Conversation with the head of mental health startup Frame Teletherapy

"Hey Candle. Thank you for coming onto the show they are having me. Yeah. It's certainly being a crazy period of time right now at the time of this recording, we're not only facing a pandemic, but also simultaneously a heatwave and wildfires here in California one could say is little bit much right now and in this little surprised that we're feeding a little bit more. Stressed and anxious than usual. I'm saying this because we couldn't have found a better time to record this podcast about Tele therapy and your business frame. Maybe you can tell us what frames all about. Yeah. So I am the CO founder and CEO Frame the mental wellness platform that makes it easier to connect with therapists mid different ways both in person and digitally we actually Offered to core services on our platform the first one is for people who I've never been therapy and just WANNA, learn a little bit more about it and for them we offer our digital discussions which are livestream conversations between licensed therapist and volunteer participants that you can watch anonymously from the comfort of your own home. So it's like a veteran or how should imagine. It. So basically, what we do is we wanted to create a way for people to see what happens in an actual therapy session. So it's completely free product. It's available to everyone in the country and these conversations mirror what a real therapy session would be like in real life. So we've on boarded in trained licensed therapists from all over the country they we pick different. Topics, and then we bring on volunteer participants. These are real people who share their real problems on camera and you can listen and we actually built a custom platform so that you can actually watch lives men. There's interactive tools where you can submit questions in therapist answers them for you at the end of the recession or if you WANNA watch on your own time. We have a content library of the past recorded sessions. Wow. That's great unlike just to give us an idea what what sorts of topics being discussed on their great asset because you again, I really wanted to create a product that sort of educates people not only on what happens in therapy the different types of therapies even work with also about the different topics and so. We really try to pick topics that are relevant to what's going on right now. So obviously, we launched actually during covid where a new startup and obviously it was a really hot topic right there to talk about working right home adjusting to life. We actually did a lot of topics around people who are losing their jobs during Cova did and now we shifted to. The black lives matter. Movement we we did a series on racial trauma and how it's affected different people from different perspectives, and now we've been really focusing of recently on burn out and how people are really sort of just feeling. So achieved and down about the current situation in the world in how you identify Burnett, and how you deal with that, right? Yeah I can. Totally imagine that with many of us actually working from home right now and not taking any vacation burn notice on the horizon for many of us exactly, and then we actually have a second service on a platform of for those that are ready to talk with therapist one on one we have a therapy matching service and we actually will match you as a therapist. Based on your personal needs. So you end you come onto our platform you answer ten questions we give you six options of therapist matches, facilitate free intro call. So you can call a couple of get a sense for me. Thank you connect with best and then you scheduled to our platform you do the video sessions or a platform and you pay for farm. So it's A one stop shop for therapy and how does like you matching algorithm matched me like what what do you like through those ten questions in how does that look actually on the therapist end? Yeah. So we spent a lot of time building out the matching algorithm. My co-founder sage grazer is a licensed therapist so that really helped but while we were building the product. We actually brought in about ten to twenty therapists and we interviewed them and we got a better sense for how they screen for clients in real life, and we use those inputs to help build our algorithm but I think another important factor of this is that you algorithms can't fully predict chemistry. So just like a dating APP, you go on multiple dates before you find. Your soulmate, and so we really wanted to create that experience as well. We're not gonNA just pick a therapist for you. So we really focused on getting the right types of therapists in front of you, and then we want to empower our users to pick the therapist and we're getting a lot of anecdotal feedback that saying I've actually called three or four of the. Therapists on the lesson. This one happened to be a college athlete and so was I. we really connected on that and those are just things that you're not gonna get an intake form on them out organically when you're having this conversation because it's really hard to judge a therapist just based on his profile resume, right? So I, I can totally imagine that you know approach. To Kinda Dede's a few therapists to find the right fit for me. Exactly and it's really about therapy is different than other doctors. You know when you're getting surgery, you kind of want to know where the doctor go to school and how many surgeries have been done when it comes to therapists. It's really about who do you feel most comfortable talking to I. Honestly. Couldn't even tell you where my therapist got her masters for around and you know I've been to some of the most you know world renowned therapists. I've waited six months to see them and you don't necessarily click with them. So it's really just about that. There is that sort of live interaction that you can. You can only feel for when you're talking to yourself rights.

