What Makes an 'X-Factor' Player?
"When I say X Factor, forget the player just like the idea of an X Factor. What does that mean to you? So when I watch, when I watch film, when I'm studying or breaking down a team, I always, there's a couple things that just really offensively for me. And just stick with the offense, that really catch my eye. Anytime I see somebody that makes just kind of a rewind able moments, and you can have good rewind moments in bad, bad rewind able moments. But there will always be a dude on office or a dude on defense where you're watching and studying and you're like, wow, wow, wow, I gotta rewind that. And those positive rewind able moments, those guys are the ones that make the explosive plays, the great catch, the tough, the tough tone setter things. Watching San Francisco 49er film. Deebo Samuel, the way he runs the ball the way he catches the ball at the point of catch contact, how strong his hands are, how guys can be draped all over him. He's still coming away with the football. Those are rewind able moments for me. So I look at kind of explosive rewind able moments. And then I look at go to conversion moments, critical situation moments. Who are we going to? What's the guy that you've got to as a quarterback go? I don't care if he's double covered. This is the dude that I'm going to. This is the dude that's going to convert for me. So those are things that I always kind of watch for. As I'm prepping to do a

"It's smart to do an extension now, or perhaps wait, the pros of doing it now is you get something done when the quarterback market could explode next year when guys like Joe burrow and Justin Herbert are amongst the players eligible for an extension, so chef has there been any talks between the Broncos and Russell Wilson about an extension because he's currently only under contract for two more years. We'll feel that I think when the Denver Broncos make this deal, they do so knowing that at some point in time sooner rather than later they'll probably have to extend Russell Wilson. Now there's a change in ownership there in Denver where they're waiting for the Walmart family to be approved here and obviously to move forward there. But if you look at Russell Wilson's contract right now, it's already out of date. He's got two years and $41 million left on that contract to make $19 million this year. And so Denver knows it has a big bargain. It knows that it invested an awful lot and Russell Wilson and we talked earlier in the show about a potential timeline via George kittle for deebo Samuel. And I would think that it would be something similar with Russell Wilson here. Some point before the start of the season, it wouldn't be a surprise if these two sides were able to come together to figure out an extension, but I would think that that would be something that both sides would want to make happen. And as we know, the price tag for quarterbacks could creep up to north of $50 million per year as soon as next off season, maybe even this off season. I realized if you can have special outcomes that you got to be comfortable being uncomfortable. Man, I had an opportunity to get a quality dude that is a more than capable coach. One of my sayings I got a lot of sentence is dope sick dope seek comfort. You better be willing to do unique things in order to expect unique results, like McDonald's, right? You know what the number one is. The number one is the number one, and that's what I want Pittsburgh to the football to be. When you watch somebody do something at a certain level for so long, it messes up your perceptions of what's regular and what's not. I don't run away from coaching. I run two coaches. Yo, would it be great? I need to be with what this 2022 team needs me to be. The standard is the standard. Gosh, such a good interview. RC, what was your takeaway from sitting down with coach Tomlin? One, that's who I've always known him to be. The thing I was happiest about is that the world got kind of an opportunity to know a little bit about how smart he is, how much he understands leadership, how much he understands people. My biggest takeaway was that he's actually excited about 2022. And listen, not every team is built to win a championship. And when you lose someone like Ben Roethlisberger, you would think some fear creeps up in your mind that you're doing it for the first time without your future Hall of Fame quarterback, but the excitement in his eyes and in his voice when he said, you know what? This is a new team. And I have to be whatever I have to be for this team to win. And running into the coaching that it's going to take for the 2022 Pittsburgh Steelers to be successful, that made me excited for this team. Whereas I was like, oh, it's going to be different without being, where would they find offense? How would they be good? Where is the leadership? I see now. He feels the leadership is in that locker room, and he's ready to coach these men to be different this year. The RC, I'm sitting here thinking when I'm watching the interview, obviously phenomenal head coach, record speaks for itself. Super Bowl winner. I'm sitting here thinking to myself, this guy could be like the commissioner of the NFL one day with the way that he just has this presence about him that is simply it's magnetic. And he is a leader that much is for sure. Mike Tomlin also shared some insights on second year running back najee Harris in the integral role of leadership that he can play for this franchise going forward. Let's take a listen on this one. That dude, the bell cow. He gonna have to be a bell cow for us. If this train going anywhere in 2022, he could be a major component of it in his capable. I ain't even talking about it from a talent standpoint. We know that. I'm talking about he's capable from an intangible standpoint. Bringing the best out in his teammates, wearing a responsibility that comes with leading. He just young. And so it's been a fun project. So RC, how much does the passing of the leadership torch to naji mean in your mind? That means it's on. It means a ton forward to be said publicly in that way. He's not only talking to us and speaking to the pivot. He's speaking to the world. He's speaking to the Pittsburgh Steelers that he's anointing this guy because he's capable because he has the stuff that it takes to lead to put the team first to put teammates first. I mean, you can go back to his draft day and having his draft party at a homeless shelter because he was once homeless himself. This is a guy who gets it. We saw the talent on the field. Last year, this year we'll get an opportunity to see how his leadership affects the locker room and affects the team. Niko, he was great last year in the conversation for offensive rookie of the year. But how important is nausea to the success of this dealer's offense, which again, first time starting a new quarterback in seemingly forever? Yeah, he's going to be a huge piece. And when you have a running back that's that physical that can really carry the load of the team and especially with a young quarterback, we don't know who the starting quarterback is going to be week one. So him being able to come in, be consistent, be that leader. You can be a young leader. You can be a second year guy and be a captain, a leader of men just by going out there, day in and day out and consistently doing things the right way. He's the guy that can do that. So again, I think he's going to have a huge year, and he's going to have to for this dealer team to go where they want to go. Listen, Nico is exactly right. When you look at when the Pittsburgh Steelers are their best, they lead with their run in and they can push the football down the field. Now you're going to have a quarterback that's mobile. You're going to have a team that can do some different things offensively, but they're going to have to stop the run D on defense and run the football offensively. And that starts with naji Harris. I think the guy is a star. He's going to be a bill call for years to come there, but it's going to be extremely vital, especially early that naji shows that he can carry this team on his back, which would allow Mitchell trubisky or Kenny Pickett to make the plays in critical football moments, not necessarily have to go out and win games offensively as they come along and get adjusted to be in the Pittsburgh Steelers new starting quarterback. You know, RC, the fact that it was a second year player that Mike Tomlin was semi anointing as the next leader to me was notable. But I thought about it a little bit deeper. This is also a player who plays running back. We have gotten to this point in the NFL where we just say turning and Burnham, right? Running back one for a year, two or three, and then we move on to the next. Draft someone who's younger and cheaper with less tread on the tires. What do you think it says about nausea is a human that Mike Tomlin is anointing a guy who again at the most fungible position in the sport right now is becoming the leader of this offense. Yeah, well, first of all, you got to think about naji Harris coming out of high school was the number one player or number one running back in the country and having to wait his turn at Alabama. This wasn't a guy that was thrust into stardom as soon as he walked on the field or got to the school and he didn't transfer. He didn't look to go somewhere else. He waited his turn and then he had his opportunity to shine. A guy who comes on a team the next year with Big Ben Roethlisberger and ingratiates himself so much in that locker room as a team player, but also as a guy that understood and had the stuff to relate to not only the veterans, but the young guy and for coach Tomlin to recognize that means it was on a thousand each and every day with his personality with his work with his morals and with his football character. That's what's mostly important to me to this team and why he was anointed as the next leader of this offense. Only I got to say is, I can't stand you, RC. You're a star in NFL live, then you go on the pivot, you're a star there. Can you share a little bit with the rest of us? My friend, come on, now we're just trying to make an honest living over here in Bristol. You guys.

