Weather center. We're under a winter storm warning until six o'clock Monday night, we've had one little outbreak of roughly happenings to three quarters of an inch of snow. Early this morning, and there's still some snow flurries out there. Almost two lights show up on radar, but if you step outside, you can feel them. There's pretty good batch of moderate to heavier snow down toward the Ellis County right now moving up toward innocents Cedar Creek Lake Area That's a pretty good old snow there, and that'll move on up into Kaufman and Van Zandt and Hunt counties and so forth. But we expect to see the snow really get with it this afternoon. Anytime afternoon, maybe one o'clock There's a large winter storm developing in the Panhandle, West Texas right now, and it's gonna be headed straight for us or high Today. 20 lows tonight three and six degrees on this no ends overnight. We expect to have anywhere between four and eight inches on the ground blowing and drifting snow can cause visibility toe be cut to less than one mile at times and wind chills will be dangerously cold. Travel is not advised tomorrow Monday. Mostly cloudy, windy, extremely cold, with a high of only 14 lows could be between zero and five above Tuesday should be dry. But snow comes in Tuesday night, and we have another one of these big winter storms on Wednesday, one other point The governor in his disaster declaration has asked everyone to conserve on electricity. "And Trail where W B A. P s first traffic on the ones I'm gonna smart. That would be a happy news time is 7 21. Let's bring up Chief meteorologist Brad Barton, Brad and we just cold here. You know, it's not like zero degrees and do miss right now. Probably probably, that's right. Too cold. Yeah, I'll tell you in addition to the cold, it's astounding. When you look at a map of watches and warnings across this country, I checked it out. I counted him and there are 16 States. Well, 15. Besides Texas Texas and 15. Other states are all covered by a winter storm warning that's going to go for various times, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama. Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. So from New Mexico to Pennsylvania, that's AH. That's a lot of area that 16 states included in the winter Storm warning, um, our forecast. Years. That's a few hours of relative calm. We had a little versus snow overnight. In fact, there's another little area of snow that's gonna hit some of our Eastern counties. It's coming up from around Ennis, and that's going to get on into Kaufman Advance and counties here before long. We'll see some pretty good snow there as moving up past Cedar Creek Lake and so forth, but we expect the high of only 20. That's been our current temperature 2018. And lows tonight, playing three of six. Now the snow will really start to ramp up, probably sometime this afternoon, maybe noon, maybe two or three or four o'clock in the afternoon. But it's gonna get real heavy visibility could get below a mile. We could have strong winds and again. That's where they're saying near blizzard conditions. It could be very dangerous to be out there driving right now there's only a little bit of snow underway. But it gets pretty bad. The SAT this afternoon and overnight the storm should end overnight. We're picking up anywhere from 4 to 8 inches of snow before it's all over and then 14 degrees for the high tomorrow and lows tomorrow night bottom out. Theo 0 to 5 above. In fact, we're looking at a low of 3 to 6 degrees tonight and then 05 above Monday night into Tuesday morning, and we have another winter storm coming on Wednesday. No end of this is there Not this week. No, this is this is unprecedented. There are no records that could compare this to any other winter weather event, the least in North Texas record history since the 18 eighties. So what do you think is going to happen now? With the road domain? It's easy to drive with the snow on, but we won't really get warm enough for it to melt and form of the ice. Will it Yeah, You're right about that, Randy. I was thinking about that. I was watching some of the text dot cameras and things like that, and the way this the roads were already frozen, and you see the snow just blowing around in little skiffs on the highway, And that is good news now. The more we drive on it, the more it will melt. And the more it'll turn into. Ah, hard slush and then re freeze and turn into ice. But right now the streets are dry outside of the snow that just blowing around on top of all right. Thank you very much. "Test for variance in the United States. We know that there was an announcement of the two cases of the New South Africa strain in South Carolina yesterday. So what can you tell us about that? And the other things you know about the new strings? I've been the biggest story of that were kind of discovering the strength actually go along. Accidentally. Um, let me start with this example. If if I asked the question, you know if you're going to stop the bitch in you and you find out they're five blue carpets and homes in the subdivision. You can't think all of, you know pecs that they're only five new carpets and people's homes. And what we're finding here is that as we're testing for the various refining them to have always been in the community, it's just that now we're actually looking for them. You know. Weeks ago we had over at 20 Million Total confirmed cases with only