep pastor out of nowhere with the play action. What she started to do more, but I just don't get why, you know, people keep forgetting. Oh, Lamar Jackson can't do this in the playoffs Well, The thing I like, is Arabian Sand. Now is the fact that he hears all this and just you actually go out there even harder. And I just want to get your thoughts on that because I know that guy called in And he was talking specifically about you know his type of game. Is how how. How is the was another student for the playoffs, But it's okay for the regular season. Understand there, there down the hill, you dumb like running down the hill. Like you know your boxing reference, but I just want to get your thoughts on kind of like, you know, looking at that and the broader like perspective like it's not always on him. There is a defense on the other side, too. In that game. The most recent playoff game didn't have his back. I appreciate the phone call. I'm with you. I do think that a lot has been made sort of a Baltimore struggles. Now the first Game, his first playoff start against the Chargers. That's is what, like ninth start of his season. If I remembering correctly, he just didn't play well in that game now last year, and maybe this is making excuses for him. I think that Tennessee was sort of the wrong team to play at that time with how Derrick Henry was running the football really effectively where Henry had one of the best eight games stretches we've seen in the NFL. From a running back standpoint. I also thought that The injury to Mark Ingram. I thought hurt Baltimore as much as anything that that 12 punch with Amar Mark Ingram running the football was so effective and not having Ingram just really changed what they wanted to do. From an offensive standpoint, I think some of it is when he gets to the playoff is I don't care what era of football that we're in. Winning in the playoffs is always going to come down to your ability to convert on third and five or more. And mostly your ability to do that throwing the football. At some point you have to convert and that scenario and that's how you converted drive from three points to six point. That's how you take a drive in which you're probably not going to score and turn that into a drive in which you can get points. Do you have the ability on third and five form or to throw your way into it and convert and to be honest, Lamar Jackson, this hasn't shown that ability to consistently In the NFL. Let's go back to the phone lines. Todd in Cleveland once talk about Chicago. Go ahead, Todd. You got like a minute, you'll character. I do not claim to be an authority or football, but the Bears and on the other team, I pay attention to other in the brown. Based on what I've seen..

Week 10 fantasy football rankings: Running Backs
"I running backs schedule running backs derrick henry. It's actually pretty terrible for the next. three weeks. colts ravens colts. They are top for against fantasy running backs. Then it is unbelievable. And this is the time of year. We're derrick henry gets going anyway His last three his fantasy playoffs are jacksonville. Detroit and green bay. So i i'm recommending. My dalvin cook sell high. And we're going to wait until this primetime game against the colts and hope derrick henry struggles a little bit. And then we're going to sell dalvin cook for derrick henry and very good wide receiver. Okay i because he's going to destroy jacksonville detroit and green bay and the fantasy playoffs. Jonathan taylor is. I have a tough time. Buy into this. But has four matchups against teams. That are twenty nine. Th or worse against running backs this week against tennessee. I don't think it's that great of a match up. They've been really good. The last five games against running backs these per carry giving up some points. But they're giving up touchdown they are giving up touchdown touchdown every game tennessee this year. But you know he's got houston he's got vegas. He's got houston again in week. Sixteen might be tough against pittsburgh but the match ups are great. Does it matter. I don't know what jonathan taylor. We'll see what his role is he's got to just he's got to start playing freely and i think that's what the colts are waiting for. I think the colts are going to give him every opportunity to to get there but he. He's splitting the russian downs. Work with jordan wilkins in the hemans. The hurry up back the passing downs back. David montgomery talked about best remaining schedule. And then two teams. That probably doesn't matter but the foul. I guess i shouldn't say that all that. You guys determine that via broncos and the patriots like damian harris is is locked in. He could be pretty good down the stretch but obviously we don't know if that's going to be the case but yeah patriots and broncos have good schedules now. You go running backs with bad schedules. This one i think is very very important. Kenyan drake. I don't know if anybody is really into kenyan drake but terrific low. You think so yes. Because he's got some very good run. Defenses coming up very good. Maybe he's not such a good bye. I hate the schedule. Buffalo's not good. That's this week. if he's back. Seattle is a good run defense. Their twelve against running backs new england's of