"Good day welcome to this edition of theology answers. I am James and with me, as always is Eddie Delcor today we have a question related to the doctrine of election. Now, of course it's midterm elections, but with the corona virus those things been postponed, and when some people here their word election. It's almost the first thing they think of like. Are we voting on something as God choosing something based on any type of particular number, etc and. People are confused by the doctrine of election primarily, because it's not taught, and that's primarily because most so-called pastor preachers don't understand it. They don't understand the scripture. They don't understand the holistic message of the major narrative of the old and New Testament, and so the first portion of our show. Today is going to be answering. The question is election biblical and Waza important, but before we get started. Let's answer the question. What is election because a lot of people think that it's something that it's not and some people don't like it and Edward and we're GonNa talk about that today as well as the Lord grants us the time, but. But if we were to talk about election in the context of the first century, election would be understood as something that was marked out or chosen somebody who, amongst all things were sort of collected or or gathered or marked, and if you understand what the Bible teaches about election, and these are going to be some very dogmatic statements for some of you I believe that election is the golden thread that runs throughout the entirety of scripture from the very beginning as we see God creating the heavens and the earth, and putting the first humans on the world that we even see from their progeny. We see election. We see God. For himself, the purpose that he created all things is to be the redeemer of his people. And so if we don't grasp this from a biblical point of view, then we're going to find ourselves in deep trouble when it comes to trying to understand you know just just what it is that the Bible says concerning the doctrine. If I were to give a small and easy answer, I would say that election is by the sheer sovereignty of God to love some people. For himself. To choose, them. And to Ordain that he would, he would redeem them through the person of Jesus Christ. We see words like four new and known and ordained in predestined throughout the scripture, and we need to understand election in this manner that by grace you have been saved, and that grace according to the doctrine of election. Is that God favorably? Chose you because he four new you? And he predestined you in love to be conformed to the image of his son now. Why do people not like that? Like that definition I know brother at you. Guys have some things to add clarify in that, but there are tons of scripture, thought just verses, but whole books and letters of scripture. that. Give time to this very thing, and if we are going to be true to scripture then. I think we need to be true to the teaching of election. The people don't like it and I think people don't like it because they've not been taught the Bible, and because they've been taught what we would call a false gospel, and the fact that they would not believe that God chooses to save people, and does the sow the saving, but rather he offers them some type of salvation so from their brother Edward What. What would you? What would you add to my initial definition of election? Your What you said I think is the foundation of Alexion Scott Sovereignty and he features one eleven, and says we obtained an inheritance having been predestined according to purpose. A, who is working all things after the counsel of his own will right, so if he's working, and it's articulate here the term the adjective Panta. The all things Tuck hands if he's actually orchestrating or working the all things after the counsel was on will at would include not only heaven in hello, but it would include salvation of ammunition nation life death sickness. It would include everything because that's exactly what Paul said. And the doctor election was it really was the topmost doctrinal reform faith because they're put great emphasis on and recognize the aloneness and discrimination of God in salvation like we read in First Corinthians one thirty and thirty one. It's his doing that. We're in Christ Jesus Right. Now so it does come down to a sovereign. If you really got US Arvin overall things. Then he saw over man's eternal destiny. I do not fine. That got PUTS DECISION OF SALVATION IN THE HANDS OF THE CENTER Of course in stark contrast to this is synergistic. Here lot of sociology of Roman Catholics and even in modern evangelism right synergism, a term that means God and men, or or working together literally it means, but it denotes God and man working in cooperation God sends his son to die for the world right, and it's up to you now. In cooperation with God's Great Plan Right believe him and that would be that would be what were conditional election. House, we'll see in a second. Yeah, that will be that would be conditional election, but as we read in so many different places like Rome. It's nine. Twenty two twenty three election really is God's way of making known to US vessels of mercy, the riches of his glory, and look how one sees election in God's sovereignty as you know more than I do. It will affect every dimension and method of how one preaches and how evangelize. Great so dude I think an enormous abject misunderstanding. Today's doctrine election has recovered as you said a a lightning rod contention for so many Christians. Yes, because they don't. They don't like that idea. The God discriminates slide. SPURGEON, said it. You know it produces alarm. People are so afraid of it the word election as you said I like there's definition simply as in English, a choice, the act of taking out the act of choosing. And the verge to elect to the electing of those who the father gave the son. who he called, who for salvation before the world was we see this now now it's scripture I think announced he's about seven times in the New Testament and the the birds is about twenty two dollars. L. Considered. It's also the verb. I lacked our mark out is always in the middle voice meaning that the subject. And when man's involved, God is the subject of the one doing the election. Man's the object here right right a middle voice, and every time it's used as a verb. It's always in the middle of waste. That's where the subject does something for himself. So in God elects just like the term the burbs for knowing she's doing something out of special interest. He's doing something for himself. And, we see them. You know the term Jesus, says the apostles I didn't. Choose Echo. That's determined for to elect I. Didn't choose or you to choose me, but I chose Ecuador I chose you and appointed you. You'd go and bear fruit. Now they come down to and we should mention this. Take few moments and. Speak of the two views selection because you ask why people have such a problem well. They don't like the God discriminating during the election. So they WANNA have something to do with their own election, and this is called unconditional elections in in contrast to conditionally election. What is conditional election. You incident. Elections well condition conditional election would be you know if we just use the terms that an order for one to be elected that there has to be a condition that's met, and of course there are many iterations of how people have viewed this in its philosophical, not necessarily contextual or theological, but it becomes theological, and it becomes logical error when they think yeah, what it is is that God knows all things, and he sees all things, and he looks through and I'll..

