"Ways with kenny stills. Yeah but yeah. I mean i guess cobb would be the the standout may maybe jordan akins. Nothing being relevant tight. End right now outside travis. Kelsey and the occasional baller waller like around on kiki. I don't see all right. Josh kiki love. Before i saw a blurb that's said and i hope getting this right but i think they said isaiah coulter was expecting to step up and get some more. Get some more action on that team are. We'll see i. I think that. I think that the shawn watson is probably like one of three or four quarterbacks in the nfl actually get enough to drag along wide receiver. You know were. I think it's usually vice versa. So yeah i. I'll i'll pick up this isaiah culture guy of the of the this guy will pick this guy up. Yeah and i know i know. People are always looking at waivers. And they're always looking. You know to try to get some either stop somebody in the playoffs from picking up somebody or to block the will you know the willfuller guy from getting you know a new replacement that they like. So yeah i mean you can add any of these guys but you know expecting anything of them yet. You know who knows right. We'll see how that plays out For sure yeah for sure all right the last can you do it again. For the last two weeks in a row philly has had two tight ends in the top. Ten tight ends and pr. Can they do that again. Atom yeah titans. Decimated in needle have wide receivers. So yeah i mean it's not a good offense that is not how you should optimally run offense by any stretch of the imagination. But it's how they're gonna run. They don't really have a lot of their options there. It's so fascinating. How quickly travis. Fogel died Yeah i mean. I was gonna say you say they don't have any other options. I mean they have jalen reagan they have to have is but it's just not where they're going out of his. Yeah i mean it's they. Though win you know goddard. Ertz were healthy. Early in the year and richard rodgers now is became. You know another option for them so it is interesting but that that's how they wanna run that offense and more power to him. I mean it's it's an interesting offense even if it's not a successful one end for tight ends that made at this point you gotta start anybody who's scoring points because there's so few people that are so for both those guys the man you do a lot worse going into the fancy playoffs josh. Geballe richard rodgers like. Would you trust them. No not really curious curious. you know. maybe i'm wrong about that. But i richard rogers to me just feels like a guy that the switch could get turned off at any moment you know what yes accurate could come back next week and yeah. It's very easy for that ad. Your problem for him. Can we say here on the show that he deserves to be called. Mr rogers going forward is definitely the best roger. He's earned it right. He's mr rogers. Josh hayes the aaron rodgers guy you know you not a fan of consider. The they used to play together josh..
Fresh update on "deebo samuel" discussed on Niners Nation
"Twenty twenty one. Here's what's happening with your san francisco. Forty niners we thought. Yesterday was going to be a big day for the team because it was the ipad at practice of the year. Instead it became a big deal for a whole other reason trae. Lance took a rep with the first team. Which is literally all it took for trae lance to start trending on twitter one rap and it might have also been the fact that he was thirteen of fourteen on the day. But still listen to this tweet from one member of the forty. Niners press corps. Who wrote quote trae lance just made a throw. I didn't know humans could actually make video game. Nonsense step up. Roll left across his body on the jump fifty yards in the air on a rope to a crossing. Receiver touched out afterwards. Kyle shanahan was asked about lance his day and said he didn't think that this could lead to trae getting more reps with the first team. I don't really look at it like that. Now that he had a decent day I thought he did good with his reps. Not perfect but I evaluate and everybody right now and not putting that kyle continues to downplay lances performance in practice. But i'll be interested to see if he reacts the same way after preseason games for his part jimmy garoppolo doesn't seem too worried about what lands is doing. Jimmy was asked if he starts to worry when he sees the rookie playing well at practice. No no jane gave you worried about a lot of things. You can start worrying about that stuff. I think offensively we've been playing well. I'm pretty happy with where we're at. Tradesman he's making plays you know like all we all got a long way to go and so it's just a we're just getting started here in camp and it will keep this thing rolling. I should point out. That garoppolo hasn't been particularly bad in any of his practices. He's been pretty much the same guy. he's always been. Which might be part of the problem. Perfect example lance drops back in the pocket. Fires that fifty yard strike to trench her field. I mentioned earlier while he's fading away. From the line of scrimmage garoppolo just isn't physically capable of doing that unless he suddenly picks that up. somehow i just don't see how he keeps the starting job. Let's go outside the quarterbacks for now a couple updates for you aziz al shy year was hurt earlier in the week but we got word that his acl is in fact. Fine kyle shanahan. Didn't really have an official diagnosis but did say that he'll be out for a couple of weeks. Jalen hurd and d ford were back on the field in pads participating in team drills which is utterly amazing and deebo samuel missed practice with what shanahan called soreness in his groin which is funny to me because just a day ago shanahan said that deebo was in the best shape he had ever seen him in. So there's that we always give you something to read something to watch and something. You might have missed something to read on this wednesday. The athletic is counting down the one hundred greatest players in nfl. History and fittingly tuesday's player was number. Forty nine steve. Young go check it out. There's a story in there that's loaded with great recounting of some prime moments in young's career and it's just a nice little trip down memory lane and i continue to say that if steve young played in today's nfl he would absolutely dominate something to watch keep an eye on nfl game. Pass if you happen to subscribe to that like i do. They got rid of the all twenty two film which is one of the.

"Kenny do that again. I ha- you know. Jarvis landry is a good player. So i feel like that needs to get thrown out there. I but a lot of on ours i this year. Yeah like his. You know his his targets. He had another eleven target game in week. Eight knows followed by a five and a to target game. It's kind of been up and down like that. So i think that you know we. We already knew. Jarvis was capable of of these epa games. I just don't. I don't think we're going to seem start to string two and three together. Yeah those games used to be a lot more. Consistent for jarvis man said You know play call in or whatever you may call. It has altered that and some sort. So you don't believe that he can do it he he can these capable of doing it again. But you're saying no reason to think that it's going to become a insist right. Adam do you agree that that that you don't have a lot of hope for that to be consistent or do you feel like maybe there is something happening here for him as much as i love to be confident in him you know. We saw the splash earlier. In the year from adele's well you know. He had a huge fantasy performance. One week. I just think this offense isn't built to support a passing game consistently a man. I think that they're gonna win on defense. They're going to win with hard nose running. You know occasionally they'll have these big blow games but the only thing that i can hope for is that landry has been playing banged up through most of the year and maybe the senate indication that he's starting to get healthy He's not miss eight. I don't know so even if he's playing through injury you know a lot of times. We don't know all the details as to how her to guy is you know they're playing. We think they're fine so it's possible might have just turned a corner But i'm not. I'm not super optimistic. Just because of how. That team runs their offense. Okay and i wanna make sure we hit on that because all was our fans jarvis. Landry you both highlighted. How excited you were to see the game..

