NBA Trade Deadline: D’Angelo Russell To The Knicks?
"We're going to go through all the major players teams and things and what they can happen as we were just over forty eight hours away from the trade deadline online. So let's start there Ryan with the New York Knicks. They are actually one of the more interesting teams around the deadline. That got a lot of potential assets that they could be sending out. Marcus Morris has one of those guys. They've got a lot of potential interesting. Big teams could be interesting and also we've heard rumors about their interest in de Ngelo Russell in some sort of trade situation with the Golden State Warriors. So what could you tell us. What's what's the what's the latest on the next and what you're hearing about their plan now that they've no longer have Steve Mills that has their president as we approached the trade deadline? I'd be frustrated about about the de Ngelo Russell rumors if I were Nix fan because keep in mind. The Knicks had a bunch of cap space last year it was widely known that the Brooklyn Nets and other teams. We're going to pursue Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and that the Ngelo Russell may be acquire -able and When the Knicks did not get a meeting with Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving they quickly shifted and signed a a bunch of power forwards including Julius randle and Marcus Morris and Bobby Portis and did not go after Daniel Russell despite a big hole at the point guard position? So you know if the Knicks were to trade a bunch of assets for Liangelo. I think that would look pretty bad. You know six or seven months after free agency but You know this is where the Knicks I think they have the worst point guard or depth and talent rotation in the league. I I don't think they have a viable starter right now. It'd be hard to say that Frank Nickel Tina or Dennis Smith junior is they're offered Payton. It is a at least they'll even league average started so I understand why they have some interest in in the Angela Russell again I think they should be looking long term. I think they should could see if they can get the late first round pick from a contender for Marcus Morris. I keep an eye and the clippers Rudy. He made a good point earlier about the clippers ability to trade a first round. Pick the last time in in a in a while So you deal that would work. is Marcus Morris going to La For Mo- heartless and a first something like that. So that's that's where I'd be exploring if I were in the next front office but again what they should do and what they are doing. I think maybe two very different things I heard the next. They're interested in keeping Morris and they may potentially even add to their team like trying to trade for a Daniel Russell which I think would be a mistake but Yeah with what they have going on in the front office right now with with the changes in the short term pressure. I wouldn't be surprised if they make an aggressive move to try to add to their help me out with the NGELO. Russell like feel like they're the team in in the Leveraged Bridge position. But I don't feel that way I feel like there's kind of like a ticking time bomb on when they can get rid of him but it seems like the more they ask for assets. The people are willing to give that up like me understand de Ngelo Russell. Why teams are so interested in getting good question scale? I think because if you're a team that needs a young point guard which is we've discussed. This show is probably the most difficult position to fill in today's NBA. You don't have one then. The NGELO Russell is the best player lawyer who looks like he's available or maybe available either now or in the summer so I think if you're a team you know you're probably kick the tires on a guy like drew holiday. I especially especially if you're a contending team but if you're a team that's trying to build like the Knicks or like the Minnesota Timberwolves and Diangelo Russel is appealing because he's relatively young. He's in his prime him and he's under team control for the next four years One of the questions. I had prior to this. Trait season was whether teams look at. The Angelo is overpaid now because keep in mind Minnesota talking to a deal with the Ngelo Russell and the twenty five million dollar a year range. I ended up getting an average of about thirty from Golden State. So that's not a significant difference Overall but it does impact your team building your your salary cap and potential luxury tax ramifications down the road. So I agree with this gal but I think You know Diangelo. Russell is available now teams know that if they can't get him now that will almost certainly be available over the summer. And if you're a team like Minnesota where the young star and Karl Anthony towns who doesn't want to wait to win games aims and your teams lost eleven or twelve in a row. I think that makes Dangelo Russell. Even more appealing.

Knicks Snap 18-Game Home Losing Streak with Win over Spurs to Avoid NBA History
"Guys. We have a guest here obviously on the shell Pennzoil performance line. And it is oh guy. Our guy Bagley get your bag. Ian, how're you doing? In. My three favorites out there tonight. I'm very excited. Yes. ESPN New York. Knicks reporter also does the nets and basically holds the upper east coast down in did you know that the Knicks made the Oscars they pretty much won an Oscar did you notice this? Yeah. We got wind of it on social media after the game. And we asked a couple of players about if they hadn't seen a year for too excited to just see the clip Samuel Jackson, and Spike Lee. Not every not every year that the Knicks could have mentioned on the Oscars deserves rightfully so. Because the Knicks would at home first time that happened since December one twenty eight and I'm talking about last year folks, twenty we're everywhere. Number one two thousand eighteen they won. They beat the Spurs one thirty one eighteen and I even saw the icing on the cake who threw off the backboard pass for the dunk like it was just wild. How important Dennis Smith? Well, of course, it makes sense. Usually he's on the other end of the dunk rape. How does this when in Madison Square Garden me? What was the field? Was it like a sign of relief for coach physio it felt like a weight off everybody's shoulders, you know, coach FitzGerald would tell us that they don't think about it. They don't talk about it. But then the players afterward joking around the locker room, it just felt like a much later lock home. Now, they knew about they were one loss away from Batasuna longest losing streak ninety history set in ninety three ninety four by the Dallas Mavericks. They know that they have the longest losing streak in franchise history. This so they're aware of those numbers. They don't want to be a part of that history. Tonight, especially the team like the city until you're Spurs. It's not easy, especially for this. And we've got a twenty two games left would throw out the record. We know where we know where we are twelve hundred forty eight what