"In this episode of be talking with Austin copy about the concept of zodiac sign cusps, whether they're real and what happens when you're born on a cusp. Hey Austin, thanks for joining me for this. Hey, chris. Hey, so this is yeah. This is a good topic. This topic of been meaning to do for a while actually glad to have you thought it would be the perfect person for this. Because of your approach that similar to mind in terms of having a strong background both in modern astrology an inch to strategy. And I thought we could have. Trinite approach this question both from a modern and traditional standpoint. Yeah. Yeah. I was really I was confused at first when you propose this because I thought you were talking about house costs. And then when I understood what your idea was. I was like, oh, that's actually great because there's such a wealth of traditional ideas of 'bout cusps. And exactly what they mean. And don't mean. And it's one of the, you know, it's one of those few things that's talked about all over the place, you know, in a sunshine context to that. We can actually bring a lot of the literature to bear on his wells earn experience and practice. Yeah. And so that's a good point that we're not talking about house cusps. This is an episode on on house division or anything related to that. We're talking about zodiac sign cusps and the concept of being quote unquote, borne on a cost and what that means. And some of the issues surrounding that that have sort of come up in pop strategy over the past two years. So I didn't realize that this was like a thing or that. This is a topic. I started seeing it come up maybe year year and a half maybe two years ago. Where what I was seeing as I was seeing more professional astrologers and symptoms intermediate or advanced astrologers responding to a trend that they were seeing in pop astrology where this new sort of concept emerged surrounding zodiac sign cusps, and initially I didn't understand why people were pushing back on it so strongly as they were. And what I was hearing his people were rejecting the idea that there's such thing as a cusp or they were saying the cusps aren't real or other things like that. And I I didn't really understand what they were trying to say or why they were doing that. And what I realized later is that a new sort of concept or that some sort of hybrid concept had emerged from pop astrology as a result of some of the 'ambiguities surrounding sunshine Dede's. So maybe let's take that start this from the top. So one of the things that sometimes people don't realize that sunshine, astrology only became popular really over the course of the past century, especially from. In the mid to late twentieth. Century, sunshine, astrology became a popular thing in pop culture and everybody knows their sun sign which is the sign of the zodiac that the sun was in on the day that they were born. But there's an issue with this concept because the dates very near the start and end point vary based on the calendar because the calendar is not exactly aligned with the astronomy. So there's some ambiguity when your son signed date is listed where sometimes the list, like a range of dates dates will change from one list to another something like that, basically read. Yeah. You I mean, and you can see the in most like newspaper newspaper as columns will be like, you know, Aries of March or March twenty first through twenty third to April, you know, whatever because of the right because the Gregorian calendar is not an exact of astronomical measure of where the. Planets are into three hundred sixty degrees circle. And we've got our leap years, you know, the the days of the year aren't even and so yeah..

"Uni acting work i've yeah yeah i've done but nothing nothing of significance along with oh yeah still cool but yeah 'cause you're kind of an all rounder around arts jackie traits i mean yeah i k k also kind of just became one of those things that i was lucky enough because of the commercials be singing on the commercials it is a part of sec and so you know i don't know what a lot of actors do to try to keep their health insurance is to do a lot of background work so commercial background work can actually be you know pretty lucrative as far as getting good day rates and it does help to keep your health insurance which is a very sexy topic but hard yeah yeah yeah that's an interesting story remember about getting a card throughout doing that sort of work i'd advise against it now the background work or card because the dues are more doozer in its yeah expensive thousand dollars because what happens is they get you in this thing so you get a taft hartley which means that like you you know you're a non your nonunion performer that gets you know that that wins the job or get the role okada union production so you have to get approval and you get a taft hartley so that means that you can join and if you have a tuft hartley you can stay taft hartley which means you get all the benefits of the union but you don't have to join but then if you get to more union bookings after that you're must join yuck cannot do the job and you ten get your pay and less you join buck and happen to me when i had was my third job and i had to it was the three day shoot and that day three i had i had i had to go ahead to join sag immediately as you would win i wouldn't be able to finish the paperwork yep just fuck you up then you're not going to be considered for things and stuff right yeah yeah because a lot of work now is non union because people just don't wanna go through 'em even though it's not really that crazy to go through the paper way to make your production union a lot of people just don't want to deal with it and now i mean mostly it's it's clients and and they you know agencies they don't wanna pay their clients don't wanna pay the residuals anymore it's better to just do a buyout and the thing with buyouts that are good actress say is like okay well if i'm if i'm getting five thousand dollar buyout for this you know deodorant commercial then i don't have to have like what what do they call it when it's like there's like you know you can't do another deodorant commercial compete compete so you don't have to worry about that kind of stuff with the nuns agent so and and there's so little union work now and they keep raising the amount that you have to make to to keep your insurance but you still have to pay the same amount in your dues it's ridiculous how does it work sham it's andrea zuckerman your no leader of mine work with ass cap and all that because you have song publishing etcetera i'm bmi okay so in that body mass index yes as my body mass index it's fitness and popes two making around asking the latest actually way songwriter my fat caliber with bmi oh wait for the for the commercial stuff just in general how does it work with like publishing deals or i mean i had a publishing deal for a couple years i don't know i mean if you're not with one of the majors i think it's pretty useless okay so you just kinda have to i mean i don't manage my publishing now because of the record the record deal that i have with the label so basically you sign over a piece of your publishing and then they kind of man for you but otherwise you know you have to register those things yourself but it's also something to do with music supervision rooms i have to be responsible for researching and registering all of the songs with the appropriate writers to the appropriate society for music supervisions for breakdown for listeners might not be familiar with it's basically every song that you hear.