"Not very many. Yeah i mean like you said if you look at Week nine. He played the chargers yet. Had eight carries sixty eight yards and a touchdown we tend. Denver had sixteen carries. Eighty one yards to think two touchdowns so like when he gets the. Those are the game three at the most opportunity. Even we five against kansas city. Seven carries sixty two yards. Get reception no touchdown that game. I mean he's still you know. If he would've got touchdown you would've looked at them differently. I mean he's add games where he's been productive and like you said you know reliable and consistent so we'll see like i said if he is the starter for sure. I'm not concerned with it like i. I do believe in it. Which is crazy because i hated him when he was a bronco And part of that is because bronco raider fan but the other part is everyone seemed to have loved booker when he came into the league. I don't know if you've forgotten that. But everyone loves booker when he came into the league. Everyone thought he was like the broncos next running back so you know it's an interesting thing that he's you know did he. Failed out you know. In in denver. Now is kind of like having this resurgence in in las vegas which is weird. It was royce freeman before roy. People wouldn't let go. They would not let go booker. It was crazy. who knows. we'll see what happens. but again that's just you know if it happens so let's move over to trust issues. I don't want to harp anymore. Injuries or Other breaking news worthy of you know as really digging deep into its ella. Let's get into trust issues. The first one we have here. The man of the episode will fuller without willfuller though. Brandin cooks is a must start wire. Receiver down the stretch. I already feel like adam hatem. Start right adam so you have to trust us for sure. Yeah i pretty much already had him as a must start. But this really cements it. I think the upside is totally there. Though i meant shawn watson going to slow down. He's still one of the best. Quarterbacks in the league and ran cooks has been very productive with him. Especially since they party with gary kubiak. So for me. Moving forward there without will faller. Seems like a dream. Scenario for brandin cooks owners. Lemme say this then. Josh adams just said he feels like it's a dream scenario. We've talked about before more talent doesn't mean a bad thing. It's a good thing right. Rising.

"In going going for a touchdown. Fourth Depot Samuel for six. Debo Samuel, the rookie last season made a huge impact in the playoffs. If you watched it all You're very familiar with that. He was a darling for a lot of folks out there. A guy who Plenty of people thought would be a huge breakout star. This year, he suffered the Jones Jones fracture in the off season, though there was some maybe a little bit too much optimism about Debo. Maybe getting on the field in week one. That is not the case. He was placed on injured reserve yesterday, which means he will not be able to return for at least three weeks. So Deebo Samuel, and the reason I bring him up to is because In Kyle Shanahan's offense. You want the wide receiver who's going to be running out of the ax? He feeds. He's traditionally fed that position a lot of receptions and Deebo Samuel looked like he could be a real game breaker if he got the opportunity to play. I still like Deebo Samuels upside going forward, But just to let you know he's not going to play today. He's out for the first three weeks, so you have to make some alternative plans. And since we're on that game, San Francisco Arizona Worth keeping in mind. The air quality due to the wildfires in the Bay Area and across California is something that needs to be monitored. It is a a an afternoon game, 3 25. There's a chance that the game could be moved. Although The last thing I saw last night was the Air quality index, which, if it's above 200, I believe the plan is the game will be postponed. But right now it is calling for around a 1 76 and again. A somebody who is not a weather aficionado Tyler AKI on the other side, the board laughing at me. I'm learning this as we go, But so the air quality is not going to be great. Something to keep in mind if you're looking at some of your other alternatives. It's going to be AH, weird game. If they play it. I don't know what to make of it. I don't know how much that will impact players if they actually do go off without a hitch. Just something to keep in mind If your may be on the fence at all, it might be worth staying away from. If you have so again week one, not a ton of injuries, So if there's something you're thinking Do I go with? You know, do I want to start Christian Kirk or fill in the blank? Maybe you stay away from Christian Kirk. Just because of that, just because we have no idea what we're dealing with out there in Santa Clara. San Francisco. All right. So again, 3123323776. This is the fantasy football show. I'm your host, Jeff Miller. You can follow me on Twitter at Jeff. Underscore Miller. That's me. L l E R one more injury than your calls. First.

"The late round pass catcher that you wanna take a flyer on is deebo. Samuel. Who that I would rather take a leap around Flyer on Deebo Samuel. And coming back in a few weeks and being productive especially over the second half of the year then Brandon Iu. Then Ritchie James or Kendrick born or Jordan Reed who looked good a supposedly at practice yesterday and I wants to find his thoughts on that statement. I think if you just prepare that, you would not have deebo Samuel for the first six weeks. I'm just assume that he's going to stay on the pup list and that means minimum of six weeks before he'd be back. That's how you have to operate, and if that's worth it to you to take him in late round for that. Then the upside is definitely there we know that we know what he can do on the field. I like Euch and I still I think you know I think he will be utilized but I agree with field if it's a ten team league I'm probably not using a spot on him but wouldn't you rather have ten weeks of Diego? Samuel than. Sixteen. Weeks of anyone else that isn't named George Kettle on that passing offense. My answer is yes. At last check in these things move quickly. deebo Samuel still being drafted relatively high. Receivers. That's what I was going to say here right now, his ADP is tenth around he's wide receiver to thirty five or me academy. Too, high for me. So what range are you when you say late round based on where he's going like what would feel comfortable for you have him I have rankings memorized but I believe I have him I can wide receiver forty ish range somebody to Roger Sierra to go thirsty kyle. By the way I was hit. There you go. So yes wide receiver forty where I'm comfortable taking him. Okay. Fair enough. That's the answer their. Receivers more than Deebo Samuel at the moment I hope that we don't talk to find you about injuries regarding the niners for a long time. We'll back to her in just a couple of minutes but I it is time now for another edition of double trouble travel. Trouble trouble will travel. Troubles this moment there on double secret probation. By the way. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe today.

"Opportunity mayor of crazy town Levin Black. please. Tell me how after four practices Brandon is better than Deebo Samuel? Well. The keyword there is, could I think there is a possibility that he is already better. Simply because he has. A higher ceiling I mean we knew that coming in from deebo Samuel he was somebody that had a high floor but a little bit lower of a ceiling for a guy drafted that highly, he doesn't have breakaway speed. He's not going to be a burner that can take the top off a defense. Everybody knew that about deebo Samuel coming in they knew he is going to be a guy that's great and screens great on slants great on outs all the shorter to a little bit of the intermediate routes. Brennan I is different. He's somebody that can do it all. He was incredibly elusive in college. He averaged ten point six yards after the catch his last year Arizona State in a pro style offense. You know herm. Edwards is the coach over there at Arizona State. And on top of that, you got somebody that has the speed to take the top off the defense I. Know His Forty Yard Dash time wasn't that impressive at four point five seconds but he was super supposedly not one hundred percent healthy when he ran that. And if you take the defensive players, the niners at what they're saying they're saying he is an absolute burner. He has so much more speed than that four or five says so he could in reality be a guy that could run a four three, five, forty in what would what what were. The Fans and media thinking of him as a potential receiver. If he ran a four three five that changes the whole story instead of this guy that has the body and has elusiveness who could be decent at the deep ball it'd be a guy that has all of that but it's definitely a deep ball threat. And I think he suffers a little bit too from the fact that that wide receiver class this year was so loaded there were so many receives it was it five or six they were taken in the first round this year and no one was even really talking about him when they were mentioning those guys so I think he kinda suffered from that a little bit but I just. Four. Practices. Levin. Four practices like come on I mean half the pass catching her on air right. Right. Yeah I didn't say he is definitely one hundred percent better. Nobody knows that nobody cal Shannon doesn't know that. But. I think there is. A good enough possibility that he is better. To say that it's possible. Because he like I said, has a higher ceiling and Shan. We know. He's not really somebody the praises offense skill players all that much. You know you could point to Dante Pettis, for example, is routinely tried to criticize him to the media. He has been raving about Brandon I uc. He said he's much further along than most rookies and I tweeted out a video. From the draft when Iraq was taken and it was Kyle Shanahan, raising his arms up and pump on the air because he was so excited. For Shannon to do that, he knows he was getting something special for his system. Especially 'cause. He knew he was on camera to like you know given that draft set up I feel like he wouldn't have done that unless he was super excited because he knew he was on camera so I that is a good point. Here's my question to. If Shanahan is so good at finding wide receivers. What happened on the Dante? Pettis pick why? If Shannon is identifying receivers and knows what he wants and all that. They took Dante Pederson the second round and guys been a ghost. The only reason is even seen the field this years 'cause they've had three receivers go down. Will I think? It's hard to say for sure being somebody you know watching the Games on TV not being on the sidelines in the practices every day. But I think there's been enough said enough evidence out there that you can read between the lines of what happened. Dante better. Last Training Camp Richard Germano saying he has true number one. Count. But he's not consistent enough yet call Shannon criticizing that he didn't get enough strength in the off season like they wanted that he wasn't being consistent enough. You know that was a big thing that everybody kept mentioning. He wasn't consistent. He wasn't consistent. It certainly seems like Dante Pettis did not come in prepared