"Brook Water water the way it should be, You know, during the last Call it 15 16 months, The airlines have received just a ton of money literally billions and billions. I don't really know how much money they got. Do you know how much the over what time period Since the pandemic started? I think it's close to 50 50 Billion companies like American Airlines even be more. Yeah, it's it's in the tens of billions, right? And they thought there was you had to keep these airlines running because they're you know, it was a national issue that we needed it for health care and the utility at this point. It's a utility that allows us to. It allows the U. S economy to operate the way that it does did the Airline demand increased faster than they had anticipated. It seems like it well, because you look at the T s a numbers. They're they're pretty high. We're back. Uh, I think it was when we looked earlier this week. Four of the last nine days have been above two million. Now we're at five of the last 11 days have been above two million passengers. On a daily basis. We're still running about 75% of 2019 capacity, but that's without any international travel to speak of right. There's some flights going to Frankfurt and there's some flights going to Toronto, but not very many and minimal business travel. I mean, this basically tells me in my book. That the leisure travel market is 100% back to where it was. So why are these airlines canceling all these flights? Americans can't imagine this folks. American Airlines is canceling 1000 flights just during the first two weeks of July. What's up with that? Mm hmm. Oh, you know you're in trouble. When he goes, there's there's the sigh of I had to take a deep breath. So here's the way that airlines sold this. Hey, if we get this money, we're going to be able to maintain jobs and maintain service and come out on the other side of the pandemic with no problem. And here you are airlines and you're facing a labor shortage after you got you know tens of billions of dollars in money designed to avert said labor shortage and are you negotiating with your unions to pay people more to deal with the labor shortage? No, you're not. Are you going out and saying, Hey, you know, we'll offer you know bonuses to new people in order to get No, it's just well, we can't get everyone hired back as quickly as we want. Why not? You knew this was coming? Well, the flight attendants are saying, Hey, here, See your flight attendant, and you're working out of Boston, right? You live in east Boston. You're getting what 1000 bucks a week. I just exactly where the pay scale is for flight attendants about $1000 a week to stay home. Okay, You're on unemployment, right? 700 plus 300. Well, I don't think the flight attendants are making a lot more. Maybe they are. But I don't know how much a flight attendant makes on American airlines and I guess and it's not a heck of a lot more than 52,000. And I'll tell you Right now is not a time where I would want to be a flight attendant. It seems like every day you've got more videos coming out of fights on planes and stuff like it. It's a bunch of knuckleheads. You haven't been out of their house in the last year, and no one knows how to deal with human beings anymore. Not like we were good at it to begin with. But there's a lot of pent up stress from the last year and I don't think people are handling it. Very well. You're right. There's other instances of it. I mean, look at Yeah. You guys have seen mad? I'm sure you've seen the the guy, the sons and four guy. Yeah, he's become famous. Oh, my goodness. Everyone's taking pictures with him. This was a guy who was at a basketball game between the Denver Nuggets and Phoenix Suns. Guys sitting in the standards. It's at Phoenix. So first of all again, and he's saying, Hey, the sons are going to win this series and four And this Nuggets fan comes in just sucker punches. Oh, yes. And then the sun's fan turns out that he just kicks the crap out of the sky. Really? Yeah, The guy who sucker punched him just has to go with, like all bloody, like all like, you know, just a bad idea. But again, these are sporting events. It's just there's fights at everything right now. It's like soccer. Pretty much Yeah, and hockey? No, The fans at hockey games are quite no. They fight each other. The parents and kids hockey. Yeah, that's Powell. Kids talking. That's a whole different beach as a former hockey coach. We used to seek out Children who are orphans. Did you find many? No, but I looked for them because parents were such a pain in the end we had I still remember before the pandemic, the indoor soccer place that I play at their to send out an email saying that they were going to be turning the scoreboards off because there were too many fights at games. And I emailed the owner of the place and I said, What's the deal with this? Like, what's going on? I mean, yeah, like we play, you know, it's it's adult league and things get a little he goes. No, it's not because of you. We were having fights that use six games with parents who were arguing about the score. Oh, my God! It was because of under six soccer parents. You should have to go to school before you have a child, right? Like they should be like I'm like, Oh, my goodness. I mean, just not the worst thing I have heard under six big doors, retired. Hockey coach, I I would be a big proponent of that coming up. We're gonna be talking about mortgage refinancing demand. Why It's on the uptick and as a matter of fact, will explain to you why you might want to consider refinancing sooner than later..

"Of those teams is eliminate adam. Silver would never. Yeah die. I there is something to be said for that. Ah i'm a little bit scared. But if denver was against dallas and you have nicole yokich versus luka doncic. Both unstoppable offense players. I still think the denver matches better with luca than dallas matches up with nicola. And that's because you have aaron gordon you have. Pj dosier you have michael porter and you have will barton and you can be a little bit more switchable with those guys on the wing then you would have been in the past when denver last played them. They didn't have aaron gordon in their previous match against dallas. Michael porter sat out at least one of those games Douses a good team and lucas. An unstoppable offense player. But i just don't trust the people around him and i think the denver could win that series. And then you get to the point okay. Who's at the top now. Utah phoenix if one of those teams as the theme that denver faces in the second round. Do you really think that it's impossible. Denver couldn't win one of those series. Because i don't i think they could absolutely one of those series because they have the best player and so often that is the that is what matters in a playoff series. And i don't know where this is ultimately going to end up but i tend to think and i tend to trust nicole yokich and i tend to trust joe-marie and i tend to trust michael porter jr. Unfortunately jamal there but trusting. Those guys has has really led me wrong yet. And and i tend to think that those guys just the way that they are wired the way they have fit together and played. Well anything is really possible. So i'm not going to count them out just yet. Yeah i I fully concur with that. I think Just like you mentioned. I i really honed in on on the nuggets. Post jamal Just to get a read of where the team was at and where they were headed in It just hasn't felt like i mean i've seen teams have injuries. And they go on a mini run but it feels more like there are. They're trying to overcompensate and Keep going what they had and the team is just like. We talked about the defense at the beginning. They somehow on the flour it will the change up their identity in a way and it doesn't feel fake to me so i you know i'm not going to place bets or anything actually i. I told france tonight that they should bet on the atlanta indiana game and i think some of them lost money because of this swyto bed but point being i i agree..

"Weeks ago. But i could be wrong about that. So don't quote me But he is. I think he's on his way he's been sending the smoke signals via social media. There's been nothing. Updating his status on the nuggets fronts they. I know that he is out on friday nights. He'll probably be out again on saturday. Just because like it'd be it'd be tough to having back on on a game against the brooklyn nets but give him a couple more days after that of then maybe he's back for a couple of the games before the end of the regular season and that would be the best things to help him get his feet under him a little bit. Have him get some shots up having get some wraps and see whether he could get some footing because denver they. They need another point guard that they can trust. Yeah no definitely is a great point. He was doing a lot of really great stuff at the beginning of the year as well and Looking at pj to. I'm really frustrated for pj a because the aca for the nuggets but also he was playing really well like he was doing some stuff that i talked my friend jackson. Franken of pod today or yesterday. I can't remember but Pj he's showing stuff is like a pull up shooter. Mid range is three still isn't falling below. Like he's just. It's so funny. Because i mean credits a tim conway in the player development staff then but every time this has just happened for four years every time somebody gets injured. There's another guy who's been playing ten minutes a game struggling to get more run into rotation that ends up starting and then they they will often. It was maliki easily. Three years is that three years ago. Now i'm the bubble is just ruined all time for me. I'll time is at an all time especially especially now like as as busy as we are but you. You're so right that the nuggets. They've done such a great job one of tim. Tim connelly's main tenants. As as a general manager has been to assemble as many good players on the roster as possible a lot of people stop at twelve. A lotta people stop at thirteen. Tim connolly likes to try to get to fifteen sixteen seventeen now if you possibly can and that can rub people the wrong way a little bit sometimes because there needs to be a pecking order like if you bring in guys that are good. They expect to play..

