It's going to cost you more to mail a letter next year. The postal service says its finances are improving that warns it remains in a financial whole and plans to raise postage rates in January, postmaster general Louis DeJoy told the USPS board of governors in a public meeting Tuesday that if the agency fails to take action, it will lose 60 to $70 billion by 2030. "The United States Postal Service lost $4.9 billion last year. $9.2 billion in red ink in 2020, we could keep going farther back, but why? You get the idea, the post office loses money at a blistering rate. I should say here, full disclosure, they do spend part of it on us. They're an underwriter of this program. The postmaster general Lewis DeJoy continues to push his controversial ten year turnaround plan consolidating and closing branches, cutting hours raising prices and slowing down delivery that would affect what the agency calls the fringes of its network. Others call it rural America, where the postal service is often the only delivery game in town. So marketplace is van amar, took a trip out to those fringes. 30 miles of red dirt roads connect U.S. highway 5 50, tutorial, New Mexico, home to about 300 people on the eastern edge of the Navajo Nation, and to a jewelry studio owned by JJ otero. Southeast stance have little designs and the tips of them. So that's the one I'm looking for. A tiny room on the far end of otero's trailer has just enough space for all his tools and materials for making high end jewelry. He's using steel stamps to impress a peely pattern into a sheet of silver. In this case I'll use a smaller hammer and use more of just a Tapping Tapping technique. 5 years ago, otero left his IT job in Albuquerque and moved home to care for his aging parents. At first, he wasn't sure he could support himself as a full-time artist, but by promoting his work on Facebook and Instagram, he's found clients all over the country. I just sent off mailings today. Some went to Portland, Oregon, others went to Louisiana, Kentucky, Phoenix. But that's not easy. For me, I have to get in my truck, drive half hour, one way, one hour round trip to drop those pieces off at the post office. Intership via UPS or FedEx, he'd have to drive all the way to Albuquerque. Two and a half hour round trip. The postal service is founding mission was to serve rural Americans that commitment got harder to fulfill as the country got larger, and today the post office has lost a lot of business with the advent of email and ecommerce. Jonathan he'll addict with the center for rural affairs, lives in Craig Nebraska, population a 199, where he says people rely on the post office to receive their medication to pay their bills to keep their small businesses afloat. Rule communities depend so much on entrepreneurship. When there aren't jobs around you, you create those jobs and you need the postal service to be there to be consistent to be reliable. But postmaster general Louis DeJoy says the postal service, which is a current underwriter of this program, needs to stop losing money. Hence his ten year cost savings plan, Ladakh says the agency's business model is worth a look. It's really important to steward taxpayer dollars. And I'm not saying that taxpayers should be bailing out rule postal service. But we know we're using it. We know it improves our quality of life. We know we need it for the basic necessities. On the fort birth old reservation in North Dakota, twyla baker, who heads up the tribal college, says the post office is a place where the community comes together and shares information. In the absence of widespread Internet access. That's where you're going to find the notice is posted for romance sales. Things of that nature, you know, somebody selling a car, that's where they're posted. Not to mention mail in voting is popular for folks who might otherwise drive an hour to their nearest polling place. If we were to diminish their ability to vote by mail, then we are essentially cutting a huge portion of the population out. And in his jewelry studio, in torion, JJ otero says any cuts to the already limited postal service on the Navajo Nation would be a major blow. I mean, it's just tough enough. They're overlooking the fact that poor people need to get mail and to get mail out. Among those poor people are the indigenous folks that live in areas like here. Otero says everything connecting him to his clients is tenuous. From his body Internet connection to the winding dirt roads that become impassable after a snowstorm to the off reservation post office that could soon become even less accessible. In torion, New Mexico, I'm.

