"A real it's a. It's a tall order to just out of thin air. Create new horse feathers. Thought for a while you have some kind of cross promotion reporter better is because i know a lot of people or some people at least a bit vulgar will also got the horses. That's very hard. I think the sports books are the waiter. Go to kinda glaama that. I think that that will make that'll be the easiest thing. Easy but the easy s. avenue to create numerous betters. Guys say jail. As we mentioned earlier the fixed odds betting gives horseracing chance to become involved in in this sports betting world and and perhaps piggyback off of it but i know the theme of the show is happy talk. I'm going to go against it. I think by archie have sports betting as something that's going to be potentially a big negative impact on horseracing. Because if you look at it from the beginning of the time whenever the internet started the only online legal wager you could make was a horse bet. Just like before lotteries and casinos spread the only wager you legally in this whole country was worse. So horse racing had this monopoly on online wagering. Now it's been taken away the you know it's ego state by state. I believe sports. Betting is illegal twenty states right now when it's all said donald illegal in every place but you know we're places like utah stuff like bad how horseracing compete with a form of away drain off sports. That are much more popular than horse. Racing thing worry about it and one. Dsp through that. If you get the guy that just graduated from college has. his first. Job has a little bit of disposable income and he's got like the gambling bug gambling gene. I think you had a chance to get that person into horse racing. Even if they're not a big fan you know go he rebounded along going to open up a a tv or something like that. I'm going to give it a chance. I don't see you know. This horse racing is a difficult time younger generations as it is. I think sports betting is going to make it all that much harder to get the twenty three year old who likes to gamble to gamble on racing when they had alternative abedi on the jets plus plus five we. I think that's actually the right line. Yeah i mean. I saw much of. It is gonna end on how much cross promotion across marketing. You can get which is not a guarantee is the racing needs folks a hell of a lot more than sports books need racing so that i think that is is is really the crux of the issue. But i agree that you know. It doesn't bode well. That racing did have this monopoly online wagering for so long in didn't really capitalize on it in terms of growing the business. I think that's a problem in that. That's kind of a bad harbinger for the for the future. But i will say that sports betting has you know it is legal. A of places now. It's no long. I know it's not everywhere but is no longer just nevada places where you can still bet are even now at least online betting sports and i don't think that racing's handle has noticeably decreased or taking a hit from that so i don't know that it's going to be this this kind of a disaster in there. They're just gonna crush us. But like i think a lot of it depends on what kind of partnerships you can create what sports Where maybe you get a little bonus or something. If you throw erasing bag into a parlay just something some kind of incentive to do just to get people to check it out because i still do think that if you get people in the door. They generally have a positive experience We'll try to bet it again. It's just it's about getting that point eventually for people and it just doesn't happen enough in it really hasn't happened enough's for a long time now so i just think that this is maybe the last chance that racing has if it's able to successfully integrate into sports books. Maybe the last chance that we have to get a significant new customer base. Whether or not that's gonna work out now we're going to have to see But i you know. I choose to look at it not just because i'm mr positive. Today i choose to look at it more as an opportunity at least until unproven raw. We're gonna see you know it's like you said it's going to be illegal everywhere eventually. But it's gonna take for that to happen if not a decade or more. I think these things move pretty slowly. I just we'll see we'll see what happens. I think it's an opportunity. Just wanna run down some of what we got going on this weekend. It's going to be hard to top travers day but we do a good weekend race coming up. Don't know where labour day came from just like this summer went by in the snap of a finger but we have a big labor day weekend mainly at saratoga del mar and then of course. Starting monday we have kentucky downs. Talk to ron winchell. On a little bit about that. It's very very exciting John's got some interest. They are a lot of money up for grabs big fields. Great betting products. But this weekend. It's all about saratoga. Del mar saratoga on on saturday. Four graded stakes to grade. ones jockey. Come gold cup and the flower ball. I actually didn't realize that they moved the flower ball as well. I knew the move. The jockey club gold cup saratoga this year but the fireable used to be a mile quarter to refrain of belmont announced the violence three eighths on the saratoga tour of course and i think the the headliner there is warlike goddess saw when the glens falls extremely impressively early in the media. It's like she's gonna come back to the flower bowl. So that's that's going to be very exciting and a spin away. We have spin away on sunday. You're hopeful the run. Happy hopeful on monday so to the first two grade ones for two year olds we also have the dumber debutante ended the run happy. Del mar thirty so four gray once. Total for two year olds on the weekend. Don't know whether it makes a lot since that for green ones on a single weekend but that aside they're probably all going to get pretty nice. Races are nice horses so a lot to look forward to their We got the goal cop. As i said bernard baru is over the weekend a on turf at saratoga. Just run down some of the horses that we might see over the weekend on the jacksonville golca or is it. I'm very very excited to see is for. dro Was a very nice horse. I've been high on for a long time for bill he won the discovery really impressively last year and then was off for i. Think seven or eight months came back with a really nice allowance when earlier in the meet at saratoga. This is going to be the first real acid test for him on a grade. One looks like matt's player is going to be in their happy saver as well on by my standards. Night apps for brad cox. "From the vet center at bally's in las vegas. It is semi final action in the national players championship. Good afternoon everybody