"We're talking about guys who played well we're not talking just about Tatum. We're not talking just about Jaylen Brown we're talking about some of those other guys are on the side who for the most part have not made an impact in this game Grant Williams. I mean only five points was a plus 23 and for once that was not a misleading stat when you look at how he was able to defend jokic how he was able to make a hustle plays like the one that we're just talking about where that wound up with Romeo wage. I filed at making a couple of free throws. You start going down this roster be on your big to of Tatum and brown and UC player after player after player making a contribution and gave me the one thing that it all says is that this team finally finally finally decided to fight they finally decided to fight but when games instead of, Georgia, Letting things play out the way they were they fought to be aware. Aaron Gordon Makes His Debut for the Nuggets Against the Hawks

"All right. Get into a little bit of basketball here. Aaron gordon the big acquisition at the deadline for the denver nuggets made his debut sunday verse. The hawks a solid debut might look the line and say thirteen points on six of nine shooting. That is exactly what the nuggets want. He played really well off to coca shed a beautiful dunk on the baseline. This is what they want him to be. They want him to be a cutter playing with better players for the first time in his career. I mean he's played with better players and vuckovich but not a player. I'm nicola yokich is standards. I just wondered when aaron gordon went over to the nuggets. Would he be able to cut that dribbling out. He played more like a superstar more ball in his hands. I'm going to do this thing on my own. Can he be a support player. He used nicole yoga's gravity pretty well in this game they will pick and roll action going nine shots. The only misses were from three point. Land the more tuesday better with aaron gordon. But he if he can fill that jeremy grant role that they lost last year in the playoffs. Just be that guy who's a third option and hit shots. I mean that is absolutely

"The nba comes back in full steam tonight. We're going to talk about a one year anniversary of the day. We call it the go bear game when everything changed. It was leading up to the week before. Boston song conferences. Five six days beforehand. There's utah's in boston. The utah guys get infected. Actually feels like it could have been a lot worse from that standpoint but in some ways it feels like it's been a year in other ways it feels like it's been five years but one thing that is for sure as the nba is a hell of a lot different a year later. What what's the biggest thing that's jumped out to you in the past year other than the no fans you know. I think the dirty little secret bill is just a mental health of we talk a little bit about the mental health of the players. I think it's that plus the mental health of the coaches. I would add that. Gm's ev involved like it it it just. There wasn't enough time. there wasn't an time off and and they knew that and that's why they wanted to start january but broadcast partners. Put the foot down and it. Just i see a steel seal the ripple effects of it when you talk to guys which is not easy to do these days because you're not in an arena. You're not sitting down and shooting the breeze with guys before the game like we normally do but when you get people on the phone or in a private moment you know what one had said to me about three days ago. This is so stupid. You gotta do it. But they're like it's just he one of the one another different. Gm said to me you know. I went in the other day to work is in their team has scuffling a little bit and he said i didn't like i wasn't talking about like hey you know you need to keep your elbow win. He said i just went to all and said like. Are you guys ok not about. I'm going to talk about basketball. Like are you okay. Yeah 'cause 'cause it's been a long haul now and and i think it's obviously a reflection of society as a whole. It's been a long haul for all walks of life in every profession and not to mention the people that aren't working. You know we could. We could spend a whole day on that. But that to me is the overwhelming thing that i notice and they're still great basketball being played. I give the guys that are cutting through this amazing amount of credit especially those final four teams which i think when you look back. Now they all struggled. Yeah lakers not until anthony davis went down with the celtics. Certainly the denver nuggets came out of the. You know the gate. Six and seven the miami heat you know. They were a plan team or out of the playoffs in the early. Start and i think that's a coincidence.

Rudy Gobert's Transformation Started In The D-League

"On sunday rudy. Gobert made his second straight appearance in an nba. All star game. Tom make it a second confederate and for years. Now the big man with the even bigger wingspan. There's been a dominant force within the nba. Tolbert defensive player of the year. There was a time when that was not the case. Time when rudy gobert future was very much in doubt. Today the fx christopher come ronnie takes us back to the time when go gobert was uncertain about where it was headed and explains how he climbed his way to the top. They knew that if he could fill out if he could continue to develop defensively and add various tidbits to his game. Offensively could potentially become a game changer in the league. That's their mind in rudy's mind. He always believed that he would took from wondering athletic. I'm under scotto. It's monday march eighth. And this is the league. It felt like something great emotion and ask past. I s not get this. This is here. you're gonna be the athlete. It stays with you so chris basketball fan today. Think of rudy gobert this absolute force you know a guy who dominates around the rim often makes other teams change their style of play when they face him. But you recently spoke with rudy and wrote about how that has not always been the case so take us back to the days when rudy gobert was not yet rudy. Gobert there. Yes so rudy. Gobert was drafted by the denver nuggets in two thousand thirteen and acquired by the jazz in a draft night. Trade played for show les the french league and his sizeable things into the twenty seventh overall. Pick and he came into the league as a relative unknown. What you'll bring to this team. I mean i i know. You're very long and and a defensive presence. What do you think you can. How can you help this team right away right away. Yeah can we. He had worked his way up the international level coming up in france he had to work himself onto the radar of even french national teams. He wasn't really all that known as a fifteen sixteen year old. How long have you been playing basketball nine years nine. So did you grow up playing soccer before he was on jazz team. That had several high draft picks on it. They had derrick favors. Ns canter to former high draft picks. Big men that played rudy's position. They had a veteran and andreas. Who was a veteran presence on that team as a big man and under that regime rudy kind of found himself as the odd man out but the jess drafted him and took him on as a project and he apparently was not the most stylish guy. What he i community league. yes so obviously. When you're twenty one year old seven foot one kit. That's tall and gangly. It's hard to find clothes that fit you. Great i was going to be on. Is doing right now if you see rudy these various nba awards where he's won the nba defensive player of the year. Two times now. He's showing up and looking very much like a stylistic parisian that he probably always wanted to be back in two thousand thirteen when he was still sort of odd man out on the jazz as you put it. He got sent down to the bakersfield jam of what was then the d. league. i from a life standpoint. What was it. Like for rudy gobert. End up so far off the beaten path and you know in one of the rougher parts of california yes so it's a culture shock for anybody. I think who wants to be a professional basketball player to have to go to a place like bakersfield. California bakersfield has kind of a rough and tumble streak about it. It isn't the most friendliest places. Well tonight we are taking an in depth look into black tar heroin and its presence here in kern county. Rudy's coach will void talked about it would be culture shock for anybody. Let alone a parisian arriving in bakersfield. Which is we're like community area where where are rena and everything was based. That is kind of like mess. Mess capital of the world. So i think he was not going to find a croissant sprint. Snow and anywhere around there. The coaches just told him to stay in his hotel room. And just relax tries to be honest. tells hotel for the most in when he wanted to go work out at the gym. the bakersfield complex. Had you know that all that stuff in their facility but it was very much like. It was almost like a private school in that. He went from work to the hotel room. And that's

Aaron Nesmith Shows Promise as Celtics Beat Nuggets

"Start with tonight. Again. You had a few things going on. The number one again. We could easily run through the most important things that happened the game, but it's really hard not to look at this and say that this was kind of like the irony Smith game and not because he played great. I thought he was pretty okay, but he did he was the first guy off the bench that matter. He played 23 minutes A lot of people were saying maybe he was rewarded for his effort you suck cuz he was running around like crazy. He still looks pretty tentative and lost at times but like he's trying and this is what we talked about. It's not that Arnie Smith and we were arguing about this on our thread all day. He's not that are inducements birth. Then the players out there. You're not better than SAM-e. He's not but you want him to be you gotta give him a shot. You gotta live and learn with a little bit. I'll take an effort like this every single time if he's out there totally imperfect choice at times he disappeared but I mean nothing just nothing but positives off of tonight. I don't think yeah. Definitely I mean, but I'm with you I mean and think he looks amazing out there, but he took a little more comfortable than we've seen them before in the past, right and also think that the rest of his teammates are starting to realize okay like the starting to look for him now more often and I think a lot of that has to do with his effort. I mean you putting effort on the defensive end of the floor or specially in the game against the Denver Nuggets, you know, I think that that went a long way and I think they rewarded him they were looking for him for open shots and credit to him. He wasn't afraid to to take those so much credit to the rookie but I mean is this Thursday? I'm now if this like the the rotation we this is the something just fix it was it is this all it took for everyone to just Panic real quick. And then this other come out here and beat the Nuggets and now all the problems are solved no, come on.