should be the goals over the next six weeks here with this team wanna see consistency. I think so Kevin Knox. You'd wanna see what Frank ntilikina as you're still trying to answer that question. You know, one one and a half almost two seasons. Enter France career, he should get healthy at some points to from this point. I think it was the next to kiss him significant minutes trying to answer that question to try to see if he can be elite guard. What did he do off the ball and where he used offensively so between seven and Saint not some consistency. From those guys. I think the next like what they've seen recently from young player in literal Robinson who who's really played well, especially since the Andre Jordan has come over from Dallas Jordan has done a good job mentoring. Mitch robinson. So I think it's it's the young players on your team and being able to project them forward who is a keeper who can you pencil in for next year? And who do you think won't be around piggybacking off your point there? What's the the Knicks recruiting pitch this summer? You know, who they Bill that around is it around, you know, playing with somebody like Dennis Smith. Knox. Or like what how does that play out? Jordan because you have the two max slots. Pitches almost hey, come come here and tell us who you wanna play with right twenty nine hundred she class, we get that you wanna play with and Kevin Durant. Also simple. You want to change the narrative around. Golden State to win those titles. You come here. And you have success in New York you wanna title in New York. I mean, that's a forever thing doesn't staffers outside of Madison Square Garden and no one. We'll talk about how joined that Golden State to win your earlier title simple message. Anybody else? It's tell us who you wanna play with. We'll try to bring that guy in. That's the voice of in Begley are ESPN next report. And that's reporter upper east coast. Reporter you're listening to insiders. I'm Bobby marks Jordan Schultz ESPN radio ESPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty now. Talking about obviously, the potential free agency this summer. Those are all big question marks largely because of the trade deadline, sending Kristaps Porzingis opening up two slots, but tell me how worried were Knicks fans watching Duke UNC this past week in. Knick fans are still watching the Knicks games. I give them a lot of credit assume most expensive watching every night. So. A big sigh of relief. I think I'm this fanbase when you found out that that sign injury wasn't that serious that he's going to be okay. Because this record twelve weeks at this point. And they're just looking ahead towards the trash and like every other bottom. Feeding MBA franchise. They're looking at nine what you've seen how he can impact their roster. How much he can change the fourteen organization. So, you know, certainly everybody around here was relieved when they found that he was okay. The interesting thing so Zion and wherever the Knicks end up in the draft in the top three. They hope is could that pick then help them creed. With the woman's Francis us, I think that's something. That's that's certainly on the fan bases minded. I'm sure the front office is thinking about different permutations packages. They could put together including that twenty nine team first round pick to try to entice New Orleans Detroit. And before we let you go. What do you think Zion playing in Madison Square Garden would look like do you think it would be just the new coming up LeBron or even even bigger based on his highlights in his dunking ability. I remember the Jeremy Lin Ron and how much energy was in the building night in and night out. How much of the event every home game was your masters. I think it would be just like that. But even more so sign Williamson was here. Because you know, he getting the franchise all three player people talk about him as a prospect the same way, they talks about Davis to bring that kind of talent into this building would give this reasons for optimism something they haven't had in a long time around here in. I look forward to our shared slice of pizza. I know we've been pushing off that day for a long time. He's been the best pizza apparently in New York. But before we let you go last, but not least we have awards given out for the MBA insiders and honors of aren't Oscars. Have you been watching the Oscars tonight? Because I've been at the. Is your feed though, you saw here. A little bit here and there, okay? This has been a Mahershala Ali love fest on the show, but we actually have awards given out today on MBA insiders throughout the course of the night. I want to get your vote for the last category that we're trying to push best leading man. Are you ready for this vote pleased? The nominees are Janta Takubo of the box. PG thirteen Paul George of the thunder James harden of the rockets and Kawhi Leonard of the raptors who is your best leading man right now. I would go right now with John giving Milwaukee's records they're standing in the conference in the role that he plays on that team. I think he's most deserving of that honor at the moment all of Georgia's a close second. Given what he's done for the thunder

Dennis Smith junior. Who had the lower score afford of ninety five points. He will be our first dunker to dunks in the championship round Hamadou Diablo at forty eight nece. I both guys had fifty in their second yellow finished with ninety eight this gallows, I dunk contest the NBA level. Dennis Smith junior his second. Try first time in the championship. Short. A year ago making it out of the first round gallows clearly had some stuff that he's working on a lot of work shack jersey underneath is the ripple way. Okay. See jersey out on top. Thing. Westbrook and Paul George and all those guys have seen a lot of this over the last four months. Surprised big hops. The combine earlier this year forty four and a half inch vertical member he didn't play at the university of Kentucky his first year. And almost could have been a first round draft pick. Played was number forty five pick acquired by okay? See Dennis Smith junior number nine pick. Couple your scope by Dallas now with the Knicks. First of two dogs in the championship round about to get underway. Smith from nearby Fayetteville has his knick's jersey back on L start from the right way dribbles span. To the left hand and missed the Doug. That would have been spectacular. But he's going to set up to try it again from the right? He goes left hand dribble through the legs. Lost the handle the ball went through the basket doesn't count as an attempt. Dennis Smith junior will try it. One more time little flashier, but Kenny finish. It very goes towards the basket. Three sixty two the legs missed off the rim. And he's got one more to go JJ first one was flows. And you're right out would have been something. The Judy shaking his head as he looks into the crowd. Says. Yep. I got this. Harry goes Smith dribbling left-hand, no boards. The attempt is he went into that three sixty feeling