"Put your defensive back hat on because for those that are unfamiliar, we represent really wrong in the show. Chef D is the only well RC may have gotten once too. But chef D picked off Tom Brady in the end zone. In the end zone shaft team, how about that's not even nice? Well, feel I wish we played the touchdown catch from Tom Brady as I always say. I think I'm the only person in history that's caught a touchdown from Tom Brady and picked him off. There are many people who can say that and I don't have many athletic claims to think. So if I can lay my flag in that one, I'm good with that. I tell you what, I mean, seriously. As far as athletic resumes go, I mean, I like walk to 5 K recently. That's about as athletic as I get. So well done by you. And we're shifting our C and Nico are like, guys, we're like literally long time NFL players with rings. Come on now. Training camps are just about a month away. The bills are raiders with the first teams to have their rookies report. That takes place on July 18th, 8 more teams have rookies report on the next day, and by July 26th, every team will have their full roster reported to camp, which brings us now to quick breeds and let me ask the two guys here. Which of these training camps would you most want to go to ninco you get first dips? I want to go see the Pittsburgh Steelers. I want to see how that quarterback competition shapes up. I want to see what it looks like after Big Ben and really you got a great head coach that's going to lead these men to kind of saying, look, we're the underdogs here. Nobody's counting us to be in this division race. Let's go out here and surprise some people, so I'd really like to be at that training camp. I want to see the competition with Pickett and trubisky. Man, I wouldn't have picked a pass if I knew Niko was going to pick the Steelers out of y'all some flavor. But I want to go to the New England Patriots camp and figure out how the hell you run offense with don't nobody who know how to run the offense. Is it just going to be Bill Belichick? Matt Patricia and then we're going to see Joe judge. We know that Matt Patricia and Joe judge can't get an offense to run correctly because we watch them with the Giants and the Detroit Lions. It's going to be all on Bill, so I want to see how they're going to practice. How are they going to continue to help Mac Jones be better? So hold on now. We have a former patriot. And a former steeler taco. By the way, our sea, like I can see ninko wanting to rock the two 5, RC would never be caught dead in Jersey number 50. He's got way too much confidence in swagger. We're wearing that number. Absolutely not. Nico actually pulled it off nicely. I had interceptions too. That's not a bad gig, you know? It did work out for you. Pretty well, Niko. You did pull it off. 50 would be too big on my chest. Yeah, way too big. Back to our bold statements in the Jets have added a lot of pieces around Zach Wilson and offense, so here's what jets lineback receiving Moseley said to AL dot com quote I'm really expecting playoffs or bust. Obviously that's my goal every year, but I think it's something that's a realistic goal for our entire team and our coaches. So the jets could draw some inspiration from the Bengals last year as that was another team that exceeded expectation with a second year quarterback. According to the football power and next, the jets currently have the lowest chance to make the postseason and AFC. So entering 2021, the Bengals had the 28th best chance, but of course surprised many of making it all the way to the Super Bowl. All right, RC I'll stop short of the Super Bowl for now, but you bind the idea of the jets making the playoffs. You know what? About the idea of the idea. I don't necessarily know that the jets are a team that's going to compete to be in the playoffs, especially we looking at the Buffalo Bills, the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins, Miami Dolphins have improved. Obviously we know what the Buffalo Bills are. But the jets are going to be a far improved team this year. I expect them to be much better on office. They added some skill position players and also some blocking up front that allows Zach Wilson to take that next step into being who he needs to be and who he has to be for this team to win. And so I'm excited about seeing where they go, but let's not just jump to the playoffs just yet. Okay? Temper expectations. All right, well, let's move to the league at large. As early this week, I wrote a piece on ESPN dot com overviewing one team that each NFL team, one move each NFL team should consider making before the regular season gets going. With the cowboys, it was signing franchise tag tight end, Dalton Schultz to a multiyear extension after his breakout year in 2021. Our scene to me, the deal should get done the number should be easy. What do you think on this one? Well, listen, I think the numbers could be easy, but you're not going to look at paying dotes and shows at least to me top tight end money who now if you listen to George kittle should be getting with wide receivers are getting. I believe this is a deal that finds him in the top 5 of tight ends as far as the money goes and it should be easy, but they shouldn't stress themselves on Dalton shows. Did he have a breakout year? Absolutely. Is this a guy that's a must have to continue building your franchise around for years to come? I don't necessarily believe that field. I believe they can find another guy to do this if the price isn't right for Jerry in the cowboys. As for the Buccaneers Gronk, of course, has retired, so it's sensible for them to look at some depth at tight end specifically a veteran, a guy to play alongside camera ring. Think about some of the names available. Kyle Rudolph, Jared Cook, Eric Ebron, amongst them. What do you think, ninko? I mean, maybe Rudolph, but listen, there's a reason why guys like, don't grow on trees. You just can't find a dude that's gonna walk in that building and block like drunk. So again, they could figure something out in the running game. You could bring in an offensive lineman. You can do some stuff there to kind of bridge the gap on grunk in the running game, but you're not gonna find a guy even close to rob in free agency right now. So I don't know. They could probably figure it out for the running game. You're not gonna find a guy in the passing game, anywhere close to the level of Rob Gronkowski. Let's go to Tennessee, where the Titans traded the way AJ Brown, the cut Julio Jones. Now they did add Robert Woods via train and they drafted trailing Burke's 18th overall. I think they need one more veteran wide receiver. What do you say RC? You know what? I actually believe you too, Phil. I think this would be something they have to do. Think about some of the struggles trailing Burke's has had just in this off season. Robert Woods coming off of an ACL tear. If you can add that one veteran and understands getting open understands, creating space to make it a little easier for Ryan Tannehill because you know you're going to have a great run game with Derrick Henry and that powerful offensive line. But getting another weapon on the outside that could be instant offense for you or at least reliable offense would be huge for this offense. It's about this team in Tennessee. It feels like a passing league right now. You know, the rams, they've done done basically everything this off season, but perhaps the cherry on the top of the Sunday would be bringing back Odell Beckham junior, of course, finished hot last season before tearing his ACL in the Super Bowl makeup. It was great last year. What do you think? I like it. I like to bring back OBJ, but there'd be only one condition. I don't want them to play until basically the playoffs. I've seen guys have injuries like an ACL one time. I've seen them come back twice. I really haven't seen it. The third time. So I want him to take his time. I want him to recover fully because I don't even want to put it out there, but take your time, recover, get yourself ready to go, come in for the playoffs. I can't wait to see him back on the football field whenever that time comes. Finally, go to Denver and after trading for Russell Wilson, I think the Broncos need to evaluate whether.