The Celtics Seem To Be Missing "That Guy"

"The thing that great teams have are they have Those guys who will bring them together and say yeah, that's the thing that for me with the Celtics over last month. I haven't seen that guy. I mean and and that anger that Marcus has that pop off lists that he has to me is valuable for the scene cuz he needs it off. I mean I went to I mean when I when I'm seeing this team, I went to a tip-off dinner. They had a couple of years ago and they had em on stage and think was Kyrie or the recording at the gala and I was born I don't know. I mean give me something that many jobs, you know, we're going to play hard and win, you know, they were going to Yo, these people are in now they they want to be excited to give me something like, you know, that's what it hold it off. "denver nuggets" Discussed on Premium Hoops

"So I think he definitely realizes that defense is working to put a lot of work and but you know, there's a lot of other countries to one of Michael Malone's messages to mtj. This summer is to become more this office is not the summer is to become a better catch-and-shoot guy and kind of like directly not directly in the mold, but I could see Denver running a lot of like Miami Heat asked sets that they run for Duncan Robinson and Tyler hero those quadruple handoffs where they or the ones where they send those guys off double triple star screens. I think Denver is going to want to run a lot of that stuff for m p j and if you can become like a quicker catch-and-shoot guy, he's going to be deadly in those situations because he's already 6:10. Nobody can really block his shot. We saw that just, you know, even in the playoffs like him just shooting it right in the eye of LeBron James and LeBron khong Do anything about it? Cuz mpj 6:10. The rest of the week can't really do anything about it either. So if you can become better in kind of those quick catch-and-shoot situations, I feel like that is a need to a lot of just easy shots for him. And I think Denver is going to run a lot of that stuff for him next season. He's got to get better moving without the ball to he just stands and watches a lot and sometimes that's easy to do when yo kitchen murderer just kind of run they're running their two-man game, but he's got to get better at moving without the ball. And another part of it is Denver's just kind of got A Sneak operate him more into their offense because I've kind of been saying this this this whole podcast, but if it wasn't the yogesh Marie to Man game a lot of times it was just TJ or Jeremy Grant or or somebody else taken a corner three or a wing three at the end of the shot clock. So Denver's also got to work to incorporate him or run some stuff for him at a higher clip than they did last year. I think they'll do that going forward. Yeah. Yeah. Definitely. I agree with that and especially speaking on I mean M PJ's shot like some of the shots he was hitting new. He's really just phenomenal at the one dribble and Pub over somebody it's just been nuts to watch but you know that kind of leads into one last part about the starting lineup and you mentioned to guard potentially starting Will Barton their unfortunate looking at Gary Harris and and where he's at. I think I wrote an article about it too and how he really helped change the Clippers series and and that's totally true. I mean, I remember I spoke to Thursday. I did a podcast with Adam right before game five against against Utah and it almost felt like we're doing a post-mortem for Denver and then I remember I hit him up to the ends after Iraq after they won game 7 I was like, I guess I should keep rooting against the the Nuggets that right. But I mean you look at what Gary did to completely change things defensively against the Jazz and and against the Clippers as well. But then he was almost unplayable against the Lakers because of his offensive shortcomings and I Think It's just tough looking at his money moving forward and his place in I mean, I think there's still a place down in line up. But then you see what happens against the Lakers and I think unless there's like a major Improvement or what would you call a re provement I guess cuz I mean you did used to have that game. It's it's hard to see him being a viable part of a clothing line up in a high-level situation like that again..

The Los Angeles Clippers Have Fired Doc Rivers

"Another myth another legend was fired Bob and I don't you were shocked as I was I, didn't see this coming where Doc rivers we had on the podcast you and I are both huge fans of doc as a human being as a coach. I don't. I. Don't know where I stand right now. Obviously, he is blown some big leads the latest being one in the bubble. Denver and with a team that let's face it. Steve. Balmer paid doc rivers big money to win a championship not not be eliminated by the Denver Nuggets in the in the western conference semifinals so Valid or not valid to let doc rivers go. I knew that we all knew that losing another three to one was not a good thing to have on on anyone's resume to do it twice in. Three years. And the do it with this owner as you said, who invested the overpaid for the team I think even by modern standards that teams are worthy he he got a little giddy with his two billion dollar plus purchase of the clippers the Lakers we could see but not the clippers. So okay, he's invested in this and I worried about it a little bit but I didn't think it would happen. I thought it was a possibility of Steve Bomber angry. But, I, thought it was an of course couching it. It's mutual ha you know coming out of the usual walk away from that money it's the modern. Thing to do that say it's mutual nationally I felt badly because I am very proprietary to a doctor and I have communicate with him already. But. It's understandable that an owner. Successful businessman. Odyssey's bomber is a highly successful with that investment. I I don't know what I don't know Jeff is the level of his own personal basketball acumen. I don't know how much he thinks. He knows he knows more doesn't knows more than that part I don't know you know. Here's what I'll tell you about. Here's what I'll tell you I. Don't think this was all Steve. Balmer. My guess is Jerry West who they pay a ton of money as a consultant. Okay. As a consultant. Yeah. Good point is Jerry West played a significant. In this move and now the question will be. What what's next in the big thing with doc and you and I know this we've been around enough. Great human being great communicator. But the biggest words that you would hear from players about doc dating back to the Celtics was a little bit of a Country Club, right? It's it's easy doctors a practice much. Older players veterans love, them. Again it's where you want to go to and the latter part of your. Extend Your career. and You wonder if that played a huge part here because certainly the clippers didn't look like there were in tiptop condition in the bubble weather. It was Knox fault whether it's back that mantras Harrow had a death in the family and didn't come into the bubble too late whether it's a fact that Lou Williams left the bubble and came back the Patrick Beverley. There were there were a lot of issues. But ultimately. It. Probably does follow on doc in a sense that you had the pieces you had the pieces. You shouldn't be watching if you're the clippers, you can't be watching the Los Angeles Lakers right now compete for

"Have our own appreciation for. How much do you expect that like? A D is going to play like a big man. Well, Franco, who can remove the choice for him by just not playing centers very much as he did in the last round I think the playoffs is so different than the regular season and I think the way that defense is gear up in the playoffs in throw more bodies at your best guys I think it makes it harder to play lineups that just don't have a lot of shooting and even more than what? Houston's offense was presenting them in the last round. I think Houston's defense made it so that the Lakers had to loosen up the floor a little bit in Denver is not as good. A defensive team. The rockets were before they completely fell on their faces in that series but they're smart in I think just things get easier when there's no extra body by the basket. So I think he's going to have to play. No matter what the matchup is, the competition gets better and smarter in harbor playing I think he's going to have to play a decent amount of center. It would feel like I mean there's so much pressure on these lakers, it would feel kind of. Perfect and also absurd if this series ended up being decided by like a bunch of minutes played by Dwight Howard because Anthony Davis maybe didn't feel like he wanted to play twenty to thirty minutes at center. Well, you know it's funny. was watching film of Yokich like an hour ago. Dwight looks twice the only one who's got the heft to to guard him in the post without getting into the restricted area. I, think there's going to be minutes for Dwight. In this series. We'll see what happens in those minutes but I think frank can give them a chance. Yeah. I feel by the way I feel like I just ensured. With the heat taking out the bucks and the nuggets handling the clippers as did some people like our very own. Brian Win Her star friend they're saying that the road to a title is now just pretty clear for Lebron and the Lakers Lebron has been given a glorious opportunity. The bucks are gone. The clippers are gone. He is holding in his hand a chance at that fourth title winning that title with that third team legendary status as a laker going forward he's gotTa take it. So Zach I'm curious what you think about this idea that the clippers being eliminated has resulted in this clarity of pathway for Lebron also. Even. Let him off the hook. Just sit on the two distinct threats and I vehemently disagree with one and agree with the other the clippers out God only knows what the hell just happened to them. I'm still digesting it forty eight hours later same to be are the higher upside team the Denver. What's the bucks were eliminated and even when the bucks were alive, they were the highest upside team they're gone. I'M GONNA shouting. DENVER. Like I'm not gonNA just sit here in Denver just a Patsy for the Lakers the Celtics are good. If Gordon Hayward comes back, the Celtics are really really good and the heat. That's another team I'm done doubt a gun up done the heater. Really good. Those teams are really good and they can play defense sick of play offense they're ready number two. The other thing is I can already see it happening. You just hinted at it. I can already see people trying to write in the Asterix while this was just a bubble title it was weird. Some players that want to be there. They're all these mitigating circumstances you know the bronze competition got eliminated early like how much account that and like no no no no no. No. Part of this whole thing was it's going to be hard in a way that it has never been hard before and all the clippers were fatigued in the fourth quarter of game seven because the ramp up with strange people had to leave the bubble for various reasons and this, and that everybody is dealing with the Lakers best defender on the perimeter didn't come Denver showed up with half a team. In everyone's dealing with it, it's really hard. It's really strange but the hardness of it is part of it to me I don't care who gets a limited if you surviving keep winning, there's no there's questions S. So. Lebron. I am perpetually fascinated given all of this chaos especially that you just described what Lebron do you expect to see in this particular series? He's watching that playoff series between the nuggets and clippers I am sure. What do you think his brain is processing when he sees the nuggets? I think he's probably thinking a lot about defense and I'm not the one who's GonNa. Guard Murray made the possession here there. Certainly on switches year they're not gonNa Garden Yokich maybe got switches. How can I as a rover as the third guy on the back line help out the two guys who are involved in that because that's hard in that's important. Offensively I think this is a good series for him Jeremy Grant will guard him probably start. Games Lebron can handle anybody Tori Craig's not big enough to guard him. Paul millsap get I think probably more chances than people might expect I think he's now become a little too slow for that match. Up I expect lebrons Avenue Lebron series like no more no less. I think he's going to have a good series. It is crazy to imagine the amount of pressure now, sitting on Lebron James Given everything we've discussed so far. What do you think is at stake for Lebron James in these finals. Well. He's thirty five. He's third all time in minutes played. Playoffs plus regular season. which makes what he's doing. Like, beyond absurd like. Alien it's just not of this universe. It's insane when he's done Disa- typical case for him as the greatest player of all time is going to be overwhelming. And The one statistic won't be overwhelming six in the finals which Jordan's record yet Lebron is three and whatever I don't even remember was made the final. So many times I've lost of how many loss. Four rings and ex trips to the finals with three different themes. Like. I grew up Michael George. You don't have to remind me what he did but I think you know with time and distance the way we perceive all these things changes and four rings. Plus chances are more. In you look at the stats that are going to be piled up to people who really care about this and fans do it starts to get really difficult to make like a you're a moron if you think this statement, right? Well in order for Braun, to win a title with his third different team. He's going to need to get help from his own wingman Anthony Davis and to recap for those who are not totally familiar I. This is the Farthest Anthony Davis has gotten into the postseason. He is the number to that Lebron. James has apparently always wanted by some accounts and I'm curious if you have strong opinion on that if he is the best number to Lebron has ever had. But here he is. Now in this moment facing Nikola Yokich, and how do you expect the Lakers to deploy a D. that matchup? If they start centers again, the Lakers started again you'll sample garden at the beginning of games but I expect when they had that matchup I aggressive like. Pick, and pop how many threes is GonNa make the nuggets are GonNa live with those threes can you shoot threes but like face off Nicole? Leo could she can't keep up with these first step like face up draw fouls get to the Rim I think he'd these ready for this is playing great. He's playing the best defense of his career and to your point I do think he's the best number to Lebron his overhead dwayne Wade year one may have been qualitatively a better player, but because their skills overlap so much I think ad Is. Better natural fit. So part of the upside of this fit in this series is whether a d really wants to play big whether he wants to play tall when he wants to play center I mean we just watched a d versus the small ball rockets who both.

