"All right, Welcome back, and look, I I still have questions about this team going forward. I'm not entirely sure that I see a whole plethora of winds for this squad. But they are certainly in a rebuilding process and It all kind of started when they had to whittle their way down to this 53 man roster. Lots of questions about that. So nobody better to help us. Break it all down that our good friend Lomas Brown, the color commentator on the Detroit Lions Radio network joins us this evening. What's up low? I'm great. How you guys doing today? We're what is it? L t d living the dream. I think this woman living the dream. Uh um So I want to start. I want to start with what? We saw it with some Maybe some some things that weren't really shocking when it came down to two. Dan Campbell, Brad Holmes breaking down this thing and getting into the 53 man roster. Um, there were a couple of guys that I think we'll for sure. What a surprise. But maybe Based on what they paid and Breshad. Perriman was a guy who got $2 million in guaranteed money. We thought perhaps he would make the team but he just didn't perform in camp and the preseason and so they cut him and then in addition on the events of the side of the ball, Jelani TV did not make this team for a third year. I'm just curious to know specifically on those two guys, but maybe outside of them to what you thought about The lions getting down to the 53. Yeah. I mean, you know again, and we all know man. When you get a new coaching staff when you got a new regime that comes in, you know, it's really no lower T two players that have been here and they're really trying to find their players. They're trying to find guys that sit there scheme that's it, their system and and and really, I think another thing when you talk specifically about Bashar pyramids. If you think about the Chris I mean, you go from four preseason games three. So it puts more of an urgency on you having the show the cultures what you can do It put more of an urgency on you being able to display you know everything that you have, and I think, unfortunately with Rashard getting injured doing camp Not missing a lot of practice time and then not being able to flash when he had his opportunities. Well and pre season I think that hurt him and you look at Jelani to buy I mean again. A guy that was here on the mat Patricia and was really drafted for Their scheme. Um, you bring in Aaron Glenn a totally different defensive scheme. And Jelani just didn't fit. He just didn't fit. And you know when you again when you talking new coaches new staff, you have to make splash plays, you have to jump off at that new coaching staff. And I don't think Julani Omar brush our jumped off at the cultures and they made the decision to move on from those guys. So hopefully the guys that they are being able to replace them with These guys will be able to provide just what that coaching staff is looking for. Yeah, and you know, almost kind of and I didn't really think of it this way until you said it, But they're kind of on the other side of the coin where you've got somebody like Almond, Ross ST Brown or Derrick Barnes, both of those guys who are going to fill these positions. Um, they did enough in those three preseason games or they showed enough to where this coaching staff says Yes, we want him on this T. So while somebody like shot Pyramid or Jelani to buy doesn't have the time to show them what they what they can do for this team. You've got some other young guys waiting in the wings that did make the most of their opportunities in the preseason. Yeah, You're absolutely right. And I commend those guys. I mean, every time you get the opportunity, that's what you're supposed to do take full of full advantage of that opportunity. And you write. Those guys did that. And so there, you know those other guys on here and what you hope is that it is they're going to keep building on this. That a mas rice ain't Brown and Their barns and some of the other guys that they got. Hopefully, they'll be able to keep building upon some of the plays, um, that they were able to do during the preseason and become productive because we know that why would conceive a position? It's a wild card right now. We don't know who's going to step up. Who's going to be out Bell cow at the wide receiver position, and we just know on the defense society the ball at the linebacker position. I think out of the truly, you know other D line in the secondary. I think the linebacker position might be probably one of our biggest question Mark, So I just hope these guys are able to like I said to keep building upon what they did during town. Hey, look, You mentioned the coaching staff a number of times already so far, and you look at some of the NFL resumes that these guys have playing. Dan Campbell, Duce Staley, Anthony Lynn, Mark Brunell. I mean, you can go on and on Antwaan Randle El Aaron Glenn How much of an impact does that make? How much of an impact is that for the players on the team, and you think that will transcend Nick is huge. It's huge. It really is. Put it this way. It's so comforting as a player if you having a bad series doing the game When you are able to count to the sideline and you're able to talk to a coach that sat in that chair that's been in that situation that played the position you play is so conference thing to be able to totally that culture and ask him. Hey, what's going on? What am I doing wrong? What can I do? Write to make things better out there on