"Coming up on NFL live, we dive into the appearance that steelers head coach Mike Tomlin made on the pivot podcast RC, of course, one of the hosts, it's a must listen, and then if you haven't heard, Jimmy Garoppolo still afford niner. Baker Mayfield still a Cleveland Brown, we're less than a month away from training camp. The question is, how much longer will these guys be with their incumbent teams? And with that, we say, well, welcome to NFL live, it is a Friday. We have a great crew you see them up there left to right, Ryan Clark, rob nikov and Adam Schefter, and I am field Yates and we begin today's show with the latest on deshaun Watson as the browns quarterback is still awaiting potential punishment from the NFL as a result of 24 lawsuits alleging sexual assault, 20 of which were recently settled. So let's turn to chef D and obviously this is the story that has percolated the entire off season shifty. What's the latest on a potential timeline from when we could hear about punishment for deshaun Watson? Field when you talk to people around the league, they believe it's possible for there to be a decision on this as early as next week. And so deshaun Watson begins to be put on the clock for next week. It doesn't mean we will get something. Clearly before the July 4th holiday, but it certainly is in play and it is possible that we could hear from the NFL from the NFL PA, the NFL PA, obviously, is fighting against the NFL imposing a lengthy suspension upon deshaun Watson, which certainly looks like it's the NFL's wish at this point in time. There's a wide range of outcomes here available, but clearly the NFL with Lisa friel leading the investigation will recommend a lengthy suspension, the NFL PA will fight against that and it could ultimately come down to Sue Robinson to disciplinary officer and this particular case to impose what she believes is the right discipline on deshaun Watson at which point either the NFL or the NFL PA could appeal that discipline. But the NFL would like there to be a lengthy suspension in place. And this is the most high profile situation since Roger Goodell and the last CBA was negotiated in which he is no longer the person who makes the decision on the punishment and also can potentially serve as an arbiter on a potential appeal. We'll follow that one as the browns open the season against the Panthers in Carolina. Let's go to the NFC west where debo Samuel reigns a 49er despite a public trade request made just prior to the NFL Draft. John lynch, their GM has made it clear he has no interest in trading Samuel, who merged as perhaps the league's most versatile offensive player last season. He's also extension eligible he has now been in the league for three seasons. His teammate, George kale appeared on the great bustle with the boys podcast hosted by Taylor one and will Compton. Here's what he had to say about the Devo situation. I know, quote, I know nothing. I haven't talked to John lynch, Kyle Shanahan, or debo about it. All I know is that in hindsight, I would have paid deebo three quarters of the way through the season, try to do a contract in season for sure. Probably would have been cheaper. Something crazy could happen. I could be eating my words in two weeks, but niners have done every major content. Mine, Fred warners, the week before the season started. So my guess is, within three weeks we'll have, we'll hear news of it, but I have no idea and quote. All right, so chef. George kittle, maybe stopping short of taking your job here as the insider, but where do things stand right now between the forty-niners and deebo Samuel? Well, look, field, here's what we do know. The draft came and went without the forty-niners trading debo Samuel. We also know that he showed up at the mandatory mini camp. He didn't do a whole lot, obviously, but he was there. And the fact that he was there enabled both sides to have conversations that would make you think that George kiddo may be onto something when he says he could see a deal come together shortly before the season begins. Look, the forty-niners want to pay Devo. He is back with the organization. I think some of the bad feelings have subsided some. I think some of the hot air has been deflated here. I think that there's been a cooling of tensions that enables both sides to move ahead and get a deal done. And even though I don't know anything either, I'm with George kittle when he says he could see a deal getting done before the start of the season. I don't think that would surprise anybody what other great option is there for deebo Samuel other than to get a deal that would make him one of the highest paid wide receivers in the league and put him in line with some of the other big wide receiver deals that have gotten done this off season. Well, chef, if kittle, who is arguably the most complete tight end in the league, also starts to become a news breaking NFL insider. We could have some problems for you, chef. That guy has many, many talents, potentially. Fields. George kittle should watch out for the way that I go across the middle and the target I can be in the red zone. That's all I'm telling you right now. I believe of if I'm not mistaken, I know you've intercepted Tom Brady. I believe you've caught a touchdown pass from Tom Brady as well. We'll get the tape out on that one at some point here in NFL live. Let me ask you this RC. Does debo Samuel need the forty-niners system more, which made him a star he was last year or the forty-niners need deebo Moore who, again, might be the most versatile player in the NFL and offense. Hey, listen, now let's get this straight. They both need each other. This isn't a situation where you can go to a terrible organization and flourish, or if you're the San Francisco forty-niners, you could just find deebo Samuel just hanging out on the corner and bring them into the facility. But I do believe that deebo Samuel needs Kyle Shanahan more he needs this offensive system that understands how to use them, put them in, put them in the backfield. Get him the ball on screens. Jet suites, also reverses, allowing him to play running back. They truly use him to the greatest limits of his potential. And that's why I think he should stay there. Work out to do, get the money that you deserve and that you have earned, but continue to be on a team with a coach that understands how to get the ball to you in the right positions at the right time that has allowed you to flourish and become one of the best wider receivers are actually just best playmakers in their entire NFL. RC I agree with you, man. I think that they do need each other, but listen, the cat's out of the bag on deebo, if you are another team and you saw the things that he was able to do last year out of the backfield, the missile motions, the reverses, the gadget passes. All those little things that he is able to do in the impressive part is the run after catching contact. He is explosive. So with a young quarterback, they're going to have a second year quarterback in there. So he needs a guy an outlet to throw the ball to quickly. Deebo is going to be the guy. So I do think they need each other, but the league is all noticed in the league understands what he can do. So if diva was, let's say in Miami, I bet you he'd be pretty good. So I really think that they're going to work a deal out here. He's going to stay there, but another team would love to have a guy that has that much talent. Well, it's been the off season of major wide receiver deals, perhaps eventually a debo Samuel deal gets done. Ninco mentioned that second year quarterback, of course, referring to Trey Lance, who at least appears set to take the reins as the starter in San Francisco. Defensive lineman arc Eric Armstead, this to say, on the Jim Rome show about Trey Lance. I'm expecting great things from him. I'm excited to see what he's going to do, but he's not alone when he takes the field. Our team is very talented, and it's not just the Trey Lance show. He's surrounded by a lot of talent, a great players, and we're all going to go out there and do what we can to help us win games. It's not just going to be on his shoulders and quote. All right, so RC. It's actually a good point bar. So I probably gets lost in the wash often, but how important is these forty-niners defense for the success of Trey Lance at quarterback? You know what I love, man. We get these guys to say things and then we think that they are revelations. What he's saying is what the San Francisco forty-niners have already been. The San Francisco forty-niners are 18. Let's not act like they're going to trade Lance and.