matchup. But then after that. So we're talking. That's week ten eleven weeks thirteen and on the rams the giants the eagles the forty niners. That's weeks fourteen. Thirteen fourteen fifteen sixteen. Those are four really good run defenses. And that's kenyan drake who only runs and doesn't have any involvement in the passing game so the whole point is to trade firm at the lowest possible price and it's because chase edmonds isn't gonna take his job when he comes back at it sir feels like he'll still have that role that rundown role maybe drake as the guy to go target. If you're desperate for a running back in the next three games not so much for the rest of the season you think this week. He might not even play this week. That's the problem is today. It feels like those games that you're referencing in the playoffs. Are more chase edmonds games than kenyan drake games like. Drake could play all four of those games against her. Three of those games against a good wendy fences and for edmonds might just be better. I think it's four good run. Event is the rams giants eagles niners and the giants thing. They're just about like fourteenth about as close to average as you can be but that's because they're really bad against pass catching running backs. They're not fourteenth in run. Vincent fourteenth and fantasy points allowed to running backs so that does feel more like a chase edmonds game like you. Just look at antonio gives they give us some touchdowns. Mckissic was a lot better than gibson. Even though gives another touchdown i dunno. I dunno school. Fantasy points because of the touchdown. But that's my point like these are good run defenses. So for a guy who's not involved in the passing game at all too scary schedule. I think down the stretch for kenyan drake.

Bo Jackson believes he'd average 350-400 yards per game in today's NFL
"This next topic quickly by prefacing it. With falling statement. Oh, Jackson. Is the most impressive athlete I have ever seen. Period. Oh, Jackson, the most impressive athlete I've ever seen. In my lifetime, and it's not just that he played professional baseball and pro football and did so at the same time. There's been a few other guys who have done that. But they didn't come anywhere near Anywhere close to his holy crap moments in both sports did Bo produced. I'm talking about a guy was an all star in both sports, Not just a guy that played both sports at the same time, But a guy who was an all star in both sports a guy who not only could have been a whole family in one I'd argue he could be a whole family in both. I mean in either, but in both, Yeah, I said it like if he doesn't get hurt, and Bo want to spend his entire career playing both sports he probably could have, and he probably could have ended up with two bus. The guy was that explosive. He was that much of a freak show. Like if you're the right age, and I say Bo Jackson's name you might think of that frozen rope that he threw to gun down Harold Reynolds at the plate Or maybe that home run in the All Star game or the home run. He hit with one hand on the back. Or that wall run. Or maybe you Michael football and think about him humiliating Brian Bosworth and the Seahawks on Monday night. The guy was an unbelievable talent. Ah, fear ist running back and his career ended way too soon. I mean, you want to talk about a two sports door? This guy was so talented Once when he came on this program, he did an interview. Any ate a salad at the exact same time. So it is great to have you back on. How are you doing? I'm sitting. I'm sitting making phone calls after emails. Trying to eat up Caesar salad with grilled calamari at my favorite Italian restaurant. It's a good life, but it's a good life and you've earned it. So where are you right now? What city actually roll in Chicago on Like I said, I've been out running errands and just working. Actually, I'm working harder now than I did both sports. It's against you an interview with me, and he's eating a calamari salad. On answering email, too. So again, Let me say this very loudly, very proudly and very clearly, both. Jackson is the most impressive athlete I've ever seen. Having said that? Po was on the 21st and prime podcast. Check out would bow had to say about Bo. Nobody no more with me being a ball carrier. My coat's caught us number one, he said. I know you can run. But I will teach you How to carry that football, He said. That football is like your newborn baby. Don't put it on the ground and keep it away from the alright so nothing too crazy there A former players saying the guys today don't want to tackle But they don't attack the right way. I mean, nothing really crazy about that. Not really surprising. It's kinda what former players do write in pretty much every single sport. They say that was way better back when they played. But then Bo takes it a step further like this. Then I want to take me. I don't know about the hit Iraq, wrapping everybody's running into each other and trying to use a shoulder pants but not the ball carrier down. All right. Cool. Once again. I'm fine with this. Maybe wrapping up really is a lost art. Maybe guys are too focused on trying to hit guys with their shoulders and knock him down instead of actually tackling them. Maybe they're not