"We'll talk a little jets with counter Hughes. S O give you a little bit of a football fix. We kick off this hour talking about a game that got started yesterday. Maggie when we were on the airwaves, and it was a Graham start what four time this year that he's faced the Miami Marlins, a Morland team that went out there. And added and subtracted right around the four o'clock MLB trade deadline and for Jake Now, one inning gets away from wasn't good in that inning. The Mets don't pick him up offensively, They lose the game 53, and then you get the conversation and listen. He can, just as I was critical of coal for not delivering. No diagram reigning two time Cy Young Award winner You can't really rip Jacob deGrom a new one here on this Tuesday morning. I mean, it is it is what it is. You like the offense to be able to pick him up a little bit. No, He's pitched brilliantly, at times where there's not been any offense, no defense behind them where they've let him down and pitching to and he's been completely and utterly dominant. You know, yesterday just wasn't one of those days. Offensively, They've got to do a lot better than they did yesterday afternoon, and it's getting it's getting late here. The time is running out, I think when Roll Hostel manager is saying That after the game, What are you saying is true. It is absolutely true. Similar messaging where he talked about last week. Hopefully this will be a turning point for us will be rock bottom. They have the doubleheader victory on Friday night against the Yankees, and then they go out there lose the next three games and different styles and fashion over the weekend against the Yankees, and then they have a makeup game Monday against the Marlins. And they're not able to bounce back offensively and, yeah, this is a bad baseball team right now. I don't know You can't trust the bullpen. The offense has been way too inconsistent. They don't hit with runners in scoring position. Defense has been an issue. They went out there and made I would say secondary and tertiary moves at the MLB trade deadline, bringing in You know Torino's a catcher, bringing in Todd Frazier at a little infield depth. You want talk about leadership with Frasier as well, No, added a reliever from the Orioles. But all in all right now to the Mets look like they're a team that's going to catch fire and get themselves to the post season. The National League. No, there's nothing that would lead you to believe that they're about to turn a corner. No, I mean, they've lost four in a row, and they just lost their ace on the mound Who turn into you know? Ah, very odd inning where you know, four runs score. You're just not used to seeing it with Jacob to ground, but I'm not going to get on him because there's been so many times where he has been. The bright spot in the rest of the team has let him down. So it's really difficult to say, pointed Jacob to Graham and say to him like you know them. You know, we're we're expecting more from you. The guys over delivered. On every single thing that he's done in a Mets uniform, and so you can't really get Ana. But then I mean, the only thing that makes me think that the Mets could go on a run here is basically because I saw it in 2015. The problem is, is that that this trade deadline doesn't resemble that one even a little bit Now they made some moves that quite frankly you had to make, but they were in the margins mean you needed another catcher Ali Sanchez. Cannot be catching this staff right now is too young and inexperienced. It looks like Tomas Nieto is not coming back anytime soon. They needed someone to back up Wilson Ramos. I mean, Torino's is not going to give you much of the plate. The guy was catching in Game seven of the World Series last year. He has experience you think he could pick up things quickly, is a veteran guy in his thirties. So you have to believe that that's a good move, at least to settle that position because Such as has not been Ali Sanchez, that is has not been good, the studio so that part of it, I like the fact that they did trade for reliever. When you get when you're talking about Miguel Castro. Okay, this guy who's you know, controllable, You know, he's been OK. You know, for the Orioles, whatever. That's fine. You need a relief pitcher, But that's a lot of just blatant necessity. We have Della Betances and Steven Matz both go on the I'll. Yeah. You need a little bit of help. The one thing about Frasier. This is what I was surprised about with Frasier. Frasier at this point is a clubhouse guy right? And I know he's a right handed bat. I know the Mets are lefty heavy, and I know they could use a little bit of help, you know, hitting off a lefty pitching and stuff like that. But Todd Frazier's not having a great season. Quite frankly, so it's not like he's ripping the cover off the ball in Texas, and it's been like Wow, let's get Todd back. Todd Frazier to me is a guy who you bringing into a club house at this time because you need to rally the troops a little bit. And that to me is like Is that what the Mets need? Is there? Nobody in the clubhouse now who can fill that role? Are they that down and out Desperate are they that defeated Have they felt like the season is clearly can't be going the way they expected it to go. But are they looking for something external to try to get them going in the last month of the year? Because if so, then that's disappointing because we talked and talked and talked about this young core and how they're so. You know, this is the core for the for the Mets moving forward and how they have a great clubhouse, and they all right. Suspicious is gone. You can't blame anything on him. You got the veteran and Robinson Cano. You've got your ace. I know Jacob deGrom's not a vocal leader, but he still wants someone who commands the room. You have Alonso. I know is a down here, but leadership is about way more than just you being able to be vocal. When you're doing well, you know, that's it's about more than that. If you're really going to be a leader, Michael Conforto should be a leader on this team. They're guys who should be able to rally this team. Do they really need Todd Frazier to come in with a salt shaker pepper grinder, a thumbs down or whatever it is to get this team. So like, you know, rally here. That means if that's what that move more than J. D. Davis hurting his hip. I mean, it's a isn't it just a bruise? He got hit by the 100 Mile an hour fastball, right? I get it. But just in case to give yourself a guy they're familiar with. You mentioned leadership veteran guys. Not particularly good offensively this year. You're not looking rather see the menace. I'd rather see him in is a third because most of this season is over. And I kind of feel like maybe on the last Metsmanager York to get the memo that it is probably over for the Mets this year, and that they would be lucky to make the playoffs and maybe we shouldn't even be expected them to make any noise when they get their God message received. I'm sorry I was the last person in New York to get that message. But at this point, then it's about you know, I want to see the guys who have started to have breakout seasons. I want to see more of them I wanted, But here's the problem with that. The general manager's not thinking that way. I saw a conversation we had a week ago about Brody van wagon in Sienna Tea leaves. He is the understanding. I mean, you would have to believe that he believes the clock is ticking with Steve Columbine. This team in a reported $2.35 billion, or that was the high water mark of the offer. That deal has yet to be signed, and he has yet to be approved by Major League Baseball. But For all intensive purposes. If everything goes cleanly here, moving forward, he's going to be the new owner, and then Brody will be out. That's the issue I talked about last week with Brody at the MLB trade deadline as we're talking with Andy Martino yesterday said Nothing was cooking with the Mets. Well, Mets made a lot of secondary and tertiary moves, nothing of great significance to add a little bit more depth to this team..

"Frasier. Here's a throw home and it's gonna be In time to Yankee runners caught at home plate in the same inning. How do ya like that? So gardener doubles off the base of the monument Park wall on the Yankees can score the run. There was a replay challenge by the Yankees seeing it perhaps Frazier's foot beat the tag, but the call was upheld Frasier out at the plate and remained one. Nothing those of your defensive plays of the game brought to you by the Army's New York City recruiting battalion. Good relays all around from Hamilton and Rosario to get Fraser at home plate there. Meanwhile, Jay Happ just dealing right along UUP, a single, The third of Paris singles in the faith of double play Ball helped him out of that situation, and he did not allow a runner to reach second base after seven innings. He was a little under 90 pitches. He came out in the eighth inning to face Robinson Cano and got a ground ball. This is after the Yankees had left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning. And failed to stretch out thoroughly Deejay LeMay use up after a Siri's of walks. Three of them by Brad Brock loaded the bases. LeMay, you grounded out, and the Yankees clung to that one. Nothing lead, So the lefty Robinson Cano up to start the eighth happy faces him and get him to bounce out to second base. Next batter was Wilson Ramos and Adam Ottavino came into the pen. From the pen to Ah, relieve happy as we said earlier 90 pitches most he's thrown in about 11 months. It was seven or third, three hits, no walks and five strikeouts in position for the win. That is until Ottavino those third pitch to Wilson Ramos. The Tuo swung on and drilled too deep left field down the line, and it is home run hit at the foul pole. So Wilson Ramos homers Ottavino, the first Manny face right down the left heel on kissing the left field poll, and the ball game is tied at one another big homerun allowed by Yankees reliever this week. This one didn't lose the game. It did tie it 11 in the eighth. Now the Yankees went from Ottavino two rollers. Chapman, who give up the game winning homer last night. In the second game to Ahmet Rosario. He ended up hitting a batter but worked a scoreless ninth inning all to the bottom of the night that the Yankees didn't score. We'd have seen extra innings at Yankee Stadium, the new rules for the first time this year. Della Betances was in. He was the seventh Yankee pitcher into the ballgame. Robert Zelman pitched the first four and then it was Matt's Hughes, Brock, Familia, Wilson and Betances. But dances walked Clint Frazier to start the ninth inning and then Brett Gardner struck down Jordy Mercer's singled sharply to write, sending Fraser all the way to 3rd, 1st and 3rd with one out. Erik Kratz was the batter. He didn't need to swing the bat to get the run home. 01. There's a wild pitch on a bun attempt, scoring his Fraser Bowl game over Yankees win. Ah, Yankees when They break their seven game losing streak. Was it odd? Yes. Is this year? Odd? Yes. That's all folks. Yankees beat the Mets by the final of 2 to 1. That is, you're Wendy's Yankees turning point in the game tune into our flagship station W. Fe and tomorrow between 10 and 11 a.m. to identify the Windies turning point, you'll have a chance to win a Wendy's gift card. It's brought to, of course by Wendy's official hamburger sponsor of the New York Yankees. Jay Happ was outstanding. As you said earlier, entered the ballgame with 6.39 E R. A Seven of the third scoreless with a bullpen with a doubleheader looming again tomorrow they needed on Ly to use Ottavino and Chapman of those two guys work back to back. So I'm assuming unavailable for both games tomorrow, we'll see what moves they make to get a starter here anyway. Hap with this performance after everything he's been through, in the comments that were made back and forth between him and Brian Cashman, Chap with a strong performance. Today You're Mike's amazing player of the game presented by the Yankees official Mayonnaise Mike's amaze email made locally by Shuffler Foods from one chef to another..

