Russia: Ukrainian drone caused blast far from border, 3 hurt

"Ukraine's government on Sunday, called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to counter what it is called the Kremlin's nuclear blackmail after Russian president Vladimir Putin revealed plans to station tactical atomic weapons in Belarus. One Ukrainian official said that Russia has taken Belarus as a nuclear hostage, but Moscow said it was making the move in response to the west's increasing military support for Ukraine. Putin announced the plan in a television interview that aired on Saturday, saying it was triggered by a UK decision this past week to provide Ukraine with armor piercing rounds containing depleted uranium, Putin argued that by deploying its tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, Russia was following the lead of the United States. He noted that Washington has nuclear weapons based in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and turkey. Russia has stored its weapons at dedicated depots on its own territory and moving part of the arsenal to a storage facility in Belarus would effectively up the ante in the Ukrainian conflict in response, Ukraine's foreign ministry condemned the move, stating that the world must be united against someone who endangers the future of human civilization. US Strikes Iran-Backed Facilities in Syria After Drone Kills American

"Woke up this morning to find out that our military carried out several drone air strikes in Syria yesterday, reportedly killing 8 Iranians. Now, this was in retaliation for a drone strike that Iranian forces conducted earlier in the day on a coalition base that killed one American. Now it was a. UAV crashed into a unoccupied whatever vehicle, but they say it's a drone. All right. Because these drums are huge. Did you see that like when I think of drone? I don't know about you. I think a drone, I think of that little thing that all the kids have at my husband because he's a child, has and it flies up with a little three whirl or is on it and you put the batteries in and that's what I think of. These things are huge. They're big. The one that Russia took down of ours was something what was it 40 $1 million for the cost of that thing? So the Defense Department said that Iran's Islamic revolutionary guard corps crashed one of these drones into a building near in northeast Syria. At about one 30 local time and it left a U.S. contractor dead. And 5 U.S. service members and another U.S. contractor were wounded. It was at an arms depot and that left 6 Iranian backed fighters debt. Now there was a second bombing at a post that killed another two Iranian fighters. Now there's a group called the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. It's a war monitoring group. Would you want that job? I thought about that as some reading this and I'm like, who wants that job? Yeah, you could be the war monitor. I don't think I'm gonna do that. They reported that there was another American strike on a military post near the border with Iraq, but that report has not been independently. Verified. Now,

The Residual Effects of Recent Bank Failures

"At least three banks, two of which have already shut down others, not doing well right now. And it's going to be a bit of a rocky road. My recommendation for you is look, don't panic here. There is no reason to panic. I would say that by and large, most of the people listening to this program do not have more than a quarter $1 million in the bank. So if you, if you have more than a quarter million, well, you might want to be a little concerned. But if you don't, you really don't have much to worry about right now. However, there are some residual effects that are impacting a lot of people. I know here in the Memphis area, there was a very popular local liquor store. They used direct deposit through one of the companies in the Silicon Valley bank and as a result, nobody got their paycheck on Friday. A lot of people using Etsy, you're not getting your money, and that's a big problem for a lot of small businesses right now across the country. So my question to you is whether or not we need to be bailing out banks like Silicon Valley bank. Because there are probably going to be a few more that go belly up before all this is said and done. And I appreciate what Bernie Marcus had to say, one of the cofounders of Home Depot, and he said, hey, look, the problem here with Silicon Valley bank is these folks went woke. When you look at all of the things this bank was doing and typically by and large, they were servicing the tech industry, they're in California. But man were they woke. They were invested heavily in climate change initiatives, LGBT stuff, the sex and gender crowd, it was insane over there. As a matter of fact, they actually had a personal stamp that was in charge of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

"depot" Discussed on The Slowdown

"For 15 years, every Thursday of the fall semester, I went fly from Burlington Vermont to New York City and back to teach a course at New York University. Clearly, I have spent my fair share of days in airport terminals, often heavily bored, awaiting takeoff, headphones on, watching people find their way to their destinations. What almost always startled me was the site of a singular pigeon or sparrow flitting about the terminal ceiling. My concern for my avian brother knew no end. Was the bird lost? Disoriented by the crowds below, rattled by the constant droning of gay agents, I said to myself, they must have gotten off course and separated from its flock. Or it's a loner. Seeking a different kind of sanctuary, one with high end clothing stores, and 6 piece chicken McNuggets. The irony of a small bird trapped in a cavernous airport was not lost on me. Here was the Pinnacle triumph of humankind's efforts to achieve flight. Blemished by the entrapment of the very creature who served as its aerodynamic inspiration. Then, eventually, I noticed something, the bird wasn't at all bothered by its condition. Forgive this moment of pathetic fallacy. It seemed to carry some inherent spirit of endurance and adaptability. Maybe even will. In fact, it even began to chirp a song of dare I say persistence. I thought of Thomas hardy's poem darkling thrush. The songbird who in the dead of winter had chosen thus to fling his soul upon the growing gloom, spawned by some blessed hope whereof he knew. My little guy was entrapped at all. He was bathing in the large water fountain, finding refuge in the artificial tree, foraging for food and the many trash bins. And for good measure, pooping on passengers, in short, a survivor and my sudden inspiration. Today's poem showcases birds who also make do. In a different man-made artificial environment, the massive big box store. Birds and Home Depot December by Richard maxson. They sing, staccato notes, statements that could be queer tree, queer tree, sometimes I see them brown dots on a brown beam. No easy nest here. The spruce branches broken. Straw sequester tight and brooms wrapped in cellophane. Except for the thread bare fall scarecrow. Braced firmly among the color corn stalks and baskets of stipple gourds. I want them to see the irony under the still beams where they hop and fly, searching, the fragments of a home imagined new, repaired, changed. In the garden center, a sparrow contemplates the crocus bulbs, huddled on shelves awaiting spring, under the Canopy that lets in the sky and cool air. I've wandered these owls like today with my scribble list, unable to find a pen for a screen door, a number four brass grew for fan, a summer breeze. What does that weaver know? I wonder, as he tugs at ground, Lillian leaves. And with the torn fragment, flies out the wide open doors..