"Fifty one percent shooting forty two percent from three forty three. Wow, that's way over what I would have guessed at a much higher volume than he shoots in the regular season and the playoffs decides like I've got to take these threes because by TV to. Outside. Yokich. Comeback by ten. In this series, he's got to be able to get some buckets in the post against the Lakers centers in against the Anthony. Davis in Anthony Davis Plays Center and Yokich the guard him can the nuggets survive those minutes defensively. In how well does a D. Fair guarding Yokich in the postseason it very well in the regular season, but you'll get much bigger than. Yeah we'll get into Anthony Davis but. I also want to get into the aforementioned Jamal, Murray. So Yokich is wingman has been playing so far above what I expected to see from him. What is the feeling around Murray in terms of his upside even comparisons to like other current or historical players that you're getting talking to people around the league. His ability to make tough shots is absolutely crazy. Murray trying to get it shot clock winding down Murray puts up a three. Jomo Laurie from downtown floaters. He was hitting game seven against the clippers. And fighting the talks. Home mid range pull ups. Those were enormously tough shots fading tilting. He's one of the stranger players in the League in that you look at his regular season numbers. Totally underwhelming like, yeah, like thirty, three, thirty, four, percent from. Where is this year radical Jamal Murray like unbelievable shooter and then the playoffs start and it's like I'll just put up fifty again they put up forty and game set routinely crazy it's also hard to untangle him from Yokich right because they help each other so much I think Yoga Helps Murray more than Murray Helps Yokich. We can't. Go. There and think about them we're. Going to be a long night for us, you know just need to go out there and an effort I will say effort and having fun. Yeah. It simple for us. They worked beautifully together in terms of what he's going to be I. Think this playoffs his elevated him into the conversation of like Donovan Mitchell Devon Booker like who would you rather have of those kind of guys I think he's not level now yeah. Yeah. Does it feel like to you? The series does hinge on Murray and Yokich. Being the peak maximum versions of themselves against presumably a Lebron James and Anthony Davis pairing that will be doing the exact same thing. Yeah, you know there's always these like little role players who have to make shots and this and that you can say that for every series, but to me, the most interesting part is is in the middle and in particular, how much the Lakers played their traditional centers after basically mothballing them against Houston. And I was talking to a GM, the day we're about how great Yokich has been and how he just destroyed the clippers like destroyed them too big in the post for any of their hair all in smaller guys. Too good of shooter for. Zoo. BOTs on the outside. Who can actually garden now like who can who can take away the three on the pick and pop but doesn't get bowled over in the post? And we stopped the list at Anthony Davis and Bam Bam like that that was the list like Joel Embiid is not using them off the three point arc Ken for five minutes in crunch time or something but like. But Anthony Davis was on the list in that scares me a little bit on Denver's behalf..

"Is ESPN. Zach Lowe you did eventually figure out why Jamal Murray was throwing all that you after Denver made the conference finals. Curse of your official playoff picks for ESPN. Got That yes. fiene picks thing which is becoming the bane of my existence. He might have seen me on the jump the previous Friday in which because this is what they do on TV they say, Zach yes or no are the clippers winning game five and you can't be well, the nuggets are pretty good i. Yes or no said yeah, it's over but it was. It's not I. Don't enjoy it as much as people. I mean I feel like there's a decent chance that you just became the proxy for ESPN and possibly even espn daily because full disclosure we have not even talked about the nuggets since February. When we had a different host, this is how Meena and Doris Burke dealt with some of this nuggets speculation back that I'm sorry I'm sorry nuggets fans do you think they will be stuck in sort of that purgatory between the two teams? I still think they may be a year away Jamal Mary has got to be at the top of his game. He's not necessarily a shot creator, but he has this unique chemistry with Nicola Yokich. The sum of their parts is what makes that group special? What was the valid criticism of this team? Why did so many people miss out on the so badly? With people. You get to the final eight in the NBA playoffs. Every team is good. There are degrees of good but I pick the clippers to win the title. Anyway. So I was talking about this with someone on the nuggets yesterday because they were saying to me, why do you think? Everyone's for this team might terminology for me. What it was was like, what is this team's defense? So two years ago I think they were twenty third in defense last year they were like ninth or tenth, but there was this possibility that it was kind of full circle because they gave up a ton of threes and a ton of shots at the rim where they're getting lucky that opponents was missing those shots and this year they slid to twentieth. And were trending down all season long and so you had their numbers just all over the place but in a way that was like, maybe there's a sort of a mediocre to not good defensive teams like you can't win seriously in the playoffs and through the first four games against Utah they weren't healthy. They were recovering the the virus, it their team they looked bad on defenses any team I've ever seen him. They look I. Mean I heard you and Kevin talked about this on the low post podcast, your show and the phrase which I think it's fair to those who do remember watching the nuggets at some point earlier this postseason was it looked like they had quit. I just I think people. This is what we're learning about. This is like I think once the game start all of us have attended to watch the game what's going on in the game and forget like all day came with half team and were playing some of the seating games with like four centers and Paul Millsap on the floor and Gary Harris was injured in Wilburton is still injure since votes for Games. They've defended it like a top eight ish level in that's been the change like if the seem can defend their. Awesome. If they're mediocre bad defense if deemed third just good and it's unclear exactly what they are. So. We're according to on squad cast. We can choose our username and you have chosen four today. Nickel Yokich Stan. Zach. Lowe and let's first begin the conversation with you just describing for someone who's never actually even seen Yokich like what is Causing you to feel this strongly about that dude. So I was just watching before this in preparation for the conference finals. All of Yokich is post ups in pick and rolls against the Lakers, and he had this one pass that he caught in the post against Danny. Green with his right hand and. saw a cutter going baseline turn to the ball around in his hand without touching it with his left hand and like flicked this weird like his elbow was pointing up at the ceiling this weird like no look behind the back bounce pass raising the hunter is like every game he's throwing pass that I've never ever seen before Yokich with another past Murray got fouled. That wasn't another past Mike that was the pass over the head. Cup. These, toying with the game now. If you look at some of his passes to cutters like they're not open, they're not open they're totally well-covered. There is no pass available, but he just understands they're open. If the defense doesn't see the ball coming, he's the most imaginative passer certainly among big men I've ever seen they call him they broadly there's a consensus I think I agree as well. He's the best passing big man ever can we say that flatly I say that flatly The numbers are becoming pretty convincing people ten years older than you will defend bill. Walton sure and put his name in there. I'm young for buildings prime and of course, none of us got to see really arvydas bonus in his prime. But that's sort of the holy. Trinity of Big Man Passers. But everything he does like the way. I. See him shoot jumpers like my description for it is he looks like someone who's playing beer pong into his fourth hour at the table like just full extension just like flopping everywhere I don't know how this is going in, but it goes in for more often than you might think he feels like he's on the verge of becoming this enormous like very no doubt superstars AC. What do you expect to see out of him against the Lakers? I totally agree with you, and in fact I think.