last year he came in. Not In football shape didn't add the strength that everybody felt he needed to be effective in the NFL and this year could different I mean you that's part of the reading between the lines they see her. There have been reports and there have been teammate saying he's in better shape this year he's better prepared. So I think what happened with that they pettus wasn't that Shanahan didn't get a guy that's capable of being great. He just got a guy that took his career for granted. I I don't understand how the happens. Right? You're. You're a football player you you play your whole life you college football you bust your. To get in shape and play as good as you comply and you fight and then you get drafted right and you get to the NFL and then you're fighting to become a starter. You do all that stuff you work so hard you go through all that pain people realize how much it hurts to train and play football, and then you have a good season and you go into the off season and you do nothing. You like I don't understand how you suddenly put the brakes on when you're really just at the beginning of a potential rise to stardom. You see in all walks of life people worked so hard for something and the moment that they feel like they got it there's almost a sense of relief like, Hey, I finally arrived and they relax now some people realize they can't do that especially in a field, the highly competitive like the NFL where your career can be over. Right. Than than it now if you get a bad rep. If the niners had released Dante Pettis last year and just. Talked about it openly in the media that he he wasn't motivated he wasn't in shape whatever and just basically. Threw him under the bus what he got another shot. Yeah. Somebody probably would have brought him in for work, but they wouldn't have committed a contract to him and his career could have been over because especially for a position wide receiver, it's really hard to break into a team. The team has to truly value you because it's hard to show what you can do in practice and just a workout because there's so many athletes out there that can look good in a workout. So. You'd think he put the brakes on he complacent. Yes. I think he thought he arrived because everybody was praising all he's going to be our number one next year. And we saw that. As well, the previous year with witherspoon on the defense side everybody said, hey, he was great. He's going to be the starter over there. He's GonNa Really Lock it down the niners going to be great in the secondary and he came in and he wasn't prepared and he's openly admitted that that he took some things for granted Sherman talked about that and said that about him that he you know kind of got complacent a little bitty he was not as prepared as he should have been. It happened some substances, how some people are and they can recover from it. I mean witherspoon was having a phenomenal season last year prior to the area and you gotta wonder how much that really derail him whether he was ever fully back from that. Maybe, pettus finally rebounds this year. But isn't that? What Sherman is supposed to prevent isn't Sherman like this great leader in the locker room taken all these guys under his wing and doing this that and the other isn't he the presence that's supposed to prevent a young player like a Keller Witherspoon from backsliding in the off season?.

"That really causes issues, and it's a big timetable so twelve to sixteen weeks. He's out which almost certainly puts them on the populace. You'd think and might be a situation if the NFL. Season plays as scheduled and who knows we'll get to that in a little bit that it would keep him out probably until sometime in October not ideal on, and especially with the guy with his skillset as fast as he is, it's a concern obviously that he has now a serious foot injury. He, was a guy. I thought they were almost county on a little too much. You know when you look at their receiver group in. There's a lot of talk about okay well. You got a Deebo Samuel. Has Your number one and then you know you slide in cruiser first round? Pick in the a lot of you know bunch of similar guys. You Got Jalen Hertie got Trent Taylor is coming back. Dante Pettis. Kendrick born pretty good slack slacker, but it's like. Hey. We got deal Samuel as our number one. One and I heard that and I thought well. Here's a rookie who I love watching play reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin but in came on at the end of the year, but maybe not a totally complete receiver yet and really kind of flashed at the end of the year, and that's the kind of guy. A lot of people just project suddenly. You'RE GONNA. Put up fourteen hundred yards I. don't know if he was going to be at that point and career, and then you take them away. And there. Isn't isn't too good. I mean June hand always finds a way to scheme it up, and they've got their first round pick I I I did like what I saw Kendrick born at the end of the year, but otherwise it's like it's a receiver by committee in it. It's not a great group. Yeah I mean. They have the right coach like you're saying to figure this out. mark on our last podcast was even talking to Michael. Shannon could end up being one of the best coaches ever. At the very least he's one of the top minds in the league right now, so you would think he's going to be able to find something, or they're going to go out and get somebody. It makes me wonder I know. I think they're caps. Situation is pretty tight, but Maybe Emmanuel Sanders was a guy. They should have thought about trying to keep in the building. Who instead went to the saints, not a very big deal as I recall maybe two years, nuts anything too crazy. that would have given them some more depth and wouldn't leave them as vulnerable as they appear to be here. They still have of course George biddle as well so there's not like the the the they're completely. Up poops creek right now, but it hurts for sure day. Let Jimmy Garoppolo throw the ball deep blessed than any quarterback in the league, lowest percentage of deep throws. He always make fun of Teddy Bridgewater for zero yards per then. Arts you know he's even lower. Jimmy, Garoppolo the only player in the League is lower. And deebo Samuel is is a guy that's keeping that low because he's a guy. Give them to him short and you hope he runs long, but it does make you think like Jimmy Garoppolo got to be a part of this solution to where he makes the receivers around him better. And, in Kyle Shanahan's manage the way to cook up like a lot of production without big time receivers last year, so I figure he'll do it again, but this is a huge loss. Deebo Samuel from week ten onward last season. was twelve in the league in Yardage, so he did really come on but he will not of pressure on you and you, you mentioned. You know not signing samuels and I think you're right. They had tough decisions to make you know they had to bring. Bring back our garden. They traded. Yeah. They traded buckner in part because of the Castro and I think because of the trades that they may decide. Hey, we're gonNA use our draft. Capital on receiver instead of spending money on receiver articles like the one, Guy, he very much had draft twitter split, and I was not a fan I'm not letting. Go Draft Nick, but I did look at like the top eight or nine guys and he was the one guy I was like man. I don't see it cowhands a lot smarter than me to me. He seemed like a poor man's deebo Samuel and so so they'll have him. Try to sit that rule. God I would love for you to go up to Shanahan at the scouting combine and say I. Do know what you see in this guy I would. I would like to know I. Just tell me what it is. Get it not smart all right and we're all this. We're talking about the twenty twenty season. But who knows if there's going to be a twenty twenty season there continues to be a lot of concern, and rightfully so about how the ongoing. Coronavirus, pandemic could affect the NFL season, or even wipe it out entirely, and Dr Tony Chey Anthony Fauci. The Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of those dues in the White House that you can trust people like vouch. G believe in what he has to say well. He told CNN this week. The football players would need to be isolated from others and tested regularly to make this work. Here's what he had to say. Unless players are essentially in a bubble insulated from the community, and they are tested nearly every day. It would be very. Very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall if there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility in which would be complicated by the predictable flu season football may not happen this year pro basketball if you're paying attention. The NBA is going down to Orlando or Orlando Florida, or at least that's the plan and putting themselves in a bubble, but that's a two-month playoff structure with only some of the teams involved teams will dwindle obviously throughout the postseason. NFL totally different deal I don't even I. Vouch you man I lucked out. You but I don't even know you. Throw something like that out there. It's not feasible we're talking about. Thousands of people for a three to four months season I. don't even know how this is a solution. Well I think he was you know if you? If you listen and read all of it I think he was trying to say. If if a second wave comes, it's like. The the virus doesn't care about the NFL. So if you want me to just be honest, you know if you're if you're like. The virus isn't going to be on the NFL's schedule, and so he's thinking. In terms of the bubble, I thought he maybe meant like within sort of each team like they're in their own cities and they're trying to stay as contained. Just, team practicing together and everything, but then you, of course have the issue of traveling in playing the other teams and we're seeing right now. Not that we're experts in not that we have any idea where this is going. But that that's sorta the point that the places that were the worst in March like New York City. Shape right now in terms of grown virus, the cases there. Are are down so much and some of the places that were in good shape early on like Florida and Arizona and where you are. Texas are getting worse than an and it's not even the second way that people have been talking about in in all these places. It's the first wave California which has done a decent job where we're at has just been a slow up to climb this whole time I mean my kids. Walkers school preschools reopening next week. In it's just interesting to think about 'cause bright now the cases are actually are a little higher than they've ever been. You know and that's something mindset. People have figured out. How are we gonna live around this because you can't I people aren't. You can't say that you're just GonNa stay locked in your house, but it I mean the NFL season. Just to me requires so many things happening that some skepticism is understood can. India Ben Ben Violin for the Boston Globe. He wrote a a story in reaction to this and he. He brought up some reporting he did last month where he spoke seven infectious disease experts to former NFL doctors and one former NFL team trainer about what will take for the NFL to play this fall. None of them thought bubble scenario was feasible. Right they they're consensus. was that a combination of frequent testing and quarantining plus strict social.