and welcome back to a marathon session. At this point we will stay with you with some breaks but we will stay with you until eight either. A new champion. Abram pete champion is crowd rich a good afternoon. Good afternoon steve. And the butch cassidy and the sundance kid are back again for a third day and These marathon sessions are kind of funds. Steve i usually when my segments with. You're on the air. On thursdays amount for a few minutes but here on for captive audience seven. Plus our yourself whether you like it or not. You've got me well and we're thrilled and of course your contest. Experience you're gambling experienced journalists experience hit all works into a idyllic scenario in your home town. Yeah this is turned into my hometown. I'm originally from stanford connecticut but The last twenty plus years of my life. I've been here in vegas. So i feel like this is my hometown my new hometown now. And it's great to heavier steve. I know you get to travel a lot. More than i do but Hopefully you enjoy your visits vegas every year and this is a this is certainly a unique one and the the idea of leaving saratoga this summer where after last year we had this horrific Scenario where nobody was able to enjoy the racetrack. So to be out and and basically touring as what's happened between haskell at monmouth colonial visit which kind of impromptu then when we knew that. Nhcd was going to be here. Well we just had to. You know there was no question that i have people. How could you miss travers. well this is my you know my priority. I've been doing this now. Seven eight years and I wouldn't miss this time. So then then i saw the opportunity to go to dell mark the couldn't pass that up fantastic to birds with one stone in this year was so different than previous years of the nfc usually the tournaments in january or february The early part of the year and because of the pandemic. This had to get pushed back during del. Mar saratoga get something that we may never see again. I knock on wood. I hope we never see you. Want to toured to run. Its normal timeline. It's normal course. And then have the fall of the people qualify and then came out here in vegas January early february and We love having people come out. Then let's listen into pete ilo here's gulfstream four and we'll bring you up to speed where things stand after this race lavery desperate for hope sliding through the rail is katie's dream girl on the course and classy. Of course the trailer remains rossouw. Twenty two and three for an aggressive opening quarter speed. The pace off up front on captured heart leaves three parts of length. Alexandra is second at gonzalez's products and decisions for corey deciding where he wants to raise. She's third from the outside story. Help from between madeira wine sliding thoroughly lakers is looking like a queen. She looks like he wants to follow on the inside running. Katie's dream girl. Why don't they course. Classy of course still tobacco rossouw as they round the for turn up front and captured heart heavily league corey now given the green light and she's on the attacks second toward the rail looking like a queen third on from four. That's madeira wine. Story hoping katie's dream girl next top of the lane. Corey set sail for the money after three quarters in one ten and four. She's an eighth of a mile from home in three on top looking. Mike acquaintance rallied. Katie's dreamgirls trying to outrun madeira. Wine for third in deep stretch. Corey is clear with no dangers. It's corey front. Madeira wines going to get up for a second late. The head of looking like acquaintances in a photo for third with today's dream girl and a rossouw on thirty five flat. An interesting result a two one winner at the gulfstream in the fourth and monmouth had just run basically rescheduled the run together but monmouth ran first. And then gulfstream that leaves four races rich the woodbine fourth the ellis park third the saratoga fourth and the monmouth seventh as the remaining semifinal races as well as for the console tournament not as big a priority obviously as establishing the ten players that are going to make up the final table. And let's get you up to speed on that group right now. The leader after last night. Justin the starry of course who made that late move to eclipse jose arias. We talked to jose after Racing and concluded. Yesterday i saw him earlier at. He said he really did not sleep. he's just couldn't sleep and he ended up just handicapping pretty much throughout the night and into the morning at right now. Mma starry maintains the lead. He actually has four We'll see if he used their official at monmouth so he may have used the race at gulfstream. otherwise he's going to use four optionals is remaining four. They get ten for the twenty two races. That have been run this morning and into early afternoon. Chris goodall has made a nice move and he has got five. He had five optionals left. Which means i have to assume. He played the gulfstream raised. It's not official yet and he'll play the next four so goodall actually rich and interestingly. He held his hand basically until there was literally. I tweeted about it. There were literally eleven races available left. And he had i think nine of his optionals remaining that is a plane strategy on his part and i i can't say it was a bad strategy because with the ability to look at the scoreboard. See what you need to get done and then have all those bullets. All those optionals left to play. I mean they really puts them in a power position because he knows whether he needs to reach out for a big cap horse or if he can just kinda grain to way if if things haven't been exploding on the board what's interesting. is that goodall. Who finished last night. Third then he had trickled down to ninth while others were firing away then he is now reasserted himself and his added fifty one dollars essentially to his total so he's sitting second. Justin starry three twelve. Chris goodall to ninety five jose arias who also has all his bullets remaining. He must have played the gulfstream fourth. And now he'll play the last four races at woodbine ellis saratoga and monmouth the biggest move of the day and i just tweeted about it before we went on the air paul. Coffey started the day in thirty fifth rich. With i believe one hundred in excuse me one hundred and hundred and eighty five. I wanna say one eighty five way. Downhillers wail down the list and he must have hit nearly everything he's played and he said some of the prices. We'll tell you about those in a minute. He's at two hundred seventy three dollars. Excellent sitting fourth greg knepper Not not the not perform giants closer and starter To sick maybe it is Right was the was. What was never was greg.