the field? Because you know that these guys have been there done that. And these guys are going to give you the best answer or compare able to give you the best solution to that problem that you having out there on the field. So to me, I mean, any time you could go home, you have a coach that played this game that knows what you're going through. Um, that can kind of anticipate three minutes, stations three or you. I mean, as a player is such a confident feeling so again to me and like I said before, This is the best coaching staff that since I've been here since 1985 that I think the Detroit Lions have had because of the mixture of these guys that have played in the league Now these guys are leading this next generation of players. Well, let me let me expand on that a little bit low, because obviously Dan Campbell brings a totally I mean, almost 1 80 different mentality. Then then, uh, you know somebody like Matt Patricia had here. I mean, it's a totally different vibe. I mean, even press conferences are different. The information that he gives to the media is different. And I'm not saying that he's given away all the secrets of the sauce, but he he's at least letting people in a little bit. He's at least letting people into the room. Enough to where they can say. You know, I'm pulling for this guy because he gets it. He understands he understands the the the pain and agony that lions fans have gone through free 50 60 years he gets it. And so it makes it it makes from a fan perspective. It makes you want to root for this guy makes you want to root for this staff, because there's a lot of guys on here that that really are likeable in a really good coaches. So what is it specifically about this staff that makes it so appealing for the players? To want to go out there and really try to AMP it up. Well, I mean, and that was a great observation. Chris and I think the thing like you said he's doing it for the fans. But he's also doing it for the players to. It's an open book for the players. The players know where they stand at. The players know what's going on when they listened to Dan and I'm quite sure what he says to the media. A lot of this He says to the players before, he says to the media. So again, it's an open book. As a player. You know where you at with this coaching staff, and I just think that's the biggest thing you have so many coaching staff that like you say, want to talk and cold. They want to keep things close to the vest. They don't want to let on to what's going on as the players you want to know to you almost like those fans. You know your listen to sports talk radio. You,.

"Com on the line with us right now, Tim, How are you? How you guys doing? So what did you see in this mini camp? That gives us our first glimpse of what life is going to be like under Coach Campbell. Um, well, you know, it's it's minicamp, right, But 90 guys run around and helmets and short, So you know, there's not a lot you can learn, but I think maybe one thing is there's a different feel a little bit different atmosphere under Dan Campbell. I think they've learned that Look, you can have fun playing football. It's not against the rules. And and so we saw that. You know, I think it's a little bit lighter out there. You know whether it's the big guys playing medicine, ball tennis or They've infusing some competitive periods with races and throwing coaches in there, you know, offensive defensive coaches, You know, they're having a little fun playing football and I, it's a little bit lighter out there. Look, you know Dan Campbell. You know he played this game. He knows there's a time you got to get to work and get get stuff done. But you can have fun, too, And that's maybe my biggest takeaway is It looked like the guys were having a little bit more fun playing football. Yeah. How did Jared Goff look good? You know, Um, you know, I thought he looked really strong on Tuesday. I thought you know you a little bit shaky on Wednesday when they put in some Red Zone stuff and and those are tough situations ahead. Some gotta have it situations, forcing and goal from the eight. Those are tough situations score. I thought the defense one those sessions, and then he was strong on Wednesday. So, um, look, this is, you know, football team is going to have pretty good offensive line. They're going to want to run the football and then they're going to throw it off that and so, um, you know, it's about putting him in good situations. Not asking him to throw 50 times a game. That's not going to be what and people who wants to do and so hopefully then get ahead in the score board and not have to get in a situation where he's throwing all the time, and that's kind of where they want to play offensively. Are they going to be a shorter passing game? Because he definitely doesn't have the arm the Stafford has. So it is the there's going to be more like you West Coast short game. Is that what he's doing? Yeah, I think so, Ken. They're going to spread some guys out. You know, I think you're going to see DeAndre Swift and slot some. They're going to try to get there the the football to their weapons quickly. You know, I'll tell you who I thought was really strong over the three days with TJ Hockenson. And you know, I'll just throw this up that would be surprised at all. If he leaves the team targets, catches yards and touchdowns this year, you know, to your point about the intermediate kind of middle of the field passing game play action. They have built a pretty