"Well guess what CJ Moseley stayed healthy. He played out his rookie. Deal got to free agency and got seventeen million. That's how this works, so go do it. Stay healthy. Keep on out and you'll get paid I. don't like this and it's going back. Back to the same thing Jalen Ramsey Grech last year I see where this is going and everyone especially in the media and I don't want to sound like some pro ownership guy, but it's always it's the player that's right. The ownerships wrong always, but this idea that a player can be a star and then hold the team hostage when he's under contract I. Just don't think it's a good look. I I love the guy. I love him, but I don't think it's a good look. I I. Don't think he's holding them hostage. He's making it uncomfortable. Let's get their anybody's in that direction. He's making them uncomfortable publicly. But that's his leverage. You know these are missing anything and if he misses some training camp. Whatever like that I'm not really you know. I wouldn't be worried about him. Long term I think if I was a jets fan, concern would be. This has been bubbling for awhile and so the the whole trade rumors thing I I don't think started with Joe Douglas. It felt like it started with Jamal Adams like felt like. His agent has been pushing. This idea of either getting out of New York for he needs the. Priming the pump that he needs to get this big time deal sooner than later, and that goes back even to last year because it seemed like Adams was already. Having it was mixed feelings, or whatever that is agent is playing two sides. Of the fence here and and that's his job to do. I I. Wonder what the the back and forth like the background INFO is the part where I would disagree with you is like. The third year great players like him going into his fourth year. Get contracts. All the time happens. All the time happens every year so that that's. Par for course. These safeties I mean it's it's a unique thing. I'd have to go back to the conversation. Yeah, but I, may it? Whether, he resetting the safety market or not. Yeah, that makes I'm not saying it's not complicated. It is complicated because the fifth year. Option ultimately I think is bad for players that are as good as Jamal Adams because that's like another bit of leverage against him. That maybe isn't like totally his worth, but yeah I would say all pro players get big time extensions going into their fourth year, and I kinda figured he's GonNa get his extension going into. into his fourth year, and if I had the guests, I still would guess he would get his extension from the jets going into his fourth year I wanNA. Know what's happening no for him to blow up like this and if I, if I had to totally irresponsibly irresponsibly speculate I guess it's that just nothing to happen. And whatever else would you be getting this frustrated like? They don't even want to put a number out there. That's GonNa make him mad. They know the kind of money that he wants. And he's getting radio silence at this point, and then then then you can see from his side. It's like okay well well. Do they see me as like the one of the best defensive players in the League do they value me that way? 'cause Joe Douglaston draft me. In Adam Gates. This to with Adam Gates didn't draft me and that that makes it complicated, but it's not like. The jets are getting that that I. I think they asked for to first and second SIMEONI. A first than to. Just, being reported, they didn't get that last year. They're not going to get it this year. They're not gonna get it before the season. That's for sure. Right I just would hate to see this. Turn into Janaka. Situation because I guess that he is such a fun guy to root for and watch play and I. I I love keyshawn Johnson I used to wear a keyshawn Johnson Jersey to highschool. Number nineteen for the jets in that stunk, but you know what. When they did trade keyshawn that ended up being a big deal for them that brought back first round picks that built the team for the next decade, so I don't think Joe Douglas is going to look at this and say I need to cave and trade this guy. I would imagine like you were saying. He didn't draft him either, so it's like. I'm sure he's open to doing business. So, we'll see how this all turns out but The pandemic. Is the pandemic thing is like is a real thing. That business is getting clogged up right now i. mean you see that in in all sorts of businesses like that? That is a real thing that I. Think is GONNA. Keep having an impact. As we get closer to training camp. We're still so far away that it's a little surprising to hear this like right now. Like why right now? Where does he make his home in the off season? Because there's a lot of parts of this country that do not believe there's a pandemic going on anymore. I don't know he's probably. Order. See a Florida All right in other news bad news for the San Francisco Forty niners who lose one of their most promising young players to a broken left foot. It's Deebo Samuel, who injured himself during a t teammates on Tuesday? is going to be sidelined three to four months according to rap sheet it is a Jones fracture. It's that foot.
49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffers broken foot
"Forty niners wide receiver deebo Samuel has broken his foot in a workout. It will require surgery. He'll be gone for twelve to sixteen weeks.