They've allowed the lawyers for the president, the private lawyers to do all the searching instead of allowing the FBI. Once they knew there were classified documents, that's a crime per se. There should have been FBI agents conducting all of those searches. But Merrick Garland decided no, we want to allow his lawyers to do the searching and then they allowed some government lawyers to go with them and then they allowed The White House counsel to go. "Prosecutors have detailed suspicious activities by the husband of a missing woman. Brian Walsh of cohasset Massachusetts was arraigned Monday in Quincy and held on half a $1 million bond on a charge of misleading investigators. His wife, Anna, a mother of three, was last seen January 1st when she was purportedly traveling to Washington, D.C., for her job at a real estate company, prosecutors say Walsh attempted to delay investigators when he failed to tell them about his visit to a Home Depot, captured on surveillance video on January 2nd when he bought $450 worth of mops, buckets, tarps, tape, and other items, Walsh's cell phone data shows he traveled to the areas of Brockton and abington while he was supposed to be on home confinement, awaiting sentencing on a federal fraud case involving the sale of fake Andy Warhol paintings, a broken knife, and blood was also found in the basement of the couple's home. "Super easy. And convenient. Can you tell us about the security layers you have in place? So let's say the folks use your app and your wallet. Is it a self hosted wallet? And are you cussing with, let's say, a coinbase custody tell us about those security layers? Yeah, totally. That's a good question considering the circumstances today. Well, we have always focused on never custody, customer funds. Because we knew things like FTX and other situations would happen. There's always a possibility you could be hacked in some sort of way. We never wanted to take that risk. So it's an entirely self custodial wallet, the Bitcoin depot wallet. Now, if somebody wants to come use a Bitcoin ATM, using the coinbase wallet and way to transaction, they can do that. But that's not what we recommend. We recommend using our wallets so you're always in control of your own crypto. If something happens to Bitcoin depot, we go out of business, file bankruptcy, whatever the case may be, somebody hacks us your Bitcoin and your Bitcoin depot wallet is safe as long as you never gave your username and password and private key to somebody else. That's great. I mean, I think to your point, after this whole FTX collapse, even Celsius and BlockFi and so forth. People, there was a big rush to get self hosted wallets, even hardware wallets. And that's, you know, the mantra that was said years ago, especially by a lot of bitcoiners that not your keys, not your coins. I think rings true again here, and I think hopefully people learn from the situation, but it's great that you guys are using a setup where folks control their own coins. Yeah, it was good timing for us. Now, as far as when to transactions done, let's say I scan the code and all that I get my I convert my cash to Bitcoin, is that Bitcoin instantly available or is there like any lag time where I can withdraw it if I wanted to move it or send it to somebody? It's the same lag that you would have sending Bitcoin from any wallet to another wallet. So every every wallet may require a confirmation, for example, on the Bitcoin network from the miners until it's actually spendable. So it could be ten minutes until you could go rescind it, spend it somewhere else potentially. A kind of weird question for you, and it's something I've been thinking about for years. And I've talked to quite a few folks about it, and that is, there are different demographics in the world, right? It goes without saying, there's different people, different walks of life, who are familiar with different levels of technology. And they trust different things. Whether it be trust banks, they trust ATMs or exchanges. So could you tell us a bit about the demographic that uses the Bitcoin ATMs and, you know, who are they, especially like in the United States, are they like the older folks who are, hey, I know how to use an ATM, I could buy some Bitcoin on this. It's called the great reset global elites and the permanent lockdown. What do you say in this book that we wouldn't know just from generally watching the news? Well, the biggest thing, I think the simplest way of explaining what the great reset is and what the thrust of this is is our entire world changed in March of 2020. And what happened then with these COVID lockdowns, it was in eye opener to not only to the rest of the world, but to the progressives and to the global leaders in charge because to them it was like, wow, this was easy. They basically scared the public enough to issue emergency decrees globally, almost every country. And then by issuing these decrees they bypass democracy and they imposed everything from school closures to church closers to business closures to mask mandates to stay at home orders to curfews, to vaccine, all without democracy without a vote.

Darren Beattie Weighs in on the Importance of Elon Owning Twitter

"Elon Musk has said that Apple has threatened to remove Twitter from the App Store, prompting many to say that Elon Musk should create his own apple, his own smartphone. So what do you think? Well, I think it's a very interesting development. And again, not to pat myself on the back or give kudos to revolver news, but we've done a lot of amazing stuff I'm proud of and the Elon piece that we did and now classic piece, which incidentally it came out. There was a court proceeding and it came out in the discovery process, I believe, that Elon's text that he was actually reading and discussing this very article, which is kind of an interesting and welcome surprise. But what's interesting about this piece that's titled battle of the century. Here's what happens if Elon Musk buys Twitter. This ran April 1st of this year. And so this piece came out before it was even public that Elon was considering purchasing Twitter, let alone the whole kind of drama of, oh, was he going to do it or not? He ultimately went through with it. And then the question was, would he restore free speech or not? But this lays this games out the entire situation before it was even public that he would get Twitter, let alone the temp to restore free speech. And so it really gains out what would happen based on a fundamental understanding of what Twitter is and what media fundamentally is at the highest level. And that is that basically now people are starting to learn Twitter is not an ordinary company. Elon purchased it for like 44 billion, which seems like a lot, but ultimately for what it is, the global public square, where narratives are formed, where things go viral, where opinions are shaped from journalists, political actors, it's the theater of public diplomacy and what's called hybrid warfare these days. And that the 44 billion price tag which seems high actually belies the actual significance of Twitter. And just as a thought exercise, Home Depot, a great company, I respect for the company, but as a vastly higher market cap than Twitter, even at Elon's price, and yet the question of who controls Home Depot is far less critical than the question of who controls Twitter, precisely for Twitter's unique role in shaping, managing information flows at a global scale. And that's precisely the reason why it's actually true when the regime authorities and their proxies in the media say that what Elon's doing with Twitter is a national security threat because our regime what I call the global American empire is simply unsustainable outside of a protocol of complete censorship and information control.

