"Winner, two time, president of Costa Rica, widely seen as an international leader of peace now accused of sexually assaulting five women yesterday, we spoke with Emma Daly, one of the women who spoke out against Arias women like me who have this sort of privilege and the security to be able to stand up and speak out or to do. So because there are so many other women who reading aunt in that kind of position that got us thinking about this metoo moment and a version of it. That's now active in Costa Rica, our race as a director of a women's rights group in Costa Rica, called Perez del Olmo, are what did you think? When you heard about the accusations against Oscar Arias, your former president, I haven't stopped reacting we keep hearing more. And more different allegations over social media, and some are getting media coverage in general, this is not unlike what we've seen happening. The US are other countries were different forms of violence against women are increasing in numbers and getting more coverage when it comes to the way, we experienced that islands the way we've reported and the way we received Justice indications the offs have been historically against women. So I heartily wish recent events are a sign that those types are turning. So how is this playing out on social media are people sharing their opinions are women sharing me two stories at this point or may be under a different hashtag. That's then years in Costa Rica? We are seeing women sharing more stories related to Oscar Arias and their experiences with him. But we're also seeing women in general just sharing their stories. Some maybe for the first time we are seeing a lot of women coming forward in social media. We're not using the metoo hashtag the one that has gotten traction in Costa. Rica as that the krill. Or I believe you hashtag the metoo movement emerged in the US, as you know, a little more than two years ago, and it spread fast internationally was me to a conversation in Costa Rica, then when it started here, I believe that was in that puddle Eva conversation in organizations, such as mine or groups that already involved in women's rights that I think not thinking created such a large echo as it is right now when we are living something similar in our own context. Right. I'm curious to how does this healthy, Machiko culture and Latin America effect this conversation, or how has it affected the conversation for women in Costa Rica, when women speak up when they do this admirable act of courage of telling your story, they're being attacked to charge victimized unfairly scrutinized, we live in a culture that pervasively turns questions twice the victim and not the user, and we don't hear enough. Questions about could this allegation and be true. What does it mean? If this abuse take place, we do not hold the perpetrator accountable. So step back, if you would erase and just what is the level of sexual assault and sexual harassment and Costa Rica, how big a problem is it. It's hard to. I mentioned this problem with numbers because so few women come forward, we need to understand that context of Latin America, just recently, I believe it was Eugenia pizza. Lopez from the United Nations gender mission in Latin America was quoted saying that the issue of violence against women in general election, America's critical. It's the most violent region in the world because women outside of conflict concepts one of the main focus of my organization is sexual harassment in public spaces in in that area. We come that nine out of ten women reported harassment experiencing public spaces and seven out of ten women have been groped in the streets, women's bodies are. Still generally perceived as public domain objects and those statistics applies specifically to Costa Rica? Yes, those are specifically our country. So where does this metoo moment in Costa Rica, go from here? Do you think these high profile cases make people more likely to stand up and speak out like the Oscar Arias charges? I think that as you may be well aware Oscar is is a very prominent public figure in our context. So I'd like to believe as that it allegations are coming for against him. Any victim of sexual harassment out. There can say allegations can be brought up against him. Maybe I can my story against my abuser. I'm fifty cents. A message out there to other women saying even people in high places Tom be held accountable for their actions. So maybe I can share my story I raised in San Jose Costa Rica, she's the director of the women's rights group. Perez del Olmo, thank you very much for your time. Your thoughts. Thank you for him. It's the bane. Appreciate talking me up the accusations against Oscar Arias, obviously damage his reputation, but what does it? Say about the Nobel peace prize itself for that we reached out to Jody Williams. Nine hundred ninety seven for her work Radicati landmines. Here's jody. It's so complicated. Of course, I know Oscar. I I'm I'm not usually speechless. Believe me the Nobel women's initiative of which I am the chair is shocked. I'm sharks and since it is in court. We believe Oscar has the right to be investigated will watch the outcome larger than that though is the issue of women speaking out, and what happens to them when they do inevitably called liar's that they have some sort of nefarious goal in mind for me when Emma daily Human Rights Watch. And the other women spoke out in support of the woman who has brought a criminal complaint against Mr Arias. I think they're brave, and I think that it's amazing when women are willing to put themselves out there in support of other women. Well on Succi is not part