as he wasn't going to complete it. One attempt left. The Rams spins and lost the handle the between the legs part. No. It's not. Still gone attempts, which is a player controlling the basketball and moving toward the wind. So the loss of control though, it is he switching up high in the air ballots. The dog as he cockpit way back but again. They really that an attempt. That's that's an attempt. So the third and final attempt for Dennis Smith junior incomplete. And that puts it at Hamad Diablo could go with a safe dunk to win here tonight in Charlotte, though. I have a sneaking suspicion he has something even better. Then what we've seen so far in the first round. Get scores. Five seven thirty five for Dennis Smith junior disappointment. Likes to test. You like the idea of changing up the doctors, the donkey was attempting was ridiculously hard. But you gotta make. But you gotta you have to. And I don't think he threw it up in the air. And the toss he was too far away from the rim to be able to make that came back down. Make sure you make one get in the forties and give yourself a chance. Now Diablo gets up in the forties. I think it's gonna be all she wrote the first of two final round don't for Diablo coming up after Dennis Smith junior. Posting a thirty five. Yellow does here about ten feet beyond the three point stripe at the top lips the ball high in the air goes Ford, but bowls away a boarding attempt. Been get the bouncy was looking for didn't really give away. What he's gonna do. Again throws it high in the air. Flushes it hold hard way off the ground. Connect look like he was looking down low you turn easy dog. That's not a very difficult. The ball bounces right next to the rim. He just catches and throws down with one hand. Could do that in his sleep? But smarter. He was clearly looking down the rim on that you three she ate the app lettuces. And the lift I love it. When you slow down that we're getting a look now, I mean that guy lifted off the ground up above the rim and with one hand. Plus, a smart move though. I mean nine thousand eight three nine two eight hundred forty three so an eight point lead for Hamadu Biallo. The woods. No, he left Dennis Smith junior the door just a little jar. But Dennis got to come with a fifty here. What does he have in store for a second and final Doug? I just hopped off the far sideline. What is he gonna do step? Weights covenant as well. Wade in his final all star appearance tomorrow. So Wade and curry. And like Russell Westbrook. Wade wearing a spectacular jacket, but only John Barry could pull off his way. Well, he's going to jump overweight and have stepped pass. Okay. So wait is set up. Where shack was obviously waited six four. Top of the. Mark underneath the basket. Curry's gonna flip it with a right hand right underneath the rim. Dennis Smith junior will run from the left side. He's in a sprint. He's gonna leap overweight, grabs it. But does it go toward the rim. Again, he's trying to push off the back way to push off away aid and grabbed the toss from curry and try to jam it. Here we go Curry's ready to flip. Wade is under the basket spirit. Lifts up grabs it, but can't finish. He guided it toward the rim, and it fell through they say, no attempt. He did not have control. You Wade has his hands together. In a form of prayer is to say I've gotten this far into the lake don't hurt me. Now. To shove right in the middle of the Viking bear cubs. Dennis Smith junior. Full-spread grabs the toss from curry can't finish it again. No control. And no attempt jump over.
Is MLB in dire straits?
"I guess that I was listening to g bag earlier, and they were talking about the dire situation that the MLB is in. A large chunk of their high paid players were free agents or what would have been high paid free agents the past year. And now this year, namely, Bryce Harper and Manny Machado. Still remain unsigned gone or the ideas that you're going to get a ten year three hundred and fifty million dollar contract. Which is what Bryce Harper's asking. So I guess my first question was. Was the one that they discussed earlier how bad is this going to be for major league baseball. But the more I thought about it the more I kinda parallel the to something that we see in the NBA we sit here, and we watch the rising stars game tonight. You got all star weekend this week. And no there's not really a threat of a lockout coming anytime soon in that league. But the NBA for me has become largely unwatchable aside from my team here in Dallas and for the past four years up until last year, really my interest level the Mavs had dropped off significantly because it just wasn't exciting basketball. But you know, who's going to win every year, or at least going to be in the championship. It feels like the warriors have owned the west, and the LeBron's have owned the east that changes a little bit now, but still probably going to see warriors and somebody else. So my question is auto flex lease and fan text eight seven seven eight eight one one zero five three. Assuming the MLB does go into a lockout which could potentially go from half a year up to. Who knows maybe a year and a half? Maybe it's longer you'd assume they'll figure something out at that point. Is that going to turn you away from baseball? Or are you more worried about the NBA, and the fact that for the large majority of people viewership has kind of gotten a little bit less consistent because you just feel like, you know, who's going to be there. Yeah. A parody wise. I see your point in in basketball, especially because when LeBron was in Cleveland the last three years you knew all right? We're pretty much on a collision course, Cavs warriors NBA finals, unless you just really enjoy watching basketball wake me up when it's June in the final start and find out who wins that thing because it became a pretty solid grudge match warriors one Cavs one warriors than go. Go ahead and win the next two. So from that point of view, I get that. But I do think we're starting to see hopefully the. What happens is off season will dictate a lot this Katie leave. What happens with clay? Maybe we start to see the dominance of Golden State, Wayne. And now we're opening up to a new wave of teams. Whether it's the Mavericks with Luca Danni kitchen Kristaps Porzingis who has Charles Barkley said earlier today, they go ahead and add one more free agent. They can all of a sudden very quickly changed the balance of power. And I hope they do. I like I said like having Luca and last year when he got Dennis Smith junior that injected the excitement that I needed back into the Mavericks, and for me, I finally feel like there's some hope which is drawn me back into watching the Mavericks and kind of slowly drawn me back into watching the NBA in general. But I would imagine I'm not the only one out there who watched four or five years of the same thing over and over and over again, especially here in the Metroplex. We're Mavericks basketball was pretty tough to watch on the counter, though, what had you glued into watching any ranger