"So this idea that you're on the one hand, but when you think about when you arrive at the depot and you receive 30, 40, 50 packages, there's two things that are important, right? And when you look for metrics specific one is, you need to get out of that depot as quickly as possible because not because necessarily of your time, but there's a lot of other people and this depot operations is a bottleneck, right? So you need to go in in and out as quickly as possible from a last mile operational perspective because there's only so many slots available in the morning when people pick up packages. So making that process quickly as possible is one. One sort of key metric. The second one is the last mile operator. You really key that everyone confirms that that scan that they took ownership of this packages so that when afterwards the picket is missing, oh it didn't get delivered, you can trace that back and go and say, well, you're delivery driver. You pick up that package. I have to have your idea. So I know you picked it up. So what happened? So you have accountability about that ownership transfer happened. You want from the package that was signed to a driver that actually ended up in the van. And then you as a driver, you want instructions on is that package now is that early in the route is that late in the round so you can check it appropriately in the van on the car. You're not putting the items that are very early on your route all the way down in your track and then you get unload all the different packages to go and get to them. So you get that information. So it's different difference in tensions and sort of an objectives aligned, right? Ownership transfer routing and in and out in that depot as quickly as possible. And that augmented reality technology that I think very accurately described helps to make that process faster and helps to support these different objectives that I just mentioned. Yeah, one kind of closing note on this so it's great to be able to get this visual and to understand how we play into the workflows at hand. Many of us have not worked at a depot at any point in our lives who are listening in on the show, but to know how they operate and the complexity of what loading and unloading looks like, it's helpful to see, okay, where would this fit in and why would this be adopted? A little bit of a question just to paint a more complete picture in the mind of our listeners as we wrap up is around what this looks like in practice. Obviously you guys are rolling this out with a number of clients here. When we've seen different computer vision technologies rolled out, sometimes it has involved a bit of a change to the environment or how we do things so that they're more visually accessible because we weren't depending on vision before. So you and I talked in another episode about checking inventory levels in the retail store, some retail

"All the secrets. I can help you with that. Just follow me around. And I'll just think out loud and they can write whatever they want. Yeah, yeah. No, I'll just send you more questions to think about. But it was such a pleasure hearing more about your process. I feel like I'm even more obsessed now with you because you hit on the sustainability piece and it just is so much more than makeup and I love that that's also something that you're really passionate about, I think. And this superficial industry that's so fast. It's just, it's sometimes it's good to slow down and really assess where you're at. Think about things, the methodical, and you have an amazing gift. I can't wait to see this blow up in a good way. Yeah, so guys, lastly, there's not a ward for the amount of makeup your brain or who has the best stuff, no job will be worth your health. So when you're career and because everything hurts, you know, I mean, life will move on without you. So the goal is to take care of you. So you can do this longer. At the same time, take care of your clients and your livelihood. But keeping your stuff clean and organ. I mean, I don't know a better formula than an organized. And you can help with the organized part. It's our jobs as makeup artists to be clean. And of course. A lot of us just need ideas. A lot of people tend to copy, but when it's always work, it has to work for the way you work. I love that. I love that. Thank you so, so, so much. I've been a link everything that you talked about, all the resources, and then maybe some pictures of your work and your love your beautiful hands and some of the kits that you have departed on that include those in the show notes. And then, of course, you guys can get on the waitlist for all of the glasses and maybe you're going to have her do your kit that'll be awesome and then the bags for makeup and relevant all of the all of the things. You're just all over the place. Thank you so much, Chris Shawn. Thank you for having me. It was a pleasure. We'll do it again. Well, after we get all of these things out there, we will. That's right. Given update, because hopefully the industry will make some changes. Okay. See you guys again next month. Bye everyone. Hi..

"So hopefully that all gets addressed because if people are doing this all over the world, the brands have no choice but to listen. We need a deep hot shop like army of people that you train that can go out and do this work. You are doing amazing work and I am going to link all of those things in the show notes. I guess everybody can find you on Instagram at chakra, and then of course deploy Chopra dot com. And yeah, is there anything else that you want to share? I feel like I want to ask just a fun question. Are there any makeup products? Because I know you said you don't deploy skin care, but is there like just the most beautiful makeup product with the most beautiful packaging that you're like, this is so well thought out and pretty you should leave this is like a statement piece. Like right now, not a vintage one for me, no. No. So you would look good if it deserves to be in your kit. She will be the pardon. However, there are a few items that are to be left alone because they're very fragile, plus they're light and small anyways, not wasting that much space anyway. Plus they look pretty, you know? Which is the fetal blushes. They're so pretty. You know, there's more than one color in the pan. If that makes sense. And then things are embossed. And the brand is engraved. Usually those things are fragile. If you're not a pro, leave them alone,.