"Possibly by other american officials. basically i mean they. The statement was to produce dirk on then pending trump. And paul manafort and that district jordan a big long thing Over a course of about four or five butts getting produce information about manafort and about the trump campaign and even possibly about trump and that it was the most prominent thing being this black ledger of metaphors which was found on the doorstep of a parliamentarian and then delivered to the embassy the fbi. I don i think you cranny and inspector general and also given to the pressure and give rich would offer for the democratic national committee. Woman named shoveled. So what happened to ken. Vogel's original source who launched kremlin headpiece. Needless to say he goes on to be sanctioned for part of the kremlin's information campaign. You try to help trump steal yet. Another presidential election in twenty twenty and he's banned from entering the united states. This was ken vogel source. It turned out a guy who gives off ukrainian. Tony soprano vibes. Can't be trusted. Any credible board order would have seen through telecinco. But ken vogel is not credible reporter he may be seen as one by the cloistered world of washington. Dc by people who don't dare satellite dare risk their precious quote unquote credibility to scream about the kremlin's attack our country as it was happening. Can bobo credible journalist. Those who do not have to live with the impact of trump's destruction and the destruction of those who failed to hold him and his family and their cronies accountable. so ken vogel's infamous kremlin. Hit piece was so infamous that the washington post wrote an article about it listing all the credible people who discounted the narrative and pointing out that politico's owner porting contradicted it. So why would can vogel do such a thing. Can bogle also try to invent a similar scandal early in the twenty twenty presidential election. That joe biden as president tried to get ukraine's a train general fired the same attorney general investigated a company that had the president's son hundred. Don sport will that investigation place. Even before hundred biden joined the board yet. Ken bogle blue that story up into another breathless scoop. Ukraine watchers alike myself and many others pointed out that everyone who cared about fighting corruption in ukraine wanted that chief prosecutor prosecutors sacked because the guy was corrupt. He was a fox guarding the hen house. Why are we talking about all this now. Because on the day of the biden putin summit the federal election commission the fcc decided to announce that a rare bipartisan decision had been reached to dismiss a case brought by trump's former attorney general. Matthew wigger whittaker took. This station is claims from cannibals. Crumlin is information headpiece and tried to turn it into yet another costly investigation harassing the fcc dismissed and who in the new york times announces the news recently that the fcc dismissed this case none other than canada goal. Ken vogel writes an article linking to his original political kremlin hit piece against my sister failing to disclose. He was the one who wrote it. It was so bizarre. It's like this guy helps and bent the news and then quickly breathlessly reports on on the shit disturbance caused and created. Is this what it takes to be a reporter today. As hedge funds gobble up newsrooms layoff journalists. Creating serious shortage of newsroom. Jobs do journalists. Today need to peddle sensationalism even if it means trying to destroy innocent lives in the process. Ken vogel is no better than any boardroom. Executive who wants to burn forest and the amazons. We'll make room for cattle-raising or hide a climate change report so protect big oil. Ken vogel should not be normalized. Can vogel should not be imitated. Ken vogel is an extremely troubling sign. We'd last ken vogels in the world and more public servants in journalism. Who understand the true meaning of the profession. And what it takes aligning yourself with power to help them. Further their agendas which include an illegal power grab solid power intimidating witnesses. Obstructing justice threatening judges dangling pardons getting away with mass murderer and a violent attempt to. That's who can vogel was eating with when he was furthering his career with what's known as win the day journalism reporters so sociopathic lamb vicious. They went to grab your attention with a big juicy. Since atia is story with zero concern for who will hurt or how will set our democracy back who cares. As long as it goes viral to be clear. America's problems are homegrown but the kremlin's eating of the worst of america is like providing a massive dose of steroids. You know how the kremlin doped up athletes at the olympics. And a bunch of other competitions kremlin doped up the republican party. And they're happy to take that help. That's what we're up against and were still up against it. Because too many people including some of ken vogel sources should be in prison and instead are walking free we have to leave a record of this and put it in the time capsule because future historians half understand who this mess who helped create it. They need to name to journalists that lost their way and canada. Bogle is one of those names that in any objective. Retelling of this history should be immortalized. Along with walter durante. The moscow bureau chief for the new york times during stalin's nineteen thirty three famine in ukraine. Who wrote as people died. From man-made starvation the highest numbers wrote in the new york times quote there is no famine. You know we wanted to use the article in the film. Mr jones directed by national holland. Who herself had survived soviet repression and in time in prison. The woman is a legend. The new york times said now it was like the new york times rejected holding. Walter durante accountable. And it all makes sense now because they clearly refuse to hold can vogel accountable and a damage. He's done by letting ten mobile right. The article about an investigation at his kremlin. Disinformation hippies helped launch in normalized. Ken vocals recklessness at the new york times refuses to learn from its own history. The new york times is doomed to repeat that history expect more. Ken vogels if they're allowed to hurt. Innocent people this way. Thank ma Oh know there you around now ahead and.

