The spit a few million dollars to collect signatures a republican legislature give the bidding of the non union contractors and there we had it and what it amounted to was the right of a local units of government and state government to pay workers less for doing the job and the argument is made by the skilled trades that you get lower quality were as a result of using lower quality labor. Which i've always believed that you get what you pay for and if you always go for the lowest bidder that's what you're gonna get in washington. The debate continues over. We've got a republican party. The scott no interest in policy. It seems as though republicans in congress are only concerned about one thing and that is power regaining power getting taking over the white house taking over congress again. But there's no policy agenda on the republican side. What republican stand for other than stopping joe biden. I can't think of anything proactive. That republicans have tried to do in congress since the election of twenty twenty Exactly and you've got walter up. People like ted cruz. Are lauren. colbert or marjorie taylor. Green or matt gaetz people of that ilk jim jordan. They basically are there to tweet and post on social media and own the lips. And that's basically what they do. That's not legislating. That's not governing marjorie taylor. Green in fact was exultant when she was tossed off of all our committee assignments. 'cause she said that would give her more time to do the other things that she wants to do. In congress rather than focusing on legislation and like it or not marjorie. The primary job of a member of the legislature is to legislate with. Marjorie is not interested in that she just wants to be pain in the ass for everybody and maker verbal points and like you said they lifted tweet and that's pretty much it but it does in the final bill bag better program. Is i think going to pass. I see the makings of compromise. Beginning to build. Both sides are playing tough the mansion moderate side and the for the problem solvers caucus offering about one point seven to two trillion dollars bernie sanders and the progressive holding out for three point. Five now but they are coming together and they have in the middle of this to people that are really good at forging compromises between different opinions. When you talkin. Joe biden and you're talking speaker of the house. Nancy pelosi chuck. Schumer is pretty good at it as well. I'm thinking that they're actually going to come to an agreement at some point the question that we have right now though is how do they get there because there are still some very very major differences. I think there's a consensus that daily. I wanna change the tax structure and secondly there are some major parts of.

They all think they know what's right and you're accomplishing very little. And in some cases you're actually making things worse. Oh absolutely much worse than they would not acknowledge in that same vein. What needs to be discussed around the table. There's an article that. I wanna talk about on food water air. That speaks to almost that same thing about not all all mine at the table. Not i'll voices at the table. I'll give you a tease. That's about this young lady. a is over ten years and it's paid for It's not like we're spending money It is getting paid for by taxing people that can afford the taxes If I need over $400,000 a year tax me I'm fine with that bathroom was almost dangerous for her And that's just that's insane I mean she had a she had a successful birth I mean the baby was fine and healthy But bedridden for 7 months who can do that And so the notion that you go through that for 7 or 8 months and then go you know what Nah Nah I'm done You know yeah exactly I mean for anybody to say that it's just she's just being hurt She said she did Are you that part that pessimistic always have to take hold onto your majority very seriously but also think that we do need to make sure that we're counting these economic numbers that you just talked about five point four percent unemployment you're looking at job growth And very spectacular way here even texas. We were doing very well here and had a lot of growth before the pandemic and continued to have some growth even during the And things are really picking backed up. Here is something that you can almost physically see when you go out and about In dallas fort worth every day. And so we need to make sure that we're touting these numbers and that we're talking about the president's infrastructure plan because it's going to put even more people back to work and if you're a conservative. Hey i think that you gotta be happy. Because the last time the economy was doing this remarkably wail and had turned around so quickly You have the president saying that i. It was a morning in america. And he's someone that is obviously very well bike on that side and about ronald reagan. And so every this is these are numbers that everybody should be able to get. So when congressman maloney says to your conference that we we have to quote course correct. What does that mean. does that mean talking. More forthrightly about the president's economic agenda or is it something else. I don't want to guess at exactly. What term maloney was speaking about But i think that You know that we need to drive these numbers home and talk about the fact that the economy is doing so well under biden and one of the reasons why students so well is. I believe is that he took a getting shots in people's arms very seriously the last president really as sort of by wavered on this and in people that may be covert really. Wasn't real you took lysol. It would fix it. Ain't just a bunch of crazy things like that and having a president be very serious about this and speak to the american public and a very sobering way. And the other thing which is even more potent is that you're now facing redistricting and i remember talking to election. Forecasts are rachel. Bitta coffer in preparation for my show. The sunday show where i asked her. Okay so which house races are you looking at. Which ones should we be paying attention to and she said that is almost impossible one because of redistricting into once re the districts are redrawn redrawn. Democrats stand to lose ten seats in the house before vote is even cast. So how do you go up against those two twin tidalwaves. Well first of all. Let