"What's going on everyone and welcome back to another episode of chargers leap happy new year to everyone as well. It's it's twenty twenty one. I hope all of you guys had a wonderful holiday break. I know i did appreciate you. Guys kind of sticking me with that wasn't the same amount of content through the holiday season but i mean we all kind of need our breaks especially after a long season like this especially my first season covering the team from a professional standpoint was. It was a big deal for me to kind of get some of this needed rest especially heading into draft season draft season for the chargers. That's going to be extremely you know. I don't want to busy but i mean it's going to be lively. It's going to be entertaining. There's so many ways the charters can go in the first round with her. It's tackle edge. A cornerback i mean depending on how this team kinda fares through the first few weeks right. We'll see you know who the head coach is even gonna be. Maybe we can't even get that deep into draft stuff until we figure out who the coaches the kind of schemes. He's going to run and things like that regardless. It is a busy time leading up to the nfl draft. I like to do a lotta things like to be involved a ton so Most definitely again. Appreciate you guys giving me a little bit of a break and sorry. I didn't tell you guys that actually was going to to to skip an episode there kinda just winged being away from a home with family for a good solid week so guys. It is week seventeen into a game against chiefs that will be missing quite a bit of star power compared to maybe this matchup in week two. So let's dive into the injury report in. It's a fairly decent size injury report for both teams so as far as the chargers go your players that are out. That will not be playing in the season finale. Our joey bosa. Ray sean jenkins brian Laga casey hayward blind maliki jefferson and jalil a di di was questionable on friday I am recording. this on. saturday obviously died this morning. was downgraded to out so all those players are out in sam. Heavy tackle is questionable. Now that's a lot of talent. I mean we're already missing quite a few starters before the season injuries piled up. No joy bosa. Oh in tina. Now keenan allen wasn't on the official injury report you know deemed as because he is actually on the covid nineteen list so he is out he will finish his year with nine hundred and i believe ninety two yards receiving with so he falls short of one thousand yards. He did get to one hundred receptions before he stopped playing this year and unfortunately he didn't have an opportunity to break his career high. In touchdown assuming touchdown receptions in a season with eight so we had eight to finish this year which is a a ties mark. He says a rookie back in two thousand thirteen. Just a huge bomber man. He was really on pace to set career highs. He had ninety nine catches And i think nine hundred seventy something yards heading into the raiders. Game was three games going. You know he had all the time in the world all the opportunities to set career highs across the board unfortunately hamstring injury plus covid It just wasn't in the cards for for slayer this year. Moving onto the kansas city side of things players that will be out so we obviously know. Patrick mahomes will not be out. He will be sat and rested prior to the team's first round by of the playoffs. Other players out include rookie. Running back clyde edwards. Helaire tyreek hill is out with a hamstring injury. Ben neiman one of the middle linebackers. Mike remers can't recall. Remers was a starter or not. I believe he is one of their guards. He's out sammy. Watkins will be out as well and then questionable or defensive tackle. Derek nadi one of their starters and leon bell their backup running back so in this game if bill plays. You're probably gonna see a lot of bell but overall a lot of their good players not a healthy in this one. But at the same time i would be surprised to see someone like Travis kelsey play you know. He set the receiving record yardage wise for titans single-season broke. George kills record this year. He has kind of all the records and things he needs. I don't see why he would play in this game as well I don't know if tackles eric fisher in mitchell schwartz. I don't know if those guys will be playing either. Both starters both important the success of this team guys christiane frank clark on the defensive line you know. Maybe they play. Maybe they don't. I just don't know how many stars if at all we will see against kansas city this week. One of the bigger story lines especially recently with rookie quarterback justin herber was the rookie touchdown record against the denver broncos. He only needed one. And that's all. He threw for three four single touchdown for his twenty eighth score passing score of the season to break Mayfield's record of twenty seven that he said back in twenty eight team so on the year. He says twenty eight passing touchdowns in thirty two total touchdowns with four rushing touchdowns. Pardon me now in terms of other records that he could break potentially in this game. If justin herbert gets three scores total scores passing inrushing combine. He will tie cam newton's total record for total touchdowns that he said back in twenty eleven with thirty five now if he gets four total touchdowns he will break that mark and have it all for himself in terms of andrew. Lex passing yards record luck in two thousand twelve threw for four thousand three hundred seventy four yards at this point. Herbert needs three hundred and forty one yards to break loose record. I think off the top of my head. Herbert has a few games. I wanna say over so three. Forty one is the number this year. He's thrown for that or more Just once okay. So the only game he's throwing for over three hundred. Forty one yards was against jacksonville in week seven. He is throwing for three thirty three twenty six. Oh no excuse me. Here's the three hundred sixty six after he threw against the jets so twice. Okay so just twice. He has done for over three forty one and he's thrown for near forty one a couple of times..

"Chris Carino, Brian Baldinger with you in Kansas City, 7 15 to go third quarter chiefs of the Raiders tied at 24. We had an explosive high scoring first half The defense's have settled in here in the third quarter and Devante Booker's out their tailback for the Raiders. He's been He's been better running back today better than Josh Jacobs, and I don't know if anything's wrong with Josh Jacobs, but Booker's been the better player at that position. He's deep behind car who's under center turns gives the Booker dancing at the line hits the pile drives it ahead for a gain of about two Booker Sacramento native who spent his first four years with Denver after coming at a Utah was a third round pick. But really the Chiefs defensive front has been excellent against the run today, led by Chris Jones. Alex Okafor and Derek Nadi. I mean those guys inside, they're not moved. Empty backfield for cars, Booker goes out in motion to the right. In a second out. It's seven at their own. 32 bar takes the snap. Three man rush forced to his right looking to throw on the run. Does the Waller but he dropped it. He would've had a first down right around. The 40 car zipped in between Two defenders in Waller could handle it Double wall or at the very beginning of that play was a flag Brian on the far side of the field there, the Raiders sideline. Meanwhile, I fire two past holding defense number 30 to 5 yard. Finally automatic pushed down. Tyron Matthew is called for the penalty of the Chiefs. Eighth penalty. And that's the 1st 1st down in the third quarter for the Raiders. So they get their 1st 1st down via penalty. So eight penalties totaling 79 yards. They two cheese penalties on offense wiped out touchdowns car out of the shotgun on first attended his own. 36 takes the snap give inside the Booker Booker off left tackle. Crashes into the line and plows ahead to the 40. That's a gain of four on the play for Devontae Booker, the Raiders. There's just no creases. That time they pull the right guard gave Jackson around what we call a power play. But Miller Turns out good on the left side. Then you get any movement at all one dimensional game. Raiders offense right now. Jacob's comes back in. He's in an eye behind in Golden fullback witness in a tight end. Double tight end set to the right Now Waller splits apart from Winton. Witness a slot take the snap car back to throw on second out at six. Looking around, dumps down Jacob's Jacobs is hit. In the middle by Wilson and thrown backward after a gain of four out to the 44..

