"That's left the building. Jim is next. Yeah, you left that idiot. You have to, I don't care about your show anymore. I really don't think I'll act like that. You gonna crash me like that? Laughing at him talking about trashing you. You're running your line right now. You come up with that guy, you laugh at his jokes about people, you laugh at him, but me. I'll give a about you, bog. Tempers are flaring, aren't they? Yeah, one thing that I've always said, we can have fun here, but we can't have what Jim tried to take us to. Oh, Homer is back from minden Louisiana Homer. Where have you been? Hanging out. I've been listening to you now. I shower. You know, I'm getting to work. I can have play tolerate a lady. How much did Mary now? What you doing? No, here we all, we all mellow a little bit. So what's going on? I mean, you having watching the tournament? Performing it out mama. Even though I despise them, I'm a good girl. You want a poke fun at Alabama? Old Alabama, from California to the restaurant. I've watched it three times. And I just love it. I can't believe it. And on top of that, you really Homer, you shouldn't take that much pleasure in someone else's misfortune. There's a German reward for that whole shot in Freud. And it's not good for you. Homer, great to hear from you. Let's talk to Mike in Missouri. Hello, Mike. Mikey there? Yes. We'll go right ahead. You are on the air. Hey, how you doing? We are doing great. Thank you. Good. Hey, what are your thoughts about Missouri and North Carolina to come? Yeah, I thought it was a great year for Dennis Gates and Missouri. I thought that was one of the bigger surprises of all the new coaches. So okay, Kat Danny, I know you want it on with legend. We couldn't make that happen. Are you okay with what he said? Well, big poem. My mom always used to me when I was a child just to never say nothing bad about people you don't really know. And I know we're going to know him, but I know him from your show. And the legend, he well, I don't want to go to Harvard. You don't go there, Kat daddy, and I think we'll all be better for it. We don't want to trash legend. Jesse or Jace is up next in Georgia. Hey, Jay, go right ahead. Hey, Paul. A long time listener. First time caller. Well, thank you. Thank you very much. I thought this was supposed to be some kind of ultra Christian. He just dropped the four letter word on there. He did. Because we were able to the radio lingo is dump it, meaning we were able to hit it before he got out on the airways. But the people on hold were able to hear what Jim said, which was rather rather repugnant if I might say so myself. Yeah, honestly, I mean, it was, Paul. And I mean, you know, people have been banned for less. I know. You will have to go somewhere, but you get back on the show. He will have to go through sensitivity training. And legend is teaching the course, your home will, you know, as far as legend goes, it seems to me every time he comes on, he wants to talk about the George bulldogs. He does seem rather hung up on the dogs right now. I agree with you on that. Yes, he does. So I got a little misty for legend. We're going to repeat legend. So yes, we'll deal with Alabama's days are over with. Paul, I appreciate you taking my call and hope you have a good evening. Jay, thank you. We are heading to the break. We still have 30 minutes more. And we can't wait. Hope you stick around. I built an empire. Get the money. Start back in

"Of college football lives here. This is the Paul fine bomb show, our three podcast. Welcome back, it has been a busy afternoon. I know it's a basketball afternoon. Many of you are watching and we'll keep you updated on all of the games that have been played and are currently being played Alabama goes up as up 75, 52, 9 minutes left in Birmingham. They'll move on and play Maryland on Saturday, Missouri has won today. Advancing under Dennis Gates, the first year coach, the biggest upset of the day, Furman, over Virginia. Yes, I said that correctly. Let's move on and before we get back to your phone calls, talk to Billy lucci from Tex ags, there's been a while since we've had a chance to talk to Billy Billy good afternoon and first of all, great to have you back on the program. How are you? Alex, buddy. How are you doing, Paul? I'm great. Before we get to football and I definitely want to get there. The aggies playing later tonight, pretty late against Penn State. What's the, what's the mood out there in terms of what buzz Williams has done in pretty quickly getting this team to the tournament? The mood is I really want need them to win tonight so I can get out there Saturday and see them take on the longhorns or either them or Colgate, but probably Texas. So a big one tonight a really tough one against Penn State. There are ten C that is playing a lot higher, a and M is a 7 seat that I think everyone I've heard talk around college basketball this week thought earned their way to a much higher seat than that as a second best team in the SEC. Look, Paul buzz, you know, he had a rough year during the COVID year, but he was SEC coach of the year his first year. He was SEC co coach of the year this year. They were probably snubbed out of the tournament last year. I think most would say, and then this season were the second best team in the league. So he's got a really good thing going in College Station. The fans have, if you saw anything from Rita rina this year, the fans, the students, body have really jumped on the bandwagon and embrace this basketball program. It's been up like nothing I've seen since the last time buzz was here where he was an assistant for Billie Gillespie. And the aggies were rolling with AC law and company. So he's brought back some of the magic. I think he's figured out that delicate balance, Paul between, you know, you're not going to go recruit a bunch of fos this isn't Kentucky basketball. It's a football school as buzz and said, many times. Slosh baseball season says the same thing, you know, football rules in the south, but fans will absolutely embrace basketball if you're patient and put a good product on the floor. And that's what buzz is done. And Paul, he's figured out that delicate balance between high school recruiting, guys like wade Taylor, and also going into the Porter would get guys like marble, Henry Coleman and Dexter Dennis and boots Radford. So been a fun season. You hope it continues past this weekend. This is one of those teams that kind of has the makeup of a team that can be kind of a march darling, but man they've got a daunting task in front of them between Penn State and then the number two seeded longhorns who many believe should be a number one seed. Exactly. Billy lucci with his Billy, while we were in Nashville the other day, talked to a few aggies and they're fired up about football. And that caught me a little bit about surprise because I wondered about how the mood would be after last season. So give us what to expect as the aggies are a month away from the spring game. What are you seeing? What are you hearing about this year's edition? I'm excited for spring football. I think this team, you know, in the last couple of years, they've been picked pretty high in the SEC. I know you and I have been high on a mentoring seasons and they've let down, you know, with that brief stretch where they beat Bama and auburn a couple of years ago to look like they were starting to roll. They haven't lived up to the hype. And it's been a quiet off season for Jimbo and the aggies. Probably the most quiet I can remember. I don't think that's a bad thing, Paul. I think maybe this program needs to be in that position where they are and I've seen some people call them asleep and maybe that's what some of these players need, maybe there was a little bit too much of, I don't think just I just think culturally around here, maybe everything was a step ahead of itself. Even in some of us that cover the team, even some people around, you know, SEC network. Everyone got so high on them, and I think maybe there was some reading of the old press clippings, it's been a, it's been an up and down couple of years, as you know. But I like what I'm seeing and hearing from the players that come in from the coaches I talked to, I think the Bobby petrino thing obviously was a huge talking point when they made to hire. I look around the SEC. And I look at some of the hires that some pretty big programs made at the offensive coordinator position. And I hear what's going on with Bobby petrino across the street. And how he's fit in as an OC only, not the head coach, not having to do all those things, but just sitting that building and work with the other staff members on the offense. And there's quite a bit of positive energy and buzz going on, not just from the coaching staff, but also the player. So I think low key, Jimbo may have made the one higher. That could work when everyone's talking about this transition and Willy turn it over. The best thing he could have done, Paul, in my opinion, was hire a veteran that he knows and respects and knows as his peer when it comes to offensive football. And I think actually you might finally see Jimbo with someone that they sit there and work together