"In edmonton and now century mile but The manitoba derby winner. You stop most always come run in the canadian derby so i always. I always watched the manitoba derby so this this year. We'll be no exception of course with the great promos that we have going on at twin spires around it. Yes definitely and yeah. I actually watched a little. My i i i of that Venue over the covert one of the track would run late at night and had some pretty good pools and found it entertaining. Some of their graphics were kind of retro will but aiding it that so yeah good. chuckled smile. I feel like one a track when they do an eighty s night next time like they should do the old like blue and yellow or blue and white graphics. Like you know that graphic when you're graphics package goes out and you just need odds of the book that we should. We should have an eight night words where it's just that like there's no sam machines it's only tellers. We all have to go through waiting in line and getting shut out again like just the real experience of the nineteen eighties at at the racetrack. Just look up at every track has the same graphics. Just in the top corner. It says a cynic boy or play fair or any of these other that would be cool to have other screens attracts. That just aren't around anymore. Like detroit. Race course run fair. did you. Shop the fair plex safety rail is at grants. Pass real little trivia for you there. Yeah that well a lot do because it was mentioned in the new york times article. But before that i think me and like twelve people knew right i was going to be one of privilege and the starting gate was the portland meadows. Starting gate report on meadows had a twelve gate. Where only ten so. They literally sought off to stalls creams. We we piece together down there. Can i tell you know. I feel like they. They did some nice work on the end to make it look like the end of the gate and think what they actually did. It saw it off to spaces and then move the end in. I think that here because it has like an end. Where you toe off you know do do the whole rizal but one good thing about us to like. There's no races at grants pass where the gate has to be moved during the race. Because it's a half mile tracks a lot of most the race starting to shoot and her just a lap around and then the six and a half start on the backstretch and so like you never have to actually move the gate. They always can start the race. And you know. There's not that. That hurry like i watched the video at colonial. The other day jill posted. We have like they put these. Would i think there would kind of like. Or maybe they're medal or whatever they are like these little flats on the course so that way. The gate can drive out over those and not affect the grass. Right where the start happening but like i always forget the during the race they got to move all those little boards and get everything right and joe posted a video of you know. I'm watching the horses. So i don't see everything that's going on with all that it's kinda funny to watch just everything that goes on during the race. That's not the race. I always miss that stuff as well. I'd like you. i don't have to have my eyes on it. You know On the horses. But that i tend to watch the horses race in It is interesting the stuff that goes on you kind of miss even if you're watching every race every day to play the starters guy i mean it's a a little fraternity to like. I know those guys are all are closed. A lot of work is valid and other spots and stuff like that so it's a good crew good group of folks. I remember we scott jordan on the show while back the the churchill starter and got talked with him about his team and everything like that so chiappa. Let's talk some some del mar saratoga and all that you did some kind of cool. I thought i'm guessing it's going to be a somewhat regular feature. Was we always get videos of people who you know who their pick is. You did a video for del. Mar think it was of horse. You didn't like an an auto toss for you in the horse. Didn't i think he ran. Third nine to five or two to one. Yeah the shops stayed. We started the play back. Then we add it to fade like a week or two later. They're the playback kind of you know. I do them right after the race. And then we re rewind on but the fades are kinda day before. I kinda come up with a horse. Send it over to the production team. And they do they're saying but Yeah i think that one was the cost basis horse the real well bred one that room. Along as who i was thinking of sir toga. Yep yeah realm of law. Wrong chad rounded but Yeah that was. That was the one that worked out. Well and we'll have Well it'll already have been by the time people here. This one will already have been a winner or loser. There's one thursday at del mar thursday card of the year. But yeah. I think it's a a little bit of a unique idea and we always talk about it. You know the sharpest and the best gamblers in the world. You know the first thing they do. Is you know identify. There's vulnerable favorite side. Maybe that's the race attack. It you know in the next you know whatever bit a bit of time. And so i thought it was a useful idea and the team took to it so Hopefully we'll continue to be successful but obviously we'll run into something. It beat us better overall winning proposition. But that's should be a lesson for all the horse push out sometimes. Those horses are gonna beach. But i mean to some degree like being against a low price horse like that is an opinion and it's a game opinions and we talk about opinions. I always say your tickets should be a reflection of your opinions. You know in the best structured way but you know not liking horse. it's nine to five. That's going to be on a majority of tickets and is going to be. Maybe a single for a decent chunk of tickets like that's an opinion. It's an opinion that can help separate you from everybody else even if it's just trimming you from three to in that race you're getting rid of a low priced horse. Your ticket cost is gone from one hundred down to sixty five. I'm going to rounding around. But you get what i'm saying No doubt about it. You bring up good points. They're the boehner. Bill favorite is. Is that import. Maybe even more important opinion in of what i'm trying not Educate somebody that's at a lower level than be in handicapping in wagering. I think and more wagering. But i think whether it's a horizontal or vertical wager. I think one of your goal should be to be able to tell a story. You know a quick story. Sure but why you're playing ticket. So for instance. If it's a pick for you know race. Seven and raised nine. I'm against the favorite the top two horses. I don't have a strong opinion. Other that Spreading race. I don't think the can lose singling. And then raise tat. You know whatever and then you have a story on why the ticket is being played and why it's worthwhile you go through and you can't really tell a story it's like wow race seven. I think it's the pew or you know race eight. I have no opinion. Well maybe that's not the right. You know maybe it'll be making the bat so I think that's You know kind of simple way to kind of figure out if bed as worthwhile and most of the time i stick to it you know. I make some action. That's more than i probably should. But i think those are the tickets that i most accessible with when i can tell a story yeah. That's it's really interesting. I was talking to somebody about the the all. Which of course is a never ending conversation with some people but they were looking at pick five tickets. Somebody was starting it with an all and you know ticket. I was fifty.

