"Hasn't elected any Republican to statewide office in 20 years, and it's been 40 years since the state picked a GOP governor, but this year, Democrats are becoming more and more concerned about key races, as national and local trends take a toll in recent weeks, legion analysts have moved some of them to toss ups, including an unusually competitive, three ray race for governor. Oregon political watchers, the team playbook spoke with last night. Noted that while their state has a true blue reputation, its gubernatorial races have stayed relatively close in recent cycles, and this year, there's a wild card. Independent candidate Betsy Johnson, a moderate former democratic state legislator, is pulling support from democratic nominee Tina kotek, giving Republican nominee Christine treason, a credible chance of victory. Both Johnson and drazen are using crime and homelessness, a centerpieces of their campaigns, drazen, a former state representative, has decried democratic COVID lockdowns and climate laws that have raised energy prices. Johnson is running as a leader, the chief states, it's a loyal only to the people of Oregon, who could break through partisan logger heads and Salem. Biden's visit to Portland Friday and Saturday appears primarily aimed at bucking up support for kotak among Democrats. The sizable chunk of whom appear to be considering a vote for Johnson. In a Tuesday news conference hosted by the kotek campaign, advocates made their spoiler fears plainly known. And do executive director of Planned Parenthood advocates of Oregon said kotak was in real danger of losing, adding that a vote for Benz Johnson is a vote for an anti choice Republican. National Democrats are feeling a bit more optimistic, though they acknowledge the race is way too close for comfort. Democratic governors association's spokesman David Turner told playbook on Tuesday night, the Johnson ceiling is getting lower and lower day by day. But the democratic anxiety is only begin with the governor's race. They might be exceeded by fears that Republicans could pick up as many as three dem held House seats in the state. One democratic strategist in Oregon told us last night. Oregon is going to be a battleground state this cycle for a whole host of reasons, and it's definitely not a role that Oregon is used to filling. Those reasons include the challenging national landscape for Democrats, no democratic incumbents in key races, rising voter anxieties over crime and homelessness and Republicans successfully pivoting away from some of their more controversial positions. We got a breakdown of some competitive organ districts in today's playbook. You can check it out at Politico dot com slash playbook. "The Senate seems to be hanging in the balance. The house people had thought it would almost definitely go to Republicans. What's your take? Listen, I think it's a lot better than it was three months ago, but we need to continue to get better over the next 60 days. We've got a third of the Senate, the whole house, 36 governors races, vice chair of the democratic governors association. So there's a lot of tight races for the trend is good, but we can not take anything for granted, I'd rather be playing our hand than their hand, but we're going to sprint through the next 60 days. Okay, governor, it's always such a pleasure and really beneficial to talk to you. I really appreciate your time. That's the New Jersey governor Phil Murphy. And we're going to return thanks a lot for being here. We were going to turn that to that big news out of GM today as it unveiled its $30,000 electric SUV the Equinox. Earlier, we talked with chair and CEO Mary Barra, and we started with how the Equinox fits into her ambitious plans to be all electric by 2035. While the Chevy Equinox is incredibly incredibly important for us to reach our goal to be all electric for all of our light duty vehicles by 2035 and also for our goal to sell more than a million EVs in North America by 2025. And why do Equinox is so important is because it's a great vehicle and it's affordable. And so to get a high volume of EVs, you've got to reach the mainstream of the market. 20% of cars sold retail cars sold are in this segment. And when people see this vehicle because we've been able to leverage the altium platform and the components from whether it's a Silverado or the blazer, it gives us the ability to give customers more at a very affordable price. So the equinox is key and I think customers are just going to be like, wow, I get all this technology for around a starting price of $30,000. So you talked about the 2035 goal and also the 2025, 2025 is not that far off. Exactly. Assume you make your aspiration of a million vehicles. How many of them will be equinoxes? I think it'll be a fair amount, but if you think about it at that time, we'll have the Hummer truck and SUV will have the Cadillac lyric that is doing extremely well. We'll have the Silverado E truck, the blazer, the Equinox, and some vehicles we haven't shared yet. So I think it will be very important in a big part of the segment because it is the largest segment, but we've got a very strategic portfolio that covers the market from luxury truck all the way to affordable, but fun and just great technology. I think many people to this point think of electric vehicles as the typically being for more upper end, higher end of the market. What is your research to tell you about the appetite for Middle America, the middle range for things like the Equinox? Well, it's changing. I really think we're seeing a tipping point where people are saying, you know what? I'll consider an electric vehicle, but it's got to have the right range. So one thing that's very important about the Chevrolet Equinox is it every trim level, so from the base from level up to the top, you can get 300 miles of rain. So that's incredibly important. And then the other thing that General Motors is doing, you know, we've announced that we're going to invest over three quarters of a $1 billion to help build out the charging infrastructure. We're also working with the energy companies