"Out with it. Listen, you know it's true. Nah, man, no doubt. I was waiting on you to get the defense because that, listen, I'm high on the Los Angeles charges because of that. They not only added players, they added experience. They added game change type players that can make plays all over the field with Khalil Mack and JC Jackson coming over. Coupled with both so who is already an elite password for one of the best defenders. The charges right now is sitting at number one because of this defense for me. Again, I can't wait for the AFC west. If I only could watch AFC west games this year, I would still be a happy football fan. It's time now for one more thing as we always end the show. You think about the all time great wedding crash or do you think Vince Vaughn? Owen Wilson and Odell Beckham junior? Though I just invited the captains from last year's team. And then there was a couple other guys that are retired players that you still have great relationships with. And Odell and I had a great relationship. I mean, I love Odell. And so only in Odell's fashion could he be the wedding crasher at our wedding. So that's the wedding. And I love that he was still there. He is, you know, even my mom, she said, oh, he's so nice and God, he is handsome in person too. While hotel crashed a wedding, I'm shorter was a moment where he said coach, come get me. The best part? No, I said, you crashed my wedding, you resigned with the rams then, man. I mean, that's a given right there. But one of our team doctors who's amazing, doctor Neal Ellis was there. He did Odell surgery, you know, and Odell was looking smooth on the dance floor. He said, oh, they'll take it easy, man. Let's slow down. Swagger, I love it. If you crash and cut his way, you got to at least consider coming back, right? Absolutely, man, but it speaks to what we were talking about. The right type of dudes and the report. This is a part of winning the Super Bowl. That's phenomenal that crashed the wedding. Yeah, listen, I love that. The only thing I'm trying to figure out is, like, there's no honeymoon. I mean, field like, can you clean it up? No, honeymoon. And it felt live is back tomorrow. How would you love a chance to save some money on car insurance? Geico can help. "Being good with their team. And I think the reality is you go down that list of guys that Markus mentioned from Leonard Floyd. Even Dante Fowler, you know, at one point. OBJ, remember. He was on the street when they signed him. Like, these aren't guys that necessarily were coming from situations where they were having a ton of success. There were some issues there. Jalen Ramsey had disgruntled employee in Jacksonville, turned into a great player. Choosing the right player matters because we've seen Washington used to do it in free agency where they'd go make a big splash and sign guys. But they didn't end up being the right guys. Philadelphia had the Dream Team once upon a time. Didn't work. I think you also have to give them credit for doing a good job, you know, in terms of their research on the players they sign. Yeah, player evaluation still the essence of roster billion. Let's pivot to the most impactful players in the NFL as determined by swag. No quarterbacks allowed on this list. I gotta figure AD figures into this mix somewhere. So who's number 5? Baby face, I love Liz. And I love doing them in the off season and I'm going number 5 Trent Williams, the left tackle for the San Francisco forty-niners. We know how important training is to not only protecting the quarterback, but this scheme and how they use them. It was a tackle that ran reverse motion last year on blocks to create running lanes and alleys. It's a young quarterback in San Francisco. Having Trent Williams out there on the left side of the line of scrimmage, it's gonna make Trey Lance Bill a hell of a lot comfortable. I'm going number four, my man TJ watt. Why did baby when you start talking about game changers when you talk about dudes that actually impact wins and losses? TJ watt does it as at a higher level as anyone in the league. Not only pressuring guys dropping in coverage, tipped and batted balls, making timely plays. You get determined being great pass rushers when it's third down and critical gain situations and you can go make a plate. TJ has shown us that time and time again and leading a defense that still kept the Steelers afloat when they struggled offensively. Three. Aaron Donald. Aaron Donald, look, we just talked about him. We know he's off the charts. We know that he's a guy that when we talk about the summation of the NFL, he's going to be in the conversation as one of the top ten players that ever walked on the grass. But when I think about impact, he literally is the reason they won a Super Bowl this year. He's the reason that they closed out a game against the San Francisco forty-niners. Everybody talks about the play making, but also his allowance of other guys to make plays as well. Not a coincidence. Number two, I'm going with the man child in Tennessee, King Henry. Listen, AJ Brown just departed. We all know what the situation is going to be in Tennessee, but everybody's known that for three damn years. Derek, here we are going to get the ball. Can you stop it? And the answer to that is no. You can not. As much as they try to stack the box, bring in a 12 player and try to blend the referees and lie to them. Let you don't have too many players on the field. Still don't matter. They're here to bust his head on the goalpost and run for one 80 in the game in three touchdowns. They're number one, debo Samuel. It's a guy that we just talked about. Tim pointed it out. Ten yards after he touches the football, no matter where he is. We saw in crunch time last year in the playoffs, it wasn't Jimmy Garoppolo with the ball. It wasn't kittle. It was get debo Samuel, the football, and they almost ended up in the Super Bowl because he was phenomenal. Not only did he run the ball out of the backfield, reverses, he caught the ball down the field, 18 yards per catch, okay? So when you start talking about importance of guys outside of the quarterback, to me none more important than deebo Samuel and what Kyle Shanahan is doing, but without these guys on this on this screen right here, these teams have no shot at getting into the playoffs and really having an opportunity to win a Super Bowl. Believe it. I'm just my list. If you're mad about it, make your damn old. I was gonna say, I'm smart enough to know. I don't challenge swag you a most football matters, but swag you, no Ellis, you guys on this list. Have you gone out of your mind? No, no LSU guys, bro, I just go with the guys that I think, man. Look at that. And this is a hell of a list, baby, face you came. You came deny that this is a hell of a hell of a list. And I showed a lot of position groups love. You're too good of an analyst to even incorporate your own college into the list. Well done by you objective as always. And of course, debo. Number one on your list. It's in the news today because he showed up at Ford niners mandatory mini camps. Let's get to some quicker reads with JD, starting right there in San Francisco, Jeff. That's right field deebo Samuel out on the field. You can see him practicing on the sideline, not really in team drills, but definitely getting some running in a little bit of a surprise for some, but this does allow him to avoid an $88,000 fine if he were to skip the mandatory mini camp. We'll find out where this goes and if Devo Samuel still wants to be traded. Aaron Rodgers, meanwhile, shows up to mini camp, no surprise here. He had made very clear that while skipping OTAs that were voluntary, he did plan, of course, the B at the mandatory mini camp, and really an important one for him, no longer does he have the wide receiver thread at devonta Adams instead two rookies and Sammy Watkins on the field and throwing to those guys for the first time. So an important one for him. Tom Brady on the field with his team trying to get back to that Super Bowl again, the one player out there that we did not see that maybe some would wonder when he'll show up is the guy who's not even on the roster in Rob Gronkowski. Gronkowski still weighing his options for a potential return, but also avoiding the grueling off season at the same time. So maybe a little bit of strategy on the part of Gronkowski, the bucks do have about $12 million in salary cap space so they can certainly a four drunk housekeep should he decide to make his return. Business decisions, baby. Wait till training camp. Maybe even the end of training came to come back if you are going to I'm sure his locker is still ready. You mentioned Tom Brady. Well, speaking of Brady, running back Leonard fournette told the media today how the bucks quarterback recruited them back to Tampa earlier this off seats. Take a listen. I would just shopping around, man, just seeing what best fits me, you know, and when he signed back, he called me. He's like, man, he's going up there, man. I'm like, kind of figure trying to figure some things out. So he signed back, and it was no brainer, you know, why would I go back? Tom Brady, the ultimate recruiter, our ESPN bucks reporter Jenna lane is a great job covering the team and she was at the facility today and joins us now. Jenna, tell us more about what you saw down there in Tampa. Yeah, field Tom Brady did his fair share of recruiting this off season. He got Leonard fournette back. He got Ryan Jensen back, you know, he also has tried to get tight in Rob Gronkowski back, but as you heard from our Jeff Darlington, that hasn't really happened and then Chris Godwin, of course, remains sidelined with that knee injury. So he spent much of his first mini camp practice trying to figure out who else he can count on new faces throwing to the likes of guys like Cody McIlroy and jaylen Darden and at one point he was visibly frustrated on an overthrown pass attempt to Darden. I think that's besides Tom is the player Thomas as a leader. That's what he does. He expects perfection at all times. Granted, it's day one of mini camp and he has been here, but when he comes back, it's like that expectation has never changed. Any veteran that comes in a camp going to have new guys to work with every year at every position. So it's no different for him, but he's done it before. He understands that and again, it's day one. Yeah, it's going to be misconnections on both sides and as we get the camaraderie back in the chemistry back, that'll grow. And that chemistry did start to grow between Brady and Darden. They eventually got it together. By my count, Brady completed 13 of 17 passing attempts, he had a few more, but those my view was obstructed, but overall a solid day for Brady he did, however, have an interception from safety, Mike Edwards. And then as far as Rob Gronkowski goes, I've talked to folks inside the organization. They said there is no deal in place at this time, but they have kept in contact with him. Well, if they get him back and great stuff, Jenna, we know that would mean one of the most prolific quarterback receiver duos in NFL history would be reunited. They have a 105 touchdowns. The second most by any quarterback.