as opposed to just being one voice in the room. And I think that's what was desperately needed on that side of the ball on the defensive side of the ball, I still think they need some portal help. Maybe in addition at linebacker and at cornerback, but up at the top, they're going to be a pretty good unit under DJ Dirk in the show. I think that's where a lot of the excitement lies is there and with the skill position talent they have, particularly at quarterback with Conor wigman and receiver with Evan Stewart, moose Muhammad and the return of a nice Smith. Bill, you know, you know, Jimbo Fisher better than anyone and it just seems to me that it has to be quite a transition for him. He's so used to being on that practice field in charge of the quarterback. What's he going to do? It's a great question, Paul, and it is the whatever you want to call it $1 million question that $80 million question. Because I think so much of what happens with exactly what you just said. And what happens with that offense, this year, because the pieces are there. And the offensive line wasn't good last year, but they got better as the year went on. You saw them against LSU, a chain with 200 yards. They return everybody. They returned that whole group, including a couple backups. So there really is no excuse for that offense not to be very explosive. It's like with what you do and with what I do, unfortunately, you see the grays here. I've been doing this a while. I know how long you've been doing it. If you're not willing to adapt and change, it doesn't matter how long you've been doing it, you will fall behind and you will lose your edge. And I think the most encouraging thing for me from the off season is that from everything I've seen in her Jimbo's acknowledge that

"Missouri, huge win, under Dennis Gates, knocking off Utah state. A lot of people had Utah state winning that one, Missouri moves on in the tournament. There are more than likely play Arizona on Saturday, meanwhile, Alabama with a 20 point lead at half, but that's not really the story. The story is that Brandon Miller, the best player in the country, has gone scoreless. Let's check out Ron in Virginia up next to hello, Ron. Mister Paul, longtime collar, so proud to be on your show. Thank you, Ron. Paul, there is not one color on your show I dislike. I have respect for you and everybody. Jim has issues, that's his problem, but Paul, you run a professional show. We all love you. We're here for you. I think a lot of bi man ledge and all the callers, miss Cathy from Georgia. They're great people. I want to talk about Alabama basketball. Okay. I'm excited. They have not Paul, if I'm correct, been in the top four ever am I correct Paul? They've never gone to the final four. The final four and the only thing is you know this, I'm married to an Alabama woman, God bless your soul, best thing ever happened to me for 18 years. I just want to say Paul and I'll end it roll tide. Thank you very much, Ron. Yeah, I think they caught an even they've already caught a break with Virginia getting knocked out that was very likely going to be their sweet 16 opponent, which is always a tricky game. Thank you for the call, Christian. Is up next. Hey there. Yeah, we're here, Christian. Well, yeah, how you doing? Okay. Yeah, how you doing? I want to talk about sports, believe it or not. It would be nice to. I talked to you a couple of days ago about mister maravich. I don't know if remember or not. I don't continue to come if you don't mind. Sure. You know, a lot about him just like I do in all 9 yards, he died very young. And he should have died when he was 16 years old, basically because of the artery and his heart, which I'm sure you know too. But my question is, do you think he couldn't have been a better ballplayer than he was in retrospect? Looking back, yes, I do. A couple of reasons. Number one, he had a lousy coach who was his father. Press maravich. He was simply not if he had had a disciplinary type of coach, somebody that understood it was a better fundamentally sound, I think he would have developed a different skill set that would have helped him later on. Secondly, he didn't get, you know, he wasn't playing. He didn't play in a three point era. So whatever the average he should have averaged, probably another 12 to 15 points a game. And I just think, I mean, his pro career was all over the place, and it was a really sad ending, but his college career was among the most memorable ever. Right, and probably see it started out with Boston instead of Atlanta. Right. Basically because and playing with Atlanta, there was a lot of jealousy down there with the players on the team because of the money he was making and the whole 9 yards. My pick is Gonzaga, by the way, so you know. Yeah, that's interesting because I think I picked them almost every year and they fail. So the one year nobody counts on them, look out. Hey, myth is up next. In Kentucky, hello myth. Matthew there? Hope you're having it. Yeah, I hope you're having a good day. We are. We're doing great. Hey, I just want to say, I was right yesterday. I don't think bamboo is going to lose this game, so just to be clear, I was right. Versus legend, you know, I got a better feeling about that today. Yeah, I think legend had everybody losing in the SEC, but Alabama. He's already been wrong about that. Yeah, my question is, I always, how about this hard down in Virginia? I mean, he's had a lot of losses in the first round. Well, yeah. I mean, winning a national championship salves a lot of wounds, which he did four years ago, but beyond that he's had a very frustrating career there. Nothing's going. He's not going to be replaced. He's highly thought of, but he certainly moved into number one as among the, I mean, you can't take winning the national championship out of the equation, but he's now, this is now the third epic loss that he's had in the last 5 years in the NCAA tournament. Thank you for the call. Appreciate it. Charles was up next in Tuscaloosa. Hello, Charles. Yeah, hey Paul, a longtime listener

"There are a lot of games on this schedule and it's going to be you figure it's going to be pretty hard for them to repeat. If you look at the Tennessee schedule and we're chatting with Bill Connolly, you could take a lot of pictures. We've already talked about the home game against Georgia, whether or not that's for the SEC east crown, you look a little bit deeper into the schedule. They have a and M at home. That could be a big game at Alabama at Kentucky. At Missouri, Georgia. So tell me, it's got to be one of those games, right? Yeah, I mean, well, I mean, it's always Alabama. I think when you think you have a chance at Alabama, but you're right. I mean, this is, you've got kind of a game of the year in September. I came into the year in October in a game of the year in November. I guess that's SEC living right there, especially when you have lots of aspirations. I'm always going to pick Alabama when push comes to shove in this kind of situation. But I mean, if you're Georgia's game of the year, I guess Georgia better be your game of the year too. If you think about it. You know, in Tennessee, an interesting game though, the Tennessee plays at Florida this year and not so that was the let's finally escape exercise or demons. But that would be tricky. Tennessee has had a long history of nightmares in Gainesville. Yeah, and that early in the season obviously, as this game usually falls, this is going to be whatever your whatever your goals are for the year. It's going to be really, really hard to achieve them, even if you upset Alabama or Georgia later on if you lose to Florida, it's going to be hard to meet all of those goals. So you don't want to put your, you don't want to be, you don't want to have your hand tied behind your back that early in the year. And Florida is kind of a mystery this year. And they lost some key guys, but they signed a top 15 class, lots of transfers. We don't really know what to expect from them. But Tennessee better be ready, I guess. I think you've got old mission in LA schubert. I'm curious about all this because Bill, we've got a good quarterback room, maybe a great quarterback room, but the rebels lost 5 straight games. I mean, they were once a top 5 top ten team, and it all came undone. What do you make out of lane kiffin team in the upcoming season, the non conference games, Mercer, two lane, Georgia Tech, Monroe, two Wayne, by the way, as I was as I was chortling, I forgot about tulane. They were a pretty good team. Yeah, and I mean, when you're starting to look toward Alabama two weeks later, when you're gearing up for a good rebound season, having to go to Chilean in week two is the perfect opportunity to stub your toe and tulane what we saw for them last year. They're just, they're really fast. They're an athletic team for an AAC team, and yeah, that'll be a nice test of concentration if nothing else. I'll miss us to be good enough to win. They also have to be focused and we'll see. I mean, I add Alabama two weeks later, then you got LSU right after that. It'll be really easy to overlook too late and you can make a case that that might be the most important of the punch. Bill other than