"We saw the chiefs spelling Derek Nadi with Hershon warden to Sean Borton is about two hundred and eighty pounds. That's not huge for Steve spagnolo's typical nose tackle and Sean Warton ended up playing about seventy five percent of his snaps as a nose tackle this week that is a little bit rough at the big ask for him at that weight in his play style to try and be that type of player Mike. Panel is that type of player bigger to gap and kind? Of Guy Nana penetrator I think we will see the defensive line look a lot better with a guy like that that can spell their naughty. Let's jump ahead to the twitter questions. Now at a lot of them in some had very similar themes try to those together. So there was some great questions in some some questions kind of got ask three or four times. Thank you all for your questions. Sorry we can't answer every single person's vitamin. J. Will Start off with a joke name more conic duo than Andy Reid and dominating the AFC west. It's not all bad right now, Andy Reid continues to shred is division and that's the reason. This team's always going to be the places that they are. Kit Swanson slandering Kirk cousins out of the blue. Better do. Oh. Hey. I love just a random the kirk drop from here from now every now and then it feels good. Especially, with my man was like it would have been better if he just spiked the ball..

"But there's no precedent the nineteen sixty nineteen is basically all in the ring of honor. Yes okay yes absolutely I was gonna say even if he just plays out this contract roughly the same level in ends even with one ring that yes. He obviously won't because the three four five seven. That's what Lebron sat right. Yeah I would. I would put him in. If that's kind of the president. I think he should be at that point if he did what he did for. This team had got a super bowl ring and they'd played out you two to three years with Dale. This is the start. We talked a little bit about it at the end of the last pod. A A steve SPAGNUOLA defense is being installed still like he. He admitted in the lead up to the Super Bowl. It was like listen still are playing well well like none of us are sitting down and watching the tape and going boy. This was a good performance which I mean if you go back and you look at those games yet. There's obvious holes. There's obvious errors. I they are making the most of what they've got tire. Matthew is going nowhere like he has endeared himself to Kansas City. Kansas City is going to continue to pay him. I'm a lot of money to stay here. And be this type of player and this type of leader tyrant matthew. May Dan Sorenson come out of his shell Shell. That's how good tyrant matthew is coming out of his shell pointing to your head awkwardly. Man I'll tell tell you what was the only time Dan has ever celebrated in the history of anything. I'm certain of this. You know he is getting a lot more like aggressive aggressive with the I black to like he looks he looks he looks much more intimidating with like the like the ultimate trying to poke honey badger. Yeah he's trying to get that championship. Swagger man yeah but I mean I just think that yeah he's GonNa stick around. He's going to be that guy. I think yeah yeah. I think that he's going to get into the ring of honor but again not just one year. He's gotTa do it more than one year if he gets beat up and hurt for the next two years and doesn't play again Dan. They're not probably going to put him in the ring of honor for that so he's got a repeat but again to two years at this level. Now you're in. You can't tell the story of the Kansas City Chiefs Organization with Tyrone Matthew Hashtag Championship Swagger Justin d spear in the next ten years. How many times will the chiefs beat the preseason? He's in Vegas favorites to win the Super Bowl. Mattie now I know the people in the podcast can't hear me but just imagine Patrick mahomes after throwing a touchdown pass against. It's the Chicago bears where he touted walking off the field dolla got. It's a team. took all the good ten references. I don't I don't have a Gif or anything being interesting as I I'll do you know what if somebody would delete two five star reviews for us which we would greatly appreciate. That would add up to a perfect ten. What you know perfect? Yeah I I think I think ten not out of the realm of possibility though like honestly. That's that's that's legitimate. Curtis clear. See Asks do you think. Last year's playoff game against the Patriots is a blessing in disguise. If the chiefs go onto win they may have kept Bob Sutton and Ford instead of getting frank honey and spags so I hate the idea of losses. Being good things. But I think there's some validity to this. I think it I think it. I don't know if I want to call it a blessing in disguise but I think I think that she's about. I want a super bowl last year. Frankly even with all the issues if they had if they'd be the Patriots but I do think it was a blessing to some degree Just because everything is set up for them to it'd be a dynasty now. I really believe that as long as this core is here as long as the coaching staff is here I think they are well. Well positioned to make a serious run at multiple super bowls over the next five years. Yeah that's the tricky part. Because I think if they go play the rams the Super Bowl I faked And Rams were just completely unready for that level of the stage. I think you saw this year. Andy Reid very much was ready for it. ended the chiefs win another relatively high sore game. But that's the issue if you went back to back forty point shootouts to win the Super Bowl. A still thinking defensive. Coaching Staff I change may be an order like that. Would it be president if you have to score forty points to win. I just don't know if you're going to get Frank Clark Entire Matthew. You might just get the coaching staff and like Ken said I think the cheater much better setup for the future the way