"Past two years when he was named the NFL's MVP. Let's go from Green Bay to the team that ended their season last year. Fortnite and the last time that anybody heard from deebo Samuel, it was Jeff Darlington. He loved in just a second when deebo told Jeff that he had requested a trade from San Francisco, the team has not obliged that demand, but you can see debo Samuel is at the team's mandatory mini camp that started earlier today, so let's bring in the man that last her from deebo. Jeff, what do we know about the relationship between their star wide receiver slash wide back and the organization right now? Well, field obviously, it feels like a good thing that deebo Samuel is out on the field, given the fact that, like you said, he did request the trade and when I talked to them, I got no sense that he ever planned to honestly put on a forty-niners uniform again. So even if it's for mini camp, that is a good sign. Now what is this accomplished? The first thing it does is it helps Devo avoid the fines that would come with missing mandatory mini camp upwards of $88,000 for the three day period. The other side of this, of course, is it provides an opportunity for dialog between he and the forty-niners. And even if it's not in the form of contract negotiations, when it comes to actual financials, it is about fostering a relationship that is right now considerably broken. Can that be repaired? Can it be fixed? That is probably the question of the remainder of the off season when it comes to the San Francisco forty-niners. Well, we certainly get why San Francisco is motivated to keep them around and mend that relationship because last year he was perhaps the most important and versatile playmaker in the NFL. Look at this. Out of 73 players with at least 50 catches last year, he ranked first in yards per reception in over 18 per catch and out of 91 players with at least 50 carries, he ranked fourth in yards per rush. All right, so swaggy. I know that you trust your eyes more than the numbers, but those numbers are eye popping. What do you make of what those numbers tell you? Those numbers tell me that debo Sammy is the offense for the San Francisco forty-niners. And what the playoffs told me last year is that in critical moments, depot Samuel was the guy that they wanted to have the ball in his hands. More so than their quarterback, okay? And when you talk about value, the reason why debo wants to be known as a wide receiver is because what we watch, then we just need Tariq to get a $150 million and devonta Adams get paid. Like crazy and still fun digs, re up a contract. That's why he wants to be deemed that babyface, but ultimately, when you look at this offense, right? And there's much credit as we give Kyle Shanahan 'cause he's phenomenal. Phenomenal offensive mind has done a tremendous job, has actually had a lot of guys look great in this offense. But ultimately, right now in 2022, deebo Samuel is the most important player for the San Francisco forty-niners. Yeah, most important player. Listen, you know, here's the deal. He's the best player in the sport with a ball in his hands. In the entire NFL. That's who deebo Samuel is. When you look at those numbers in terms of his production, when it's in his hands, when you look at the yards per catch, first in the NFL, but depth of target, 65th. So what's that tell you? When it gets in his hands, he's better than everybody else. Here to him. And they throw it to him a bunch within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. And look, here's what I'll say in terms of trade Lance's development and how Kyle Shanahan can use him. Kyle Shanahan's been the best over the last decade at manufacturing completions around the line of scrimmage within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage. And you have a young inexperienced quarterback manufacturing completions is important. But then you put on top of it, the fact that the guy who catches the ball can turn it into something great, that helps a quarterback even more. That's why I really think we've heard John lynch. Take a pretty solid stance on this in terms of debo Samuel, not leaving the building. What an off season it's been if debo Samuel is eventually traded, a crazy NFL off season would just get that much crazier. Don't do it, San Fran. Plus, and now to Miami Dolphins head coach Mike mcdaniel, talk about his lunch today. Spicy tuna roll. It's really just a medium for wasabi. I don't eat fish, but I eat sushi. Makes no sense yet. That's called a child that wasn't forced by his mother to eat food. And then in social settings in his early 20s in Houston, I was like, hey, this is kind of a cool scene. Raw sushi. Let's try it out. That's all it was. And I was like, hey, this is spicy. That's all I eat. Red gravy is my favorite condiment, which is all hot sauce. Wagyu, he may not be Dan orlowski, but your thoughts, unlike McDaniels food tastes. My first thought is I'm confused as hell. I don't know. I just, I got lost in the middle of it. Did he eat a spicy tuna roll? And then say he didn't eat fish, or was it no tuna in the roll? I don't know. Baby face. Y'all pose these questions to me like I'm supposed to get inside the head of a guy that sound like a crazy man when he talking about food. Food is simple, people. It's simple. If it's good, eat it. If it ain't, don't eat it. I don't know what the hell Mike McDaniels was talking about just now. I need that clipped off and saved somewhere. If it's good, eat it. So let's pivot from food to football because why not? Time to have a little read and react and we go back to Miami where our first year head coach Mexican Daniel with this interesting food decisions and comments was asked how his thoughts about tua his quarterback have changed. Now that he's actually seen him in action. As far as his game, I think his skill set, it tighter areas only enhances his ability. He's an accurate quarterback that really knows how to place the ball where he wants it to be placed. The work we have done have been very pleased Tim, what do you expect from two of this season? Listen, my expectations are that he has his best season yet. Look, the supporting cast is better. The offense in terms of scheme and how the coach puts him in a position to have success. I think will be better. I think there's an element for me. The two has been a little bit unfairly judged when you think about coming off the hip injury. You know, being in a situation competing against a 15 year veteran. Change that offensive coordinator dysfunction on the team. And so I think it's going to be a breath of fresh air for two months by low. Next up we go to Philadelphia where head coach Nick Steven spoke with São Paulo about a second year quarterback. Now third year quarterback, Jalen hurts. What I see is a crisper ball, the accuracy. I've been very pleased with. And so you can just see him taking strides every single day with his accuracy because of the fundamentals that he has with his feet and.