Breaking down Trent Williams' trade to the 49ers
"Trent Williams dealt from the Redskins to the forty Niners for five today in a three next year and we're breaking it down as you just heard the guys drafted by Kyle Shanahan and Trent Williams is a talented guy and if you look at the forty niner list of to do list today are coming into this traffic should say replacement for Buckner check can log the impact wide receiver who can start opposite Deebo Samuel check brand in the UK left tackle replacement for Joe Staley check Trent Williams would yes thanks I I I mean it it's it's it's it's pretty awesome I mean I I'd be it can't be that simple I mean can you just can you just go in the draft in in it that you would think is what you're supposed to do you you you you talk about the team that you know the one that wins the NFC west you go to the Super Bowl you miss the Superbowl basically by one play and and and you want to get better and I think after the Superbowl in after free agency you you start thinking whether the team is not as good as they used to be I think if you look at the team now I mean you would have to think that you know they are as good or better then they were going to the Superbowl yeah I I mean you only hold off on saying that is because we haven't seen this combination of guys play together yet put Trent Williams is a like I just got a text from our buddy Kevin Francis a good pick great pick
Hail to the Chiefs
"All right so this was an incredibly even matchup but at the end of the day a clear. Oh you're winner emerged Jaylo well and Shakira like let's let's give her due to Yemen Jaylo whatever. She's whatever over she's taking to look and move like that at fifty you know we can all take a lesson from her and And who knew she could move on a pole. It is kind of funny that you know. So how many years. After the wardrobe malfunction we now just have performers on stripper Poles. All right so let's talk about this remarkable game I What was the vibe in the stadium before kickoff? Yeah I mean listen. It's the Super Bowl right. People are excited. I will say that there were a lot more chiefs fans then niners fans and that was kind of to be expected. That's how it's been in Miami all week I think ESPN projected before the game that it was going to be sixty seven percent Kansas the city fans which would make it the most lopsided attendance in history and it really did man. It felt like achieves home game. You had the chance and you know it was a sea of red. Obviously because both nighters and she's fans where red but but chiefs fans definitely were taking over and you could tell when they did the introductory lineups? You could tell. Whenever they they showed chiefs players are coming through the tunnel the stadium which get loud And conversely a lot of booing being whenever the camera would focus on the niners. And you know we've talked a lot in the buildup to this game this week about Kobe. Bryant he just is looming over the world of sports so largely right now now and there was a beautiful tribute to him before the game began. Yeah so there was a moment of silence before America. The beautiful and national and the national anthem were song on Four Koby daughter Jonah and the other seven victims of the helicopter crash. Sure Sunday's they will never be for each of the teams Rosters were lined up on their own twenty four yard line. No Mosh to Kobe's number twenty four as the moment of silence happened and a few players were also wearing purple and gold cleats during warmups. All right so this was expected to be a close game and the first half was incredibly. Even what jumped out at you from that first half. Yeah I mean the first half was super even obviously. We went into to the second half tied at ten The first quarter kind of gave you a setup of how this of how you thought this game was going to go you know. Both teams had strong drives early San Francisco got the running game going out of the gate with deebo Samuel But despite controlling the ball for nearly six minutes in their opening drive that drive only ends in a field goal the chiefs then come back to answer with a really strong drive heavily favoring Running back Damien Williams play action was really working for them in four achieves team. Who's WHO's running game isn't nearly as strong as San Francisco's? This was pretty key for them on that particular drive third and eleven and Patrick mahomes shows off the legs he takes off off and he appears to get the first down but then he fumbles after a hard hit pushes him back. So it's now fourth and one and Andy Reid. has this decision to make. Does he go for word on further on fourth and one it's early in the game. San Francisco's defense was the best in the league. This season on stopping fourth and one And kind of going into this game you know you don't really ever know what he's GonNa do on fourth down but he ends of going for it. And it's absolutely right call Damian Williams gets the first on a short run and Patrick mahomes eventually takes it into the end zone. Himself for the touchdown and the chiefs go up seven to three and early in the second. Quarter Jimmy Garoppolo threw an interception reception and the chiefs and up on a drive with another fourth and one and they go for it again. Yeah and it ends up being the right call again now. Let's remember that Andy. He read only went for it on fourth down ten times in the regular season and here he's gone for it twice in the first twenty minutes of the game so clearly. It's the Super Bowl. He's putting everything on the table and it ends up being the right. Call it results in points. The chiefs the cheesecake field goal. And they go up ten to three okay so at this point Jimmy. Garoppolo has just throw an interception. Forty niners are struggling a bit and it looks like they need a big drive to get back into the game and they get it they did. The the very next drive is really a statement driver San Francisco. The run game really got going. The five straight strong runs including a touchdown throw. Oh a play action pass to a very unlikely hero. Kyle used check the fullback. We got a fullback touchdown in the Super Bowl who also became the first player from Harvard? Ever to score touchdown in the Super

"So this is why he's number three, but he does carry risks because if Pettus breaks out, and now all of a sudden, they've got more with deebo Samuel, and Jalen Hurd, and these guys that are that are not allowing kindled to be up in the hundred and thirty targets then then there's risk their eighty eight receptions last year for thirteen hundred seventy seven yards. Four year college career, forty eight receptions. Yeah. Well, he went Swannee receptions in his junior year twenty two and his senior year. So I'm looking at fantasy full just makes me laugh, all caq calculator. But right now Zakar is the to twelve and George Kittle is the three o five are you willing to pay the price for either of those guys if that ADP were to hold a you just said Kelsey is no irks is the to twelve George Kittle is the three o five. I think I would pay up for. I would I you know, the truth is what you're sacrificing their. I if wears Kelsey two oh five. The target that would that would be the that would walk us. We we all agree on Travis Kelsey. That's why. If you said one twelfth though, you know, there there've been years in the past gronk has been a first round. I was like, hey, you guys want a Snickers bar you want. This broccoli. That's why I didn't put the Snickers bar. I it was a time though, this offseason and is before the tyreek south happened. But it just looked like on paper like Kelsey was going so high and kiddos going so low that kid who was the obvious pit to me. I don't feel that way anymore. Right. You got around difference. So. Let's go to number four on our early tight endless OJ Howard out of Tampa Bay. I haven't six Jason. You got him up before Mike at five. OJ Howard needs to stay on the field. If OJ Howard stays on the field. He's too talented to not produce. I think that's what we can all agree on he's earned before. Overall tight end last year finished at thirteen. But he was the fourth most consistent last year when he was actually on the field. So has to take a step forward. We know Cameron brakes in the rear view mirror. Bruce Arians, hasn't traditionally us tight ends. But again, I still go with the two talented rule. All right. Yeah. I mean, that's that's my thing is whatever Bruce Arians wants to do. And he's going to put a better offense in place. Jameis Winston uses tight ends. Jameis Winston will look for his titans. Running down the field. There's no way they're not gonna use OJ Howard and capitalize on the gifts that he has if that's the case and he plays sixteen. I mean, you just said it he he was one of the most consistent tight ends when he was playing fee stays healthy. I don't see how I mean. Right now, I've got him. Mm down for only eighty six targets total. And we've been talking about comparing that to these guys who were up at one hundred thirty plus targets and this is coming out as my tight end four because I think his red zone opportunity. His ability like kill to just break away on an eighty yard run. Not every tight end can do that OJ Howard has done multiple times and will continue to do it. So when you when you have those big massive games. You also have a tight end coming into what is his third year in the league. That's usually how long it takes a tight into really come into their own at least. So his his pace last year in games. Played seventy seven targets fifty four receptions nine hundred four yards eight touchdowns. That's great for as I in in this landscape. Yeah. I mean, I think and then you have real opportunity there. They didn't spend up in the draft to go get another wide receiver option. You lost Humphries? Yeah. You lost de Jack's. He's going to be used, and you know, coming out of college. If you if you remember if. You've been with us for the last three plus years when he was a rookie. This was a generational talent. OJ Howard was like okay since gronk. He was you know, we we've talked a lot about teacher Hawkins sin and Noah fan this year to really good prospects..