this happened now to get some of these other players out new players in with this coaching being staff they're set up to be at the top here for the foreseeable future. Now I think that the chiefs are going to make a move at safety regardless. Because has Eric Berry. You know. There's a lot of questions about him. Ron Parker they obviously weren't sticking around with. They let him go so. I think that we're going to address address safety. We might have seen honey badger on this team and they were not going to pay Justin Houston twenty one million dollars next year last this past last year so there were probably cut in him. Too now deformed probably would have stayed but we might have seen Frank Clark added but I don't I don't think that either one of those guys is the same player without Steve Spagnolo and him being created in his ability to get the most out of his guys. Being able to bring in Brendan Daily. Who all the man does his win? Rings apparently my goodness feels I would say Madison. Like we don't Get a day merit. We don't get all of these guys in house to sorta transform the way things are done bringing new techniques bring in a new way of looking at things so even if they had added Frank and honey badger they might have gotten a little bit better obviously because of the quality of the player. But I don't think that we see what kind of impact and then. We certainly don't have the sort of outlook that we have now. They're not winning the super bowl without Steve spagnolo. This year I hear Dave Merit tap is next pre super bowl speech. It's going to be great beautiful vitamin Jay and we kind of answered this question a little bit. Let's stretch yourselves a little bit. Who was the player on defense? Besides Chris Jones Frank Clark in the honey badger that made the biggest impact on the game. Derek Ninety Ninety nine was a monster. Guys I don't know if you've seen the Brian Baldinger clip odd odd Derek. Naughty late in the game there there was a five yard. Run on first down. It seemed like a fairly routine five yard run Derek. Nadi body moves. Laterally gets knocked down to one knee imposs- backup gets his arm out swims back over the dude gets his arm out and brings brings down the running back right there guys. The linebackers are completely out of position. Chris Jones is playing the pass on first down. It's a day it was a blown play that Derek Nadi single handedly stopped and then the forty niners passed on the next to downs and punted the ball away Derek. Naughty was a very key cog in making this defense work for the Super Bowl. I'm going with him. That play Craig's talking about you can freeze frame it at one point. A defensive tackle is the only player achieves in a three gap window on the fields at the gap earth B. A. B. A.. Here he's right. The only guy there. The tackle there are four blockers. Only one of them is is occupied. It she makes the Stop because Chris Johnson circled out. Somewhere else in the linebackers gone. He is by himself in like ten yards of field in makes the one place that possibly acidly saved the game. I imaging kindle fuller. I think Kendall Fuller was playing great deep. He was almost. He was perfect coverage he made two good pass. breakups was interception was a good pass. break-up he stepped in and played safety at the drop of a dime because Got He who is one of the reasons that the chiefs were able to stop the forty niners. The team that actually had the most explosive plays on offense ratio section. He stopped him from having big place. He was the guy that did it. So I'm GonNa Kendall Fuller Craig. Went Dead Body. What do you have a well? I had much like Mattie earlier. Derek Nadi I had Kendall Fuller queued up and this is I'm not trying I'm not trying to diminish the defense or diminish a super bowl champion but that might be the list right. I mean we haven't mentioned from Frank Clark though. But Frank Clark's one of the ones that we can't talk about. Oh Yeah it was Chris Franken Badger. Yeah never mind the shod. We already talked about the a shot. We already talked about naughty. We already talked about Kendall Fuller honestly I think you know the linebackers for the linebackers had a really really bad day really rough really bad day so much so that after this now. We're kind of talking a little draft here. I I've been a little little bit anti round one linebacker for the majority of this season so far but after getting the ring and securing the securing the ring. I'm just like screw it. Just go take a linebacker. Help fix this abomination that is happening. In the second level of this defense it was honestly honestly I think you would have looked back and been frustrated at the inability of some of the more athletic players to earn the trust of this defensive staff Like like a dory know Daniel like daringly. If she's had one this football game they were very very on good. I'm not GonNa let's say bad anymore. Because they're super bowl champions. They weren't up to the championship level but they were because they want it. So I don't know I let's give it's been neiman forgetting that. QB Hit it's funny for a game. Where the chiefs only twenty points? I think you're right though like I don't think you could really point to any other defensive player really standing out very often besides the guys who talked by Mike Panel Dan Sorenson called Saunders. They've all had had good moments. RESHAD finish a race. They have good moments for the chiefs and even in the playoffs. They scan them. None of them really stood out is doing a whole lot help. Despite the holding of twenty points I think like my takeaway from this football game on the defensive side was it's awesome. spags is awesome. There's some good pieces pieces in place. They could be a lot better if they almost completely overhaul their back. Seven everything but the safeties lake. Nick needs a lot. I think. Various words traverse words probably locked in one.

