The Steelers cut Steven Nelson

"Want wanna start this show with stephen nellis fallout but not just steven nelson steven nelson and the steelers fallout. A lot of people were asking me. Ask the people on twitter saying. Hey gimme your questions. A lot of questions came about steven nelson. Because steven nelson was released from the steelers on tuesday and there is speculation. About what are they going to do with the eight million dollars a day saved. There's a lot of questions about what are they going to do. At the cornerback position There was a lot of questions just in general what happened. Why did they cut nelson. Why did they not cut hayden. Why there's we have more questions than we have answers. Let's put it that way. But the one thing i want to talk about is that where did the steelers go after this where the steelers go after. The news is already coming. Let's be honest. we knew this was coming. If you were if you listened. I said it other people on our platform said it. When steven nelson was granted the request to search for trade. He was as good as gone. The reason being is that no one in their right mind. Excuse me no one in their right mind meaning other. Nfl personnel would have put in a trade request when they knew that the steelers. We're going to cut him anyways. They knew they were going to release in. They knew they needed to salary cap space. They knew that he was the one that they were going to be. Getting rid of so. Why in the world would anyone put in a trade with you. Know he's going to be on the free market. The only team that would is if they're unbelievably needy for a cornerback in a have the draft capital trade. That didn't happen when it didn't happen over the weekend. I said it was going to be released and here. We are on tuesday. And that's exactly what happened. He was released. So i don't think this is necessarily nelson was underperforming. That hayden is better. I literally think this came down to finances. I think he came down to that. He saved them more money now. Mark volley of the athletic recently went on ninety three seven the fan in pittsburgh and said that he does not feel the steelers going to put money back into the team. I kind of disagree with that. I disagree with that for a couple of reasons number one. I think they already had about three million dollars in cap space. That's important to know. Prior to cutting steven nelson steven nelson gets cut. Now at eight million more simple math tells you that's eleven million dollars now when you have eleven million dollars you can sit on it. You're gonna need about three million to sign your draft picks yet you're gonna have to pay out injuries and things like that but they could still go out there and find someone they could still go out there and find a free agent. I'm pointing to the center physician mainly saying if they could just find a center there still are some serviceable centers out there on the open market. They could just find the center and they could be on their way to really shaping this team really and i said it before. I said it on my monday. Show if you missed it go back and check it out my. Let's ride podcasts on monday. I actually liked the way. This team is starting to take shape. I really do people want change in. You're getting it but sometimes it's not the change that you want or necessarily expect that doesn't mean that it's bad change. Sometimes there's change just for the sake change and sometimes there's changed for the better. I think so far. The news made and some of them. You know losing bud depre- losing by hilton losing tyson. Our wallet losing matt feiler. Oh those players. That's not changed that they could control the salary. Cap goes the one eighty two point five. They can't control that.

"But they better pray if they're the praying type that TJ watt stays healthy, because if he goes down, and you have to rely on, bud depre-, and you have to rely on. If chick low and if ally didn't he doesn't take a big step forward. They don't really have Sutton Smith them. We know he's an unknown commodity Helis practicing fullback and tailback just don't know. And so for me, that's, that's a big one, you lose one of those Outside Linebackers, even if it is, bud depre-. I don't think there's a plug and play type player waiting in the wings to come in not like when Joey porter punched a Cleveland Browns player in the face and pre games and that was the, the start of James's Harrison's career. So I'm not suggesting that I don't think they have that so outside linebacker would be one Subba tight ends other side of the football events, damn viz McDonald who let's be honest is not known for his ability. Stay healthy if he gets hurt. Well, then the Steelers are ya? Vizier griddle. Zach gentry come on now. That's bad. That's bad. Now this might actually lead into talking about all these different scenarios in this series in the past where the Steelers typically made some moves prior the season starting thinking about when they got your Hayden off the waiver. Wire think when they God, vast McDonalds, a trade thing about even what few years Dakhla traded for Brandon boykin from the eagles. They've been known to make some moose said, this could this could show you maybe what they're looking for when other teams trim their rosters from ninety two fifty three at the end of the preseason. So tight is one Outside Linebackers. One safety is one. Let's talk about safety death. And that's what I talked about earlier today in the show that was awesome yet, never existed in that is you have Terrell Edmonds who is still a second year player. That's a lot of his plate already. Sean davis. He that Marcus Allen who played I think maybe twenty snaps the entire season last year. Jordan dangerfield. He's been there awhile. Not sure, he's the answer. Someone goes down. And then you have some undrafted rookies PJ lock askew. Henry Doron askew, Henry. Really? That's not good depth. I'll go step further on the defensive side. What about Joe Haden, Joe Haden gets hurt or Steven Nelson at that for that matter? You hope Justin lane is ready. You don't want Artie burns in there. I don't want burns and there, maybe you do already verse. There is certainly Dylan already burns in there and said that makes you question. Okay. But what would they do the cameras that now on the outside? Go sign Cody sensible again. No. There are positions where you're, like, e okay. Now I. Inside linebacker. Now, I think Mark Barron in Devon Bush being on the roster together eases that little bit. But let's think that Mark Barron is the athlete, a Devon Bush's when it comes to speed and athleticism. We'll get a team at the offense side of the football is okay. Let's talk about juju Smith Schuster. Let's he gets hurt. So what is your okay? Dante Moncrieff would be your one James Washington. Ryan, Switzer Eli Rogers, Deontay Johnson, rookie, the Steelers in this is not a Pittsburgh Steelers problem. I don't want people to be listening to me, and thinking, well, Jeff is just kinda down on the team AB the offseason music now. That's not it at all. What I'm say is that the all across the NFL, depth is an issue, and injuries are always an issue the team that stays healthy is usually, the team exceeds..