"Basically. And then also when you reach that level, your plants might have time should know what brands you're using in the first place. I think for those of us in the industry, when I see it in a lot of different groups and forums, people are always concerned with, well, if I Tom Ford, eyeshadows, then nobody's going to know it's Tom Ford. And I think part of as we roll our eyes were like, it's not about the name brand, but then there's that recognition. So that's where our people that know Tom Ford are the ones that matter. And they will know what Tom for shadows look like. It looks a certain way. You know, it's undeniable. It's time for. The brands embedded on time. Let's do some juicy talk because you condense, you condense Sir John's kid, Fiona styles. I know you said that it's just all makeup to you, but were you a little bit kind of it's like in their closet, I feel like you're in their personal closet..

"Whether you are a makeup artist or not. One thing is true, our skin care and makeup products take up a lot of space. As a personal traveler, it's comical how much we downsize our skin care and makeup bags as to not have to check in a bag or pay for luggage. We go to extreme lengths to condense our products into a tiny quart size plastic baggie. Heck, one of my most popular episodes of all time is my personal guide to packing for leisure travel. And for those of us makeup artists, we have to be prepared for just about anything and everything. And our kits get real heavy, real fast. Plus, we sometimes work with little to no counter space. So any opportunity we have to make our kids lighter and more efficient, the better. I first learned of Christian roof, also known as depot Chopra on Instagram. During my interview with the multiple Emmy Award winning makeup artist, Melissa street, when I asked her how she prepares her kit for a film or large production, she told me just follow gross and I did. At that moment, after seeing Grisham's work, I knew I wanted to invite her on the show and interview her on her meticulous and mesmerizing and kit splitting process. Aside from being an accomplished makeup artist, she is also become an accomplished kit curator. She is downsized some of the most famous makeup artists kits ever to include Beyoncé's makeup artist or John Rihanna's makeup artist, Priscilla, oh no, Ariana Grande's makeup artist. Michael Anthony and many more. And don't worry, I'm going to ask her about what that was like in the interview. Rashan is also had big collaborations namely with Myo cosmetics. A household name in the makeup artist world. And I want to ask her what's yet to come in her process and her product line. So whether you wear makeup artists and aspiring makeup artists for simply curious and how to downsize your kit or kit split, you're in for a real treat. So without further ado, I'd like to welcome Grisham roof onto the theater.

"Yeah i saw the other ones plug before kind of seeing it from the road where they plugged everything. I'm not. i'm not a huge fan of that. But if you have to you have to do it. And you're not gonna find a whole lot of anymore but most of the time when you get into a situation like that people are Opening up the walls rewiring plumbing air sealing and then and then applying the installation putting the drywall backup broker or well. Thank you all right. Great question thanks for the call. All right rick off and here comes thomas. good morning thomas here on the home depot. Home improvement show. How are you this morning. That mona i have a quick question. I won't be able to hold on. This is from south carolina we just recently had Some new shingles our house and after they put it on. We noticed that the conditioner runs all the time. It wants more than it did when they first changed. Did you change colors. Yeah what did you go darker. Yeah we went docker. That's that's the answer okay. He gained home whole the whole thing. Yes draws at two draws at to the roof just it. it doesn't it doesn't just like a black darker. colors do not reflect as much light. They don't reflect as much heat. And so when the sun hits it's holden heat whereas a light shingle reflect back every time. Yeah it does. Make sure the ventilation is good on the attic Did they put a ridge. Vent on you got to replace the one in with new ones all up and make sure you can see daylight up through there that they didn't just put tar paper. Felt over that it's been known to happen. Okay i'll check it and intake so Thomas check the intake around the perimeter of the house with the lights off. See if you can see daylight coming in at the eaves and make sure that they closed off. If you have gable events Either triangle or square events in the gable ends of the house. make sure that they close those off. Because if they didn't the ridge vent won't work properly. okay. I do notice that with the way the house bill over the garage. Only one cent there on that wall of i guess what a what a copy you. Yes exactly what's going on around the house it just one day over the garage okay. So you don't you don't want that needs to be closed off and you need to have softened vince so on the flat portion where the roof ends up underneath there should be a continuous vent or rectangle some type of square vents or rectangle vents. All the way around the house more intake with less exhaust is better. Okay okay on the front portion of the porch they do have those at at the end of the rue. You'd underneath white vent. Yes yes just make sure you if you can go in the attic. Make sure you see daylight coming in. You need to see at around the perimeter. That's the best way to get your ventilation okay. I thought maybe they had to do something wrong. But i did notice running more thought running longer. Yeah well it's good if it's running longer. It's good for it to do it thomas. We're going to go to break. But if you have any more questions you can send us a note at our website. Asked john dave dot com. There's a questions but just hit that and fill in the form in. We'll be glad to help you apple question. Good i do appreciate you. Welcome thomas appreciate your call all right. It is time for a break folks with the people home improvement show with john and dave. You can call us at seven four five seven eleven town. We've got some lines open. David pointed out. You can go to ask john. And dave dot com. Click on the questions button and send us a note that way sometimes get a little more detail from you and give a little more detail in return when you do with that way no matter how you slice it we're gonna come back with ideas and thoughts driven by you from your phone calls and by us from what lies beneath. We will do all of that when we return to the home depot. Home improvement show with john. Dave welcome back. This is the home depot. Home improvement show jonah dave. I'm john gordon. I'm dave deauville. We've got some lines open right now. We're at seven four five seven over eleven ten and seven four five seven. Oh eleven ten. We're talking about what's important to you but we're also kind of hanging with the theme. What lies beneath talking about surface. Prep substrates structural. We've kind of touched on a lot of different aspects of it real quick. I wanted to round remind folks to check out our home depot product of the week. It's a really simple deal. It's and it keeps our theme of what lies beneath and it's the bear ultra pure white. Well doesn't have to be ultra pure white but it's the bear on scuffed offense and it's sustained blocker and primer. All in one in a bear scores. Really really high marks on all those fronts. Since i was kinda slick to have the stain blocker as part of the which is different from a primer as part of the paint and it's not super expensive. It's about thirty three to thirty five bucks a gallon depending on where you might be so great. Great product I am a bear fan. Not because i worked for the home depot but because i've seen the blind tests and i've used the products and i've spoken to the professionals who use it as well so so good stuff check it out right now. We're gonna talk to mark. Good morning mark. You're on the home depot home from how are you good morning. I'm questions about driveways. I live in the country. And i have a gravel driveway When i bought the house it was that way. It's pretty much washed out now because my property slants down from the road to the house. Okay anytime it rains it just kind of wash all the scrabble away. I'm curious number one. What can i do if i saw more gravel. What could i do to keep that gravel from washing away as bad or if i went to concrete or pavement which those two would be recommended. Maybe four reasons well david. There's lots of things we talk about. It would be like drainage.