"Because i feel like i feel like people thought she was going to be like super just beast. I remember she was really highly touted going into the qe to and then she had that really nice win in the sheep's head bay and then kind of flop last time albeit over a yielding track. But i still can't hold out. Hope maybe the sources is is really good. She might be. It's hard for me to forgive the yielding car because she won overseas over a softcore couple times and maybe she wants a firm course my concern with her more than that. is just that i think a mile and eight might be a real shorter than what she wants to. You know having a punch to run these type of force it down but you mentioned that winning the sheets that bay and then even you know and quick q. Too but that even the belmont oaks which is her first year over. Firm course was very impressive. It was just a five horsfield. But she beat the likes of antoinette in there so it's a very very solid field. You know on automatic of group eight horses big announce. It'll be interesting to see if it's checked to make it Six in a row. This would be this would be sick. Exactly we'll be said earlier like he won one like seven or eight or nine years ago or something like that and then but since then it's been like five straight i think so. I think he's won six total five total but he's six total but he's going for six straight and seven total. I think that's the answer. And i'm gonna play against them. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm sure pay asia. And before i let you go of course you're you're also have golf shop and the the british open is this weekend or is it next weekend. No it's now now meaning. We're talking on thursday at most of the Thereby halfway through it's so crazy scheduling teed off at one thirty a. N. time let's go. I went from eleven three and five to six so far today. We'll see another hour our point but crazy out this week Always remember it. you know. it's always del mar saratoga. Open seems like the same week so a lot of excitement after a little bit of a lull. I'm a big fan of rolling out of bed and having some sort of sports going on like i like that i do. World cup. Warning is always a favorite of mine for that reason. Yep yeah. I don't know if i would. I don't know if i would want it all the time. I don't know maybe. Yeah maybe we like it because it's different kind of thing. Maybe if it was all the time. I don't know But i agree The del mar del mar starts. You know l. Ten eleven twelve hours after i wake up is a little bit rough to get stuff that is for for a west coaster and i know you live out there for a long time. It is so bizarre to like be eating dinner and the the back half of the early double is going off at dell marts. Just it will never not be weird to me. Yeah and then you get used to it. But it's definitely different than hey. I mean i i i love it here in kentucky love my role but there's no doubt both places but especially since i work you know without their living spent so much time there. It definitely you know I is is a time of year where i wouldn't mind being in a couple different places at one fun. Yeah i hope Dole markets valence parking. Figured out to that was always a critical part of the Chappel catch up with you next week. Pal have a good weekend youtube. But we'll catch you guys right after this short break. "I don't follow the clock reports and all that kind of stuff. Are those races that you will go after it. You sit back a little more on those. I think for the most part i probably sit back a little bit more but you know every once in a while. I get a strong opinion. You know you'll have these two year old steaks and i'll have a horse that comes back for one of those races and i really like it and Those choices can be sometimes real competitive sometimes can be real. Chaki depends obviously. But you know there's a. There's a level of excitement that in my mind You know Centers around these two year old events whether it's maiden races or stake races in saratoga. So i'm not like there there. I agree with you. There's there's a little bit of unknown and perhaps it's not like the the the the braces look most ford abetting. But i'm excited to watch those and sometimes i will You know Invest in throw down on on on material for for handicap in those races Also talked a little bit yesterday about you know people talk about the graveyard. Favorites are always forget which one it is if it's graveyard of champions gravy two favorites but you hear both equally people mentioned it but i think part of that is you know. It's wildly different than belmont. And you're you know you're kinda handicapping a lot of these horses who've come from belmont and it's completely different circumference and the turns are all different surface different everything like that. I wonder i feel like that's part of the reason why you can get some some more upsets at saratoga. Sure they don't run a mile sixteenth on the dirt. They're not running these mile or milena sixteenth. third grade. They gotta go a mile and eight to go to to turn and yeah and all those races run a lot of mile and eight braces but even mom eight a beaumont. They're all one turn there. So i it's a different completely different circumference speed. The the turk courses. Are you know to me like One thing i want one place. I remember when saratoga i started offering turf sprints and it seems like you know it's probably 'cause belmont so much bigger and wider and sweeping but i do think outside posts are more favorable and tercero saratoga than they are a belmont. So that's one thing i'm always sort of paying attention to and been able to catch a couple tickets in the past Playing against them Short price sources from inside. It might be able. Yeah i i know a lot of people will say that and and also the other thing is people like speed on the inner turf. You know the the turns tighter so you like you lose ground. You're almost feels like you're losing a little bit more. And so there's i think there's a lot of intricacies in there and all of course excited to to watch iowa opening day. They took one race off the turf. I know they moved another one. But i think for the most part They're ready to go. And i know that rain is a possibility. They're all weekend so it's you know that's one tricky part about saratoga. You gotta pay attention to the weather there big time. Oh yeah definitely and it can change in one a lot of times. They're you know you can get like a light shower. Or whatever and other places but it's their toga. Sometimes