I think that edge rusher is a higher position that the Steelers would look for than what people realize 'cause you know, who was your big money defensive players guys at sack the quarterback. So if you can get someone else in there, you don't have to have them start right away, which Kevin culprit said today at the press conference that they don't want to have their for frowned or have to start right away could get him in a good rotation at this particular position. Then that way, he looks like he's going to be the guy then you have him in. What you don't have? You could just kinda wave goodbye bud depre- after this year or signed into a backup contract. If you know what I mean and go with it that way, I think he's one of the highest character guys that would be available to them in the first round. "But if I transfer files between PC's, which I do a lot or from a PC to a Nass over like WI fi videos take forever. Transfer especially you know, like right now, we're recording. This this video is going to be probably about fifteen gigs. And then we got married code and bring it down and make it usable for most people. But to do it over the network it takes awhile. Yeah. So if you wanna take that thing onto a laptop and bring it on some on your flight to Ireland or whatever, you know, you certainly have the time to edit some video. It's a miserable process. It's going to take a while. It's gonna take a while which I want to talk to you about Ireland actually at the end of the show. Can I have so many questions for you? Because I I've I have not done this flight in a long time. And the last time I flew overseas was pre internet on phones. On on planes. I Vala depre- internet on phones an planes. Are you flying? You're flying on air Lingus airlinks. Yeah. And have you found out what they offer for? Why have not I have not even looked? They may not. I mean, it's it's over the Atlantic. So is there. I mean, I thought you don't have internet over the ocean. You can get you can get on. Well, that'll change my my my life. If that's the case. And I think this is the benefit of five, gene. And when four G star, it's crazy we've been doing this show for so long four G was just happening. When we started doing this. Our big bet was companies like Verizon files, and optimum and all the cable providers are going to slowly abandon cable and move over to this wireless technology that will be four G. And unfortunately, we were still in this weird capped era where with data caps, and and throttling and all this stuff that was going on and punishing you used too much where now at five G that discussion is not necessarily happening as much and the more the outlook is that this may be the future of at home internet, right? Because if you're the if you're the if you're the pipe provider, isn't it easier to maintain wireless than it is to maintain wires going into people's homes that could be thirty forty fifty years where you are. Less expensive to absolutely. Yeah. And that's what you know. There are many well publicized examples of. Companies promising and then scaling back their emissions with regards to laying down physical wires in remote locations. I the one I always remember his Verizon infamously one this big contract to bring broadband to rural Vermont, and then they got up there. And they like. This is never going to pay for itself. What are we doing? Well, the kind of New York it was supposed to do gun at everywhere. Yeah. Yeah. It's a problem. So yes, it is..