of that Nobel women's initiative. We spoke with you back in two thousand seventeen when Myanmar's military began a campaign against the Roe hindia ethnic minority there and you had some criticism for onsang SU. Ritchie the de facto leader in mar here's that clip. She allowed the international community to hold her up as a beacon of democracy and the icon of human rights, I paid close attention to her actions since she's been the de facto head of government, and she is not acting like a beacon of hope for democracy in my book, nor is she protecting the human rights of all of the people of Burma Myanmar. So Jody Williams was you in two thousand seventeen notes not a great comparison. But both Oscar Arias and uncensored she has been widely criticised internationally, obviously for different reasons since winning the prize. Do you think that dilutes her status as winners of the Nobel peace prize in the case of unsung Suci, definitely in the case of Oscar Arias as allegations against him to me that's different in terms of the work. He did as a Nobel laureate. I think people confuse receiving the Nobel peace prize with suddenly becoming a sainted human being it doesn't recognize your internal being. It's a recognition of the work the U N or people you work with as in my case have done to try to diminish militarist tendencies in the world. And for sure Oscar Arias has done that in his life. And in that sense is deserving of the peace prize that does not change the fact that he is being charged with sexual harassment and assault. But the work. He did did help out a situation of Central America. Couldn't you say the same for unsung Suci though. No because it's not like she's doing something to an individual person. It is her entire being that she is lending to in my view genocide, the Rogin and being extremely hard. When people Colorado. The peace prizes about peace and genocide is not about peace. So I truly believe in her case. It's very different. I guess what? I'd love to know. Jody Williams is what does the prize that mean to you? And should it recognize strictly the work of the recipients and kind of nothing else? I don't think it is a morality prize. But I certainly would not want to see it be given to someone who is demonstrably immoral or amoral as in my case in my view of Henry Kissinger, which almost blew up the Nobel committee when that recognition went to him, by the way, it's interesting you mentioned Kissinger there does seem to be kind of inconsistency in the whole Nobel peace prize process. I mean, your work certainly seems worthy. But then you compare it with Henry Kissinger or an Obama who got it before he had really done anything as president. Or why Martin Luther King junior got one? And gandhi. Didn't are we equating the prize in its recipient with a kind of purity, I'm not pure when I received the peace prize. I did not become pure believe me. I am still the same fun loving Jody Williams, I've always been but the work that we did was worthy of that recognition. In Henry Kissinger case, I mean, he was clearly involved in the dirty wars of the southern cone ordered the Christmas bombings. Vietnam cambodia. How could you award a peace prize to that kind of human? And in my view in that case when actions are directly contradictory to what the peace prize is supposed to be about. They should receive the prize in the case of unsung Suci did not reveal herself until she attained power, hindsight is brilliant, and makes me kind of want to go and take the flower out of her hair. The Nobel prize committee currently cannot rescind an award. Do you know why that is? And do you think that should be an option in the future? That'd be a hornet's nest. Their mandate is to recognize people in or institutions that have contributed to peace in one way or another. It's not their job after the fact to go back and assess them and put them on trial. That's the international criminal court or public opinion. I don't think it's the Nobel committee's duty to take back the prize. But I think it would be very powerful. It would require certainly setting up requirements that must be met in order to resend the prize, theoretically are kind of like that idea actually Jody Williams received the Nobel peace prize in one thousand nine hundred seven and is part of the Nobel women's initiative. Thank you very much for.

"To have your child. Learn to be bad. Washington Examiner today, New Jersey, college overrules, its students bands Chick-fil-A as not welcoming enough. Get that folks. Get that. You know, it's true. The other day host thing going into Chick-fil-A. And I thought wait a minute. Hey, I'm a Jew. They welcome Jews. It's a Chick-fil-A. Then I thought I'm six foot four. They welcome toll people into Chick-fil-A have flat feet. The welcome people with flat feet. Yeah. I don't know my wife, and I got farther to gay couples kids. Chick-fil-a us on that one. That's quite a combination. You know, all these things, and then somehow or other they seem to let me in. Sean on the other hand who won't even start there. The. This is it's it's such a different America than the one. I was then I grew up in an worse in almost every way in some ways. It's better. There's no question. But most most cases the left is done. It's usual. Destructive job administrators at rider university. In New Jersey are depriving students have an on campus. Chick-fil-a even though the school students voted to bring the restaurant on campus. By the way, this is this is typical the left does not represent the majority. But they still get elected because they hide their leftism in most cases when they run. And because people