Sluggish Chiefs beat Broncos for 15th straight time, 27-24
"The Kansas City Chiefs scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to come from behind against the Denver Broncos and win 27 to 24. After taking over for the fired Nathaniel Hackett, it wasn't the outcome Jerry Rosberg was looking for. I see it a bunch of talented players that need to come together and need to play with fundamentals and need to understand complimentary football. Entering the fourth quarter, Kansas City trailed 1713, which is quarterback Patrick Mahomes through a 17 yard pass to tight end Blake bell to grab the lead for good. Greg eklund, Kansas City

Gabe Eltaeb: The Importance of Hero Storytelling
"Was that like for you, Gabe? I mean, you know, getting that job and being able to illustrate and tell the stories of those heroes that you grew up with. It was amazing. It's like imagine we all wanted to be a ballplayer where a little, but two dreams for me were defensive ends for the Denver Broncos or comic book artists. I got one of them. I'm a big guy. I'm 6 foot four, played a lot of football coach for a lot of it. But imagine you go on your favorite team, Todd, and not only do you get to your favorite team, your favorite player is the one that picks you. That's what happened for me. Generally personally hired me. My favorite artist from when I was 12 to work in his studio and joined DC Comics. So that's what it felt like. It felt like a humbling blessing. It was so amazing. Comic books are an original American art form. There have been invented about a hundred years ago in this country. And so I took a lot of pride in that. I take a, this is our cultural heritage. And stories about heroes are so important. And identity politics are ruining everything. Someone told me a great CF Lewis quote that we don't tell children fairytale to tell them the dragons are real. Children no dragons are real. We tell children fairytales to tell them dragons can be slain. And when you see Superman in Batman and Luke Skywalker in Indiana Jones and all the classic heroes of yesteryear overcoming their own fear, standing up to evil, even though they could be killed in prison, ruined whatever, they still stand up and win and that tells all of us, we can stand up. So that's what I did. They started getting a little woke 2013 14, a little more a little more and I kept my head down. I'm like, well, it's not the comics I'm working on. Kind of weird, and it was a quarter of our books, half the books. And now they've gone nitro crazy. It's all the books are just identity politics. I am Mexican and Libyan. My father escaped Gaddafi's socialist regime. They murdered my dad's Friends and my grandfather, he got hit by a car by accident because my dad was speaking out against Gaddafi. I do not come from cowards. But we stand up to these people that want to silence and cancel. And we canceled a chance lose. And we always follow the law, but

Seahawks survive Russell Wilson's return, top Broncos 17-16
"The Seahawks spoiled Russell Wilson's return to Seattle with a 1716 victory over the Denver Broncos Geno Smith who had to fill in the vacancy when Wilson was traded to the Broncos in the off season passed for 195 yards and two first half touchdowns People can write you off but you know life's about what you make it And so I've just been blessed enough to be in the NFL for ten years and been working my butt off and it's a team game and we got to win tonight as a team Wilson passed for 340 yards and a score as the Broncos piled up 433 total net yards but Denver failed to capitalize turning the ball over twice with fumbles at the Seattle goal line Jim Bernard Seattle

"Man, first of all, he's funny as hell. And second of all, he did not have a concept of hey, Steve, you know, I mean, Keith, you put a headset on to keep it on during the podcast. Here he is taking it off, going to get all his Taliban and Afghan related stuff. And everything else. And he gave up a lot of money. And a big career to become to go to going to law enforcement. Oh, you're not kidding. If you didn't know this already, you don't go in law enforcement to get rich. If you're going to be an honest guy. Now there's some douchebags out there that do. But what it was, so when we interviewed somebody for our listeners, we actually see them on video as we're speaking, but we only record the audio portion. And the background his office at the Denver Broncos training camp looks like a museum in there. Holy cow, he's got more crap on his walls and on his shelf on the desktop. I'm not sure how he finds any workspace to work. And that's what it was. He was so excited about showing us the things that he had available and I mean, you could just tell the guy who just was pouring his heart out to us. But you're right, man. Next time we're sending my headset, we're going to get a chin strap or something. I can't take it off. Yeah. Well, he played apparently, he played, apparently he took his helmet off in a few games too. I had to edit out a lot of the. Leave me out well, but just truly, I can't tell you how what an honor it was Keith to have you on the show. Thank you, brother. I'm sure we'll be in touch in the future. He owes us an interview with John elwood. He said he was going to do it. I'm curious to see if he brings him on or elwood from The Blues Brothers. Well, either way, elwood, if you're listening, we got a headset for you. Just remembered, leave it on your fucking head. There you go. There you go. Great interview though, honor. Great interview. Hey, and guys, as you're hearing this, as this episode drops, it's going to be Memorial Day of 2022. So that's why it's a conference with close to a thousand gang and narcotics investigators around Southern California. I've heard a lot of stories just talking these guys in the restaurants and the bars and that in the hallways at the conference site. It's unbelievable what goes on out there. I mean, what a violent place that is out there. And you got all these dedicated heroes. And I'll tell you in keeping with our collection of practical jokes because you heard Keith bishop played some awesome. This guy has got a level practical jokes. I am going to get somebody down there to where Apollo club to record a podcast episode. So we can protect their identity. You're going to get our asses kicked out there. "This is your rookie year, right? 1986, or is this your second? Oh, no, no, no. 6 years, 7 years in. My rookie year was 80. Oh, yeah, that's right. Okay, so that was the first strong suit in college. You can tell. I've only got 5 fingers on one hand, you know, so I can't have four fingers and an opposable thumb, but it's minor difference, or go ahead. But the reason I'm bringing this up now is this is what we're getting ready to go into in DEA career is leadership principles here. You are down and out. You're getting shit thrown at you on the field. You got the other team laughing at you. It looks like there's no way to win the game. You're in the championship game. AFC championship game. And you've got the presence of mind to come up and say something funny. Whether you intended it to or not, that's what broke the tension and the despair on your team and the huddle that brought you guys back to win. And then you're going to select it. You got to give number 7 a little credit. What was his name? John. We will send him that clip. John elwood, said by the former vice president for security of the Denver Broncos. It would have Blues Brothers. You're repeatedly being selected to be a team captain, which shows the outstanding respect your teammates have for you. And this is ladies and gentlemen, you're getting to hear you're getting ready to hear how this is going to continue on into his DEA career. You don't give yourself credit, Keith, you never have you worked for me and I was blessed to have you in the group, but you never wanted to touch your own horse. I won't teach a damn horn for you today. That's code. Be careful what he means by that. Well, never mind. I'm not going to go there. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I shall say, if you were in Kansas, it might mean something different, but Keith has exactly what I mean. Let's get into the good stuff because we have to always ask one question of the people go through the DEA academy. When you graduated by the time you graduated, how many memos did you have to write Keith? You had to have been picked on a little bit because these instructors know you might be a big guy, but I got the power. When I first got there, they were all after me. And I was told. Our class coordinator was Tina Lewis. Was it Matt loses? Matt Murphy, Tina Murphy. Oh, man. There you go. Okay. Matt and Tina Murphy. Tina Murphy was our class coordinator. And she pulled me aside. Is probably after four weeks, 5, 5, four, 5 weeks of academy. And she's cool. We're doing one of those runs. I don't know if I don't think it was the FBI lollipop trail, whatever it was, but yeah. Yellow brick road. Yellow brick road. And but anyway, we're doing a long distance jog or a distance jog. And she's like, Keith, can I ask you a question? Yeah, and I go, sure. And she goes, we too hard on you guys. I don't know. I go, it's not easy but I go, this is not too hard. I mean, the physical part of it, the mental part. I go, I've been through ten training camps, and I go, that's hard. What you're doing here, you're pushing it, but it's not, because there was accusations being made by some people. And so I guess that's the reason that she was asking me that. And against them as the instructors. And she goes, well, she goes, I don't know if you've noticed, but we've been after you pretty hard. These first few weeks. I go, yeah, I figured so, and she goes, well, in fact, we all had a bet who would be the one that would get you to quit. And I ain't quit, and she goes, no, we know that. We know that now. But she goes, that was so, yeah, they were, they were after me pretty hard. I mean, it was, but it wasn't anything malicious or it was the way I perceived it in the way I took it and the way I totally felt that the focus they had on me was to listen if this, I guess I should first advance I go. First thing they thought I was black. The NFL and I saw and I flew my own learjet. To Quantico to go the academy. So that was kind of the stories that were, you know what I'm saying? Oh my gosh. And so it was like, and then after that, I had a blast. And I remained respectful and I didn't, I mean, she didn't say, oh, you got it made or anything? Because you still had to make all the BT stuff and the exams and all the other. And the shooting and all that stuff. And so it was, but it was she was just letting me know that the kind of the little bullshit on the side that was kind of over as far as they didn't feel like they needed, they knew that in my heart I wanted to be one of them. Right. And so would you agree with what I'm getting ready to say here is that I mean, here you're coming in, a sports star, you know football. You know football inside now, but you don't know much else. That's what you know. And you've made it to that elite. I mean, the freaking elite levels of the National Football League. And now you want to come in to a position as a law enforcement officer where you're going to have to put up crap, put up with crap from people in the street that anytime before in a football game, you just knock them out on the play. And on the street, you got to take it sometimes. And were people's lives. Exactly. So you agree with that, I mean, it was probably probably worth picking on your harder than anybody else, but they wanted to make sure that you could fit into the mold. No, absolutely. Absolutely. And I think it sold a lot of my classmates. As well as, I mean, shit, there was always in there. There was a sweeten was one of my instructors. Piece of piece of work. Oh, for years. And I'm trying to think damn. Griswold was one of my instructors. I thought it was Clark griswold. I thought we were going to have lambdas Christmas vacations. So the griswold. I mean, I'm drawing a blank, but there was others that were Kim Larry loveless, you're talking about some legends in DEA now. Yeah. Shut. The head of the academy was and I mean, and then, you know, my coming out, then we're not there yet, but my first boss is Marty. Wow. I have Marty for my first 5 and a half years on the job. It's like having whitey Duvall at the Broncos from offensive line coach, but only got him for one year. I had Marty.