"Power at least as dependable power in the sense that it is yours. You know you are not asking for permission. You are making demands entree. I know you had some words to say about certain. Individual in the media and their representation of all of these corrupt situations as briefly preface says spy again encouraging. People not to fall for the illusion of justice being served actually look for hard evidence if that evidence is there. Then that's fantastic. And we're all cheering in unison. Together that the tide has indeed finally turn. That hasn't happened yet. There is a story week That occurred that. Got people briefly excited. Which is that rudy. Giuliani had lost his license to practice law in new york. This is long overdue. Eh should've avenue ages ago. It's obviously good. I suppose that it happened. Now since he shouldn't be practicing law anywhere but again. This is another one of those stories. Were folks get real amped up and they kind of missed the point. The point of this particular case is that a trump lawyer is not there to practice. Law are never there to practice law. They are there to be a fixer and a threaten her. Which is what giuliani was and that was following a well trodden path laid by ray cone and michael cohen. Who incidentally were both also disbarred after serving as trump's lawyer the entire time that giuliani was acting as trump's quote unquote lawyer as trump was the president. Giuliani was not actually licensed to practice law in washington. Dc everything he was doing. All of those press conferences were first spectacle and the media rewarded giuliani with a perch to spew propaganda. Because they wanted access and you would think that you know. Perhaps given the massive death toll from a preventable global plague or the violent seditious attack on the capital that the media would learn to not promote. People like giuliani and to not rehabilitate people. Like bill barr and jared kushner who are currently profiting off of their crime. Sprees in the forms of books and interviews. Pseudo tells that basically are just you know scandal covering crime yet again a media culpa like a fake apology if there even as an apology tour or the confession of something that can't be prosecutable in order to cover up the absolute atrocities in illegalities that they committed and there are a lot of journalists. Who went along for this ride. During the trump administration and still don't seem to have learned their lesson. And at this point. I'm gonna turn it over to you. Andrea. 'cause i know you had a lot prepared here. Yes so an important focus of gasoline. Nation is to be a time capsule where we remind people of. You've been recent history ground ourselves. In this deliberately chaotic news cycle. it's s era. Said they cover up. Crimes with scandal may do that very very well and they're still doing it so we like to stay grounded in the history of in recent history so folks understand how we got here and how widespread the rajas that brings us to our old friend. Ken vogel of the new york times. So he's back at it as they say we all know the whole story. Paul manafort we've documented. Putin start fader remain times on this show. Anybody who followed ukraine for a very long time knew that paul manafort coming over and managing donald trump's campaign for president the kremlin was here. Because paul manafort billy worked kremlin interests and ukraine for a decade before coming over to the us to run trump's election but his longtime client began coach putin's pop and ukraine sony estimated forty two hundred billion dollars. That's billion with a b. From ukrainian state from taxpayers and use that stolen money to enrich himself and his family and their cronies. So what this comes down to is that my sister's we've also dock mouna show the former contractor for the dnc who risked her life and career to warn both democrats and republicans that paul manafort running. Trump's campaign meant that there was a crumlin connection. This again was very obvious. My sister warning people about this in two thousand sixteen was not the story. The fact that the intelligence community the fbi that was invited by ukraine to come in to find the tens of billions of dollars. Kobe stole the fbi. Knew paul manafort was. That's the story of the intelligence community in the officials that are charged with protecting us. Failed to stop paul far from getting anywhere near. Us presidential race and allowing trump to come to with his kremlin connection and dependence on dirty russian. Money was able to come to power first place. That's the story not what my sister did in trying to warn everybody. What she did was patriotic and she paid a great price for it. She and her family so my sister was went out of her way in two thousand sixteen to warn everybody and was as we talked about. The show was getting death threats. There there was an attempt to break in our home. Her phone was hacked. Jamal was hacked. It was just very. There's that song that threatening song that was appearing on her on her phone. Listen i rap. Assoc- the hell that she was. Put it through all for one out the obvious. That putin's darth vader was now in the us. We looked into personal security. Privacy are expensive instead to protect wanted to raise her profile. That's one way of doing it. If you don't have the money for bodyguard you raise your profile so you become a name of voice so that they have a harder time making disappear and she was talking to press a lot for that reason ecorse especially to get the truth out and during this time she was Became too late. When trump was elected. She got a warning from a friend. That the trump transition team was asking around about her trending up dirt on her to try to hurt her and around. This time she met a reporter at politico by the name of ken vogel who wanted to speak with her. And so they did some interviews and a couple of months later can bogle came out with a kremlin information hit piece on my sister painting her and ukraine as meddling in the two thousand sixteen election to hurt trump.