"What's Dory Know Dan Eh now put down your your torches a pitch for I loved Orion Daniela's well? I want him on this roster but he's gotTa make it as a special teamer. I think we know that he's a very good special teamer but there's a lot of very good special teamers on this roster currently he's got to be able to show that he could step in and contribute in a big way in order to justify both his his position as a special teamer and his position as a linebacker Dory know Daniel. I'm not saying it's going to happen but that that would be a big surprise. I think we'd all agree. That's a that's a big surprise that happened but right now. He's he's pretty firmly. A backup and special team could come down to him. I been Neiman in a way for a roster spot. We're talking backup right nickel linebacker. That's a special teams play while I will and I mean and that I would keep doing Daniel in that instance but that's yeah who knows I will say this if Doria no Daniel cut a brillon speaks. Does it show promise next year. That's that's a bad drafts a bad draft. I'm over the Derek Nadi slender on this podcast. There's no okay we love Derrick. "And then when you get into pass rush downs these defensive tackles most often become defense events rotational defensive as you get your third defensive end your fourth defensive end on the field. You get four pass rushes like four outside pass rushers on the field so often from him. It's one of the biggest things that people wanna talk about with special in it. Does it happens a ton when you start watching the fell? Yeah. It does. I, they, they go quote unquote, light. That often you, you don't necessarily have those big guys on the field a lot. And it allows them to be able to mix and match and the fun part will be some of these guys will drop and some of these linebackers will blitz and some of the safeties will blitz and you just never know what you're going to get there. And part of having those guys that can play all over that defensive line is being able to use them in that way, being able to line up with three down linemen and not knowing where those guys are going to come at you where those guys are going to rush from that that's going to be the benefit there. I know people are cringing right now thinking of Bob Sutton's, three three-man rush here. This isn't dropping Justin Houston. And d for this is still Frank Clark. Alex Okeafor coming off the edge would maybe Chris Jones coming from one tech. That's still a good three man, rush. They can get home. It's not. Asking Alan Balian Derek Nadi to carry their weight in the past Russian that situation. No, absolutely. It was going to kind of brush over some defensive line trends that I was saying, you're so on your base downs. You had your base for starters. Like I said had your defense events. Your one tech three tech those defensive tackles as you start working nickel that honestly stays about the same your defensive end. You're starting defense events or playing the majority of the snaps defensive end you will have a main backup defensive in. It's a passer shaky plays on the outside. He's usually gonna come in for a whole series. So that's either brillant speaks, Alex Okafor. Not also fly think we think he's a starter or manual operate. Now those of us that your third defensive end in what you start getting into in second long, the nickel stuff like that. You start getting your next your fourth one playing defense of tackle. This is why I think bringing speaks is gonna fit perfectly even before these pictures that came out earlier this is where he always fit. The best of me. He takes over your defensive tackle your nose tackles role as that third down pass rusher in then you have to defense or you have Chris Jones, a defensive end of some sort playing inside your to defensive ends on the outside, but your rotational long defensive line, isn't that deep? They just moved is all around. You may get four defensive ends. It gets snaps in maybe three difference of tax on a good imminent self seven that's strong rotation, but it's not huge wing. Thank some people think it's gonna be in really is dependent on down in distance and stuff like that. He's not just putting guys into put them in. Right. One of the things that of that I had mentioned in our earlier podcast this week in got stats in front of me, Damon, Harrison snacks Harrison, a nose tackle four Steve, Spagnolo in twenty sixteen was third on the team in tackles with Landon Collins Jonathan Casillas evince knacks with eighty six. Tackles at eighty six tackles from your nose tackle with their defensive line rotation. He was a monster seventy two and twenty fifteen seventy six twenty seventeen Jonathan hankins played three tech and had fifty one thirty forty three forty four you know, significantly less than their one tech and part of that's because snacks had to play three tech. Sometimes they shifted around. Hankins is big hankins. Three twenty five. He's not a small dude..

"You know, we know how important this is she understood like there's a there's a very close. There's better life connected to him getting higher draft picks made the college education for his kid by doing that. No that he did little hungry pig too. In college actually, cutting touchdown pass. He's a big as some ball skills. Get him. But he did catch a touchdown passes. They western Illinois with little everything. There was a picture of my guy Mitchell this and the other two draft picks and Saunders going around the internet yesterday. It was at the draft vest. Man Saunders is huge. He is big. He is a house. He's thick. He's a house. I like this quote from bread of each this one stuck out to me after the pick of Saunders when it came to the full defensive line can have enough about letting DT's and. That defense the line now on we're looking at are out of two Debrosse, or and you know, yet Frank Clark. And then yet a Saunders and then in Oba off-season Okeafor and Chris Jones, Derek Nadi Bruin speaks in. And we looked at that defense line right after the draft and we were all smiling. Here's the thing for Justin lane goes to the Steelers right before him. And I'm kind of wondering if the chiefs go Justin lane that he's still there. Holly Warri wearing those two picks. Jalen, Ferguson, believe it or not by guy goes right behind you. The draft the color warring is one of the best tight ends in my opinion in the draft. And again, this is the position that chief didn't give but they chose Saunders over wearing. I mean, it's really the only guy that I could see him counter McGovern, maybe in that situation. But the thing that Justin lane Witton furnishing, I'm halfway wondering if the chiefs would have gone Justin lane instead of Saunders. I did wonder because that kind of made sense from a length and ball, skills perspective..

"Maybe it's a guy we look at in the in the seventh round or maybe as draft free agent to try to target and identify as a tackle project. The defensive lines move to the defensive side of the football. This one should take a while. Currently are defensive line. We've got under contract Chris Jones Xavier Williams. Derek nadi? Bruin speaks Tano pass just in Houston. And just in Hamilton a lot of decisions to make here with just in Houston. Craig are we moving on from just in Houston? Well, you know, I talked to Steve spagnuola, and he said that he needs at that Leo position. Either one of Justin Houston or d Ford. I think that we can see the writing on the wall Justin Houston isn't the same player that he was before. I think it's time to see what we can get for form and see if we can't move on from him. No, I agree. One hundred percent with that. I think it makes too much sense. We can save fourteen million dollars on the cap. And I think that's a move that we probably just need to go ahead. And do what I what what we are going to do is obviously we're gonna shop him at the at the combine we're gonna see if we can try to get any kind of deal for him. You know, maybe a team with a lot of cap space like the jets who struggles to get players to actually sign within. Maybe they're not able to to land a big fish on the edge market. Maybe they're willing to give up an asset for just in Houston. Maybe call up the colts and see what they're, you know, looking they're looking at it the position they have plenty of cap space. So those are that's a guy we're going to just try to move on from and hopefully get an asset back for. That leaves us with de fort, Mattie. What's our plan with default here? This is simple. You offer him the franchise tag the moment. You can he's been oddly accepting of it. He seems to have no issue of it. And I think it's because he sees what it is. He can come out and play good just be healthy again for another year. You race a ton of doubts about it contract your guy and a ton of doubts about being injured. And then you're getting that huge payday that you've seen rumored for him or cloudier into these other top edge rushers anymore. So he knows he can get there again all he has to do is sign a franchise tag. Oh woe is Ford. He'd makes seventeen million dollars for that year. He's fine with it. You get it out. There's quickest possible you get them on the tag you push him to plays good as he did this year for another year. It makes way too much sense. He's that good of a football player. And I know choose fans are worried about signing guys with a lot of money that could be injured the next year. You're only locked in for one year. It's a one year thing with the. Ford. He's not going to hurt you the following year. Let it go. You have to pay good players big money or they're not gonna play here. The Ford is the perfectly oh in this system this week's ID -fensive, and he's got the speed. He's got the bend. And quite frankly, he's been better against the run this past year. Justin, Houston was. So that really shouldn't be that big of a concern. Okay. We're gonna come back to you on Xavier Williams, Mattie. So Xavier LIAM's is a guy. It doesn't seem like it would be that big of a deal to move on from him potentially. You could save two point eight million dollars. If you move on from Xavier Williams, what are we doing here? So we just brought him in we paid him a little bit of money to come in based on what he had done. So I sat down spags. We got daily in here. And we had this conversation about what they wanted what they needed in wall Xavier kind of works as a deaf piece. We think the free agency market's going to be just as good if not better than him for the same price..