"Really my first year I played. I was in one or two games with my freshman year on varsity at Nebraska. And then they moved me back to the freshman team, which was good because it was a solely a freshman football team that you went around and played equivalent competition. And then at Nebraska. And then my sophomore year, I didn't get to play much. At Nebraska. And then. Red shirted at Baylor, and then I played that next year, which would really that was my first year of play. And then my senior year, I got hurt in the first preseason game when precede, non conference game, blew me out, and so I didn't play my whole senior year until the bowl game. I got to play in our bowl game. We played in the peach bowl against Clemson. And then I got drafted after that. No, did you win? Yes, I came here with the score was now, wait a minute, so you first of all, you injure your toe, you lose a lot of offers. And then you only play a couple games at Nebraska, not too much the second year, you read shirt, you play a year of Baylor, then you blow out your in a non conference game and you still get drafted early? Well, I was 6 round. That's not early. Well, I meant, but she went early. When I say early, but you finished your senior year, you graduated from Baylor. Well, I had to go back to graduate. That's a whole nother good story. But because that's what I mean by you left early for the draft, right? You didn't complete calls? No, no, no, no, no. 5 years. I mean, well, I didn't play that, I guess now you'd probably be able to play another year because but back then, I'd already read shirted. Yeah, so one year of eligibility. So you got 5 years to do four and going into my 5th year to do my fourth year of eligibility. I blew my knee up. So I was, you know, and then I got to play in the postgame, postseason game against the peach ball Clemson. It's Clemson. I don't like Clemson either. So we have something in common. No offense to you Clemson fans out there. But I don't think it's going to be a good year for Clemson this year. But we'll see. Anyway, I digress. Rebuilding, rebuilding, rebuilding. Yeah. Hey, but in spite of all of that, still the 6th round. I mean, you think about all the people who play football, high school football than those who go to college football and then those who even make it into the NFL. So even the 6th round is like, you're still the top 1% of the 1% that are getting picked. I mean, even with a blown out knee, how did that happen? You must have played one heck of a game and then bowl game for them to put you in a draft after you've missed a whole year. Yeah, I don't know. Like I said, I'm very fortunate. And that is thing that was very fortunate about was that why did Duvall was the offensive line coach for the Broncos. And he came down, worked me out at Baylor. I mean, and basically kind of talked with me and he had already watched film and everything. And he was one of the great offensive line coaches in NFL. And he had come from New England with red Miller. And so he, I think, he pushed for me as well to get me. He's since passed. But my rookie year I had wide his mouth. It's flying coach for at the Broncos. And I was very fortunate to have him as a rookie. You had red and whitey. Blue. Blue. Well, let's talk about what it's like to be a rookie in the NFL. In those days, everybody you had to have actually one of the guys I used to work with a long time ago played with the Dallas Cowboys. But the minimum, I think salary when he was there was like 75,000. They had a minimum salary right for anybody who went to the NFL. Oh yeah, yeah. And then. My signing bonus was think 17,500 and then my. First year, I signed a two year contract, I think my first year was 30,000 my second year was 40,000. And my signing bonus was 17,500. No wonder you had to go work for the government. You had to be able to make a living. Jeez. You know, besides the 6, I don't know what the, you know, the first and second third round draft choices were getting back then, but probably a lot more. So tell us, what's it like to be a rookie in the National Football League? I mean, we hear stories, you know, I live in loudoun county, so now they're called the Washington commanders, but they were the red skids and had we knew kids who worked down there and some things are fun and some things are like making the rookies buy everything. You go out with them as like, hey rookie, you know, pay for this, pay for this. So what was it like to be a rookie with a Denver Broncos? And what year was that? What was your rookie year? 1980 was my rookie year. And they didn't, well, you had to get up and sing and training camp and sing your fight song college fights on and it was, it was hard. I mean, it was training camp was tough back then. And did they have a Greeley Colorado? Well, no, my first two years, it was in Fort Collins. And Fort Collins was great because it was right up against the mountains and you'd have that weather come in in the mornings. It was cool and overcast. And then in the evenings, when you go out for your second practice, because back then you had two hard practices a day. And they'd come in and then you'd have more weather generally come in. Sometimes it's pretty bad thunderstorms. And like that, but you had the weather impact. Now, when we moved to Greeley, you're out in the stockyards, basically. And that's the smell of money, baby. Cattle. Yeah, but I mean, it got hot. I mean, really? But it's the thing that's so great about Colorado is you got to deal with the altitude. But there's no humidity. So you're not battling that in cold or in heat. You're not battling the humidity. You're battling the elevation. And I was in really good shape rookie year, but man, I remember coach Miller just laughing because he was monkey get on your back because I mean, you're doing your drills and everything and then you had it always had to do sprints and stuff and it would just, it would hit and you thought you were going to die. You thought everything was going to come out. You know, your lungs, but you get used to.

"Left. And I was, I didn't get along with the head coach at Nebraska. Was that Tom Osborne at the time? Yeah. Yeah. And so it was and then my mom was sick. And with cancer. And so it was the spring at this spring game and me and another player whoever this might sophomore year going into my sophomore year. And whoever knows going after my freshman year sophomore year. It was whoever scored the best in the spring game would be marked for sinner, starting center the next season. And I had a very good game. And spring game. And the grades came out and I was not going to be the starting center. And it was like, well, this is bullshit. And. Old players, I mean, that were seniors graduated with Rick bonas and Vince ferragamo and different guys, they were like, dude, this is bullshit, you know, you need to leave. And so it's like, you know what screw it, I'm gone. And so I was just going to go home, my dad was an architect, had a construction company in Midland. And my mom was sick, so I was like, you know, I'm done with this. I'm going home. And so I get home and I'm going to start working with my dad, and he's like, and my mom are like, you can get your schooling paid for. Don't be stupid. Go to school. And bailor had recruited me. I was heavily recruited coming out of high school. So that's when I went to Baylor. Before we get too far in, how many offers did you have coming out of high school? And why did you pick Nebraska? Because by the way, you know what, the amount of Nebraska's helmet stands for? Knowledge. Knowledge. See, you know. I'm not stupid. I know how to spell. But anyway, my senior year, I was very highly recruited, and in practice, I got kicked in the side of the foot, and it broke my little toe. And so I had a break on the outside of your little toe, and the tendon that attached to it, and it pulled it back. So the doctor said, take two weeks off. And then you can start playing again. So I took two weeks off. Well, all these schools, I mean, I had, I can't remember how many how many schools were recruited me. Is all over the country. And everybody quit talking to me, except for Nebraska. I mean, everybody. It was like. Because of the injury? Yeah, because of broken little toe. And it was like, well, you know, they probably all they're saying it's a little toe, but what is it that really wrong with the kid? No. But anyway, Nebraska always kept recruiting me. And plus the guy that was recruited me from Nebraska, Jerry Moore. He went on from Nebraska to Appalachia state and setting coach there. Greg guy, but he played for my high school coach in Bonham, Texas. And so there was a little more knowledge sharing and so Jerry always kept recruiting me strong. And so that was kind of the determining factor why I'm going into Nebraska. And then after I got there and then went through whatever. And then when I went back, it was like, well, you know, my old high school offensive line coach was now coaching at Baylor. So I got ahold of them and said, hey, I want to walk on, you know, Baylor if you have to let me. But the problem back with the NCAA in that day, right? Was you had to sit out of here, didn't you? It's not like the transfer portal. Now you had to sit out for a year before you could be eligible, right? Yeah. And I did have to sit out. I mean, be red shirt. That was my red shirt year was sitting out. But you could still go to practice and do stuff, right? Yeah, you were a practice like in the NFL. You were a practice squad guy. You ran plays against the defense and so you were the Rudy rudiger for the Baylor bears. Yeah, and in fact, I won the golden egg for that year for being a good practice guy. The golden egg or something like that, it was something golden. The golden turkey, good egg. You're a good egg. It was like, I got a little trophy. I think I still got it. But it had diapers on it. And it was like, yeah, it was, I mean, Baylor, I love Baylor. I'm not bad. This I grew up church of Christ. You know, the holy rollers and went to Baylor and Baylor's baptist centric school, but back then in the late 70s, when I was there, it was like 50% were baptist professors and 50 cent were 50% were whatever and it was like if you cheated and got caught, you were out no matter who you were and you know I got caught cheating one time, but I didn't get kicked out because I even copied the person I was cheating off of in the name slot. I copied their name on the name slot too. That really helped me. Truly stands for knowledge. Yes. You have relied on Nebraska. That really did happen, but it wasn't me. So then I went to Baylor. But how many offers do you think you would have had coming out of high school? I don't know. Because my coach kept them all. He didn't give any to me till after we had finished our senior year. Oh, okay. So I had a stack, you know. You should have went to all I can tell you you should have went to Notre-Dame. I had letters from Notre-Dame. Well, you should win. He was smart enough to turn down the other day. That's not South Carolina, Steve. Southern California. That's not you. Come on, man. And it has been, I think, 1122 days since USC last beat Notre-Dame. So we're going to keep the street going. So anyways. Well, and then one of our players we just got was talking today or yesterday, day four. Anyway, on an interview and he was talking about all his family were all University of Southern California, guys. And girls. And he went to UCLA. And he goes, yeah, but he goes, we beat him this past year. I think he said, we put 60 on him. So I didn't obviously I didn't follow the game or anything, but he said his family, none of his family would speak with him, so. You always have great college stories. And I bet you there were some good rivalries down in Texas too that could rival that. So, but you did that year or so now it would be kind of what your fourth year of college, you're actually playing your third year football, right? Yeah, but it's my.