George and Alabama issue nationally. Are we looking at the usual suspects, Big Ten Ohio State Michigan, southern cow? Well, what am I missing here? I think, well, yeah, whoever the best team is in the PAC 12. It could be USC, but Oregon may be Washington maybe. Penn State in the Big Ten, they're going to have a lot more upside, I think than they did a couple of years ago. And if they're quarterback sticks, you know, lives up to 5 star hype. They could be a team that has top 5 potential. They'll have to be two other teams that have top 5 potential. So we don't really know how far that will go, but I think beyond that it is kind of a usual suspect situation. I do think Tennessee really, really curious where they land in the pre season polls. I could see anywhere between about 6 and 15th, honestly. And I think they absolutely have top 6 or 7 potential at least. Joe Milton, if he sticks a quarterback this time, they have a lot of what they need. So it's gonna be it's gonna be fun. Suspects a few new names, but I think we know who started off on top at least. Bill mini, thanks, Bill Connolly, joining us getting us ready for the college football season, the basketball season is well underway today, of course, with the NCAA tournament games going on. There have been some of the biggest upset of the day so far, foreman hit a shot with two and a half seconds left to upset Virginia, but beating Virginia in the NCAA tournament. I mean, that's a standard fare. They lost they're the only team in only number one in history to lose in the first round. Other than that, Maryland survives in Birmingham over West Virginia, Maryland will likely play Alabama, which is up right now, struggling 26, 17, the Alabama looks pretty bored, Kansas is pulling away from Howard and it looks like Missouri under first year coach Dennis Gates is about to dust off Utah state. That's again, that's a 7 ten game. A lot of people were picking Utah state. So that's a quick update. Many games after in the second session will update you on all of them when we come back. You

"Has multiple times said that there's no reason to discipline Brandon Miller because he didn't break any rule or guideline or policy. And I just can't balance that with what we know Brandon Miller did. Because what we know he did is drive around with a loaded gun in his car. What we know he did is take that gun to the scene of where an altercation was going down between one of his teammates and another person. We know that because the teammate texted Brandon Miller and more or less said, I'm in an altercation with somebody. I need you to bring me my gun. And then Brandon Miller showed up with that gun, and then that gun was used to kill a 23 year old mother. If something in what I just said doesn't violate a team rule, like shouldn't you have team? I would assume I've talked to coaches about this. Isn't it a team rule? It shouldn't be, hey, if you're out at two in the morning or near two in the morning, driving around with a loaded gun in your car, that is a violation of our team rule. We're just going to have a team rule. We're not going to be driving around with loaded guns in our car. Even if it is legally allowed in the state of Alabama, we are not going to do that. I think that there's probably should be a team rule everywhere. And we know that that's what Brandon Miller was doing, that he was driving around nearly 2 a.m., loaded gun in his car, and when his teammate texted and said, bring me the gun, we got to handle something. He took the gun to the guy. And then that gun was used to spray a vehicle and kill a young woman. I don't know what the proper punishment should be for that. I have never definitively said it should have been that or whatever. What I do know is that it is incomprehensible to me that at some point Alabama wouldn't say, at the very least, hold up. You were there, hold up. You took the gun there. We need to pause your participation until we have a clearer picture of exactly what went down and exactly what role you played in it. And if that would have lasted two weeks and four games or three weeks in 6 games or four weeks and 8 games, I don't know what to appropriate, what is it? I could make the case that if you are connected this closely to a murder, you shouldn't be representing a men's college basketball team regardless. But I've never made that case. I just know that him never missing a second that he otherwise would have played. Despite everything we know about his role in this tragedy, just feels wrong. Wrong to me in wrong to most people. And that's why this is clearly become the biggest story in college basketball. Bigger than Kansas trying to win back to back titles, bigger than Houston trying to win a championship in Houston, Brandon Miller, and Alabama are the story of college basketball. And it'll continue to be that way until they're done playing college basketball, either because they were eliminated from the NCAA tournament or because they won the whole thing. I was just going to say a couple more things that stood out to me from the SEC tournament before we move on. One, I expect there to be a more hostile reaction in the arena when Brandon Miller caught passes was announced during the starting lineup that when he reentered the game, it wasn't. It was Alabama fan for just boisterous and their support of him. And the other 13 SEC fan bases represented there didn't seem to care. That struck me as unusual. I didn't expect that. The other thing was Alabama boldly brought him out to the main interview podium after the quarterfinal game and continue to do so throughout the tournament. In some ways, an effort to get him reps, I think, in front of reporters before the NCAA tournament. So he's got the no comment thing down. They've kind of worked that the kinks out of that a little bit. So surprised to see them so openly doing that. Also surprised there wasn't more hostility directed towards him. So just a couple of more notes there. Well, that's what I was going to ask you is, what was the Alabama reaction of Brandon Miller and what was the other fans reaction to Brandon Miller? I mean, 'cause I wasn't in the building. I see what I see on Twitter and there's like two students from this school for Channing Brandon killer, right? I guess you're going to run into that. You're going to run into that in certain set of circumstances, but if Alabama ain't asking my advice on this stuff, but if I were Alabama, at this point, you can't undo what's been done, but I would have already already had him sit down with Marty Smith from ESPN. Marty's got an incredible calming demeanor to him. He's really good and really likeable. And I think you could really Brandon Miller. As long as he's clear in the clear legally, like you don't want him to jeopardize himself legally by granting an interview. But if you felt reasonably sure that he is legally in the clear. I would have had him sit down with Marty Smith for a pretty. Lengthy one on one interview and let him say everything on the record that he wants to say and I don't mean this as an indictment of Marty because I think he's terrific. I'm just saying maybe the SEC and Alabama and ESPN are all in like significant business deals together. Maybe Marty would allow him to tell his version of the story without really pushing back too hard and trying to get a gotcha moment or anything like that. And then after that Brandon Miller could just point back to that interview every time so it comes up in a press conference. Well, I've already addressed that with Marty Smith. I did it last week in Nashville. I just don't feel like it's time to talk about that stuff anymore. You would have something to point back to right now. They don't. And people aren't going to stop asking these questions. He can keep saying respectfully. That's all I'm going to say about that. But he's going to have to keep saying that because the questions aren't going to go away. And the stories are only going to get bigger. The Washington Post had won over the weekend. You'll see non sports media outlets come in and focus on Alabama and Brandon Miller. And it won't be because this super freshman is leading the crimson tide to perhaps its first national championship, it will be because of the incident that he was connected to back in January. Let's move on. Obviously, we don't think Alabama is going to have any trouble in the first round against either southeast Missouri state or Texas a and M Corpus Christi. So that can't be your favorite first round matchup. But what is your favorite first round matchup in the mid in the south regional rather? Yeah, so for the site, I actually was tasked with writing about the south regional, which makes this really convenient. And I went Missouri, Utah state because of the offensive fireworks that could transpire in this game. You got a 7 ten matchup, which is inherently a good game, usually. And then you've got two of the best three point shooting teams in the country. Both Utah state and Missouri both make over 9 threes per game. Neither one of them is overwhelmingly invested in playing defense. And it's also the type of game where even if a team falls behind by double digits, they could still quickly erase that in a two minute span with some three pointers. Steven ashworth for Utah state is one of the best three point shooters in the country, really without question. And then Missouri is just a team that I really enjoyed at the SEC tournament this week. I think Dennis Gates has done an unbelievable job getting a slow paced low scoring team last year under Kondo Martin turned around and playing at a super super fast pace and scoring a lot of points. Now just in year one of his tenure there, just an incredible turnaround that I know you wrote about recently in the top 25 and one. So Utah state Missouri, my favorite matchup in the south regional. I think mine is Charleston, San Diego states, classic 5 12 matchup, and these are two teams that have accomplished a lot this season. Charleston is your CAA champs, CAA tournament champs. San Diego state mountain west champs mountain west tournament champs. Charleston 31 and three. Won their league won their league tournament, but a