screens of 50,000 bill cases for the variance, and now we've been more diligent, searching and loan. Behold, there were finding Not only the South African variant, but but if you remember a few weeks ago, the Brazilian Berry was found as well up in minutes old up to the more we test. The more parents we're going to find. The question is, what do we do about it? Remember, during our first conversation, you did mention that we weren't doing enough of that testing That has to be done to find the variance and asylum hearing you. Now you're saying it is ramped up a little or a guess not even ramped up just finding it by accident. Like you said. We're talking about wrapping it up before we were not wrapping it up. Now we're talking about wrapping it up, and this has been my problem with the response on all levels is that there's been a lot of talking about the things we need to do and very slow to get them done When the United States have greater resource is than any country in the world, do genetic sequence and to find these variants that I do not understand why it's taking so long. Get those, Uh, resource is in place. Okay. Now with with the UK strain, I will think I remember them, saying that the current vaccine will Prevent that. What about the South Africa strain? This is a thing. All right. They're looking for a change is on the surface protein of art of the UK, burying the South African variant or beach Brazilian Berry. He was another backseat can still hold on Twitter. There were the vaccine is effective and so far the Fed the UK strain and the South African strange May still be susceptible to the vaccine, although the efficacy rate may be different, or maybe lower, which is why we're finding that with this new Johnson Johnson back to their speaking emergency use authorization that their efficacy rate is anywhere from 63 to 72%. Are South Africans old. Excuse me, where the Johnson and Johnson vaccine did include those high ridge population. But these very thin in which is why the jobs in Johnson's efficacy rate need lower than the majority and the five. The vaccine rates accusations. Okay? No, it's the South African strain is already in what 30 countries. It has to have been out there for a while, right? That's the point is that we know that variant emerged every day. The question Whether not are they dangerous variant or they're benign variant but dangerous. Barry will be one that Increases the risk of infection. For instance, the UK very We know there's 70% more increased risk of getting cold it from that strange but with deadly afraid of is a screen and actually increases mortality. That was sitting there and didn't seem to be getting out of the way. Share that story with us. If you don't mind yeah absolutely. It was october two thousand eighteen early october and we had decided to fly down to carbondale illinois for the regional with it is a event. We always wanted to participate in so we the opportunity came up. It's only five flying hours from the stream factory and so i decided to grab a helicopter and go down there. We a brand new four eight. Gb it only had ten hours on it beautiful helicopter. Well-equipped had garmon six fifty in it. A dsp weather traffic all all the good stuff that you'd want in a modern aircraft so the flight don was great beautiful weather cavu a five and i thought wow this is pretty neat and that four eighty is a single pilot with four passengers right correct and a range of roughly five hundred miles or so. Yeah you know we. It's about three hundred and fifty miles typically flight plan about three hundred miles. And then i then i wanna stop for fuel. That gets me about three hours. And that's a good time to get out and stretch my legs. Yeah because you're crews bowed one hundred twenty nights or so about one hundred hundred. It'll it'll go faster but it. It likes one hundred. That's it's happy and your factory is just north of <hes>. Green bay wisconsin right. Yeah we're about sixty miles. North where we're in menominee michigan in michigan's upper peninsula. Right there you are ahead a nice weekend. Now you gotta do is get home. How hard can it be. Yeah you know like anybody else. You you start your. You're planning a couple of days ahead so you look at the weather trends. You know you look at the franz you look at the prague charts and things like that and there was. It was pretty evident. There was trouble brewing. There was a cold front sitting rate in central illinois. Started in saint louis and it went all the way up through lower michigan and it was just funneling rain and thunderstorms and just generally awful weather rate. Through the middle of the state and south of it was beautiful. It was beautiful in carbondale in north of it was was good well but you just couldn't get through it and you really couldn't get around it not effectively. It would have taken a lot of flying to get around it and all of us. There were were watching it. So we're i'm talking with the other vendors air the other pilots and we're all kind of looking at this same weather as the day wore on. Were all kind of deciding to guys that are going north. Are we going to stay. Are we going to go. And i had done everything right i. I kept my rental car. I kept my hotel room. I didn't want to be pressured into making a bad go decision. I realized that this was not good weather. And i didn't want be pushed into flying into it but as the afternoon wore