fights storms come in and they trench to place quickly and they pass on out but Yeah definitely Like today's a good example. I know we're going to be on after they got all these turf races in. The weather's a little bit of a question mark. I know they've already now. It's one races off the turf. Another racism is switching from the one of course to enter to the widener. The otter and see you always painted into that. Always wanna give del mar little run. And we're gonna talk to shop here next tuesday. I know doing some work for twin spires on del. mar del. Mar get on your radar much or do you become very singularly focused during the summertime. Yeah the I definitely like a dome are as well. And and you know. I wrote the advance for the Oceanside on the opener. And did the advance for the san diego on saturday so i i sort of glance through both those cards already and they got a great deal. I mean they got like a row butts opening day program. I i wrote in my piece In ten races as they average eleven point four entrants per race and then they come back saturday with another solid card so they got they unnoticed like horses in their from gold stream and other venues that they've attracted out the del mar this summer. So yeah definitely going to be paying attention you know. I mean i've been to del. Mar a few times and love it as well. Not as many times search toga anywhere else but I i love places. Yeah i said on yesterday. Show if he asked me where if i had to go spend a whole meet at saratoga. Don't worry i'm choosing delaware for a few different reasons. I know that's not everybody's got their own thing. It really doesn't matter. They're both awesome I haven't looked at the san diego. Yeah we're gonna talk about that a little bit later but those inside to me is such a fun race every year like the. I love that. They got some years. They used to split it in two ten or eleven each race. Yeah -actly and it's neat because they run fourteen fourteen on the overnight. When i first saw that i was thinking okay to also eligible and then i look at it and i'm like oh that's right. Yeah run on man You know that race. You know one thing about the california racing especially at santa anita this past year sleeve played in practice dominated Standings and you always have to be aware of them but Del mar you know. It's more competitive. Obviously at least it's opening weekends. Cards are I like that for tertio a little bit in the inside from mandela You know he he. He broke his maiden sharply at del mar last year. I thought he ran a good second in the single terry back in april. Coming back off a frustrating. I was surprised that He was listed at twelve to one on the morning. Live patricio. all right well. James this show will come out before the oceanside so to check that. We'll hope i hope good del. How are you doing. well jason. How dotted your voyage. Go to The virginia area it was it was good. It was a drama free drive day. It was eight hours through the beautiful eastern kentucky and wester west virginia hills and then into virginia so glad to be settled down. Glad that i have to drive anywhere for a little while except for out to colonial which is a half hour in and of itself. But you know. I can deal with that. It's the it's the forty four hours from oregon tampa that one. I'm excited not have to do for a couple of months. Yeah and the thing about the thirty minute drive after all the drive where you doing. It'll feel like ten. You know. I i was talking to someone about this recently. I like the kind of a half hour. Forty minute drive after work has a kind of lets. You compress a little bit. And it's the other thing here is like it's the you know we're driving through the country so it's not like i'm stuck in traffic like that's different like a forty minute drive. Traffic will make you want your hair out but the the night after a long day at the races grueling five and a half hour shift i want a A little break.

"Weekend for return to the studio. Apparently the schedulers of the of all the race tracks in america didn't really want that to coincide with this triumphant return but we did have the belmont oaks and the derby over the weekend. And and the big story with aiden. O'brien winning both races. The other big story was winning. One of them a progeny of galileo who unfortunately passed away last week one of the most influential sires of the last twenty years across the world. We're gonna talk to kelsey. Reilly i think in a little bit about him and his legacy but it wasn't. It wasn't a super exciting scintillating performance by either them by By bell show bolshoi ballet or santa barbara. But you know. I one of the things i like about that. The new the advent of the belmont turf festival stars and stripes stars turf festival is the way it attracts european participation. I think that you know any any time. You can make the us turf racing. More attractive to european connections into global connections. I think that's a good thing. And it just continues with the pattern of of you know the developing nature of of american turf racing and how it becomes a larger and larger part of the racing landscape as a whole. But those those are the two big results over the weekend I wonder if you've got any any thoughts about them. But also about the upcoming weekend which we're gonna be treated to the start of saratoga and del mar Saratoga starts tomorrow del. Mar starts on friday. We're going to look forward to that as well. But any thoughts from you guys on the belmont races or on those two meets well first of all. Forget the haskell on saturdays from elliott ocean port new jersey. Let's start off with the the racist over the weekend. Yes of course. The story was eight. No brian you sorta downplayed the performances. I was more impressed by them Then apparently you were Both horses didn't have terrible trips. Kind of difficult trips having to find room Slow pace etc..