"Think Malone coach very well defensively, they played really good a lot of Judah Craig grant in Harris mainly, the big three defenders Yoga didn't get torched salt. That's a good thing you know so I mean just the credit, a lot of credit zender they just they stuck in their down three one and I saw this thing it was the three best teams of all time number three. The the warriors back you know when they were winning it all. Or to the ninety, six polls, the number one, the down three one Denver Nuggets. I if you guys have not listened to lockdown Lakers today please go listen to it was funny as fuck they just totally dog the clippers Harrison said that if if the Lakers were to go up To one on on the nuggets that they should tank fourth game. Play it safe. I. Mean. Honestly though it feels like it in. Not to discredit the nuggets but they just like I don't know where it came from and to do that to series in a row is absurd to me like I can't even imagine that and it just happened I. Mean we're just watched it happen. It feels like months ago that that we wash them come back against Utah in those three weeks ago. Yeah. And it's it's just been a crazy playoffs. Who one of the guys who really stood out for me though is Jeremy Grant especially. him being able to move back to playing the four a little bit more. With Gary Harris coming back I don't remember I mean he was playing the fucking to most of the bubble like obviously not where Jeremy v and so he was I mean he's a good perimeter defender but. Getting us the primary guard on Donovan Mitchell until Gary, Harris returned in the bubble like I that that is such a huge ask for somebody his size to try and cover somebody that small in fast But I mean, he hit big shots he is not shot incredibly well in the playoffs but he play one..