"These tentacles reaching out in multiple directions through big tax through universities through research institutes and so on but it needs to be vigorously and quickly investigated and prosecuted. They had decades to do this. They decades to stop this monster from growing and now the have really the best opportunity possible. you know being that trump is out of power being that the democrats hold majorities and so forth. This is the time to do it. And i you know as much as i would love to see this happen and again. I really hope i'm wrong. I think it's unlikely you know. And i i don't know andrea. What are your thoughts. Is this going anywhere is just another lake. Mary gets jared kushner. Paul manafort mike flynn roger stone type situation. So if you ever talked to any of the fantasy football league legal announcers on cable news. And you see these guys privately and you're like what the hell man whereas Where's the accountability as the indictments. Worst prison sentence. What will say to you privately. In an i'm sure they status as they get excited about every little new headline that sivan's produces they like to point out that the justice system takes time. It takes time. Everybody has the right to a fair trial. Everyone has the right to legal counsel so let me respond to that. Very measured approach. We are in a society. Now where citizens united has unleashed a massive stairway raid infused legal system for the very very very rich in this country. Worse than anything we had before that just stops on anybody else who simply doesn't have as much money to compete. Rich people can sue which people can drag it out on the courts. If you try to retrieve accountable they will just have their lawyers. Just drag it out and drag it out and they will be doing this now through courts that have been packed by mitch. Mcconnell donald trump with our right ideological judges thirty percent of the courts are now trump judges and these were dirty. People ideologically speaking who are selected because they knew full. Well why they're being selected the judiciary cage bars on authoritarianism on the closing. A democracy on rising autocracy. And that's what we have now. So if you want to trust legal system where citizens united and thirty percent of our courts packed by a russian asset corrupt mob. Boss are what we're relying on. See any justice. You would understand why. Sarah keep the show going. Even though we're called all sorts of things like the spirituals or whatever america's on a cliff right now we're teetering and the justice we do have is grassroots. Justice is calling this out by were putting pressure. We name and shame. That's the justice that's remaining left to us and that isn't powerful justice. That does matter. We cannot let up because it can get so much worse than this and by calling biden by name by calling. Ron bloom by name and saying this is on you. Those lives uttered rule. America that are dependent on the mail for their checks for their medicine. Those lives are on you as blood on your hands. You could enrich the joys cronies and so joy can read his time at. Usps and retire to some cushy raking in cushy consulting deals and all those things. that's what you're setting up you're paying for that with innocent lives and you're going to be paying for that. The ballot box. Because that's on you. Dejoy is now the democrats brand of utter lack of accountability injustice. So where the courts are compromised. Because of trump mitch mcconnell's court packing where american justice is generally compromised because of citizens united and all the dark money. That's allowed to flow. And all the all garcs like basis and bill gates and warren buffett refute tax dodging and relying on the rest of us to paradoxes taxes. So that roads get paid. Teachers get paid right all of that. Tax dodging by americans. All guards are allowing the income inequality crisis to continue to get worse. Romania has storage levels. So what i'm telling you is that america has become an all garki. It's growing into a clip talk rec- where the very rich the very third are enjoying a very different legal system and the rest of us and that gives them all types of comfort and peace of mind and stability because they can just rag things out in the courts. And so what you're seeing with five investigations all of that. It's just cable news fodder. The real justice is on the gasoline nation action. I on gas nation dot com. That's what it comes down to. Why do we know that. Because when you're up against such large forces what can rebalance the scales smart organizing and smart community building. That's what the civil rights movement was. Why do you think we opened. The gasoline nation action guy with a memoir case study written by martin luther king on how he as a young man organized montgomery bus boycott that was organization against powerful financial forces and they stood up to it and they were able to sustain it and grow into something much larger that inspired the world so yes the odds are stacked against us but yes. The power is in our hands to take back our country. We do have that in us. We do have a very strong legacy to stand on and that legacy. I wanna point out was largely driven and built by black and brown people on the soil. And so when you talk about critical race theory which is essential. You went to understand how we got into the situation first place. Because it's it's the study with the return. How america was built. Came out of authoritarian. Our still plagued by the forces of that. Currently our whole hope lies in understanding that. It's archer now in america's long history in confronting these authoritarian forces. It's our turn now in confronting america's