It got gentrified and it is now what it is but there was great history behind it and part of it included. You know some of this type of element that we're talking about it that actually like some charm to it you know it no doubt no doubt and One of the funny things about the conversation. That is most appealing about attend attending races and and going places for meets. Whether it's del mar saratoga keeneland just brought up oaklawn and the people that that have got richer walls to go to certain weekends at at whatever venue you know. I've i've gone to about four four three or four of the last Risen star weeks in new orleans. You you get into those habits. And i can also relate this to you know working Carolina barbecue at saratoga those ten years and it a certain people coming either every weekend or every thursday or You know coming for ten days and one of the things that may not be so easily recaptured. We're not exactly the same. I'm sure you know. Maybe you don't i. Yes, Saratoga del Mar.. Finished for the year but that's not why. That's not why it's such a difficult. It contributes. It's a difficult day that one of the toughest of the year because it's the first day of school and. That means that means I gotta get Tina Up. at six and six fifteen, you cannot possibly imagine the misery. That's involved I. It's. Honest to God I it's like having. Like having a teenager. Moaning and the. Fifteen more minutes. I mean come on. Having not raised having not raise the child of my own I. Guess I I guess I can live with. With this experience. I'm telling you. A. Then she screaming where's my coffee? But then by the time by the time, we got her out the door. She was she was moving. He was moving. You know who's moving smoothly. It's you know it's like an older gelding. That the ascend out there and the first time around you know kind of working out the kinks and stretch it out and. Shaking, the chicken, the shoulders, and then then nice and smooth the second. It'll take a couple of days. Serious to nineteen, except to award sports on night sixty four if you're listening to series Xm online and at our website as well well I indeed. Yesterday. Brings to a close. As Really As intense afford days. As I think we've ever really experienced, right Because there's never been anything like it. When you when you grafted? Oaks and Derby. Onto Labor Day weekend I I this was this was really. I mean you. You better have eaten your wheaties They have gotten through this and. By the time. The time those races were rolling around at the late races. Del Mar I had had enough I mean I was really. Little. Little frustrated by. The Saratoga Empire six the which was far from impossible but plenty. Plenty difficult. And twenty thousand dollars if you got through it. So. That you know that a deserving return we'll get to that I mean there's so much the yet to to get to. The. One of the more amazing stories. Yes. Just yesterday I. Mean I haven't even we haven't even waded through. That we got the little bit of the Guess we got a little bit of the Sunday stuff done yesterday with. with Mike Stadiums visit and and also with Baffert. He just listened to me I could have gone another half hour with Baffert but. Princess Noor, and Pixel late on. Sunday but. Really, the story of yesterday. As part of you know the traditional. Season Enders. At del Mar Saratoga, the to grade ones for the boys. I the hopeful. And then. In late later in the evening few turney. and. We'll talk about. Jackie's warrior was spectacular. I mean that that was jaw-dropping honestly the to just blow away. The of the other two major players and do it with such ease. That's what was stunning. And then. Dr Shovel which is a a kind of a bittersweet story and I probably we probably won't get to Louis Mendez. Today. But it was the last start for. Dr Shovel. In Mendez's barn. And Hammer. Has told you about Mendez and his ability to prepare young horses and and his really his. Hallmark is bread and butter. and. The the the horse is going to go to. Mark Latte. Now and the the by in what what you know the private. ACQUISITION FOR A. Controlling interest to Red Baron's barn and Rancho to Moscow. For Mendez. His first grade at stake would have any kind. He'd one other stakes in first grade stake win. And it's a great one. I made the no to that. You know he's he's only he's only been out training his name for three years but. First Horse that. Has Broken the hundred thousand dollar mark for him in earnings and. There's a lot of there's a lot of horsemen out there. We talk about this. There's a lot of operations that they're doing this. They're getting young horses together whether it's for clients or some that. Horses for whatever reason didn't necessarily sell through, and so you get them started and they draw the interest the and. That very good way to. Make a living and and. Then score actually so I I know some people were like, oh, it's too bad it. Yes and no I. mean it it yeah it's a little too bad but Mendez I'm sure just thrilled and we'll look forward to connecting with him. Not Maybe late today, but I would guess it's always tough the day after Saratoga and and del Mar rap Bob and then of course in Kentucky. There's the had there's the added wrinkle of the sale tomorrow and Thursday at phasing, and then of course, everybody getting ready for Keeneland next week. So there's all kinds of added mayhem and we'll talk to Brad. Cox. So we missed yesterday Brad's going to join us in exactly eight minutes right at nine fifteen We'll get fifteen minutes in with Brad Cox before he goes back to the sales grounds and continues to shop, and of course, you heard Baffert talk about it as well as they scout out. This crop of Eurlings. On that topic. Back to yesterday's headlining story. And it's. You know it's our. Our Sponsor Kentucky farm that. Hill and Dale. Is the story. Jackie's warrior by Maclean's music. Dr Chevelle by violence that's a remarkable double. As two. Stallions. Under twenty, five, thousand, each. Violence has had a spectacular year obviously. But for Maclean's music the very nice. Really a very nice. Score at at. A perfect the time leading into the sale and especially because. And then from a personal note. We've got. We've got the Mcclain's music that we're partnered up. With Dave Scanlon and Marty Shapiro that that Maclean's music we talked about it some odium and doing great at Belmont and preparing for a debut. So we've got a Mcclain's music's were excited and excited. From, that performance ninety fire by the way I. If you hadn't seen the number of this is a two year old posting a ninety five buyer it doing it. You know not that geared down means anything This is for the robinsons Kurkin Judy. Rogerson and. Wow I mean, just a UH. Literally A. Popping performance and in a lot of ways Dr. Shovels Win and. The horse BAFFERT's that Spielberg we ran good read. Good. But you could tell if you just heard if you just listen to Baffert just now you could tell he knew that he wasn't winning he he was very respectful and and and you can tell if the you know basically. Was Acquiescing to Dr Shovel, but Spielberg re nicely to be second but Dr Shovel clearly best and a.