"I was like i don't like i don't have to do it anymore i don't this is all meaningless now i just wanna i wouldn't go like okay it's probably like similar to like if you have a job you hate and you more project that's terrific one i'll take the f thank you when did you start singing in a semi professional or live setting or anything like that or recording professionally yep it's like two thousand two thousand eight i did have a band i had a band called skipping butts in middle school and been but yeah it was called skipping butts and wrote a song about how our middle school was infested with a specis because it was good little rhymes yes it was something like a specis a specis look up the specis and dr yeah but so you know we were i somehow tricked one of the teachers to let us perform at some pep rally and so we did it and she didn't know what it was on what the song was about and so we performed it and apparently one of the family members of the of a kid i went to school with was a journalist for the milwaukee journal i grew up outside of milwaukee and wisconsin and they decided to open an investigative report about this best is in the middle school so i got called into the office almost expelled was told to never perform that song don't talk about it stood up too much and then after i went off to high school a couple years after that they shut the school down because seemingly uncover this whole cross with you very cross they tried they tried to censor me in silence you they tried to hold shut them down yeah my god got your revenge did that's amazed revenge for some reason reminds me of a delightful evening that we spent at the new beverly which we've been talking about a lot on the show for the dario are gento i didn't make all night but you guys you guys did right i was there to the bloody end i think i made it through three maybe three it was the royal seal yes performed yeah that was a good time and then he went some soda terrorism as well what does that mean well i got a soda and you know it's an older theater don't really a cup holder situation but i had it over a head put it somewhere and i'm always worried about being cold at movie theaters especially ones that aren't the i pick because you know they give you a blanket and pillow i didn't even know that fucking i pick let's that i love i love it it sounds we'll see book club let's do the movie i most want to see right now my god we have to go to see have you seen the real housewives little fake ad that they've done for it yes okay sure because into it of course was terrible resume that you would be unaware of such piece of advertising i'm aware but i mean i i've been excited about book club for months to me it's like it's it's it's like this year's it's complicated or something's got get films that i always have on my laptop when i travel because when i fly it flying gives me horrible anxiety terrified of flying and so for some reason those movies are like natural xanax really bad turbulence and i get freaked out i just throw on a little it's complicated and diane keaton's little soothe because we were talking about member i was saying one of the things that i used to quelling site is a mediocre eighties drama d yeah yeah eagles is my goto jam for like wait i don't know wait what's never seen it i've never seen my god it was ivan ryan's i attempted a dramatic film really but there's elements of comedy in it it's debra winger robert redford daryl hannah daryl hannah plays a performance artist wait i know this movie it's yeah wait all darrelle has seen is incredibly fucking yes she just evan straights for robert redford incredibly it's fire fires fire lots of fun unrealistic you would love like terence stamp is in it as well as villain my thuc in front andrew show me that goddamn thank you simon and watch that tonight and i just recently watched fright night to again i forgot that she the whole scene the whole frequent women sorry the way listeners the performance night to we talked about earlier it was.