"He like he doesn't even have a set position right now. Right. Yeah. Because he was a running back and then a wide receiver. And now he's going to be some kind of offense of weapon. Right. And I think ultimately when you what you do with your first three rounds of picks. Is you say what? Do you do really, well, let's go ahead and take that and make that work at the NFL level and the Niners seemed to be especially in and around the third and fourth round and Namur with taking a player and then thinking that they can mold him. They have the quite frankly, arrogance to think that they can completely transform player into doing something that is new at a level that is much higher than they had to do it in college. And so far that has not been successful. And then when ends up happening is that player, unfortunately, get stuck in a loop. They get brought in to transfer to a different position or role. They don't do that. Well, so they moved back to a different role. And then they've only been doing that for your in the NFL, they don't do that. Well, and they keep ping pong and you end up with Jimmy ward or you end up with various more or you end up with these players or you end up with Solomon Solomon Thomas these players that you just don't have a fixed position for you. Don't let them learn their craft, and then you cut them or trade them because they're a bus when in reality. You didn't have a plan for them. And even if you did have a plan. It wasn't a good one because you should have just let them do what they do well and play to their strengths. And instead you thought to yourself with the CBA that limits all this practice time. I'm gonna go ahead and fix them. Look man, I wouldn't have been able to go to sleep at night. If we didn't get CJ Beathard on this roster. All right. I wasn't going to be able to sleep until day three of the draft. Yeah. It's it's it's it's tough. It's this would be a completely different conversation. If this is a player we're talking about taking with one of their two six round picks. Right where he very likely could have been available like this is a a top one hundred pick that you are expecting to take a player here that can come in and be an impact player for your team and be somebody that you can actually rely on right now Araj on a roster that is talented vision. And in a draft where there is a glut of talent in the second and third round. I mean, you think of the players that were still available when the Niners drafted this wide receiver. You look at the Cornerbacks. That were available a position of need for the forty Niners. And okay, we know the Niners don't value cornerback position as much as they do their front seven. They put a ton of resources in their front seven. But that doesn't mean that cornerback has a position doesn't exist. And so instead of going for a cornerback or instead of. Going for safety that can challenge Jimmy ward. They instead double down on a wide receiver. I get the position the players still confuses me. Yeah. I think that's that's what you really come back to you. Right. Is again, we bang the drum hard for coverage constantly and pass catchers again effect the passing game. This is better than them drafting a damn off ball linebacker in the third round for sure. And so I think that's why though you you are comfortable with deebo Samuel right while you're okay with that. You can say like, okay. Yeah. Let's let's deebo like I was really happy. That begins. Guests been brought like I'm not in a good place right now. Let's get back to talking about good stuff. Right. Well, I think you know, you look at deebo Samuel. And even though I think we would have argued all things being equal. If you have a cornerback that you like as much as you have deebo Sam as much as you like deebo Samuel there. Like, you take the cornerback. Because that's a thing that you need more direly right now on your roster. But you know, at the end of the day..

"As we talk about with with wide receivers and Cornerbacks. All the time. It's it's really kind of what flavor do you prefer? You know, these guys come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes in plain styles in it's about what you're doing on your team schematically, and what fits best with what with what you're trying to get accomplished. Right. So I think deebo the fit makes a lot of sense for me just kind of innovation cume AJ Brown. I think brought a little bit more to the table. I think there's a little bit more vertical to his game. You know, he he could have brought something that I don't think they have which is not only the ability to do some of the similar things that deebo does underneath. But also be able to be a vertical threat from the slot. Be another guy that can kinda compliment George kindle in that way. And you know, again, just bring something to the table that their current receiving core doesn't really have. But you're I think you're perfectly fine with with either one of those options and incandescently see whether. Forty Niners preferred to go with deebo over a player like AJ Brown, or you know, even keel Harry had he'd been on the board. All right. So that wraps up our scattering report for deebo Samuel overall and not just because of his name because I'm still trying to figure out some kind of Friday joke that will figure out. I mean as soon as as soon as he trucks, someone we're going to get the gun knocked the fuck out me. I mean, you know, it's coming. We're getting ready yet graphic artists out there gift makers. Do it get ready to just have it prepped in primed? So that when he truck someone and he will because he plays angry. He's like a bigger Steve Smith. Yeah. He's he's very physical player. Sure. He and he's he's thick with two seize. So you know, he's he's gonna roll somebody. And where we need the memes ready. We need them ready. Alex train if you're listening nine hundred nation graphic artists..

"I'm not sure if he gets to inbounds, but he gets at least one because it's college college touchdown. That's right. It doesn't matter still touchdown. And it's pretty good. He's got a really good hands. And I think it's it's exactly what Shanahan wants to. You. Can you? Operate. Can you create space for the quarterback to get you the ball? And then when the ball is there, are you going to catch it and de Bodas, both those things very very well. And then kind of the final thing that I think that that we'd be remiss not to bring up is his ability after the catch. I think very much a big part of his game. That was a big part of how South Carolina utilize. It was a big reason why so many of his receptions came near behind the line of scrimmage a lot of jet. Sweep lot lot of screen stuff that was mixed in there. And that was because they were looking for any way to get the ball in this guy's hands. So that he could do stuff with it after the Kachin, and he was again fantastic. There. You mentioned the overall numbers. I mean on the slants alone. Yeah. Average over eighteen yards after the catch on those fourteen slant, receptions, it was just something that came up consistently. Where not only is he a guy that's going to be able to make the catch and gets. What's there? You know? He's going to turn up field. He's going to get what's available to him. But he is someone that can create. His is going to force miss tackles had what Twenty-one force missed tackles on sixty two catches last season. I think he was among the top five guys in this class as far as force missed tackles go, which is pretty when you think about because there are some players that don't approach twenty one tackles full stop on quite a bit more catches. And he's able I mean there was there was a one play where he gained three yards and made three dudes miss like he was averaging won miss tackle a yard. But yeah, I mean, it was it was it's funny because he has a lot of plays. Like that. When you're like, okay. Yeah. You gotta keep this in perspective. It's it's only a three yard gain here. Sure. But. It could have been a three yard loss, and his you know, he's able to again create when when something isn't necessarily there in turn what could be either a short gain or potentially even a bad play for your offense in turn that into a positive. And I think that's something. That's that's very important. And that I don't know that we have on the roster players who are really all that. I mean, obviously kiddle at the tight end position is. Yeah, that's his big thing. But as far as wide receivers go there's no one that. That's I think it quite that level pedestals good in that regard. But nobody has the same after the catch ability is what deebo show and there's another flag. I think that that maybe Shanahan is starting to look at it not starting to look at but maybe consider evaluating wide receivers. And that's their ability to return kicks because he has returned a couple of punts for touchdowns. And obviously, we know that Dante Pettis was someone who returned a lot of kicks in the Pac twelve touchdowns, and he obviously got up on the radar. So that might be one of the qualifiers that we may need to add to the Shanahan wide receiver Ma. When we're looking at wide receivers next year is do they do they have punt returns for touchdowns? But I mean, it makes sense to degree rate. I think it highlights running after the catch it kinda shows like some vision in ability to navigate in the open field and again create with the ball on your. So let's get to the limitations because deebo Samuel is a second round draft pick. And he was not a first rounder. It was not a consensus number one overall. And that's because the player has limitations. And I think the first thing that jumps out is that his deep passing production is not all that stellar. He had just fifteen deep targets and four deep receptions, his deep catch rate ranked in one hundred fiftieth in this draft class..