Gherman and Bradley there. But they're saying, yeah. Okay. We'll make sure that people know they're not supposed to take that off. Because it did look like something you might want to take off. In fact, Jessica Delcor seen it said she was tempted to take it off. And and didn't and was worried that YouTube commenters would criticize her not having removed it after she did the video, but she's glad you didn't take it off now. So hopefully, they'll figure out the messaging around that. But I'm much more curious what these hardware issues are that. We saw from the virgin CNBC. This is bad. Yeah. It is. This is very bad. Because this is not just a new phone. This is not just another phone with a bunch of different features. This is a radically new form factor and one that's been a lusted after for many years, the idea of the foldable a role. "New leader at Newburgh missionary Baptist church from AME church. You found it. Yes. To baptists. Yes. How does that happen is the same? God is the same faith and one of the things that we've got to be careful of is we don't allow denominations to become gangs in heaven. There is no different section for co. Jake's an apostolic Pentecostal and United Methodist and Presbyterian, we're one faith. And I think that that's what God wants to see the earth is that we are not lost behind denominational lions. If all of it points back to you understand. You had a nice talk with your father whole Lord. I needed a nap. My father is the former presiding. Bishop of the church. My grandfather was a Bishop in the AME church. See only reformation I've only been ever been a part of. And my father said to me of God is telling you this, please. No, God didn't call your to the nomination. He called you to an assignment Delcor Atlanta. The home of the civil rights movement the home of Dr Martin Luther King junior. Yes. A lot of activists here. Yes. And you are known to as an activist minister. I am how do you explain to folks from the pulpit and active them, how did the two work together? Very simple. You've got to speak truth to power. Is there Jesus in the earth? Never was trying to become friends with the governor. He was challenging him to do. What was right for both who are marginalized disenfranchised, and oppress, and I feel that that is the historic role of the black. Pastor, I is that we've got to be able to mobilize to impact change and Atlanta is. Sacred ground for activism and for change to happen. And I just came to turn over the soil. Also that we can go back to our. Yeah. I can't see the social activists now saying, okay, we're ready for this gentleman to come in because you have a DASA of being there for people in their time of need when we're talking about police, brutality immigration. Yes. Tell us. What's your stance when it comes to police brutality, and what we've been seeing going on in this country? Where do you stand in all of that? I think that what we're seeing is deputized murder when you consider that this is two thousand eighteen since two thousand are you aware that only one police officer in the nation has ever gone to jail for shooting. Somebody black one in nineteen years. And that one instance was in north Georgia Charleston, South Carolina, gentleman by the name of Walter Scott was shot in the back for being deficient. In child support not armed robbery not in a drive by and let us not forget in that. In the initial report. The officer lied is only because somebody across the street was recording it on their phone that the verdict had to be shifted in sold. The number one weapon for millennials is their smartphones. And so if all we're doing is texting and doing likes, then we're really missing the movement and the moment, but we've got to figure out. How would it is that we use technology as a weapon for civil rights and aside from technology? What is it that the community needs has to do is? I'm former you've directed the AA CPI, and we operated on three prongs one is voter registration second was voter information third with voter mobilization. We cannot afford in this hour as black people to just move on emotion because it has no sustainability we've got be informed as to what those laws are. How we change them. And then mobilized to make that change happen. Otherwise, all we'll do is keep doing candlelight vigils have marches and do t shirts and have a new hashtag. But never see. -ffective Chang immigration. You've been very vocal on that as well. What is it that you think we need to understand in this country? Yes. For there to be respect to -bility that factor in all of this. When it comes to immigration because America is the greatest nation of immigration in the world. This is a guru large jumbo ally of all different mixes of people nobody outside of the native Americans hail from here. And so I think that we ought to operate some level of compassion for both or looking for a new way of life. And remember that at the base of the statue of liberty are in fact, scribe the words for those who are yearning to breathe free. And we've got to go back to that original standard for this nation everybody we're talking to Dr pastor. Jamal bryant. He's here. No longer in Baltimore Baltimore. What can we expect from you in your sermons? You can expect the unexpected. If you've heard it you won't hear it. If you've seen it you won't see it because I believe in a God who always does something new. And so for those who are tired of the old fair and tradition of church. This is where you need to be at new birth. Every Sunday at nine thirty on Sunday. And you're gonna have to buckle up. You're gonna clutch your pearls have asthma attack and say did I just see that? Because God always traffics in the miraculous, and the unknown. Of course, we talked about the controversies that you've been involved in when it comes to social Justice. Yes. You some might say, well, he didn't eat support Bernie Sanders. Yes. Why don't you do that? I did it because he really spoke a language that I thought needed to be related to African