"So I I look at the race as. Knox I have Knox against what then knocks against New York traffic I did not like Honore P. Seven Furlong workout, Downli? No other people had a totally different opinion. I thought Mike had to use hands in heels to get him to do what he did, and even that wasn't that impressive I know you don't want a big workout a week before, but even its last week I wasn't that fast I know he s domino get the minor chord I just don't know if he's quick enough. So I knock on him to of the horses in the Derby. That I think represent value obvious. It can give them on and he's In danger of becoming the sky hauch. Let me interject I've been I've been holding off on bringing this up because he missed training this morning and via is good. Advise by late this afternoon what his status is. So there's his a little. big clout now over can Guillermo says, it's a minor said it's a minor thing but he said they're going to monitor it all day and we'll have an answer apparently you know by the by the time racing wraps up here today. So everybody can kind of watch. So I think you know the this is this is one of those things that Johnny Dean used to say. There can't be a hiccup and this feels like a hiccup for King Gmo as if there weren't already plenty of question marks about a horse coming in off of a four month layoff. Yeah All right. Well, that's that's that's too bad for its connection I feel bad for them that they've had plan and everything seemed to have gone well, and then something happened the other horse that's Kinda under the radar. That would not surprise me to get into the GIMMICKS. I don't see him as a win threat is a solid allante. And I and I thank when being cone sticks to the training on turf running under and his last couple of turf workouts. Palmetto. Fifty seven come on screen. Spectacular. And you know patrick is that good a horseman to? Pull it off. So I think he'll have him ready for the big day. Some of the others I just questioned if they're going to get ten for a once and the then nice nine furlong courses I don't I don't buy baffled thing about the horse authentic losing focus and. He. He was slowing down and the traffic was slowing down a little bit less than making up some ground. Yeah. I don't I. I don't disagree on that on that front and I. You know I think there's a very narrow band and approach. It's just a question of WHO. Particularly, the horses from off the pace I, mean Who Comes running late to? Fill out those exotics as your reference and for me for me, I know enforceable is going to be. Going to be one of those that I kind of key in. The underneath slots the proverbial. "The Count Fleet and then that fun day at Pimlico the Maryland Sprint. Five Straight and that was awesome. I mean that's Me Being a fan of the sport I love to be at the big races. I you know that's where if you're in this game you WanNa win the big stage and you win Races that people recognize the names. That's that's my goal and to be to win that race which was an old rate when the the Phoenix and the forego. An Account. All of these are you know their rates as I'm not saying that the the Pegasus at Gulfstream doesn't mean a lot. I mean obviously with the financial implications that race and the one in Saudi Arabia or Dubai. They all mean something but to run in the races that are old and you can recognize you know great horses winning that that means something to and I was very proud of that because I wanted to win on that day. It also you go through that group races and it also indicates the of horse that that he really is and his makeup. Because I'm jotting these down as I scroll through and and look at this because after Pimlico you went back to Belmont on Valverde third and the true north then to Laurel for the Francis to Keeneland for the Phoenix which he wins then the Breeders Cup at del Mar and I think if I add in Saratoga For later and I think that is then of course the Breeder's cup sprint at Santa Anita third Last fall so here it is churchill downs Delta downs oaklawn acquiesced pimlico Belmont Laurel Keeneland. Del Mar Saratoga. Santa Anita are the racetracks at which he's competed good one. If on Iraq's a good rate we might neeson. I don't know if you if you were listening. Sometimes you're sitting in the truck During training did did you hear when it's got the young on last week and I was going to bring you up in case in case you grew up in in pretty close? Otis wrote a thing up on on Saturday laid out some some stats and they were actually largely positive and largely evidence of opportunity with that and my counter. My counter to the maiden degraded steak discussion was well in this era. It's not as if horsemen have. It's not as if horsemen have a lot of options. I mean you you you just at this time a year into the into September. Let's say beyond the summer meets Alice del Mar Saratoga. If we're talking premium two year old prospects. Where else are they GONNA go? It's not like they're running a ton of allowance races. I mean there are some but if you've got a good one you're you're going to go into so I don't know how how I don't know how much evidence there is it'd be. I think you'd have to really dig in. There's a lot of people who just take advantage of that free offer which his find but You know hopefully at some point they make some money and want to get more involved the game so I have ultra altruistic angles for for putting the product up for free late today. I do want people of that and I do want people to cash and I do want people to come away from the game with a positive attitude and warming the wanting a little more. Yeah exactly the on that and I'm delighted you brought up the book because we're at about in fact we're actually. I'm a little a couple days late. The probably a weekly usually the first week in December we do our our book Suggestions as last last minute Christmas shopping support and your book is always on that list You know if if you've not at all if you've got if you've got sons daughters friends anybody that is learning the game and is waiting in stake in an interesting Chris. The people that you brought to the del Mar Saratoga keeneland. Whatever it is that you know would would like to take that next step APP Richest book is really that that kind of template for introduction to the game and I it really. It's it's more than just for. I know that the the dummies series Makes it seem like it it. It's for people that don't know anything thing. But if you've got you know the basic understanding I it's probably even better because it fills in some of those blanks and helps people get to the next step in their in their acumen learning curve. I agree with that. I know one thing that I've had conversations conversation with people of the block and even just you know veteran horse players see tons of 'em hardcore or players in town is sometimes.