"deebo samuel" Discussed on Niners Nation
"You see the quickness, you know, in his route running ability, and they'd be the ability to separate there. But you also see that four four eight speed when he does have the ball on his hands. And he's looking to hit that extra gear and separate and create some big plays with the ball on his hand. So I think everything that you see there looks really good. And so when you look at his his short shuttle time of four point one four it was the fifth fastest in at the combine that generally bodes well because Shanahan loves play. That can separate and deebo Samuel can do that his short shuttle time in short area quickness proves that. But when you look at the comparison to someone like PR zone, you look at their physical comp and you look at their combine or testing numbers. They're both five eleven they're both around to ten. They both have about thirty one inch arms Garson Renna four four to forty deebo Renna four for eight. If you look at their ten yards splits Garson ran a one five flat deebo Renna one five six Carson had a thirty six inch vertical depot had a thirty nine. So he's a little bit more explosive. Garson ran a four dot one nine short shuttle deebo four one four so he's a little quicker in the short area. I mean, you you just go down the line at their physical calms and their carbon copies of each other with Garcia, and I think being a little faster straight line. Deebo may be a little better in short area. Yeah. I think that's probably the key especially younger, some you know, as we've talked about before could could get down the field, more and could be more of a big play threat on kind of vertical routes. I don't think that depot's quite that guy. But we'll save that for the later section for where he wants. And he's built like a running back. You look at in the mock draftable comp and it's time Gumri another famous running back to wide receiver to running back to receiver prospect. And he I mean, he is built as milestone and Finally I would say like a brick shit house. So he he's he's a big, dude. He's built like running back and he runs like to right? I think the kind of moving onto the next area. He also produced at a very high level, which is is really good. So, you know, I think when you look overall in this class, you know, he his production was up there in it's always tough with wide receiver production because you know, some of that can be dictated by the scheme that they're in. How many other talented players? They have around them. You see that at places like Ohio State? We talked about worry. They just have so many weapons offensively that no one players production is necessarily so outsized that it stands out. But then you get players like deebo Samuel where he is very clearly. Kind of the best weapon that they have it wide receiver gets a lot of targets thrown his way and was able to go and do a lot with those targets. And so, yeah, I think when you look at his grades over the course of his career, you know, one of the higher three year grades in this draft class, you know, was right in in the same range as guys like AJ Brown, Akil, Harry. I think the one area that really stands out that he was very very good at it was on slant routes. He was the highest graded receiver on slant. Routes over his three years in in college. They're only fourteen receptions on them. So it wasn't necessarily something that was a high volume route for him but three hundred fifty six yards on those routes on those receptions, two hundred and fifty three of those came after the catch and one hundred thirty six after contact. So it was just very very efficient and productive. When when he was able to get the ball in his hands quickly in make stuff happen after the catch and the cherry on top of that slammed Sunday is that twelve. Twelve of those fourteen catches went for first downs or touchdowns. So he basically produced I mean, he was a slight machine, and he performed very very well on that route overall he had eleven touchdowns for South Carolina last year and average nine point six yards after the catch. He averaged nine point six yards after the catch. And that's not just because he was catching a bunch of bubble screens and smokescreens he got he did get a lot of screens his way. Definitely. But you look at a play.

"Joel Klatt is an absolute revelation on that NFL net broadcast can Reggie Wayne. Just announce all the pigs because he was frigging amazing. And with me for the second time in as many days still filling out his office game of thrones deadpool, David Newman. Hello. How are you? David. We did not cancel the show. No, surprisingly, we did not finish a growl or of beer for those initiated. That's two whole leaders one leader a human in the course of twenty minutes. I was gonna say, no, we definitely finished. We definitely finish it. And now, we're on our our Zillah reveres. But we're here we did not draft the tackle. But you've always got that. At least there wasn't an offensive lineman. But, but you know, maybe we drafted a wide receiver that may as well play tackle. Because he can apparently play every position we'll get there in a minute. First. Let's get to the thirty six pick in the NFL draft because with that pick the forty Niners selected deebo Samuel wide receiver out of South Carolina. And was there any pig perhaps more expected than deebo Samuel for the forty Niners? Maybe only Nick Bosa to the forty Niners in in round one. Absolutely, right. I think in on preach out preview we had three players in the separator category. Isabela was probably a little too small Riley. Ridley didn't have the Atlantic profile, but deebo Samuel men. He'd ticked all the boxes and Shanahan loves players. That can separate catch the ball and run after the catch and deebo Samuel can do all those things. So for the end initiated we're going to do a scouting report on the forty Niners draft picks. We're going to start with deebo Samuel. We're going to get to the athletic profile the production of these players. We're gonna talk about their limitations where they win and they're. Impact? And so let's start with deebo athletic profile. David hit me, so he's actually compares. This is something we talked a little bit about in the pre-draft episodes, but compares quite similarly to peer Garson in in a lot of ways. So I mean, I think overall a really good athlete. Seventy six percent, thou spark score. So again, not by the super high end crazy athlete, but definitely very much in the upper half of NFL athletes at wide receiver. And I think that's something that does show up on tape..

"Welcome back. All right NFL draft coming up, you know, this. If you're on hold you wanna stay there. If not I've got telephone number which is toll free. You know this. The phone is good in the US and Canada, one eight hundred six three six eight six eight six, but before we join anything else we are joined right now in studio by an all American a first team all SEC player as an all purpose player and returner. He was a second team all SEC's receiver sixteen receiving touchdowns. Seven rushing touchdowns. Four kickoff return touchdowns one fumble recovery. Touchdown one passing touchdown starting at the sense. He can do it all the draft is coming up in Nashville. It's twenty or table twenty fifth through twenty seventh. Deebo Samuel is my guest what's up, man? Good to see you feeling good. How you doing? Good good. Everything's good here. It's gonna see in studio. So me ask you about two weeks away from the start of the draft. You have set your entire life up for this. You've been working entire life for it. What's the process been like getting ready for the draft? How's it going for you? I mean is is is been pretty busy. I mean, it's like non stuff came up with flight last night came from New England Patriots. But January I really got rolling. When I went out went and got off the train and in Phoenix. Method that we trying to put a combined and then pro day, and now he's just visited all over the place. All right. So in terms of the visits you met with New England. I'm not gonna ask you about the details of that. Visit. But overall, what's it like when you visit a team, for instance, fans, always here about these visits? What exactly are they like do you work out for him? Do you just talk to them? What happens is kind of like a meet and greet getting not coaches in the gym and things like that for is like runnin plays as of now, we don't get into that. It was just as coaching tips woodwork. Oh, when you're talking with teams, what do you want them to know about you as a player and as a teammate what kind of a player they getting if they draft deebo Samuel? I feel like oh, you get a player that can do anything who put them anywhere feeling makes them heaven. Now. Right. So you went to the senior bowl. Now, you dominate the senior bowl. What was that experience? Like, what was your biggest takeaway in your time from mobile MIM MIM as it was going back and forth was what I was going to go in that just because the injuries that head. USC? So it was crazy like two days before I gave them a call at. I was library. You got to trust me on this. Go out here light it up. And then we go raise drafts glue bit. And then I just feel like we went down there and did a good for you. I respect because you know, when you're young guy coming up, and you've got an agent, I'm not saying this about your Asian, but generally about agents, and they've done this before they've ripped a lot of guys they know the process and for a young guy like you to step up and say, hey, listen, I think I can help myself right here, where did that mindset? Calm from. What would you think that this is the way I was raised though, we was raised like, I mean goes first month. Dating only lead you in the wrong direction. Right. Talk about being raised. You came up. You knew early on like you knew I wanna play football, and I wanna play football on TV, and you figure that out pretty early age. What was it about the game? You love so much football is teach how to overcome adversity teach you how to be a man and also teaches leadership skills. Your father told that story about your dad? Your dad was really quick. We're really good about telling you, listen. This is not that not a lot of guys. Have you wanna make sure you understand this in your parents talked about how there are a number of different ways, you could have gone a number of different route, you could've taken, but you stayed on the grind you worked on staying in school focusing on school focusing on football where that focus come from like came from older brother just him being mentor of being the leader of my life for athletics. And teach me the ends and outs of streets like things we're not doing. What do I mean? He