"Workouts are being canceled. Players are testing positive and as major sports leagues tried to get up and running again during a pandemic, there's a lot of chaos except in a sport that usually is chaos. Women's Roller Derby where women with cool nicknames race around on Roller, skates, smashing into each other, the women's Flat Track Derby Association has put together such a concise and safe plan to get back on the rink that other leagues are taking notice like Basketball Canada. Eric Van Stone is the executive director of the women's Flat Track Derby Association, and we reached her in Philadelphia. Eric, I, hear, you're getting a lot of response to these guidelines. Who Are you hearing from? We have eight hundred folks who have requested the plan, and it really is varied. A lot of them are roller Derby groups, but we've got new. York University has for them. Newark Ice Hockey Association Houston Grand Opera, so we really have a wide variety of different organizations who are kind of looking to draw some inspiration from what we did and a medieval combat group in Belfast to. That was maybe my most exciting. Find Yes. When did you realize that your organization? The women's flat track. Derby. Association needed to come out with a guide to two playing sports during this pandemic. Yeah, so we have member, organizations or clubs around the world, and so early on during the pandemic, we recognize that the the most important thing we could do is just collect information so we collected information from around the world, and we started a task forces folks to. Bring their guidelines from Europe from Australia new. Zealand and we realized pretty quickly that the United States was really falling behind. In sort of the the quickness of the information, they were able to get out the consistency of the information from state to state, and so we started to realize that in many ways we would probably be on our own in terms of having to make guidelines that we felt represented our values as a sport. There are seventy years in the guy as I understand it, so we want to give an example. Edmonton right now is in baseline conditions. What does that look like so the very first thing that we actually started working on that that was actually also the very last thing was the baseline conditions, and that was because we really wanted to try to describe what we felt like was a reasonable amount of Kovin in your area to even contemplate beginning to to recover your leagues operation, so we batted around initially the idea of zero. Kelvin, but we quickly realized I live in Philadelphia. One of my other team members live outside New York City. City and it's quite possible that new. York City will never have zero cove it, so the metric of the baseline condition was the most important, and it is five and ten thousand positive cases over fourteen days or fifty hundred thousand, and then you also want to make sure that your local government has said yes, it's okay for folks to be congregating. Stay at home. Orders have been removed and then there's a roughly fourteen day waiting period before folks can step onto the ladder at your one. It's not just about playing safely getting back to playing safely. It's also knowing when to pump the brakes right. So how does that work? Yeah, so what we did is at the end of every tear. There's basically a little There's a little guy that says. Knowing when to step back down, and so if if you need to return to baseline conditions that happens if you have one positive case in your league, or your members, close contact, and then if none of those things happen, you can progress to the next year. And you don't green light fans until tear five. Why is that? One of the first things that we realized is Roller Derby is an amateur sport, but it's also very much a community sport, so a lot of our fans are folks who have been involved in the Roller Derby community for a while and the idea of putting their lives at risk so that we could. Play didn't seem ethical, and it didn't seem like we could create a plan that would work. There's not ever a level where I feel like we could reasonably know where anyone could walk into a building from and so therefore we felt pretty strongly right away that we don't feel like. We're going to be able to hold events with the audiences that we had our twenty nineteen championships in Montreal last November until there is act seen for covid nineteen and I think that that's maybe you're really scary. Place for a lot of other sports to contemplate, but we were there pretty early. An epidemiologist told wired magazine that. Your plan around spectators is so good. It almost made him cry that was kind of him. He's probably responding to the fact that sports in America in particular, but certainly on a global level. Are So focused on returns, and not whether they should return and I think our feelings. Have always been about the ethics of returning, and so to bring audience members into that conversation seemed irresponsible. To us from the outset and I'm not sure that everybody thinks that way, but I also don't know why. Everybody doesn't think that way. I think what little many people do know about roller, Derby. Images from from movies and graphic novels, perhaps not thinking that it's a group of of people sitting around making very scientific mathematical decisions. In a pandemic situation. I mean It's unfortunate that that those stereotypes exist because roller. Derby is a community that has a lot of experts and scientists and doctors, and every other professional that you could think of and I think that that's one of the things that make us. Such. a rich and dynamic sport is that we are are bringing perspectives from a bunch of different disciplines. The W that td built very differently as well. We're a democratic sport. We're very much like a players association, and a League and not a lot of sports are built in that way they create. Relationships between owners and players and so I, think you're seeing a lot of those relationships kind of play out in those ways with Kobe nineteen discussions well so great to chat with you Erica. Thank you for having me. Eric Van! Stone is the executive director of the women's Flat Track Derby Association. She was in Philadelphia and you can find more on that story on our webpage at CBC, dot Ca Slash Ai H.. Lay..