Yeah, we're gonna try something new. It's called a mock draft. Are seriously though our former colleague, Paul Zimmerman, the great late great Paul Zimmerman, claims to have invented the mock draft. With the first one appearing in the pages of the New York Post back in the 1970s, which would be really kind of cool, fun to go back and look at that. I like that you're a mock draft historian and I like you even better now that I know you're an ice enthusiast. Ice enthusiasts enthusiasts Gary fan, it's all there. Thomas says I'm a massive fan of your content, both strong opinion sports, and Zach schandler talking. And I'm a huge Giants fan from Australia, down under. I often wake up at 3 a.m. to watch games live and it's been a massive effort to do so these last two years due to how bad we've become as a team and organization. Yeah, 3 a.m. to watch a giants game, wow. My question for you is do you think Daniel Jones has a legitimate NFL future? I like how we brought in Tyrod Taylor this off season because I feel like he will really push DJ during camp and Tyrod has proven he can be a serviceable quarterback in this league if DJ doesn't work out. I personally think Daniel Jones can improve and be a good quarterback if given better protection and if our weapons around him can stay healthy. Example, Sterling shepherds take on Berkeley, Kenny gallaudet, Carrie Tony. I truly believe that if we moved off of Daniel Jones, he could go somewhere and have a Ryan Tannehill like resurgence. What are your thoughts on this statement? And keep up the great content mate, I appreciate you. Okay, here's what I'll say. Dana Jones has a ton of potential. I think you're right about that. I see a possibility where Daniel Jones becomes the franchise guy that we think he could become in New York. He's a great athlete, he's a smart guy. I'm very excited to see what Brian dabel can do with him. Brian Davis, a head coach now in New York. He was the offensive coordinator in Buffalo with Josh Allen. He developed Josh Allen into an elite quarterback. And Josh Allen worked his butt off did a lot of stuff with Jordan Palmer. It's not all the credit going to the coach, but the coach did something right there. And I could see a world where he does something right with Daniel Jones and Daniel Jones explodes and is really, really good. Because the ability is there. He fumbles too much, but he can run. I'd love to see him extend plays a little more, do some different stuff. I think with a good coach, helping him out and giving him advice and working with him..

"Didn't get deserves it. He's being used as a running back and a receiver getting hit a bunch, wear and tear is being put onto his body. It's going to shorten his career. And by the way, football careers are already short. I understand wanting to make your money before you miss your opportunity. He wants to cash out. He wants to make sure that when he's done, he can look back and go, I'm set for life. I took care of my family, took care of my kids, take care of my mother, my family, whatever. And he's on a rookie contract. He's made, I mean, for you and me, good money, but for an NFL player, he's nowhere near. The top. And he's playing like it. I support his desire to want to be set for life. I'm like, yeah, he deserves it. Pay him the money. Here's the problem. I don't think he's going to get paid his worth in San Francisco. There's basically no other player like him, and I think in order to get paid the way that's comparable to his special skill set. To get paid his worth is going to have to get traded. And this one's being telegraphed from a mile away. Look, again, tyreek hill surprised me. This is the one. I'm like, look, the signs are all there. He's not getting paid. His worth, he's getting used a bunch. He's sending a message to the team. I would love to see deebo Samuel in Miami. Can you imagine he gets to reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Mike McDaniels and Miami? Jalen hill, Tyree sorry, jaylen weidel, tyreek hill, deebo, Samuel, I mean, there's already no excuse for tua to be bad next year, but are you kidding me? How fun would that be? And Miami is already very interesting. If they can add debo Samuel, they would be must watch TV. And I want that to happen. I'm rooting for that. Can we make it happen? Can we get debo sandal in Miami? I'm not a dolphins fan, but that sounds the most chaotic and fun place to send him. He'd have an offensive coordinator who knows is how to use him and man. That is what I am very much rooting for. I want deebo Samuel to go to Miami. But I'm telling you now, I think a trade could happen. I would not be shocked at all. And you've been warned. I want to give a shout out to Kyle Brandt. Kyle Brandt is a broadcaster on good morning football. It's an NFL network show. Hey, Kyle, round.

"Indication of insecurity that you have to kind of manufacture all that bravado. So the forty-niners have that bravado. It's a genuine. I don't know if the rams have that bravado, so I'm gonna go with the forty-niners on this one. It's gonna be close. At forty-niners, every game that they play is like a bad sports movie. There's like real drama you say to yourself that you simply wrote this, it wouldn't be believable. So it's gonna be some sort of crazy ending. It's gonna be traumatic. It's gonna be chaotic, but forty-niners always seem to come out the Victor in those they're sort of comfortable in that chaotic situation. Well, thank you so much Matt, looking forward to seeing this NFC title game and in the meantime, speaking of movies, I think I'm gonna go off and do something I should have done a while ago and that's when you watch the movie Friday. Devo Samuel has never lost to the rams. He's 6 and O and his career. And the last time he faced this team, he showed off his versatility. He ran for a touchdown and through a touchdown pass. This third time around, will the rams have any answer for him? They thought they did. And this week 18 game, there was an early play in which Stevie Samuel ran to the outside and Jalen Ramsey zoomed up from his cornerback spot and just hammered debo Samuel. His toss to Samuel and debug gets popped backfield and Ramsey. Yeah. Came up to make the hit up in his face and it was the signal that the rams were sending that you are not going to push us around in this game. Then I remember debo Samuel. We've discussed his personality. He does not back down from those types of things. But I remember him just kind of, he had self control. He didn't talk back. He just walked right back to the hud. And they used that aggressiveness against them. And it was the same exact play. On which he threw that touchdown. So the rams were zooming up to get him on an outside run. He held back through the ball downfield for a touchdown. Samuel back into the backfield. He gets it going to throw it right open touchdown forty-niners Jennings. And fooled the very guy, jaylen Ramsey, who had delivered that blow early in the game. So everybody has gone into these playoff games wanting to stop depot Samuel. The cowboys certainly did. They had a lot of tough talk before that game. The packers certainly did. None of these teams have been able to. And like I said, this has been the theme since week one for the forty-niners. And opponents have figured that out early. They use him in so many different roles, though, that it's very, very hard to game plan against him. Definitely head coach Kyle Shanahan is using debo more and more as a running back it seems. He had a career high ten brushing attempts each of the last two weeks. And he did come out of last week's game a little bit banged up. Is there any concern that all the caries and some tough carries between the tackles are going to put too much wear and tear on a guy who does have some injury history? Yeah, absolutely. And I think that's a question for the forty-niners moving forward about whether this should be sort of a permanent role for debo Samuel, whether he should be sort of a quasi running back, receiver for the rest of his career, because running that does take a lot of abuse. The flip side of that is that he's like we say 220 pounds, which is big for both receiver and running back. So he can take a little bit more abuse, I think, then the typical running back does. And he certainly doles out a lot of abuse as well. My question is, you know, it's easy to get greedy, I think, as a play caller when you have a depot Samuel. You want him out there. I don't think he's going to overdo it this year, there are only one or two more games left, but I think that's a very good question moving forward. What is this guy's longevity if he is in this dual role for the rest of his career? Well, finally, Matt, looking ahead to Sunday prediction time, who wins round three between the niners and rams and moves on to the Super Bowl. I thought that the forty-niners were reaching the end of the road in Green Bay. I mean, they had one injury after another guys were limping around. They just seemed like they were finished. And heroically so. I mean, they had given everything. And yet they reached down and they grabbed something extra in that game. And they kind of showed their metal. They're toughness. And so I can't ever pick against them. There's always something in reserve that they have. There are very tough team and I think that they feel like the rams don't have that sort of toughness. I describe that kind of jaylen Ramsey scene early in that week 18 meeting where the rams were beating their chest and talking trash. That sometimes is an.