American people here. Was this old disheveled white man from New England who's talking about universal healthcare talking about the crime of high your student loans talking about gross negligence of unemployment are all about jobs are being shipped out talking about the oligarchy of those who are influential amassing all of the wealth and the power and bolts were at the bottom remaining there almost in an invisible caste system. So we spoke a language of that. I thought needed to be articulated to the demographic of represent Georgia just completed a tight and difficulty like shin yes- which involved Stacey Abrams. Yes. She was vying to become this country's first female African American governor. Yes, hard-fought. Yes. Plenty of lawsuits. Yes. The struggle continues. Yes. It is the picture of open theft. There was nothing greater. In criminology, then a crime that happens in broad daylight in front of witnesses. But defying the system when you look at the onslaught of voter suppression that happened in Georgia in the gubernatorial election, it was reminiscent of nine thousand nine hundred fifty eight not two thousand eighteen and so we watched it happen. And so rather than this generation become disillusioned by the system. We've gotta be invigorated to say what are we going to do now because twenty twentieth coming in we roll over and go into a coma of consciousness, Donald Trump is going to have another four years. Here's the secret is that Donald Trump did not win because of boats, he won because of the number of people who didn't vote, and so we've got a year and a half to really beat the ground to say, let's come on and vote because we've got a whole lot at stake. What is it gonna take for us to work against being reactionary? But being proactive is knowing what is. Are gender. What are we asking for and realizing for black people in Atlanta that politics cannot be limited to a person if we only limit our gender to a personality will always lose. But when we have a political agenda and understand whoever abides by that agenda. Can in fact, get our vote when we talk about the social Justice space here. What do you intend to get the church involved in? Yes, again, my background is theology. But coming to a new environment Abdu anthropology, I don't really intimately know what the pains the problems and the perplexities of this community rather than raw data. And so this is an opportunity for me to really do a ground. Check and see where do you want the church to be I can't just helicopter in and drop down as a paratrooper and dictate. What is the agenda and need to hear it because there are some people on the ground who have been doing? The work who have been stirring, the pot. And so I can't think because of my position at Newburgh that I am now the designated spokesperson, but I'll look forward to working alongside of those who have already been in the trenches. What does it mean to you to be an activist to be a part of the movement? Yeah. It is in the words of an Atlanta legend Hosea Williams to be unbought and unbiased to be uncompromising and your conviction. And to know that consciousness never goes on sale. Babai baltimore. Hello Atlanta Super Bowl. Yes. It's coming here. We have activists in in Atlanta across the country who are in support of Colin Kaepernick protesting the Super Bowl. What is your stance on all of them? I was one of the lead mobilisers I took five hundred men to the football stadium in Baltimore. And we took a knee in the middle of the national anthem. I am presently for the second season boycotting the NFL because I believe that the NFL is now operating like a plantation that if you can exercise your right to speak your voice, Vanessa problem. I this is not a communist country is a democratic society in. So Colin Kaepernick should not be demonized for exercising. His constitutional, right. Yeah. He is doctor Jamal Bryant. A riveting speaker, the son and grandson of ministers you let the growth of. Empowerment temple from a few dozen to a report at ten thousand members many of them young people how how significant is it having the young people in the congregation is so vital. If you don't have young adults in the church today, they won't be a church tomorrow. And so many of our churches are becoming museums is old people. Having flashback memories of who they used to be in yesteryear. But you have to have the young who can carry out the work and the mission of the church in so many about ministries are losing it because worship is constructed to appease a sixty five year old woman and not in thrall a seventeen year old black male on. So we've got to figure out how do we craft a worship experience that is able to minister to both. How is it? Saying goodbye to Baltimore. It's sweet sorrow. I have been in the trenches. They are all of my life. But I realized that pain. Is consistent with change change is never easy. Most people don't like endings. They just like new beginnings. But in order for you to get to a new beginning, you have to end something think about how many people praying and crying, I want a husband. You can if you keep calling your ex you keep going back to the old. You're not preparing yourself for the new and so whenever it is that got pulled you to change get ready to be made uncomfortable, and what can be some of those kinds of change. Irritability restlessness misunderstanding and comfort. A got never anoint you to be a comfort zone. We'll never got called you. He calls you in. What you already know? What to do? God will never call you to do something. You already are good here. He'll call you into something where you have to trust him. So you can't go based off of your background or your pedigree. You've gotta step out on faith and say God if you get this. I'ma fail. And that's where it is that I am I'm coming into something. I absolutely don't understand. But I trust God. Even for what I can't see minister activist fighter for social Justice for all. He is none other than Dr pastor Jamal Bryant Babai Baltimore.