"Yeah well you know how it is. So now we're into the product spotlight and discussion and I up of course is the big news. That's not big news. The Glock forty four. Yes it's not a forty four to twenty two. Ms RPM is going to be four hundred thirty nine dollars. Yeah that's four hundred thirty nine dollars. uh-huh it is Glock nineteen size as most people know by now but if not it is in his twenty two uses standard standard safe action. It has a four point. Zero two inch barrel now. Here's one of the kickers. Meg Capacity is ten rounds. It weighs. He's just over twelve and a half ounces Without the magazine with an empty MAG it adds two ounces Why do they give me all the specs? Loaded maggots sixteen and a half okay. basically I can tell you the dimensions but I'm not going to because it's a glock nineteen in it fits it's Glock nineteen stuff whole holsters stuff like that It looks like it is. I don't know if you'd say it's like a Gen. Four Gen five. I'd say it's kind of a Gen five live so they also are using. Okay I probably am on the wrong on page. They're using a hybrid. Steel Polymer. Slide if you look at it you can kind of tell that like the frame rail section looks like the steel section and the rest is kind of a molded polymer they did put fronts cocking situations on it. I guess that's a good deal Looks like it uses the standard Plastic Glock Glock sites. But I could be wrong It does have a load assists magazine. So it's got something on the side Says it has one of the Glock mark barrels because we care It does have an ambi slide. Stop Lever a reversible maggots not Ambi but reversible and interchangeable back straps as most of them do well. I think that's about all the information on it. But my particular thing is unlike Glock made a big deal. A lot of what was coming out and I was like. Yeah whatever. We'll see what it is but I'm not mad at them for coming out with a twenty two because in the US they don't have a twenty two long rifle some people since it fits the holsters and stuff like that are like okay. This makes sense for twenty two. You know I can think of twenty two. I would rather have personally. But they didn't have a twenty two in their lineup. So okay put one in there make sense to me. I'm sure it feels like o'clock and shoots like o'clock so you know whatever anybody else have their wonderful words of wisdom. I'm just I'm just curious. When they tried to take got page on a springfields playbook with type this thing up and then but now I feel about twenty? Don't care but this is Clark saying you're GonNa love it. I mean I was going to buy one 'cause I got support for it but I I think the sights are adjustable. Instable I'm reading here. I think he actually uses the Glock. One I'm assuming the plastic adjustable. Yeah I think I don't know I just feel like it should be optics ready the and have a threaded barrel but whatever. Well it's not going to have a threaded barrel that's for the European versions not for the American version. They have it threaded barrel four they just. Yeah it's just not going to come to America where you can buy aftermarket you. That's what they said. You just have to what I don't understand that is why wait a minute. The clock threaded barrel aftermarket or just eighth baron. Okay because they must have made a change to plant. Because when I about my glock seventeen couple years. Many years ago I wanted to threaded barrel for it. We don't so three barrels aftermarket up to buy a gun now art art and it's not gonna be optics ready because they said they had to get the weight right to be used with twenty two long rifle. Like where the optic would go is Yup. That would be kind of difficult to figure out. I mean this is in the gun I would use for like if I wanted to. Target Twenty Two or Lincoln twenty two. I'd go with like a rugmark remark series. But if you're looking for something to train all cheaper with and you can Glock nineteen. I see no reason why this well if if they would have had this available one up on my twenty two. This is what I would purchase instead of. This are twenty two and back on it This because I had a glock nineteen so ooh this would be what I would use the train new students on this is what I'd use to even for myself It's the size of a glock. Nineteen if it's in the Glock nineteen stuff. People were disappointed. But you know what. They're always going to be disappointed. All right this is way more like quote unquote innovative than most this up. They release and people are stoped. Put like this is a whole new