"You're like, dude, this guy's made of the right stuff. And I think that that kind of just was the icing on the cake for, okay, this is the guy that we wanna target when we're picking early in the second round. So they end up taking him in the second round with the 36th overall pick. But there was a challenge they didn't expect. Tell us how fitness plays into this whole story. That's right. At the time, when forty-niners were looking at debo Samuel at the senior bowl and certainly when he was playing at South Carolina, he was the right way. Their ideal weight for him was around two 13 to 12, which is what you would want a bigger bodied receiver to be. The issue is that in the run up to the draft, these guys, instead of working out in training, they're going across the country to interview with these teams who are considering drafting them. They're not in the gym. So people Samuel is somebody who can put on weight very, very easily. And so when he gets to the forty-niners, after they draft him in late April, and he's up around two 30 and Wes walker looks at him and says, oh, this is not going to fly. And so Wes Welker makes it his mission in life to shave away those pounds. So training camp is grueling as it is. And Wes Welker gets deebo Samuel to wake up at 5 30 every day and they go for a two mile run before practice. And then they sprint after practice, all in an effort to shave away those pounds. So they're working all spring on this. And deebo Samuel starts to shave away the weight, but gets to two 20 and can't get any lower. Try as they might, he is stuck at two 20. And so they go into the season with him at two 20 and he has a spectacular year. And they realize that, okay, you know what? Two 20 is good. Second and 5 drop a little fires over the middle caught Samuel The Rookie is inside the ten to the end zone touchdown forty-niners 42 yards the most Samuel picked in the second round over a hundred yards each of the last two games. Well after they got him into shape, Samuel ended up having a really strong rookie year, as you said. But then he had a really frustrating second season in 2020. Can you tell us about some of the setbacks he faced? This goes back to college, and that was one of the reasons he falls for the second round. He was so good at the senior bowl, but he did have an injury history at South Carolina, various strains, a foot injury, and that kind of crept up again in 2020, right before the season, he breaks his foot. And that just sends these players on a bad tangent. It means that they might be ready early in the season, technically healthy, but they didn't have the run up. They didn't have the spring practices. They didn't have the training camp practices. So when he is able to play, I think late September in 2019, he's not quite ready to play if that makes sense. And it's not a good encore to that rookie season that he had in 2019. And the forty-niners don't. I mean, it's very symbolic of their year. And this frustrates him. And he gets the look as it were coming out of that year and getting ready for 2021. And he.

"The O. So Matt, I want to start this with a fill in the blank question. If I had told you, back in November when the niners had a three and 5 record that this team would end up in the NFC championship game, you would have said what? They would have been watching the NFC championship game from their house because they were struggling at that point. They had injuries, and this was a very forty-niners thing to be injured in maligned before the season really got underway to be out of it, really, before it got to crunch time. So everything was kind of falling into a lot of previous forty-niners seasons. And there was one guy on this team that kept the forty-niners afloat during their kind of struggling period. And that guy was debo Samuel. He was there everything guy. The guy who took a third of the past targets, which was the highest in the NFL at that point, and who accounted for nearly half of their offense. So he was their rock, the guy that got them through a difficult first period of the year. Well, before we get into deba Samuels, origin story, we want to look for a second at the niners dramatic 13 to ten when in the freezing cold over the packers last Saturday night. Can you tell us about debunk Samuels impact on that game? It was a nice microcosm for the season because they relied on him and so many different ways. We had three catches for 44 yards. He had ten carries for 39 yards. And these aren't gaudy stats, but in a game like that where offense was so hard to come by 13 to ten final score, no offensive touchdown by the forty-niners. It was huge. And this was, to me, the most indicative of what debo Samuel has meant to this team this year. After the two minute warning, the forty-niners are at their own 45 yard line. And they need to get to say the 35 to have a realistic shot to win the game. Games tied at that point. These are their play calls, passed to debo Samuel, run to debo Samuel, run to stevo Samuel, run to Devo Sano. Deebo gets it. Samuel breaks a couple of tackles doing it all first down inside the 30. An amazing night continues at the end of an amazing season for deebo Samuel. At last run the longest of the game for him 9 yards, which essentially sets up Robbie gold's game winner as time expires. After that win, debus Samuel did a TV interview where he talked about the trust that head coach Kyle Shanahan has in him. Have a great great relationship and you know what I'm saying? I trust him just as well he trust me. Making that third down call on 36 win the ball in my hand in a running blade just know everything I'm capable of. When did that trust start with you and Kyle? I've been there. It's just been they just got way better. It seems like this guy is kind of the heart and soul of this forty-niners team. Quote, the forty-niners indispensable man as you called him in a recent story. And in that story, Matt, you talked to a stepmom precious Martin to find out how he became this force on the football field. And the first warning sign was actually when he was a baby. Can you pick it up from there? Yeah, I mean, his name isn't debo. His name is taishan. That's his given name, but it quickly became depot. And I knew about the origin story of this nickname and I knew that as a kid he was very aggressive. And he kind of took things from other kids. What I didn't realize is that it was so early. I mean, we're talking baby. We're talking infant that he was doing this. And you can sort of see this in his own son, he just had a baby boy nearly 9 pound baby boy, so I think debo senior was the same way a big baby can hold a bottle right away. So these babies were kind of grabbing things. Anything that was in their orbit, they grabbed and took. And so they were doing this to other kids and so his dad said he's just like debo from the movie Friday. The boy who comes and snatches your bike or whatever you have on you at that point. What's up, Brad? Thanks for the bite. You got my 40 on me. I thought you had $200..

"Ways with kenny stills. Yeah but yeah. I mean i guess cobb would be the the standout may maybe jordan akins. Nothing being relevant tight. End right now outside travis. Kelsey and the occasional baller waller like around on kiki. I don't see all right. Josh kiki love. Before i saw a blurb that's said and i hope getting this right but i think they said isaiah coulter was expecting to step up and get some more. Get some more action on that team are. We'll see i. I think that. I think that the shawn watson is probably like one of three or four quarterbacks in the nfl actually get enough to drag along wide receiver. You know were. I think it's usually vice versa. So yeah i. I'll i'll pick up this isaiah culture guy of the of the this guy will pick this guy up. Yeah and i know i know. People are always looking at waivers. And they're always looking. You know to try to get some either stop somebody in the playoffs from picking up somebody or to block the will you know the willfuller guy from getting you know a new replacement that they like. So yeah i mean you can add any of these guys but you know expecting anything of them yet. You know who knows right. We'll see how that plays out For sure yeah for sure all right the last can you do it again. For the last two weeks in a row philly has had two tight ends in the top. Ten tight ends and pr. Can they do that again. Atom yeah titans. Decimated in needle have wide receivers. So yeah i mean it's not a good offense that is not how you should optimally run offense by any stretch of the imagination. But it's how they're gonna run. They don't really have a lot of their options there. It's so fascinating. How quickly travis. Fogel died Yeah i mean. I was gonna say you say they don't have any other options. I mean they have jalen reagan they have to have is but it's just not where they're going out of his. Yeah i mean it's they. Though win you know goddard. Ertz were healthy. Early in the year and richard rodgers now is became. You know another option for them so it is interesting but that that's how they wanna run that offense and more power to him. I mean it's it's an interesting offense even if it's not a successful one end for tight ends that made at this point you gotta start anybody who's scoring points because there's so few people that are so for both those guys the man you do a lot worse going into the fancy playoffs josh. Geballe richard rodgers like. Would you trust them. No not really curious curious. you know. maybe i'm wrong about that. But i richard rogers to me just feels like a guy that the switch could get turned off at any moment you know what yes accurate could come back next week and yeah. It's very easy for that ad. Your problem for him. Can we say here on the show that he deserves to be called. Mr rogers going forward is definitely the best roger. He's earned it right. He's mr rogers. Josh hayes the aaron rodgers guy you know you not a fan of consider. The they used to play together josh..