"And guess what? Some of these ageing veterans might be interested in seeing rain here in Kansas City. So I I'm fine with Steve Spagnolo as defensive coordinator. He's about as good of a move as they could've made that was realistic because some people Bill bell checks, not leaving New England come be your defensive coordinator some people's expectations are just way out. Out out of realistic expectation, so I'm fine with this. Craig EU started studying that actually started studying. Some of these Bagnall those defense from the past. What did you see? Okay. Yeah. Not yesterday's practices were rained out spent a good little while here. Looking over some of his back molars recent defense on drawing terrible diagrams, Got it. she'll. Teach you guys. So here's the thing kid thinks that the sinner has to be a square, which just means he draws a bunch of extra lines Zeke facs, and he didn't understand that we weren't diagreement play or formation. I was literally just putting personnel on a piece of paper. So I could figure out where who was playing which linebacker stun except anyway, we will get Kimba sleeping. So let's just let that go. This is situation where the the deepish you're going to have a rush line or a pass rusher with their hand in the dirt to the non tied inside. That's guy that could be deformed. You're gonna have a lighter guy that can do that next to him. You're going to have any Platek Chris Jones in that situation makes fun of cents. He's going to be able to transition there. You also have an under tackle or one tech that plays there. That's Derek Nadi. Save your Williams. Maybe some guys there. We're looking at the draft here. We'll talk a little bit later about them. Maybe. And so that and then you have a strong side defensive end. That's actually kind of a perfect spot for Brillon speaks to rush off the edge. To do some damage as a player, I think if it's him greatly. Now, the thing that a lot of people are asking about from four three standpoint the way, this fact accuses his strong side or Sam linebacker is kind of a stand up edge rusher in two thousand sixteen when he had a very highly rated defense that was a liberty Vernon guy that bigger stand up. Rush linebacker that that could be a guy the like just in Houston, if they needed to keep him still he makes a lot of sensing did tasks that position with some coverage ability on tied in nobody wants to hear that about Justin Houston, but it is a situation where that used him standing up, and then when they went into their base, they took the defensive end off and had him rush. And then on the second level they had a Mike and will linebacker similar to what that she's already had in Anthony, Hitchens and Doria. No Daniel, Anthony Hitchens has looked. Significantly better as Mike linebacker four three. Then he never did a will linebacker in a three four. So there's yeah, that's not saying much. But there's a couple of positions ruble alternates. Joe gross the position or the players of the personnel that the chiefs have actually have a few upgrades. I think my switch into that scheme degree that. Yeah. No. I think so I think the big thing that she should have to figure out here is first of all with your Sam eleo Vernon is a bigger player that any of our Kurt. Josh is he's bigger than Justin Houston, and he's better. And this is big praise. He's better than just use inverse the run he really is especially what Houston was this year. So you're still looking for you had a lot of options that you're saying this isn't to say that spags has the play the exact same. Some teams will have a little bit more athletic Sam like a mile Jack was often seen as kind of this kind of player that can run with they tied at coverage. That's not what he was doing with the giants. But that's also an option a guy that can run. And blitz. So you're not looking at Reggie Ragland most likely for this position 'cause he doesn't fit either mold you're not gonna drop him down in the dirt play the run or have them run with tight ends. But somebody like Justin Houston fits his role. Pretty well. We talked about default on the backside is the Leah..

"Burrito. It'll be delightful. Fine cash has become a joke, and if anyone's still listening, I'm sorry. Fair. I mean, I'm not I'm not mad. Let's get into these questions at Klein Optimus asks are we seeing consistent or random flashes from both Derek Nadi in the run defense. Dirk knotty has always had a very quick, I he's not your traditional to gabbing, nose tackle. He can certainly do that and really anchor. Well, and occupy blockers we've seen him do it a couple a handful of times throughout the course of the year when he's been asked to do that. But we're not he has one more often than not this year is through penetration guys, especially win their centers trying to get to their next block. Whether it's polling or trying to climb maybe don't pay him enough attention as he lines up opposite them, and he's really beat a lot of reach blocks from guards and he's able to shoot into the backfield. We we've noticed both him and Xavier Williams are able to kind of get into the backfield more often. And destroy plays before they even start with prime one this week against MAC for a six yard loss. Fantastic job. There's more of that throughout the course of the year. And yeah, they they especially do it against teams that like to pull linemen a lot. I think you'll see more of it with Nati going forward in his career as he kinda gets. He still seems like he's struggled a little bit with every blocking scheme. If you come basic out of the center that he's lined up overs goes going to barely touch them. And then try to move on to the second level or move over to Chris Jones and help with him ninety has the recognition skills just use that first step and beat the reach block coming across. But what happens when guys start the trap him or pull backside guards over to him? He has a tendency to get caught off-balance we've seen fullbacks take him out. You seem tight ends of the block him. So he just kind of his ability to read the blocks that are coming at them. And then I think he'll be even more devastating making these plays behind the line of scrimmage does tackle spot. Does dick dotty real quick? Yes. Or no does Derek Nadi get way d- successfully on Sunday. Yes, or no. Yes. Just because they they did it to him. Once all ready. I think he destroys Devon when they try it. Let's go. So here for that. Just berries Devlin if they try to do that. Because you know, he got from that in in the locker room once they put on the tape for that come through. He might even be a step slow when he's left on blocked through like that. But if he gets a chance of square with Devlin, I think he takes it to the fact that Devlin gets snaps as just like, just I. Atri? It's is there anything it's doing when patriots devastating tone of snaps in being successful with them on the other thing is they've been playing so much with six offense lineman with gronkowski out there. So. It's fascinating at oh. You s asks what did the inside linebackers do differently? This game. They seem far more impactful in the right ways. It's the same stuff that we've talked about kind of the last couple of weeks with the defensive line playing a lot more straightforward gaps in front of them. They're not having to wait for defensive lineman to climb across multiple gaps. And they can kind of play downhill and shoot downhill the very first run play the game d Ford blew it up by by beating a backside Wham from tight end, and he was able to make the tackle for loss. But if he had made the tackle for Reggie Ragland was coming through like a free train through the gab. Untouched the climbing block or just flat missed him because Reggie shot at so quickly. There's been a lot more of that in the past couple of weeks and a lot of that comes from a simplified gap scheme up front and helping these inside linebackers to read and process there. Sees quicker and have them get the ability to play downhill. Yeah..