like this rim fire. This is completely different. That's awesome guys complain. These like he will. He wished they would have come out with a Gen five forty caliber instead what Kuwait whatever. I listen Bro. You WanNa Gen five. If you WANNA forty cowboy our margins just by one aftermarket and dropping the Jin three whatever But my whole thing is this is fine if you're upset over marketing in high twelve. Been Brace yourself show is coming and As a dude I so enjoy watching watching Glock tards just spin around into a one eighty Yeah I have no reason for twenty two twenty two suck twenty two for nobody who cares. GLUCK came out with a two thousand to get one. Did it hurt. Did it hurt to snap around that bad. E- forces hurt you. Allow go ahead and say what's his name. TFT T- I forget the guy's name the one that wears shorts all the time he was like Glock Glock Fan boy. I'm glad fan all of a sudden now like I haven't watched video video like like I've watched your video for years. How you just don't dig twenty twos? All of a sudden clock comes out with one. And he's like I'm Glock Fan boy and this is a really good twenty two in my man and I don't think on twenty twos I mean if I was Gonna ask it this would probably be the one like going to get one for classes or whatever and and in future I might but it's still a twenty two outfielder Ms Rpm way too high Price of that. I think you'll find this coming in at three seventy fifty if this comes into price of mark the ruge mark series or the bookmark mark okay. I get you because major firearms manufacturers. But I mean you can get the frequencies e seventy five cadet. I mean there are a lot of companies out there that make something awesome That because supposedly this thing is three development eleven thousand rounds of twenty two through some of their guns and I'm like yeah whatever did uh-huh in ammo capacity is a bit disappointing. I've seen a lot of people complain about that and I initially was stupid. I got to thinking about it. It's hard to make a double stack rimmed cartridge magazine right so I kinda hard to archer. Here's here's here's my other complaint though and this wasn't my complaint I but then it was brought up to me and it made perfect sense. Why did they not make this S.? Since they only made it ten rounds in the Glock Forty eight frame. I think because I think the Glock Lena fit more people's hand side is going to be more of the this just single thing or the single stag locks aren't fun to shoot like twenty two. I'm just thinking that that it seems like it would have been a better fit because you know if you're a lot of times if you shoot in twenty two years you know you're shooting your sh teaching teaching your kids. You're doing you know a lot of time. So the smaller candlelight be better for that I guess but I think for I think more people get get their hand up around a Glock nineteen better and I think that I think is the better for like if their market towards target shooting and okay in practicing accuracy. I think this is the the better idea. They'll probably come out with with a forty eight size one. Maybe who knows. Yeah probably the only twenty two. They haven't made probably disappointed. Because it wasn't carving and I'm like who is GonNa be that come out to cast and crew and we'll that's the thing is when I saw saw the hype on like it's gotta be a pistol but I'm like I I was like what kind of Pichler they gonNa make me some of the more less derby groups them mm-hmm pretty much called this. I don't know if people have inside information and we're just pretending like they didn't five or six people ahead of time. I bet it's a twenty two. I I guess as broken in private groups so let me go ahead and say I wasn't hyped. It all and I didn't okay. I guess my question is how many magazine but I'm guessing just one right instead This is exactly they have. This is almost a love people. Why didn't they come up with a double stack? Well why don't you name all the double stack twenty two semiautomatic. It needed to be relief. Suit like this needed to be a thing because none of the conversion kits really work all that well and you're gonNA pay close to four hundred bucks for Conversion Josh do will to this really needed to be a thing and the people that don't like it. Don't get what I can get one. Yeah I'm looking at it like I like it. I hope it's a lot cheaper. Ms Rpm It's Glock so it's of course going to blow is going to have aftermarket because it uses the same everything As a Glock Nineteen nineteen June. Five being