"They were like, you know, the guitar was like a whole different thing. And then Def Leppard, they had a drum solo, which is more nuanced and used now, but back in the day when I saw him because he only had one arm, people were very impressed by his ability. So everybody else went and got a drink. And was like doing their shit backstage, and he was on stage just doing a drum solo, which I'm assuming, 'cause you used to like rev from avenged sevenfold. I'm assuming I know Mötley Crüe Tommy Lee used to do drum solos. Do they did they do drum solos in any years? Yeah. Yeah, he sang too, which was really cool. I saw them live with him, I was so lucky to be here. You were lucky. Because they did like three voice melodies. Gotcha, where you would hear amazing. And the drummer you could see him like somehow doing these super his wild singing. His voice was so unique. Yeah, 'cause Def Leppard does 5 as well. And so getting that chance to hear them sing. And then some bands, we saw heart. I don't think they're tour anymore, but they both sang. And in fact, one of the biggest, one of their biggest hits was the guitarist singing, not the main league. And so she's saying, and that was cool. Yeah, those are fun to go to reg is there a reason why for the most well Lindsay Sterling you went to. Do they not come to your area? Or is it more along the lines of you're just not? Bitch to go out to an event, really? Yeah. Do you like somebody enough to go to an event if they came to you? Is there somebody you follow musically? No. No, okay. What do you like musically? Like Lindsey Stirling, obviously. Is that the kind of stuff you're more into? Well, I think it's better to explain how our user we use music platforms. I pick a song that I like and then I say just do an auto playlist with whoever. Gotcha. Gotcha. So it's a little less like picking them on purpose and more like you'd like one song. Do you know who I want to see? She's not going to be available anymore. I would have killed the Cecil Celine Dion. I like good voices. Female vocals? Female vocals will go see anybody. Fleetwood Mac, I would kill.

"So do you remember? Yes, I do listen to the same music. Well, I listen to the same music, but I don't listen to the same music like you do. Yeah. Because you know, I'm talking about back in the day when we're rolling in the car and you play the same track and or the same CD every day, we would go anywhere. I'm like, do I like the song and I'm starting to like it less because I can't listen to it. Well, not so much savage garden because I was listening to it. As well. But it was like specifically like Def Leppard slang, which was like, you had the weirdest love hate relationship with that CV I've ever seen. The first time, remember? Yeah, I was in the car when you pulled it out of the player and literally winged it out the driver, the driver window. It was like, oh, okay, that one's done. But like, and when thinking back on it now, I'm like, I didn't, I thought it was funny. I didn't hate it, but it was like noticeably like constantly because you would listen to stuff like firehouse. Which was like really, which was like, not something I was into 80s arena metal, like Def Leppard and stuff like that. And like Mötley Crüe and stuff, but like firehouse was never really in my radar, but you would play that costume. Like, well, this has got some good tracks and like, oh, I remember this one from the radio, but like the rest of the CD is actually pretty banging. So I'm like, yeah. Putting something on repeat forever. I know. Lately on Spotify, I've been just like going back through because I will listen to stuff, but I grew up with classic rock radio all the time because it's what my parents listened to, so I kind of got burned out on that, but that's kind of slowly starting to come back. But then. I like metal and techno and stuff like and rap and stuff like that from my time frame of like middle school to like late high school and then I don't know what like the music industry changed so it was hard to find newer stuff because you didn't have your MPVs. You don't have the radio presence like before. You don't have the same kind of delivery methods for music so it was harder for me to find new stuff. I'm always looking for new stuff and it's and so what I find something like when you send me a text at 9 30 at night after I've already gone to bed like dude you need to go and look up unleash the archers, watch this yeah. This video right now and I'm like, whatever, how good can it be? I'm like, all right. Well, I need to buy this right now. So I go to Amazon. Well, not hers. It's like just next level, but it's like, I don't like word of heart. Anymore, it's hard to get like any sort of new stuff. And it's like, so when I find that kind of stuff, like that or when you showed me a ghost, one of the tracks from them. Not my style of mine either, but I like their, but yeah, like that track I'm like, that's really kind of like, that's good. That's catchy, I like that. I never would have found this on my own. So I'm trying to find a new way to get new music. So I am listening to a lot of older music because of that fact. And it's like, at the same time, there's stuff like, I like Metallica, but I don't like current Metallica. Like older Metallica. I like Guns N' Roses is that. I like older Megadeth, whereas you like newer megadeath. And it's so like even prior to cryptic writings kind of stuff. Yeah, yeah.