"The game on a twenty nine yard bomb. Steven Nelson gets burned on a deep fade laughed A T Y Hilton who had the huge game against the chiefs of the twenty thirteen playoffs in that Colt. Comeback nelson. Didn't get his head turned in time. He was in decent position. And a great throw by luck. And the colts have an offensive touchdown at five thirty one left in the game. I mentioned that luck has lost a little bit arm strength, in my opinion. But certainly the accuracy right there that he showed was seconded on that the six TD passive Steven Nelson was given up this year. T Y Hilton such. They weapon and now Terry who missed a twenty three yard field goal at the end of the half, which looms bat big is that. Yes that would have been a one possession game. Now. As it stands. It's twenty four to thirteen and still a long way to go. The colts have all three timeouts in the two minute warning. And they have stopped the chiefs offense for the last five possessions vegetarian getting ready for the point after. And his point after is. Misses the field goal. Derek Nadi with the noth- portion appears not only that bene-. Terry miss a twenty three yard field goal. Now. He pushes the point after to the right side and at five thirty one to go in the game. The chiefs have a lead of twenty four to thirteen. That's simply doesn't happen from that. Man. Again, the forty six year old Viteri. With two unaccustomed place just to review Vinnie Terry in his career the most points ever by any player in NFL history in the play offs. These him in and five Super Bowls. He has had game winners in the Super Bowl. But in this game he has struggled a ten play eighty seven yard drive for the colts. They finally get an offensive touchdown. And take three minutes and four seconds off the clock as they found T Y Hilton burning Steven Nelson now the chiefs are up in tissue painting in onside kick, but they're still five thirty one to go in the game. Yeah, I feel like they're gonna kick ticket deeper. Just try to bloop it over that brought lighting and three timeouts and the two minute warning. The chiefs also have to be careful here in a mortar kick attempt Sanchez will lines right? Tremont Smith will pick it up at the twenty. She's trying to avoid a penalty. "And so they leave behind some natural gaps, and sometimes those exchanges aren't handled as well as they could be there still again, very good. But there is some susceptibility for some of the defensive line than we've seen that Derek Nadi, save your Williams and Chris Jones can knife in live in the background. When they see these opportunities in these spaces there will be those spaces in their power run game. They should be able to find a little success in those little moments there where they can pursue. And then on top of that they jump off sides a lot these guys get drawn off quite a bit. When they are away from home Quinton Nelson, especially as surprising as much as I watched this week even here. Late in the year once or twice a game. You see him flinch? They didn't always get cold. But aero had will have an advantage. They will be able to back them up five yards at a time multiple times this week. I think so you talk a little bit about the run game. They're power run game. Get power run game is something they do very very very, well, they have very athletic fleet of foot Lyman very strong lime in as well. They can really pull around the backside where they will find themselves in some trouble is against speed rushers from the edge Judean clowney blew up several plays just being able to beat a pulling lineman to the edge there. That's a d Ford situation. Right. There has been great collapsing on interior runs. I think they can find some success there. But yeah, they they will power run. They keep Marla MAC, very very clean. He's an excellent back. He's very shifty very agile able to squeeze through. Holes and setup tacklers when he's an open field and make guys miss, but he's not not necessarily going to run through a tackle. So if the chiefs can kind of corral him in the backfield a little bit they can keep him there and contain him. But the colts offense of line has a really good job of blowing open giant holes in that game. So a little bit about the passing game. What are you seeing from the like, what's what what kind of stuff are they leaning on the passing game? It's mostly short. Andrew luck is in the bottom third of the league in depth of target for for quarterbacks here in the NFL this year he is squarely between Dak Prescott and Marcus mariota. That kind of puts perspective for people to where where Andrew lucked average depth of target is. And like I said he gets the ball out quick. He gets the ball out short. It's a lot of lot of little five yard outs and things like that to try and beat underneath and eat up trunks yardage sustained drives. That's part of the reason why when people were watching that Houston Texans game last week that they felt like the offense was really scary. Because it was just so many sustained drives. They don't hit on big plays super often. And it allows them to kind of keep run and the pass and run the clock. It's an effective strategy there, but they will max-protect bring in that six offense of Lyman bring in. Allie Cox who is tied in for them. And he will stay inside alongside that six offense of Lima. They will block seven guys run two and three main routes with with running backs running backs aren't shipping as well. Just to try and set up TY Hilton deep against the zone because they had relocated have time to hit them. They are very very safe with the shots that they take. So most of the time it's going to be short. But if the chiefs can see those big fronts, they can know maybe send an extra rusher to try and speed up that clock for luck. Because he's not been as good when he's been blitz this year. His timer gets a little bit rushed. And he's been a little more. Inaccurate. I like it. Mo alley Cox. Actually, he was a power forward for Virginia. Commonwealth. Did you know that I did not do? Who? Does. No, he's he's actually phenomenal blocker..