you know cesary rails holsters sites all of that stuff is formed Glock nineteen so boom. You Go I'm digging it Would I've been I mean was disappointed. No I've Kinda SORTA stopped buying in hype gun companies at this point. Just one too many saints one. Too many Hudson's ends one too many grip zones It's just WANNA forgotten. Listen I'll just jump in a way way back machine way too. Many cult double eagles way way. Too many call nine hundred ninety one. So yeah I mean I've I've I've been doing this for a minute right now and it's like Oh look just put off the product and let me check it out and speaking of just put out the product and no might next up. Thanks for the thanks for the segue there Zane next up. We have released Wednesday the day after the Glock forty four Smith and Wesson. Listen release the P.. Nine Shield easy straight out. What you like? Nobody saw this. Oh yeah now no talk. Tony saw it last week last. Tuesday Tony side the MS RPM. Only four hundred seventy nine dollars on this and did you get nine millimeter. Oh did I say that because I guess they made the three eighty now. They're update upgrading. It to nine it is you know size-wise you know it's easy to rack slide. Three dot sights you.

"Of life. Now, here's the host of the good life guy Bauer. Well, good afternoon. Welcome to the program today is a fun day. You may have left out that bad weather day. What a great day to taste some craft beer at Kansas star casino and the eighteenth annual mid west veer fast. If you have a VIP picking I hope you're out there getting scanned in banded up and ready to roll because predator twenty five minutes from now, you'll be in the door and back here at the section those of you that didn't get a VIP section. We only sold one hundred and they went pretty quick you still have time to buy tickets the gate for everyone. General ambition opens at twelve or one o'clock, rather, it's it's forty five dollars a person and midwest beer fest dot com, click on purchase tickets, and you can do it. While you're standing in line, and you can have the tickets download it to your iphone, and it's just so easy. And then we'll scan you in and you and your friends will be on their way, you can do that up until two thirty today. But I wouldn't wait till two thirty to come down here because so many beers. So little time. You're eighteen year old to drive you home. One of the better ones. I think it's coming together really cool on the arena floor at gander star casino. And if you know, we didn't we didn't the convention center in Wichita, I guess you could say they discussed because they didn't have dates that would work for us other than Halloween weekend. And that was not a good date. And then we had to sign a thing that said, oh, by the way, we can cancel your event at a moment's notice because we may be tearing down the convention center. So that's why we're here. And frankly, I think it's gonna work out. Really great. Don't forget us Uber. There are some of the bus companies party buses are running people back and forth and the hotel. I think is sold out. But they do have a Dell right here, you could probably get a room midwest beer fest dot com. That's where you get tickets. Let me introduce you to my first guest today. You know, of course, 'cause you follow Kansas dot com. And dining with Denise Denise. No, welcome. Once again to thank you. For having me guy. It's so fun. And I kind of feel bad that we're in the green room in the arena floor told the Nathe, which the walls could talk. Oh, I know I've never been in an actual green room. I wonder who's been in here. And then you notice there's a very strong smell of like room deodorant. I wonder why they had to use that. I don't know. But it doesn't look like anyone's trashed it yet. Not. Well, they did the stars do track. This is nice though, I told them since I'm doing my program here from the green room. I would like. Green Eminem around. No Brown Brown and some prime rib for my friend Travis. Your husband Travis here. He's still walking pretty good for having just completed the Boston the Boston marathon the Chicago marathon, that's pretty good. Yeah. He's kind of an amazing specimen of human isn't. He is. Yeah. Kind of dorky looking, but he's got to Chicago mayor. So that everybody knows a little bit of the history. I started the big west beer fest. And it happened to be that summer of two thousand one and we were September twenty second right after nine eleven. That was the first one was the first one, I didn't know that. Wow. Gone on