"Well i mean those were the days oh my god the money the money was insane at bury money like all those and then all the fucking pop song yeah yeah but i mean well people still made money writing music back to commercials just in general in general there was still money by with norman greenbaum spirit in the sky lived his whole life i mean yeah 'cause in in the in the last eight ten years that i've had all these commercials running i mean yeah you can you can easily live a very comfortable life that's incredible it is incredible dolly lorries thing like that's the dolly parton thing with the whitney houston thing oh my g i mean h crawling there was going to be another famous cover that never happened because she wouldn't sign over half of the publishing to colonel tom parker elvis presley wanted to do it but the deal that they had was if elvis covered your song you had to surrender fifty percent of the publishing and she was like exactly the snake colonel tom parker used to work elvis into the ground like hit elvis doing two shows a day sometimes three when he could have had him doing one and elvis never toured around the world really because colonel tom parker had some kind of like shady army history or something there was something he had some kind of crime record he couldn't travel yet kernels on parker had elvis completely wrapped around his finger it's bizarre damn snakes there's a lot of bizarre stuff in elvis presley story not least of which is the number of drugs in his system when he kicked it but yet you don't say yeah damning he had a lot you'd be really you'd be shocked really friskies in there too it's frizz and what's rhinestone was actually just declared the cover get your wings and he goes see that scarf there that's full of second all so i had a special scarf that had like a like a sewn in section that was just like little compartments for second all that's really smart to used to have i used to put crystal meth into little i pallets wow yes so any any of the any this is for the new the new crop drag race girls if you need to travel travel so the thing about i got a lot of you know i don't ever tell people travel with drugs obviously 'cause i had when i was coming from a stray area i was high on math and and i had to go to singapore from australia yeah and lots of long flight with with little a little something something and i noticed that on the little card they said there's a death penalty bringing drugs into singapore but there's not bringing i shadow talking to you the girls are traveling with a little bit of booger sugar or a little bit of whatever in you're going to do in those show wiggle show singapore you might want to just throw all that out in the toilet before you leave for the airport yeah might be able to score something in singapore you know or just push it on through have a nice little tail having cocktail on the booze yeah but it was it's so it's so easy to travel with small amounts of drugs and it really is especially if you've got a giant make you know the makeup kits yeah there's so much stuff in there rose the makeup kit of choice these days there's not it's just it's just like if they ever opened my makeup kit good luck good luck good luck happy hunting happy hunting there's there's all like you know you get a little compartment with you know you got the open the compact and there's.

"But or is it is it a man or woman i won't specify already said he but he yeah yeah it was he was jerked off by goes well we'll let him okay right because i'm very a little teaser okay yeah i i saw an apparition you did and then i later on i went down to the scene of the the the the scene of the scene completely scene of the penetration see i took up see was in the basement there's a laundry room and then a boiler there's a laundromat closet and a little boiler setup okay basement i saw it in the basement with my mother and while we were on a deck an addition i saw it clearly she saw a reflection of something and then later later i went back down there into off on my clothes in started to jerk off and i just wanted to like i wanted to get sexy with the ghosts to connect yeah i wanted to do next you wanted a sexy connection i wanted six tallow album yeah and there was no connection it was a missed connection it was a very miss connection and then boring fuck it was it was it was a deadly deadly yes a deadline and all the work i was doing all the work and lazy lover to be honest i couldn't really get hard oh can really get hard but it wasn't the chemistry is not there and then i play and then it was serious i was scared out of the room i felt a i felt a sense of get the fuck outta here bitch l so he had daddy issues she she really do i that's why you get it up maybe that's probably why i'm not gay oh okay you're married yes how long you been married for five years last week well happy anniversary being accused thank you what's the secret getting married getting married what's the secret to having an anniversary bursary being patient waiting for one more year to cry the cards we work with i think i think the secret is well you know it's it's a combination of many things but i think i think the main thing is that you actually have to like the person we what do you like the person you know what i mean but there has to be a friendship there there has to be a friendship there where you feel open to be able to be yourself and say what's on your mind and know that that's okay yeah not be self conscious be self conscious and nafi self absorbed and what about having your own time to oh yeah absolutely it's so important because you do work together as well we do work together not as much anymore but we still work together we both we both work at home we but but we have separate studio sure but yeah i mean we we always said we went through this intense period of planning the wedding renovating a house and working on an album together all within the same year and didn't each other and we don't fight it ikya so i really i think that's really that's incredible when somebody like i had a friend text me other day there's like sorry i couldn't come to vander pump day dog day we got in a fight at whole foods i was like red flag is i think it was he they got in a fight in the parking lot at whole foods didn't even get into the storm not even at the juice bar now fighting is so funny yeah when you're far enough away from i avoid fights at all costs just you just in a relationship or just general in general i just i just dip yeah i've just out i don't know i don't like confrontation doe now no but there's sometimes that leads to other problems like a simmering resentments and things yes sit it does leads to blow ups yeah crackups in explosions and emotions i would know anything about.