"Center. When I was a wild one. Dellenbach dances with a wild pitch and the Yankees walk off with a 2 to 1 victory to end a seven game losing streak. This is the sun Wave gas and power Yankees postgame show. I'm Sweeny Murti. It didn't necessarily drop the way the Yankees would've liked, especially after J Haps 73rd scoreless, but they do end up with win. And that'll make them feel good for a little while heading into tomorrow's doubleheader. Wilson Ramos took Adam Ottavino deepens. The Yankee bullpen continues tohave a really just atrocious week, giving up home runs in big spots and blowing leads and, Ah, the game was tied in the eighth inning on that the Yankees batting last this time are able to take advantage. Della Betances thief former Yankee walked the leadoff batter in the bottom of the night. And he came around to score in a wild pitch the Yankees with ah, kind of an unusual to tow one walk off victory to Ah, to take this one in a game that was supposed to be delayed by rain, perhaps even in peril. It was played under By the end sunny skies at Yankee Stadium. Jay Happ was brilliant and hadn't pitched for awhile and had had some questions about how the Yankees were using him in regards to his contract situation and the performance bonuses that he was trying to accrue and really just thie. Ah, well for the vesting option. And the idea that he was being passed over while he hadn't pitched well this year, and he pitched brilliant today with a little chip on his shoulder. Yeah, probably. And maybe that work to his advantage seven or third three hits. He did not walk a batter, and he struck out five but once again, as we saw earlier this week when Chad Green gave up the home run in Atlanta, relieving Masahiro Tanaka when Chad Green gave up a couple of more yesterday. And when the roll is Chapman give up one in the second game of the doubleheader again today. Adam Ottavino gave up a homer in a one run game tied the game up for the Mets in the eighth inning, and the Yankees were left to scratch their heads as to what to do with the bullpen that they rely on very heavily invested in very heavily every game. Maybe with the exception of a game, Garrett Cole pitches Is built with the idea that you can get to your relievers and not just the closer, as was the case, you know, maybe 10 15 years ago, you get to your relievers, and this week the relievers have been very bad. Has some of that been due to their lack of activity. Perhaps, but even Adam Ottavino said yesterday not an excuse. And I hope he says the same thing today. Not an excuse, uh they need to perform. And you can question whether or not Aaron Boots should have taken out. J. AP But if you look at the 90 pitches, he threw its the most He's thrown in any game since last September, and this is the same. J. Apple is pitching to a 6.39 E R a heading into this game, had not pitched in two weeks and had given up given 34 home runs a year ago. And for his first three starts this year. I was pitching in a one Nothing game. And once again, the bullpen is what this Yankee teams have built around. Even with a fully healthy offense. They like to hand leads over to their bullpen, regardless of starting pitchers, regardless of who the starting pitcher is, and this week, the bullpen has faltered every single time. This time, the Yankees were lucky enough to come in with the wind because they get to bat last. We didn't see extra innings play out, but The Yankees did come away with a 2 to 1 win.

"Swung on it in the year to right center deep and that ball is going to be gone into the bullpen. Dominic Smith just hit the ball into the Yankee bullpen and right center and the Mets have come all the way back. 12 is long, deep down the left field line headed toward the wall, and it is off the very top of the wall. He just missed the home run. Marisnick goes to second. Maybe it was a home run. He's rounding the bases, and the Yankees aren't stopping him. So Marist tickets one Maybe it hit the front seat bounced out. Yeah, I hit the seats and bounced onto the field so hard to see. But it was a home reformers. Nick back to back with Dominic Smith. Three home runs in a space of five batters, a five run inning for the Mets, and they took the 64 lead Those air your drives of the game there brought to you by your tri state Audi dealers. Don't let someone else drive off the Audi model. You've always wanted busy your tri state Audi dealer to get behind the wheel of yours today. 6 to 4 is to score at that point, and Della Betances and Edwin Diaz has locked it down for the Mets. Betances hit a batter and walked about her with two outs but then got Gary Sanchez to pop out Sanchez and struck out with the bases loaded in the fourth inning, so not a good date for him. In the ninth and windy, has struck out the side 123 and held on for the 6 to 4 win over the Yankees in Game number one off this day night doubleheader. We'll get you some comments from the yankeesclubhouse. And get you set for game number two shortly. But before we did that, I want to take a moment to let you hear some of the emotion in the voices of Yankees players and coaches as they spoke before today's game. Remember, the Yankees were off yesterday, a CZ Everything was happening they did play on Wednesday night in Atlanta is everything was starting a CZ. Everything was just kind of starting in the sports world. But the Yankees made their thoughts known, and here are two very important voices for you to hear. This is Giancarlo Stanton and hitting coach Marcus Tim's two men expressing Really Their thoughts on what's happening in this world is black men in this country as athletes with a voice, Uh, important beauty here. This from Stanton and Tim's Yeah, it's been tough. It's been, uh Uh, you see a time and time again and you? You wonder when is it going to stop? When is it? Um, whenever people finally gonna listen when you're goingto use Uh, I understand that, um, you can help in amount of what color you are, and that, um It's It's not. It's not political. It's not for for anything but reality. I mean, this is this is this is the life we lived in. This is the life that, um A lot of a lot of people in the America struggle to to bring up in and though um, you know, we're in the big leagues and everyone thinks ever, you know were robots and all is is fine and dandy. We know we know the road that it took to get here and we know Um, from our peers and from from life experiences the difficulties on every step to get to where we are now, so it's not just forget Love. Some forget of of of that road. It's not a time to just shut up and swing. Shut up in dribble this. This isn't that time. This is time to to. Take reality for what it is and start helping to make it down change because this is unacceptable. What's been going on? And and It hurts, man. I mean, the the The the conversations. Put my mom with my grandma the hearing their stories hearing what they had to go through and then seeing the similarities. Of what's going on now is just, uh hurt. It's it's It's unacceptable and it needs to be changed. You know, like he said, I have to to Africa. American kids, Boys, boys. I mean, I have five kids, but I have two boys and I have to continue to explain what's going on and it's it's hard and it hurts. But I have to be there for them, like my family members were there for me and Yeah. I mean, we're tired means tears is this pain and we're tired of it, And we just want to be hurt. Like I said, like we dont want money was just one hears. I'm just listen to us because they continue to keep happening over and over and over again, me being in Atlanta early in the week and having to explain to my son again what's going on out in the world and he shouldn't be terrified. To be a napkin, American young black boy and dealing with this. It's really hard. 23 year old daughter went to school in Alabama and haven't heard a drive from Alabama back to Columbus, Ohio, where she lives with her mom and and not giving asleep because she's terrified of what might happen or It's been hard for a lot of people and as you can see in baseball, basketball, football hockey guys are tired. We're losing sleep. Her family members aren't sleeping. And we just want to be hurt on. I think we just got to keep having those conversations and hopefully we can get to where we need to go. It's not gonna happen overnight, but the conversation conversation's going to continue to happen. I think first you need to, um Take a look at yourself. Take a look. A look yourself in the mirror and and you know, right from wrong. You can't run from yourself. You can't run from from what you see you can. You can look the other way you can. You can try toe not acknowledge it, but but you've seen it. You know what's going on, and it's look yourself in the mirror, man. I mean, check out, check out what's happening, and and I've seen a lot of people say, I don't I don't want to watch those videos. I don't want to watch. Um people gettin shot or people George Floyd there for over eight minutes, But you do need to watch that you do need to Watch every second.

