Well, it's a bit of a tricky If you're coming from Delos Airport trying to make your way to the Beltway in the airport lanes, now you can still take the airport lanes. There's not a whole lot of traffic, so not a lot of volume at that point, but you're going to come up onto the crash scene near Spring Hill Road at speed, according to callers, and then you're going to be pushed out of the access lanes into the toll lanes. They're going to use the EZ Pass only lanes to take that traffic, so everybody that's actually traveling on the Delos toll road eastbound is going to have to go through the toll booths to get to the Beltway. Of course, the toll booths also take the EZ Pass, but you're not going to be able to use those EZ Pass only lanes right now until they can get the crash cleared. The crash involving an overturned vehicle, so it may be there a while. Now, if you're continuing on to eastbound 267, the Delos Connector Road, before 66, keep an eye out along the right side where there has also been a crash. Jack Taylor WTOP traffic. 7 News First Alert meteorologist Eileen Whalen. And this is a pretty great forecast you have for us today. Hey, not bad for this time of July. Yes, it's going be to hot, but keep in mind I know I've been talking about our average high is 90 degrees. We're going to get to around 91, but we're not going to have that heat index. It's not going to feel any hotter than the actual air temperature because humidity levels are going to be pretty low for this time of year. In fact, I'm actually seeing dew point temperatures in the upper 50s right now at Delos Airport as well as in Culpeper, otherwise dew points in the low 60s. Late last week and over the weekend, we had dew point temperatures in the low 70s, so we are going to be sunny with relatively low humidity. It'll be hot later up to 90 degrees, great but really for anything that you have planned outdoors. A perfect pool day. Just don't forget the sunglasses and the sunscreen. Don't forget to reapply the sunscreen too. Heading into the overnight hours, clear sky, 67 to 73, your range of temperatures out the door tomorrow. Tomorrow, a few degrees higher, 94 are forecast high with sunshine. Humidity still in check, but that changes Thursday. Increasing humidity. It'll be breezy with highs in the low 90s, feeling like the upper 90s and we could have an isolated storm. I think the storm chances Thursday from what I'm seeing right now, more so at night and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday just pop up showers and storms, but feels like temperatures will be approaching 100 degrees, especially heading into the weekend. So really enjoy this kind of drier summer weather hot pattern, if you will, the next few days. Looking at temperatures, guys, it's still 63 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, 73 in Springfield and 76 degrees with sunshine downtown. "Lois. Jacob Kerr's our producer. The top story we're following the first high level U.S. Russian meeting in months has occurred in India. The top diplomats from the two countries meeting on the sidelines of a group 20 meeting earlier today. Their first face to face encounter since Russia invaded Ukraine. One of the topics reportedly discussed between Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov was American Paul Whelan, who continues to be detained in Russia. The reality of the Paul Whelan cases, he's the highest profile chip, if you will, not to diminish his value as a human being, but that's just how the Russian government thinks of him. They think of him as simply a person that they can use for leverage. And they're going to bring it up the U.S. every time they get an opportunity, but Russia is going to continue to use that. I'm told to try to extract something else from the U.S.. National security correspondent JJ green on Skype. Secretary blinken reminded Lavrov that the U.S. had put a proposal on the table for Whelan's release, and he urged him to accept it. "Tell us, tell us what's been going on here with the TSA and x-ray machines. Well, that's why I added this story to the mix here. It's kind of surprising. This comes from The Washington Post and the headline says TSA wants you to stop putting your pets through the x-ray machine. And of course, you just got to shake your head and think people actually do that. Not only that, TSA went so far as to do a demonstration for the press at Delos airport in suburban Washington, D.C. to show the proper way to screen their pooch. They have little Pablo that chihuahua, age 12, he does look like he's showing his age and they show him being walked through the metal detector by his owner who is 6 years old, pretty funny that dog is older than the girl who's giving the demonstration here. But apparently the root of the problem is that people like putting their pooches in various carry on bags, and then they toss those that carry your bags or cases on the belt and it goes through the machine and basically TSA is trying to get the word out. Hey, you know, animal or person should be exposed to extra x-rays that they don't need. So treat those animals as if they were a baby in a stroller or sensitive film in a camera and walk them through the metal detector. Now they did say that if you're an animal wearing some type of coat, then they might coat or sweater. They might subject the pet to a pat down, but that disrobing the animal is not necessary. That's the part where I start laughing. Oh, it wouldn't be a pat down. It would be a pet down. There you go. Okay, but okay, this is another one of those. Are you kidding me? But then I heard of people years ago that had babies carry baskets and they put them through the x-ray machine. And unless the TSA person is there to say, oh, no, no, no, no, no, don't do that. You. Yeah, well, it seems like a common sense. Well, but let's face it, common sense is variable. Not common. Not common. All right, quickly one more story before we move on with Dan and this is from Fox business JetBlue and spirit insist merger won't lead to higher airline fares as DoJ circles. So we've talked about the JetBlue spirit. Merger before the Justice Department, antitrust division hasn't yet made a decision. On whether or not to block this merger or let it proceed. But the airlines, at least the CEOs are saying that this would lead to good results. What do you expect them to say? They say it would lead to lower prices. Hayes the CEO of JetBlue said that fares are a function of capacity, the article says in spirit, flights would adopt JetBlue seat configuration. That would save customers money because the planes would spend more time in the air and less time on the ground. Meanwhile, Christie the CEO of spirit also had some positive things to say about the merger. But I think the article says that the DoJ has a week left, I guess, before they have to decide whether or not they're going to take action to oppose this or not. So it sounds like it's down to the wire. Yeah, and of course, when I read the headline that said, oh no, prices won't go up. My first reaction was, oh, sure. It's easy for executives to claim this prior to the merger. I think one thing people should understand is that often, about 40% of mergers I read, the executives are given additional bonuses. I mean, literally millions of dollars to complete the merger. So I wouldn't say that they are fudging or saying anything to make that merger complete, but many of them have huge financial incentives to make it complete. So we will see what happens. I just saw a press release today that said spirit will begin serving San Jose. I guess that'll be interesting to see I'm hoping I will continue to have other good choices, but at least there will now be a new low cost choice coming to you at San Jose. Now, I have a very unusual reason to hope that this merger doesn't go through. And if I can share it with you. Sure, please. So when we first started doing our research on the fuel efficiency of U.S. airlines, this goes back to 2010. There were 15 airlines that we included in our ranking. And we developed this statistical approach to kind of benchmark fuel efficiency, which was important because we needed to find a way to equitably compare southwest to continental. Those are very different airlines. Over time, as there have been more mergers and consolidations, the number of airlines has dropped. And it's now at the point where I think the last time we did the study was either 11 or 12 airlines and our models started to lose statistical significance. Because we were losing in essence, the data we needed to do the regression properly. So I would guess if this merger goes through the model will completely fall apart, we'll no longer be able to release the study. So fingers crossed as a geek, I hope it doesn't go through. All right.