"Diy ours to help people to be like okay. What's your project okay. You can rent this. You're going to need this. You know and doing it in a way where you don't feel like you're being screwed over. Yeah i mean i. I tend to frequent home depot. I think more often than lows. I don't know that. I would consider myself loyal to one or the other i think typically just kind of boils down at geography where i am on whatever given day but i feel like in either case. I'm always very happy with the service. I receive at those stores like. I feel like there's always someone nearby someone who's relatively well schooled in in in the questions. I'm asking into your point. I mean they are their anniversary. All of these big investments they made in the workplace right when cove hit and things had to change so quickly. You know they're starting to see this expense structure normalized now and i think that's going to be encouraging in in the coming quarters in years because i don't think we're going to be going back to doing certain things the way they were done before. I mean i think they're going to be certain certain there's going to be certain safety protocol and whatnot that that has been implemented over the last or some of the stuff is going to stick some of some of. It's going to stay for for good reasons. And i think companies that have been made these investments so early and committed to it. You're definitely starting to see them benefit from it now in. I think that is as time goes on. You know we set up before. Typically the strong companies come out of periods of time like this even stronger and into my eye. Home depot has absolutely In that conversation. I mean it feels like they're coming out of this even stronger than they were before. And that's really saying something going back to the size of the company like you you you were talking about earlier. I mean that that dividend. I don't think is going anywhere in in so i think that this is one of those companies. The longer you on the shares more makes sense jason moser. Great talking to you. Thanks for being here. Thank you as always people on. The program may have interested in stocks. They talk about on the motley fool man formal recommendations for against but by herself stocks based on what you hear. "Listen to your customers the better off you're going to be in the long run. It doesn't mean you always give your customers exactly what they are asking for. But in this case a finance company people asking about a financial instrument. It makes sense for them to have the offering. Yeah yeah you're right. I mean it's it's sometimes customers don't even necessarily know what they want or what they need and so i think that's. That's you're right there. I think that's a place where they they need to be careful in in exactly what they're delivering but there's no doubt they listen to their customers and try to deliver what folks feel like. They feel like they need in again. I mean sometimes when it comes to financial services. I mean a lot of times. Folks don't necessarily really know what they need. And i think that's what that's why it's so important for so fi to continue focusing on the the educational side as well but again i mean they make it so easy right. They had such a tremendous digital presence tremendous mobile presence and up in and they are they're tackling a lot of different problems underneath that one big umbrella which i think should serve him well while for anyone who had so fi on their watch list Good news it's now fifteen percent cheaper than it was last tuesday morning. Home depot is gonna come out with second quarter results. And i don't want to get anyone's hopes up. But the last four quarters home depot has posted profits by an average of more than ten percent higher than wall street was expecting. And the reason you shouldn't get your hopes up is despite stock isn't really lighting the world on fire. I mean it's about sixteen percent over the past year. That's that's good. That's nothing to sneeze at but this seems like one of those businesses and maybe it's a function of how big they are three hundred fifty billion dollar market cap that set your expectations accordingly. If you're a shareholder yeah. I mean i think this is just one. Where slow and steady wins the race right. I mean home depot is not a. It's not a stock for someone who's looking for an idea that it's going to double over the course of the next five years. I mean that's the likely not the it's not it's not the likely.

"It from the comfort of your home own home as opposed to having to go to the theater. So they're folks that are focusing more bringing that theater like audio experience into their home. That's absolutely something that on us. As good at and then the third pillar they quote as the great reshuffling. And it's it's people becoming more flexible. Were not tied necessarily to our workplace anymore and that workplace doesn't dictate where we live. And so now. I mean you just you see folks who are able able to kind of go wherever and do whatever and in much like the content that we get you know wanting it to be on our terms when we wanna listen to it where we wanna listen to one. We wanna watch it when you know where we wanna watch it. I mean that's something that certainly plays into the the product lineup. The that sonos is coming up with so that will help them. Continue to deliver. I think new products new ideas new ways of delivering the audio content. That they're so well known for we'll keep watching sonos. I want to go back to last week for a second. Because s-o-f-i came out with second quarter earnings after the closing bell on thursday. And for those who don't know so fi is a an online personal finance company. They went public late last year. The stock fell fifteen percent the next day. And this seems like one of those reports. That's kind of a rohrschack test because if you're a bear you can point to the loss. They posted and their guidance wasn't all that great. If you're a bull you can say well look the. The loss wasn't as bad as it looks on the surface because there were some accounting corks at play and they are getting closer to getting a national bank. Charter when you look at their report their guidance and what happened with the stock. What do you think. yeah. I mean i. Generally speaking i think was a good quarter. I mean management exceeded their own expectations It feels like the key to success in. This area is bound to really two things having strong brand equity and then also having that strong mobile slash digital presence and those are two things that so fi is doing really well at and so to me. This is a company. That's release sort of shaping the financial services industry for an entire new generation. I mean they're not the only ones doing it. But it's these types of businesses that are really shaping up this this this.