"So, before we get started with this Murph and I were thinking about picking on our next guest, but before we do Keith, in your day, how big were you? It's not a trick question. Well, I mean, what are you talking about? How tall are you? 6, 6, three. And how much did you weigh? Two 82 to 87. All right. And played which position for the Denver Broncos? Offensive guard. That's why we're not going to pick on him. He used to beating up people in pads and helmets for a living. Going backwards. I will tell you this man has the biggest freaking hands I've ever shook in my entire life. It's like a bear paw. Well, by the way, let us get started though by welcoming everybody. And welcome, this is going to be a very interesting story because we've never had this combination of talent before somebody who played college football played professional football and then decided what the hell, you know? Let's go be a DEA agent. So Keith bishop, welcome to the podcast. Thank you for having me. You say that now, pal. Wait, just wait. Give us two hours. Real quickly, what was your number? 54. 54. Yeah. Did you like it? It's amazing how that works out. 24 in your program number 54 in your program. And 54.1 in your car. And did you play with Elway? Yes. All right, we're going to have to get into that in a minute. But let's just ask a quick question. Who was your best man at your first wedding? One of my high school buddies. And who else was in the party there? No, I was in there. No, no, I didn't know him, Neil. Let's go off and way back. John has not been John and I'm been budged for shut next year before years. Since you were protecting his butt when he was playing quarterback and you were on the line. I was trying. Yeah. Well, before we get though into a digression over towards pro football, let's talk about how you get started in this whole thing because you attended a university that wasn't really known for football. During the time that when you were there, it was it? Still isn't known for. Oh, they did. They kind of peaked and then now they're kind of they're part of the big 12. Look, I'm from Kansas originally. So I suffered too with the Kansas mild cats before they became the wildcats all over again, but how did you get so you started you went to Baylor, right? So let's talk about that. Well, if you want to really be interesting, not that I'm going to educate y'all on being interesting because your success speaks for itself. But I started off playing high school at the bad guys on Friday night lights at Midland Lee. High school. Damn. Oh, wow. So the real Friday night lights. So it was Midland and what was the other one Permian? Permian. It is the movie, the show is about Permian high school, which was our arch rival that I was Midland Lee. And in the film, the bad guys are Midland Lee. How accurate of a movie was that? How could the Billy Bob Thornton do? It's the college. I was blessed honest to goodness. I was blessed that Jim acre who's passed was my high school coach at middle league, and he's a legend in Texas, high school football. And I was fortunate enough to have him, and I'm thinking back then, 'cause I think the show takes place a few years after I'd gone. But they take their football seriously down there, don't they? Oh, yeah. I mean, it was like businesses would change hands. You know, I'm bets and or at least they're rumblings of businesses. Changing hands on bets and stuff. There are high school football games. There are high school football stadiums down there that would rival some of the college stadiums in terms of they may not see this many, but man, they are ornate. They are decked out, aren't they? Yeah. It's changed so much since because and I honest to goodness I can not remember how many old Midland memorial stadium held that were I played my 10,000 but 10,000 at a high school. Well, I think now it's the stadium there in middle and 30,000, something like that. It's a good thing. You know, and you're talking to back when I was in Midland. 60, 65,000 was the population in Odessa, which was always bigger, was I think 80,000 or something. And 90,000 or something like that. Now, I think Midland's up over a hundred and I don't know what a death is. So you got that Permian Basin, you know, that area where it's holy cow. That's all there was. I mean, so you play the same position in high school? Now, hang on a second. We got a little interruption. Go ahead. Oh, we are in the middle of a high security incident. Roughly around two 30. I'll bring him in, or give him an upstairs. Okey doke, I'm kind of at a communicator for the next hour or so. But I'm in my office. Sorry about that. Well, let's just tell people, the reason you had to answer that is because what is your current job right now? I'm vice president of security for the Denver Broncos football club. There you go. There you go. I mean, just think about, I mean, I can't wait for our listeners to hear this whole story because here's a guy who's a very close friend of mine, but has done things that we all dream about doing. I mean, you know, going to a major high school holy cow that seats the stadium seat in ten to 30,000, maybe up to 80 to a 100,000. Because the NFL plays college football, goes early to the NFL Draft, becomes a DEA agent because back to NFL football. This is going to be one of the best interviews we've ever done right here. I'm very fortunate. Well, let's talk about what I mentioned how humble he is because I explained his. I'm not bullshitting. He's very humble. Now, you played the same position in high school that you did college and pros? No, I was, well, I was a defensive lineman defensive tackle in high school. And then I played offensive center in high school. I was like, back up center. If emergency situations, you know, which never happened. But then I played some guard too. Well, yeah, so anyway, but I was defense. And then I went out of college. I went to Nebraska initially. And was defensive lineman. And then they moved me to offensive lineman at Nebraska. And I was there for two years, and then I.

They noticed the light pole was missing from an area on top of the bridge. This one's pretty easy to spot. There's only one car with the light pole on top of it. They stop them, took them into custody, so Victor Walter at color and Blake Lee Waller, 42, were arrested. The pole was valued at 2500. They were charged with a lot of things. In fact, they found out the officers did a pond database search and learned that Apple had 72 scrap metal related transactions since January. And this was in September. So this guy is stealing and selling shit left and right. Oh my gosh. Again, rocket science is out there. Nobody gonna notice that, well, how tall is it a lightbulb? 20 feet? Probably a little bit longer than that. Yeah, it was about twice as long as the car. There's a whole separate class of stupid right there. I mean, think about the dent in putting the top of their car. That's why they're not rocking scientists. Okay, well, I got to say something though about that light pole story in Jacksonville. I've been thinking about flora, there are some crazy things go down here, but you can live in a boring state or you can live in a state where stories are told every day about what goes on here. I like it here. Yep. Well, that's what we call it Florida man. So hey, as we thus into the reading for today, nominated nominated Donna a is requiem. I keep getting my Latin there. A pro football player that played on Super Bowl teams didn't win any, not till later, but still, you're at the elite level. Dude was just, he could have stayed in the NFL for a long time, but he reached a point and decided what the hell let me join DEA and go visit countries like Afghanistan and drug cases. So Steve, this is your guy. Keith bishop, man, former offensive lineman for the Denver Broncos playing with John elwood. He said elwood, I thought it was Zoe, but he'd say hello. That was funny. I'll tell you what. I am so excited about having him on the show. And you got to understand Keith. He's one of the, he's huge. He's a massive man. He's got hands like bear paws. He is one of the most gentle giants who ever made till he gets low. Maybe a little bit to drink or I wouldn't want to piss him off to find out. But it's just so exciting to have him get on here and Taylor store ten years in NFL Pro Bowl or selected for the Pro Bowl twice. And he chose to go help his fellow man. He's going to hear his story. He's been a kind of a cop buff for a long time. But you know who benefited from all this? Is the citizens of the United States as well as the countries he worked in. One hell of an investigator, one of the most dedicated people I've met. I used to get emails from him or text messages at three 30 in the morning where he spent an all night in the office where we were working special operations division on an ongoing operations. Love this guy to death. He does not do interviews. I mean, you can Google the guy. You can't hardly find anything about him. But when we contact him, he said, hey, you know I don't do interviews, but for you guys, you got it. So just I'm just excited that I hope you can tell my voice here that I'm excited to have Keith on here. What a freaking hero in my eyes. And you can tell he doesn't do podcast interviews 'cause the guy did not have a concept of what we have headsets on for podcast interviews. You will find that out during the podcast. So hey, there's only one way they can hear about this, Steve, and I have to ask you, are you ready to play the biggest baddest most dangerous and football friendly game of all? The game of crimes. Here we go, where everybody get in, sit down, shut up, and hold on, mister bishop..