"It got to a point where it wasn't even debatable. Should they give him another year? Should they ride this thing? It was so bad last season. Georgetown loyals wanted to do it after last season. The school didn't and then things got even worse than they were the season before, at least as it pertains to some computer numbers. So we've known for a while we were getting to this point, it is, yeah, I would agree with rob. It's sad. We've talked about lots of times over the years. It would have been super cool to watch Patrick Ewing bring Georgetown basketball back to its place among nationally relevant programs. Outside of one week in an empty Madison Square Garden where the hoyas won the biggies tournament that just was really never the case. So now the job is open and you touched on some candidates. The big one that generates all of the discussion is Rick Pitino. So let me ask you this. Georgetown's open, some people believe St. John's is going to open. Those are two prominent jobs I'm just going to open. I would be flat stunned to St. John's doesn't open. I think there's a good chance it opens today. If it doesn't open today, Monday is the absolutely. So here's the question. Do you think Rick pizzino can pick between those jobs? Do you think both of those jobs will be on the table for him? And he can pick which one he wants. All right, here's where I don't want to say this. I think that is possible. I think Rick Pitino would rather have Georgetown than St. John's. If you gave him true serum, I think that would be the situation. I would love to give Rick Pitino truce around. What in the world? I think St. John's has more aggressively behind the scenes prepared to make a charge at Pitino than Georgetown at this stage. I think there are more people that are gung Ho at St. John's about getting Rick Pitino than Georgetown at this stage, which does not mean that by Friday afternoon, even though, you know, Georgetown has been running an unofficial search here for weeks. Let's be real. It doesn't mean that that situation couldn't change with Georgetown. By the way, I feel like you I hope you can't hear the sirens. They are blaring right now. Outside my window. Hopefully that's not bleeding through the podcast. I don't know if you will have the outright pick. I am, I have now reached the stage where I'm at about a 95% that Rick Pitino will not be at iona next season and I think St. John's is getting ready to go all out and just sell out the best it can to get Rick Pitino. Having said that, you know, the flying the ointment here right now is the fact that Georgetown is open, St. John's is not as we are recording this podcast. So from a public standpoint, the Hoya is have a, you know, they have a slight lead in the race public facing behind the scenes. I think there's been at least a little bit of action for a few weeks here. If I were either school, I would hire him. And I would try to do it. I know you can't technically do it today. He still coaching, but you get the point. I would try to have that done ASAP. And it's not even like Rick Pitino's super famous and Rick Pitino's one national champion to forget everything Rick Pitino is done. I'm not even basing this on his accomplishments, snacking. I'm basing it on this. I don't think you can hire a more sure thing than Rick Pitino. At this age in this year, who could Georgetown, I'm asking this from an honest place. If you have answers, give them to me. Who could St. John's or Georgia town higher that would be more of a sure thing that within two years within two years, you could reasonably assume this guy's gonna have you in the NCAA tournament and it might be quicker. There's no one from a resume standpoint. It is irrefutable. Now there is obviously the potential that you could say Rick Pitino versus candidate B, C, and D and candidate B or candid D or candidacy or came to the E, we look up at four or 5 years and that candidate actually is outperform what we thought retainer would have done. Because one of these codes, one of these schools, at least, is not going to get Rick Pitino. So let me be clear for a second. I would hire Rick Pitino both schools if you're Georgetown and you could get Ed coulee. That would be amazing. I think Ed would be great there. Dennis Gates has now won at a notable level at two different schools. I'm a believer in that guy. I'm not saying Rick Pitino is the only candidate that would do well at these places. I'm just saying he's the first one I would offer my job to. I would as well and he gives you it's just it's everything you could ask for. In terms of for both of these programs, you need a higher that energizes the fan base. I mean, Georgetown has lost a significant portion of its fan base over the past decade because it's been sitting in St. John's has not been as bad as it has been close. It's been sitting in the bottom three of the league. Saint Johnson's not want to tournament game since the year 2000 2000. Was the last time St. John's want to tournament game? At least George, I'm in a final four and O 7. So we'll see high probability with all that. I will go chaos theory on you real quick here and this is just me thinking aloud because I was thinking about this randomly. I don't, I don't know if I'd cool it would leave provenance or not. But if at Cooley left provenance and took Georgetown, Rick Pitino once upon a time started his head coaching career at Providence, and where did you read about that? And so, you know, that brings another biggie's program into it. I don't have that as learned information. I just thought about it. But that would be domino on domino. So,

"Here with me. He's in a hotel in New York City. I'm in a totally different hotel in New York City. If you're watching on YouTube, smash the like button like you're Brandon Davis. You have kids sitting if you haven't yet. Subscribe to the CBS sports college basketball YouTube channel. Please do that while you're here. Let's get into it before we get to some notable results. And of course, the final four on one where I have what some have described as an insurmountable lead. There is coaching news to discuss. And we're gonna start with the Thursday's biggest announcement. And that's that Georgetown is now officially in the post Patrick Ewing era the school fired. Its greatest alum on Thursday, one day after the hoyas were eliminated from the big east tournament dead, like we all knew this was coming still notable news that the Georgetown job is officially open. And it is notable news. By the way, I'm calling through, I hope my Wi-Fi is going to be good. I'm just saying that off the top, all right? I think I'm solid. I rebooted the laptop. There have been wi-fis in this issues in this hotel. I'm not in the middle of Indian. I am in the middle of Manhattan, but hopefully we are good and we can get through this without it. Sounds like you might be in Pittsburgh. Yeah, I have an Internet problems in Pittsburgh. We're going to get we got to get to pit at least for 20, 30 seconds before we close this show. Let's talk Ewing. Let's talk Georgetown. Yeah, it was inevitable, but they did fire him. And they termed it a parting of the ways. This is a firing. If you have years remaining on your contract and they pay you, you have been fired. So. I was sitting there with the great Ralph Russo, a wonderful AP writer who was a football first guy, but always does some awesome pinch hitting for the AP. This time of year with conference tournaments and NCA tournament. He had to pass and comment at the garden last night and he was saying, no, this is so sad. Russo actually asked doing the final question he'll ever get in a press conference as a presumably as a college head coach. And he asked if he wanted to come back and Ewing kind of gave like a little bit of a stock answer, but he said he kind of left that press or feeling like, yeah, this really is sad, man. It just did not work at all 6 years. Total flame out, huge disappointment. We've talked about it many times on the podcast before. The page is turned. And here we are. Georgetown basketball for the first time since the early 1970s is going to, I will say, presumably, I mean, anything is possible. You can technically rehire John Thompson the third if you wanted, but we'll have