don't understand what they're voting for when they voted for the left because the left, but the left the this, the minority dominates culture. So here's a perfect example, the students of rider university said, yeah, we won't Chick-fil-A on campus. But the president of the school said, no. The president vice president decided it might offend some people. May I offer a thought, and that is there is there were times when you are offended when people are offended when you are offended or I'm offended when it is just it is just an instance of narcissism, and there was no reason to take offense. The the owner of chick fillet supported Christian organization supports Christner organizations that are opposed to same sex marriage. Why are you offended you disagree? But why are you offended? I am not offended by those who were foreseeing sex marriage. I disagree with them. Fended the left does that all the time. They don't disagree. They get offended. Because immaturity is a hallmark characteristic of leftism. These people have not grown up including the president vice president of rider university president, Gregory del Olmo. And vice president for student affairs. Leanna Fenner Burg said in a letter to students last week, the Chick-fil-A is court widely perceived to be an opposition to the LGBTQ plus community. LGBT and q do not satisfy the the groups for which LGBT is. Supportive, really? A plus. Why don't they just thought that L plus? God the world we live in. So you are against it's an amazing how come none of the gays in my life. None of the gates of give courses for preg- university. The case I'm from me with find B to be to don't perceive me to be in opposition to their community. I don't agree with same sex marriage. I think marriage should be as it has been through all cultures and all of history and all time, male and female. Okay. Don't you? Don't agree. You have the law on your side. Now, thanks to one vote on the supreme court. Aram down the American people's throats. I mean that you have to admit American people were not supportive of it. But the law is the law. Okay. Fine. But how come? They find me. Not in opposition to their community. What is what does that even mean? Is there a heterosexual community? What is what doesn't go on a survey had gone out last year asking students to choose from a list of restaurants? They would like to see on campus. Chick-fil-a was voted number one. But the school sent out a second survey a few weeks ago when Chick-fil-A had been removed as an option altogether. We decided to lay to lean in the direction of creating a welcoming environment where differences can be appreciated, but they don't believe difference can be appreciated because of opinion is not appreciated. And we can expect to experience dignity and respect, but they get dignity and respect to Chick-fil-A. Is there? One gay who was ever not been treated with dignity and respect to Chick-fil-A. But the totalitarian mind of the left does believes that you are being disrespected if you don't agree with them. You get it. That's why thought control is inherent to leftism. You you have not treated me with dignity and respect. Even if you treat me with dignity and respect. They may they they main goal language deliberately. You a gay is treated with dignity and respect at chick fillet restaurant. But whether gay or straight after all, many straights believe in same sex marriage. Are they not treated with dignity? I'm just curious. If disagreement means that you are being treated without dignity and respect then it would apply to the heterosexual who is for same sex marriage as well. The restaurants anti gay reputation, such as it exists goes back to its history of corporate donations to Christian organizations and advocacy groups including ones that oppose same sex marriage. Chick-fil-a this year received the highest rating among fast food restaurants, the mid a population that overwhelmingly support same sex marriage. According to one poll from this may the American customer satisfaction index. Twenty eighteen. Found that Chick-fil-A got a eighty seven points out of one hundred based on a survey of twenty two thousand five hundred restaurant goers. This is the state of the university. You differ with us. And you thereby do not treat us with dignity. This is the university in the United States of America circa twenty eighteen eighty or if you prefer CE. One eight seven seven six. "One zero one point five is the number. We've been talking about Ryder colleges decision not to allow Chick-fil-A to operate on his campus. Even though the students wanted it there. It came out number one when they were surveyed what restaurant would you want? Here the chick fillet. They've got a problem with their perceived anti LGBTQ views Chick-fil-A is basically a Christian company since two thousand fifteen they donated a million dollars to the fellowship of Christian athletes years ago, and like the early part of the decade, they donated to some other places that I could get you the they donate two million dollars to groups that oppose same sex marriage. And this was two million dollars back in twenty ten. So, you know, they basically it doesn't really matter what they do with their money. It shouldn't really matter. How they feel what their viewpoints are. We now vetting every business. Are we now going to decide who we like and dislike based on you know, who they contribute to their political viewpoint. Their religion. One eight hundred two eight three one zero one point five how do you feel about this? I mean as far as I'm concerned Chick-fil-A ought to be ashamed of themselves. And basically