"Keith bishop talks about his decision to leave the Denver Broncos as the highest paid offensive lineman for the last two years and join the DEA. Were you at that point to where it was that bad or were you afraid of that? I was emotionally hurt. Okay. I mean, I've had a lot of surgery. I think that had 14 surgeries by then. But some of those are scopes and just change the oil in the knees and stuff like that. But I had some major surgeries too, like I'd ruptured a peroneus tendon in a foot and I'd have both knees reconstructed and I'd have my hand rebuilt and. The crux of separating us from others is the thumb and all that kind of stuff, but no, I had another three or four years in me. Giving my perception of giving so much and then getting too old and my last year and what do you mean by that you're getting tooled? I mean, too old or too old. Tooled. Screwed. Coach Chan Gailey on the Impact Dan Reeves Had on His Life
"You and I have mentioned an individual and he passed away recently a couple months ago. Dear friend of yours, someone that I looked up to because he coached the falcons and in Washington for his nails Dan Reeves. Dan had a large impact on your coaching career as well. I want to just start a little bit because I think mentors and Friends matter in this world. I think we don't talk about it enough. Talk about how Dan Reeves impacted you and football. Well, we talk about him being a mentor Doug. But probably people don't know we're from the same hometown. So he coached us in little league. He was, he was the guy that came back from college and went out and coached us summer baseball and stuff like that. I mean, the town of Americas would shut down when the cowboys would play when I was in high school. So that's the kind of guy Dan was to me growing up. And then he was kind enough to give me my first job in the NFL. And at the Denver Broncos, I went in coaching the special teams. I didn't know anything about special teams. But he trusted me. And I learned right then and there, that trust is a huge thing in the NFL. You need to have people that you trust on your staff. And I learned so much from him about organization about how to implement offense, defense, how to change thought processes of teams, how to organize practice. Things like that that were so foreign to me, not having played in the NFL. It was, it was an unbelievable experience, and he was a great Christian man. So I got to be around a great Christian man who was a great coach and learned from me and my first NFL job. And it was such a

"Call one eight hundred gambler so as much as we can say here that the the offense hung the defense out to dry. They certainly did make their own mistakes. We need to acknowledge. And discuss. And i think one of the big ones here that you guys really wanna talk about is those inefficiencies on third and fourth downs because there are a lot of times especially early on in the game where it felt. The defense was doing a really good job. They were making good plays. It was creating advantageous situations for the defense. And then before you know it teddy bridgewater find somebody for a first down on a passing play on third or fourth down and that even happened in the red zone for a touchdown to albert. Oh i'm not gonna try to pronounce his last name. But there were a lot of instances where it looked like. The defense had the broncos offense pinned and they made a mistake. That is something that really does. Need to be corrected coming into next week against the washington. Football team really needs to get corrected. Member this entire offseason. We spoke about how patrick graham is going to have the personnel to run man coverage. They added a dory jackson era. Robinson isn't there. But the addition of dory jackson over someone like is again. Item is a significant upgrade in terms of your defenses ability to ron man coverage. Well that did not necessarily materialize against the denver broncos. It seemed like the offense for the broncos bridgewater shurmur and these receivers they were so instinct with each other. The rhythm and the timing. The execution was just way too much for the giants man coverage ability because the giants. I mean they ran a lot of man. They run a lot of press man. It didn't necessarily matter because right when bridgewater would hit that back foot. The receiver would be turning into his break whether that be a hook whether that be a ninety degree cut whether that be a forty five degree cut it was enough separation bridgewater to find the receiver. Just seem like teddy was just sling it out. There in the quick game for broncos was working incredibly well against the giants man covered and then when they transition to a more zone based approach avoids in the zone bridgewater and the receivers were able to find them. It wasn't wasn't a great look for for a unit that we expect a lot from. I mean if you look at some of these stats. Just how the how the denver broncos we're able to just pick apart players like james bradberry bradberry targeted seven times. The allowed six receptions for sixty five yards and a touchdown jerry. Judy get opened several times courtroom sutton using his big frame against james bradbury bradberry line in the slot. We saw him a line on the boundary. Didn't necessarily matter in the safeties against these tight ends also was another mismatch that was exploited by denver. So i mean it's back to the drawing board for this team. People complain about the edge and how they weren't able to create pressure. But how can they create pressure when the secondary wasn't holding up their end of the bargain and this is a secondary that we'd expect to be pretty darn solid and they just did not show up in this game yet. Really the secondary is the. It's supposed to be the strength of the giants defense now. Yes a up. Until melvin gordon. Had that seventy are touchdown run. The giants run defense was pretty solid. They had a few plays where it was almost a a shoestring tackle to prevent a bigger gain. But against melvin gordon Williams you take what you can get but once they got tired. That was when the run defense book broke down in a big reason. Why they got tired is because the past defense was breaking down just about every drive. The game went into halftime with denver. Up ten seven but it really was pretty fortunate for the giants that it was only ten to seven. There was the one play where Honestly i was just sitting in my chair cracking up at it when teddy bridgewater is rolling out and tim. Patrick is breaking. Open down the field complete coverage breakdown on the back end. And the only reason it wasn't either a big gain or a potential touchdown was darnay homes his helmet and it would in the first half. It was things like that where the giants defense would just not be able to get off the field. You'd have these breakdowns in the coverage. Either the broncos would have just too many passing options for the giants to effectively cover all of them and they'd be able to find the voids in the zone coverage or yet they're timing would just be too good for the giants man coverage to disrupt and they would be able to do just enough to stay on schedule and then be able to find an open man somewhere down the field to convert a third down or occasionally a fourth down. It's it wasn't it was a very inefficient effort. When you look at final stats. It doesn't look as bad as it actually was. It's it's pretty alarming to see all those third longs in those fourth bounds. End up being converted credit to the broncos coaching staff for being aggressive. It really worked out for them. Richest kinda goes to show the confidence that they have. Teddy bridgewater pat shurmur. Ns offense to be effective in the most important situations and ended up a burning the giants. I guess you could say in the end for for sure and it's just. It was a disappointing affair. A lot of had a lot of good expectations for the giants defense. And it didn't didn't happen in week. One just didn't happen and it could have been a whole lot. Worse of logan ryan. Doesn't that take away. Credit to logan ryan for that play if cage. A hamblur doesn't drop a wide open touchdown blown coverage of we didn't see a lot last year but that was blown coverage so as a lot of uncharacteristic things that we ended up seeing from the giants defense week one yet and that does kind of go back to when we were previewing this game. We ask the question. Which quarterback would you have rather the broncos ride with drew lock with his athleticism just massive arm talent or teddy bridgewater. And you know. I think we all said that for the giants. Bridgewater was the worst option. Just because of how. How much of a veteran he is. How accurate efficient he can be. And that is what we saw nothing. The giants did really fazed him. They weren't able to get in his head. They weren't able to rattle him they weren't really ever able to confuse him with their coverage rotations. Like we saw happen quite a bit last year and that i think really was the difference in this game. Yeah the the broncos had a quarterback who i think he made one bad throw all game long and that was an under throw on. I believe it was Alberto who had gotten a step down the sideline and bridgewater hit the defender in the back between the numbers. And i think that was the only poor throw. I saw him make the other thing to just wrap up with a another final point on the issues that we saw from this defense. We were talking about before the show. And i even kind of highlighted that one touchdown player albert caught that touchdown on third goal. Was it a fourth goal. Or is it their goal. So forth down it was fourth and one they. They weren't quite. They weren't quite tied ten yards from the goal regard for at nine eleven. Right regardless that touchdown that albert. Oh had i think highlighted some of the issues that the giants had covering the broncos tight ends and you can point to the fact that shurmur did a good job of exploiting that but like what are your thoughts on some of the issues saw tight ends being covered by the giant safeties. Aaron man coverage djibril peppers being dropped down into the box to to man up on noah albert. Alberto just seem like that timing of bridgewater was was too precise for the coverage of the giants in man coverage..