a head coach of that program not connected to the legend and legacy of big John, John Thompson, junior. And so it is time for that people thought it was time for it, you know, three years before JT three got fired, but they went with Ewing. We wanted to wait and see how that went. And it didn't work. It didn't work out. So I did post a story with some candidates. They're not all the candidates are just 6 names that came to mind. Patino is obviously the biggest name. I would keep an eye on Micah Shrewsbury, a Penn State, there has been some buzz on that Cooley, but as you and I discussed on the desk at CBS Sports Network yesterday in between our shows, well, Ed Cooley, if first of all, if you get an offer, will he actually leave Providence, I don't know, but there has been some noise there. Mike bray was in the top two or three last time when you and got the job. I put his name in. I put Jeff caples name in. Now I don't know if capable would be choice one, two or three, but he did just cool his hot seat. And he's going to be back in the same exact position next season if Pitt is worse than 7th or 8th in the ACC. So I had someone find me a few weeks back saying, you know, capable gets any sort of chance that the Georgetown job obviously you take it. And then I put my boy on there as well. He's a young coach who's done well and recruiting, but I've seen the likes of Kevin keats out there. Some rumors of like Dennis gates could be actually bought out at Missouri if they'd really chase after him. I was told this by three different people in different ways. I was told Georgetown will hire either Rick Pitino, Mike bray, or it will be a black coach. It will be that. And bray is considered a long shot, but Pitino is the biggest flashiest name. So that's the candidate pool that we are looking at right now. Just some final numbers on Patrick Ewing. He finished 75 and one O 9 at Georgetown, 28 and 81 in the big east. Two and 37 in biggie's games in the past two seasons just unimaginably bad. Georgetown was 175th at Ken Palmer at the end of last season. 225th at Ken pom currently, and so

"Thankfully enough, Antonio Reeves has come to life and been major case in Wallace. We wait on when he will return severe Wheeler still out, Jacob toppin has been good. Still a team of holes. CJ Frederick has not been available the entire season. So we wait on that, but Kentucky and what it does, it's always a storyline, but because it's gotten its act together in one 5 of its past 6, the only lost happening by two at home to vandy, the fan he's been hot is something I'll certainly keep an eye on. Any other thoughts on the bracket before we get into the players to know here? Yeah, I mean, the most interesting game to me and the more preliminary side of things is Arkansas and auburn. Auburn's lost 8 of its last 12, even after beating Tennessee to close the regular season. They are considered a bubble team at this point still by Jerry palm entering the SEC tournament. And then Arkansas, I just thought they were going to get it together. Once Nick Smith got back, I still think all the ingredients are there, but they're limping into this tournament on the heels of three straight losses. In fact, they're just two and 5 since Nick Smith returned to the lineup. And statistically, he's been really great in the games that he has started since he's returned over the last few weeks. But the hogs are they safe? I mean, Paul technically doesn't have him on the bubble, but I mean, there are 9 seed. I suppose there's a scenario here where things get a little dicey for them. I think they're safe. If you bring up a good point, I think auburn's in, it's a lock. I made my case for that on Sunday Night on Sunday Night's episode. Because I just at a certain point man, you had a lot of these resumes and there's only one more game for some of these teams, right? And then some teams will get two or three more in their conference room, depending on how they win, I think auburn has done enough. It's 9 and ten and quad one Arkansas is actually super interesting. So Arkansas three quad one wins. It's 7 and 11 in the top two quadrants with the quad three loss. There are some, how about this? There are Michigan vibes here, except the computers are all in on Arkansas. So it's safe. Right now, Arkansas ranks 21st or better in every predictive metric of the 16 sheets and then the two resume metrics. You hear me mention those a lot or repeat them again. KPI, which has nothing to do with how much you beat a team buy, what you're projected to be. This is strictly on who you've beat. Total resume, that's it. 24 there. It's 42nd and strength of record. Arkansas is vulnerable. But I think it's going to get in. But there's a ton of fascinating stuff happening with that team from the players. It has available what it hasn't hasn't done. It's skidding into this bracket and the resume is up. It's like Arkansas like Providence. It's up for some real scrutiny. So I'm glad you brought that up. It certainly certainly a good point something to keep an eye on. Some players to know. Go ahead. I was just thinking like, they go to rub and crush Kentucky without Nick Smith and then Nick Smith comes back. The number one overall prospect in the nation, true freshman. And they haven't improved. But Musk is the type who over time always gets players to gel together and always seems to get the most out of his roster as the season goes along. So there's that part of me that just can't let Arkansas go. So there, I mean, they're not the team that I'm going to pick as my bit thief or like dark horse or whatever, but they are a team that I think is potentially dangerous and among the most intriguing of any in the country this week. That's a 7 eastern tip on Thursday on the SEC network. Loser of Arkansas auburn track it for where they wind up in the bracket. That'll certainly be intriguing. Some players to know, Brandon Miller is obviously the most accomplished player. He's the most talented player in the league. 19 .6 points per game. Antonio Reeves is averaging 14.2 for the season, but he has been one of the three best players in the conference in the past minute here so we got a couple of fourths in this league that you got to know. Ricky counseled the fourth from Arkansas and wade Taylor the fourth at Texas a and M, who's a really, really good point, are both those guys are averaging 16 and a half points per game. Kobe Brown at mizu is another name I'd give you. Kobe brown's good enough. When you look at that bracket there and mizzou is just chilling on the four line. Maybe Alabama is ripe to get picked off. And if it doesn't happen in its first game, does it happen in the semis and could Mizuno maybe be that team? We'll see. It's going to be Tennessee or Missouri almost definitely. In fact, I'll say definitely. Olmes in South Carolina have no shot at getting to the semis here. So either Tennessee or missou will wind up facing off in that semifinal on the top half of the bracket there. Kobe Bryant's a really good player and has done it for a while and I'm really excited for him and that Missouri team with Dennis Gates to have a chance to add to the resume. They're obviously going to the NCAA tournament and that's certainly something to keep an eye on. Any players I did not mention Cobb that kind of sticks out to you from an SEC standpoint just wanted to give a couple there. But Miller Reeves counsel Taylor and Kobe Brown were 5 off the top of my head. Yes Matt. In fact, I'm going to give you this individual stat line from the last 11 games and make you guess who it is I'm talking about. I love this. All right, let's have it. All right, the individual in question here, over his last 11 games, averaging 18.3 points per game, 8.9 rebounds. That's kind of a giveaway. And also 2.3 assists while shooting 62.2% from the floor. That's over this person's last 11 games. Who am I talking about? Give me that stat line. One more time. 18.3, 8.9, 2.3 on 62.2 from the floor.