me just say Got to put the guardrails backed up on the voting rights. Act that. there's any question about that. I'm from a state that was under section five dollars and it's one of the reasons why the democrats have the amount they haven't takes us right now. The republicans were far more segement sales in two thousand eleven. But we were able to get that overturned because the section five. If we're not able to put the guardrails back up on section five and get the john lewis act passed then you're going to see the republicans attempt to draw farinas seats in texas alone. And if you look at arizona you look at florida north carolina. You look at georgia. They really want to try to run the score up in those states in. Run the score up. Not just democrats first republican. They're going to be discriminated against hispanic and black voters in these states by taking away their opportunity to choose the representative of their choice. And so we we absolutely have to take that seriously. Because reynaud redistricting your. I don't wanna definitely don't want underplay redistricting. This is looming very large in two thousand and twenty two visa woman question for you and and it pertains to congresswoman debbie dingle of michigan who was warning the party in two thousand sixteen. Hey hey hey pay. Attention to donald trump. The guy. He could win while now. She is saying that democrats aren't quote breaking through. Why don't you think democrats are breaking through. We are not trying to hide. This story was specifically focused on concern over. The party's message. What is that concern. And do you agree with it. Well i i wanna just say kudos to sean patrick maloney and the digital say. This is the right thing to do right. I mean i was thinking about the happy talk doesn't get you anywhere just telling everyone like we're fine. We're going to win it's great. Yeah everyone in the party donors activists members need to be crystal clear about how steep hill. We have before us. And i was thinking back. Did you remember in two thousand and ten when our friend. And then what else. Presbytery robert gibbs. What on meet the press. And i think david gregory was hosted the time he asked him whether ask you were. There was a chance. Democrats could lose the house and he gives said yes. Which was patently obvious thing. It wasn't likely at the time in what you said about warning signs were everywhere. I mean unemployment was ten percent like it was pretty possible. Wasn't great and the house. The widow congressman john. Nichols you serve his seat. She said our message is not breaking through. And that's exactly right. That is what's happening. We've talked with us before. I think this is a megaphone problem. That a message problem. It's like people it's other. Were saying the wrong things is that people are not hearing them because we do not have the apparatus to get to them. There is some good news on this. There was a report last week. I think that democratic groups were going to spend a hundred million dollars in the during the month of august on messaging. Around the bipartisan infrastructure. Deal and the and the jobs and family plan to communicate to voters about it and so there is. There are some cavalry coming But yeah people have ever right to be concerned. It is seem somewhat patently obvious that if the election were held today we will lose the house because for i think about it this way. If joe biden's fifty point six which is a very respectable and good at providing present it. What are we in. That's a national poll that includes california new york etc. What do we think. His approval rating is in districts that either trump won or biden did less well than his national numbers and we know that generic democrats underperformed bided in these districts. And so this is obvious but it's important to say exactly what needs to be aware of the work ahead of us. I do agree that we're not breaking through with our message. I sort of always agree with that. It's very hard to break through the message. We've talked about that a million times. I i sort of wonder if it's more of an economy problem. General mood problem than it is a message problem and i wondered that because of a couple of things from this polling you know they said that both the american rescue plan in the american jobs plan in this pulling are incredibly popular. Incredibly popular with swing voters in battleground districts. Right not just like base. Democrats people love these plans and yet only forty two percent of the people in this in these polls Battleground voters trust democrats on the economy. And so and they also. Debbie dingle said that when she goes home to michigan in her in her district people. The democrats aren't doing enough to boost the economy so clearly. It seems like there is some financial concerns around the country. Economic concerns around the country and people don't feel the economy is where it should be and they don't see democrats doing enough to fix it now. Partly that can be solved by you know better. Messaging and spending a lot of money delivering that message to voters and saying look. We are doing a lot to help you. Here's what we're here's what we've already passed. And here's what we're fighting for now. I think that's That's a necessity. But i wonder if it truly get until the economy gets fixed and things are going well when people say. Oh yeah now. I feel like i'm doing better in my own life and i'm looking around the economy and things are good. I don't know i mean. Joe biden mailed a thousand dollar check to tens of millions of people in it didn't affect his approval rating down that does speak to the limits of white can. What else are they going to do that. It's more popular like the stuff in the or more impactful to people's lives. No i guess. What i'm saying is like until inflation comes in until until people say okay. Inflation really isn't a long term problem. it was temporary. It's coming down and now i'm in a better mood. Like i think that you know one thing you keep seeing in these polls in focus groups to is people just keep mentioning the inflation issue. And they're saying yeah maybe he gave me a thousand dollar check but now prices are rising. So what the fuck i. Which is biden has very little control over almost enough. Yeah no that's that's the challenge always economy. The president gets all the blame all the credit