What are Kenya and Somalia really fighting about?
"For obvious reasons the idea of an old fashioned cross-border dust up between two neighboring nations seems right now almost quaint and perhaps the kind of thing likely to prompt replies in the circumstances along the lines of at this point who cares or not now leads where a bit busy nevertheless despite the best efforts of covert nineteen the world will keep turning and its constituent countries will continue to but against each other from time to time in East Africa in recent days. Somalia and Kenya have gone very close to going to war with each other and may get close. Astill the battlefield is jubilant. One of Somalia's five semi autonomous states. It lies just across Somalia's border with Kenya. Kenya regards drew ballooned as a vital buffet. Re-Thinking Church Missions
"All through the history of the Church of Christ. There has been a ceaseless struggle to maintain the truth that is a quote from Alan McRae Twentieth Century Presbyterian Churchmen and Biblical scholar. He learned that quote firsthand. He was with J Gresham Machen as a student at Princeton Seminary in the late nineteen twenty s and when Mason left Princeton in one across the Delaware River over to Philadelphia to found Westminster Theological Seminary. Mcrae went along with them and a few years later in one thousand nine thirty six when Mason. Who was ousted from the Presbyterian church U S and he formed a new church the Orthodox Presbyterian church well McRae went along with him again. So what was the issue in the Nineteen Thirties and specifically in nineteen thirty six mccray is about this ceaseless struggle to maintain the truth. Will broadly speaking. The issue was liberalism and cultural progressivism This had been at work in the Presbyterian Church USA and many other denominations as well at the time from the eighteen nineties on through the roaring twenties. Mason battled it at Princeton and he was battling it. Within the denomination narrowly. Speaking the issue was missions in nineteen thirty to the fall of nineteen thirty two. A report was issued entitled Rethinking Missions. This report was then published fully in nineteen thirty three no fewer than seven volumes published by Harper again under the title rethinking missions. This project was all funded by John. D Rockefeller it had representatives from seven key positions on mission boards. In seven denominations participated. This document had two major parts. One was based on a fact finding mission and just spoke of the state of missions and the conditions of places three places in particular China and India. Japan were studied the second part raised new ways. That mission should be done and challenge the old ways that missions was being done in a nutshell. What this document wanted to promote was to advance spiritual idealism social brotherhood Economic Welfare and Cultural Unity. The rethinking part means that to think of missions as simply the Great Commission the Proclamation of the Gospel to every tribe to every nation that is too narrow and in fact has been wrong headed we need a different mission. Different approach that represents the realities of the twentieth century so missions needs to be rethought well. This deeply troubled J. Gresham mation. He saw in this and denial of the Gospel and he couldn't believe that not only did his own mission board of the Presbyterian Church U s not only did it not refute this document but it had key representatives. Who are part of it and were promoting it. This was also the time of the missionary. Pearl Buck in nineteen thirty two. She had just won the Pulitzer Prize. She was a very significant figure in American culture and she was a Presbyterian missionary. Who denied the Atonement of Christ the Deity of Christ the authority of Scripture and all of this just perplexed Mason and so he challenged his denomination. He wrote a one hundred and ten page pamphlet to go along with an overture that he introduced in his presbytery and he wanted the Presbyterian Church to refute this document. They didn't and so. In one thousand nine hundred thirty three he formed the independent board of Presbyterian foreign missions that eventually led to his ouster from his denomination and so in Nineteen ninety-six once he was defrocked he just formed a new denomination the Orthodox Presbyterian church six months later January one nineteen thirty seven. Mason died but his commitment to the church and his commitment to the Gospel was evident there in that action of standing against the tide of his denomination and standing for the Gospel. He did not want to rethink missions but rather in the twentieth century he wanted to reaffirm the mission of the Church and the Great Commission. Well that was mentioned in one thousand nine hundred eighty three. And I'm Steve Nichols and thanks for joining us. For Five minutes purchased