"Outside chance of things break the right way, it could be the final two seed. Outside chance? Oh, I think there's a chance. I think there's a chance Gonzaga could get there. If you really look at what they've done and they beat same areas again and they do it like definitively, just keep an eye. They're pretty intriguing and then on Tuesday, I don't know if you have that just might as well mention the ACC tournament technically gets going on Tuesday. Now it's not going to be the most appetizing things out there, Notre-Dame, Virginia tech, Georgia Tech, Florida state. Louisville, Boston college, I guess that's the other match up there. So you got that in addition to just a litany of other conference tournaments that are getting underway on Monday and Tuesday. Some breaking news from our friend John Ross dean just now. He is reporting exact fremantle, done for the year. Not coming back for Xavier. Done for the year? Out for the remainder of the season. That's 15 points, 8 rebounds a game gone, had not played since January 28th, but if I remember correctly, you broke this news. That he was going to be out and the information at the time, not to question your point, like it was literally from Sean Miller's mouth. Sean Miller told you that they expected to have him back maybe by the end of the regular season. If not, then probably by the biggies tournament, but they've now just said, nope. Okay, that's intriguing because one Xavier without Zach Freeman is not the team that it is with him. They just don't have as much dynamism on offense and firepower. They've done well without him, but that I actually think a healthy free man on Xavier makes the musketeers like a fun long shot for a final four. And now you will not talk me into any scenario where that happens. Well, I wouldn't even try. And Miller previously said that he would he was on pace to be healthy enough to return by the biggies tournament, as long as it went the way the doctors were going with it. Now, we're doing this in real time here. The rothstein also tweeted Saturday morning, he tweeted Saturday morning free mantle had been cleared to return and would be at the same time decision. So we have gone from, and listen, on my end of it, I'll just say at the time I didn't feel like it was, it was one source I didn't feel like it was worth reporting. I was told that that free mountain was not going to be flying on Saturday. And he did not play. But we have gone from that clear to play game time decision to out for the remainder of the season and freemasons has got a stress reaction. So yeah, that is something to keep in mind as we go to the biggies tournament. I don't have the backup in front of me, but I'm pretty sure Xavier is the two seed in that bracket. So that's not great news for the musketeers. Looks like one more. Yep, okay. I'm here right here. All right, he's going to have surgery. That's why he's done. So what? What is going on right now? Okay. He must have tried to give it a go. And there was still enough pain, and then they gave it another look. Actually like doing with the breaking news here live on the pod. But yeah, that is man. That's a real bummer here for Xavier to not have free mantle available. And so they'll have to adjust. It's been a good year in year one for Sean Miller. They have overachieved versus expectations and now to see if you can catch a little bit of magic in Manhattan and then you can see that where you can see it and make the most of it. If Xavier fans would have taken a tournament appearance in one win in the tournament at the beginning of the year and I still think that team is capable of doing that. Yeah, I think definitely capable of a win in the tournament. Just based on the seed, they'll probably get. It's gonna put them in a game that is winnable, but obviously this is a big boy when you think you're gonna have this guy. And then he's not available. Still, like you said, you're one Sean Miller, good season. If you're talking about guys in the first year at new jobs doing well, that list is Jerome Tang at Kansas state, Sean Miller at Xavier Dennis Gates at Missouri, Christians at Mississippi state. Are those the four best among the four best, yes. By the way, not a says apparently saint Mary's is with them in our side chat here. What? Yeah, I'm just letting you know. It's at the inverse dim situation. I'm on them. In Vegas of all spots, I can't believe you'd go all the way to Vegas just to hang out with another them. Yep, you know? I just stay home. I was gonna hang out with him. They sit around and they provide. Like when somebody starts, it's like I have an a sponsor. Like when you start to slip up a little bit, you just surround yourself with other people, you can tell you no, no, no, don't. Don't give in, stay strong. I know there's a strip club right across the street with the Orleans, but just stay strong. The Llama whisper was in the comments. Said that he doesn't think there's a strip club right across the street from the Orleans. If there's one near there, I am not surprised that our commentary has Intel immediate. To send back to us. It's gotta be one near there. Hey, Romania here. I feel like maybe he's getting ready to roll up. But I do want to say a reminder, if you missed Friday's show, we are going to be on CBS Sports Network, the podcast on Tuesday, and Wednesday at four eastern. CBS Sports Network hour long show,

"You know, this dog, this dog, down in Louisville, on Tuesday night, there were some halftime entertainment and lo and behold, as it's getting ready to do some more of its stuff, it gets in that dog position. The tail starts to bend. The hind legs get a little bit higher. Drops a heater right there on the hardwood. What in the world? Louis Louisville. What a season for horrible. As everyone correctly pointed out, if ever there was an appropriate and apropos, a poetic symbol of what the season has been for the Cardinals, it was a dog taking a dump on the court. And that's exactly what happened. Everybody knows Louisville, I guess, to everybody. Louisville's four and 26 overall two and 7 in the ACC. There are two two and 17 in the ICC. There are two in 17 in a bad ACC. I mean, what are we doing? And it sounds like, you know, all of the reporters out of Louisville, who I trust are just sort of like, yeah, they're going to do it again next year. And that's fine. I don't care, but they're going to give them a second year. They should give them a second year. Okay, let me stop here. Why should they? Why should they? You don't have any answer for why I did that. I understand what you're saying. I think it would be only we talked about this a couple of months ago. But Kenny Payne didn't inherit the easy situation. It doesn't excuse me. Neither did Jerome Tang, neither did Dennis Gates needed a Christian. I know, I know, I know, I know, I know. You could argue that his situation was the worst of all of them. But he is an alum. He played there. He's the first black coach in the history of that program in a city that prides itself on a lot of these elements there, and it would be an awful look to fire him after the first year. So I believe Kenny Payne is deserving of at least a second season. Particularly because it also the reputation he carries with all of that. So that would be my case for it. But I know the counter to that would be if behind the scenes you think you just don't have the momentum, you might have made the wrong hire, just pull the plug now. That could be the case, but there's something to be said that maybe that won't be. Maybe we'll be talking about the cardinals in the middle of next January. And they're in third place in the ACC. It's possible. It's not likely, but it is possible. So I just think there's still, we need more data. That would be my case for it right now. I acknowledge being a prominent alum matters. And that should be considered. Being the first black head coach in school history is something that matters and should be considered. But really, when I hear people make the case for Kenny van getting a second year, those are the only things they say. You say you could see them, maybe they finished third next year. I doubt it. I'm just saying. More likely they finish in the bottom three as opposed to the top three. And then what? They'll do it next year. They'll do it after next year. My whole thing is if you are if you have decided, yeah, we'll do it after two bad years. If you've decided that and I'm confident they have because anybody would do it after two bad years, especially at a program like Louisville. If you've decided that, we will do it after next year if next year's bad. Well, then what are you waiting on? Because next year is probably going to be bad. There you go. I don't know. And the dog took a dump on the court. And a dog took a dump on the court. And these are animals that are trained to do this. Has this has this canine ever done this before? It was it was a funny all too. It could have been any court in any arena in the country, and of course it had to be Louisville. I only got one more thing before we proved that we in fact, this can be the segue here. On Thursday night, in the horizon league tournament, the top seat is Youngstown state. It's going to play Detroit mercy and we could have history here. And coincidentally enough, it's going to come just a few weeks removed from what LeBron James did when he passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all time NBA scoring record. Antoine Davis dropped 38 points on Tuesday night in the opening round of the horizon league tournament, his Detroit mercy team won 80 one 68. And so now he needs 26 to have the all time record in men's D one, he is averaging over his past 9 games. He's averaging 34.4 points. He has been shooting for this record for a while here. And more power to him, more power to him, year 5, he's getting it done. 8 of his past 9 games, he has gone for more than 30, and in all 9 of his past games, he has scored more than 26 points. He needs 26 to pass Pete maravich. It's not a guarantee. It just feels like a 90% proposition at this point. So that will be Thursday night, some horizon league quarterfinal action worth watching. What else we got on the docket here for? Well, let me ask you this. So Antoine, let's assume he does break this record in his next game. That's going to be a 144 games. He played. 88 games or something. 83. That's just an 83. All right, so like I struggle with like how big of a deal is this?