"Bought the house five years ago. lot of organic matter in between the bricks. I'm not sure what was originally put together but So i got a power washer pink out. All of their rennick maxine. I power washed adverts. Putting poly stan down. What it down Didn't master along giving you set very well so not sure of material or not or out. I kind of put something in there that will know. Keep your organic matter out and David i think americ- san yeah that's the that's the easiest thing use it. Sounds like that's what you installed. Is that right. Yeah okay yeah so you have to. It has to be deep enough to when it goes in there so if you washed out the grooves after you pressure washed it if they would've been washed out little deeper If you just put that sand on top you really don't get enough bonding action on the sides of the brick. Normally you know you that stuff down in there Several inches please. Vibrator actually have played tamper to drive into the joint you you. it's actually. The best way is vibrated. In make a shield that you can put over the vibrate and i don't know if you've seen those john i have not. It didn't matter for what i was doing but So yeah so you just keep it clean and the anytime you can keep pressure washing it. It's it's better But just you know even just a regular hose with decent pressure will tend to wash that that sand off So you have to give it a little bit deeper. You're going to have to go in there and wash it in. I think maybe at least a quarter to half inch deep to get to get a better bond certain brand or certain typically you know i. I don't know that there's one that's better than the other sure. There is in the field. I'm trying to think of Pave stone johns. I think. I think pave stones is what i just went to the home depot and and bought the buckets that they had there. And and that's what i use. And i used to play tamper. I really did. Kevin though odd blew out those cracks. Big time right you could see down into the joints and then i. I've swept the sand in tampa in swept. Swept sweats more in talented in. And then you missed it to to start the curing process back. I appreciate it. I good luck and then and then Keeping up with that. If you just keep some type of an algae or or or mildew killer and spray that across once in a while. It'll it'll it'll help you. It'll keep you for making have such a big mess all at once harper army. Thanks kevin the other the other piece of that is just ceiling it right using the for pavers s but But ceiling that. So that when you come back and things are looking a little bit thirty you can use just regular water hose and a little bit cleaner and probably just a push broom and and you can. You can clean it back up again without having to get super aggressive with the pressure. Wash right we're going to be close to a break but toms out there with hvac question. Let's let's at least the get the question and then we'll take a break and come back and answer your question tom. You're on the home depot home improvement show. How are you good morning. Seven four five seven seven ten seven four five seven. Zero eleven ten gives call. We're talking home improvement. Water-saving right now Just in light of some of the things going on in the country but Good good practices in and been so. We'll talk about any questions that you might have relative to that david. Our home depot product of the week ironically is is a waterfall faucet. Actually it's a shower head And it's delta product called let me see into intuition and it's i n the number two. It iowan and you know it's the marketing geniuses at work and it's It's to shower heads. It's like a shower head. That's mounted and then you know how you have. A hand held one. It's integral with the shower head. And then you pull it out and i like it for for a couple reasons. Number one is it's water sense product. And we're gonna talk a minute about some of the challenges of the original. You know water saver products. And and i think it would never happen on this show but there was a show On a radio station in a galaxy far far away where occasionally the hosts would explain how to defeat the water saver system. That's really not even necessary anymore. But but this so you get the kind of. I just wrote down because you know i'm a wannabe marketing guy. It's extravagance without being extravagant. You get that full shower. I like the full on shower. I don't like feeling like. I don't know i need water in the shower so you get it And and you don't have to do anything to mount that extra piece to the law When we needed to do Some stuff from my parents and they needed to have the hand held for the for the nurse and so on we i. Didn't they had a child wall. I didn't go through and redo everything. I just put the two in one end. And now you've got a pull out that you can pull down. And what i like is the price is right. If you've purchased a lawsuit lately you know that. That's you know another second mortgage sort of investment not you hyperbole but but you can get these things from as little as sixty nine sixty four dollars or you can go all the way up to one hundred eighty two bucks depending on finish and stuff like that so so that's it. That's our home depot product of the week delta's intuition to and one shower love it. That's my story. And i'm sticking to it. Cool that it lines up with our conversations about about saving water. Let's talk david. Learn things One of the things it was on here on that little list that i was running down was a glass of water and it said point six to five gallons now. I'm not a math wizard but it that's just a little better than a half a gallon right right. So so a two cohorts is a half a gallon. So it's more than two quarts of water. I don't know about you. But i haven't had a glass held more than a court since college so that why would they say a half a gallon for a glass of water. Well i'm assuming for the day i know per glass. Wow i don't know. I know i had to think about it. How long do you run the water to get cold right. Yeah i guess that's true so and and so you want sixteen ounces of water you're gonna run at least that or maybe double that to get cooler water in the tap. Won't i was getting out of the refrigerator. Do about that date. There's david dove live right. So that's that's just a good best practice right. I like cold water also. I grew up in chicago right. You turn that tap water on summer. Winter fall they were pulling it from the bottom of lake michigan and it was cold. And you know down here not so much So i do. I keep Bottle in the in the In the refrigerator and even at work. I have a little mini fridge. And so if i want cold water out put in there. Keep a cold and swap it out so So that that was just too good Best practice and at begs. The question that you and i have address many many times which is getting hot water to the shower. Oh yeah right so if if if for if four sixteen ounces a big glass normally maybe even eight ounces but let's just say for sixteen ounces of water you're burn through twice that it's it's a lot so member the the shower was five gallons per minute so for takes you if it takes you. Three minutes and three minutes is not a lot of time to get water from the from the heater to the far end of the house for your shower. You're.