base. Ballgames aside from work in a let's say, it's not your job to go ahead and pay attention to Rangers baseball. Are you really invested not only in the Rangers? But in the MLB in general. Past year to know because the Rangers have been have been bad they've been underperforming, but I mean three years ago four years ago when I was not watching Mavericks basketball every year. The Rangers were winning the most games in the American League American League once and won another division title. So like, at least, I guess some recency bias there or some semblance of it. Like, I was interested in Rangers baseball. So I'm a baseball fan at heart. And it's really weird for me to say it basketball is my first love, and I could never I would never have imagined myself falling out of love with watching the game of basketball. But because of the circumstances not just in my team. But with the entire league I bail for a while. Yeah. I mean, we go through peaks and valleys, I can understand what you're saying there. But I think the NBA is about to be right back in that kind of interest realm for you to where you're going to be back in there for baseball. I think that's where the issue is. You got to six point five percent attendance down from last year. They're already looking into rule changes such as pitch clock. How many batters can face one pitcher given a pitching change basically ways to make the game quicker? And that's the issue baseball slow, and quite frankly to a lot of people baseball is boring for the NBA it's fast pace. Now. That's until you get into the final few minutes and teams wanna go ahead and start failing over and over again. And you get to the situation where it's like, man. Let's just go ahead and let this baby end. But otherwise, it's two and a half hours. It's uptempo. It's fast pace basketball can be fun and exciting even if it's not a team that you have a rooting interest in you can turn on a basketball game. And it's appealing to the is for. For baseball unless you're a purist. Or unless you just grew up really loving the game. It can be a very tedious boring sport to watch. And I think that's why you're starting to see especially with his younger generation that hasn't grown up with the heritage of America's pastime being baseball now that it's moved onto football. I think baseball is in far more trouble now to Mike bastards point earlier. There's articles dating back to the seventies that talked about baseball dying. And here it is. I don't think baseball is dying. I don't think it's going anywhere. But I think it is starting to get to the point where it will be eclipsed in terms of the top four by the NBA. That's my opinion. I think the NBA especially to the younger audience they're doing a much better job of featuring and showcasing their players. It's more entertaining. It's faster pace. Even if baseball adopt. Some of these different rule changes to help speed the game of pace up a little bit which will help some. I don't think it's helping enough. And if they have a walkout, and you're outta sight outta mind that will be devastating, and it is really interesting too. Like, I guess there's no true analog for the NBA. College basketball is probably the closest thing that you've got the WNBA exists. But I I think we'd all be lying to ourselves. If. You watched more than maybe highlights at scrolled across your TV if you're the average casual sports fan, Reggie, I hope I didn't offend you there as far as our resident WNBA watcher here. Oh, not offended at all. But like with baseball. What's the alternative? If the MLB goes away. Watching college baseball. Not watching minor leagues. Probably like there is no Terrell turn. If you don't have March madness to save you that disappears especially for more than half a season. We start talking like you like bask- was saying you missed the point you missed the playoffs. Twenty twenty one and then missed the entire twenty twenty two season. I guess for one the players don't have anywhere to go. So you don't feel you're going to lose them. But as your viewers go, you're right baseball, truly would kind of fall out of sight outta mind. It's already dying game. Is there anything that they can do to stop it? They're trying. I think these rule changes they're trying to implement our sign that they're moving forward in a positive direction. They understand these games when you're talking three and a half to four hour baseball games. It's just too long for the people that aren't just in love with baseball. And from the chew on for the whole game of baseball strategy to me basketball's boring until the final two minutes will to them. It is that's fair. Okay. That's all right. But you a lot of people. They're not interested in the strategy. That is baseball. They wanna see doubles triples home runs. They wanna see instant gratification right to the two one four, and this is the other area that I think puts you off basketball that we were talking about off air that. I don't think you've gotten to quite yet. Players own the NBA owners owned the MLB the NBA has kind of transition here into an issue or you've got LeBron James she thinks he can just go ahead and handpick in move players around and be the the the chess king here, that's moving all these different pieces. How he sees fit in the NBA the MLB clearly didn't have that problem. We just talked about some of the biggest names in the sport, Bryce Harper. Manny machado. They still don't have a team that sign them and JD Martinez last year. Huge reason the Red Sox went on to win the World Series. Didn't get signed till February the tough thing though, there is like it's very clear that one player can make a massive massive difference in the NBA one player in baseball, especially if it's someone at the plate. You can only do

Dallas Mavericks agree to trade with New York Knicks for Kristaps Porzingis
"Practice with an illness. Big news in the NBA. Kristaps Porzingis traded from the Knicks to the Dallas Mavericks porzingas Courtney Lee, Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway junior head to the Mavs for de'andre Jordan, Dennis Smith junior Wesley Matthews and two future. First round picks. The Knicks now should have enough cap room for two big time signings to max contracts
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle thinks Kristaps Porzingis brings another Dirk Nowitzki-Steve Nash type combo with Luka Doncic
"We do have Rick Carlisle's quotes regarding the porzingas blockbuster. He told one of three point three FM ESPN. Here's a quote, we obviously think porzingas is a great young talent similar in many ways to Dirk, this is a kind of a jerk and Nash type of situation only these guys are taller there. There are other good players in this deal. Hardaway juniors terrific shooter and a proven to guard in this league. Courtney Lee has been a guy that's been out of the rotation in New York because they've been going young and all of that kind of stuff, but he's a guy that can still play the game. Well, he's a good defender and shoots the ball. Well, and trae Burks resurrected his career Dennis Smith has had a really terrific year and a half in terms of growth. I mean, he tops it off last night with a triple double. Well, he's a tremendous young player and New York is such an exciting environment for a guy like him. It'll be a great situation for him. So coach Rick Carlisle chimes in and gives that sort of low expectation Durkan Dirk Nash combo so to help us break down. Go ahead, sir. I'm gonna say, unfortunately Smith junior being good is bad for the next gonna make them play better. And they wanna be worse fair fair point because it right now, it's all in Brazil,