focused on proper technique and fundamentals. I see you, Bo. Like if you start to think about it, and you watch Derrick Henry run and you watch what Derrick Henry is doing right now. You might start to imagine, man. If Derrick Henry could do that today. What would Bo Jackson be able to Dio if he played in today's game? What kind of damage could Bo do on a weekly basis? Funny you should ask because Bo himself has been thinking about that very thing. And while you were doing the Alfredo Bo did the math. If I play doing this here man is free because nobody wraps up anymore. They run into each other with the path notice. Bo's the only one not laughing when he made that statement. Bo just said he would be averaging 3 52 400 yards per game in the NFL. But I could see that in Tech Mobile, the only thing more impressive than real life. Bo Jackson was techno bowl. Bo Jackson. Techno Bobo was going for 3 52 400 per game every single time out. Hell, he was doing that in the first half. But in real life in the NFL 3 52 400 yards per game in today's game. Listen, there are two dudes that I do not mess with ever Mike Tyson and Bo Jackson. Still

Tennessee Titans stop in-person team activities amid 'several' positive COVID-19 tests
"This comes from shefty via the titans. For, those who have not seen this yet. After this is a statement from the Tennessee titans after multiple positive cova tests within their organization. The team is halting person work today and made this announcement out of an abundance of caution the organization has decided to work remotely today is we follow NFL protocols related to the COVID nineteen virus. Several tests have come back positive and are working through the process of confirming them. We'll have more information tomorrow. I don't know there's much to do with this right now. Just maybe turned to find you and just sort of refresh people on if we have any idea what the next steps would be here and what kind of flags is might raise for you. Well. This is the first of its kind in that we're in season with multiple tests reported and I haven't seen the exact tweet. So I don't know if it's players personnel, maybe they're just leaving generic for now but the standard practice then would be to follow up to confirm the but in the meantime to isolate. So the main thing they wanna do and they have said this from before the season started to mitigate risk is to stop spread. So anyone who tested positive assuming it was before they got to the facility would not have been allowed in if they were there, they would then be isolated and sent home in monitored with. Subsequent follow up. So for now, we we stay in and watch, but this is the first time we're having something like this. Obviously, in the regular season I'll pass along that does sound like the vikings out of an abundance of caution themselves will suspend in person activities today they of course, play the titans this past week, but the positives have been registered from the Titans Organization not just just passing this all along. We have a lot to unpack your and it probably will take us a couple of days to know what the actual fallout is of this I don't WanNa get too far into hey, you know start replacing Derrick Henry your lineup this weekend. As Diana receiving noted, there has been no decision yet on whether the titans game with the steelers this Sunday would be impacted by this chalk this up to US getting information lifetime and owning up to the fact that we need a little bit more time to understand the exact. Well, hopefully, we will have more information on this even if we even if the information is what the possibilities are a lot of range of outcomes here, but I will say just because. This is the last time we're GONNA get to talk to people of field before waivers runs tonight in most most leagues, and so I would say that this is a news story that is worth watching because if there's a chance I'm not even saying it will. But if there is a chance that the titans game on Sunday could be postponed as a result of this I do think listen em I am I trying to find a Derrick Henry Replacement Carlos High Internet But I'm just saying like I would be looking at my waiver wire and thinking to myself like if I don't have titan available to me this. Sunday. What am I going to do

NFL rumors: Players that test positive for coronavirus will be out (at least) 3 weeks
"Today there was a report that the NFL and NFL PA agreed that there will be kind of separate I are list. Four players who get the krona virus? It'll be three weeks. They will be fully paid, but that is. That is one small detail and the bigger news the bigger. Global Picture is that we are technically only two days away as we tape this from a couple of teams including the Texans, rookies are supposed to show up for training camp. The NFL owners have a big call on Friday in which I expect, there will be news about certainly those rookies, not showing up and you know very possibly training camp getting pushed back, but I think. The the biggest takeaway is here. There's they're pretty far away feels like an even coming to terms with how this will look at the same time that you know five six seven NFL. Teams are in some of the worst places that you could possibly be. In the entire country.