Yeah since we're trying to figure out why would have expanded at that rate in this application he had but you're that makes great sense makes good sense. Tom and i was i was. I was a glazer for years. Okay so you know all right so so does that would be. That would be the most sensible thing. Yeah yeah yeah. I would say that president all correctly the door itself. Yeah i think it had been there for a long time. Something changed something had to have changed a lot of times. I'll see a doors i've had a couple of this past week that i looked at in The the doors th the storm doors are in bad shape because they've been used so much hinges or worn out but the doors are are getting rotten and in the they're they're saddling and that could possibly be a situation that these folks could have had but of course there storm doors have it broke But this guy's is inside of Inside of an airlock. So it's it's it was kind of. That's what was throwing us off as what what would have caused metal. It had to be a metal contact in order to do that. Got it. so that's all we can. That's all we can figure so great. Call thanks tom. Tom appreciate your call. Sir thomas glazier so he would know. Yeah mean i know. I know exactly what he's talking about. Just how did that happen. Didn't seem like yeah. Scenario was such that that would be typical or prevalent but mysterious thing that so stranger things stranger things okay. I think we're we're a minute away from having to say goodbye so we'll do that folks just a quick reminder that and lots of times during the show will recommend that when additional details come up you can send us a note ask jonah dave dot com click on the questions button and and we can get into a little bit more detail. You can send pictures things that that help. Explain the scenario more and vice versa. And david does all of that work david. Many thanks for no worries. Hey wanted to say hi to madison ellie. They wanted me to talk about them. Pop loves you all right. Good call this. Another two hours gone by great appreciation for all of our listeners. "Us a call. Seven four five seven. Oh eleven ten seven oh four or five seven seven ten just a quick reminder of the home depot product of the week Great tool. It's the milwaukee mateen m twelve Six inch pruning saw. It's like a mini chainsaw. Rock our bat self and be safe all right We were there. we're talking peck say pecs. Go ahead it is a. It's a it's a diy friendly solution Certainly easier and easier technique to develop than sweating copper. Well i think so. No i mean. I like copper. Don't get me wrong. There's there's nothing like copper. But i think the other the other pipes You'll see a pvc now. You can't use pvc with hot water right so you have to use cold water. Also has pressure can have pressure issue. So you have to be careful what you're using need to make sure you stay with the schedule forty if you're just running cold water But see. pvc is has the capability of running hot and cold water through it but the problem with that is you gotta wait for the glue setup right. So there's there's issues with that so maybe it's simple In in its quick packs. I think it's more flexible. I i think anybody can learn how to use it. And it's more freeze friendly. It is because it expands. It'll expand and come back without bursting now. You don't want to test that theory or or be careless in an application and stuff but it is if if you have two houses one with copper or three with copper one with pvc or cpc along with texts and they all hit. Nineteen degrees for protect protracted period of time. The pecs house wins right. Yes yes it's going to hold now. The fittings may not fair as well but but the pex pipe itself which is usually wh what's exposed And then you know. There are some issues with some brands of packs In the the biggest thing is to make sure that you don't connect directly to a water heater. I see that often supposed to be at least eighteen inches away. It's even better if you can do it. Further but eighteen inches is the minimum That you can be within a water heater The water tends to be too hot. Especially if you're at my house because we keep it really hot it'll split the pipe It's not. It's not good for it. So i can take. It can take extreme temperatures but keep it away from that Try to try to watch the turns. And the ben's with it it will actually collapse if you've been to too far Try to use the fittings when you can but if you can make big sweeping turns with it and it doesn't matter than It's pretty pretty forgiving. And it's a lot easier to pull that pipe into walls It's it's great for retrofits It's just a good product. I like it and and the other thing is is i. i've i've seen a lot of the brass fittings and i think it's just certain manufacturers but they have a phenomenon called zinc vacation and So essentially what's happening is the zinc is being pulled out of the brass. It's it develops a pinhole and they start to leak so probably stick with the plastic fittings at this point so far. I don't think there's a problem with chlorine degrading these fittings. But you know we're the guinea pigs. Unfortunately that's the way it works so you said something that makes me want to ask a question so plumbing at the water here mean. Aren't you supposed to have like die. Electric fittings at that point. Or is that just where you've got Arm electric and in the risk of where. Well yes in where you're changing where you're changing Material materials so there's galvanized nipples normally Or fittings female or male at the water heater. So you want to have something That will that will seal their. But we'll we'll Not not corrode so a lot of the fittings are stainless steel. So what you have or the flexible Stainless steel fittings. That go on there. That could be copper. That can be whatever but The main thing is to make sure that you're not introducing plastic directly to the water heater who not a good not a good thing not call cooking with the plastic pen. Maybe not a good plan. All right david. I have exhausted. Gone down my list. I've checked off everything that i said. I wanted to make sure we talked about or spoke about is there. Is there anything email. You hit on a debbie note for matthews about cleaning grout. So she said that. The what's the best way to clean mold mildew in the shower grout line The grout used supposed to be mildew resistant but over time proven otherwise Said i've used normal products like tilak but it does it remove it permanently. That's because the roots of the mold are down in the grout Debbie so the best thing is is is to remove that grout And you say the grout lines. So i'm assuming john she's talking about maybe at where where the wall meets the shower paying whether it's tile or fiberglass pan that area technically is not supposed to be grounded. You really supposed to talk that supposed to use a color match. Caulk and then it's it's it's you have to replace that every really every so often within a year or two you'll be cutting that kach out and replacing it. It's it's Degrades as what happened so eventually water gets behind. It gets into the cock no matter. What kind of cocky use it'll get moisture behind it. It'll grow molded it'll show through We see that or hear that a lot. John about folks that can't Get the get the the the mold out of the grout or out of the cock. That's because it's behind it and it's shining through but in case it normally you've killed the surface bold but you have not killed the roots right and and just when you say matching clock you can actually get a sanded. Caulk so if you've got sand and grout you don't have to have an aesthetically displeasing scenario where now you know. You've got something that looks different than the rest of the grouch. You can actually get sanded out for sandercock and everything matches up. So let's see if we can get a. Tom might have answered for the storm door. Let's see what he has to say. Hey tom your home. Depot's homer premature expands and it wasn't Hume drake okay. There wasn't any rubber in between the metal and stuff so it expanded metal in tempered glass just brakes automatically what say metal especially on the corner yet..