"Games, here we go. One point loss at home to pit. 6 point loss at duke and just in an unappealing game for Carolina duke. 7 point loss that felt like more at wake completely handled Clemson and that's now looking a lot more like Clemson than Carolina, but 20 point win. You got it. That was a week ago. Handled. At Miami rolling in the week, it was an 8 point margin handled. And then couldn't keep up down the stretch on Sunday at NC state. Three of the 5 losses have come on the road, but lost at home to pit, a team also fighting for its tournament life, lost at home to Miami, a team that was just knocking on the door of being a four seed on Saturday in the bracket reveal. Carolina, you asked me and. It's got to be Virginia and duke in the regular season. I think it's got to go four. If it doesn't do that, if it has a loss anywhere. It doesn't matter where it comes from. It's me. Three in one, two and two, and good night. Good night, okay? Three and one. Work to do in the ACC tournament and I have not gamed out this damn ACC bracket who the hell would want to do that right now. But UNC, is it 8th or 9th in the league? Here's the problem, man. Let's say UNC is 8. All right, somehow it doesn't win, it doesn't go for no. It just lands on the 8 line however it lands there. It's got to play Virginia, probably. Like, come on. Unlikely. So right now I am saying 57 43 UNC is not going. I think Caroline is magic number, even though you can't, you know, there's no scientific method to this. I'm just a GP's a baseball guy. I'm gonna throw a little baseball terminology into him. I think Caroline has got to get minimum four wins to get into the tournament. And there are definitely people out there saying, you know, ACC championship game, regardless. Now, that's not necessarily true. If it won the final four, the regular season, and then one, it's first in the ACC tournament. I think objectively that's going to be enough at that point. I think so. But I think it was more likely than not that you wouldn't see will not get there. And that was not my stance 5 days ago. It wasn't my stance on the pod. We did a drill handoff. And you can just toss your hands up in the air and just be like, this is it. I actually blame the podcast. You know what? Camouflaging go to birds and leaky black. This just runs with the theme all season long. It's our fault. This is on us, leaking apologies, Carolina. This is our doing from the start. We brought leaky on in the preseason. Number one team. You see what's gone just to absolute. You know what, since then, as much as UNC fans want to blame Hubert Davis, blame us. It's our fault. I'm pretty much with you on this. North Carolina goes for no, it will enter the ACC tournament on the right side of the bubble. If it goes anything less than four now, it will enter the ACC tournament on the wrong side of the bubble. But three in one would still give them a chance to get there. Two and two, yeah, you're going to have to. Yeah, that's two and two and you got to win the auto bit. I'm almost convinced of it. Doesn't matter how the two come. If you get the two against Virginia and duke, but you lose to Florida state Notre-Dame. What are we doing here? So two and two is not getting a cut. And I know not as completely out on UNC. I don't even blame blame them for that. But yeah, I don't know. There's no way you saw what you saw over the last 6 games and think that this team has any shot. They're done. You guys don't feel like killing them? I will do it for you. Just make sure we have this. For when we need it, okay? 'cause there was moments last season when everybody said they were done soon. And I know we're deeper into this. I know we're deeper into this than we were last season. But I don't know. I can understand why you might think they're done. And you might be right. But 68 team tournament, they ain't that far from it, even right now. They're just not. People do not, you got to put 68 teams in there. You have to put 68. Talk about this. Something people don't talk about it now. These other podcasts out there, they don't know. You got to put 68 teams into this thing. I've got a question from Joel in the YouTube comment that I think a totally reasonable question. He asked, how do you evaluate league races? How good teams are in leagues with such uneven schedules in these big leagues. And I guess to that, my answer would be, when it comes to league races, I just talk about them as they're presented. It's understood that in the ACC, the Big Ten, the SEC, everybody doesn't play the same schedule. And yeah, some schools are going to have easier schedules than others. And that might actually contribute to who wins the league title and who doesn't. But I don't care about it. If you finish with the best record in your league, you are the league champion and I labeled you as such. If you're in first place in your league, I call you the first place team in your league. I don't spend a second trying to, well, trying to qualify it with, well, they've had an easier schedule than this other team. You are in your league what your record says you are as it pertains to where you stand within that league. Broadly speaking, when it comes to evaluating teams, like for the top 25 and one for the NCAA tournament selection process, I don't even look at league records. I mean, I don't look at them at all. It's completely irrelevant. Yeah. It's why texting an M still isn't even close to the top 25 and one. Even though Texas a and M is now a 12 and two in the SEC. I saw a quote from Dennis Gates heading into the Missouri Tex a and M game, and he said, I don't know how you can be second place in the SEC and not ranked. Well, I know how. You start the season 6 and 5. You lose to Murray state and you lose the wafford. You take two quadrant four walls. So from a league perspective, when it comes to a league race, I'm just looking at your league record. I'm just talking about your league record. That's what a league race is. But when it comes to evaluating teams for the NCAA tournament or for the top 25 and one or I'll let norlander speak for himself, but the hey 19 power ranking that he does, I'm looking at your entire body of work. I genuinely, right now, in some of these leagues, with some of these teams that I have and I don't even know where they're at in their league. I mean, I mostly do. But I don't pay attention to it. I don't care about it. It has no factor. I'm looking at your total body of work. And that is what the selection committee does as well. I'll just say this real quick and then we can move on talk about all these other teams and games. I don't know if there are many things that coach and coaches and players should care about this. You want to win your league. But between media and coaches that just we just diverge so greatly on it. When you have a conference championship is a major thing. I'm not dismissing that entirely. But for the purposes of how we talk about teams and how they're playing, we can acknowledge that kind of stuff, but it just doesn't mean as much to us because we're not invested in that. And fans, I understand fans will care about a league race as well, but particularly if we're talking about team that's between third and 5th and a conference, it just doesn't matter to us. Yeah, so that's the story with Kansas Baylor with NC state and North Carolina. Those were two

"I have no idea. Bringing on Michael Porter's father. And that's an injury. I mean, if those guys stay healthy, it's a different deal. Right, but he didn't get that momentum. He never got it because of the injuries to both. They made the tournament last year. The transfer portal really hurt him. Yeah. And I honestly, from playing for him, I am shocked that guys left him because I think so highly of Zoe. Everybody does. I know. I wonder. Do you feel like maybe the problem with console these days is he might be too honest, too old school too honest? I can see that. You know, kids don't want to deal with that anymore. They want to get their ass kissed. Maybe. I mean, he destroyed shooter. There's no doubt that you always knew where you stood. With coach Martin. I love concert. I love this sad that didn't work out for him. But yeah, you talked about kind of the pedigree that Dennis Gates has. I just think that this is more of an on the job than anything. So I think this is more of an indictment of Missouri than it is Dennis Gates. I'll go, I'll go see. I just think that if Zoe couldn't get it done, I wonder who can. Because he's from the area. I mean, condos from east St. Louis. Yes. When they hired him, I was like, he is going to murder kill at Missouri. Kill it. We all did. We all did. All right, Xavier, with maybe the biggest surprise, I don't know, surprise. I think it is because nobody found Xavier was going to open this year, right? They had such a good team back. They were did they open because they knew that, oh, you're saying just because you thought that they were going to make the tournament. I thought they were going to be good. Everybody did. They were good. The first half of the year, they were terrific, and then they tail spend it so that Greg Christopher kind of had no choice, but he did it after an NIT win. I mean, who does that? Fires the guy. Yeah, that's true. It's so weird. So weird. But they go get Sean Miller and Sean considered South Carolina and Xavier and I honestly think it would have been like, well, if one had moved quicker than the other, he would have taken like if South Carolina had moved much quicker than Xavier, he would have taken South Carolina with all the NCAA stuff still kind of looming and not knowing how many games he's going to get hit. By the end of the day, but he goes back home to Xavier and.