proud heritage of exploiting bodies for profit. It's our turn out to do this. Work is our turn out to be abolitionist. it's our turn now to understand liberation. What it means who needs it. who's most vulnerable. Now they coming after because they're going to go after the most vulnerable always do the marginalized community the black and brown people. Lgbt communities and so forth. but they'll always come after you next even if you're someone privilege they're coming after your water coming out of the quality of your air. They're coming after coming after your veil literally right before is coming after you next. None of us are safe. And the only way to protect ourselves is to accept the power that we have within us it except the power of community except the power of smart grassroots organizing. Because it does matter and it didn't matter they wouldn't be trying so hard to steal vote would be trying so hard to consolidate power. They wouldn't be trying so hard to pack the courts. They are scared of us. First and foremost wouldn't be doing all this corruption or aggressively. It's on us now to do what we can to owner power clamor power and never lose sight of these excuses. If people offer of just way you know look for the savior justices coming. The wheels of justice grind slowly but grinds like the wheels of justice are like run you over in the road like killing you're getting scooped up by Republicans who are feasting off the corpse. Like i don't know what else to say..

"Us postal service with very long proud history. A postal service that people depend on for their social security checks for their medicines. Rural areas depend on them. It's a lifeline especially where you have limited internet and louis dejoy does nice care about carrizo first and foremost making money and dodging accountability. And right now. He appears to be doing both. The fbi is currently investigating dejoy for some shady political donations that he made a from slate. I'll read from that now to give you an update. Overlapping with the election. Controversy was joys role as a major republican donor prior to government service and a possible illegal straw donor scheme. He allegedly orchestrated during that time. The washington post first reported on allegations by employers enjoys company that he pressured workers to donate to republican causes and then reimburse them via bonuses all of this would be a clear violation of the law and it is wet. The department of justice is reportedly in now after local law enforcement of north carolina. Said it would not be moving forward with the case so what this whole pressuring employees to donate which is a way of of political Representation it is putting your your political voice out there. That reminds me so much of how you gonna kovic. Try to steal. Be two thousand four presidential election in ukraine part of that sweeping effort of kremlin-backed election stealing in a two thousand four.

"Into whether or not matt gaetz was involved in a sex in the sex trafficking of a seventeen year old girl former federal prosecutor. Andrew weissmann will join us next. Nbc news has confirmed that federal prosecutors are investigating republican congressman matt gates for possible obstruction of justice in involving ongoing an ongoing sex crimes investigation which also involves gates the obstruction. Investigation is focused on a phone call. But a witness in the sex crimes case allegedly had with matt gaetz former girlfriend political reports at some point during the conversation. The ex girlfriend patch gates into the call sources said while it's unknown. Exactly what was said. The discussion on that call is central to whether prosecutors can charge gates with obstructing justice. Which makes it illegal to suggest that a witness in a criminal case lie or give misleading testimony. Carson from gates has not been charged with any crimes and has repeatedly denied that he violated any laws. Congressman gates office issued a written statement with no name signed to it. Such statements used to be the job responsibility of men named luke ball who was carson gates director of communications until he quit his job when this controversy erupted so he would not have to lease written statements like this carbon gates pursues justice he doesn't obstruct it after two months. There is still not a single on record accusations of misconduct and now the story is changing yet again. Today in florida federal judge signed off on a plea agreement submitted by matt gaetz former associate. Joel greenberg nbc. News reports greenberg admitted to having spent over seventy thousand dollars. One hundred and fifty transactions to pay women for sex from two thousand sixteen to twenty eighteen. One of the women was under eighteen. For part of the time greenberg her for sex acts with him and others joel. Greenberg has pleaded guilty to a total of six charges including child sex trafficking and wire fraud. Prosecutors agreed to drop more than a dozen in exchange for greenberg's full cooperation in the sex crimes investigation. Gerald greenberg is scheduled to be sentenced on august nineteenth joining us. Now is andrew weisman who served as fbi general counsel and was chief of the criminal. Division in the eastern district of new. York is an ms nbc. Legal analyst andrew of i a- badgen for a federal prosecutor like yourself or watching this development today. There's a lot to interpret their absolutely so as we talked about earlier. The fact that greenberg is cooperating is itself quite significant. Because you don't cooperate somebody with that criminal record in less you have in your sights somebody or more people more than one who are as culpable or more so than him. So that's