Fresh update on "democratic national committee" discussed on The Hugh Hewitt Show: Highly Concentrated
"What are pronouns? It's time to grow up and get back to work. Introducing the number one woke-free job board in America, RedBalloon.Work. Welcome back, America. I'm Hugh Hewitt. Senator Tom Cotton represents the great state of Arkansas. Good morning, Senator. Welcome back. Good to have you. Good morning, Hugh. It's good to be back on with you. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to you and your listeners and an early Merry Christmas. Thank you. Let me begin with Peter Baker's tweet of about three minutes ago, summarizing a New York Times article this morning. Biden's administration warns Israel that it must fight more surgically and avoid further mass displacement of Palestinians in its war against Hamas to avoid a humanitarian crisis that overwhelms the world's ability to respond. I can't even believe that. Can you imagine that during our battle in Mosul or during our battles in Japan and Germany, Senator Cotton? Yeah, the Biden administration should shut its pie hole. Israel should bounce the rubble in Gaza if that's what it takes to destroy Hamas's infrastructure and tunnel network and kill all of its leaders and its fighters. And like you said, of course, we didn't hold ourselves to this standard in World War II. Nobody was wringing their hands about getting humanitarian aid into Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan. And over the span of just a couple nights, spring of 1945, we did much, much worse in Dresden, Tokyo than anything Israel's done in Gaza. So the Biden administration, once again, as I predicted, starting on October 8th, is in overdrive trying to pressure the government of Israel not to take steps necessary. Well, they're in overdrive to be Janus. They want their pro-Israel Democrats to believe that they're 100 percent with Israel, and they want their pro-Hamas Democrats to be convinced that they're 100 percent in favor of Palestine. You can't pull that off, Senator. Yesterday they got ahead of Israel and said Israel's agreed to the pause, and Israel hadn't agreed to the extension of the pause. They did, but they hadn't when Biden put the pressure on. Yeah, Hugh, I think you put your finger on an important point. This is not just a matter of misguided and muddled thinking about national security as Joe Biden has been guilty of for 50 years, as Bob Gates, his former colleague in the Obama administration, wrote. This is also about Democratic Party politics. The Democratic Party is tearing itself apart over Israel right now. You have an open revolt of people who work for Joe Biden, not protesters in the streets alone, but people who work for Joe Biden or work for the Democratic National Committee, condemning him, writing open letters, condemning his policy, organizing boycotts of the 2024 vote, and that's why Joe Biden seems to put more pressure on Israel than he puts on Hamas. Senator, you've actually led platoons in a combat area of Baghdad during the surge. As you watch how Israel is proceeding, how do you judge their level of caution and their effort to minimize civilian casualty? Well, first off, Hugh, let me express my admiration for the bravery and the skill of the Israeli Defense Forces who are operating in Gaza. It's like nothing I faced in Baghdad in 2006. Some of our soldiers faced some fighting like that in places like Fallujah in 2004, but certainly far beyond the intensity of what I faced in Baghdad in 2006. By all indications, the IDF is operating with unusual care and restraint, as they always do, because they know, their leaders know, their elected leaders know they are held to an unfair double standard by international opinion, and they've been very deliberate, very careful, not only in trying to minimize civilian casualty but also to protect their own forces. And I hope we'll soon see what's happened in northern Gaza, happened in southern Gaza, which I suspect is where most of the at-large Hamas leaders have escaped to over the last five days. Now, Senator, I just spoke with Ambassador Oren. I spoke with Aviv Reddy Gurr earlier about what comes after after Hamas is destroyed and as many of the hostages as possible are freed and rescued. And their answer begins with negatives, not the UN, not the Palestinian Authority.