Siri's We'll see if the weather cooperates and the Yankees and Mets Khun get in. Tomorrow's game. And then there's two scheduled for Sunday as well. When you're built around your bullpen, you can't afford to have your bullpen blow games. The Yankees are just that Chad Green is in a disastrous stretch right now. The home run he gave up to Freddie Freeman the other night in Atlanta. Okay, you could chalk that up but three home runs in the sixth inning, including a game tying three run homer by Pete Alonso in the sixth. And then back to back shots. A couple of batters later that gave the Mets the final margin of victory. The Mets bullpen is the one that held this one down Della Betances. "Little build with technical issue this morning, So apologize about that. We think we're shipshape moving forward here and apologize to Ray. We went Teo, You want to chime back? You're more than welcome. 877337 66 66. Let's head up, Tio. My neck of the woods, Stamford, Connecticut. Beautiful Stanford. It's been It's the fan. What's going on, Ben? Hey, guys, How you doing? Great show. So obviously frustrated with last night's performance for 15 with runners in scoring position, you know we're dead last with runners in scoring position. But you guys talk about you know how bad the Mets are. We actually are the best in baseball. We have the best batting average per team are best on base percentage. Um, we have the number one hits per game. But this been there. The O P s. I got this from Tim Britain this morning. This is the best o PS in Metz franchise history. They say it runs in. Yes from bank. They're changing the approach approach. When runners are in scoring position, it is why they're tight. I mean, that's the other way to put it. I mean, when they feel the pressure that They understand They're not hitting with runners in scoring position. One point of time they're hit 1 72 rollers talks about being You know, maybe you're a little extra jumpy. You're looking to try and do something a little bit more. You realize the team struggles, whatever it might be. It's all it's all based on individuals as well. I mean, not not every single individuals, every single batter has the exact same approach. So Yeah, it's it's really overtaken the team, so yeah, you could terms of, you know, I don't know. I think I think they're tight. I don't know if it's me. You wanted to find his mental toughness or you want to define it as something that's kind of It's overtaken the team. It's been a story in the 1st 28 games or last six. They can't hit with runners in scoring position, but there, but they're a good hitting team. That's that's what I know. That's what makes it so frustrating. But how many rooms do you have your 12 and 16 team? That's what the Mets are. You could look at the stats and say, Okay, well, great to get guys on base. It doesn't mean anything if you don't score runs Sure over 12 16 right. We've had seven games where the difference has been either one or two run right? If we could have had if we hit that just an average level with runners in scoring position, we probably being 18 and nine right now. Listen, we could say the same thing about about you know if Edward Diaz had given up 15 home runs in the ninth innings last year, could say the same things if they had just sort some some runs for the Graham and his, you know, first Cy Young season. There's always those things bends we can point to, and I think the frustration is that the at bats are actually good, except when the runners in scoring position and all of a sudden Approach changes swinging at everything. And you know you have two rookie pitchers shut you out last night, you know, and to work E pictures. Excuse me started both games. Shut you out in the first one hour rain delay. The guy comes back in How How often does that ever happen in Major league baseball These days? We get an hour rain delay and the team actually throws the starting pitcher back in there. Doesn't happen. Appreciate your call that gotta talk about Seth Luego, but first Ray in water Berries back. Hey, Ray, how are you? Hi, guys. Thanks for give me another shot. Now that's really impatient. Starting from the announcement that the ground wasn't pitching one of those double header games plus Ah, not pitching against the Yankees. I mean, it took the air out of the honor their sales, you know, just Got off to a bad start. And then you're letting Sanchez back when you have backup catchers. You know, you got two extra backup catchers with the expanded roster for the doubleheader. He's up with the bases loaded. You gotta strike even and shit early when you're not scoring runs, you know, And then he let Luke go. You pull the master after three innings given another inning. You know he's failing along, you know. That's not really stretching them out. You know? Well, they only had him they only wanted to use him for three innings. That's really what should have been the minds that they didn't want tohave him go up down up down more than three times when that is not part of his repertoire of what he's been used to doing as a reliever. So instead of what the Mets should have really done Instead of guesstimating that it would take 52 55 pitches to go through three innings. What they should have done is basically said we have luego for three innings. They set the expectations for people when they said 50 to 60. So then he gets pulled with that 39 the guys cruising. You're wondering Well, what's going on here? Turns out that was never gonna happen. You know? Luego said afterwards that he was fine with it. He understood it. And you could almost tell most of the post game that RoHaas He seemed almost anguished by it like, even if he knew he obviously understands what he had in Luego and how he was going in that, you know, Luego most likely could very easily handled another inning of work easily could've handled another inning. But This was pre determined and it goes to the heart of the matter of whether or not this is the best role for luego. If he's going to be on such tight restrictions, and we don't know the next start feel if the leash will be longer. But it was a curious decision this late in the season. Teo say that he's going to go with starting rotation is a desperate decision. We know that I mean they were desperate. They had nowhere else to turn. So that's why they decided to finally give in to Lugo's requested finally go back into the starting rotation. Now, the question is, how do you? How do you judge the innings? Where do you think you're going to get the best use, even though Luego wants to be there? And you don't have a lot of other viable options to be in that starting rotation. Where do you view? Lugo's innings is being more valuable? Manning the Magi the three innings that he got last night or luego being available, You know, three games or three games over a course of Ah, six or seven game period where maybe you can use him six innings during the course of those three games. I mean, that's something where the Mets obviously felt like they were going to be. They needed him. Maurin that starting rotation, you're right. The curious nature and reeking of desperation is to do it at this stage when they could have done it earlier, when they could have maybe given into his request on the course of the offseason, instead of signing both Porcello Wacha and mates that luego a starter and then maybe added another bullpen arm or two outside of Della Betances. In the off season to try and strengthen that weakness and make great use of what I believe is the second best pitcher on that met team in luego and putting him into the rotation so that I don't know what's he going to be available next time you want to say Okay, Well, he's available for four innings or 70 pitches or 65. Whatever. I mean, what are we going to get from Seth? Luego. Next go around, But, yeah. It was, Yeah, That's where the Mets get themselves into trouble instead, guesstimating the amount of pitches that Lugo's gonna need to get through three innings..

"B. Davis is getting a couple of hits Rock No suddenly Hot. Yeah, Robbie Cano looks like he's on the Yankees, circa 2009 and they find a way to blow in 8 to 2 lead and attend the sixth lead. We'll tell you right now that game Friday night. I put it on the manager. He left first way left the tent city game too long and it and in the biggest play of that game Friday night that wild pitch ball four to Freddie Freeman, I am sitting there. They got second and third and I'm saying Just freakin walk. Freddie Freeman. Just walk him. I don't care. You putting the go ahead, run on, just walked the guy and he walks him anyway. And then he throws a wild pitch and even all you probably was out at the plate. That's another story. What was that? You know what? You know what was that? I agree with you that Della Betances needs to be out of this game. You got to be out of this game. At least one debt. When Dansby Swanson gets the R b, I single. But here's why, even though I disagreed with some of the things roll hostage, I don't put it on the manager Seth Lubell came in and stunk. They start They were going to lose that game. Either way, I told my wife I want to tell you how good you look. So bases loaded two out and Travis free, condone ozone. So I turned to my wife and I said she's watching a game. I said I would. Rather there is not a guy in baseball that I would rather not see at the plate right now. They're travisano. I would've rather seen arid judge at that point in Travis, I swear to God. You need to know you knew this guy He had already had a big night already. You knew this guy was getting a big hit their mark? No question. There was never a doubt if you could. I was J. J and I we're texting about this. If you could live bet that ad that you would have put every dime I had on the fact that Travis d'Arnaud was going out with a big hit question. But that was that game was 2019 all over again. Every aspect of it, you could change the name's a little bit. Dead Rick Porcello Stone. How many times you gonna put the leadoff man on with your pitch walks by the way, Thanks. He stinks, but that that set the tone for everything because they were lifeless. On Saturday. They were lifeless on Sunday and then Johannes said, I'm out here on boy which set up and you know you and I said there's probably think was all fair before the show, boy, can't you see a disastrous weekend so sweet? We saw a disastrous weekend. I don't think we envisioned that being this putrid from blowing a huge lead on Friday assessment is picking up his ball and going home. No doubt. No doubt about it. That's unbelievable on hearing it in a 60 game season that we hope is going to get completed. We have now play 10 games, and his team is in trouble there. Trouble that three and seven broader in trouble. I look that could turn it around is still 50 game. Sure, but you can't feel too good about it. And I'll tell you right, I'll tell you right now, if this season turns out to be one, where, with 16 teams, they some out, don't make the playoffs, okay? Looking game to go right to the second game of the year and one out one strike away from winning two in a row Word a bait, where they scored three runs against the Braves. And Diaz gives up that home run towards Zuna. And things have only one those two games in Boston. Things have really gone downhill since then. You know why you're right when you look at it, But why? I think Friday is going to be the one I would put ahead of Saturday, the Friday game from this Friday to the original Saturday Because look when they blew that Saturday game, they were lifeless the next day, no doubt, right, But then, like you mentioned, they go up the boss and they wouldn't couple of games. Okay? All's right with the world. Their response over the weekend to a brutal loss was Joe two for 25 with runners in scoring position Unbelievable. And in yesterday's game, Pyle, right, who's not a major leaguer right now is begging the Mets to score runs. He's walking the leadoff guy in the game. He's walking four guys in three and 1/3 innings. He's given up five hits. Have you ever seen a starting pitching line off three and 1/3 5 hits for walks and zero runs? Unbelievable. He put nine guys on base in three and 1/3 innings, and this offense couldn't do anything. So the fact that their response to that brutal loss Friday was two for 25 with runners in scoring position. That to me is far worse than everything that happened after their initial Saturday lost, But the real reason for concern is look, I think they'll eventually start hitting. Okay. I think they're better than that. But they're just not that good at anything. Their starting pitching isn't that good bullpens? Just his bad faces defensively. Terrible, terrible defence. No doubt about it. Just not good at anything, right? No, no, no. 100%. And I'd say so many things. You know, Alonzo just totally pressing at the plate. I mean, it's you know, it's brutal Watch. I mean, the guy you couldn't be pressing any more than a lot of those present. No, no doubt that one for a game of one on one in Boston, he stuff nothing else beside that. You know, obviously suspicious, wasn't it at all. McNeil yesterday gets three. It's comes up in a big spot strikes out OK, which is kind of the way it's you know, it's kind of been. I mean, no matter no matter what happens, it's not happening to me. No matter what happens, it's not happening. You nailed it. You and it's tough to pick on McNeil because he went three for five, but Jeff McNeil's two outs yesterday both occurred with, like first and second and either one out or nobody out or two outs. I think in the time we came up in the film plays, the sure Yeah, big spots we see it at all over the place. It's It's horrific and looking at this season, not having you NSS Pittis should not be a back breaker that allows an opportunity for Don Smith. Definitely not. Look, Brandon. I was listening a little bit too, Bt and Tiki Brandon said Something I was thinking about yesterday morning. I totally agree with him. He was spot on about something and you may not agree with him. You may not agree with me. What I would do it. I think this defense is so bad that I want to just give Billy Hamilton centerfield glove and say You're playing center field everyday. Let Brandon Nimmo play Corner outfield DHD 80 Davis. I can't watch him in the outfield anymore, Guys. They're a little bit. Dom Smith. Maybe Pete Alonso a few days but improve this defense. I know Billy can't hit. Okay, I trust me. I get it. The guy can't Eddie can't get on basically do two things. Well, he can run. And you could play defense. But you know what, Joe? They don't have either. So it would be nice to have a competent globe out there, and I would do it for the time being. I have your right. And I have sick of seeing bulls hit outfielders gloves, was it? What was it The Saturday Night game? The ball that could photo She s right. Yeah, you got to catch that ball. Get to the wall and catch it. I mean, what would was at the game Walk a pitch was because it's now It's a little like Gloria's together. Yeah, I think it was Saturday. I think it was the Saturday game. I think you're right. Yeah, the one in right field when it would have been a nice catch. But you know, one of you catch that in Major league, right, fielding and make the play. Not Nelson Cruz out there. Make the catch. Right, right. That's the problem. They're not good. Defensively. Terrible. They're terrible defensively. So look, you Ennis. Being gone creates opportunities. It creates opportunities for Tom Smith. It creates opportunities to D. H. J. D..