"But so they've already done this was listed as a process improvement. So in that case, he I think the leather smoothness is absolutely improved standards and quality control in terms of everything else. One of the things that Rawlings does regularly. I mean, they're even theory than they've been open about testing prototypes, particularly for improving picture grip, which I find interesting considering, I didn't realize there were pitcher grip issues before the season. But clearly some of the they were prototyping pitcher grip stuff in spring training. So I'd love to talk to someone from Rawlings about that. The length of the right out. They wanna have the sticky covers so that the don't have to rub the balls down with the Sproul kind of mud rights. So they're trying to develop something that will replicate that effect. Now. Okay. I have to do an aside here, frankly, that to me sounds like robot Pires. Can we just keep using the Delaware river, muddy the dawn? Gone wrong with the Delaware river. This river can yield the mud that we. I love it. Really? And. The mud sleaze, you know, just all the sameness, you know, the it's the game isn't about sameness. Excessively not you've identified what seems to be the explanations certainly sufficient to explain what we're seeing in so. The, the thing that's much more interesting. Honestly, is that the rest of it? The lower seems the, the rounder ball, also something we didn't go into which is the thickness of the laces, are actually back to that pre twenty fifteen thickness. So people like, you know, Marcus Stroman or Aaron Sanchez's unfortunately, probably now cursed with blister problems. But a lot of the guys who were getting blisters because of the laces. Oh, look the latest thinner. Again, we haven't actually heard those names getting blisters. So kudos to MLB for actually taking that seriously. But interestingly enough, that lay stretching thing doesn't look like it happened this year. The laces are thinner. But the ball is rounder, which seems like a contradiction based on the previous results. However, one of the things that I because I brought up air drying in that article in September, as opposed to say throwing your t-shirt in the dryer and the cotton shrinking back. I think what? May have happened. And again, this is this is a hypothesis on my part, but it would fit into the kind of process improvements that Rawlings has done historically, and that we have data showing, they do I think what they may be doing. Now is drying the balls under a hot air flow. You know, basically doing the equivalent of putting them in the dryer, because whatever's happening, the lace was are no longer stretching and the only way that you can get cotton to dry without stretching is to dry it with heat in Worcester will basically under hot air. But that also means though, is you're not gonna get that kind of deformation or bulging, you're the seams. And the laces are probably also just gonna sit tighter, meaning the same aren't going to be as high so that one process of changing the way you drive, the laces could explain all the rest of the changes. So having documented this in having these concrete explanations in theory, obviously MLB has read your. Work. I don't know. Whether they've done similar work themselves or with ellings has, but you've taken some of the mystery away from what's happening here. And in theory there, shouldn't be anything preventing an OB or Rawlings from undoing the changes that it did this offseason read add on whether that's a matter of saying, hey, make the balls lower-quality undo these process improvements that you did or, or whether it's just a make the seems higher, etc cetera. There shouldn't be, you know, if MLB decides that they want the home run rate to be lower now that you have explained why attire than in theory, undoing that should be possible. Right. If they if they decide that they want the game to look a little different than it does. One thing that does come to mind is I don't think the leather smoothness is as important as they think it is for quality. And in fact, we're, we're seeing that side effect already this season. Because we're now using the home the, the home. Run ball of. Homerun ball using the twenty nineteen ball. It's now also the ball and AAA, yes..

"Today hidden in the missed the Delaware river flows quietly south toward the city of Trenton. But on one cold winter night in seventeen seventy six these waters were anything, but quiet when George Washington made his famous crossing of the Delaware as he prepared to take the city of Trenton back from the British. It was Christmas day seventeen seventy six during the American revolutionary war, George Washington and an army of twenty four hundred we're on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware river they needed to reach Trenton on the New Jersey side, which was then in the grip of German mercenaries working for the British. Washington's army attempted to cross the river here. But there was no bridge at the time today crossing the Delaware is a breeze. But on that winter night. This quiet river was clogged with ice freezing. Gale blew would surface to the choppy waves and vocal ferries began slowly criss crossing the river carrying men supplies the troops fear. They could be knocked overboard for dragged under the ice at any time. But they all finally made it and stepped out of their boats onto the New Jersey shore. Is believed that Washington gathered his officers at this nearby house owned by the ferry operator. So they could plan their strike on Trenton. In the freezing predawn hours of December twenty sixth after staying up all night, Washington and his troops marched to Trenton in order to surprise, the German mercenaries who still had control of the city. Legend has it. But there were still in their bunks in these barracks recovering from their Christmas revelries the night before when the Americans came knocking by the time the battle ended the revolutionary army had captured nine hundred of the mercenaries all of Washington's men survived. To celebrate the victory of the now famous battle of Trenton a monument stands on the hill for Washington placed his artillery architect. John Duncan designed its Greenwich base. And one of it fifty foot high Doric column. Sculptor William O'Donovan created the bronze statue of Washington on its peak. He has shown directing the troops to fire in a battle. That has now considered an early turning point in the war.