Biden urges unity at overhauled National Prayer Breakfast
"President Biden heads to Philadelphia today to promote lead pipe replacement and address a national Democratic Party meeting. He hasn't announced a reelection campaign, but some of President Biden's likely themes will be on display tonight at a Democratic National Committee gathering in Philadelphia with the State of the Union address coming up next week, Biden has been talking about unity, infrastructure, jobs, and manufacturing. The DNC says Biden's speech will highlight Republican efforts to undermine the progress the president says he's made during his first two years. A theme he hit on during a speech in New York earlier this week. We've created nearly 11 million. 11 million

"Here. This is balance of power on Bloomberg television radio. I'm David Weston. Well, we've got some developments now with respect to 2024 as we hear the President Biden has suggested that perhaps we should not start the democratic process with those caucuses out in Iowa and they're going to be deciding exactly what they do next. To take us through it all, we welcome now our political contributors, Jeannie chanzeaux and Rick Davis. So Jeannie, let me start with you. Who gets to decide? Does President Biden get to decide this? Well, it's going to be the Democratic National Committee. We already saw one vote in favor of his proposal. Some people are calling it the Biden protection act. Other people are calling it Biden's revenge on Iowa and New Hampshire for not supporting him, not just in 2020, but Iowa over the years. You know, he really has very fond feelings for South Carolina and that's where he'd like to push this thing. So that would be if he has his way in the DNC supports it, that would be the first in the nation. And of course, I was wondering, David, if you had a part of this vote because we see Michigan moving up your home state as well, would be fourth or 5th in line if this plan goes through. And of course, the reason that Biden is pushing for this as he wrote in his letter to the DNC is because he wants to diversify the primary goers, the voters at the beginning of the stage who are from the black and brown community. He wants to diversify geographically. He wants to have diversify in terms of the more rural and ideological aspects of the party and they haven't found their way into Iowa, New Hampshire, which have been the first in the nation for since the 1970s. So this is what they're pushing for. We're going to have to see if it happens. It's still got quite a ways to go before we know for certain what the calendar looks like. So gee, I'd be less than honest if I didn't save my heart warmed just a little bit to see my home state of Michigan mentioned there, whatever it means for the nomination program. But Rick, I'm really curious from your point of view because you've run these political campaigns. You've run presidential campaigns. If the only goal and I'm not saying it is, if the only goal was to get the best candidate, what's the right answer? Well, first of all, if anybody thinks it's a fair trade to have to deal with the upper Peninsula of Michigan as a trade from being in Iowa in the winter, it's not a fair trade. Look, I think in this case, it actually causes a lot of controversy within a Democratic Party because they actually have to they make the rules. They impose them on the states. And if anybody is sitting around thinking, gee, if Biden doesn't run, maybe I will. Just really changes the nature of the election. And you have to rethink all the things that you thought. I'm a retail politician. I like Iowa and New Hampshire. What am I going to do now? You know, I've got to go to South Carolina. I don't have relationships in South Carolina like I do in Iowa. What if you'd won Iowa? And now you want to realize all of the advantages I had, whether you're a Buttigieg or Bernie, who did well in Iowa. Now you don't have those advantages anymore. So I think it really throws a monkey wrench into the democratic caucus. Jeannie, how much did I do this to themselves? Rick was saying this a little bit earlier. You and I and Rick were out there when they couldn't figure out who won the caucuses for a good long time. They remember they had that new system. They put together a very proud of it. It just all broke down. How much of that is part of the problem? I think it's a big part of the problem. You know, both Iowa and New Hampshire are going to fight back on this. We've already heard this. New Hampshire may be a more solid ground because that was quite a disaster for the 2020 Iowa caucus. I think it was about 2024 days before they counted the votes, but you know, they do both have state laws, which says they will be first in the nation, so this puts the DNC in a position where it's going to have to decide, does it strip these states of their delegates, and they may decide to do that, but I do think it's an important conversation

All right, Paul, thank you less than a week to go to the midterm election and President Biden plans to ramp up his rhetoric about threats he sees two democracy. The Democratic National Committee says the president will give a speech tonight at D.C.'s union station that's just down the street from the U.S. capitol to address the threat of election deniers and the stakes for democracy in next week's vote. White House senior adviser Anita Dunn told axios this morning, the site and timing of the speech are significant because she says that's where there was an attempt to subvert democracy on January 6th last year. Speech is set for 7 p.m. Wall Street time from the nation's capital. Expect long fights over the nation's debt and defense spending if Republicans take control of Congress, Bloomberg's Amy Morris reports from Washington. The Republican position, which members are still formulating, could set the stage for an explosive standoff next year, defense market analysts tell Bloomberg that the defense budget would likely get caught up as the GOP fights over discretionary spending and raising the dead limit. Uncertainty could impede both national security and the defense business planning, Congress has yet to agree to a spending bill, but all signs point to an increase over Biden's budget blueprint. Speaking at a Friday Democratic National Committee event in Washington, President Biden criticized a House Republicans knew what they call commitment to America plan. That's a thin series of policy goals with little or no detail. We didn't hear and mention the right to choose. We didn't hear him mention Medicare. We didn't hear him mention social security. The president said some Republicans want to put social security and Medicare on the chopping block and accuse that party of seeking to criminalize abortion nationwide. He accused many Republicans of hypocrisy for their praise of police while defending rioters who assaulted officers during last year's capital attack. As the Biden administration moves forward with a plan to forgive thousands of dollars of student loan debt for most borrowers, the student loan burden is pretty low in some states, including California, Eddie reports. According to a survey from wallet hub, California, Washington, and Utah are among the states with the lowest student debt adjusted for income. The survey didn't say exactly why California came in with some of the lowest student debt, but it could be because of the state's extensive community college and university network where tuition is typically lower than out of state or private schools. "They were stunned that the Zucker box thing is real They're like wait wait let me get this straight That's not illegal for a multi multi billionaire to start some foundation with money he earned from social media to tilts left to give primarily to Democrat counties to incentivize voter turnout They're stunned You as the