"An example of it. Let me use the Yankee game. Let's go to the Yankee game. Okay. The Yankees air up by a score of 3 to 1 very close game reasonably close game. Aaron Boone allows Jordan Montgomery to begin the sixth inning. Why not? Jordan's been pitching really well. Gives up a leadoff wall keeps him in the game gets a big double play against Rafael Devers gives up a hit to Xander Bogaerts. Now, Aaron Boone says to himself. You know what? I think I should get him out of the game. Put two guys on base for the last three batters he's faced. Forget the pitch count, but it is his first start of the season. Is a big spot guy coming up's real dangerous. You may have heard of them. Christian Vazquez, who just did everything you wanted to against the Mets. Aaron Boone with a short handed bullpen. Okay, there's no Aroldis Chapman. There's no Tommy Kane Lee. So he's gotta be open, which is still good by the way, but doesn't have the amount of horses he'd normally have. In the sixth inning of the game with the tying run at the plate, he decides to go to Chad Green. He didn't go to Jonathan Holder thinking. I've gotta save Chad Green and Adam Ottavino exact written for later in the game, he went to one of his best relievers. I still think Chad is one of his best relievers, despite the up and down nature of a year ago. And Chad Green in my opinion. Got the biggest out of the game for the New York Yankees last night. Would you agree with that 3 to 1 game now? Eventually, the Yankees broke it open with the two runs in the eighth inning, the home run by Gardner. But in that moment Tying run at the plate sixth inning and I know that's not an obvious one because you don't know the Yankees going to break it Open. It's not bases loaded. One out. I get it, but that wass The biggest out of the game. And you used him right there because sometimes in the ninth inning, it's not the biggest outs of the game. He was Jonathan Holder in the ninth inning because the Yankees had broken the game open. My long winded point is I don't love defined roles because you don't know when the biggest out of the game is going to be. So the idea of saving your best reliever for a certain moment because that's their role there the eighth inning guy when who knows what the eighth and he's going to look like you may have already blown the lead by them. So I'm not getting on RoHaas for not defining roles. He hasn't yet He will, because personally, I don't love defining roles. But in last night's case, here's the problem with last night. Here's the problem with putting this on the manager last night. And I love to put stuff on the manager. I did a lot for Mickey Callaway last year. I've done it a little bit with RoHaas this year. The problem is everybody failed last night. Everybody. Delon Betances failed, said Luego failed two degrees Paul Seewald failed Chasen Shreve man and overly fail, but he did give up a run, and he could walk the first guy he faced in the sixth inning. So Last night was one of those nights in which we can kind of maneuver everything around and say, Well, you should have gone to this guy. Then Seth Luego one batter earlier. These guys failed. They didn't get the job done. But what I liked and I know the Yankees and Mets are completely different in terms of guys you could trust out of the bullpen. But what I like and I think this describes in a way. My theory is a baseball fan and how I would use my bullpen. And I get it's easier to do with Boone. He's got more arms Is that if you watch the Yankee game last night Look, the biggest out of the game. Probably in retrospect, was the fourth inning, but Jordan Montgomery's on the mound as Faras when you'd use bullpen arms, the biggest out of the Yankee Red Sox game last night, was in the sixth inning. Was when Vazquez came up is the tying run. And we didn't see Aaron Boone mess around. We saw him go to one of his better relievers. And that's what I would do that That's that's why defining guys by innings is not to me It's not the best course of action. Rickson, Tampa Herrick. Evan Here, a reliever will have defining role They can all blow games at any moment. That's very true. Well, they don't have first pick Susan. Unbelievable. He really belt it out that national anthem. I didn't expect that It was great. Yeah, you did a hell of a job, No doubt. They did a great job. You know, I was a Yankees fan. I I enjoy your podcast. When your When your mets lose. I will listen to it all the time, And you could have basically taking your podcast last night and played it and put the microphone this morning and and just let it go, because basically what you said last night you covered this morning, and it's really very funny to the frustration that cos that's hilarious. I'm gonna glad you're getting a chuckle. Reckon glad you're glad you're laughing. Go ahead and tell a potential is 100 team now. And I know you guys covered Yanks, too. So when when? When we were crying out last year about why did he throw the curveball every single time? Why not throwing his fastball this that and now you're saying The same thing. It's like, you know, he has a talent for for certain pitches yet Hill and I'll just get your butt Rick. When Rick Here's the little Here's the thing about down in Matanzas Dalembert chances was with the New York Yankees for eight years. And, of course, the things that would always jump out at you about downtown that would drive you nuts on the negative side is how he could lose the strike zone out of absolute nowhere. Now we couldn't hold base runners on. Okay, Those are the two things that would jump out at you. But for five of the years he was with the New York Yankees, specifically between 14 and 18. He was an all star pitcher. I mean, you talk about Effective. Delon Betances was a tremendous New York Yankee. And I'm not sure you know when the years go by how we're goingto talk about Ellen how Yankee fans are going to discuss his legacy with the New York Yankees. And the fact that they didn't win a championship and the fact that he wasn't like a lot of his dominance was on teams that didn't win in 14 and 15 17. He was a part of What we know about the inconsistencies that he had. But Della Batanes has made the All Star Game as an eighth inning guy. Four times. So the criticisms of down while they were fair. Don't get me wrong Losing the strike zone not being able to hold guys on the good far outweigh the 44 outweigh the negative. I'm sorry. And I think the other thing that was unfair to down is that the rare times He got too close games. I think at the end of 16 at the end of 17 and he struggled, closing games. A lot of it was because it was in September. We have just thrown, you know 80 innings in a full season. And so I thought he unfairly got Diagnosed as a guy that can't close. I don't think that was the case. Just watching the Yankees and watching them all the time. We have to look specifically at when he got those save opportunities. But right now at 32 years old, 32 years old, he doesn't throw nearly as hard as he used to. And I would be absolutely stunned if he even comes close to approaching the all Star caliber stuff. And success that he had with the Yankees between 14 and 17. So the only thing I resent Rick about your comment is not from a met perspective. It's from a Yankee perspective. Don't talk about Della Betances like he was some kind of failure for your team, because that's not fair. How many guys and I'm not one to quote all Star games, but look sometimes with relievers. There isn't one stat that can define a guy. I could tell you, Z R A. I can tell you is innings, but there is a great stat to define a middle reliever. But how many guys can you say? For a four year period. Four years in a world in which relievers air up and down like we talked about for four years pitch to such a high level that he was an All star pitcher four years in a row and wasn't the closer. Delon Betances was a damn good New York Yankee Damn good. And I'm not saying he'll ever be defined the way Jeff Nelson Wass or the way any other reliever was from the championship team because I get it. He wasn't on championship teams. I get that..