New York Giants RB Saquon Barkley Questionable to Play vs. Denver Broncos
"Saquon. Barkley is listed as questionable after practicing all week. But i think really laura what they're saying to us is we have to list them on the injury report. The we expect saquon barkley to play on sunday against the denver broncos. I do not expect him however to be his normal one hundred percent workload self. The giants are being smart with him as they have all off season

"Down at the end of the game a big rushing. Play like the one we saw. Melvin gordon is a perfect example of them just being worn down for being on the field for thirty five minutes compared to the giants twenty four minutes. But i i hate to say this. And i am not trying to be overly negative but it just for me. It feels like we're watching a game from last season In the first few weeks of the air yeah. It really did feel familiar. Yeah there were some bright spots to be seen some some positives to be taken from it. Odd We'll get to it. But i'd say sterling shepherd and kennedy golladay to the biggest positives but then they were just so much sloppy. Play the defense breaking at just the wrong time The offense just never being able to find any traction at all end just some really terrible penalties exactly when they didn't need them and it was just really a lot of the same things we saw from last year in the score for b. super weird because like twenty seven to thirteen doesn't really feel indicative of how close this game was at halftime. And how closest game was in the first quarter and i think that that lead obviously expands with that. Seventy yard rushing touchdown. Melvin gordon had but this game was pretty close and it played out the way that we expected it to play out was which was along the lines of a close fought defensive battle and then whoever basically can break off one big play or dominate the time of possession. Which was the denver broncos going to win this football game yet. Denver did both and the time of possession going into the fourth quarter was just absolutely lopsided at that point. They had the ball thirty minutes to fifteen minutes yet. They possess the ball for twice as long as the giants had through the first three quarters. Yet that is that is just tough to beat when the opposing offense is basically suffocating. Your own offense or conversely your defense just cannot get off field yet. The giants has to do a good job of keeping things close yet. The broncos got in red zone. They were knocking on the door. The onto the red zone. They're knocking on the door of the end zone. Four times in the first half Only managed come away with ten points. At the logan ryan forced fumble. The giants head are sorry. Yeah they manage to hold them to a field goal on that first down on that first attempt so the defense did what it needed to do to start the game but when they're on the field just that long in eighty degree heat they're going to get tired and that's basically what happened. Yeah and one of the ways that they were able to basically wear them. Down is just effectively using the run game and i point to the opposite side of things for the giants run game. They did not do an effective job whatsoever. In establishing the run and then also creating chunk plays with the ron and we know that this this giants team is just not going to have success unless they can pick up a few good chunk plays or at least have better than three yards per carry the only rushed for sixty yards in this game in the leading rusher in it was daniel jones who goes six for twenty seven. That is very reminiscent of what we've seen in the past with daniel jones 'em this giants offense where they completely bottle up saquon barkley and as a result it leads to thirty seven passing attempts and some mistakes because daniel jones is trying to do too much. I also want to pinpoint and talk about here for a sec chris. It felt like. And i don't think this is to out of pocket for anybody who's tuning into this live or r- afterwards. I think that saquon barkley was very timid in this game. I don't think that he was playing the same way that we've seen him play when he was previously before the the acl injury. I'm not saying that. He's he's damaged goods and that he's not fully repaired. I think his knees completely fine. But i feel as though he had limited time to get ready to be in football shape and be ready to take on a full load of carries and touches so they gave him some limited action. They saw that he wasn't picking up a lot of yards and just over. I felt like he. He looked like he wasn't really ready to get hit. I'm not giving him a hard time. Because it's it is very very hard to come back from an acl and be fully ready to go. It is one of the most difficult injuries to recover from but it was pretty clear that the run game was just not going to get established against the team. That has a fairly good defensive front. When saquon just was not really mentally prepared. It might take him four to six weeks until he's back to normal of course i'll probably say that and he'll rush for two hundred yards next game but it probably gonna take some time. Yeah you know that is one of the things that people are always a little slow to remember with significant injuries. Like that is. The last bit to recover is between the years. You have to get almost an unconscious confidence in your body that you are not going to break. We were talking just before the end of the game. And i mentioned you bhagat so endzone views of barclay yell from him behind and i noticed when he was trying to cut. If you think back to even before the ankle injury a couple years ago he would drop down and he would almost be squatting on the ground and then exploded in a different direction yet today. He was not lowering his hips when he went to cut yet. He wasn't running behind his.

Big Blue View

"So i don't think it's too crazy to say here that both these teams coming into this game are equipped to be very very good defensively. And there's a strong possibility this ends up being a low scoring slugfest type game just based on some of the stuff that we've talked about here and if we're evaluating this this broncos defense it has to start with talking about their edge rushers as well as their defensive line and the obvious ones that will be talked about throughout the entirety of this game is von miller in bradley chubb. Both highly drafted players both highly talented players and have been when healthy very very disruptive when they're both on the field and so the giants gets face these guys week one when they're both available and ready to play. It is going to be a tough task for. What's supposed to be nate. Solder and andrew thomas for blocking both of these guys yet chubb is actually dealing with a i think a slight ankle tweak right now need in practice on wednesday that could just be the broncos managing his rep. So it's there's something to pay attention to men. How dangerous is a chris. Von miller and bradley job against matt pair needs solar and andrew. Thomas i mean. That's something that i'm i'm pretty concerned but not to mention the return of mike purcell. Who's one of their better nose. Tackles who can really anchor down the front defense. That is run a lot by vic fangio so this defense against his offense of lines due to the front against offensive line is something that ab i. I have some some some concerns about shirt. I think we have to start with those two edge rushers the last time those two guys were healthy together. Twenty nineteen they. Had i think twenty six and a half sacks between them up chubb has been getting better he had both at seven and a half sacks just all on his own last year without a whole lot of help from elsewhere in the defense von miller was missed the season with a dislocated tendon which ouch and they had completely different secondary that something will get to a little bit and not a whole hell of a lot of help from the offense so if those guys are healthy end clicking end we did get to see them in preseason von miller. He looked like he might have been a little bit rusty but a that dude has been so good for so long. I don't think you can plan on him being any less than his best but then they also have a shelby harassed sean williams dream on jones in their front seven yet. They've got a lot of guys who are really good at penetrating in creating disruption in the backfield and yet that has to be something the giants account for like. They're just not as about it scary too. I mean it's it's definitely that you think about this denver broncos front you think about bradley chubby think about bonn miller then you think about the struggles that you saw in a note was priests anything about the struggles that we saw from andrew thomas in the preseason it's that's definitely probably the main concern. I would say faida circle one liability at the giants have right now. Is the offensive line just in general. I mean you. Add billy price ben. Bredesen's possibly help the interior. They could realistically see snaps. Two and a half weeks removed from joining this swat. Just because we saw chamomile partially porn teller pendant. I mean how much is this guy going to be able to play on that. And i'm wondering how much just I i think the giants gonna come out and attempt to establish the broad. They're gonna attempt to push around this. This front and not allow von miller bradley chubb to pin the rears back rush on guys like you know a andrew thomas but in the situations where they are where third long and they're not able to get the run going giants are going to have to probably keep tight ending are running back into chip to help block to slow down those pass rushers Her might see a game plan. Similar to what we saw jason garrett run against the washington football team twice last year where it was a run heavy approach and not a lot of deep drops. Really just a lot of quick game. Just give the football out of your hands. To mitigate the effect of chase young montas sweat and he did a pretty good job doing it. So let's hope that. If jason garrett replicates we could slow von miller in bradley down i think just to to try to predict what vic fangio it's going to do and that is you know that might be a little bit of a fool's aaron because he is definitely one of the best defensive minds in the nfl. Yeah i think he's going to almost try to invite the run. Yeah he uses a lot of like almost five one type alignment in his new defensive fronts. Walking will linebacker. Down to the line of scrimmage but he even though they didn't they still kind of gave up a lot of yards on the ground last year when their defense is healthy. They've got the guys up front. Where even though it looks like. You're getting a light box. You really aren't. They're good at building that wall. Along the line of scrimmage. And you talk about shane. Lemieux with the partially torn patellar tendon. How much is paying going to affect him yet. You can be a tough guy but if your body doesn't wanna work right it's tough to will it. So this really is. I think the matchup debt could define the whole game and another thing to add in here too as well with this. This broncos defense another aspect that is just so strong is their secondary and we spent the offseason talking about how the giants rebuilt their receiver group. They made all these moves to signed kennedy golladay to bring in various tony. You've also got john ross. They signed in free agency. This is a completely new look group from what we saw last year. And we have high expectations but the broncos conversely they did the same thing with their secondary they made some moves to to rebuild that group and they have a pretty talented underrated secondary that they're going to be trotting out there on the field drafted patrick's retain top ten. They also they have. Is it key positions with kyle fuller and Ronald darby as well as justin simmons cadence turns we know is a very good athlete. Not necessarily the the best safety who plays on when he put brings it all to the field but a good athlete general so this is a very very strong secondary that the giants receivers are going to be facing off against. Yes the secondary with. Patrick 'certain on. I'm wondering how they're going to utilize 'certain just because i've heard rumblings that they're probably going to use 'certain in a role similar to To cover guys. Like travis kelsey end darren waller. The giants aren't gonna have ingram Allocate 'certain in that manner. Even if evan ingram was one hundred percent healthy so we may be looking at some 'certain covering kenny golladay. Who's coming off an injury looking pretty good from all the stuff that we're seeing in practice but other than 'certain is going to be as i you know action you have kyle fuller. You have ronald darby like you said. I mean kareem jackson. Justin jefferson or justin simmons. That is a really really solid back. End safety in the bryce callahan. Who a lot of people were talking about last year as an excellent slot. Type of cornerback. Who can probably cover sterling shepherding. That could be another match up to watch just from the top down. This defense is is very solid. The giants offense has question marks. And that's probably why we we want to discuss the concern that we have. Especially if they can't block von miller and bradley job. So i'm interested to see how jason garrett is going to use players like cadavers. Tony and how is he going to operate. Just the receivers in general but the snap counts. I'm wondering how much could area's. Tony is going to play how much they on barclays gonna play..