prejudice. You're a Christian company. We don't want you what our campus. Dino, come off to me, his anti-gay as much as they come off it pro-christian profile pro family, but regardless of what they come off at what they do. Best is make a great chicken sandwich so much so that their students to beat we'll pay the tuition their money says we want them here. So you go to my Twitter. Follow me real Steve Trevor. Ronald says liberalism at work. Kobe. About that. Is you know, it's one thing we disagree at times. And that's okay. And I want to hear what you have to say in like in an educated back and forth discussion is one thing. But like, you don't call me and yell at me. Yes. And dash, and I wanna make and I want to clarify what you're saying. You've even listening to what I'm saying. And then I have to do the clarifying because I was here and lived through it. You know? Ios said they would discriminate against gays. No, he didn't. They never would say that. If anything Chick-fil-A is going to set up, and if you want to come you come if you don't you don't. And that's the American way. Glenn see, I think riders wrong because they are preventing an independently owned franchise and local business from opening on their campus. They're saying no to jobs or as a way to look at it as well. Lauren. I don't mind their waffle fries never been hostile to me as LGBT, but I wouldn't want them indoors this company. If my tuition in any way goes to them might object. But if they said, yes to them and LGBT people complained you'd have people dismissing my objection to it. How about this? They open up, and regardless of your sexual identity. If you eat there you eat there. If you don't you don't. Your tuition would never go. Yeah. I don't know where colleges are taking tuition money and giving it to their restaurants on campus. You spend your own money bills on the turnpike on New Jersey one zero one point five. Hey, bill. Hi there. Good evening. Another one of these examples where I feel that you know, people are pushing agendas where there's no business for this is a business supplying the man if the students want champion if you want to eat. If you don't I mean, so what you're going to legislate everyone's beliefs because I've long Chick-fil-A is complying with the law. If they're not breaking any laws the students want so much. See that's the thing. That gets me about it. You know, that's the station. It gets me about it. It's the students wanted it. I mean, it chick voice said we'd like to open up. It's one thing. But the the student the the university pulled students and the survey says survey says Chick-fil-A so should be simple as that. Okay. The people have spoken, and we're now going to give into our paying customers and put it there. Now, if there's a problem afterwards, you got a case if you're saying, you know, what they refusing to serve certain people or it's causing a problem. Now, you may you may have someplace to go, but the idea of vacation come wrong. Sorry. Good. And that would be against the law against the law to refuse service to people. But if I happen to be of a certain, faith, or whatever it doesn't matter if you have a product and don't show up to the restaurant. But again, it's a business. You cater to your pain customer at the kickoff enough people. I guess what? Noel show up and they'll go elsewhere. But that doesn't seem to be the chase. And again, why are we putting the park before the horse? Totally good. Good bill. Good. Ask for it. Amazing. Everyone's going to be paying the Bill. They want the restaurant. I like myself. I don't kill their viewpoints are because now you can take it another step because we are because of their values. Ship fillet does not open on Sundays. So what are you? Now. If you want to take a step further, you could say, oh, we want you. We want you to open up on Sundays now, even though that goes against the principles your restaurant. We would never stand for that. We would never force somebody to just something that goes against their, you know against their beliefs. Well, you know, what is it? Discrimination is it discriminatory not to allow Chick-fil-A because of their perceived as as a key word there disagreement that they have, you know, with certain people on the campus, you know, being the TQ, and that's what it comes down to Bill. Thanks for the call to New Jersey one zero one point five how do you feel about this one eight hundred two eight three one zero one point five is writing university, right or wrong. For all Chick-fil-A is fast becoming the third most popular fast food chain. In the country. So business is good. I mean, there aren't a lot of people avoiding Chick-fil-A. They were named the nation's favourite fast food restaurant for the third year in a row in this year's American customer. Satisfaction index is restaurant report. I mean of riders not going to let the students choose what they want. They never should've asked him in the first place. But now that they have is their obligation to let them have a nice grill Chick-fil-A club sandwich, or maybe some Doug. It's like governor Murphy would say it's the right thing to do. How do you feel about it? One eight hundred two eight three one zero one point five. Chick fil A be allowed to operate on writer the students took a survey. And they said we want Chick-fil-A the university said, no. They were removed is one of the options on the second survey based on their perceived objections to the L CBS OG btcu. And I don't even know that I don't even know Chick-fil-A took him to court would that even work. I mean widely perceived when you have to prove that they sent a letter.