that's step number one but this story today from politico about an obstruction investigation. That's something that. When i was a prosecutor you know we just you know would sink our teeth into for two reasons. One obstruction is a very simple clear. Charge juries get it. That is going to a crime scene with police tape around it. And the defended removing a piece of evidence so that that strikes at the heart of the criminal justice system at it's really easy crime to convey to a jury not lot of technicalities and the other thing that's good about an obstruction charge is it tends to show the underlying guilty of the person. Because why would you obstruct if you're innocent of the underlying charges so this is again. We don't know if the government's going to be able to prove it but if they could this is another proverbial nail in the coffin and quite significant evidence does agreeing scheduled. Sentencing of august nineteenth. Tell us anything about what we might expect before that. You know it doesn't and i think it's because some judges like to wait until the very end of the person's cooperation and then sentence The defendant just once after their cooperation is complete. That is i think if i were judge the preferred way to do it but there are many judges who dunked you that they will. They will just schedule the defendants sentencing as as soon as they get the pre sentence report and then if the person cooperates further after sentencing they can sentence the person to a lower sentence so the date of sentence here doesn't to me signal that much But but i do think that it is correct to anticipate charges in this case and i would say sooner rather than later. You'll just quickly on that point before. We go Defense console in a case. Similar to this and someone's friend goes in and this is the day where he pleads you see exactly what he's pleading to you. See everything that you saw today. You turn to your client of your defense counsel and you give them. What kind of timetable on what to expect. This is i'm going to. I'm going to analogize to. My sister is an oncologist and she says that she has the. It's time if it's time to get a paris speech which is the you know there's something you've been putting off. It's a good time to do it. I think here with in this case you would tell your client you need to be prepared for this You know this is one where you are not gonna be saying. You know the odds. Look good here. you're going to be thinking you have to get ready for the charges and really prepare for the press part of it. The legal part of it and you have to hunker down on that one thing i would definitely tell your client. Don't talk to witnesses to the fact that fact gates was on the phone. I'm sure his lawyer is having a you know a small heart attack at the the fact that that happened. Good old fashioned advice. don't talk to witnesses. Andrew weissmann. Thank you very much for joining us once again tonight. You're welcome. thank you and coming up because drunk history has been cancelled.

"He'll leave he'll he'll leave the investigation and the process for it to the department of justice and so we see two bits of news there won. The fbi is conducting a criminal investigation of postmaster general. Louis dejoy end to we. Now have a president who will not comment on anyone who is under criminal investigation by the fbi and we have an administration in which no one will comment about someone who is under investigation by the fbi. White house press secretary. Jen psaki will not say a word about it. That's not the way it was. In the previous administration the administration that made louis dejoy the postmaster general after he contributed over a million dollars to donald trump. Our first guest tonight cannot comment on the criminal investigation of the postmaster general because president biden has appointed her to the board of governors of the us postal service. Which has the power to remove the postmaster general and appoint a one amber mcreynolds is one of the three new biden appointees to the nine member board of governors of the us. Postal service and. She is the first member of that board in history who has any expertise in voting and elections and specifically mail in voting and she has a lot of expertise in that. It's the kind of voting. The donald trump opposes mail in voting. Except when he males in his own ballot like he did in the last presidential election the postmaster general is not being investigated by the fbi for what he did or did not do to speed of delivery of mail mail in ballots in the last election. Louis dejoy is being investigated for possible campaign finance violations in the two thousand sixteen election according to the washington post in court in washington post reporting employees at joy's former company quote alleged. They were pressured by dejoy or his aides to attend political fundraisers or make contributions to republican candidates and then were paid back through bonuses. That is a violation of federal campaign. Finance law as described in that reporting that is why the fbi is now investigating. The postmaster general in a house hearing last year congressman. Jim cooper of tennessee asked dejoy if he repaid employees for making contributions to donald trump and dejoy said under oath that's outrageous claim sir and i resented the answer is no if the joys under oath answer turns out to be untrue than he could face perjury charges for that testimony. The postmaster general's spokesperson mark corallo. Said mr dejoy has learned that the department of justice is investigating campaign. Contributions made by employees. Who worked for him when he was in the private sector. He has always been scrupulous in his adherence to