"There wasn't a lot of depth at that position. Dick around the vincent syria. I think there was one guy that went in. I route young serious. I'm curious away on a question for you the giants. What's the consensus from the the fan base about daniel jones. That's a guy that you know. Like i mentioned i. I watched some tape on this from from pat. Shurmur and then as rocco's country with a young quarterback drew lock. There's been this massive debate in how long you let a guy Go before you decide if he's the guy or not right if you've invested fix into How long be patient. Everybody's looking at josh allen who turned around his third year a consensus with daniel jones is or the giants fans wanted to be patient with him and i think the he can become guy or what the veiling sentiment. Oh i think the consensus is that this is new york and there's no consensus at all but now in all honesty the deal with with daniel jones is. There's a lot of talk. You mentioned josh allen. There's a lot of talk about about the josh allen. Esq year three leap baker mayfield took a big leap as well. And the one thing that i can say is that it. From an organizational standpoint. The giants are not confused. The giants are all in on daniel jones. Dave gettleman is still the gm who drafted him. Joe judge as head coach. Y- wasn't wasn't with the giants when jones was drafted but judge has been all in in supportive jones The giants went all out this off. Season bringing in kenny golladay You know bringing in kyle. Rudolph bringing in devante booker as a backup running back for saquon. Barkley They went drafting. Could area's tony. They went all in to to try to put weapons around him. You know that that can show once and for all whether or not. He's the guy. The general feeling i think is because this is also dave settlements fourth year as general manager and i think they in the giants had losing records each year. You know of gentleman's tenure and there's some impatience even from ownership there some impatience. John mara said you know he's tired of losing. It's time to win some games. It's time for us. We feel like we're making progress. But it needs to show up on the field and there is a feeling that there will be some changes. Maybe at the general manager spot maybe at offensive coordinator may be at quarterback depending on how this season goes so this could be a make or break season for daniel. Jones could be a if he shows you enough then he gets to be the guy for the rest of his rookie contract. If he has another ten or eleven touchdown pass season like he did last year. You maybe the giants are convinced that they go in another direction. They do have two first round picks in the in the twenty twenty two draft. So they could if they had to. They could package those to move up and get a guy and start over. I don't think they want to. That's not the direction they want to go in. Obviously but this is a huge year for daniel jones huge year for the giants in general just to figure out the direction of the franchise long term which is interesting.

"High hopes for either of those guys. I'll put it that way Gambling was a guy that i liked coming out when he was initially drafted versatility. But i think maybe he's been that versatility has been overused. A little bit is it. Seems like he can't really find a position. Is that think if i'm not mistaken. He's kind of floated around on the played all all over the place But we'll see how out i think. Probably fleming's maybe. Just as good a shot as bobby massey to the majority of snaps the The broncos are in a tough spot at right. Tackle those guys are for a reason and it was so late in the process. When john james got hurt in so you know. That's that's been something that the broncos fans criticize the front office or is that we've kind of known for the last two years the john james's injury prone we don't have a lot of tackle deaf behind him and they've asked on tackles in the draft and he came back to bite them this year. And so we'll see what happens. Hopefully they can get some meaningful snaps out of either mass. Your fleming at the right tackle position but if not they're going to be in trouble all i will tell i will tell you this in bronco fans this. I was actually happy a year ago. When the giants brought cam fleming into new york because for five or six years the first portion of his career he was a very good swing. Tackle a little bit of right little bit left. I think he's dabbled guard a little bit. I think is best. Position is probably right tackle. But i think that what we discovered in new york is kind of what we feared was because nate sold her opted out andrew. Thomas i think the original plan was for andrew thomas to start his career at right tackle. Andrew thomas you know fourth overall pick went to left tackle. Kim fleming moved in as the starting right tackle. This was the first time in his six or seven year career. That i think he had started more than six games. In a season started all sixteen games in the results just weren't good. I think he's he's probably a guy where you if i'm a broncos fan. I probably hope he's not my starting right. Tackle week one because he's a hate to me. He's a good fill in. He's he's a real because he's a hard worker he's pro. He knows what he's doing. He's just not that physically gifted he can probably help a for a game or two but but the more he plays the more he'll get exposed so so. If if i was you guys i would be hoping that. That did bobby. Massey comes in and impresses. Yeah i think that's the prevailing sentiment right now particularly with the amount of games the bassey has.

"In terms of just the The the mental accu men that daniel jones already had in terms of offensive schemes and being also pro ready type guy from a offensive installation standpoint. You lock was very much. Not that way in pat shurmur or came in knin. Didn't really dumb down. The offense for him and i think it showed that he threw a lot at lock in took drew. Lock awhile her. You know to get it and Really didn't start to click at all until maybe the end of the season win. Pat shurmur potentially shifted. Some things out been tried to simplify a forum in so you know it's it's kind of a mixed bag with shurmur is like you. You don't want him to dumb down the offense completely and you want him to get drew. Lock up to a pro ready guy but at the same time. I don't think there was a lot of adapting on pat. Shurmur point to injury lock with expecting drew. Lock adapted his system. We've seen that. That just doesn't work with young quarterbacks time and time again you have to tailor your system to to the quarterback i think how it worked with from lily's from what i saw you know interested in your perspective of obviously. You've watched a lot more giants than than i have with my saturday. Jones is it felt like daniel jones was more ready to take that challenge when pat shurmur kinda threw it at him and so you did see some success in insurers offense. I thought at least from the tape that i watched and It just didn't translate to drew. Lock so i think shurmur okay. Offense coordinator were fine with him. As with the broncos I think he has experienced boded well for him. After broncos ahead at first time on fits of coordinator enriched in gralow the Failed in so with a young quarterback we wanted a veteran offensive coordinator. That could maybe help develop him. So we'll see what happens this upcoming off season How camp works out. But i will say. I think teddy bridgewater probably fits at shurmur system better than drew. Lock guys and so not a Bridgewater's camp of of winning the quarterback battle. So i think probably shurmur in the same boat as vic fangio and.