"Next four hours? No place we'd rather be at most. I can see that Even though this is a short season, there'll be no shortage of gut punch losses for the Mets. And unlike Game two of the season, where Dia's blows the Save the Mets lose in extra innings to the Braves last night. I was particularly disheartening and really the worst loss of this young season because instead of being able to take a bit of Cory Oswaldo, Rick Purcell o or any of these other losses, or Dia's and game to where he blew the save Close the safe. It was the guys we trust the most who let us down on Wednesday night. Of course, nobody's perfect. We know bad outings happened. But for Seth Luego and for Justin Wilson to both be responsible for coughing up the lead. Considering the issues facing the Metsbullpen already that is an awful way to lose a ball game and most we've talked about the changing identity of this Mets team for a team that was built on the rotation in the past. The one that is now built on the lineup in considering they were trailing by two runs the bottom of the ninth. Which is never ideal. You can't ask for better circumstances to mount a come from behind victory than the bets head last night. Top of the order did its job. Nimah walks, McNeil walks Alonso with the bloops single that literally hits the chalk down the right field line. They got bases loaded, no outs Red Sox against the ropes. Conforto strikes out. Okay, it happens. JD Davis Infield single scores, Nemo. Now you're only down Iran. No outs, You could taste the comeback. Then suspended so it hit the home run earlier in the game help the Mets closed the gap. He strikes out lines out ball game over cue, The sad Trumbo and I know Louise RoHaas play bad luck for the three runs allowed by Justin Wilson. But after the game, Wilson said, he just didn't have his best stuff. And I really think this was some growing pains for the Mets manager considering Wilson pitching four days out of seven, I understand he was facing Lefty's in that line about the Tantalus was up and ready to go. He ends up finishing the the inning for Wilson. Anyway, the manager needs to help his reliever out there. Pull him faster. And it's only been six games, but I think this was the worst loss of the Mets Young season. Yeah. I mean, conceivably. I mean, we could get into the semantical argument about whether or not the D A has blown save on Saturday was or whether was could've would've. Should've. That was the game that we all witnessed last night out of Citi Field. Yeah, I mean, you could gut wrenching, heart breaking It is ah, regular season game. We do know how important though these regular seasons gay regular season games are given the fact that they only have 60 of them at the base of it. And who knows if all teams are gonna go out there and play 60 games, but Yeah. Couple. Things hit me from last night. Number one. Let's start with the bullpen because you mentioned it. Yeah. Listen, I think the Mets have to have a healthy respect for the reliever that Della Betances when he's right. It does not matter, ref a lefty. Righty. I understand what Wilson was for this team a year ago when he was very good. And I'm not gonna get on Justin Wilson for you know his poor performance last night and And listen. We could easily second guess and look at Roll house and then after the comments by Wilson after the game and send your right, I mean, that's where the manager has got a got A look at his arsenal in that bullpen. Maggie and you have to understand what what Betances Khun provide, and I think when he's right, Della Betances is the best eighth inning reliever. In all of Major league baseball. I've said it time and time again, I'll make it perfectly clear. That should be his job. Regardless of who's coming up in the lineup, regardless of the analytical matchup argument. I don't care what it is Della Betances when he's right. Is a strikeout machine, and it's very, very difficult to hit and you've seen him be when he's right. A perennial All Star in the American League for the Yankees. That's how good of a reliever Delon Betances, and I think you're right. The concern I would have about RoHaas here is With Wilson. You don't want to do what Calloway did a couple of years ago when he did it in full force over the 1st 13 or 14 games, which is completely exhaust your bullpen. Now he hasn't done that toe luego. He hasn't done that. Too familiar, certainly isn't done appetite to Betances, and he certainly has not done that to Edwin Diaz. But when you look at Wilson and kind, the role that he has, and he's better than just being a lefty specialist, right? I mean, he's a pretty good reliever. But last night clearly was a scenario in a situation where, you know, regardless of the matchup, even with Lefty you bring up you bring in Dillon Betances for that eighth inning roll there, even in a tide baseball game after Luego gives up the home run to tie the game up in three months. It's a scenario where I think Dylan Betances gonna work through that line up there if you're rolling, so, Yeah, I think you could be critical of the decision to go Wilson and keep Wilson in the game there. The other thing they say about last night is missed opportunities. And I'm not even gonna focus in on the ninth inning where it was assessment is swinging and missing on a on an awesome curve from workman. You know what, 12 State of the art 12 to 6 curve that he sworn clearly over the top. No, and he did have a line drive single, and he did it in a home run earlier on in the game, So assessments now is two home runs on the season, and they can know humpback liner that fell into the glove with short stuff. I'm not even gonna get on those two guys what you're going to get on the overall lost opportunities. They were three for 14 as a team with runners in scoring position..

"Dotcom. Nice job by you, Jake it outta that butt away. Yeah, especially because seeing eye single. Then he falls behind three. You know, on al bees with Freddie coming up? Yeah, The thing that was tough is he gets the 1st 2 outs of the third inning gets ahead of a Kunio into Anna Cooney, A shatters his back. And you mentioned it a play Jake almost made on a comeback, And once it got passed him there was no shot. It actually went through for a base hit. And then he falls bine Ozzy alibis and gets out of it, which is great. The negative is His pitch count is a big deal today because I don't think Louise RoHaas let him throw 95 100 pitches already said 80 right 80 pitches today. Based on that nobody wants you got now where we not now through three. Pinkies like has a lot of fun as well. I don't think he's done his time. But I think he's in the high forties now probably which Right now. He's at 50 his. He had 50 rounds at 50 and if he would have gotten you Kunio comebacker, he could have gotten out of that inning at about 41 pitches, so it's a bit it's a big deal. Only because pitch count is gonna be monitored very closely involved with the logo today. I mean, if they got any kind of a leader, if it's a they've got to take Jake out when it's coolest. I mean, you're probably going to see Luego. There's a good chance. You're looking at five innings from Jacob to Graham, and I think they'd be fortunate to get six out of He's gonna have to have a couple of really efficient innings to get six innings at him because he's given you three and he's been good. I mean, there's no complaints here is only allowed that base it He did walk Freddie Freeman, and it certainly seemed like you around was definitely But so far medicine Braves early on 00 opening day, the Graham and Soroka battling it out the manager of the Yankees. Arun Boon will join us coming up at five o'clock. They have a day off today. After winning opening day, the rain shortened game against the Washington Nationals. Richie is down in North Carolina. Hey, Richie! Richie, How are you? What's up, man? Happy Baseball. You know, first, you know, I was unsure about this 60 game season. No fans. Um, but, you know, as I watched a few games and I feel like the whole thing with no fans have been bothered me at their first few winning. That was kind of just locked in on the baseball today. Do they pump the noise in and the stadium or is that only on TV stadium in a state of his puppet? Yeah. Yep. Sort of plates of players here. Correct. Yeah, that's weird. I I waited playwright. I got like it's It's funny rich. I've heard mixed things about it because early on, I think a few Yankees were saying they wanted to hear something in the background. And then Joey Votto came out and said it was the worst idea ever. And whoever came up with it never played baseball, so it's obviously not a universal view on if they want that pumped in crowd sound or not. The early returns on it is it's okay as background sound, but I wouldn't want it to get too loud because it's fake. It's not riel, and sometimes it was coming out. Delayed like in some of the preseason games I put on a guy would hit a home run. In four seconds later, you'd hear the crowd go crazy. Come on, That's that's not accurate, so I'm getting used to it too, because you know what? I'm watching baseball. It's all I'm watching. So the crowd noises and is important in the game of baseball. Just watching what's happening. They got Steve elves in the stance. He's allowed in. No cut out of Steve Gallops. I don't know what he's going on them. They'll be around them. But what could he possibly reporter not trying any new concessions? They're all closed Roman Great Richie and Queen Richie Pirates. Oh, boy, did you have you watched that rascal team of mind? You know, when I watch Richie, I watched every pitch. No had bless you. You hear? Unbelievable. I I did not. And I'm a giant wave probably want worth three teams in baseball. And if we got 2018 Joe in the playoffs, maybe I got a shop to get it. But you know, and what's the advantage that you get three games at home? When there's no, there's no crowd. You don't have to travel that that's that's an issue. And have you know you talked about Aaron Boone. I guaranteed caribou will not touch the fact that that there's extra teams and he will play any different. I will be shocked if he doesn't think he'll say We're not going to take anything for granted. Going to play every game that we have to do, and we're going to play the same do with 10 games in which he may he may say that, but I don't think he's going to manage like that. No, He's that and I agree with that. But I don't think he will say it. And as far as the job I mean, we knew Michael Thompson was going to win this tournament. My God, Richie will read, Ski. Come on, Rich, You know that. We'll run ski. I know of like, you know, I don't know what Yeah, I've heard today but I'm not really on top of it will quit with the match. I think it will save them with the extra because you know you want the other creations Use God and Stroman. But I'm really curious had his full pension work because If those guys ideas and you know, he made a comment about Novak in 30 about at six, I think you'll see the closer is being DEA so that bullpen is going to be the whole key to season. Captain's. You could really be an issue this trauma. Take it, boy, Always a pleasure. I think we knew that going in prior to the Stroman injury pride of the Syndergaard injury even that this bullpen wrecked them last year. You know the reason why they missed the postseason was their bullpen, a 1 86 games. It's not as if they were 50 games out of a playoff spot right there, Bullpen wreck them and so even before these injuries in the starting rotation even before everything that we've seen that's making 2020 different It was going to come down to this planet was going to come down a Ken Edwin D has bounced back. What's Delon Betances? We've seen the best of Della Betances right here in New York City, but he also barely pitched last year. And so it's a legitimate concern. Toe wonder what he is. And the same thing which air is familiar? Me Jairus Familia. You know what I'll never forget about J. R is familiar, bro. Is when he came in a game five against the Dodgers in 2015 with a one run lead and got a six out safe. I thought to myself that night after the celebration of winning that game while you got closer, they got a real one. This isn't just a guy who's gonna put a big regular sees numbers. They got their guy. What cuts? This guy showed six outs. Dodger Stadium. Game five. I mean, it was a Mariano Rivera ask didn't take that's that the change? No change quickly, obviously in the World Series, I think a part of that was the managing a Terry Collins. But nevertheless, Jairus familiar and get the job done, and his defense didn't back him up. And we all remember the wild card game against the Giants with Connor Gillespie. But then last year after they brought him back when they traded him away. He was awful. Forget about just being a guy who I was awful. It was awful. It was awful. So what do we have? 60 are a 5.8 or something, And he was He was atrocious, Terrible, And so those guys absolutely need to bounce back. And Seth Luego is is a is a fascinating weapon because we saw at times Mickey Callaway use him as a multi inning weapon. How is Louise RoHaas going to use? And he didn't really answer that yesterday..