attorney general how is this legal I don't understand I'm having a hard time getting my arms around that Well our legislature actually enacted legislation once this came by to stop this to prevent it from going forward But obviously there are still things that we're looking at related to that to make sure that any funds were consistent or spent consistently is what the law was at the time But really it is one of those things Dan when you sit there and you the left you're so organized So for example there was a case last year Argued that the U.S. Supreme Court called bernov and C where you have the Democratic National Committee their lawyers at Perkins cooey and filed a lawsuit trying to overturn our state's limitations on ballot harvesting and out of precinct voting And I personally I was the same after me because I stood in the breach and defended that went to the Supreme Court and that paved the way now for states to go ahead and LAT a nap Election integrity measures But there is also other cases where for example here you have the Democrats tried to extend the ballot curing period And I stopped and I went to federal court stop it but they didn't pay for Pennsylvania And that's why you have some of that chaos and anarchy when it came to how balance procured mail in ballots were cured in Pennsylvania So the left was very organized They were very systematic and they picked or they chose their targets wisely That's why you saw this kind of chaos going on in swing states

"First term republican. Us rep. Stephanie buys in central oklahoma's fifth congressional district and earlier this month hauser's republican state superintendent joy hofmeister abruptly switched parties. It hopes of becoming the democratic nominee to take on governors. Who better to help us. Sort through all the political calculating and help us separate the contenders from the pretenders than someone who successfully steered himself through the electoral minefields former governor and now democratic national committee. Man david walters who it just so happens was our very first. Observer cast guests on february eighteen. Twenty twenty the audio is terrible. The debut was unforgettable somehow survived for eighty episodes. Now thanks to governor wolters keen insights in episode. One psalm. Back and listen to that. I'd like to hear some keen insights provide us lord. No doubt about that. So let's start with joy hofmeister because that is my goodness. We have a lot of ground to cover. But i haven't say anything like that really at that level. What can you tell us. Give us the inside scoop inquiring minds want to know. What can you tell us. Well i know it was a it was a long it was i think people have. The impression happened overnight. It was a long thoughtful process. That i i believe. Superintendent off meister went through along with her husband. Jerry and their family and I frankly thought about three months ago that it was that it was done and then And then she decided that she was so worried about her responsibilities. I think taking care of the kids in when he got several hundred thousand showroom that you're responsible for in the superstructure government is not allowing Folks like erred properly. Protect them as they thought they needed to be. Giving local school boards responsibility. I think he was so focused on that she just was not ready to make that decision but then within the last month obviously she decided to go forward and i you know i wouldn't. I wouldn't central to that. But i was aware of it in had an opportunity to visit with her on on occasion or two and so delighted that she decided to do that. I know she reached out for advice. Counsel from a number of people but you know in the end it was just a it was just a raw act of courage and an expression of independence and And i frankly. I'm i'm i really admire what she has done. Because i've heard some democratic actress like oil. You know she's just using the party Label do they know where we live. I mean who how how d- behind your name on a statewide race so it's so it's When i say curry i'm by by mean it. I mean it's a. It's an uphill climb but but the mechanics of the race. Look pretty positive we could take. We could You know designed the best democratic candidate you could find who's been in the party forever and You wouldn't be as competitive in my view as joy. Hofmeister is going to be and then we can talk about morbid but i just i just want to say that i'm you know i. I knew her a little bit. But i know her better. Now and Very impressive smart. independent thoughtful. Leeann kind articulate. She really You can tell you know you can tell when a candidate feels it in their heart and soul and And she does. There's there's no alterior motive. There's no super strategy here. He's not trying to polish your credentials for national ron or any of that. She just wants to solve these problems. And as as of the problem the solutions to the problems we face are really quite simple. If you find somebody that has the courage to step up and present the solutions. And that's that's worry falls short. So many times people get skipped so wrapped up in the politics either of their national party or otherwise. And i think she's going to be free of that. Then we'll be able to to address the issues of we face no com seven. Or do you really think. Because their criticisms i've seen of her switching to democrat Have one being Why can't we run a real progressive and kid could i. Real progressive means win statewide race in oklahoma. And does it really matter in your eyes. if she's moderate slightly lefty far radical left. Know i mean what. What is your take on this idea of. Why can't we write in real progressive. I'm not sure what all those labels are. But let's say that real aggressive as a You know there's the you know me four point for you you know i can sit there and listen to see for example and and there's not a thing. She says that i disagree. With think bernie sanders does a phenomenal job of framing characterizing. The issues presenting it. And you know by the time you get to the end of his speech you're commenced of as to what the right path is. Why look at those as being sort of ideal progressives but but in in oklahoma. If you put somebody up there that is just stay d. Just a progressive. Just somebody who is going to be on in left of center if he will They're gonna they're gonna lose the rural areas by forty percent. They'll lose them by thirty to forty percent and we can't make up that difference in urban areas and and depending on who's on the ticket and the time new ticket we got a midterm election here You know there's going to be a level of enthusiasm more than likely higher on the on the other side and And so it's a it's an uphill fight. Whatever you do but imagine if you have a problem solver a thoughtful person somebody who's values on education and healthcare and on A host of other issues is going to be much closer to the democratic. Party's values than than the republican party. And i think that's kind of where she got to. But imagine that person stepping out of a ahead or not stepping out of but coming from a statewide elected position as republican. I can't tell you how many people ran into the said. Oh my goodness i turn. I change parties because i admired joy hofmeister. I wanted to also beat janet teresi back in the day and so they changed parties. Vote for off meister in the in the primary against maurici and in the number of people who didn't change back we've already seen a bit of a blip on democratic registrations and it's those people coming back from having changed a registration reporter originally in that primary and so So what we're going to see. My my view is that you're going to have ten or fifteen percent. Maybe it's twenty. Maybe it goes much higher than that. But but i think that's in that.