"And in all of that. And so rocco's fans kinda went through it on you know. One point out with the shawn watson and then all the off field softening legal issues popped up and that kind of died down and then he kind of happened to ken. With aaron rodgers that an all-star back might become available and so broncos and i think a be all over it if a guy like that became available and somebody that would instantly turn the broncos into a play off and maybe even super bowl contenders just by signing his name on paper And so of course broncos fans are excited about it but at this point i think it. It's been such a waiting game such a big game of chicken between the packers in in rogers. It's it's kind of out of our hands. And i think the prevailing fi is the broncos would be interested and they would be willing to give a pretty significant hall if he became available but at this point in the off season. You can't count on that. And so i think broncos fans are kind of resign themselves to hey. Here's the two guys that we do have got a camp battle coming up in just a couple of weeks in if roger shows up you know. He'll he'll walk in maybe the the week. This season starts something in a guy like him. Of course he can jump in and pick it up. No problem but until something like that happens. I think broncos fans are kind of looking ahead at the guys that we have on the roster currently is the feeling you know in the bronco fan base that that denver is a team. That's really good enough to justify that. Move to justify giving up that big hall that they really could make themselves a in a true contender by making a move like that. I think so at least for particularly this season. And it's interesting. Because at the end of this i mean denver for as much as they haven't won in the last couple of years there this year at least on look like a team that is a quarterback away from contending with the kansas city chiefs at least in the division and maybe making a run for the playoffs when you look across that defense. You're returning von miller. You've got bradley chubb on the opposite side and both those guys haven't been healthy together in a vic fangio's defense and so if you can just keep those guys on the field rushing the passer. You've instantly got a an all-star defense right there just from pass rushing standpoint and their secondary with the moves that have been made with patrick ser tan being brought in and i mean i think it's the best safety tandem in the league in. That's i don't know that that's very arguable. The denver has in the secondary jackson justice simmons. And then you've got guys like kyle fuller who played vic fangio assist on bryce callahan. But there's a lot of question marks in terms of on paper. Everybody stays healthy. You've got a really really good defense. And von miller. You know it's come out and said hey this the best team that we've had in a while and so you.

"Family of podcasts. As we wait for the opening of training camp which is just about two weeks out at this point thought we would take a little bit of time to To look ahead to the upcoming twenty twenty one season for the giants. And i thought we would. We would talk a little bit about the upcoming season opener against the denver broncos on september twelfth and here to help me do that. Is jeffrey. Essary a podcast from mile high report espy nations website. That covers the broncos jeffrey. Hey thanks very much for stopping by absolutely thanks for happening so i warned you as we talked about this off line. I warned you that this question was coming. How on earth are the denver broncos five and eleven losers of five out of their last six games. How on earth are. They favored to come to metlife stadium and beat the giants in week. One you got you got you gotta you gotta explain this to me. Because i don't get it you know i'd like to come in here with the the orange and blue collar colored glasses a explain to you. I i have no clue either. Not sure what they're looking at I think there's so much up in the air. With the broncos did it's probably really hard to predict and so maybe that's why you know they're gonna throw on something against the wall or something. But i mean denver still doesn't know who their starting quarterback is going to the in so i think that's gonna be a huge factor in so we may see that shift I wanna have the broncos favor to go in week one on road and beat the giants in You know. I think when you look at paper. They're probably pretty comparable teams and so when you look at. The fact.

"So chris. I was referencing this before we started recording and before we unpacked the the aaron rodgers dilemma. If that's on the table. I think just overall the way i see this team. I think it's pretty steady for me if they currently stick with their quarterback situation and you have at least average to maybe slightly below average quarterback play. I see this as a bears team last year. Where they're going to be really talented defensively. They're going to be at defensive-minded team that is going to probably dominate and slow down some opposing teams. But at the same time you know they're not going to necessarily put up. A lot of offense of numbers are going to be capable and close enough to compete for a playoff spot with a very average record. But what's going to hold them back from really competing is probably going to be some hindrance at the quarterback position. So i i really see this team. Being a middling record type team next season. yeah. I think that's how i see them as well. You know kind of like the bears like washington last year where they've got a bunch of pieces in place. They've got an offense that i think is ready for a quarterback to take them to the next level. You know they've got jerry judy. They added devante williams. They added seth williams receiver. I liked out of auburn last year. They might have added a good piece offensive line and quin miners. And who knows maybe ted teddy bridgewater will help them or maybe drew lock will take that next step that everybody thinks he could be capable of but i think the way. Their quarterback situation stands right now. Teddy bridgewater should be that game manager. Steady but unspectacular drew lock. He could be really feast or famine as a quarterback bo. We're getting ready for this. I i went and looked up some of the stats in more advanced. Stats andrew lock and last year. Outside of garbage time drew lock was daniel jones. They're basically drew lock had a better. Epa expected points added per attempt than daniel. Daniel jones did mostly because he was attempting passes a lot further down the field. I basically nine yards two seven yards. Jones had a bit better success. Rate a better completion percentage again likely because he wasn't throwing as far down the field he was taking a lot shorter routes and Jones he didn't take deep shots very often but when he did they paid off. That's kind of where the two quarterbacks are there. Were literally twenty four and twenty five in this list. So i think the real elephant in the room and you mentioned it. Before is aaron rodgers. We know a iran is anything but grunfeld in fact i would go so far as to say is disgruntled in green bay and i think everybody right now is just kind of waiting to see what happens. Will he play this year. Will he played for green bay. We'll green bay trade him. You will aaron rodgers a hold out or joel. Corey the former. Nfl agent brought this up in a piece for cbs sports. Could rogers use the nuclear option. And opt out of the season because that would eliminate green bay's ability to basically use rogers contract against him and it would force green bay to play with jordan love who they traded up for in the was twenty twenty draft so could green bay go so far as to basically cut off their own knows despite the face of their franchise or would they treat him very late in the process which could kind of be a little bit of a screw. You get used to this new team with almost no time left and take whatever denver is willing to give us for you. There is a lot of intrigue with that situation. But aaron rodgers knows the west side the west coast offense inside outside back in front. They have pat shurmur. There that i think is a very very good offense. Coordinator quarterback fit where. I don't think it would take long for rogers to get up to speed in that offense and that could change the broncos season outlook completely but again. We just don't know what's going to happen there. Yeah yeah we don't really know what's going into this. Aaron rodgers trade deal. We don't we don't really know if this is actually going to happen or not. But there's a reason why the broncos have been one of the most projected teams to do it because as we mentioned the whole beginning of the show defensively. They're competitive team. They are good enough to do some serious damage but at the same time you know if they can get an elite level quarterback it's going to really impact the potential success of this team. If they can get somebody like aaron rodgers. they're going to be good. There's no other real team out there. Like the broncos right now in a position where if rogers is placed on the roster. They are competing for an afc championship. I don't think that's really too crazy to say they might be able to be more supportive than the packers are in right now that they're not trying to actively replace aaron rodgers is the other thing too and we've also seen a willingness to move on from younger guys in the move in the direction of a veteran when they did that with peyton manning so they're not going to be afraid to do it. There's a reason why keeps being floated out there. It's just you almost have to think and you and you said maybe they're trying to spite him by waiting longer and longer to trade him at the same time. The longer you wait the less you can get from the bronx of the packer. Packers less you can get from the broncos so right now there's a lot in the air. The window is closing for them to actually get something done. Rogers might end up actually suiting up and just playing for the packers. But if he's going to get moved. Denver makes a lot of sense. Yeah i think denver probably makes more sense than just about anybody they could make sense for. Maybe carolina or washington but green bay is not going to trade aaron riders in the nfc. They're going to get him as far away as they can. Because the last thing they want is to trade him have him basically pull a tom brady or a peyton manning and take his team to the playoffs and potentially knocked them out like it would be a nightmare scenario for green bay to come up against rogers in the playoffs. You know one in done and have him just full of spite and all but living to knock them out of the Out of the playoffs and said you know. I'll show you that. That is a thing. They're just not going to allow to happen so i think it would really come down to white. Denver is offering green bay comes to the conclusion that they can move on from aaron rodgers that jordan. Love is their future.