"Get to the Mets. Because there was some news that came out on Wednesday. That is not exactly ideal. For the Mets is they're trying to get back to the postseason. And that, of course, involves Status of Marcus Stroman. And Basically out of nowhere. You found out for Marcus Stroman in the Mets. Minor CAF care. And he's gonna miss some time. And it's 60 game season. That's a problem. It's a bigger problem for the meds. When you consider Who else? Did try now that starting rotation We get it, Jake. The Graham is best pitcher in all baseball. He's proven that he's won back to back Scion's There's no way in the world Did you get me down, Jake? I expect him to be State of the room. We're talking two or three days ago. My concerns with the Mets going into Asia. Later in the bullpen. Pretty solid offensively. Good. My questions about poor Sela. And Matt and Michael Walk in and what exactly these guys we're going to be remember? Oh Syndergaard, not throwing a pitch in 2020 Zack Willer is now a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. And I think for a lot of us Well looking at Marcus Stroman. Is a guy who could pick up that slack that Marcus Stroman could be a guy. That could be that one day in the Met rotation Well, You have to wait on that for a while. And now there's going to be even more pressure on Wacha and mats and porcelain and Can you get to the fifth spot in the rotation? A pretty Walker Rocket. Who's we? I'm not talking. Royals will Not pretty. So I think there is a decision at hand now for the New York Mets. And it's what to do with set, Luca Luego has been so valuable. No matter where you put him He's been valuable in the rotation. He's been very valuable out of that bullpen. This is a guy who I think brought all of this. Has been built up and has been conditioned. To be a believer. To the Mets now doing about face. Realized the need is in the rotation. And put Luego is their fifth guy. What did they say? You know what? We're going to weather a storm. We need to value our bullpen. We need our bullpen, maybe deep and we're gonna keep we'll go there. What would I do? I would keep self will go in the bullpen. Because I think he can help the team Mohr Going a couple of days a week, and I also think the fact that he has not been built up to be a starting pitcher. Now, all of a sudden, just trusting him in that role. I think it's kind of problematic. I don't think it's the sort of thing that you could do that the step of finger Old Stroman gets back. I value my bullpen. Even those games where I got it was worth the locket pitching whatever. Maybe Get him out quick. Maybe that today I used Google for two or three innings, but then I could use them for another two or three innings two or three days later. I like having that sort of versatility. So a med team that was brutal in the bullpen last year. I'm not weakening that open that improved. By adding Della Betances familiar trimming down the eyes. Still no idea what to expect. I would continue myself. You roll with the group they got In the open. And try to piece together, respond notation. That's what I would do. I think the Mets at least in the short term. What girl? 877337 66 66 Let's head to Minnesota and he's up next. He's not found any What's going on, man? I'm just trying to find out. Dude. Did the Yanks really kneel for the, uh, national anthem? No, no. They did not Thie, all the Yankees and the nationals before the game. For the national anthem was parade took a knee and then when the national anthem was play, they all stood up. We are not doing I could tell you to Sandy right now. I am not doing national anthem calls for the next four hours or whenever I'm on But to answer your question. No. The Yankees did not take in the for the national anthem. They took any before the national appreciate for answering that. There you go give you some clarification on it. I am not going to do three hours on it. We have games coming back. I actually could talk about games. What a sight. What a concept. I actually think it was, you know, a well thought out, well designed plan by the Yankees in Major League baseball job. Ted stand Ality or Carmine up. Next. He's on a family car. What's up, J. J? How we doing on that karma? What's happening, dude? How we doing tonight? May drive home listening to you. Well, surprising, Carmine. Now listen, I expected to be on the air. I did not expect to be on the air this early because I figured we'd be you know, at this point time may be in the bottom half of the seventh inning in the top half of the eighth inning of the Yankee game, and hopefully we'll get back to D. C. And wrap this bad boy up a coal. Good judge look good, Stan. Look good. So all in all five innings, I'm happy. Oh, yeah, Everybody looked pretty good. J. J two things one. Any news on with the Toronto Blue Jays are playing. You know, it's a very, very good question. They have talked about Pittsburgh. They have talked about Baltimore. I don't think the Bluejays want any part. And playing in a minor league facility. And you know what, Carmine? I totally understand why, if you're a major leaguer, and it's going to sound entitled, and it's going to sound like these guys are better than What you are used to the accommodations off a major league club house. You're going to do the five star hotels that are easier to find in major league cities. So from that standpoint, I think for a lot of those guys they just would prefer playing even if it's not there Home ballpark, even if there's no affiliation with that team. They would prefer that being the case. I hear you remember? It's like, didn't didn't Francisco tell them? You know they're not allowed to play their part. For Pittsburgh. One of them they they declined them to play there. Well, the latest I saw is that they could play. Maybe not all of their games in Pittsburgh, but I thought they could play at least a couple of the games in Pittsburgh. I'll double check that I'm not exactly sure, the full tilt full detail of what Helena was doing. I just know they're not playing north to the border that I could tell you and that they're not playing in minor league facilities. That too. You're crazy on my second thing is, I got almost die again. And I'm not. I'm not a man. But if I wasn't there, I mean, I think the fans should be a little bit happy about the Mets, right? They do have a train. Starting the season off phenomenal. And it's only 60 games if they get off to a great thought, like they asked him. You know, 23 years..

"Good Thursday to one and all. Moussa, Maggie, Mark looses Maggie Gray with you mon. So back at the shop 3 45 Hudson Christmas monocle as well as we roll right up until two. Joe and Evan do come your way, then. Opening night. Happy opening night, everyone out there and I gotta be honest. Yeah, I am. I am so excited that baseball is back and that is returning and you're going to give Yankees and gnats and then the Dodgers in play late and you get a double header tonight And then the rest of league opens up tomorrow. Maggie and With that, and we'll get into Yankees. That's we've got a cavalcade of baseball guest for you, Ron Darling will join us. C. J. Nitkowski, Sweeny Murti later on this hour as well to talk a little Yankees baseball, so we'll get you prepped. We got some predictions as well, coming your way a little bit later on in the program. We'll get to the Yankees here momentarily because you got to kick off the program this morning talking about the Mets and the news that came down after Eddie called in to us yesterday, where, after the RoHaas zoom call that Louise said that Marcus Stroman was dealing with a little bit of a catfish you news comes out later on in the afternoon. That Stroman as a slight tear in that CAF we're going week to week placed on the injured list was Marcus Stroman penciled in to be the number two starter, We know contract year, acquired by Brody from Toronto a year ago to kind of Stem the what was going to be the perceived an actual loss of Zack Wheeler and free agency didn't pitch particularly well as a Met wasn't nearly what he was, is a blue Jay in the first half last year, and you're expecting good things from Stroman and Senate Linen right behind Jacob deGrom's You're Number two starter and now you throw that up against the wall because you have no idea Exactly when that calf will heal, RoHaas said. We're going to take a week to week and now the Mets have gotta starting rotation issue as dominant as as as loaded at one point in time. Is the Mets starting rotation Wass, You look at this rotation now. And it's to Graham and it's mats and its Wacha and its poor celo. And then it's unknown. I mean, as it stands right now, so that is not exactly the way that you want to start off the regular season. If you're the Mets, it is terrible news. There's no other way to cut it. When you look back on that deal by brought in that wagon, and I'm not going to kill him. You can't destroy him for injury. What they gave up. Other people around Major League Baseball were ticked off that they didn't have to give up all hell of a lot in order. Get Marcus Stroman, so he tried to be aggressive, tried to be ahead of the curve. In that move. The Stroman injury now for the Mets, with this rotation, compounded with the Syndergaard injury. It's an absolute disaster. Well, Can you blame this one on 2020 right? Because this is just here We go again with the Mets, and you're always waiting for this bad injury news to happen. We have already called me yesterday. Most. You're right. We're talking about Louise RoHaas and Eddie say, you know, it's just calf tightness. You know, and calf tightness of these day to day and then just a mere hours later, it's like now, actually, it's a terror of the caf. And you always hate to see what a doctor's quoted in The New York Post today, calling the injury quote unquote daunting. Now Marcus Stroman himself has taken to Twitter. He said that it's really minor setback. He doesn't even feel it when he's pitching. It's really just when he's running. He has to be 100% before you get back out on the field, But he doesn't see it as a major setback, but It's hard to look at it any other way in a 60 game season because the depth is immediately going to be tested, and, honestly, the options that the Mets have are not really all that appealing. Quite frankly, Corey Oswald. We just saw him against the Yankees. That that that good last year IRA over five you have David Peterson. Never pictured the majors so he could be high, and he could be a breakout star. This year. It's possible, but he's still a massive question. Mark let alone Ah, former Cy Young winner pour Sello and a former Siri's EVP and walk a postseason. Siri's EVP and Wacha, who we still thought were question marks and Steven Matz is a It could be a head case at times, and he struggles with his confidence. So you know, it's a real kick in the teeth here for, you know, feeling really positive about the Mets and feeling really positive the start of the season, But I just need somebody to answer the question. About why the hesitancy is there for Seth Luego, too? Try to get stretched out. To become a starter or As close as he can get to be being a starter for the Mets this year, because