"That second half that consistent pressure every single game where he doesn't go multiple games with very limited production because I think this deep is although the production in the spurts is great. This is a defense debt needs consistent. Production from its Outside Linebackers where every game they're coming out with one and a half to two sacks of peace or one guy's getting two and a half. One guys mixing in one and a half and their county interchanging maybe one game they both get to where this defense is coming out with two and a half to three sacks per game. It may not come from them necessarily, but I wanna see consistent production out of what in depre-. I'm not gonna give back any of it, but I like it just to be more consistent. Let's be honest. "And again, oh my goodness. Please. How stress this enough? I am only a student. I know nothing about the legal or accounting side of this. I'm just sharing with you what I have learned over. The years. The first thing that we obviously have to do is maximize our write offs. And most of the time we do that through business. Obviously, we want to run as many legitimate expenses through our business as possible so that if something can be written off and we don't have to pay tax on it, we will. That's one of the benefits of being a business owner. But there are other purchases that can especially right now serve as expenses which can really benefit us. So for example, as of right now under the fairly new tax law, there are again, I am only sharing what I know please check with someone smarter than me on all of these rules, but there are provisions for equipment equipment can be things like SUV's. So if you want to go buy a fancy vehicle, you can write the thing off under the new tax Bill equipment in some cases could be websites. Which can also cash flow. We'll talk about that on some upcoming episodes equipment can be investments in your company that previously were not able to be written off. These are the types of things that can save you a tremendous amount on your taxes, but increase your lifestyle or even increase the amount of money that you take home. For example, I think buying a website as equipment if that makes money. Oh my goodness to buy an asset and have a beer right off and produce Cashel. That's absolutely crazy what a cool thing that we can do now. Of course, these are available to everyone, but as somebody who cares about this stuff, it's something that we one percenters tend to practice more than others. There are other certain entities and structures where we can either grow our wealth or we can invest our wealth or at least reserves some of our wealth so that it grows or sits tax free. My opinion is that the government usually finds their way to get their money, but if it's possible, I think the best time to pay taxes is later always later because if we can defer taxes than we can buy more depre- Chabal assets later, for example, real estate depreciates, right and real estate depreciates at a fixed rates and an increased rate since the new tax Bill. So we can save more in taxes if we own more real estate. So if we defer more taxes, it means later we can purchase more real estate and ultimately keep that money rather than give it to the government. So I'm of a different opinion than most people when it comes to things like IRAs, I believe in traditional IRA's rather than Roth, IRA's Roth, IRA's. You pay the tax now, but it grows tax free. I'm a proponent of traditional IRA's. We get the right off now. But you pay tax on the earnings because that means I pay the tax later. So I can use the money that I've kept to buy more assets that will give me more write-offs so that I can limit the amount that I will pay the government. There are also other entities I mentioned before the life insurance policies that grows tax free and I can borrow against it. So my wealth will grow in. I can borrow against go by more depreciating assets. So my wealth grows tax free, increase my cash flow by buying more assets, and I'm hopefully going to buy something that depreciates. So I keep more of it in my pocket. There's also something called captive insurance..

"I didn't read the prequel comic, but depre- the prequel calming is the final. The final mercenary job Royce Adrien Brody giving to does before he gets abducted, but you don't see him get a -ducted. Yeah, you see, you see one of the predators from the movie, like observe him. Okay. Right. The actual, the actual. Mechanics of the adoption is still a mystery. Do you say the actual predator itself? The one that does it? Yeah, it's one of the super. He's got a name, I think. Yeah, they all have way, but he just say the specific one. Okay. The falcon. Ah, one now. Now it's the, it's the dog one. I, this is the dogs. Yeah. Okay. Gotcha. So I guess that would mean if that's cannon, then the idea that the trapped there isn't true, that which will it is all the. I went on now. Yeah, but the they specifically went to us to collect PayPal? Yeah. Do you like the the inclusion of the classic predator? Yeah, I think it should never looked better. I agree. He's really good this into right beheadings. Yeah, like the guru in the neck. It's really good. Yeah, that blood that blocked that idea for that floor blood is really good. It's a great idea, but no, I think that's that's the best that they've had a reasonably good. But I like I like the the understanding that they have is like, can we slave this place? Take me on. Rhodes place. Place where I belong Claes. Yeah. Okay. So how do you feel about the cloaking device effect in this boy better? It's better, but it's not who slick, but it's many guests, but it doesn't feel like I don't know because they're totally invisible, and then we get the electric affect and then the visible again, it didn't feel enough to me Loesch not shifty and didn't shoot him shimmery enough. Well, maybe I want to say that that graduated shimmery ethic. It might be the updated, the tech, maybe they did because I talk about that as well. I think we when we say Laurence Fishburne version, it does look different. I thought I was gonna be maybe I'm imagining it remember. Okay. It doesn't like he's okay. So we're talking about this rot. One season launch Schmidt says he's been the ten seasons? Yes, once as in his threes. So he's been thirty is okay. I read somewhere that they said since the Vietnam war, but that would mean joining ninety which doesn't up, right. So let's say, let's say he was..

"I threw this out last it might have been like the super bowl column i wrote when i was just trying to fill it out with random stuff as i crawled to the finish line of last season i had i had suggested they make an aggressive move up to get roquan smith the last time they made an aggressive move in the first round to get someone was troy pull them abu and obviously i i'm not going to say you know they'll go roquan smith and it'll be the the linebacker version of troy polo malo i mean if they if they thought that guy was on the board they should go get them but i mean roquan smith is exactly what they need as sort of the replacement for shadier there so yeah we'll we'll see and they really don't have glaring needs in the short term other than this not at all this is a complete this team is top to bottom it's as good as anyone offensively and i think defensively maybe if you're not a big bud depre fan on the edge you can look for another edge rusher that'll be a need at some point but that's not immediate i think depre can be okay still within the context of their steam i think tj watts going to get better this is this is a no brainer gear it's inside linebackers just a matter of how they go find one yeah yeah so for the sake of exercise they get rashawn evans the linebacker from alabama who i think could end up being a really good pass rusher if they wanna use him in that capacity.