The Running Back's Struggle
"Josh last time we had ESPN. It was to talk about fullbacks today. We're talking about running backs in our way through the backfield man just like Aaron Donald Josh firms. Meyer writes about football for five thirty eight Josh late last week. The Rams announced in a shocking move that they were releasing running back. Todd Gurley. This was a remarkable turn of events Given that girlie one offensive player of the year in twenty seven teen thoroughly. He was discussed by some people as an MVP candidate in two thousand eighteen on route to the Super Bowl led the league in rushing touchdowns that year. The ten the five untouched. To the end zone touchdown todd Gurley and on top of that. He's only twenty five years old. What happened my goodness twenty five year? Old running backs are already aging out. The first thing that happened to him was he has arthritic me. So at the end of the two thousand eighteen season he had to be replaced and spelled by Anderson Mentally played a little bit in the Super Bowl but he was just entirely ineffective. Fortunately that ineffectiveness carried over into the twenty nine thousand nine season and inbetween. He was given an extension that made him one of the highest. Pay running backs in the league. So this season couple that knee with his expense the caps situation in a loss Angeles and he just became a casualty and I think he is kind of an exemplar for everything. That's going on with running backs in the NFL. It's this idea of short and careers injury proneness and loss of effectiveness and therefore being cut or getting lower pay on the day that he was released. Espn stats and Info. Put out an number that I found fascinating in two thousand fifteen year. That Gurley was drafted. Twenty two backs were drafted. Not a single one of them. Josh is still on the team that selected them. What do you make of that goes to this idea of running backs? Having really short shelf life season for running back usually occur in one of their first two seasons at least in terms of productivity in terms of touches. You wear them down so quickly in this league. Though it's one of the toughest position on on the body and so I think the League as we've seen so far this year they still are kind of have a predilection overpay for the very good running backs are the ones that just had a good season but on by and large I think across the league. You're seeing people being really risk averse and moving on from running backs after a couple of seasons. When did you notice that that some teams not all and we'll get to some teams that have continued to pay running backs winded some teams for start to realize that they had been overvaluing the position and wanted to invest elsewhere. It's hard to trace it back specifically to a particular team but I know that People in twitter sphere and analytics the NFL analytics of talked about the replace ability of the running back position for quite a few years. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the first on board to kind of spend money at the position but spread that money out over multiple players to kind of make the injury risks inherent in the position kind of spread across multiple sets of legs. The Baltimore Ravens are also one of the ones that the forefront of really just paying the absolute minimum that they have to at that position and actually getting pretty good production out of you mentioned that the analytics community was sort of early on this trend. What did they find? What did the data tell us about running backs really two things? Were most important about running the football. The results of run plays are primarily determined by run walking and defenders in the box. The defense and not who's carrying the ball because of that the finding is the inferences. They're running backs are interchangeable and investing a lot of resources whether it's the draft or whether it's free agency just doesn't make a lot of sense is also can be pinned on the changing nature of football itself. By and large. The data tells us that passing more passing. Early is more efficient right absolutely absolutely. I mean it's not even close in terms of the average value of a planet passing versus running on early downs. Then you still have to get into this idea. Of How much does it matter to the mentality of the team? How much does it matter to keep the defense on their toes? How much do you have to do to keep them honest? And so there's no question about how much teams should passing as a percentage of plays but is probably a case. They should be passing more than now. So are there any situations in which running the football is more advantageous absolutely? I absolutely you need to be able to run well at the goal line on Short yardage. If you have a running quarterback like Baltimore had last season definitely scrambling in design runs for quarterback are extremely efficient. Jackson will keep it on the read option expense at the thirty Lamar Jackson. Ted Pa Touch Lavar captain with the spin. This print Emma score. We saw what happened with Baltimore last year. They say hadn't run into that. Tennessee buds buzzsaw in the playoffs. They probably would have made it to the superbowl in my opinion. So there's definitely something to be said for the analytics and say stop running entirely and if you are going to do it do it with deception. Right off of play action. Get the other team guessing. About what your actual formation means and so they lose half a step in responding to what you're doing those are the kind of the things analytics pushes for not not whether