to me, it makes all the sense in the world rather than go with someone unproven and You're going to be asking a lot of one of these young guys rather than do that. Because if I'm not mistaken, didn't Rossmore Ramirez get put that he didn't even make the 30 man So if you are asking me what Who do I trust? And in the 60 game season that's going to be who do you trust? I trust Luego trust logo in local can't pitch back to back days. Mean Heap it. He did it seven times last year. They like himto have days off, or they have in the past. Like the death days off in between his relief appearances. It just seems like a good idea for logo to be that guy to try, Tio Patch things up right now. And he gives me confidence that the fifth starter is it going to be one massive question, Mark? Why don't you screw the about Luego and I tweet out as much yesterday? The problem you have is you hit upon it is stretching them out. I mean, the organization didn't lead or he'd ah, the coal from Luego after last season that he wants to be a starter. We talked to set Luego down in Port ST Lucie in early March. We're down there right before the pandemic hit Maggie and You know, he wants to clearly obviously be a starter. He understands it. Listen, you could only make so much money. Doing what he does on a day in day out basis over the course of 162 game season, right if you're in the bull pen, you want to either be a closer or if you're in that bullpen. Certainly you could make a good living, but ifyou're luego and you've got the talent that he has, and you can pitch back to back to back days, given the reservations that the organization has regarding your elbow in your arm. Then I don't understand why you would not plug him into the starting rotation. You want to be a close. You want to be a starter just as Java Chamberlain. That was the police that he had way back when when he was a Yankee, So we all understand that we get an I grew there. The problem his time. I mean, that's the issue. I mean, the reservation of the Mets have clearly when you know they decided not to not to go in that direction and give luego an opportunity to start this year by bringing in, walk it and pour Sello even though he was on record, saying that he wants to be a starter. They did not want to They did not want to further weakened what was perceived and what was, in actuality, a weakness a year ago because luego was fantastic. It was one of the best relievers at all the major league baseball year ago coming out of that bullpen with that being said you did at Della Betances, whose fastball does look live. When we have seen him on occasion here, coming off that slight tear of his Achilles tendon to the back into the bullpen, you're gonna need Edwin D. As at some point to bounce back and show a little bit of life after a pathetic performance in 2019 and then you got familiar who people are speaking glowingly about as well. So my question is. Where is Seth Lugo's Mohr? Where is he? More important right now. When you're dealing with this Is he more important plugging him in as a starter. The issue is you got to stretch them out, which is going to take some time because that can't happen overnight. That's not going to be a two or three day process for Lou Go to be properly stretched out. So you don't you don't put him in harm's way and risk. Any sort of injury time is something the Mets don't have. That is. What I think ultimately would probably stand in the way here of Luego is that he's not properly stretched out. But I grew the he's the most viable option When you're looking at the options to replace Marcus Stroman in the starting rotation, the best got to do it would be Seth Luego, and I think he pretty proved to be more valuable as a starter. Given the limitations that you haven't Maggie, you're right. We do have questions. I mean, let's be realistic here. Oh, the method Metsa one point in time at a starting rotation with the Graham and Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler and Mats and Matt Harvey..

"To get it out the way But we don't have to play this season this year NFL wide and they're kind of like giving you a little bit a little piece that you know that they might not play this season. But I know what you guys make comments on both comments. About sex. But if you have to play for money, it's a motivation factor that way a lot of second every hole in their guys that are motivated to be great. The money is not the same motivator. Johanna says. Everybody in the whole of the second, Everyone basically said, Don't pay you and every general Majin baseball well, aside from the Mets, where it wasn't going to obsessive is a long term deal. He's He's a completely different player when he is when he is feeling on the edge where he's playing for something or when he has when he has security. Now he's been hit with a bunch of injuries. We know that and he has been ravaged by that he's barely played in the last 34 years, barely played any baseball, So I looked at him this year. Yeah, it's great that he's motivated. That is that is now a surprising headline. He was motivated March. I expect him in a mode be motivated here in July over the weekend out at Citi Field with all that dough, I can't place. I think the Mets are a better team than they were five years ago. I think there are ways to win baseball games. I can't make sense, but is any sort of a key this year? Whatever I get from him fantastic, But I'm not counting on your own assessments to be great this year. You arrested like everybody else. You know that name is losing me right now. The Yankee guy that they kept on on the team for years and years and years. Never got healthy. Never was never got on the field and he was a shortstop that they got from Colorado. Never got help. He never really got on the field. Tired. One size does not display for money, too. I'll be motivated. Everybody plays from O'Neill. We're getting to Samantha. Everyone get wants to get paid The differences cess pit asses together. That's all he wants. That's all that motivates him is the next contract. What's wrong with that? And you want that type of all places? What, those? No, I don't. I don't I don't want here's what I don't want. I don't want to say I don't want any athlete. Where if I give him a long term contract, I'm getting different effort if he gets that long term deal as compared to what he's playing on a one year contract to me, That's not a good characteristic tree. That is a flaw. Now, if you want to say alright, that's not a big deal for you. To me. It's a characteristic floor and I don't want that. Do it everyday In the contract With the Angels doing Mike Trout works his rear end. Oh, Excess penance. If I gave him a five year deal is going to be just as motivated now, as he is in for five years left on wouldn't be. Are we talking about That guy in California computer pitiful where Magic is trying to say We have a six game situation anyway. Let's get let's get this guy motivated. We know what he's motivated by. Let him get him up playing. Don't push him. Don't wear him out. Let him know what we do where he's barely played Baseball. Totally there with you. And thank you for the call. Appreciate it. I think that I'm not trying to fight the current here, right? I'm not trying, Teo. I'm trying to go and lean into my strength. My strength this cesspit Issa's a D. H. My strength is Listen, I don't care what's aestheticism motivated by because I'm looking at this season, I think could be shades of 2015 because of all the factors and stars that Aline For suspicious and for the Mets this year, and you know most of we're talking about how you know suspicious is impact on the lineup in 2015 with so much more pronounced because of the deficiencies that were in that lineup in 2015 how he overcompensated for a lot of guys who you know, we're we're frankly not. They were a team that was not good enough to make it to the World Series at the All Star break, and then they completely turned around their fortunes. And the reason why I think cess pit will be and needs to be a key this year is that even though that lineup has gotten better if we're really going to take an honest look at the Metsrotation this year, it is Dick Graham motivated, strove, unsure because obviously he's playing for another contract, too. And I think he's a guy who's motivated just by him Self and You know, and and wanting to be great. And I do think that Stroman has that has that burning desire for sure. And then you talk about Matt's Purcell. Oh, and Wacha. Okay, That's not so inspiring. When you put it up against what the nationals have what the Phillies have what the Braves have that's going to be tough. And you know what? The bullpen for as much as I wanna have hope. That they are going to be a lot better because I hope that this is a bounceback year. I think Betances, who he said was a silver lining. He got some extra time to rest that Achilles, looking at his element in Luego, there are there are places you could look and say, OK, I think the bullpen is going to be better. But if we take this honest look at the Mets pitching and how it stacks up with the rest of the police, you know that. The way I can say it in the way I'll put it is that the Mets are going to need all that offense. They're going to need it. You're goingto you're talking about. Tried to create a little bit of margins you know for and try to separate yourself. Let's be frank. The Mets are gonna need it. And so I don't think you could ever say like, Listen, you're gonna have you have so many other people and bats that are so much more important than cess pit is it's a proven bet. It hasn't been tested in several years. But it's a proven bad and it's something that if I can get I mean, if I can get 15 home runs out assessment is this year. I mean, a psyching if I could, If I could have him, you know, and he could he creates could create protection for other guys in the line up all the things that come with being scary at the plate Suspicious has shown in the past he could dio and he provides. If he's healthy, That's something I'm going to need. If I'm the Mets, I'm going to need it. Yeah, I just think there are better baseball team overall that I can't put that kind of importance on suspects. So assessment is doesn't hit this year and doesn't play well. The Mets can't win. Listen, It's going to be tougher. The Mets to win no matter what, When you look at the rest of the division. It's incredibly tight. It's just going to be really packed. And with 60 games Who the hell knows I no, I I understand that, but assessment is doesn't hit. Can the Mets still win? Um, I'd like to think so. I would like you can write, but I feel better about it if he was hitting, I understand you feel better that that makes sense. But you can win without cess pit is this year. Listen, if somehow Edward Dia's if somehow Edwin Diaz gets injured in the first game of the season, knocking on wood if he gets injured in the first game this season, and I have to go with some kind of combination of Della Betances setting up Jerry's familia, Do I feel good about that? No. Do I think the Mets could win? Sure, Familia confined himself like I could play that game with any player in the lineup..