"And they told us that we probably have too big of a unit in and it's five years old and so even even if they replaced it tomorrow They can't get any until january they said and trying to figure out oh and they said they could put a dehumidifier on the system but that it. This house is thirty. Five years old and that it would be a lot of work as far as redoing the ducks and Boxing them in aulad. And so we're just trying to figure out what do in the interim there david. I'm sorry go ahead. I was just say sometimes the answer is they'll dump a little bit of that cold air out they'll dump it in the attic or crawlspace usually have to do some other things but if you can get rid of some of that that that extra cold air that it's that that it's making It's not going to satisfy. The the thermostat is quick. I think another trick is they can sometimes move the thermostat o away from the return sometimes maybe raise it higher off. The floor would be temporary until you did. Change that unit out down the road but but maybe talk to them about the doing a couple of those things and that that may alleviate some of the problem it's costly to to to cool that air and then dump it but it's not any more costly than you happen to run those dehumidifiers. I wouldn't think and deal with mold and deal with mold exactly right. Well we have had the mold cleared out but because it actually put my husband in the hospital last year and so we're more than nervous about it happened in the. Yeah that's why you want that unit running more hours of the day than not is and i'm sure they explained it to you so those are kind of your options to get rid of some of the the cold. I think those are going to be the most inexpensive options that that you have. Okay so just ask him about. I know what you said about the where to put the thermostat but about dumping the cold somewhere else. Yes so if you're on a crawlspace sometimes you can close up the crawlspace and dump that cold air into the crawlspace. But you can't mix the hot outside air with because then you'll have a problem in in the crawlspace now. We don't have a crawlspace okay. So and then the other thing is too you can dump it. You could dump some in the attic and Could end up being the same. Could have the same some of the same issues and you could. I know that sounds crazy. But they could just dump it outside outside so what. You're basically what you're doing janet. If you're units too big it's it's it's designed to cool more square feet than you've got in so all you're doing is what my father used to accuse us at doing when we were growing up like china air conditioned outside and and so so when you dump a little bit outside the system thinks it's it's it's it's pushing some of that air beyond cool in place controlled by the thermostat and so now it's acting like it's cooling a bigger space at and so now it is more properly sized that makes sense but until then should we just you know. Keep running the dehumidifier. I think you gotta do what makes sense to keep the moisture levels where they need to be. Yes okay well. I appreciate your help. I listen to you a lot but never called in as you called. thanks thank you bye. All right here comes. Ed ed good morning. You're on the home depot. Home improvement show. Are you this morning. I how you doing two quick questions. One is I cut down a few trees around my house a few months ago. And i thought i was done with it. Even those stump grinder guy was here. It's still left. A lot of the trees are the crepe myrtles and the mimosa and they've got tons and tons of routes no the ones by the house. The guy couldn't do anything with because.

"Actually deteriorated. Sir i just took up the plywood and putting new joy in but and to a previous Comment on the front porch is. This has a small front porch concrete and brick which has deteriorated some although it doesn't appear to be grading back to the house for sloping to the house. The joyce continue in that area to They've gotten dark again and In the in the middle of the summertime You know they'll actually get You know wet. The insulation around it will actually get wet or whatnot And and of course the the air conditioning ductwork is up underneath a house. And i've redone. That put the are eight ductwork and whatnot but yet it still sweats a good bit. Of course the temperature is sixty eight degrees in there so it's kept a little bit cooler than exactly says it needs to be but i wondered if there was a Another reason why that portrait just around that coach area now i did put one of the crawl space vents in a draw air through the crawlspace and that appeared to help year or two ago. But you know last year. It didn't appear to help at all so well you may need to and and we were really wet so a couple of things one you wanna try to if there's any moisture in there doesn't sound like there is other than condensation which is not what you're dealing with so you need. You need air movement or you need to to to stop. You need to stop the hot air. From coming in the crawlspace which means a sealed crawlspace. So you would go to a you know. You can do a hybrid. Where you just put a ten mil plastic or six mil plastic cover one hundred percent close the vents and you would install a dehumidifier now where you run into trouble as if that if you have a furnace in there. That's burning fossil fuel you you have to have combustion air so you have a different gas. Pack yeah so it's outside. So you're you're you really could do that if you wanted to. The other thing you could do is just go ahead and do the weather stations as we talked about. And then by yourself a fan and mount a fan in there to help move some air around that porch. Because that's that's what we call a dead area You don't have good ventilation Through that area and a fan would help to move some of that era around. You're not pulling from the outside or blowing out you are. You're just moving air in that crawlspace and if you can keep air. Moving tends to tends to help dry it out. Some and that's that's that's one of the most inexpensive fixes that you can do now. Is that weather station. Is that a hard wire or bluetooth. Can i put you can get bluetooth house or you can get bluetooth. Especially if it's a second home so that you can monitor that from from afar they do have batteries in them so they have to be changed annually Regardless of whether you get a bluetooth or just one that that received transmits and receives in the house. That's that's the kind that i have in. Just replace the batteries once a year unless you need to check it from a remote location exactly three. Yeah and that's something. I can get like at home depot on depot. We'll have them certain types You can get them online So that might be. The best thing is just to go online and search and then get a read and then you can decide where you want to buy it okay. Well i appreciate that very much. Welcome thanks carl. Appreciate your call. William welcome to the home depot. Home truman. show how are you thanks..