And while do I think Davis by Davidson and Beka work, maybe not so much. I'll come, but what's it called? I called the talk about two things the first one. But Dennis Scott junior is disgruntled in Dallas, and we have Markelle Foltz any any way that we could try to try that straight up. You mean? Dennis Smith junior spent. Got used to play for the Orlando Magic. And now he's done NBA TV. Nice job there. Yeah. Usually when people have different last names, they're not usually father and son. That's just you know, I thought it was. Hey, Scott Jennings. Okay. Doesn't fit as well. With luca. Danni kitchens? I thought he was going. So would they take the unknown of how volts would fit with Don Cheech over the given that Smith is right? Dallas would. I mean, we'd have to probably sweeten the deal. Exactly. Right. Yeah. Smith has a good year under his belt. The. Right. This year. Oh, good. But I think he could like I don't think folds comply with Ben Simmons. And so I think we need someone that can play Ben Simmons. And I think that's can then Matt I here's the problem is Smith junior. He's already proven himself that in the right mix right system with right guys around him. He can play really well in the NBA. Markelle fault has improved not yet. So even though Marquel was drafted before. Dennis Mitchell was he's also make more money than Dennis Smith junior was but it's not enough that that would be a deterrent and deal. Dallas would have to believe that faults is as good a player without having proved it and would be a better fit without having ever seen it. 'cause yes, the magic going forward and going to all be about kind of like with Embiid here in Philadelphia. How do the pieces fit around? Joel embiid. How do the pieces fit around Lucas Don-Shik? That's how they're going to decide whether they would trade I think they'd like to trade Dennis Smith junior. But I think they'd like to trade him for someone who's got a little bit more of an NBA track record. Then Marco volts does. So I give you credit because you identified an NBA player who could help the Sixers who should absolutely be available because they told them just to stay home for a while. While they figured out what they wanted to do and how they were going to go forward. So it's always smart to be able to look at a guy like that. And say, hey, how can we get our hands on them? It's good on your part. Markup vaulters an answer. Now, the Dallas is gonna look for a better peace than that. If even with the issues with that, it's not just going to give away for a guy who's a year and a.

"He's great despite the fact, he was kinda laboring out on the floor. I think this speaks to a a bigger topic where it's like with Ben Simmons a lot of people are like oh show, the trade, Ben Simmons. But really, I think besides Anthony Davis trade, there's nothing you would trade it inform that's partially because who Simmons is a player. But it's also because of who Joel Embiid is this a player if Embiid were to ever suffer another major injury. And let's hope the guy that he never does. He's one of the best players in the league's one of the finest players in the league the wash. But if he ever does suddenly this has been Simmons team and suddenly you're building around. Ben is it or is it Jamie Butler. Stan. But it should be Ben Simmons team, theoretically on paper and health Jimmy, man. He's got his own coffee, mugs. He's not trying to be out here. But him beats held his why you can't trade Ben Simmons. He is your he's or cornerstone shirts because he's also a cornerstone player himself. Yeah. But here's the thing though, KFC like does Ben Simmons wannabe insurance next three years? I mean, it's like so much of like at this level of the game. It's just like dealing with these relationship with these star players like making them happy. I don't think he is insurance. Not yet. At least if he if he really falls into that third wheel role. Then then maybe we'll see what happens in the playoffs. Man. I cannot wait to watch Sixers in the playoffs. The takes come out of this. Oh, that's going to be great, man. The next eleven games for Philadelphia is going to be tough. We'll have more sex talk later on the podcast. They were great last night. Speaking about third wheels. There's a second wheel that one side of a situation that we talk about this case often leads right now his leg. I'm very worried yesterday. ESPN's Tim McMahon reported on that it's plan. A for the Mavericks to reconcile their relationship with second year point guard. Dennis Smith junior who hasn't played since January seventh any report. Wants out because he's unhappy with his role behind Luca Danni, which that man said the Dallas hasn't necessarily sent him away from the team as that Dennis Smith JR. Junior's camp decided that he wants a trade because he's frustrated and the athletics Tim Kato could front of the show at at the Mavericks want Dennis Smith back on their terms though because Carlisle wants him playing the role that he wants him to play. And we don't know if Dennis Smith is going to accept it. He not on the road trip right now charts house the second year guard who isn't good yet making such a power move. What this what does this man think he's Jimmy bottler come on? Power co points a game. Maybe he saw Jimmy Butler pulled us. Maybe he and his agent saw this on. Why can't I do that? I mean, it's weird. It's a weird thing. Like, I get where Dennis is coming from to a certain degree. Like, I get that. Okay. I'm this point guard. I want the ball in my hands. I was the guy last year. I don't really want to take a step back. And I think that's a problem for a lot of young guys in the league. And just that you know, they don't wanna do that. But of course, the problem is Dennis isn't that good right now. So no, he's not much of Jimmy. So Jimmy does also feed does teams are still like man, I want my team. I'll give you good offer. Like kelsey. Why would anybody give the Mavs? Good offer. Dennis Smith right now. There's no reason we give them on a good offer right now. And so here's the thing for the Mavs. So you traded your lottery pick next year for Luca, which that's fine. We all like that got literature a couple more retroactively full, but he's you have with Dennis Smith like kind of falling off the map, all of a sudden, you have Luca, and you have no lottery picks around him. You have no way to add more talent around him. You've never been a frigging destination..

