1st officer in Nichols arrest accused of brutality as jailer
"The first officer in the arrest of Tyree Nichols had been accused of brutality as a jailer. Before police officer Demetrius Haley pulled Tyree Nichols from his car last month, Haley was accused of taking part in the savage beating of an inmate at the Shelby county jail, the 2015 incident was so disturbing that 34 other inmates, the entire cell block, signed a letter to the corrections director. Part of the letter stated we are truly asking that this matter gets looked into before someone gets hurt really bad or loses their life. It's unclear if Haley was ultimately disciplined for the incident or cleared of any wrongdoing. He's one of 5 officers charged with second degree murder in the death of Nichols. I'm Shelley antler

Tyre Nichols documents: Officer never explained stop to him
"Tyree Nichols was never told why they stopped him in a traffic stop. I'm Lisa dwyer. Newly released documents show that the officer who pulled Tyree Nichols from his car before police fatally beat him, never explained why he was being stopped and emerging reports from Memphis residents suggest that that was common. The Memphis police department blasted Demetrius Haley and for other officers as blatantly unprofessional and asked that they be stripped of the ability to work as police for their role in the January 7th beating that according to documents released by the Tennessee peace officers standards and training commission. They also include revelations that Haley took photographs of Nichols as he lay propped up against a police car, then sent the photos to other officers and a female acquaintance. But I don't think anybody could really expect a rookie a 19 year old player playing his second game against semi MBA competition, locking up and shutting down. For the most part, an NBA rotation player, because that's what Moses moody was last season was a rotation player who was kind of in and out based on some of the injuries and situations that the warriors had. He played a law in that Dallas series, I recall so you're facing an MBA player in max Christie held his own and then some his defense of ability and also, I think everything I showed in the breakdown on max Christie, we saw tonight, especially defensively, his ability, and it stands out to Trevor because you watched max Christie like fight around squeeze and maneuver around screens that he watched somebody else, yeah, this is different. There was the one play Christie gets put into a pick and roll with Moses moody as the ball handler. He gets screened. He locks in and trails behind moody stays in the play and then moody tried a little dump off pass when I forget who the big was. Maybe it was Jane off. I'm not sure. It comes over to contest moody and max Christie is right there stepping into that lane to get the steel. It was just a smart play and it was exactly what we've been talking about with him defensively. So that was great to see. And the chat's talking about he's a low key player. Yeah, he's an underrated passer in playmaker as well out of ball screen. So I thought this was a great performance. I didn't fully watch the earth game, but I'm a little bothered like max, you gotta shoot a little bit more like I feel like you got a couple of looks. They passed down. And I thought he had a couple of looks that he probably should have shot, but it's okay. So second game, I think you'll just and again, tonight, defensively, he was incredible. Yeah, absolutely. "You hired everybody in anybody. Yes, because I believe at the core principle. Everybody deserves a shot. When they do with that shot, is up to them. Everybody says, oh, Demetrius really exception. You're this. Or you're that. When I look at it and I say, I just made the most of that one opportunity that somebody gave me and I just took off and ran with it. My job is to now show that show people minorities, women and anybody that wants a real shot, this is what you do with it. This is how you steward it, and this is how you make it expand. And that is the conversation that I have with people that are looking to excel or that don't believe they can do it. That's the whole reason why I start with mindset rather than metrics and performance because I want you to think that regardless of what you look like, it is all possible. That it is all possible. Now am I saying I'm the best that's ever done? No, but I am saying that everybody deserves a fair shot. A fair and intentional shuttle on getting to the top. Am I at the top far from it? But I'm going to make sure that everybody around me has that fair opportunity as long as they're willing to work hard. Hard work is a great equalizer. Yes. And to your point, I mean, when I was thinking about asking questions, you know, an interviewing you, I was going, I don't I don't want this to be a topic because of what you just said. Let's say, and you called a bunch of them on his own. So you might have a better memory than I do on it. How many guys have he's first of all, he's got some knockouts in there. Number two, he's got like 11 knockdowns, something like that over the course of his last several fights when he won the middleweight belt against corn dog dropping like four times, dropped so let's. Drop keeler coming off against quickly who we looked a legit knockout against and had him down. I mean, so I'm not sure what he's got and he's got a good personality. Like, you know, he can he can talk like he did when he came into Canelo's press conference. So, you know, to me, he deserves the opportunity. And I'd like to see you can I will give it to him. That's career mode versus job mode, which is what time do we finish? What time is lunch? If those are the high points of your day, if I come in and I'm worried about what time are we eating and then what time are we leaving? Probably in job mode. Got mood. Winds break time. When you break down, you know. How much.

The performance, the expectations of where do the people who are bringing me in C as the issues. And you only went to the people. And I think that's a really great lesson for everyone who's listening. Understanding your people, doing that due diligence, especially now that we can with social media to get a sense of who they are, what are they motivated? Are they married or not? Do they have kids? What are their passions? And then extending your hand to leadership to say, what do you think, right? As they always say, seek first is what Stephen covey says, seek first to understand, then be understood. So by asking them first, you're breaking down the barrier instead of you coming in and saying, hey, the only reason I'm here is because you all failed, which brings that up. So I thought it was really fascinating about the people. So talk about numbers. Is it when you're having those conversations when you're talking with people we're talking pre showing up to start? Is it really important for you to understand what the expectations are of ownership or leadership who are bringing you in and also your time frame for when they're expecting results or what success looks like for them? Is that really important as well? Yes, so performance. Let's taste it back though. So the reason why I focus so much on the people is because the people.