"Big news audio network. I'm joe deleon. Joined by purse baum as we continue our off season series previewing the giants opponents the twenty twenty one season from the perspective of analyzing how they performed over the offseason how they've improved in every headline that you need to know about those specific teams as well as a prediction of best and worst case scenario. So if you happen to miss the other shows we went through all of the various. Nfc east teams. We broke those teams down talked about their off seasons today. We're going to get into the first non. Nfc east team that being the denver broncos giants week one opponent so this is going to be you know an interesting matchup for the giants as they are looking to get the ball rolling. Start the season hot and not have to deal with too much adversity and hopefully finally get a win to start the season which seemingly has not happened for a very very long time. Now this broncos team is a bit of a mixed bag because defensively they're scary. They are very very scary but offensively when we get to the quarterback position. That's where things get a little bit sticky and referencing. What is so scary to me. Chris is they were already a really good. Well coached defense under vic fangio but the additions that they made through the draft and through free agency. Make them even better. Patrick 'certain was their first round. Pick the also signed kyle fuller and ronald darby who are both very good corners. They also were able to bring back von miller from an injury. Justin simmons was brought back on an extension. And then if you look at the draft. They drafted brandon browning linebacker from ohio state and cadence turns a safety from texas. Now both of those guys were not perfect prospects. They had some question marks. But i think the situation that they're being placed in because there they're two former five star recruits going to a team. That is very defensive minded. They're going to get on the field in vic fangio is gonna find ways to use them actively because they're good athletes and they're talented players but overall chris man this. This group looks pretty scary. Defensively yeah i would actually say just to go back week. Denver kind of reminds me of washington where they've got some pieces on offense but what you really have to pay attention to is their defense. You mentioned all of those. Db's they added retaining justin simmons adding patrick's retain the second adding kyle fuller heading Ronald darby adding cadence turns. They've added beirne browning who is a really athletic off ball linebacker probably a good fit for that middle linebacker position you know. I think we all kind of had some questions about his ability to read an offense but once he knew where he was going to get there in a hurry. And then i i would also add. They added jonathan. Cooper the defensive end out of ohio state which he's seventh round pick. He's not a great d- end. But i think just as far as inexpensive depth behind von miller end bradley chubb who had a solid season last year. They could certainly do a hell of a lot worse. And vic fangio is one of the best defensive minds in the nfl. So they're going to be a tough nut to crack defensively. I think the giants are kind of lucky that for once. They're starting the season at home. They're not having to go to denver where I'm pretty sure they haven't they haven't found out about oxygen yet right overall. I think would just makes this team very difficult to face for any offense. That's trying to get their footing underneath them. Circumstantially the giants have to run into this group in week. One which is going to make things. All the more daunting they are trying to completely redirect from how they performed poorly last year with all of these new faces that we've talked about so much during the offseason they wanna game like this to pick up some momentum week one by putting up some good numbers and it's not going to be easy to do that because of who they're facing in their secondary the talented defensive line that they have the talented athletic linebackers. They have there are a lot of names and faces in this group. That might cause some problems for the giants in speaking a little bit on the offensive side of things. They also drafted devante williams. Who was considered to be one of the best running backs in this class. A bit surprising for them to decide to take williams despite already having melvin gordon. That's going to be a really fun. One two punch for that broncos offense and not to mention of the bolstering of their offense of line which was decent last year not on the better. Half of offensive lines but decent. Got the job done. They were able to add quinn miners who everyone believes has a ton of upside if he can hit that potential that we saw at the senior bowl. Yeah definitely i think one of the interesting and we were talking about this before we started recording. One of the interesting things. Where will quinn minors play. They have lloyd cushenberry who a a lot of people. I think ourselves included thought. The giants were going to draft a year ago in the twenty twenty draft while the broncos have him in near as we can tell he was there center last year. But quinn myers is as you put it one hundred percent center so what is going to go on what is going to happen. How is their into your offense of line going to shake out because the giants defensive front is very defensive. Tackle heavy so that could figure pretty heavily into their the hell. The giants offense matches up with the broncos are sorry how the giants defense matches up with the broncos offense just how that interior offensive and defensive line. Matchup shakes out..

Why Aaron Rodgers Should Go to Denver
"Here's the way. I wanna finish this today. Let's put thirty seconds on the clock for everybody and kimberly. I'm going to start with you. You know one of the most common destinations we've heard for. Aaron rodgers is denver. So give me the case. In thirty seconds. Why aaron rodgers should want to be on the denver broncos. Let's go. I don't even need thirty. Three names true locked teddy bridgewater brett rippin that's it. Vn Your chance to get aaron rodgers. You get aaron rodgers because that decent. We've talked about all so long. That defense is set ready to roll. Get that offense together. And look if he wanted to throw in some names of some of the offensive weapons as well. If you give aaron rodgers those guys and then they could become household names right now. Maybe they are not but maybe they could. I like that

NFL Franchise Tag Tracker, Denver Broncos
"Own ego signing the franchise tag is gonna make you more money. In the long run. You will make more money off the franchise tag because you're still going to get the big money deal the next year or the year after. And it's interesting for like Dak Prescott, For example, he ended up getting the five year deal that Dallas ended up wanting simultaneously. He got more money up front. I mean, I think I remember he was six years ago. Control. They got everything they wanted out of exactly right. But on the other side, he had to wait for Patrick Holmes deal to come in. Yes, way for John Watson and better And that's you saying the market on Lee goes up You is an NFL team. You are one of two entities. You are the people that set the market or you are the people that are reacting to it. That's it. There is no in between, and so you can either get out in front of it and pay a guy and it's gonna be a cheap deal in two years. It's gonna be expensive. Looking at the front end. You're gonna get a little laughter when you sign it. And then two years and then your best bet go well, you got a quarterback, that's 80% of the market. Or you're gonna be. You know the team that it's reacting to the market and get going over pay for stuff. That's what happens. You know, the faster you get the deal done, the better off. You are period point blank end of discussion. By the way. Marcus may also got tagged today. So is it. We're tying to justice that was expected, You know, Like I said, I can't go to the particulars. But I had a great conversation there Senior bowl with Eric Burkhardt, who's Marcus Mae's agent? We're talking about the situation and everything, And I think those two safeties are eyeballing each other as far as what the contract Sorry. It's gonna be a question. Which team blinks first, but this was kind of like If we go back several years, everyone Dez Bryant and Marius Thomas. Both got tags. They both ended up getting their contracts done, but they literally got done within the same day. Well, it was pulled. Teams were waiting on the other one, You know, to kind of see the framework and see if they were the same ballpark. This deal done. And finally Jerry was, like, just do it here, you know, And that's and then the Broncos like, okay, we'll offer you that. It is very same thing crazy, so it might come down to the same kind of deal And if the Jets can get Marcus made done, they think Justin's will get done first, and I think it will get done early. Okay, So I think Justin's deal we've got well before the draft. Okay. All right. I like that. They've got to well after that to get it done. So that's just my hunch. Um, based on what I know about both sides of the situation and and again, it kind of comes back to the whole procedural word that was used. That was the word that the Broncos used. That's the word that we've understood this entire time. You've been listening the program, we said From a procedural standpoint, the Broncos will likely use that franchise tag for the second time on Justine Simmons is not the intense and not give him a long term deal. People are misunderstanding this situation, and I even had questions today about okay. Well, if they would've pushed back the franchise tag, maybe the Broncos could've gotten something done. Or maybe the Broncos should have tried to do something like the Cowboys were. This whole deal came together in like 24 hours. The fact is, if you You with the way it's supposed to be viewed, which is what the Broncos are doing. This is a we don't want you going anywhere. We don't want to risk getting to the final 11th hour and all of a sudden there's a paperwork issue, and we can't do a bill. That's exactly right. We do not want to risk that. We're not gonna stub our toe. And so we're going to go ahead and get this thing done now and understand they on the other side. The expectation by all parties involved is to get something long term done. Yeah, um and how it should be used by the way the doctor getting it done in 24 hours. I hate that. I hate that term because it's It's not really They were close last year last they were. They were close last twosome framework there, But I'm saying that like it really escalated over the last 24 hours. To appoint, at least at some of the reporting this out there really escalated over the last 24 hours that they were able to get to the finish line right before the franchise tag deadline, right, so that that's that's the thing Dallas has been called. They were close, actually Latin. Not last year, the year before last, Scuse me. Before the first tag that September. They were close. Stephen Jones, They believed they had it. They believed they had it and they were. There were some issues with length and and how the final two years of the deal were structured and all that kind of stopping. It fell apart last night, but they they thought Dallas thought they had it done. S o. You know, I'll just I'll just leave that at that. And we can we go up but a sparse the Broncos go. I have no doubts that they'll get this deal done. I really don't have 99.999999999% Sure they get this thing done, Okay? And then as far as

John Elway to hire new GM for Denver Broncos, surrender final say over personnel starting in 2021
"The day here in Broncos country, John Elway after 10 years In the GM role is going to be changing his role with the Denver Broncos. He is going to remain president of football operations, but they are hiring a new GM. Alfred. What do you want to see in the new GM? Uh, I want to see E guess a blueprint. I want to see the of continuous blueprint of the same players being drafted year after year. Time after time. Even when you add guys in free agency, they all fit the same mode. So you know what the players look like before. They even become part of the Denver Broncos and give you an example. We could talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers, and we can talk about their offensive lineman. We know that they're big. We know that they're quick and they're not really massive man who stay in place. You have to be able to move out of the blue print. There has been going on for a long time, right so We need a blueprint. We have to have a blueprint of what these players like. You can't get a guy who is a second round defensive lineman who can't play on the interior of the defensive line. If you don't play a 43 defense in the 34 defense, you need to have a big style guy. So way get threw out some of the You know some of the selections that we've had in the past because guys were good college players. If they don't get the blueprint and the model, then we probably won't have them as part of the franchise going for what they have to be in that. Category. Jo Jo Oils What are we doing