and has only limited influence on what actually happens. I mean i remember us like watching like bank. Default rates in greece being a really relevant reelection factor. Remember so you have a couple of choices here. I think we cannot leave this topic of keeping the house without pointing out that all of the messaging billions of dollars in ads would be less impactful than passing a one page bill in the senate that band partisan gerrymandering. That's the biggest problem and this is not the usual. Seems fall trump. after moe's fall. That's joe manchin cures cinemas cinemascope because everyone else's for that they pass that. But that is we that would if you had a choice between one hundred billion dollars in democratic ads between now and november or passing the one page ban on partisan gerrymandering about what would help us the most and keeping the house. It would definitely be gerrymandering been. I completely agree with that though. I was sort of thinking about it from the other perspective which is na world. i don't want people to think that the reason that the houses in jeopardy is only because of republican gerrymandering even. That's the biggest reason that if there were no gerrymandering we would still pose like this where the democratic challenger or the democrat is six points behind a republican in a battleground district. We have other problems to fix. So i don't want people just thinking like our messages perfect enough. All if only we just passed independent redistricting commissions. Everything would be great. Yeah we should. We should under independent redistricting commissions and eliminate ten republican states in california as one possible. Fuck which i think you can actually about initiative but you get my point but yeah it. The other thing is not to be overly dark about this but this is a poll of juryman districts. We don't even know how you're the that's what i'm saying. This is the best case scenario people. We got a lot of problems. We got a lot of problems but the other thing the other messaging question here is this will lead us into our next topic is should we spend money and time and energy advertising. What democrats have done to make your life better or should we spend time and energy.

Could Your Next Car Say 'No' to Drunk Driving?
"In the United States alone. Thirty people die every day and drunk. Driving related crashes that equates to one person every forty eight minutes but simple technology to prevent and even possibly end drunk driving exists so why aren't carmakers required to implement it uh-huh new legislation in the United States aims to do just that to require all new cars be equipped with Alcohol Addiction Systems by two thousand twenty four the reduce impaired driving for everyone act of two thousand nineteen known as the riot act was introduced to Congress from both sides of the aisle by Senator Tom Udall of New Mexico and Rick. Scott out of Florida who co-sponsored the Senate bill and representative Debbie Dingle of Michigan in the House. Democrats and Republicans working together. The lawmakers believed the law could save seven thousand lives per year. We spoke by email with Ned. Adrian's Senator Udalls Communications Director. He said Udal saw the success. That ignition interlock. Technology had in reducing the number of alcohol related driving fatalities in New Mexico indices alcohol detection. Technology is a big part of the solution in preventing drunk drivers from. I'm getting behind the wheel. The Right Act doesn't just call for automakers to implement alcohol detection technology on their own. The bill also provides funding for research and development element of advanced alcohol detection software. The legislation will establish a pilot program fleet vehicles equipped with the software including those from federal state and private partners. That means the technology will be tested on vehicles before being mandated for consumers the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA is also also partnering with Automobile Manufacturers to help develop detection systems that can be installed in vehicles the NHTSA will work with the private on motive coalition for traffic safety as well as directly with vehicle manufacturers suppliers and other interested parties including institutions of higher education expertise and automotive engineering to develop the technology not once the pilot program is underway results will initially be evaluated in the first twelve months and again every one hundred and eighty days the target eight for implementing the federally mandated. Technology in. All new vehicles will be no more than two years after the law is enacted as for how it will actually work. We can get some insight from current technology though that doesn't necessarily reflect the future an ignition interlock device or I I D- is essentially a breathalyzer connected to a car's ars ignition system once it's installed the car won't start until someone breathes into. Id with an alcohol. Free Breath. Drivers also can't disconnect the devices uses without damaging the vehicle. It's possible for a driver to trick these devices by having someone else provide the breath sample but the device is also demand rolling samples at regular intervals while the vehicle is in motion. Making it difficult for anyone other than the driver to comply and the statistics show that they work in May of Twenty nineteen mothers against drunk driving announced that in-car breathalyzers stop drivers who were drunk from starting their cars or three million times since two thousand six. That's that's when mad began pushing for ignition interlocks for every drunk driver mad collected. It's data from eleven ignition interlock manufacturers. The data found that. ID's stopped opt almost three hundred and forty eight thousand attempts by drivers with alcohol in their system. In two thousand eighteen alone lifesaver a provider of interlock devices and services says says on its website. That false positives are possible though a triggered by anything from mouthwash to fruit juice to pizza dough in that case a series of lockout periods are triggered before the driver can take another test anywhere from five minutes on up depending on the laws of the state if a rolling sample triggers a failure. The vehicle must be stopped as as soon as possible to pullover safely and failure on a subsequent test after a lockout period.