ninety five years old cover the Superbowl covered horse racing covered golf and nice little tribute to him and then we're gonna start off with taking a look at what took place yesterday at Saratoga and reminder giants unbelievable game last night they were trailing forty two in the eighth inning and then also scored eight runs they'll be back in Oakland today to play the ETS and it would be a pre game with Larry Krueger Marty lorries off this weekend Larry cougar will be taking the up to the giant game at one OO five and of course the forty Niners look good winning that last night and so you keep that right here on came the are you get all your forty niner and giant coverage it was a a big win for the giants so last night after they have would down forty to earn a losing streak and they come up with eight runs and pull that victory out now will be into the final week of racing with Labor Day being the closing day four del Mar Saratoga and will be wasted also next Monday on Labor Day all right let's go to the Travers and then we'll look up with Dan element around the far turn it is Tacitus in front on the outside is mo Jo goes to taxes are going to half off of them highest honors is next in code of honor is now making his move and he's closing on the outside Tacitus has been put twelve foot Dr mo Jo goes dole told of honor is gaining ground on the far outside doors just coming down the center in Dalin highest honors so they're into the final furlong voter Joe Costa and you can only called John Velazquez well I'm not writing any drivers so that's one second was mo Jo goes stolen cars at all and Dale the final time of tool one point five it was cold waters day and that was a voice I'm sorry to that Larry Combest now let's welcome Dan element to the show good morning Dan good morning Sam how are you very exciting Travers day and a code of honor deserving winner yes it and they put the blinkers on task asis and looked like he was running well and control the situation but you have to get that final stretch and that's when as for in that John black was the hall of Famer went went to work on code of honor and that winning going away by three and a code of honor the fourth section Abbas winner for the great should negate he John Velazquez headache a yesterday in Saratoga several stakes wins any understands potential track bias perhaps better than anyone riding in York right now well this certainly get Saratoga I don't think you inside is been especially good and I don't really think the whale was very good yesterday yes it is surprisingly was aggressive even with the blinkers I thought they were more focused and speed captions for a lot more speed when not the expected pacesetter looking at the king didn't break very well and tax from the far outside wasn't able to cross over and make the front to cancer descended upon believes mucho Cousteau the back for trade runner on the outside and they tried to stay off the inside but they were close to the rail John Velazquez kept court of honor in NYC well off the rails very white distraction then you got to get code of honor credit for finishing it off this is of course that just seems to be blossoming at the right time a human well in the Kentucky Derby could get a place in the police he was placed second get disqualification he wondered why are he's won the traverse he's obviously a major player in the three year old division that is desperately searching for someone to take control of the maximum security all right and then where earlier in the day had a lot of grade one stakes races including the the for go in race number five I'm a totally it's just become a super sprint to right now we had a seven race win streak snapped in his most recent start to Vanderbilt but that was a day it's our togel were you broke from the rail in English is mired on a rail all the way around the racetrack and he didn't show his best he showed his best yesterday afternoon you push promises fulfil do this time was down on the rail promises were filled backed up to finish last we totally took over on the stretcher never gave anybody a chance despite giving six pounds to the one about friends a fire on the totally an imperial can seem like they are on a collision course improvement of course taking the measure of Napoleon the Vanderbilt of the store to the best sprinters in the country at all just US mustn't frighten the totally on this role winner of the met mile and now before well we had the three or four horses on the wire and the grade one race the Allen Juergens and prevailing by a nose over I was mind control over hog creek hustle who was a nose in front of fans a lot who was a knack in front of a row eighteen yeah this race was falling apart at the entrance wound was hoping to prove this is one twenty one Beyer speed stick your performance in the local preparation the Amsterdam was no fluke and this time he was able to make the lead again closer to the inside which may not have been the the place to be at Saratoga yesterday he had a clear lead this time out at the three sixteenths baller look like he was going to be another arts on winter on the court perhaps you found this seven furlongs just a bit too demanding because he hired me noticeably inside the sixteenth pole.

"The in the mid the mid the mid January cau- state stakes are not the greatest gets better at the end of the end of the. Into the month to have some gouged races scheduled in the Pegasus day comes up, and then it picks up a little bit. But, but that's what we have out here in California. And that said I'd say it's fun looking starting to get back into handicapping and looking at different things and starting to follow it a little bit closer. But what even though I'm looking at the same horses in the same that I have been for years. I'm looking at it in a different way. But I don't I don't know as much don't I don't remember this guy coming in screaming about not being able and wanted to get in all this. I mean, I had too much information. I mean, it is look at a horse new. Remember that right? This race didn't go last week. He wanted to go in here. Whatever it's an easier spot or this Reiner didn't wanna ride that Schertel. It's actually I've just been kind of cleansed a little bit. And it is amazing. Just I see a lot more. I see a lot more than I did before. Because they had stuff that. I just I didn't wanna. See? So it's I'm really I think until I get back back working here shortly. I'm really enjoying handicapping now. And you know, playing a few raises each day to get back into it. And and it's amazing. You know, the stuff that you've learned over the years about handicap is actually coming out now, and I just don't have any preconceived notions going into to the races that may that used to have. So it's pretty wild. It's a kinda opened up a new cycle going back to the way it used to be pretty cool for me anyway. Well, and there is there is that that element of of getting to a point where you have too much information and in nowhere is that more evident than at the teak meets in Medan special spots during the summer in particular del mar Saratoga Keeneland and you get those races, Rick where every single. Course in the race. You you've heard something about the they'll be ten horses and eight of them are the fastest in the world. And you know, this is this is the spot. We've been we picked this out months ago. And we knew right it, it's ridiculous. And and. You get to the point where you'd rather just net all that out and just look at it from pure handicapping. Let's look at the pedigree's. Let's look at the workouts. And, you know, do it that way instead of said of having heard about EV seven out of ten hours. Well, what you really realize that nobody really knows anything. They know they are they know everything and nothing at all. And you know, you get sucked into it. And it's usually is the last person that you thought to that you go it. I mean, there's a there was a there was a a line in the book somewhere where basically, you know, you're going to go. The guy was going to track them somehow, you know, bigshot owner was going to the tracking. It was going to bet on the, you know, the four hours, and it gets there, and he gets the shoe shine shoe guys. Hey, what about the five going to the winner of the five shoeshine guy told them the five because he thought he knew more than you did. So that's that's what that was one of the first things I got caught in a game of thanks. Nobody knows more than you do on quote inside information. I mean, there's that are handicappers obviously than anybody else. But and not to say once in a while, you don't get push from someone that you out of the blue that. Well, never says a word, then those are the ones usually go. But yeah, it is funny on those two year old races were. Yep. Everybody. With the different horse and blows your mind. So. Nice nice weekend. We didn't touch on the maiden race. But I will mention that you got a group that caught my eye that downhill, I hope, you know, hope it it stays together. And we don't lose that race because the personal favourite..