the campaign contribution laws and has never knowingly violated them one way or another. It is very likely that our next guest amber mcreynolds will be choosing the next postmaster general during her five-year term. Ever mcreynolds denver's director elections before. She became an advocate for mail in budding. If you had an easy time voting by mail last year like everyone in the state of california who automatic received a mail in ballot at home. Then you can thank amber mcreynolds for the urgent advice about mail in balloting that she gave to several states when they realized that the coronavirus pandemic would force them to conduct mail in voting on a scale. Many of them had never done before yesterday. The governor of nevada signed a new law that provides that every voter in nevada will automatically receive a mail in ballot in every election. Our next guest will be doing everything that she cap to make sure that the postal service delivers those ballots on time and lives up to the inscription in grant over the entrance of the majestic facade office across the street from penn station on eighth avenue in manhattan and that inscription says neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed. Rounds joining us. Now is amber reynolds. She is a member of the board of governors of the us postal service. Thank you very much for joining us tonight. Really appreciate it. Thanks for having me learn. I want to get your reaction to what you're seeing out develop in mail in balloting. It's been attacked. By president. trump relentlessly a former president trump Attacked by republicans. And here's the state of nevada stepping up and saying it's the way to do it. That's what we're going to do right. And you know up until twenty twenty. There were multiple states including states like utah. That has expanded o'brien by mail greatly. They mail a ballot to every voter in state of utah. And they did so. Prior to twenty. Twenty montana and states like arizona and florida all have been expanding vote by mail for a long period of time in soak gross in this use in this method of voting for the last over twenty years now. it became a partisan issue because one person started attacking it From from the white house last year and we've spent the last year relief fact checking putting out the correct information research to avoid that. You know the other thing i would say is is. There are multiple states that are expanding at after their experience in the pandemic including many northeastern states of vermont passed a unanimous bill out of committee that advanced on their To the floor in both chambers and we expect it to be signed by the governor. It hasn't been so yet just like what happened in bada. So there's multiple states advancing this moving forward and there's other states that are frankly feeding into and believing. The lies and conspiracies in trying to restrict voting access in a very partisan indirect attack on boaters of all partisan stripes. This hurts everyone when voters accesses is hurt of the biggest state in the country with the most voters. california sent out ballots to every single one of them if there were going to be glitches in the system it would have been presumably in. The biggest one and california reporting on the mail in ballot process seemed flawless. There were there. Were no complaints about it. Certainly from anyone in california and voters took to it Many of whom had never voted that way before they adapt to it immediately. Correcting and california as you mentioned is is the largest state with the largest population and they also are home to five counties that are larger than in upwards of forty states so they have a significantly larger sections within california. They had a tremendous experienced work together. Collectively election officials legislators and voting rights groups and nonprofit organizations. They all worked together to pull off a significant transformation in a pandemic now. They're looking to make that permanent. I'll never say that. Elections cannot be improved if we're not trying to continually improve policies processes and procedures after a reelection. Were doing it wrong. We should always be looking for opportunities to make voting more accessible for anyone..

5 ways the postmaster general's new USPS plan could impact your mail delivery

"Us postal service has a plan to save money. But it could mean slowing down some mail and likely raising some prices postmaster general. Louis dejoy announced a new proposal this week. If it gets approved it would take up to five days to get standard first class. Mail delivered right now. The standard is three days or less the plan would also shift more deliveries to trucks. instead of planes. It would cut hours at some post offices and it might raise the price of postage. Although it's not clear by how much keep in mind. The proposal comes at a pretty desperate time for the post office. It's been struggling financially for years and could now lose one hundred and sixty billion dollars over the next decade but not everyone thinks this new proposal is the right way to make up for those losses. House speaker nancy pelosi said it would undermine the very mission of the usps other lawmakers worried. This could dramatically slow the delivery of critical things like prescription drugs and social security checks. Whoever the postmaster general says at least sixty one percent of mail will be delivered in less than three days anyway and no matter what the usps needs to either make changes or get a big government bailout either way. Nothing is set in stone yet. The postal service still wants to get the opinion of the independent postal regulatory commission before making any real