made a couple of Ed is growing up, but he wasn't gonna follow them footsteps. So you'd rather what's like, what kind of an athlete was. He. This is not just because he Moda brother. But I feel like he was a busy athlete. I assume to us growing up to do everything he was doing or so like, it's it's really interesting because it's hard, man. It's hard. It's hard to stay straight and make good decisions. So where do you think why do you think that he had maybe some challenges with those decisions where you made the right calls. Really, oh, he was kind of hang around our own guys. Just just like I said has been leader of my life and teaching me like does not out to go. And just I mean, just keep it in his he was in courage to hold times as they would you go work on your favorite. How's he doing now? Good good. Good, South Carolina. And you're living the dream, right? You go to South Carolina gonna play football play on TV you red shirt. And then in your first game you suffer a hamstring strain. The keeps you out for seven games. How challenging time was that. And what was it like to have to wait that much longer before you could break through when it first happened? I thought I had a cramp because I never like to have seen until I went to the sideline trying to Darryl was like key dog. I was like I really can't dog like he pulled a hamstring. I was like what is he's UFO couple of weeks. I was in rehab process. Like, I was trying to get back early news tweaks as the name, but it was kind of strange. I is having a game going away from you for a little bit with after that we got a role in just a second. Like, we have take into games deebo Samuel joining me in studio, and you did and you come back and yet this great one handed catch in the end zone against Clemson are it's one thing to do it. But to do it against Clemson. And was your first career TD you dad talks about how proud. He was at that moment were that moment mean to you personally. Just growed up just just Watson people get an end zone. You know, what I did growing up from pop Warner to high school and just get to do it on big stays was kind of blessing challenging though, right? I'm new come all the way back and things are great. And then your second season you pull your hamstring again at that point season down say man, you know, what why does this keep happening? Why me it any pointed? You think men maybe it's not meant to be. Maybe it's not in the cards not at that moment because I just feel like it would have before. So I know what it takes to get over in. And also likes star doing things to make me more flexible like yoga and try and do extra training light. So I really got over that quick guilty sent me out for like three games. All right. So the only thing not only that, but you've always played a really physical brand of football roof physical brand football. And in fact, I'll give you an example, you got a guy name Steven white. He's a former NFL defense of linemen. He start off a piece about you. And he wrote quote before I get into what deebo Samuel is. Let me assure you of what he is not scare. Shared in quote time and time again when analysts talk about your toughness, they talked about how tough you are where did that come from the toughness physical toughness at that was to me at a young age. Like, I say my dad was kind of like my pop Warner coach in like, he always put him on my like, no, we don't let one person tech and everytime. We get the votes in the end zone. So that's kind of my mind say growing up. So I think that's where my next point was gonna go. He white also talks about how many fight for everything you fight you battle for every single yard. And you're not going down with one guy tackling if they're gonna get you down. It's going to be gang tackling situation. When you get your ball the ball and your hands. It's gonna take more than one guy to bring you down is that where that comes from your dad is kind of house raise watching you also on film, you like the block most receivers do not wanna block where did that come from. I mean, the running back about fuel place so like because Brian and put a lot of emphasis on block. And so that's kind of part of the job is not always about running rows. And rows you got to contribute to team every SPF gonna game Devaux Samuel. Join me in studio getting ready for the. Upcoming NFL draft attack everything in front of you, you attack the rehab process. You've made an impact issue look over your entire life to be in the position right now. How much pride do you have not only to be here? But to overcome everything you have to get here. I mean, like I say early Elms is bliss to be here. If you look at the way, I was raised in by my father stepmom, and my grandma like I was raised in a good way. But for is like welcome from that too. Many people make sizes to Sears opportunity, I get so people like you kind of concerned about yourself. You feel even you don't even more pressure. But you feel any pressure like I wanna take care of everybody who is taking care of me so far or at least do the best. I can to help out. Really haven't start thinking about there because I ain't got to. I got really ain't got the money it. So that a play a part in that draft by this or whatever if I feel like like, my dad is still mama grandma older brother need some help. And I'm able to help them out. I like that. All right. So you can only focus on what you can focus on. So what about the draft itself that you can focus on have you decided where you're going to watch the draft who you're going to watch it with all this work. And then you've got the big day hike treat that big day. So I decided not to go to the draft just because like my family and friends played a major role in into where I'm at today. So I kind of say that moment would do they've been there almost every game played in. So I feel like he's all right to sit out. Right. So any any kind of sense of where you might end up. Do you have a kind of a hunch or a gut instinct visas, which is don't like whatever have is. Are you gonna find out soon enough to twenty nine thousand NFL draft is coming up April twenty fifth through twenty seventh in Nashville? He is in all American first team all SEC as an all purpose player and returner deebo Samuel joining me in studio depot. Good. Meet you good to have you on the program. Listen, good luck with that. We'll be falling you. Thank you. Nice to see you. All right. So we're trying to get draft prospects as we possibly can before the draft itself. And we are getting close. He's gonna be one of the first Dame's picked deebo Samuel joining me in studio. All right. You thoughts on that? When we come back. Once again, we are wide open intil our number three, and I've got crispy coming up, then we'll talk some college basketball at that point. You have your phone number time. Now for a bottom of the hour. Sports update here. It is rich Ackerman.
"deebo samuel" Discussed on The College Draft with Ross Tucker
"He's quick he gets after it in the run game technique, not always great as a blocker at the point of attack. But the willingness is there he's not a slug as an athlete either. I don't think necessarily he's going to be kind of a Kyle us check kind of mismatch guy. But I think that he can do some things for he'll be interesting to watch mobile. So if Carolina wide receiver deebo Samuel we've talked about him quite a bit. Yeah. You know? I love me some deebo. He's built like a running back. He's six foot two fives gonna muscular frame really thick lower-half lined up both outside and inside in that offense for South Carolina. What stands out most about deebo is yards after catch abilities, not truly explosive tyreek hill Sean Jackson type of receiver. But he's got a nose for the end zone and similar to how golden Tate has been with the ball in his hands in the NFL. I think Samuel has been that dog in an after the catch. He's been a retarder. He plays all four special teams units. He's very highly competitive. The injuries have been a bit of an issue for not just the broken leg last year, but other nagging things throughout the course of his career. He's not the tallest longest. So he's certainly not a guy that is going to cater to everybody in every position and every offense. And I don't think he's a true deep threat in the way. We'll talk about some other guys, but he's just a fun sowed receiver. I think he can be a starter in most NFL offenses because of that yak Patel. Reliable possession guy in the middle of the field. And then potentially offer some big play potential as well. Let's get to Marshall wide receiver Tyree Brady I had a chance to see him down on western Kentucky. And he had a couple of big plays in the game. And he sure as heck looks the part. Yeah, he looks. He looks like what you want an NFL receiver to look like. Yeah, you're he's every bit of six three two hundred I long arms began his career Miami. So it was a big recruit then transferred up. In played for doc. Holliday up there, West Virginia. His game is all about size and his ability to catch one plays above the rim who go up and fight for the football out muscles people. He knows he can do it. He's really confident in those contests situations. He's just not a quick shifty separator. That's not his game. He's not a great runner right now. He's not versatile weapon the passing game. But if you need a guy with size surprising speed because he can get downfield. So get some speed in a straight line. He can work vertically natural boss kills again and go up and win at the catch point consistently that this is your guy. I think he can have a field day against these corners down at this game. But we'll see how he does northern Colorado wide receiver Alex Wesley. That's a new one friend. I mentioned him a few weeks ago Rossa, and that he was a small school guy that I had a chance to watch. He was the guy that Dame brew had bought up to me over on the journey of the draft podcast. And I watch them. I was really impressed kind of the opposite of Tyree Brady. And that he's you know, he's five eleven and changes under one eighty but this kid can run. He was a big time track athlete not just in high school. But also in college, and he was all American there northern Colorado that speed shows up on the football field. I was impressed with his ability to get vertical and take the top off of defense. I studied two games on month or so ago, and he can make plays downfield. But he's more than that as well. He catches a cleanly. And he's also got a good idea of what he's doing is route runner they line them up in different spots. And he's got a good idea of how to attack a corners leverage and get them turned around homerun routes over the middle of field and shows confidence working at traffic as well..