January twenty eighth at nine on TNT. Please gentlemen vote. Worst of. Got some nominees here. Gentlemen. The first one is Dennis Smith junior of the Dallas Mavericks, should we put it on Dennis Smith junior? Will you tell me this week? We talked about the rumors reported from watch that the Mazrui looking to trade second year guard Dennis Smith junior. Now, it appears at Dallas doesn't have much say on the matter say in the matter, I guess, this is as writer ESPN's Tim McMahon on the hoop collective podcast Thursday, quote, Dennis Smith has not been banished from the Mavericks. This is not a case of the maverick saying, hey, stay home. We're trying to trade you, and we don't want you to get hurt. This is a case of Smith deciding I'm done here. Let's get a trade going. I don't wanna play Donnie Nelson in the mass front office doesn't want to give up on them. But at this point, what are you going to do? He's refusing to play for you. Thanks to sporting DFW on Twitter for transcribing, but the ethnic Sean strain. Yeah. Tweeted, this sources Dallas Dennis Smith junior and top team officials have talked in pastoral days and had positive communication Mavericks maintain. Smith has been positive and team competitor. Smith hasn't made that trade request. Okay. So there's a good communicator what's going on here. He doesn't wanna play for them. That's what it sure seems like bodies a good guy. Let's confirm. He's a good guy. And if you want them. He's a good to know. Hey, he's not playing for us, buddy. Is a good guy. And he would be great on your team. I that's mad spin trying to save his trade value because people are like why are you giving up on them already? No, no, no. We're not giving up on doesn't actually want out of here. We're just exploring some things. He's gone. Ain't gonna play for the Matson doesn't it certainly sounded like that. Until that report from Shams came in trying to maybe reconcile to get him out on the floor. Because the the luxuries off. I think he's value just does drop. But don't you think that's the whole point of the report? So that it seems like that they're trying to spin it save just I mean, if you are the mass and you're like well now it's out there. We've got to at least show people that he can perform out the wise is like if the longer he's out then it's just like. Well, I mean, how can you increase value? He's not on. But then again, of course, if he injured himself things things that crazy while he's not gonna play because there are some news here ESPN civic man seems to have gotten the similar info from from sources. He said mav's don't expect and unit to join them on upcoming trip to Indiana, and Milwaukee but had productive communication with young still a good communicator. But but McMahon says this has been brewing for some time quote Smith last year, put up okay numbers, not officiant. But the numbers were inflated by garbage time and that honestly just killed Rick Carlisle their head coach if felt like all it's doing is reinforcing terrible habits. It's been awkward between those two for a good year. Now, at least and another tweet from Tim McMahon junior. Did not report that the syllabi for practice this morning for a source not expected measure willing to be patient in an effort to fix the situation at least temporarily Hegel just trying to find the best deal. He doesn't wanna play with the dog. Yep. Dunker? There's no tension between that apparently not be bras. Yeah. Yeah. They like they gilfriend's hang out and stuff like that. So. Sometimes it can be check the trade machine people's Instagram. Go friends relationships, but often in this situation, it can be precipitated by and this has taken my job. "From your get your sweets tonight show. We're going to beat which team has been the beer surprise, the Sacramento Kings, or the Brooklyn nets. We're going to talk to three d live from Philly ahead of tonight's wolves Sixers game here on the network. We got a very solid play. But let's start a little true or false tickets got questions, we'll debate whether it's false. It's just ninety seven games into his NBA career. It seems the Mavericks are ready to move on from Dennis Smith junior as ESPN's Adrian Morgan Ascii and Tim McMahon reported the Dallas is escalating talks to move the second year guard. He's only twenty one he was drafted ninth. Overall, just eighteen months ago, so true or false. The man's are given up on Dennis Smith junior too soon from the outside looking in seems very true. If they're just going to give up on a guy as you mentioned trae year and a half into his career because what is the Mavs get that's better than Dennis Smith junior at this point. I guess they want somebody Toler who can defend. Better who can shoot better around Luca Danni. But for a guy who has cost certainty for the next two and a half seasons. Are you going to get anything better? I I highly doubt it. I mean, if you're trading him for something spectacular, then give up on Dennis Smith junior shirt. The return is going to be all that. Great. Hey. Yeah. I just highly doubt it. But until we do know what that return is. If these teams are interested, maybe than it is worth the Mavericks moving on because clearly Luca Danni, which is the future. Yep. And they obviously feel that Luca and Dennis Smith conflict here. They've only had a small amount of time like thirty genes. Not all that much. But sometimes you can make a decision. Figured out. You know, what we just don't think this is gonna work longtime to let's cash on while we can now because he's very young. And he's contract is is nothing virtually so maybe you can get a couple of picks back here because the match remember they lose their first round pick coming into this draft. They gave that to the hawks in the draft last year. So maybe that's what the Mazza thinking that right now that this isn't way we want to go in the future. So we're going to look to try to cash on him now and get something in return. But until we see that it's just a little bit on nine. And of course, recall owes playing that Dan is eyeing he's injured and stuff like that. Because that's what they always say until I tried happens. But it certainly feels like Dennis Smith was the man last year, but Lucas come along, and basically might him redundant in some regards. Yeah, I do think this is going to happen because I'm not sure you can put that toothpaste back in the tube. Now that he is going to be moved before the deadline. And I think it's going to be actually probably a good thing for Dennis Smith junior as well. It depends where he lands, of course. But you're right. This is going to be tough for a guy comes in as a rookie a one year guy in college mister in high school. He's only twenty one. Hey here. In our franchise here with the Dallas Mavericks. He didn't. All right job. You know, obviously, low efficiency high volume but fifteen points per game his rookie year. And then here comes LUKA. Here comes wonderboy, and rightfully so like, we gotta run everything through him. He's gotta have the ball in his hands like taking touches away. From him is not the way to go. And Dennis your strong skill is not shooting the ball right now. He's just not a good shooter. Honestly. So they have decided very quickly here. Maybe right. Not parents going to work for the long furniture here is probably an impatient owner and Mark Cuban he wants to win. Now once probably get back to the postseason. So he says look our trajectory is changed now with a potential all star potential superstar in young Luca. So let's go get some pieces that could help him win right now..