or not you should be one hundred percent run or a hundred percent. You mentioned that Tennessee buzzsaw that beat the Baltimore. Ravens upset them. I think a lot of people point to that team to Derrick Henry and say see having a unique generational running back does matter. Look they upset. You Know New England in Baltimore. What would you say to that? I mean he got a twelve point. Five million franchise tag out of that performance. The back end of that year so I understand their point. They're looking at what just happened. They're looking at how he's being rewarded. No saying obviously matters but they beat another rushing team it the problem that I think the face the Ravens and we saw it with Kansas City. And how they didn't share. This same problem was that if you're built around the run whether it's by the quarterback or running it up the middle an wide zone like ravens did last season if you fall behind against a team that is also a ground and pound team in trying to control the clock and control the pace and you put yourself in a position where you have to come back. And you're not used to doing it or you don't have a quarterback quarterback that perhaps his is known for that type of play. You get what happened in in in Baltimore that night Jackson under pressure always lose ball stemming interception Jedi for the titans come up with another turnover hennessy. Titans are shocking the ravens whereas with the city chiefs they fell behind early three straight times but ended up winning the Super Bowl because they have a pass attack higher variants. You could make up ground easier with the passing game that you can with the run. When everything's working great rushing is the first thing you should try. And if you're good at it you should do it as long as you can but when it fails it fails pretty spectacularly and you need to be able to pass and in fact at the NFL level we ever parody is so prevalent that you really should just start out passing at that point because everyone's trying to run and everyone's trying to stop the run so the chiefs are sort of the analytics darling in this scenario because you know they passed their way to the Super Bowl. Josh they also have Patrick Mahomes right. So if you're a team with an average quarterback do you still think it's better to take a pass first approach in every NFL GAME? Even with a mediocre quarterback we find that they are better and teams are better and more efficient passing the ball and in sometimes. It's even more apparent when you have kind of an average or slightly above average quarterback because the defense and the defensive coordinator is almost sure you're going to not rely on them right. They're gonNA say well he's kind of crap you know. They're probably going to run out us all day long. And try and be safe with the ball so to the extent that you can put a mediocre quarterback in good positions like. Perhaps Tennessee did last year. Then you can take quarterback that had been floundering for years like Ryan Tannehill in. Turn him in to one of the best quarterbacks in the league the number one running back by the end of the season a guy that some people thought could have been the super bowl. Mvp was undrafted Damian Williams who is set to make just over a couple million dollars next year. How much does finance or the market factor in to know what we think about running backs today? I think you know if you're a casual fan. And you see everyone else. Basically on the team. Except for the punter and kicker getting more than on average than these running backs. I think it's beginning to percolate that. They're probably not the most important piece on the offense anymore. Things about analytics. Is that unlike baseball? Where like things got more boring? When analytics became involved when analytics can evolved in Football. Become more exciting. We want more passing. We want to go for it on fourth down. We want to know more so I one of the good things about all of this is that you see more aggressive more exciting football when it's played in the way that evidence seems to suggest it should

NFL 2020 Free Agency Predictions
"This is my favorite time of year I like to refer to it as camper time in the NFL as free agencies get ready to start here in a little less than a month and that this kind of stuff happens at the combine doesn't it a little bit yeah and and first of all one nice thing about the profession that I have is you know I can't say Hey I'm busy and then like you can turn on the TV and I got a phone line or not this is nice you got to tune in to get out he actually it's but anyway you know this year just because of the way the schedule is two weeks between when free agency begins in and won the combine is you may actually see less tampering than than ever before just because there's there's a camper window and there's a lot of time to to get things done I mean there's there's definitely a possibility that teams leave here without really having a great sense with the free agent market is and without really having a great sense of where guys are going and then it should be two weeks of scrounging around and ensure trying to get the info and you know some of the other stuff that we live in our jobs in I've been intrigued by this NFL collective bargaining agreement that's been going on between the players and the owners one of the things that I'm really intrigued in is the movement from Tuesday to Thursday for a franchise in transitional tags yeah I did that happen mainly they're just not gonna be enough time I mean there is a possibility tomorrow that there's a new