longer than that. But yeah, that's not the best day to have a fun party. We turned it into a patriotic beer fast. And it was pretty cool. It worked out. Okay. It's grown and evolved. You know, we had live music, and then we had DJ, and we have live music again today, there were setting up they were going to be outside on the patio. But the beer guys were worried about having their guys out there because it's kind of cool. I think you man up put on a sweater cool. But anyway, I didn't even bring my coat. No look at me. I'm wearing my beer crew t shirts. One of the things I think is the best part about the beer fest. As it generates a really cool crowd does. Yeah. You're staying around for the wing fast. Yep. Are you going to stay around for the dance contest? I don't know. We'll see if I can make it that long. Yeah. You gotta because Barbara Bon judges. She is going to judge and she needs one other. Well. All right. I guess I'll just stay in Cape during beer there. You go. Let's talk about what you and I get to do next because I mentioned it earlier, but the mid west wing pests, this is the eighth annual we've been doing this for eight years, and I don't think I've missed one. I don't think I have either. Yeah. This is a good thing. And what that is is I you know, that the benefactor of our charitable donor ship here as part of the midwest beer fest is the end over rails to trails already and the red bud trail and bike enthusiasts that build. Beautiful bike path out of railroad beds. Have you written on that trap? So we should do that sometime. The red bud is nine foot wide concrete. Wow. And beautifully. Landscaped? There's benches. There's doggie bag things to pick up after your dog near your house. Actually, it's just off one fifty nine that it goes west from there, and it's going to eventually go all the way out to Augusta. Appreciate try that out. Yeah. Travis has on it. Okay. You and our ride bikes while traffic, right, exactly. So they get they get all of the proceeds from the wing fast. And you know, I don't remember how much we're charging this year because that was outside of eight dollars when I wrote my stories what it said good. Okay. And then you get the eight or ten wings to try you get to a vote for people's choice. Now, you have to be in the venue. You have to pay your money and get into your pets. Yeah. And then this is kind of a food item. Yeah. Denise, and I and Sierra Scott, and I think Harrison Harrison Harrison gonna join in this judges usually he's just assigned to taking our photo. But this year he gets to actually be a judgment and eating our leftover win. But the wing festival been fun. And there's some new cook participants this year, I think. Name on there. I didn't even recognize well, I met the guy from PAM's wings. Yeah. He's a cool guy. He said, you know, we can't get set up on time. You're not go out and have a wing party. I know where there's some beer. That's funny. So that'll be fun people's choice. You guys get to vote on that? And then the judges will depict the top three winners of the different categories. That'll be announced at three o'clock, but meanwhile, doors open at one Ronnie, chore, the DJ it'll be playing the band, and I'm going to try and get Tony Lee. He's the head man for for the birds local local derby group, they'll be playing live. They've moved. They had the stage all set up in the equipment setup. They have to move. It all inside. They're worried about the weather. And then so many beers. So little time, and I know you travel like beer, and you like to get out and about and walking every year to me the challenges where do I go I and what do I do? There's just so many now and I walked through the arena on my way in here. This is my first time I've been to the casino a lot, but I've never been in this arena. Yeah. Which I've always thought about coming to concerts out here. But this is pretty good. This is good spot for it. It feels like it's the right size. It's all new and fancy and lots of big restrooms everywhere feels nice and then before talking about continuing with the beer fest. I had the opportunity to have food down here twice this week. Oh, yeah. Last night was a Samuel Adams beer dinner. But three days ago was the Alexander valley, vineyards wine, dinner and wood fired grill. So you've got food by Jan rife. Schneider twice man. She did such a good job. The winds showed really well the beard dinner last night. Wow. Vicky. Vicky vicky. It's like a polish name Kovac. Okay. Let's go with that. Okay. Vicki cova. She