"Reported by my own Kevin O bomber Dennis Smith junior could be on the move. And that the Mavericks would be exploring deals for Kim. That report advanced by agent, origin, hausky and ESPN talking about the Phoenix Suns. And also the Orlando Magic as possible destinations. So first things first why is Dennis Smith junior? I get Luca and what happened with Luca and Luca having the ball. Why do you think that they are interested in moving off a guy that less than a year ago? They took with the top ten pick or a year ago that took the top ten pick, and which of those two probable or possible destinations. Do you think Smith would be a better fit? I think Orlando's a better fit Chris. But I have heard last night. I had heard that it won't be Orlando. We'll see if that changes. But I had a source telling me that is just not it's not going to be Orlando for Dennis Smith. And then last night, John Gambar. Uh-huh. From Arizona sports ninety seven and Phoenix who always a lot of sun. Scoops said the sons have no one trust in Smith. I'm not sure about no interests. They they have had conversations. But it's also possible that there's just nothing there. Mitch Laurence reported that the pistons have had conversations with Dennis Smith to that something to monitor as well, if I'm Dallas personally, I would call about Kemba Walker just to see what's there? I don't think anything would happen. But it's worth taking a look with the Charlotte. What he played at NC state. So densely familiar with? I think you know, if it's from Charlotte's perspective. I if there's any deal that you can make taking a PR hit which would undoubtedly come if you're trading Cambe weeks before the all-star game is in Charlotte. Getting Dennis Smith back is about one of the only players that would make it worth it, especially if you dumping Nick pa- tomb in the deal as well. That's about the only type of deal that I think that could they can make without just raging in Charlotte. Okay. Why did they wanna get rid of Dennis Smith? I think it's really about maximizing the asset right now, he's a twenty one year old point guard. Chris that like you said just in thousand seventeen was drafted ninth in the draft who you know, I'm not a big fan of his game. But he's at least flashed potential the especially as a high pick and roll score. I think it's what maximizing him instead of his value further depreciating as Luca just blossoms into a star and not to mention Luca, but Jalen Brunson. They're young rookie point guard. The drafted from Villanova in the second round. He's been steadily getting better over the course of the season as well. So even though beret got hurt Luca just as demanding more of the ball 'cause he's so damn good. And then Brunson. I think at the second round pick is worthy of getting opportunity coming off the bench as well. So it's about it's what exchanging and asset and getting something else back that helps you I mean, you know, the story goes at Carlisle and Emma butted heads, which is unsurprising that Carlisle point guard right outside of like a forty year old Jason Kidd, we've heard that about literally every point guard that they've had especially a guy like Dennis Smith who. Oh, let's just let's just be real, you know, in college. He's not the best decision maker. And that has manifested the NBA two he's not Carlisle's type, right? He's wipe left on Tinder on NBA tender the most important about that is the whole maxing out Luca Danni pitch and Smith average one hundred point nine points per one hundred possessions this season Don-Shik and Brunson average Attila under one hundred and seven points while dodger Tim Berea. We're at one thirteen per one hundred possessions. So it's pretty obvious. Just in terms of what they've got on that roster this year, the back court of Donncha, Tim Smith has been intensely less effective than dodgers and Brunson or dodge and Berea who obviously is out now with the achilles thing. So there's some times where it can just be addition by subtraction. The fact that you're getting more minutes of Donncha with a different pairing. Because though, it is only six hundred eighty seven minutes. I mean, it's come to the worst of the results of the back court pairings with Luca. So it doesn't work that..

"Switch to buys hairs covered by Dennis Smith junior. There. What a play by Dennis Smith junior. What does that play tell you about the type of player that he is terrific defense about Dennis Smith junior? If you're Tobias Harris, you're going to challenge yourself to go a little bit stronger. Get a little bit lower turn over the right shoulder. Make him by that fake. And then go back over the left shoulder. He never truly sold. And it and the more player Dennis doing you did a terrific one on one defensive play to get the block lay. Well, Pat Beverley you think is going to get a little message from the league after that elbow. But somebody tells me that he might also get a message for league from this play in which he just you know, he threw a pass all he did was throw a pass. Right. But he just happened to throw a pass rate at one of the fans in the first row for the maths. Jalen, what do you think about Pat Beverley throwing the ball at a fan in the first row? I think what he did with Dennis Smith junior as well. As what he did with the fan is going to have him light in the pockets between twenty five thousand fifty thousand dollars. That's exactly what I think you can't have the paint customer being continually. You can't have players be aggressive tort fans and understanding that they're going to yell things that you don't like is fair. No is that something that should be policed by others beside you. Yes. But when you play on the role in particular, how still environments the role team is going to Yale things that you don't like it just comes with the territory. Well, you mentioned the Pat Beverley was from Chicago. And we have some breaking news out of Chicago. Fred hoiberg. No longer the head coach Jim Boylan is now the head coach not placed with an interim tag. However, it seems like he's the head coach at least for the rest of the season. But the bills are not trying to win basketball games. They're clearly trying to not trying for Zion is what some might say. So Jalen rose. Why would you fire coach midway through the season? If you're basically tanking you answered your own question, but I'll follow up on it. Because the Chicago Bulls that they put together a young group of talented players. But this is the year for them to make the leap. So you try to acquire that next lottery pick, and then all of a sudden, hopefully catapult yourself into an Eastern Conference. That's really been in flustered. The last few years below the fifth scene. Well, right now, it is time for news. Jalen, you know, I love a few things in this world. I love basketball. I love hip hop. I love my family. I love smoothies, and I love Cosco, which is why I love this union between two people in mission valley outside of San Diego. They got married in Cosco. This is brilliant for so many reasons first of all everybody spends too much on their wedding. You know, you gotta deal with you get married at Costco. It looks pretty it's unique and everyone the reception you can get some shopping in. Everyone's got a membership card is the perfect place to get married. This is a great PR stuff for somebody involved. When you look back at the lineage of who's pays taxes on this? I bet in one way, shape or form there's an affiliation between that family and kosco beyond the fact that they're just patronizing the facilities and decided that they love it so much that they're going to go there and gave Mary. So let me tell you something about suitcases right because I'm old. And I remember we would go to the airport, and everyone would walk around carrying suitcases every single person would carry a suitcase around the airport. No one thought, hey, maybe we should put some wheels on these things wheels on them. And no one carries suitcases. That's the same way. I feel about ring by now, you know, what ring is ring is a video doorbell with two way audio and high definition, I think that ring is the same thing as wheels on suitcases. We are all going to have this in the future. It's so safe. It's so simple. It's so intuitive. It's so informative, and it's so affordable that this is going to be a piece of our lives moving forward right now, you can make ring security a piece of your life right now..