CBA there's also a possibility that there's no new CBA and teams are going to have the ability to franchise and transition players and that landscape changes dramatically I mean you have teams like you know the Tennessee Titans which could lose one of their top players in you know either Ryan Tannehill R. Derrick Henry you have the cowboys who could franchise or transition you know teams can use both if there's no new CDA if there is an issue BA they can only use one that's dramatic so I think they they just wanted to give teams time to really find out their options figure out what they're going to do if we get any CPA which is no guarantee we get sold sold your timing on this is within the next twenty four hours or so because it's possible yeah so so that's it that's it that's interesting because when you look at all the deals that are out there you would think that the owners will go ahead and secure the gods they want right now rather than wait to find out what's going to happen the collective bargaining agreement yeah but the problem is you have agents who know that the salary cap might go up I mean it's not going to be a lot but it also goes up five million dollars if you're dak Prescott don't you go or you know whoever Amari Cooper whoever that is a little more that like if you're planning on making a guy salary act and the salary cap goes up to five and five you know five million dollars a year then the player should be given more right so I think what you're seeing now is everyone's in a little bit of a standstill because no one knows what the actual landscape it is and it's not a place where in a lot because in the NFL everyone planned so meticulously but because of the CBA landscape that's exactly what's happening right now I even if you were a fly on the wall during our show on Friday we had a ton of discussions about this this new collective bargaining agreement that is going to be voted on by the the full arsenal of players and and big al was the the team representative for the NFL PA for eight of his nine years in the league it is very much bothered by the fact that the the team representatives were nods able to vote first before they went to the full legal why did they skip that part of the process we which part of the process because well what what we put out their own nothing Friday is that they're going to the plaza sociais Asian is going to bypass the the player reps and go right to the players and now we found out that it's going to be a simple majority from the player's association player reps and then they'll decide whether or not they take it over to the players it's just it feels like that it's been shut down to players the approach right now yeah I need it don't delay it's going to be now is there's so we we've seen the executive committee which actually negotiated the deal that both against it right and I'm kind of way in which crazy balancing them kind of way and and then the only change now is they're going to do a vote of the NFL P. A. player wraps but they don't need a two thirds vote now they only need a simple majority to pass it on to the entire group of players that's been a small ship but it might actually you know actually get a deal done yeah the two thirds of the player reps no recommended then they make their official recommendation to the players to ratify it that's really the only difference so it is actually going to the rap's first before the entire body of players take in do you think that there was a chance that what the executive committee voted on and discussed during their meeting with the NFL owners and that's a that's a board of eleven players so there's no ties is always a tie breaker okay voted against it do you think that that seventeen game was added at the last moment in the twelfth hour all now that's what's interesting in every single negotiation not the executive committee has had with the NFL owners has included a seventeen game every single one every single every single offer back and forth has been based around the seventeenth game that's what's that's what's just crazy about the executive committee coming out against it is they've known that every day getting a C. B. A. don was predicated under adding a game and of course getting a lot more money for the players what they want there was some information out there that was released I think over the weekend that the seventeenth game is gonna be played for two hundred fifty thousand dollars cap yeah is there any truth to that it's kind of true so it you know I. as in everything else trying it really depends on how you look at so you know for most of the players you know eighty percent of the players they're gonna get properly compensated for adding a seventeen they'll get a a raise in their game check basically the get an additional game check for the players who make now for the players who make a significant amount more you know J. J. watt of the world for instance they will not get any more than twenty fifty thousand dollars for that seventeen game alone but obviously there's signing bonuses roster bonuses and all sorts of different ways to change salaries so it only applies to the game check so yes it's true but it affects an unbelievably few amount of players yeah it where there's a will there's a way to get these guys paid but you know we talked about it would you just kind of popped over that kind of speed bump over that because if you take away twenty percent of the top twenty percent of the NFL are we talking about the XFL now we're talking about the base of Reuters minimum guys rookies except you know kind of players