did a great job of sharing the insights, not only into the company in the history. But that talked about each beer and the the aspects of food and beer pairing. It was really good. I love those beer dinners Chavez loves him too. He wanted me to bring him this year. But. I know I had an really interesting assignment last night. Very interesting assignment. Do you want to hear about it? I do. Okay. Well, I'm writing story about this. Cool little cafe in Durham Kansas, and it has a little German buffet every night. It's like a tiny Mennonite town with population of one hundred. It was amazing. It was probably the most Kansas thing I've ever done in my life. I can't wait. It was really fun. And what city is it in Durham? And it's called the main street cafe, and it looks like about the only business on mainstream. But it was absolutely packed. They have sausages both baked and they had a brisket. They had some kind of midnight dumplings that I'd never had before I know in the desert table picture break all kinds of Mennonite homemade pies. It was really cool. But you would have liked this dinner last night because there was kind of a German theme. Also, we started off with scallops English peas, carrot ginger. Puree? Chris dough and citrus Amal emotion too. Big. Big divers scallops feared and with all that stuff going on. Then this was actually part of my favorite white cheddar. AO bisque bacon croutons. Yes. Look quarter inch chunks of large crispy Depp. And that was in the soup, and then a little micro greens on top that was killer. And that was with the Boston lager that's traditional beer, and you know, I think it was the best pairing of the whole night, although the entree Austrian style pork schnitzel herbs Batesville by now you would like that Braves red cabbage Lincoln berries. And I thought when they said that I knew exactly where to Dingle berries Bauer. Yeah. Anyway. Asparagus. Lemon. We had a great desert with cherry week, man. Leftovers back in the kitchen. Does the eldest go knock on it was really great fun. Well, that sounds good all three of the beer fest dinners had one at large burn them went out west at at the double tree Hilton. I hear rave reviews from all of them. Yeah. Good. I'm really sorry. I didn't get to go to one. But I'll tell you what let's take a break. We come back. Let's talk about what's going on here today. And I've got all kinds of fun stuff to tell you about October. Did you know October's popcorn month? What for me? Any month? If I live with a popcorn eater. So. Yes. And the non GMO vegan gluten free sugar free. It's just good for you naturally though in fat and calories and melt butter on top. That's what makes it tastes. Good at Travis will only eat it. He pops it on the stove. And he puts nothing on it, not even salt. And I just I can't tolerate like a plane. That's he likes it. A tip for you..

"One in particular stands out it happened during a trip to mexico so i had this wondering what i went on that trip basically i had to lead a child that myself ruin banned in high school the creepy old abandoned gore and it was populated by groups of murderous well our children who were trying to get at the whole time and i tried not go heard any of them at first but then had to fight our weight growing at the igc heavy darko memory derby group battle the little kid we're all evil and well armed with heavy weapons by the china was done when i finally woke up way i remember the ended a dream have unit thought you know when will bring an end it it really gone on for twelve hours a new health emotionally goddard after that there's a reason all this was happening to tarba's it's because marijuana's supresses ram sleep ram stands for rapid i movement and that's what our most vivid dreams occur here's dr ruben diamond to explain he's a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the university of arizona senator for integrative medicine the suppression is a little bit like a rectifying a chemical dan if you will that it it it inhibits the flow the fluid flow of ram sleep what happens when the pressure behind that dan build and build it breaks through and we essentially getty gush a high pressured rebound of ram sleep now they're powder and ends up damaging not only our dreams but it damages are sleeping the rebound pushes ram sleep early into the night where we typically are experiencing our slow way the our deepest sleep and so it it displaces thieves sleep in it turns out that the quality of their ram sleep is really core compared to howard should be.