"Like if mitchell is more like dennis smith where we asked to attack the rim the team kinda has to be perfectly built around him to succeed but a guy like mitchell i think he's shooting like seven threes the game you could almost go anywhere and shoot seven threes game you can make them i imagine badghis makes some so much easier having that shot on your bag i was looking back at the mitchell scuttling report from our twenty seventeen and be draft guide last year and like some of his weaknesses they're still kind of there in a way they haven't necessarily gone away we'll take some wild shots he's still not the most efficient guy so that makes me think like usually when i'm looking for the quote unquote next mitchell i'm looking for inefficient guy i'm looking for someone who's not gonna take wild shots but i think the unique thing with him that's maybe not so common as the fact that he does play within himself development hasn't happened yet and some of those years but he knows what to do as we saw in game two the other night where when he needed to playmaker with ricky rubio out he took that on did take less risky shots granted it wasn't efficient night for him which is a really strong over all night for him right and there was that one pass that he made he funneled into the defense and then just wits this like magical pass out to joe ingles for three it was like i i have no idea he had that in actually it's kind of cliche but like he has a good feel for the game like mitchell just a smart basketball player and that goes a long way to and you're a young guy he doesn't need to be coached about basic things he found his role on both sides of the ball he reads the floor reasonably well see no he takes a lot of bad shots at times he's able to exist in the psych very disciplined system so i'm gonna pitch you a guy as i think the same players donovan mitchell but this is my guy miles bridges i think there's something there in terms of miles you'd pretty projectable three point shot he's a great athlete he's got reasonable amounts of feel for the.

"Were no i mean because like d you don't see yogi feral as a franchise starter right and what you wanted to be determining was seth curry was a franchise starter 'cause you look at it now and you say how many franchise starters for the future dea of you have to you have dennis smith junior and you have harrison barnes okay because we all love dirk but he's not like a future guy all right wesley matthews is not a future guy yogi feral is not going to be a starter for a light top notch nba team but you looked at it and thought while nerlens noel would have been the number one pick in the draft if he hadn't got hurt he stuck in a garbage situation maybe he could have been a starter seth curry is got the pedigree he could shoot lights out maybe he could have been a starter and that all of a sudden maybe you draft baghli as your power forward of the future and you say this is the lineup that are rolling with but instead now you're back down to two so that goes back to the original think we're talking about when mark cuban says this is the last year of tanking if you hit on aden that's three and so who are the other two and who are the other two who are coming here off what you've seen that you know our set george mccloud i mean from and establish a point of view i would love george mccloud coming here i just don't see the five bill of you fat and they all then you get d brown yeah the ground as good option that i can't look i don't dispute that these people are probably available right robbers hack i'll man i'm farah robert pack in a decade the tell of shrimp or on him i thought about him were recently because he's on parks and rec okay so he sees stay in risk gallon what about move abe lob mm non let's let's that's crazy lead cabin first time we ever beat the celtics he scored two point out a goal tending call as my favorite thing leg day with a can't see masterpiece at 105 3 the fed covered out next it is finally time to settle something that started like five.

"I thought it was so peculiar and to me it means that players are talking about dennis smith media go this rookie looks like he can play so there circling him on a calendar so that was aljazira an example in a segue alex to say that players cirque or certain dates on their calendars so carmelo new when he was going in new york and he knew when the knicks were coming and he knows when they're going to la because he got a crib out ear you know what i mean they they have those key dates they circle before the most part a player knows when they're going on a road trip if it's gonna be cold and when they're on a home stand and when they announced and they don't know who's coming in for the most part and always tony have those games circled but it but it definitely is not every single one a lot of players do not know who they're playing next and this is another one where i think fans will be surprised because so many fans watch every single game and no other team schedule you know they either have it on their boehner they have it you know somewhere around their house you know fans really know the schedule well and they watch every single game they can so i think they'd be surprised to hear that you know players aren't necessarily as informed as they are in some cases and again this is never player but this is a lot of the players that we've got to run into my favorite story in terms of guys not watching basketball is uh this goes back uh quite a ways but it was wendy orlando magic had ryan anderson and brandon bass and die before the game uh i was talking to them and their plane the portland trailblazers and this was when greg odin was still with them and um he was playing sometimes but he was her other times uh about two weeks before their game he had gotten injured and hebron been out for about two weeks and during a pregame interview brandon bass mentioned play against greg owed it and ryan anderson from across the locker room was like dude even watch espn leg do you watch any games at all do you watch.