"I think they're just too good of a ball club and they've got too much depth. And we've seen them be ableto handle injuries, even without Louise Severina. Yeah, There's they're starting rotation is going to be fine. Even with the loss of Della Betances out of the bullpen, the bullpen is gonna be a okay Joes in Parsippany, Hijo. Bill guy. What's up, Joe? Hey, there, So, so I just want to move. I want to ask you So if Aaron Boone if the Yankees don't wanna don't wanna World series here, Aaron Boone's God that no. I never said that. I had never said he'd get fired. Oka. Okay, so, but I think they were the Yankee fans that would call up this station as we're taking calls, and the Yankees don't want a World Series again, eliminating the posters that would be ripping barren boon to the heaven. Yeah, I agree. I hear you're saying I wouldn't be one of those people, but First thing I want to do that. We remind everybody. Yes, sirs cheated. We need to remember that as we come back to baseball, But I think you're underestimating the Astros. I was looking at a poll the other day like the one who gets hit first. When you still look at the names on that team. It's not, you know, they lost your cold, but Um You know, they still have a legit team. I still I think you're underestimating them. Definitely somebody Sorry. I said, I agree with you. I think the Astros are gonna be good. Justin Verlander had that growing surgery, but I think he got a A okay that he's gonna be ready to go. I believe for opening day most. I think the Astros they're going to be formidable. I d'oh. I mean, listen, they don't have to worry about anyone booing them Entity of these, you know, visiting ballparks. And I don't think they're going to get hit all that much either, which was a storyline, You know that Some of the players were kind of feeding into that the Astros hitters were goingto be ducking fastballs all season long. I think that is overblown Story. Yeah, I just, You know, I think the biggest thing to wear me this year and it doesn't come down to airboat. I think the biggest thing that worried me her new, you know their strength and conditioning program. They have that they put in. How are they going to be? Stealing for 60 names and then have the You know how the virus you know affect. Everybody heard Cashman comments about you know if you're starting pitcher get to the stadium, and he's got a temperature. All that. Who's pitching that day? Do you? You know, do you throw chattering out? There's an opener. You know, I think those are the things that really are going to affect it, And I don't think you can You know you can't blame their boat for that. But I think he's the guy that Ah Don't keep the team together all year. Why was I think gonna show you that a year ago, and we're not even factoring in when we were having a conversation about the global pandemic and dealing with covert 19 right? There could be issues that all the sun rear their their head during this Yankee team where you're missing guys left and right, But we've seen them deal with injuries, and the Yankees have Unbelievable depth within the organization. And they're scouting department have found guys that they've plucked from other organizations that have been really, really good for this team. Like a look, void. I mean, they've been really good. When they and their scouts looked at his launch angle and said he would be a perfect fit for Yankee Stadium. And when he's been healthy, he's been a guy that's been productive here. John's in the truck, eh, John? Out. How's everybody? What's up, Johnny? How you doing? How's the little guy doing Mag? It's his first birthday today. John Buffon and Lucas both born on July 1st Crazy right that we were Thanks. Alright, Maggie, You're pretty funny. The other day we were talking about your unibrow. Yeah. You wanna get a friend? You're too much, but I think the real job struggle's real you're putting that would say that I'm a man. You guys are really funny, Hilarious. Every picture on that poor guy. I think to his face so they can wait one time. My friend's son said to me More stories on this. Our sports channel on TV, and he looked at the TV sometime to Colin Quinn. I said, that's more quick. Very, very attractive. Very good looking Mark. You know what I met Colin? You know what's funny? I met Colin Quinn on a beach in Mont Talk three summers ago. You like brothers, But you're better looking. Thank you very much. I feel good on this Wednesday. Thank you. For the price of the poachers aren't I think that the new pitcher for the Yankees And it's 66 again season, I think will be warm. Yeah. You know, it's not gonna be the workload. That's for sure. My soldiers are always lined up right at the front, just beating down this unibrow that just will not cease to keep charging forward. Like on the battlefield ever since I was, you know, 7 10 years old. I've been battling this unibrow. I first got my eyebrows waxed when I was 11. How about that? I don't Wow. Like Anthony Davis. Have you ever gotten desperate enough to where you had to shave it? It's dangerous, Dangerous guys out there. Memo to all the guys out there. The razor. Man. Be careful with that thing. Be careful with that thing. If you were ever a point where you're so desperate, you couldn't get your threatening that he had to go and ah and get and crack out the old Vic. "I think you'd be better and he's gonna have to be for this team because they can't suffer and the leash is going to be very, very short on that windy as as well. If he has any kind of an issue, they're going to go to somebody else. Given the fact of a 60 game season. It's not going to be a lean on and say what we have to figure out windy as out. Nonsense. If you're Louise Row house here in the Mets, you've got to do what's right by everybody else on that team. And if Diaz hasn't figured out coming into this year after what's transpired a year ago, then you've got to pass the buck and move on to somebody else. Yeah. I mean, I'm expecting that Diaz is going to be better, because I mean, I guess maybe I should not got would. I don't know how it could be much worse. It was a terrible first year here in New York for him. But I also like the safety net of Della Betances, potentially taking over those closing responsibilities if need be. I mean Jerry's Familia I've written off Familia. It's going to take a lot to turn my head. There's too much baggage, their terms of history. I just don't believe it, even though he slimmed down I just I can't put any faith in Familia. I just can't. So I'm looking more at Zelman Luego but dances you know, and those guys who are going to be really crucial for this team and for more than that. I know you're going to need more than that. But I look at those guys and and I trust them. I know I get the one thing about the tenses, though historically speaking, has been much better as an eighth inning man than the closer. I get that but beyond necessity, because no, I get it. I get it. I'd be a little bit leery about Betances handling that closes role, But I understand Sometimes beggars can't be choosers and maybe Betances in a different situation, you know, New League different team. Same city. Maybe Betances will figure it out. If you have to lean on him. There's no down the talent. I mean, I don't think you'll find a bigger Della Betances found them myself. I mean, I love him, and I loved him as a Yankee, and I wish he was still a Yankee. But facts are facts. He was not a when he was asked to close. He was not a he was not effective closer. He's Mohr effective as either 1/7 or, as I mentioned, I think you could be the best eighth inning man in baseball. Yeah. I mean, that was several years ago, though. What was he? What was he closing? What was a 2016 when he was good, wasn't nobody to stare. It wasn't that good. It was good, but I think things can change right? And and I just like him there as a presence, because if something does go sideways and haywire with Edwin ideas that I don't feel like the seasons potentially goes off the rails because of that, even though I expect he has to be better. I also like the fact that listen, the Mets have had an issue in terms of catching depth for a long time. They have not addressed it. I think this was a mistake not to address it. Wilson Ramos, though in a 60 game season, I feel a lot better about that. And I feel better that the Mets have the D. H now to make up for the offensive inefficiency of Tomas Neto when he is in the lineup because NATO is a major league catcher. When it comes to defense. He's not though, when it comes to office. He's basically a zero So at the plate so with you have the D h to balance that out, But I don't feel like there's just two major holes in the lineup when you have the pitcher who's batting and also Tomas Tito. There are things about this where I I don't know if I'm talking myself into it or what I'm seeing is true. And what I'm seeing is there which is in 60 games. Listen. The Mets and 1 62 I don't know if this would have been a very difficult year for that. But in 60 in 60 I think this could serve really what this could serve them. Really? Well. Now, listen, we'll talk to the it here to kingdom Come about what the season is going to mean the legitimacy or whoever wins the World Series this year. Do you just spend the rest of your life defending it? Because it's not on par with what every other team has done and the length of the season. You're moose and I've talked at length about the individual awards and how we think those air totally just bub kiss this year. I mean, what do you give out a Cy Young Makes 12 starts. It's crazy to us. But For the Mets. This is a chance this really is and I don't agree with Brody that you just pick up where you left off from a season ago and you build on it, But I do like the core, and I don't think there's anything I think that's that's good. I like the corps. I like the McNeil. I like a lot, so I like Conforto. I like the fact that Graham is a two time site like I think they have enough pieces here. But now I can't tell if I'm just talking myself into it on Twitter at M F w f a A and want to hear from you. I'm feeling optimistic about the bets like crazy. No, I I think you'd be optimistic. I think it's I think there are issues on this team that you know. I don't love the catching situation even in the 60 game season. I think the D H helps peas. I think they've got a lot of D H is on this team. I think J B Davis is a D. H. A. Dominic Smith doesn't really have a place to play on, really trust him in the outfield. He's really a first baseman. He's going to get some reps. We've talked about you, Enos ESP. It is. I don't even know if he can run like he used to whether or not he's going to make use of the outfield. It's great that he's obviously better in June late June early July, then he was in middle middle middle part of the month of March. That's fantastic, but I don't know. I I think I think for the Mets I don't for a team that's been really built around that starting rotation. The rotations not where once wass it's just not when you look at it. The bullpen. Lugo's not in, you know, and every other day reliever you know you've gotta manage Seth Lugo's in innings, and he's a guy that eventually wants to be part of the starting rotation you mentioned about familiar and D as we've talked about Del Impotence is You know what is the McNeil and alarms were going to pick up from where they were a year ago. Where is this team defensively as well? What is Robbie Cano going to be offensively Because we know that he's lost a little bit and lost a little bit of a step defensively. And then you throw in the big factor of the rookie manager and row house, you know, and handling this year conversation that we had with John Flaherty yesterday. You know the the way that teams air handled early on, especially the first couple weeks. How much do you lean on stars? If they struggle a little bit early? How quick of a hook How do you handle that bullpen? How much trust you have guys to be able to work it out. If they struggle early on in the season, knowing the limited amount of games that you have to play with, and you can't go with any kind of can't go through any kind of a swoon. The Mets have got something I like. And I'm not telling you that I'm a Debbie Downer on this Tuesday morning. All I'm saying is that there are concerns when you look at this team toe where we talked about the Yankees. There's really not. There's not a lot of concern there because of the organizational depth that they have, and because of the stars that they have on the team and what they've been able to go through. It's been a tumultuous offseason. The managers in Beltran was there for a spell. You've got a starting rotation that doesn't have Syndergaard that as well are now a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. It can't tell me that they're better without them. I don't think they are..