"And he did a better job in the second half as well. I mean, he was okay. In the first half. Probably could add a second. Maybe third interception. Thrown had the one on the ball were under through tyreek hill, but he played better in the second hand. No, I agree. I agree. I think the team is a whole played better in the second half. We had the halftime show. And again, I was just a little bit concerned would how it was going thought that the raiders could crawl back in and that was really put to bed pretty quickly. I think in the second half. Yeah. It definitely was and going forward. Now, you've got all we haven't talked about Eric berry here in the post like we did on the pre-game show. But Barry Watkins, tyreek, sankl other guys will have a chance to to get extra rest. And again, I I kill for it all the time. I mean, I'm not afraid to go negative. I'm trying to say as bias as possible that way when you know positive about your team just be positive tonight, Pete and Eric buried not. Playing his just unsee unacceptable at this point. And I think that's all you say about at least tonight moving forward. He you would hope that is the highest paid safety league is reason you give it gave him that contract. He plays. The entire playoffs remains to be seen again to me. I think you're just happy that you have the tiling and and this is running through our head. Yeah. It you go to bed easier tonight. If you're chief's fan knowing that you've got your team has ten days of rest before they really start cranking a backup. They've got some time before they really start going out if we off maybe, but they get the extra week of rest, which is massive for this team. That has so many key guys that are that are banged up. And you know that that is important when you have all these injuries. Like, everyone always wants to say, we'll Sammy Watkins is the guy that the chiefs miss the most this now offers you an opportunity to maybe get additional rest for Sammy Watkins Derek Nadi is in the concussion protocol. He's played a bit of time. Again, it's not as sexy as name is Chris Jones. But it's a guy who's. Played a lot of snaps for you in the middle of that defensive line. He's going to need to recover from that concussion. You hope it's by the time the chiefs play their playoff game, which will be in about two weeks. Yeah. And you know what? And I I know I mentioned this earlier like to know if we go back a year or a back of your back the beginning of the season you go back seventeen weeks coming out of that preseason. What did you think going in? And what did you think coming out when you didn't really know anything about Mahomes? What was the rhetoric? Everybody the words about Mahomes. Well, he's gonna throw a bunch of touchdowns, but he's gonna throw a lot of interceptions because that's what he did at Texas Tech, which was ally. But that's what people made you believe about the air raid offense. What what what are we see Mahomes some inconsistency? In the limited time, we got to see him. And we joked about chiefs lint from the last time we would see him in the third preseason game where they played into the third quarter as well over four today's until there was the next preseason game. And then they would open up on the road for two games before coming back home. So you didn't get to see him at Arrowhead any blows the expectation out of the water in that first week in throw six TD's. And you're like what in the hell is this and he goes on now with touchdown pass. Number fifty. I mean, this is beyond everybody's expectation. And I think the beauty of disease twenty three, and you know, you talk about. The greatest of all time so on and so forth, and that to me, and I think a lot of people can agree. It's Tom Brady. Right because he's been consistently that well into his forties. He's one of bunch championships..

"He's just he needs work getting more comfortable as an athlete right now. He's just very, very rigid. And he's literally only earning snaps, like Matt said. Just to keep Justin Houston, Ford, healthy. He looks like Jarvis Drake dropping into coverage at handy. Kenny nine McCoy asks which rookie will make the biggest impact this year. It's not area springs. Fortunately. Poor pour out again for Aaron springs, Craig, what rookie will make the biggest impact. Well, I think we all kind of hope that it was going to be Dory. No Daniel or Bruins pre traded up for him, but it's been Derek Nadi so far he's getting lots of rotation. He looks good. He looks out in the middle. He's offering a little bit of pashas juice apprising because he wasn't known as a guy who really push the pocket much. So I think he's the guy going forward this year on less they can get, oh Daniel on the field later Yan, I'm gonna keep reading the door. No Daniel hype train and he saw the field for one snap or calling that progress, so percent increase. So we'll see. But at some point in time they're going to have to figure out something for these linebackers. They just a little bit underwhelming and coverage and tear it Smith definitely played a better game this past week, but he's still just not going to be the answer when he's underneath. So at some point in time they're going to have to give Daniel shot. And he's just the one guy that I actually making a big impact on the passing defense. So just kinda holding out till that happens. Still going to stick with him. I think those are the only two that are gonna make a significant impact. I don't see it for our money watts. I we know Bruin speaks is getting his snaps, but I don't think he's going to make an impact. I think it falls on Nadi Danial to be productive this year. In the next year, those guys can transition to a more prominent role at Joshua Neely. Would it make sense to go after someone like Patrick Peterson on a bad team to win now Matthew? No, I don't think so. The quarterbacks were not the issue this week. They may have been last week, but this week they weren't the main issue that we're dealing with. The af just released their final stats. And I looked at the same thing yesterday on the film. Orlando Scandic gave up one catch on eight targets and had like fifty, eight coverage snaps like that's your third corner gave up one catch on fifty, eight snap. So the Pittsburgh Steelers, we still gave up four hundred passing yards, but it just wasn't going to the corners. It was underneath. On the zone safeties linebackers getting beat, having a better cornerback opposite of Nelson and fuller would be great, but I don't think it's as big of a must as some people think it is right now. Fully agree. Scandal was targeted, I believe, eight times and allowed one catch for zero yards. That's that's phenomenal. He had himself a really great game this weekend, like Matt said, going out and spending a lot of money on Patrick Peterson is a little bit of a fool's errand right now, I'm not sure how well even really fits into Bob Sutton scheme. So just not so sure that that's worth the amount of money that it would take to bring in a guy like that. I think they're looking younger, a little more physical, maybe a little more imposing presence to fill that role because I don't really have it on the roster right now at Volmer. Josh asks as good as we're looking in playing. I have some reservations on how many times I've seen Mahomes on the ground after throws have you tracked the number of hits he is taken just curious if we should be concerned about it as if it can take a toll over the course. Of the season creek star sof. Obviously, I don't think any of us have chartered that, but just kinda give some opinions on Mahomes being on the ground start with you, Craig, you know, I think he's been doing a pretty good job of oil. Ding hits, you know, the, we know the one where TJ walk came screaming on block this week into that slant that pet through. He didn't really take a hit on that. He's not taking to many hits..