"In going going for a touchdown. Fourth Depot Samuel for six. Debo Samuel, the rookie last season made a huge impact in the playoffs. If you watched it all You're very familiar with that. He was a darling for a lot of folks out there. A guy who Plenty of people thought would be a huge breakout star. This year, he suffered the Jones Jones fracture in the off season, though there was some maybe a little bit too much optimism about Debo. Maybe getting on the field in week one. That is not the case. He was placed on injured reserve yesterday, which means he will not be able to return for at least three weeks. So Deebo Samuel, and the reason I bring him up to is because In Kyle Shanahan's offense. You want the wide receiver who's going to be running out of the ax? He feeds. He's traditionally fed that position a lot of receptions and Deebo Samuel looked like he could be a real game breaker if he got the opportunity to play. I still like Deebo Samuels upside going forward, But just to let you know he's not going to play today. He's out for the first three weeks, so you have to make some alternative plans. And since we're on that game, San Francisco Arizona Worth keeping in mind. The air quality due to the wildfires in the Bay Area and across California is something that needs to be monitored. It is a a an afternoon game, 3 25. There's a chance that the game could be moved. Although The last thing I saw last night was the Air quality index, which, if it's above 200, I believe the plan is the game will be postponed. But right now it is calling for around a 1 76 and again. A somebody who is not a weather aficionado Tyler AKI on the other side, the board laughing at me. I'm learning this as we go, But so the air quality is not going to be great. Something to keep in mind if you're looking at some of your other alternatives. It's going to be AH, weird game. If they play it. I don't know what to make of it. I don't know how much that will impact players if they actually do go off without a hitch. Just something to keep in mind If your may be on the fence at all, it might be worth staying away from. If you have so again week one, not a ton of injuries, So if there's something you're thinking Do I go with? You know, do I want to start Christian Kirk or fill in the blank? Maybe you stay away from Christian Kirk. Just because of that, just because we have no idea what we're dealing with out there in Santa Clara. San Francisco. All right. So again, 3123323776. This is the fantasy football show. I'm your host, Jeff Miller. You can follow me on Twitter at Jeff. Underscore Miller. That's me. L l E R one more injury than your calls. First.

Breaking down Trent Williams' trade to the 49ers
"Trent Williams dealt from the Redskins to the forty Niners for five today in a three next year and we're breaking it down as you just heard the guys drafted by Kyle Shanahan and Trent Williams is a talented guy and if you look at the forty niner list of to do list today are coming into this traffic should say replacement for Buckner check can log the impact wide receiver who can start opposite Deebo Samuel check brand in the UK left tackle replacement for Joe Staley check Trent Williams would yes thanks I I I mean it it's it's it's it's pretty awesome I mean I I'd be it can't be that simple I mean can you just can you just go in the draft in in it that you would think is what you're supposed to do you you you you talk about the team that you know the one that wins the NFC west you go to the Super Bowl you miss the Superbowl basically by one play and and and you want to get better and I think after the Superbowl in after free agency you you start thinking whether the team is not as good as they used to be I think if you look at the team now I mean you would have to think that you know they are as good or better then they were going to the Superbowl yeah I I mean you only hold off on saying that is because we haven't seen this combination of guys play together yet put Trent Williams is a like I just got a text from our buddy Kevin Francis a good pick great pick
Hail to the Chiefs
"All right so this was an incredibly even matchup but at the end of the day a clear. Oh you're winner emerged Jaylo well and Shakira like let's let's give her due to Yemen Jaylo whatever. She's whatever over she's taking to look and move like that at fifty you know we can all take a lesson from her and And who knew she could move on a pole. It is kind of funny that you know. So how many years. After the wardrobe malfunction we now just have performers on stripper Poles. All right so let's talk about this remarkable game I What was the vibe in the stadium before kickoff? Yeah I mean listen. It's the Super Bowl right. People are excited. I will say that there were a lot more chiefs fans then niners fans and that was kind of to be expected. That's how it's been in Miami all week I think ESPN projected before the game that it was going to be sixty seven percent Kansas the city fans which would make it the most lopsided attendance in history and it really did man. It felt like achieves home game. You had the chance and you know it was a sea of red. Obviously because both nighters and she's fans where red but but chiefs fans definitely were taking over and you could tell when they did the introductory lineups? You could tell. Whenever they they showed chiefs players are coming through the tunnel the stadium which get loud And conversely a lot of booing being whenever the camera would focus on the niners. And you know we've talked a lot in the buildup to this game this week about Kobe. Bryant he just is looming over the world of sports so largely right now now and there was a beautiful tribute to him before the game began. Yeah so there was a moment of silence before America. The beautiful and national and the national anthem were song on Four Koby daughter Jonah and the other seven victims of the helicopter crash. Sure Sunday's they will never be for each of the teams Rosters were lined up on their own twenty four yard line. No Mosh to Kobe's number twenty four as the moment of silence happened and a few players were also wearing purple and gold cleats during warmups. All right so this was expected to be a close game and the first half was incredibly. Even what jumped out at you from that first half. Yeah I mean the first half was super even obviously. We went into to the second half tied at ten The first quarter kind of gave you a setup of how this of how you thought this game was going to go you know. Both teams had strong drives early San Francisco got the running game going out of the gate with deebo Samuel But despite controlling the ball for nearly six minutes in their opening drive that drive only ends in a field goal the chiefs then come back to answer with a really strong drive heavily favoring Running back Damien Williams play action was really working for them in four achieves team. Who's WHO's running game isn't nearly as strong as San Francisco's? This was pretty key for them on that particular drive third and eleven and Patrick mahomes shows off the legs he takes off off and he appears to get the first down but then he fumbles after a hard hit pushes him back. So it's now fourth and one and Andy Reid. has this decision to make. Does he go for word on further on fourth and one it's early in the game. San Francisco's defense was the best in the league. This season on stopping fourth and one And kind of going into this game you know you don't really ever know what he's GonNa do on fourth down but he ends of going for it. And it's absolutely right call Damian Williams gets the first on a short run and Patrick mahomes eventually takes it into the end zone. Himself for the touchdown and the chiefs go up seven to three and early in the second. Quarter Jimmy Garoppolo threw an interception reception and the chiefs and up on a drive with another fourth and one and they go for it again. Yeah and it ends up being the right call again now. Let's remember that Andy. He read only went for it on fourth down ten times in the regular season and here he's gone for it twice in the first twenty minutes of the game so clearly. It's the Super Bowl. He's putting everything on the table and it ends up being the right. Call it results in points. The chiefs the cheesecake field goal. And they go up ten to three okay so at this point Jimmy. Garoppolo has just throw an interception. Forty niners are struggling a bit and it looks like they need a big drive to get back into the game and they get it they did. The the very next drive is really a statement driver San Francisco. The run game really got going. The five straight strong runs including a touchdown throw. Oh a play action pass to a very unlikely hero. Kyle used check the fullback. We got a fullback touchdown in the Super Bowl who also became the first player from Harvard? Ever to score touchdown in the Super