around the country, as well as startups. And we recently announced a partnership with pilot company, and that's going to be important because pilot we can get almost to every 50 miles. There's a pilot station, which is going to give people the opportunity to charge. So when they say it's got the range, it fits my lifestyle. I can afford it, and I feel confident in charging. That's when we know they're going to make the decision to go EV. And you're going to realize it's a better vehicle. You know, it's not like I have to give anything up. I'm moving to a better vehicle. How does it fit the economics of General Motors? I mean, let me ask you very directly. When will you be cash positive unit by unit? I'm Equinox. Well, we don't talk specifically about individual profitability. What we know is the Chevrolet Equinox will be profitable along with all of our EVs. Again, because of the purpose built alti and platform, the fact that we're localized and our building cells in country and ramping that up. And then leveraging our tremendous scale. So that is why we know we're going to be profitable across the portfolio. And this vehicle will be profitable as well. There have been a lot of issues about supply chain. Involving U.S. industry generally and specifically in the auto industry, specifically involving General Motors. Where are we in supply chain right now? And I'll ask it in two parts. One is chips. We now have the chips and science act. What's that going to do for you? Let's start with that. Well, I think first of all, the chips and science act was so important because we need to have the capability to build semiconductors in this country. So I was a huge supporter of the chips act. But that's going to take a couple of years. So we see the situation improving, but we think we'll still have challenges with semiconductors going into next year. But every quarter seems to be a little bit better. And what we're continuing to work very strategically with the supply base. And then what General Motors is doing for mid decade is we have defined three families of semiconductors, and that's what we're going to use in our vehicles as

"Republican governor Larry Hogan accuses Democrats of being engaged in what he calls an unprecedented effort to elevate fringe Republican candidates endorsed by Donald Trump. He writes in an opinion piece in The Wall Street Journal that in Maryland, the democratic governors association spent millions in campaign advertising to help a QAnon conspiracy theorist Dan Cox win the Republican nomination for governor. Hogan tells CNN State of the Union. I don't think there's any chance that he can win, but there's no question this was a big win for the democratic governors association that I think spent over $3 million trying to promote this guy and it was basically collusion between Trump and the national Democrats who propped this guy up and got him elected, but he really is not a serious candidate. "Over Kelly Schultz. He's a first term Republican delegate from Frederick county. He's served just a few years in Annapolis. You could say he has a thin legislative resume, his claim to fame is that his views are closely aligned with where many Republican rank and file voters are, and he's not just a Trump flavored sort of Republican. He got the endorsement of Donald Trump. And Donald Trump called in to Cox events during the campaign. So I think it was a very, very significant factor. And of course, the democratic governors association ran a $1 million worth of ads, ostensibly calling Cox to conservative, but it appeared that the real purpose of the ads was to let the GOP base know that if they like Trump, they're going to love Dan Cox. Hey Bruce, on the democratic side, Wes Moore is leading with almost 37% of the vote. That's almost ten points more than candidate Tom Perez. Can he make that up with a mail in ballots? Is that possible for him? It would be hard to concoct a scenario where the profile, if you will, of the mail in voter. Population was significantly different than people who decided to vote either early voting or in person on primary day. It's a lot of ground to make up. "Republican candidate Kelly Schultz was endorsed by her former boss, the outgoing governor Larry Hogan. It's unclear who Cox will face with a democratic field of big one that's still too close to call, although author Wes Moore, you know, endorsed by Oprah Winfrey is actually in the lead. We're standing in a group of believers that we as a state can be bolder that we can move faster, that we can do this and we can do this work together. Now state begins counting mail in ballots tomorrow and we get into some of the results here from last night and also follow the money in Maryland with Jessica Taylor who joins us once again on this day after the primary Senate and governors editor for the cook political report. It's great to have you back Jessica. Welcome. How long do we think it might take to learn who won the democratic nomination? Well, the more I had a former DNC chairman and former Obama labor secretary Tom Perez by about ten points and we saw a much heavier democratic mail in voting than Republicans, which is sort of the trend we have been seeing. So if this counting starts tomorrow, if there's a clear trade, sort of that I expect that sort of ten point maybe a little closer margin continues. I think we could see it called within the couple of days after that just we're just unclear how fast they're going to count too. So that's become an issue. Of course, lately, I want to ask you about who actually bankrolled Dan Cox's campaign though because this is, this would be whomever the democratic nominee is their preferred rival, right? Much has been made of the fact that the democratic governors association dumped over a $1 million. I think it was closer to $2 million into ads and mailers for Dan Cox if we can say that, they were critical through the eyes of a Democrat, but they emphasized his ties to Trump. And the idea is that Democrats would be able to run against the person they saw as the weaker candidate. They used an ad campaign called