I'm also president of a rotary called rotary club of community action against human trafficking and we applied for a grant but Incentivizes people to get the vaccine so the one population that i am addressing in a different capacity are survivors of human trafficking or domestic abuse or sexual violence. And what we put for our action plan was one. They don't want to be identified so we were able to get health care workers where these individuals can come in. do not have to give their. I d do not have to show any type of identification. They can put any name on the sheet that they want because all mainly what the healthcare workers have to show us. How many vaccines were used. Not necessarily who got so. That's what we told them they can do that. They don't have to show id. They don't have to identify themselves. The second thing is a one and done like johnson johnson shot. They're not gonna come back for a second shot so we had to make sure we got him. You get one and then you're done so you talk about vaccine hesitancy so we have the grant put in for incentive plan to give them fifty dollars amazon gift cards. So that's what we did and you know that we were able to get several vaccinated on friday last week and we're going to get a few more thursday so making it anonymous so they don't have to. Id themselves making it a one and done kind of shot so you don't have to worry about getting second shot and incentivizing them. Those three things have worked for this particular population and that might work for other populations. So that's what we need to think about. How do we get them. Vaccinated the point as vaccinating them and it also impacts health insurance premiums as these individuals that are not vaccinated if they get the virus one. it's easily transmissible. And if they end up in the hospital they're staying there longer so that that impacts all of our premiums.

Discovery of pipe bombs in Washington, DC obscured by riot at Capitol
"The people who were there at the Capitol last week who participated in these riots. They sort of have made it easy on investigators because they were so over open on social media. They really were open about it on social media. They took photos and videos of themselves posted them online. Some of the rioters, though, have been harder to I D. But investigators are getting help. As of last night, the FBI had received 70,000 tips from the public to help investigators identify and track down these folks. Um I under stand that investigators are also trying to figure out if there was an actual organization of some kind behind the attack. What can you tell us there? It's right in, officials say it's gonna take time. Weeks. If not months to T O figure that out one of the keys to unlocking that question may lie in the two pipe bombs that were planted the day of the insurrection. They were found outside the Republican National Committee in the Democratic National Committee headquarters, which are both on Capitol Hill near the capital. Those bombs didn't go off, so they haven't received a ton of attention since last week, I talked to Chris Swecker. He's a former head of the FBI's criminal division. And he said those bombs suggests someone at least had done some planning. Concern eyes that this person took the time to run how to build pipe bombs built the pipe bombs after buying all the materials. Then transported them to the scene. You know the capital so that that's certainly indication of pre planning on on that person's part. The challenge for the FBI, Swecker said, is going to be to build out from there, whether that individual was working in tandem with others and how it's connected if it's connected at all to the violence that happened at the Capitol. How do they go about doing that? Well, first would be identifying who planted those bombs. The FBI has put out a grainy photo of a suspect. The individual is wearing a gray hoodie, a white mask black pants on black and white shoes. The FBI actually released new photos of the suspect shoes and backpack last night. They think the shoes maybe special edition and could help identify the individual. Now FBI agents have been canvassing the neighborhood on Capitol Hill, where these two bombs were found, asking residents for say, footage from the ring doorbells. Or businesses for CCTV footage. The devices themselves, I'm told are still being analyzed at the FBI lab, and those could yield a lot of information for investigators, according to former FBI agent Dave Gomez. There are signature aspects to bomb building type of case type of device. The timer and all those components are evidence. There is nothing better. Or investigator than to find an intact device. Invested. Investigators can pull fingerprints say from those devices. They can trace back the materials to where they were purchased. And all of that can help lead to the culprit. And of