"Rely on people like john who are on the road right who who are on the inside We can't katy. And i are famous. We'd we'd do searches. We don't make ten calls. We make a thousand calls brian. Because we call the ten people about you. You're screwed right or we call if we call the right ten people by the maybe there. You're you're a little more elevated than it should be. You gotta call and do the work and again. That's not during the search. That's three sixty five years in advance on some of these deals. I wanna say to real quick to check katie. All information you guys were given this is tremendous and spot on. But i gonna come educate you guys about the assistant coach especially at the five level even at the mid major plus level. No homage program. This winning is the head coach nontheless terrible misconception. You guys think that winning games in the head coach is doing is four sisters over there and they got their thumb. Just hang out. i'm gonna. I wanna make sure you understand this. Y'all lead this call kentucky with a top notch program left and went to the nba and the whole program change. Nobody don't want say that. But that's the truth so you judge people aren't consistent behavior. Not what they say what they do if certain people involved with programs as winning championships. Full six seven eight years in a row. So they'll get emotional read down. That's what i'm that's what. I want to say that you guys as a search firm. You can't got michigan state win. And say i gotta go down there and see dwayne. Stevens is really coaching. righty culture. Because tom izzo ain't doing it by himself. And if he walks in the door. Tom is living the day. He will have a hard time like red sample. This is the big. Were only a promise you that so i think you you search from people got it. I know y'all veteran calls and call people. But if there's a program win you can bet your bottom dollar that the assistant coaches that are involved in that program have way more to do with that situation than you guys. And i think you guys assume the other way is almost like you're you're guilty until proven innocent when you assistant coat and it should be the other way around. Does that make sense to you. What i'm saying. yeah. I think you're payments with a broad brush. Their you know you saying no. I just that because it's so hard. Flynn assistant coach. Get ahead job so consistently you got guys. Listen we did. We did arizona and penn state this year. Who got the head. Jobs says ood. That's too but i can tell you. There's coaches being recycled job. That they'd probably shouldn't you know i don't say the mix that higher right now. We're not presenting assistant coaches. They've got people on this interview for my job. That our assistant coaches the didn't hire them arch up to hire. Somebody are put you in a position to be able to meet the. Ad facilitate the whole thing. And then they decide if you could hire just like with dennis gates. Dennis gates redick late. Wednesday guy from st right was He was an assistant coach. You know and so. I think that it's really situational. It's based on what the eighties willing to put his neck out for if more comfortable. She's more comfortable Hiring someone hasn't coaching experience sometimes because situations that's what they choose to do and what. We do have a track record of sure that a lot assistant coaches are involved in our searches. And it's your job to go in the job. How much do you guys look it. 'cause i wonder that this this stretch this past cycle a little bit like some assistant coaches that have been part of programs and hadn't won got head jobs and i'm like i'm looking at saying why are the guys in everybody. This news reason everybody in this call is on this call because they all come from winning i. I don't understand that to me again. I know you do the higher. I understand that. But i don't even know if i bring somebody to the table that were in a program that hadn't won like i would want to me. I'd be hiring for programs that are winning. Why wouldn't you third in any sports that we've done where someone's been hired from a not a winning situation. It's through there are examples. I can't remember the search were. We've done where that's been the case we've we've been involved from searches where I coaches getting hired of maybe nfl to pro or college or college nfl but You look at that though is that is that a a top of your list of hegg. Come from a winning program. is that coaches. We've pushed for to get in the pool. That aren't in a winning situation. But are crazy. Good coaches sure ryan. You know people that. Are you know either down here program or some house top. And that are just really good coaches that a little bit of a bad bad luck on. We found katie. Told me if. I'm wrong or clients. The eighties are risk adverse. So you know they. That's again back to wife point. You know if you've got someone erupt be honest. Any first time head coach is gonna make mistakes your gun. I don't care how ready you are. How prepared you are. It's different job. You're gonna make mistakes. Couldn't be on recruiting could be on. Ncwa rule could be on media appearance to be on the donor. Parents could be anything. So if you're the your jobs on the line you know yes. You're trying to get the best coach. But you're also doing risk mitigation figuring out how how big of chance to take so backing that other point is dwelling wanna hire coaches coming from a losing situation. Not not many of them. Do there are exceptions. It does happen. But you know. Jim i think in my mind. I don't know which ones you're referring to but we haven't been involved in a lot where you know someone has come katie abilene and even some of the smaller schools. Search we on not really. I mean the the. The people don't think like mediocre shepper when their lead. But you know the the president job. They've done where they are in situations. That are tough. I think obviously some of the two and previously had coat. You know gonna head coach. So and he had him. I wasn't saying you got march. I was saying overall. I don't even remember. You know it's interesting in basketball things because i just come up a lot of football searches so much i feel for you on this guys. So much weight is put on the ncaa tournament. Which i think is bogus like. I'd rather see what you did in conference throughout. It's harder to win a conference championship. Then make a run the ncwa my opinion. You guys could tell me. I'm crazy but like twenty two games on the road classes as travel hostile environments. You come out with a conference championship. Finish that to me is more impressive than upsetting virginia. That's more impressive than that. Yes yeah i mean you know like anybody can get hot one day. Get cold on one day. We tweeted both okay. We wanna regular season last year. So you know it's more impressive. I think and i'd love to hear you guys. We wrong that a wrong opinion. Nine chat i me personally. I get when i was with coach. We got an at large bid at southern miss. Which was that was pretty crazy to be honest. And then we got an at large at colorado state in phnom in the last two years. Obviously last year was cut short because.

"Excuse me, Florida, state was not going to do it. I can't do it but trust me. So I'm having this conversation. I had to clean the narrative up. I said, do you know that we get a McDonald's, McDonald's All-American every other year, Carolina, Duke, Kansas Kentucky, they get em every year. They tell them that you see that you're so impressed with their two and three-star, guys that we've developed. So how we underachieve it but Monday we're taking the Diamonds in the Rough and making them about it. Shouldn't you be commended for evaluating developing? I mean that makes you a great coach but that's the narrative that was being put out there. That's absolutely ridiculous. So now then escapes myself stand Jones, without fighting to get jobs because some guy doesn't, you know, he doesn't, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Yes, that's that's why I keep telling you guys. It's very important to understand the narrative birth control the narrative because the narrative is, if they don't get it right, it can Crush you. Well again listen, I would say part of that too, is reaching out to people in the media. You know, we're all accessible. If we get it wrong, if I screw up, call me. Call me out. I got no problem saying I was wrong, zero, I'm wrong. Plenty. Their nose job better than anybody, but but again, we're accessible. So the more we talked to you guys, the more we find out. Yeah. Yeah. Stan Jones, he's not just a guy who can drop a play, he could actually recruit a little bit to write. Cy tells me that all the time. They know what? Hey, he went and got Boston copra, Visa Bing, Bang, Boom. And nobody wants to give him credit for that. But listen, everybody shopped that Dennis Gates is a monster, Cleveland State. I work right here in this office. With their young Thundercat, that boy loves the truth when he was here he was gone off late but that office. See why, what I will tell you is I've had plenty of head. Coaches in the past. Tell me a guy is really good, so he can get him the hell out of there. Too long. So there are some dudes, I'm not going to call names but I know it, I know it. Okay, I've had it and I don't fall for that shit anymore. I know at this point. Hey hey. Using profanity on our good phone. I'm sorry. Sarah bleep. It out, thank you sir, appreciate. All right, listen, we're going to wrap word about an hour and 15 hour and 20. Now I know, listen, I appreciate everybody doing this. I know. See, why does to Des great for coming on and kind of telling your story and why? It's Jackie TSU. I know it took you about, I don't know. Ten minutes to convince me when I called you up and and was shocked in and fearful a little bit of of you know taking it I appreciate all you guys coming.

I really really stood out to me because of how different is compared to the other state school in in indiana marquette will end on marquette and port more heavily in the equation here in fact. If i'm a betting man i would say porta. Moser is the coach at marquette in in in a couple of weeks i don't have any inside knowledge to that but i just feel like it fits You know that's a job. And i'm told he has his long Really thought was a a job. One of the best jobs in the big east. They've got incredible resources fan base that is absolutely backs it's it's teams in its players and again good like to me. It's the right time to take it over because whoa joe didn't win a tournament game seven years. I've been porter again. He's different than whoa. Joe is different than most guys like again. I don't know porter super well. But i know a lot of people who know porter super well and again. He's that glass half full all the time. But he's got super energy. So i think that helps with recruiting and again like you know. Be line porter. Moser chaaka is from wisconsin. I don't have second get marquette at this point. I almost think the way he or somehow ends up at indiana and chaka finds a landing spot from texas as he had it and like he's going to get fired. I don't know at this point. I mean again. There's a chance after losing that game against abilene. There's no worse way for the season ago than that because you build up the expectations you win you win you win. You're supposed to go everybody's picking the final four and then you lose to a team that you had no business losing to so the only thing that saved you the last couple of years. Robbie is your bio and now the bio reasonable doubt that they can make a move if they want and that'd be wow yeah crazy. Who else be a dark horse. Like a dentist gates was miller. I think dennis gates is involved. Paul along with again kenny pain. Those are two names. I think it'll be one of those two if i had to. Guess gets kenny pains and interesting for to paul. Because he was insistent at kentucky when peavy there was was senior associated kentucky. Now he's he's at depaul. Make him a call here. Kenny paints now with the knicks. He's got a big bio. I'm told but again. If you're leon rosen worldwide west. that's your boy. Don't you just let him go like you're gonna really hold them to a buy out at this point. I i know you want him because he they're banking on the fact. That kenny pain will help you get free. Agents to to new york devon booker. Karl anthony.