pretty good report here over the OTAs and minicamp. There is 12 minute period, You know, they started at the 25 yard line under two minutes ago. They had to get down the field and it was golf 10 yards out golf to Hawkinson. You know, 10 yards out, Go off the hawks and down the scene golf to Hawkinson inside the 10 and then got him into the end zone. So really relied on him there and And I think they're going to sort of the running backs a lot, too. They really like what DeAndre system Jamal lanes can do in the passing game as well. So it will be, I think shorter. It'll be park and the running backs just with some of the question marks. You have it wide receiver with some of these guys. How does any of the Rockies look? Um, It's kind of hard to tell Derrick Barnes, um, looks looked okay, sat out. Some in OTAs was back at the mini camp. But again, it's helmets and And, you know shorts. Penny Sewell again. You didn't have any past terrestrials. You couldn't evaluate the run game because there was no pads. No, no hitting. So, um, you know, I thought maybe the one that you could tell the most from was a man. Ross ain't Brown. Therefore, from pick the wide receiver, you know, I think they're going to use him a lot of different ways. Um, you know, I thought he was. He was pretty impressive. Jared Goff mentioned him and Victor boldness, guys that kind of impressed him early on amongst the young guys, so he's going to get an opportunity to play. He started in the slot with the first team. Um, and he returns, kicks and return punt. So I think there's some versatility there. They like his route running. They like his work ethic. Um And so he's going to get an opportunity I think to play and make an impact early on. Jeff all Cuda back healthy. It was to notice him at all. Yeah, Yeah, I think so much. Um, you know, didn't Her act as the last day on Thursday, ran into Damien Bradley and walk through that kind of bumped heads. And so he didn't practice when they were Thursday. Yeah, this is the hard hitting defensive back. Yes. Great people. What? He walked into somebody else on the interest, right? Yeah. Yeah, He's going to miss the first three games of the season, Somebody would make sure the tunnel on the first game of the season. They have helmets on making. Oh, my. Come on. Yes figure, right? No, but I mean, during OTAs and the first day, you know, he looked okay. But again, you know you weren't Jamming at the line of scrimmage. You weren't doing all those things that we'll see in training team. I can tell you this. There's a lot of pressure on the young guy, right? I mean, well, yeah, deservedly. So, I mean they pick and third in the entire draft. He has nothing first year and then people move on to the to the next year, as if that doesn't somehow count or that doesn't somehow haunt you. If you were really wrong about a number three pick in the draft, and so I pay great attention to the 2nd and 3rd years of these guys who were picked in the high rounds and Sadly, the Lions have a really bad track record of picking guys. Hi, who a lot of promise their first training camp and then the first year isn't everything they wanted to be, but it's like, well, they're young, and they're They're just getting into the league. And then the second year is kind of weaker. Next thing you know, you're Gaster cherry list, you know, and and nobody even knows where he went. So, uh, I'm looking more for What a Cuda does this year? Because if he craps out again this year is just average. That was a really wasted pick. It was really wasted Fix. Yeah, you're right. There's a good point by you. I guess I guess you through the lines are hoping it takes the T. J. Hoxton route right. The guy who came in was a high pick number. He's gotten better every year. Gotten better. Every year. I took that big leap from your 12. Year two and so Look, Aaron Glenn has, as you know, had a lot of guys that he's developed. You know, Marshawn latam or you know some of these guys that were in the Saints. He took that secondary from being one of the worst in the NFL when he took over as the defensive mask goes five years ago and made it one of the best. So you've got to hope that the combination of health one he had the surgery in December. He's 100% healthy. And, you know, maybe what? Erin Quill. Not afterward after walking into the guy he lost, stood on the head. But yeah, careful Where you walk, buddy. Yes, but I'm with you. That's a big one to watch. I think at the start of training camp. I've got my eye in and he's got to be good. Look, he's going to start. He got all the rest of the starting corner. We'll see what happens opposite him with the money where you are you and Quinton Dunbar some of those guys, But look, they're counting on Jeff. Well, could it be a big part of their defense? And look, he has to be her arm with you that that was a bad pick and you put yourself back. All right, we'll keep watching. I did note that, uh, McVeigh, the coach out in Los Angeles. There was a story on him. I'm like he's just really happy right now, Like, like, someone said, when you just look really happy, because, well, I really am. I'm going to way better move this year than I was last year. I think you know, and it keeps saying because he's got Matt Stafford the quarterback, and we have his old quarterback. So how happy are we supposed to be, But Well, I guess time will tell time will tell Tim Thank you for coming out with us. Alright, Educating have a good one from come back with..