"What we call cookie cutter sound, but if anybody knows mutt Lang, it's going to be Keith because Keith is the engineer of the two of us here, sound engineer. But I just thought of this. I have a weird, I have a weird connection to him. Do you really? Yeah. I just didn't, you just reminded me. So I went through to make this really fast. But I graduated from a, I mean, it's huge at the time. It wasn't as big, but it was a music industry school. They had Sony, I think, paid for a lot of the production studios that they were nice. Full on high end engineering boards equipment. We had digital, we had digital technology back then, but this was before you could go buy an iMac, and pro tools, pro tools were basically, yeah, we had pro tools rigs and it took the whole studio. Okay. Absolutely. So at that time, I was in that school at in college. A friend of mine, who was also in the music school who was a drummer. It was one of my roommates. Had another friend in the program, and that guy was an engineer, or he had just graduated, and he was Shania Twain's. I think he was her studio and her road engineer. And I'm not going to name names because of things that he told me that I might slip, but I learned to what extent her pitch was managed. And what kind of equipment it took to get her to sing in key and all that stuff, right? But you have to remember, so what? So how does this tie in a mut Lang? Well, of course. They were married at the time, right? Yes, absolutely, yeah. Changed the mutt Lange produced some great acts such as Def Leppard, AC/DC, Shania Twain. I mean, he basically, you know, you can say what you want to say. I mean, he develops the sound and sticks with that formula for just about every artist that he is working with. If it works, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Well, and this is sort of a conversation that you and I have, anecdotally, but honestly, there's a lot of truth in this all the time, which is at what point do you draw the line between creating art and making a business. And a lot of people throughout the years have said, well, don't ever sell out, right? Like you do it to create the art, no other reason, but if you can't pay the bills, at some point you do have to compromise in there and I think that's always been the challenge, right?.

I started in politics and always sort of drift a little more here and there to entertainment, you know, whenever I get those opportunities. I mean, I think I said to you back in the day, John Lieberman, if you knew John, who used to be on stern's show, I think, you know, they had me on when Robin had that kind of short lived show on one of the channels there. You know? I didn't understand that when you said you were on Robin show. I'm like, did Robin have a show? It was shorten the problem was, you know, then she got breast cancer. "Cool man in the song. The alchemists is a perfect example of. This may be an album that came on twenty twenty but that is one hundred percent without adult blue oyster cult. Oh yeah nobody sounds like those guys and the production on. That record is huge. I love the production on. Yeah that's what i'm saying. The whole thing is guy like this big epic feel to it. Like if i was going to have a dungeons and dragons party. That's the album gonna play and it's going to be awesome. It's definitely a mystical sounding. And the album cover might be the best album cover of the year. Two quite possibly man. It's really awesome. And i was always kind of just casual. Boys called fan you know. Of course you know the songs you know the the handful a year on the radio. But they've got a shit ton of albums in their awesome discography and there a band that i still discover. They're still blue ice or called albums out there. I haven't heard including that last one that came out in two thousand one so i'm still on a path of discovery with blue oyster cult. But if somebody that slight me that's not a huge giant fan of this band is so blown away by this alma. i can't imagine what somebody who loves. blue eyes. stir colt must feel after twenty twenty after here in this so very cool and if you are a huge fan or you know of a big fan of this ban you gotta let them know about the awesome interview. That ian widely and josh toomey was there to did with I think dharma wasn't it. Is i who they talked to. Yeah they did. An awesome interview talked. Blue cer- called and yada check that out but most definitely i think the symbol remains is something you need to purchase. You need to own and thank me later. All right we ready for my number one. Here we go the moments we all been waiting for. What are chris. Ahrends number one albums of twenty twenty laid army. Okay so at like with sons of apollo the another ban where i didn't know we were going to get a second record from this band but i sure am happy that we did Talking about tokyo motor fist. You remember. I really love that record. They put out like two years ago. I think i sure do because you turn me on to that. And that album was freaking awesome and released in april on guests. What's record label. Could he be frontiers definitely as frontiers And if you don't know or if you're new to the show this band has ted poli from danger. Danger on vocals and steve brown from tricks. Wrong it's our and steve. Brown is also The guitar tech for def leppard. And when you hear this band you will understand why Because you'll hear a lot of old school def leppard kind of sound of this band it's They had a self titled debut a couple years ago. There is no new ground being broken here at all. It's a straight up. Eighty style hard rock record. And that's a good thing to me. it was hard to pick a number one for my list this year. Too but The song that i that. I did pick probably the song that i spun more in the past year than any other so I would have to go with tokyo. Motorist young blood.
