Wall Street, keeping a close eye on debt ceiling talks in Washington. Today, President Biden and House speaker Kevin McCarthy are due to meet at The White House. McCarthy is refusing to raise the debt ceiling until the president agrees to cut spending. McCarthy says the two sides are nowhere near a deal, even though Biden insists progress has been made. This ignoring the problem, thinking it's going to go away, he could bumble his way just into a default like he did on the border. That's what we didn't want to have happen. So we raised the debt limit. We're protecting. I don't know. Maybe his secret plan is to wait till the last minute and pass our Bill. I'm okay with that. A Zachary canon over at the athletic in doing what needs to be done, which is not looked to like October in that in baseball, but just to get the first look at like may 15th. Where are we? It's been really cool. The celebration over these new rules and the joy of, I saw a ground ball last night that went through the infield, never would have happened last year. No, it's a celebration right now. I don't mean to use hyperbole, but I'm telling you the game of baseball has been reborn with these new rules, and it's making it more watchable, which is why I still can't understand why now we got a problem with trying to get the local affiliates to carry the games. This is the best time to do it. May I quote, Zach Buchanan, the athletic. Go ahead, dream the impossible dream. That the next picture in the Pantheon of Tiger Cy Young winners Denny mcclain Willie Hernandez Justin Verlander criminally left the tigers into other Max Scherzer. I think he left and went to others. And there's E rod in former international audience who erad is. It's not a rod. It's Eros. No, it's E rod, as in as in my man. On the tigers. And he's like carrying the weight isn't enough. I mean, they've done better than good, given the challenges. Well, you know, when the tigers are better than the Yankees and mets right now. Can you repeat that again? Good morning, Boston. Yes. Yes. And when the tigers are better than all, hey, you know what? Maybe we need to open our hymns book to page 45. It's amazing. I have to admit, I like the way the tigers. Michael, maybe we can say the third week of July back in. As a pie, I'm sorry. It's like the most fun I've had in 20 years. 15 years at least. I think it's great. The changes are, I think they're great. We'll have to see kind of how and I think the players like them. I think the managers like them, I think everybody's kind of embracing it. But it's Michael Barr said, good luck finding a local broadcast. We said, good morning, St. Louis. Listen to axie athletics says null set for the Cardinals. As they start, that's great. The athletic thank you so much for that. And look for that Bloomberg business of sports. The impact on baseball of these rule changes. I wish hockey would do it. I'm desperate for hockey to have the courage. I wish they'd go back to get away from the shootout and go back to what penalty shot was. That was a special moment. I totally agree. Totally agree. And the whole thing got watered. And they got to make the gold bigger so that it's back. It doesn't have to go back to Gump worsley. The gums are rich German is telling me. It ought to go back to the gum store and roger kosher and add in the rest. No, but we got to get back to something in hockey same idea as well. Red and green on the screen right now. "120 countries. I'm Michael Barr, this is Bloomberg Tom Paul. Michael Barr thinks so much. Bloomberg business of sports with the shift I watched the other day in baseball. I still don't get it. But now we have relief pitchers starting games. Jeff passing over to ESPN today with a smart article on breaking the cadence of starting pitcher to middle relief to one guy that mops it up. What we grew up with is gone. There is no Sandy Koufax anymore. You don't have that. You don't have the pictures that we had back in the day. The Denny with tigers, man. You don't even look records anymore. You don't say like it used to be, if you're a great pitcher, you had 20 wins in a season. Yeah. Yeah. Nobody gets that anymore. Remember the Baltimore Orioles had three pitchers one year Jim Palmer and two others that were killed. From a Bloomberg business of sports standpoint, is this just there were so much money that the worry about their arm is completely taken over. Denny mcclain didn't care about his arm. He would just pitch until. I mean, we all fell off. You're too young to remember this, Michael barber, there's a guy named Christy Matheson out of bucknell, who tragically died early of TB, but a guy like Matheson pitched himself out of baseball. I get that's the bad case. A hundred whatever pitches a game. Pretty soon he couldn't throw the ball, but have we swung too far the other way? No, well, I think this is the way you're going to see the game go, because you're going to have it broken down in three segments like that. You got started, then you got the middle, then you got the reliever. You're going to see

Yeah, I always wanted to golf with that, because he was a terrific golfer, and he had a load of You know, a physical ailments which he talked about regularly. I mean, I'm not talking out of school here, but I He invited me out when we had the White Sox on double DLS for a cup of coffee. I He invited me out to golf, and I just didn't move on it soon enough, and, uh and miss the opportunity. Oh, heavens. A good golfer. He threw 90 Miles an hour in high school. He pitched ST three. They're pitched against Fenwick. And for us, it was good morning, Good afternoon and good evening came up to bat. Although his father went to Fenwick and Ed chose a different high school. He was always helping people who needed a transplant. Every year. We have a press conference and Yeah, He worked with Jesse Way down there, and it's just a wonderful man. Do you remember Denny McLain, by chance is high schooler. Yeah, he went to my caramel. He was a great great high school pitcher, And unfortunately, the white sacks instead of going with Danny McLean from Chicago, went with Bruce Howard, who had a mediocre career and Denny McLain, As you know, won 31 games in 1984, I think no, no 68 68 68. What am I saying? Yeah, 68 you know McLean. They made the World Series and won the World Series against the Cardinals, but we could have used them. Let's put it that way. He was really good on to prison Baseball teams two different times. Yeah, he ran into some tough luck. But you know, when I was governor, I did more clemencies in any governor in Illinois history and a lot of people need a second chance. And if they are remorseful and say they're sorry and Make something of their life. I think it's always good to give him a second chance. I recommend a autobiography, Denny McClain called. I never said I was perfect. It's a terrific read. Had a little trouble with math. Pat Quinn little trouble with math. It could be. He liked Pepsi. As I remember. Drink Pepsi all the time. You drink a lot. Yeah, well, there you go. It's all the time we have for old baseball stories. Thank you, Governor. Much appreciated. So I have a great evening. Keep keep behind the golf course. Here, Janko. Alright, I'll see you soon. Especially like hearing about Ed Farmer, two balls and a strike in the 21 swinging.
