I do you always I know we have such a deep conversations from the very first one. Yeah, Lacy interviewed me for peace. When it my book first came out and like we ended up like just hitting it off and I was pregnant and we were tucked for like two hours and I remember I had another like interview for another story afterwards and I was just like don't even care like I'm not I'm going to give myself like ten minutes to prepare because I I'm just soaking up every delicious second of this conversation. That's how I feel too when we have when we talk because I feel like we both have a love of words, right and we both have found ways to express very deep emotions and very deep feeling through words and connects with people in the page. And that's one of things I love about your craft and I just I love following you. I love what you're about and you dead. You recently were interviewed and you've been talking a little bit about this out there in the world, especially with what's going on with our lovely Global pandemic about social media and I was like, okay we have to have this conversation because this is something that I'm struggling with and I've got little people at home who are learning their relationship with technology and we took a time where the only way to connect in a lot of ways is digitally but who are we any more? Yeah, that's that's you know, I've actually been fascinated by this subject for a few years. I've written I wrote a few essays about social media and my relationship with it and observations. I've made with friends and and experiences we've had together. I thought wrote a reported piece believe it was last summer for popsugar with Dr. Kevin Gilliland who's just this incredible psychologist and author and we had such a great conversation about how there's there's some thoughts that reveal that social media has contributed to an increased suicide rate and there's a lot we could talk about with that but it's affecting people of all generations and even more so I mean I've been passionate about this subject before 2020 and now it's like it's confusing for me and I struggle because I also have written pieces for Oprah Magazine and popsugar about ways to date online and I'm like, okay, so I have this issue with our digital lives, but then I'm also encouraging it and what I I've the conclusion I I've arrived at is that it's it's not the it's not the social media. It's not the are, you know necessarily even our digital age. It's user error. It's our relationship. With it and it's Our intention behind connecting like you know what I mean that a hundred percent really have to look at and it's the same way. I mean, honestly if you think about alcohol itself is not bad shopping is not bad sex is not bad, but all of those things can be expressed and inexperienced in a way that could be very harmful to a person. I love that because you know, I'm creating software, right so and and we're using technology and I someone was asking me about my relationship with it because within our app, you know, we want people to use it and with from our perspective. It's always been about Humane technology. And as I was thinking more about it, and the way we presented to people in the way we have people interact through it down on how we have our own relationships with social media. One of the things I came to is very similar like technology and social media our net neutral. They are a platform. They are a tool they are dead. Amazing way to connect and possibly serve but it's all in how you use it and much like anything else almost like how advertising, you know creates these beautiful images and these ways of believing, you know, the way we look we should this way or we should buy this or we should have this kind of perception or opinion about X. It's happening. I think with social media as well and I'm curious like when you talk about user error like what advice would you give I think especially I feel like think it's across gender, right? Oh, yeah, but I think a lot of young women and especially girls when they're coming to social media like they're they're using it based on their peer group that you how do you explain user error? How do you explain like a healthywage approaching and that that's sort of a conundrum because it's like I feel like and also like with Generation Z which was being greatly affected by the suicide rate. There's a lot of bullying and their.