"Right from he was throwing one. Throw them on a Frisbee. If my memory serves yeah yeah I would johnny rods. I tried to type in I to type in the unpredictable johnny rods but it said it was too many characters like of all the things him that like. You know of all the things we're leaning on. Espn we're going like we got home. Run derbies comment. We've got you know retro everything like what would you and I not give to go back to that. Our World Wrestling Federation ten minute matches Bruno San Martino like that was my tag team. Jani rods and Jose Estrada. I saw him at Bristol Central High School when I was a kid that came to my high school. Watch them loose. I think the wild Samoans Like like we'd be front and Center for that era rustling it's just it's political correctness is overwhelmingly positive but I was forced to even an MBA. I kind of came in before it was kind of phones or Social Media. And it was you know you had. It was kind of old school sports but I think that that era of wrestling is about. His whole school is against those guys. Live tough tough lice. Whether you watch documentaries that they've been out there. There's a great show on Netflix right now beyond the ropes. Ducks have the ropes but It's the characters were so politically correct. Yeah and you had like Nikolai. Volkov's daughter went to school with my sister. Make Life Volkov's Russian News Corp.'s. The Iron Sheik. My WIFE IS A. She's pershing she was the first one born in the states. families born in Iran. They kind of fled after the religious right wing took over but he was a a near Olympic level wrestler. And I think you'll bodyguard. Shot so the stories in these guys are driving from Baltimore to Trenton. In stopping at Burger King and getting fight so It's hard to replicate how crazy these guys were. And it's just a good sign of kind of grown up. We didn't have cable. I grew up so You once every week or two. We go to errol's of yet arrows in Jersey Connecticut video. So we'd rent Wrestlemainia from soldier field and there'd BE MR T. Would fight or they have these just absurd concepts and they really weren't an right and you talk about like it was the iron sheik whatever Middle Eastern country the US was in some sort of whatever Middle Eastern country the US was in some sort of conflict with he would be. He was from Iraq then he was Iranian and and they just pretend that the seven months ago his background just changed. And you're all going to go along with it and he just played. Whatever stereotypical enemy You're right it was what I didn't get the videos but I would go Novak's pharmacy actually on the West End in Bristol Connecticut. I don't think it's there anymore. But they had the wrestling magazines. They would come in once a month and they were like maybe two or three dollars and I would save up and go get like with the latest wrestling. I never saw rick flair wrestle. But he would be in these magazines. We didn't have we didn't have cable either. And so I think Rick Flair and those guys were like on Turner and but I just. I just knew nick. Bach winkle was the Awa champion and Mid West. I only knew him from the magazine now. My my grandparents had cable and I walked to my grandparents. We walked grandparents after school. And then my mom would come pick us up. And I only resented with the van Eric so our cable a WCW wrestling but come on at three thirty on a and you know not really high production quality. I mean I read an article in salt video recently about Kamala Kamala Mississippi. He's not from anywhere in the continent the African continent and he got into a fight with Andre the giant and he was so scared of Andre. The giant was gonna come get him again. He said he wrestled with a gun in his truck for a couple of months. You can't you can't make it up and it's It's a good reminder of where we were Address referenced Vocal. He ended up being a liquor inspector In Baltimore County with a buddy of mine and I couldn't get enough stories about him being a health code inspector liquor inspector. I mean I couldn't imagine if I'm if I'm waiting to get a Liquor License in Essex and Baltimore County and this guy comes a door it also speaks to be prior to me get an MBA and really getting a better sense of how small the world is having all these great travel experiences. I wouldn't know the difference between Croatian and Russian. One of our assistant coaches Oguz dockage. Great Guy when he came here wrongly fantasy passport is Russian and yet to explain to the people. I've not Russian. I don't speak Russian. I'm not from anywhere near Russia. I guess at some point. We're all behind the same communist regime but just how ignorant all of us were to be honest. A lot of still are but today could Nikolai. Volchkov a Croatian guy. I think he's from split sell himself as a Russian guy would be real time with some Internet. Slough said this speaking Serbian the like Mike. My I'll never forget like my way. That wrestling isn't what we it was at my. It was our high school and I don't know how old I was pretty young and I remember. We got there really early and we saw the guys in the parking lot. Pull up in their vans and there were walking from the parking lot up to like the entrance. Come in high school and I saw the I I think it was. I guess it was the Samoans and you know their whole thing. Was there crazy right crazy. They were like they literally. Just you know these were insane people and income in the ring and so I remember standing there going like watching them get out of the driver's side and the passenger side of the car and I'm going. How can they give these guys licenses? Like what are they doing? Driving these are crazy and saint people and they were like but wait. They look normal. They're just pulling their bags out of the car the throne it over their shoulder and they're walking in and I'm like how can they have driver's license and I'm going what is happening here right but they you know they've just Ryan I'll tell you what's an underrated? It's and now they have. I think a Netflix show about global. It's it's dramatic and it's well done. But glow was insane. When glow came out. They had no real audiences you know it was an all female wrestling troupe. And Try something new but if memory serves if you've come on eleven thirty on USA network. They had A. They had a woman that was just insane. That was her thing was her stick was I. I'M INSANE. Could you imagine? Try to have the same kit today and it was a real a real real bad mental health in America. Yeah I mean this stuff I gotta give a shout out to the Baltimore Sun. Local papers across the country right now are are struggling. But I'm pretty certain they still have and I never been a wrestling match to work with the wizards but I just love the shows on. I'm pretty certain they still have a weekly wrestling column. And if you didn't Nonni better you know if you're coming over from some country doesn't have a big professional wrestling you would think they were writing about additional sport. Paul Kogen beat Macho man savage on Saturday surprising result. I love how kitschy it is and again it's probably the politically correct world. We're in is fantastic. But it's also fun to look back at some of these insane ideas that made its way to national TV. Eight means wrestlemainia. Events were huge events. Hundred Thousand People Soldier field where the lions used to play it. It's just it's and how much vitual these some of these villains can draw from the fans it's amazing skies on cable pay. Might my life change. When Larry's of Bisco hit Bruno Sammartino over the head with that share like and Bruno had that sort of fake blood dripping. As like like how could Larry's how could he do that? How could he turn? That was the first he good guy turned heel anyway. Anyway I think of life changing events in how we can certainly Larry's Bisco is at the top for me to. We could go all day on wrestling where there's like another era we can move into but yet wrestling podcast off. It would be. We'll both have a lotta time hands right now. Yeah yeah absolutely. Listen get back to schooling. I think recess recession becoming any day any moment. I guess at the Cali Household. Maybe you can Go out lead lead a gym class and come back into work on math here in the second half of the day. Any downtime for me is what snack to you on. Let's see what's on Netflix. "There's there's another couple of characters that That always on my phone probably meant for this podcast but it. What's fascinating is when you think about the commonality. Even those things whether she tiger king or some of the the the not. Pg things that everyone sent along it shows you how much we're all connected which also all corners of the world and the states are sending me the same thing whether it's a joe exotic meam or a doctor fallacy video. We're all as different as we are. We're all without being too corny and say we're all really are in this together in this over facing has no boundaries economically or a your faith or geographically is- GonNa touch at all of us have hasn't already and I think you can find any positive. It's kind of the sense of community did that's already there in much more so than it. Was there a couple weeks ago? You know it's funny I I I was thinking about you and I had. I guess it was a lunch or maybe it was utterly dinner in New Orleans. I don't know maybe a I guess it was a couple months ago. I guess I think I was in New Orleans for Zion's first game and you were coming in with with nuggets. You guys had an off day in New Orleans. You're on the trip and we crossed an we. We had you walk into a place that I hadn't been as Negra yes right like you Mrs Pod. Yeah quarter obviously you know you you you work there several years before he became the GM and now president in Denver. And so you know all these spots but I think about the conversation we had that day about. We were talking about climate change and we were talking about the world. That's going to be there for our kids. Mine are older than yours but the challenges that are going to be there when even wear long gone and we were talking about down the road and it's like well down the road is it's here. It just feels like this is the kind of stuff we were. You know. We're talking about well. Twenty five thirty years in the future based on the models and what the planet's GonNa to look like in what we're not addressing and it felt like the conversation you and I were having not so long ago here. It is for our kids now. Yeah it's scary. I mean that was a pretty deep conversations especially considering that the guy was having a Carrot Margarita. At the time you say when you have as you get older and you have children. It's it's hard not to anybody responsible not to think about those things in putting more front and center in our profession. It's easy to be self absorbed. We think everything is determined by wins and losses or acquisitions and our world is a relatively small one but is big enough that you can pretty quickly the enveloped in it and not realize how little means now doesn't mean that not unbelievably competitive and I. I don't sleep at night after losses or we messed up a draft. Pick in. Don't sleep for years after things like that. But we're in a funky time right now and that conversation certainly kind of foreshadowed where we are currently I don't know An old you can only control so much when you have showed and you want to do anything in your power to ensure that what you can control will make their life better and I don't know if collectively were doing enough of that Nick Whether it's you know it politics or whether it's kind of the the widening gap between the haves and have nots It's kind of a scary time right now and again. If there can be any positive from this we look back on a couple of months when there's a vaccine when his treatment when we were affectively out of it and overcome it I think There's been all do. The social community was so often put their whether it's financial whether it's faith-based whether it's race based I think right now there's a real sense more so than I've ever felt my life maybe after nine eleven yourself this for weilded all the same and the more that we can help each other in the more we can be forward thinking and kind of get each other's back a better life is for everybody. How much tim do you feel the burden? You feel every day when you have a staff. They saw what happened in Philly. And he's okay that was salary reductions and then the team pulled back but it is inevitable. We're going to see yet. Listen I think more people the unemployment numbers this week. That came out on Thursday morning. Were record-setting there's somebody in. America always talk about records while this is record setting unemployment of the biggest ever right. And so what's the pressure you feel about? You know they're looking to you and you'll work with ownership on it but but knowing that like there's going to be some hard things to figure out based on the economic impact of this what this is going to mean for judge Doesn't just oversee the nuggets but he oversees the avalanche. You have two teams there. You have the arena. Would you feel in that way in your position and trying to find ways to avoid having to go down that path with yourself? We are fantastic ownership. That's I stepped up as much as anyone in the world. In terms of some of these hourly employees a lot of different teams had done a fantastic job. Our ownership group owns the building owns countless franchises. The buildings has events on twenty six of thirty days. So what they've done already I think is pretty telling of how much they care about their staff and how aware they are of how how tough decisions in terms of direct staff. Let's be honest. We're all already so unbelievably fortunate. We make good money to watch coach play basketball so one thing that that. I'm not a fan of and I talked about all the time. It's never feel sorry for yourself. I don't think the NBA can ever feel as if they're in a bad place. I think what I'm most concerned about. His buddies who were have bars and restaurants guys was small business. Not a good buddy who has an oil and gas companies worked his tail off less couple years. I can't imagine how hurtful it must be for him economically CB nineteen you have Saudi Russia kind of Johnson about oil prices. And you're just trying to get a company off the ground in Colorado in West Texas and Oklahoma in this happened so I think while we're always going to ensure that all of our colleagues are are taking care of it and they're gonNA ship has done a great job of leading that charge. I think we have to be aware of how you can help. Those who are even tougher spots in the community so I think the NBA's look. It's not reality. The money's not reality the way with travels not reality the job itself not reality and I think a lot of people are facing the really harsh realities right now and help those people. Yeah and I think and I said this the other day I think on one the other pods but I do hope and I think this. Hopefully this is true throughout society. But I do think it needs to be true in the NBA. And I can't speak other professional sports but I think and I'm guilt. We're all guilty of it. The money is so big and it's big for the players. It's big for the coaches and front offices and like I've seen a little arms race in last few years among front offices. Gm's presidents about WHO's getting. What will he got? How much did he get? Want more. And there's this sort of sense of it's this never. It's there's this Pot of goal. That we're just GONNA keep digging out of it. Everyone's always going to have more and more and I I do hope the serves as a reminder that Nolan's entitled to any of this and we're lucky to get to work in this world and the probably never have a real job for day in in our adult lives and I do hope what comes out of this as more of a sense of gratitude and proportion. Maybe proportion is the word because I you know we talking about the salary caps going up. There's more for everybody and then all of a sudden there is no absolutely right. Now who matters first responders? Medical professionals scientist delivers truck. Drivers Grub hub on restaurant workers. The we picked up a peachy yesterday and the guy was great and ten minutes and a chef and he was so thankful we came in there. I think oftentimes society is humming. There's not an appreciation for why at hums in only those on top of the financial hierarchy are probably Giving enough credit for what's going on right now. We all need each other. We're interconnected winner chwine. We've become so global so supply chains are messed up in China which they are. We're GONNA WE'RE GONNA be impacted if if the goods that did you WANNA buy can't be delivered because a truck driver sick we're going to be impacted so I I agree. I hope it's a chance for us to kind of reassess how much we all need each other and how much we should value each other and look right now. I have a brother taught for a long time. Had a couple of sisters the nonprofits. I always say you know what I I would be very happy just leaving this profession in coaching and teaching. And I've I've been a part time teacher for ten days. It's amazing how little little those guys get appreciate his hard. It's difficult in our society is certainly kind of upside down in hell. Hell little these guys are valued both financially and just kind of a greater societal scale. But they're keeping US afloat right now. I mean if you're a