"At twenty two hours or less. There's no reserves like there's no reserves. Every item is being sold. Every item is being auctioned and the saquon Barkley signed jersey is in the auction that ends Wednesday night. So get in on it as you can. It's awesome their auctions and every other Wednesday, including to this Wednesday, and you can get that signs. Saquon Barkley jersey and about a million other really, really, really cool items again, auction of champions dot com. And the guy that owns Alex, he's a listener which is pretty darn cool. Let's get to number nineteen. John the Niners nineteen. Wow. I think passer, still the biggest need here and feral still on the board and those Montas sweat from the city state. And I like both of them a lot. And I think both could be really good fits. I'm gonna go with feral. I think he's a little more for ready. I love sweat, I think is more upside than feral. I just wanna see him again, you talked about a talked about burns, getting stronger, sweat really needs to get stronger, I think, and and do some things technically a little bit to the level that burns Doug. And I think he could be an conversation to you, but I'm gonna go with. I don't think there's great upside here, but I didn't you high motor guy uses his hands. Well, he can inside counter when you need to. I think he can play right away in the NFL. I don't know whether you're going to get double digit sacks rim, but I think you'll get a productive player who's really good run defenders. Well, just really setting presence on your d. line. What about at twenty chiefs friend? Yeah, John, I see Cleveland, Sarah pretty similarly. And then I think when you look at this is another player that I know we will pretty much the same about you look at this Kansas City Chiefs roster and look. Uh, front. I mean, they took Dirk Nadi at nose tackle in the third round this past spring, he's going to be rock solid for them inside. Chris Jones is really turned into one of the top interior disruptors in the NFL. I was just watching them on film recently against the Atlanta Falcons, and he was unblock -able. But on the other side Allendale he's a solid player and they've got some nice pieces there. But I think when you've got the ability to add and Andy Reid is is really big on winning in the trenches when you've got to believe that a guy that could be the the dominant interior disrupted that Draymond Jones from Ohio State could be. I think that that would be really, really intriguing to put him alongside Chris Jones and Derek Nadi. That might be a little bit too much to pass up drain on Jones. One of my favorite talents in this class only going to be a redshirt junior this year has been playing since his Richard freshman year. I liked the addition of Jones to that depth chart. Number twenty one, the Oakland Raiders. I'm gonna go with Kelvin harm here the wide receiver. I think the raiders have could have plenty of needs. It's hard to tell because they fill it out that roster with so many older players. I'm not sure he's gonna retire after issue who won't. But I think that receiver, if you look at the group Jordy Nelson, how much longer is he gonna laugh. You know, now he's not there Rogers. It'll be interesting to see what he does this season. You know, pers- one of your guys, but I'd side of that. I think they really could be looking for another playmaker Seaver Calvin harm and big body guy makes ton of great. Congested catches how fast is the athletic as as we're going to be the big questions throughout the pre-draft cross. But right now, six, three, two hundred fifteen pound receiver and Oakland that sounds like a pretty good deal to me for Derek Carr. Help out at twenty two friend, the saints. Yeah, I'm going to start the the wide receiver run here as you go with Kelvin harm, and I want to go with deebo Samuel from South Carolina. One of my favorite players in this class regardless of position really good athlete. He's coming off the injury from last year, the broken leg, but this is a caters outstanding. After the catch, he's tough as nails. He's a crafty route runner. He can win vertically end in the quick game. I, I love this kid..

"How long ago now chad pennington man i love chad but after that shoulder injury is just kind of fell apart a little bit all right let's go on the other side of this i've had homework too because they took one of my favorite players in this draft melik jefferson i'm going with the bengals i love billy price in the first round then they go and get sam hubbard and league jefferson backtoback pigs they're just solid they address some needs and they drafted guys that i like poon afforded jason hall signed with the seahawks to texas boys is that change anything for you know because did in the first round penny for you no not at all okay that's good good to know okay jason hall jason good special teams player so i got okay so least favorite draft and again zone my favorite cities in the world i love the food of the culture the people the beer i hate the airport and i did not like their draft the kansas city chiefs i didn't get it i i liked armani watts at liked trade up for ed frazier defend outline means defensive linemen and they don't they drafted to defensive lineman in brooklyn speaks and derek nadi a small linebacker enduring oh daniel that he doesn't play their defense right i like their last three picks more than their first three or money whilst trauma smith and kill mackenzie who they're going to convert to guard i really like armani watts but other than that i'm with i don't really like their draft the draft that drove me absolutely nuts and day three they did make a couple of nights picks but the oakland raiders this has jon gruden all over it and not reggie mckenzie i thought colton miller was a fourth round tackle i thought pj hall who went in the second round was really a fourth fifth round kind of player the brennan parker pick and around threes absolute to trade up the trade up for him is absolutely puzzling with the talent that was on the board arden key is a complete roll the dice which is fine but i just wouldn't expect much longtime with the problems he's had and they rolled the dice on a lotta guys and the savior of this class might be maurice hurst and a fifth round and it doesn't we don't really know if he'll be able to play now he's.

colton miller reggie mckenzie jon gruden mackenzie derek nadi brooklyn kansas chad pennington maurice hurst bengals oakland raiders smith daniel ed frazier texas jason hall poon sam hubbard