on it actually started to improve. It looked like the line was going to break up a little bit. And there was going to be some some gaps in the weather. My goal was to get to chicago. My sister lives in chicago. And i figured if i could get there i could overnight in chicago and i could get ahead of that. Weather weather was gonna move north. If you looked at the progress that weather was gonna move north. And if i didn't get ahead of it. Sound saturday i was going to be stuck behind it for about another week but looked like i was going to be able to get. Their chicago was forecasting. Oh i don't know eleven hundred feet and ten miles so not great weather but but certainly flyable especially in a helicopter and so real late in the day. I made the decision to go just to go back a little bit. Have at instrum we manufacturer. We have a flight departments relatively small. But we do try to do things by the book we have standard operating procedures soapies and our asclepius say that when we are away from the factory we have to have. What's called a pal pilot or a crash liaison and that somebody who's tracking us keeping track of what's going on and so my pal was our marketing manager jackie. She does that a lot when we travel. We have a little spot tracker in the helicopter. She can follow us along with an app on your phone records. Our position every few minutes and <hes>. So i texted jackie letter. Know what the plan was. Hey i'm i'm heading outta carbon delta for thirty. I'm going to get to chicago executive minister the night there come home in the morning checks tobacco. That's fine

That's the price told Fort Worth leaders and the media. The time has come for her toe. Turn the reins of government over to someone else. Amy shall drop and I talked with her honor and asked Why now you know it. Last time when I read from my fifth term, my son like was like maybe you ought to consider this again. Mother. There's so much time and our kids are getting big, but I felt like I wasn't finished this The timing was right. My family was ready for me to be home or I was ready to be home more and I think change is sometimes very good, and I think there's some good camp. It's out there. You know, there's somebody can bring a fresh perspective to the city. You're going to find yourself back in politics any time or you just taking a break. Or is this a permanent retirement from public life? So it's hard to society. Thank you. This point. I'm just, you know, focusing on finishing up what I've got the next five months and then taking a break. But I was right that give something back to my community, and I've been involved in some sort of service. Whether it's volunteer political won't time so I can't see that I'm just gonna go home and sit around. Do you feel that there's anything that has not been accomplished that you hope to achieve? You know, I looked back recently. My swearing in speech from 10 years ago from July of 2011, and I was really shocked that everything on it we have pretty much accomplished now. Are there always things left undone? Yeah, there are but I'm not one to Troy. A lot of regrets or what should have been done. I think you focus on your successes. And you learned from those and you move forward, and hopefully you leave. Thanks for other people. Has this been the hardest year because of Cove it and everything and all the unrest compared to the first nine. Oh, certainly It's been managing a pandemic. And then social analysts have been difficult, But we've had other difficult years also, and, you know, I think if you keep the right attitude, and you're out talking to people, and you let him be a part of the process that it makes the whole thing a whole lot easier. One thing that has always fascinated me about Fort Worth is that it still has its Western heritage image. It's the image of being a rough and tumble count town blue collar workers. And yet it's a modern city that has grown and stayed in pace with other major cities in the country. I would guess that that's kind of important for you and the people that That call Fort Worth home. That's very important for Earth is a city of great character. I mean, there are big cities all over the country that are great cities, but they're big, just a big city. Or it is a very different city because of our marriage because of how we came up because of the fact that we still celebrate that. I mean, we have the largest number of equine shows with great Stockyards. And yet we have beautiful world renowned museum. So we're cowboys and culture, but that's always hard to manage with the growth we've had with you. Being 20% and I've been in office from 1,420,000 to a little over 900,000 and managing that, and I think we've done a darn good job of it. What is your greatest accomplishment? And what do you think people will remember you for? You know, it's hard Decide what greatest accomplishment with the You know, I think getting the city's house and shape financially fiscal responsibility. He's been a big deal from the pension and how we come out of cousin Lawrence. I tax rate 12 Cents is a big deal for Residence of Fort Worth. Um, you know, I hope that remember, may for being open and for being connected with the people I've been out about with the people, probably more than nearly anybody because I just love hearing from people and I Always believed you can't govern behind the desk and I hope people will remember that.