nurse right now you're you're a real hero. It's not the athletes is not the performers. If you're just delivery of your bus driver in put yourself in harm's way every single day so I'm with you maybe it's too It's a little too pie in the sky a little too rosy outlook but I have my fingers crossed that they'll be a little friendlier little more connected society. It actually get through this this. This is a difficult transition him. But I'M GONNA explain this the Best I can. So we're recording this podcast with our producer. Dance Danza here. We have to log into a website and then we call into it and we do it through our laptops but you have to type. A name in when you're entering the little podcast room share with me the name you typed in. I'm going to share mine and it is a common. I think a common love. We have. "They care about their craft and I think they realize that when this thing gets back on the court is going to happen fast and furious or the more prepared. They stay in these days the better but I've had a hard time with. I think you know unprecedented been a term of us. Way Too often The last couple of weeks. I think it really isn't i. Think the UNPRECEDENT. Nature of this event doesn't make any right answers at the moment. Hopefully we're learning on the fly and continue to get a little more educated. Get ahead of this thing but in terms of pointing to anything in the past. It looks similar. I've struggled with it. I wrote about this the other day on. Espn and there was a conference. Call that you know you help put together laughing. So was last Monday with a bunch of Gems Mitt. Maybe a third of them in the League and it wasn't meant to be comprehensive. It was just I think a group that were you guys are texting emailing and it's like hey let's get together and as a group and talk a little bit and what did you find getting on with your peers. This is a time. Typically where trade deadline's long over. You're not to the combine yet. You're not talking. You guys aren't necessarily this time of the year all engaging. Would you look at this time of the year in the calendar you said in the piece that there's a real sense of fraternity right now in the League How would you describe what you another? Gm presidents have been able to lean on each other with. I'm so fortunate to count those guys. His colleagues his friends. They're all way smarter way more accomplished. And when I have a we have issues organizationally the easiest thing that I found it to help potentially shed some light on any internal issues. Call those guys and you know. This is a societal issue. Our basketball communities pretty small most of these guys that are in these other chairs. I've spent countless days on the road with him all over the world as we speak right. Now we have a couple guys that have been impacted greatly by the virus guys longtime front office guys so I think pretty quickly teams realize this is not about competitive advantages. Not About one upping. We'll have those moments The trade deadline the draft. Free Agency where? Competitiveness will lead the day but right now we have to ensure that. We're doing everything possible collectively to help. And the call was very helpful in the ensuing. Emails in exchange of ideas was helpful because a lot of these teams are doing really neat things that we had never thought of. And we're trying to institute in the more that we idea share communicate. I think the better. It's not just about basketball. It's about getting on the phone with ten eleven different cities Locally what guidance you get from your government thank you know. Bob was great. He was essentially. Is We're speaking. The state government starts to take action in their shelter in place So he he gave us some what we could likely expect in coming weeks now. Denver we have a similar directive from our local and state government. So I think basketball again. What was minimally part of the conversation was about. Hey we were a community. We all have staff we care about. What's the best way to get through this chimp? There's been a lot of. You've had a lot of initiatives in the League that you've had to look at discuss analyze in-season tournament play in tournament. Postseason reseeding Steve. Kuhn in Atlanta's had this idea for years about moving schedule from December to Through the summer through August. Do you wonder if what comes out of. This is that it might end up being a canvas that initiates some change or Cadillac. Maybe like a reimagining of the League. And maybe there's a mindset more so people going okay what's best for the League. Do I have to look at things and maybe agree to things that in the past? I thought maybe didn't benefit my team in my market in my situation. But we've all got to be looking at the greater good. You wonder if there's a shift in the aftermath of the viruses impact. Everything has to be on the table. And we're in unchartered waters so I think we have to be as creative as possible to. How do we salvage? This season. Wasn't look like what's realistic. I think we should all always have right on the greater good where we work for individual teams but we should all be fans the league and we all groping fans a league so I hope it trusted the most of the teams take that same approach. That what's what's good for all of us eventually regardless of any rules sometimes it will benefit you. Sometimes it won't but I think with the uncertainty comes maybe a chance to be creative a bit more aggressive in terms of moving things around. Potentially I mean I trust the administaff will make the right decisions that regard but I do think it would be remiss not to look at this time as a chance to potential recalibrate and be as creative as possible with looking at everything all the things we do a lot of. Snatches the EMBIID. There's a lot of things we do in society We do because we've always done it. They perhaps aren't the best practices. What's been the one thing that you've seen more on television or on Netflix? Or what's the one thing you've gotten into her? The last couple of weeks you would have never may be had time to spend like what like what world has been introduced to you such a loaded question. I mean there's a bunch of different corners of mine right. Now that obsessed I think for about I would say two months. Cb Nineteen in kind of a byproduct of that is international financial markets. Which I knew nothing about it. I'm just really scared about the economic impacts it's going to have the ripple effect and I still. I was in it before. I'm slightly less than idiot now. But kinda really digging in in reading countless smart people projections really smart people downplaying. Nothing's going to be something serious in trying to have a grasp of how big of an impact this will be looking out my window right now on a C. Restaurants shutdown this the poor people in the service industry have a bunch of buddies that have small businesses and talked to them over the last couple of weeks. I couldn't imagine that something completely out of your control Not of your doing could so negatively impact thriving businesses talked to a buddy last night was a t shirt company Fire seven percent of his staff layoffs in vegetables staff. So those those things have really been front and center and it's scary and fingers crossed that the the government stepping in with the stimulus package will help kind of bridge a lot of these small companies and then the net flicks tiger king. I don't know if you've seen tiger king. It's a must watch if you haven't seen it I've had A. I've had a few people mentioned. I've seen it I I I finally asked some of the other day. Never stopped in on my numerous Oklahoma scouting trips and the leader or the owner of that refuge was A. He's a he's a pretty fascinating guy with a lot of different angles turns into There's a there's attempted murder charges. There's a cast of characters from all over the country. I like documentary has is we watched at the not came out and I I've been a one of its biggest agents and had a lot of people like a lot of people. And then every day we kind of two different theme day yesterday was the Olympics. Today they were GonNa try to make a movie. It we can finder or camcorder which will be a challenge in itself but no it's fast in this time is so challenging. Everybody but for kids especially. They can't grasp why they can't go. See Their friends go to school or even on the playground Denver? Everything's locked down so we went out for Walk Day in the playgrounds head. Police tape all around in trying to get that understand without scaring them has been challenged yet. Tim You you were in one of the teams that was at the ground floor of it on. I guess it was March Eleventh. You know it's funny. I look back I was like. Oh what was that about a week ago right and I look back no man. That was two weeks ago. It was almost fifteen days ago. I'm already losing track of time. You're with your team in Dallas that night when Adam silver suspended the league right in the middle of Your Game. Woody remember about the moments after that and that evening out how. Adela Balzac it'd be in your mind when you think of moments in your career that that you just don't forget certainly that'll be up. There have been in the League for a long time and the day of the game. I kinda got a sense that it might be. One of the last game with fans was way too interest in this topic for several months. Reading about from China's would hit made in Europe in headey certainly not to level. We're seeing today but had a census could be potentially pretty impactful on our country. What was weird about it is we were mid game win. The directive came down from the NBA. So a couple of our guys were kind of aware of it but not fully aware Gary Harris got cut. He had come back in the locker room and get stitched up during a game at Dallas and he asked me about it so I think he was the only guy that was fully aware of what was going to happen soon thereafter the game so trying to certainly competitive and was a big game and playing a very good team. You're focused on the game but talking to talking to Josh. In being kept up to date with the situation it was hard not realize how insignificant that game seemed to that moment and talking to our guys right afterwards talking to our Stafford. Afterwards it was one of the stranger moments I've been around professionally just the so much unknown adamantly did a great job being so proactive and aggressive I think they kind of set the standards for not just sports but a lot of different industries. But what's was especially challenging as you want to have answers when guys asked me questions in in that evening. We had no answers in several weeks later. We still have no answers. You know you mentioned Tim. The fact that you're aware of and thank you and I talked about it. Trier and I think especially for two reasons right number one. The League was keeping teams pretty while there. I think very well abreast of like through conversation through memos through like this is coming and we gotTA start preparing for it but I think you know you're listen you bend to every corner of this world scouting players you a lot of relationships with people all over the world in Europe In an so I got a greater sense that people in the NBA were more acutely aware. maybe more. I think more so than our government was trying to prepare us because it was sort of it was intertwining in all of your worlds and and you just knew it was coming. Yeah I think that's a good point. We have the part to me got real or said this could really quickly make the jump from Wuhan to our side. The world is when the Lombardy region Italy started really having all these positives and taking these really strict measures arm in northern. Italy is a beautiful part of the world. Got A lot of friends there. Also No. It's it's not the most of rule laden part of the world so I saw that part of the country reacting with such vigor. I said this thing is pretty scary. I have to imagine some points can impact us. I think to what level to what extent obviously none of us knew and we still know every every day. You're reading you're watching interviews. You're trying to be as informed as possible to the politicians defense. Some of these scientists medical professionals defense anytime unprecedent. You can't really look back and learn but I think as a community with all our relationships whether you knew guys playing coaching China. Where the we've all spent a ton of time in Milan or Bologna back. Today was a pretty popular the scouting city. I think we knew enough people that were ahead of this prior to affect our country that we had a pretty good indication that this is not going away. Something that should be on our radar. Tim. There was the nuggets announced that one member of their organization had tested positive for the corona virus. And your group had to be under quarantine as the president of the team. What what what's your role in understanding exactly what that means and then executing it with your entire group what what what goes into the entire group is probably happy to see me for fourteen days. It was it was a win for them. All we care about is the health and safety of our of our staff and our staff is collective operations coaches scouts trainers players and their family. This is a societal issue. It's not a basketball issue and we put that above anything else so whatever we can do to keep these guys informed and keep them as safe and healthiest possible has got it all of our decisions so with that being said we're also let them know that we don't have all the answers and we we don't have a crystal ball and were unsure of how things develop but let's listen to really smart people and take their advice in. Let's err on the side of caution to ensure that we could all come out of this thing healthy and connected because again with so much unknown. It can create paranoia so we want to be directly. Won't be informative but we don't want to have anyone living in fear Tim when they shut down the practice facilities you had a week while teams had a week when there were some teams that were bringing players in. They could work out with a coach. like thirty minutes a day one on one and then that got shut down what. What's been your Denver? How have you handled? Listen YOU'RE A team. That is if when there's a return this season you know your team. That's at the top of the standings in the West that has significant postseason aspirations. What's been the plan and sort of the message your players about how to deal with the uncertainty. How can you stay prepared and yet follow these rules? That are in place where you know. You just can't go wandering around to any jim somewhere and getting a running. It's been really challenging. We SHUT DOWN. Facility for seventy two hours after we flew back from Dallas then reopened it and I talked to the guys. Ask them what they thought about. Having a couple of hours a day at the gym and they all really appreciate it. I think it was Cathartic as much for the physical activity. I think the social aspect of it getting out of the house talking to friends talking to Colleagues and then the League mandate came down. So we've been. The bill has been dark for a while now. Communicating with these guys constantly again first second third is listened to the CDC listened to your local state governments for the most part socially distant social isolation. Excuse me if you show any symptoms. Let us know right away and then on the back end of that we fully expect there to be games played and we have pretty high expectations for what we could potentially do this postseason so you don't. WanNa make it a basketball topic but I think we have competitive guys in guys that have put a ton of time and effort into the sixty plus games already played who know that we have a chance to make real noise in the postseason that that always be on the back of their minds. These guys are competitors. Guys have grown up in gym. So it's been a heck of a judgment but I think so far staffed on a good job of trying to be creative with keeping his guys in shape whether it's online classes whether it's a bunch of guys have peleton's or getting outside for a run I think how do you guys keep these how these guys from being de condition but also again you'll basketball should be very deep in the back of her mind right now. We have to be a good team mates in a community in our society to ensure this thing moves past us as quickly as possible. Tim is is the closest comparison. You can find to try to find some Something to draw from about how a return to play could be isn't a lockout is you've been through a couple of lockouts. Is this the closest in terms of an aside? Exactly the same and a lack of he'll play where you want. It's up to you to stay in shape. You dry anything from any of those that you've been through. I've really had hard time drilling anything. As out of historical context I think one of the most challenging things right. Now if you're lucky enough to be healthy and not have been touched firsthand by this virus is all of us are used to some degree of schedule. Something to look forward to play on this date and work out on this day. We're going to take a vacation on May. First whatever may be an our players are no different so to try to keep them focused without having any real schedule or define dates is especially challenging. Where we're fortunate because we have a group Geyser self-motivated don't need to be led into the gym..

"They don't you know they along India's trade policy like the time Robert Covington Outta care what you think Lebron James can't hey everybody and welcome to this week's episode of you're wrong and here's why I'm Chris wardell joined by a very very under the weather Gregory Gregory area battling through Hayes of allergens Chris it's it's been tough one it sounds good you sound good you sound strong and a warm cup of tea that I know is it ever GonNa happen well I like to think that I'm the human equivalent of a Warm Cup of Tea Greg slow I make people feel better what if not the analogy that I would use for you but I can see where people would think that sure that I would but regardless of that lunacy we are here to talk about why the Denver Nuggets are going to win the Northwest Division why the NFC East going to be decided this Sunday night and why the Charlotte Hornets are going to finish with the worst record in the NBA. Let's kick this off let's get right into at Denver all gets going to win the northwest so I know this doesn't seem like Oh what a shocking position to take but I was looking thing over at Pavonis sportsbook and I was shocked to find that the Denver Nuggets are not the favorites to win the northwest at that honor belongs to the Utah Jazz the Jazz at plus one twenty and the nuggets plus one thirtieth vodka I know close yes but still not the favorites and I don't know that this makes sense to me I think maybe we're getting a little carried away with this Utah team and I'll get back to them after a debunk the possibilities of any of these other teams winning the northwest but let's go to us good Oklahoma City this is the epitome of a rebuilding theme. well if if there's a team that is going to challenge the Hornets and we'll talk about this and that third segment it's probably going to be the thunder assuming they make a series of trades you're out here stealing my third argument third argument ammo in the first argument I love it this that's going to be the show for this week undefeated but no it's the thunder certainly GonNa be in that position I don't think it's terrible I really don't Thank the thunder's roster is terrible on paper right now I just think that the roster that it's going to it's going to be I don't know by the trade deadline is going to be a significantly worse one right now you have you have Chris Paul and you have Gill Gis Alexander Millonarios Andre Roberson and Steven Adams and I don't think it's crazy to say that if everything went right that's a team that you know they're in like they could be in that eight nine ten position in the western conference again you know if if everything and I mean everything goes right if Chris Paul Finds The Fountain of Youth in Oklahoma City if if roberston develops any sort of outside shot and even his fist just Corner three if Gallo stays healthy because I do think Gallo is one of the more underrated players and all of basketball and and Steven Adams isn't traded too early it's a pretty good team are they gonNa win the northwest now of course they're they're not GonNa win the northwest we go to the Minnesota Timberwolves a team where Karl Anthony towns keep saying hey deep under rating us that's fine we're going to sneak up on teams I for all of the excitement to cat might have about his roster I don't share that I don't I don't get where this is coming from you know he is one of the Damore more skilled two way players in basketball certainly one of the more skilled wait big men butts how Andrew Wiggins is a team killer I just I don't I don't think team can win paying all of that Awakens I like culver and Josh Kogi Shooting Guard Point Guards whatever you know Jeff Jeff Napier literally combination of both guards chef Jamie Cabanas. Yeah Jess Jeff Napier which is actually Shabazz Napier is kind of a poor man's Jeff teague so even combining them doesn't do all that much because he's a league average to slightly below average point guard he he is what he is this point now they do have the benefit of big bad Bob Covington or forward broke my heart gregory it broke my heart to see the Timber Wolves Pacers Game this past week where Robert Covington blocks TJ McConnell and then the other to hug after the game I met I will start on men's league teams and not NBA teams year look look Tj has earned his place as a I believe the third point garden as probably going to be second point guard in the Anna the Great Bench Guy Covington you and I will never agree on so I'm not even going to have this argument with you for a fifteenth time but I but Covington yeah all I if you're if you make an NBA team then you deserve to be in the NBA And COVINGTON has made that all NBA defensive team a couple of times so I think that justifies a position in the league still this is this is a team that is going to be fighting for the playoffs not fighting for the North West Vision Portland's Entry disting- Portland's very interesting and I also think Portland talked about Oklahoma City earlier I think Portland is outstanding landing spot if poor if Oklahoma City decides to Trade Danilo Gallinari adding Gallo to a Portland team with CJ and and Dame Lil the the great rapper you're a that's just it opens up a ton of opportunities for that offense to really take flight now gal is not right now this Portland team is still very good eighteen is a team that has shown the benefits of of roster continuity these guys stay together the core stays together they're comfortable playing with each other and every year they just get a little bit better in the little bit better and a little bit better and there were really hard out when the playoffs come but there somebody would have to take a big leap for them to challenge for the northwest or there would have to be injuries to one of the top significant injuries to both of the top two teams I think Portland will get a little bump from Africa Simon's this year think he's going to develop into a sort of a Lou Williams e- light kind of off the bench word in the little was good values that collins came on at the end of the year a little bit they have my favorite underrated player in Basketball Anthony tolliver power power forward a you literally just bounces around from team to team every single year and shoots forty two percent it's a stretch for can't play defense doesn't rebound but the man could shoot the basketball Kasan whiteside in a contract year so he's at least playing for something Nurkic when if he comes back and resembles his former self Also interesting player in the Middle Plus Khazal Butts you know PA isn't Pa no more so this boils down to Denver in Utah and I love the construction of this Denver Roster I utterly love it I love the way that flay I I think they play a little bit too slow but I love the construction of this Roster Trammell Mary is an emerging star at the Point Guard position Gary Harris is another of those wildly underrated players know small forward is interesting maybe we'll Barton starting rather than off the bench maybe he's keeping that position warm for Michael Porter Jr. to step into it but there's talent there Paul millsap is is the old pro at power forward now Jeremy Grant backing up that power for position to and I think that's going to be an invaluable piece because grants is super switchable defensive player and a there's the center who NBA General Managers voted as the best center and basketball just recently and that's Nikola Yokich so love the Stanford team think we get a little bit carried away with the additions that Utah's made my Conley's a nice player he's not a superstar are he's not Donovan Mitchell we'll see how he emerges if if that three point shot becomes more consistent than we talking about a guy who's in contention for maybe being the best shooting guard in basketball but look I hey I'm just a while hypothetical say our guys to go from thirty four percent nine percent for that to be be the case do you okay let's Talk Donovan Mitchell do you have a problem with him or do you not I don't like him because of the thing with Ben Simmons well I think that's started it but I mean honestly as you as you washed attempt to progress this year as as or this past year as the jazz is like go-to Guy the guy doesn't have it there's something about him what does he have like he has these games world score like thirty points on forty five shots no assists and there's something about his game that I just don't I can't figure out and then I don't know whether it's poor shooting or passing I mean if you watched any of those those games team USA really struggled in the World Cup just a few weeks ago now the stretch of those games Donovan Mitchell was a detriment more than he was a help in those costly turnovers bad shot-selection disappearing on the defensive end I mean it was it was rough now unlike you I actually liked the addition of Mike Conley and the have you know sneaky editions like a true backup center and Ed Davis for Rudy Gobert navis is a guy that grinds I feel like he's on a different team every year and he's just he just reliable to go in there and bang pick up some fouls pick up some rebounds he doesn't necessarily have to score but you know he shoots well for the takes knows what his role is these guys just keeps going from team to team two team you still love angles still have moody out there kind of role in unsual of Emmanuel Moody in the NBA At least not Utah I just too many people ahead of them especially now at this point other guys another weird it's like weird point guards that never made it land over Utah I think it might be the career thirty two percent three point percentage rated Jamal Mary had a very very very very very good year last year but I need to see him repeat that performance I mean he was shooting the lights out during last season as long as he can carry that over then I'll believe in them a little bit more Yokich obviously excellent you know I don't I don't necessarily like the blazers as much as I think some people do I think at a certain point there's a run its course type thing and I think last year might have in that year they made it to the to the Western Conference Finals Albeit Lewke. Whatever you want to say it's just it's one of those things where I think that core can only do it for so long and we may see some some fractures as we head into this season if there's not a fast start up in Portland or maybe I just wish that for all the blazers fans that I know you're a big Guy I've a lot of weird connections.
