DeAndre Hopkins released by Arizona Cardinals, team takes big salary cap hit

"The Arizona Cardinals have released three time all pro wide receiver Deandre Hopkins in a salary cap move Friday after they failed to find a trading partner in the off season, the soon to be 31 year old Hopkins would have counted close to $31 million against the cap this season. Hopkins had 221 catches for 2696 yards and 17 touchdowns in 35 games across three seasons with Arizona. He missed the first 6 games of last season while serving a 6 game suspension after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. I'm geffen coolbaugh.

"Your RB one on the depth chart right now. How does that feel to you, James Connor? Oh, man. I'm grateful. And I'm excited to get it started. It's a big responsibility, but you can't forget the responsibility and the blessing. So I know that it's a big role. And I feel like on demand for the job. So just come in day in and day out, given what I got and it's been my best self and I feel like that's pretty good. So I'll just bring other guys along. With me, the other running backs as well. As the rest of the team? And the concept in Arizona prior to your arrival and then last year there was a similar struggle finishing strong. Was always has been an issue in Arizona, but starting strong this year could not be more important, it appears with Deandre Hopkins going to be out for the first 6 games. Is that in, is that something that is being stressed to you starting strong as a team? No, I think that this and the job description. We understand the circumstances that we're in with players. Being gone and whatnot for the first couple of weeks and so on. Day in and day out, we just appreciate that message of doing your job doing your role, being your best self and stepping up, man. That's what this game of football is about. It's about stepping up and so that's the message that the message is finished all the way through is finishing, but you got to start fast, of course. But you got to finish. You became finished and with starting fast. So you don't just want to start fast and leave it at that. So with this project and finishing, we kind of finish hard and practice finishing around doing this and doing a little things right day in and day out in the building. How much did last year's finish creep into your thoughts throughout the months between seasons? It crypt in there, just knowing how good of a football team we are. And knowing what we're capable of and the talent that we got is unacceptable, we got to finish. And so we had the football team to do it. We had the resources and now we just got to we work in and so we got action. We got action coming up here pretty soon. And we can't wait to get it started. James Connor, Arizona Cardinals. "Air raid and we saw a lot of that ten personnel, but quietly this offense was actually better running the ball and throwing to tight ends that first year. And I think they need to go back to that in a lot of ways. This is not a team that can roll out four wide receivers. This is a team that drafted Trey McBride who I thought was the best tight end in the draft, and of course, has Zach Ertz as well and has a good running back situation. I think they need to radically rethink their offense if they expect to compete this season. I mean, this is a good point, I mean, I would say, do they view Hollywood as a bonafide number one? Because I don't know if they do. Now, I know they traded a first round pick form so you would think that. But I don't know if they view him as the same scheme changer that Deandre Hopkins is. Last year, Kyler was 8 and two as they're starting quarterback with Deandre Hopkins. He was one in four without him. So how does cliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray in a must win year contracts online all that stuff? How do they build an offense without that bona FIDE number one scheme changing kind of dominant receiver? Because I do not believe that's Hollywood Brown and I don't believe it's rendezvous more, so if they go to a 12 offense, you're also playing to what I would say is not your quarterback strength. That's interesting. Amina, when you think about Hollywood Brown and the way that you look at him is he a bona FIDE number one, I realize maybe some of that's left to be figured out, but right now yeah. I mean, he certainly not a number one in the sense that Hopkins was one of the most versatile and sure handed notably the contrast there, receivers in the NFL. He completely tilts the field in a way that Hollywood Brown doesn't. However, Hollywood brings so unique attributes to this offense, in addition to his speed, you can use him to stretch the field horizontally. So again, this is really a challenge for cliff Kingsbury more than anyone else. All right, let's get to the other breaking news of the day. That's tyron Matthew. And over the last three seasons, Matthew was held opposing quarterbacks to the 5th lowest passer rating among players that have been targeted at least a 125 times. Matthew has the best mark by a safety and he's one of two defensive backs to earn three first team all pro selections since 2015. That's a long with Jalen Ramsey. So he now signs with the saints he goes home, Dan, how do you feel about this signing? I love it for New Orleans. I think first of all, you'll see him play that very similar Malcolm Jenkins type of role where he could play linebacker, it'll be a blitzer, the playmate safety. I love that it allows other players on their defense to play to their ideal positions like Chauncey Gardner Johnson doesn't have to play safety. He then allows him to play inside of that nickel position. They got Marcus made from the New York Jets. The saints fundamentally meaning you know this, like defensively, they're about we want to rush for. We want to play that man to man sticky coverage underneath and they're too safety's really are instinct based vision based ball hawks because of the pressure in the coverage and I think that is what to Ron Matthew does absolutely at his best. And if that pass rush is as good as it has been in years past, this is going to be phenomenal for the saints defense. Nina, this team had a good couple of days in terms of signing and what did you think of their draft, notably you think about Chris O lobby, they really wanted to get a lobby on this team, obviously. Yeah, I think everything the saints have done from the off season to signing Matthew to their draft speaks to their confidence in Jameis Winston. To the fact that they believe they can win now, going back to the lava trade. You know, so we saw some other big wide receiver moves in this draft, the Lions trading out for Jameson Williams, the eagles trading, a first rounder for AJ Brown and then paying him notably, those teams did not trade 2023 first round picks. The saints did that to go up and get olave. That is a win now state of mind, whether it'll work, remains to be seen, but I think their intentions and their approach to this season are very clear and make a bit of sense when you consider as we've discussed the weekend end of C yeah, Adam, when you broke the news about the saints trading with the eagles when it came to the draft picks, you said that the saints really felt good about their chances. How would you add on to that now that you see this signing and then of course they're draft? Well, it's very evident. They obviously felt like they had to move up to stay in front of the Washington commanders and the Green Bay Packers to go get Chris a lobby because I think they felt that those two teams were zeroed in on a lobby. And if you just look at all these moves, Tyra Matt that on a cap strapped team, it's a situation where they believe that they're good enough to beat Tom Brady and the bucks this season, which is why they made the moves for the picks. This season because they believe that they can win the division this season and the honey badger is just more evidence of that. They're playing for now. And if it goes the other way, the Philadelphia Eagles would be the benefactors of it in the 2023 drip, but right now the saints feel like they're built to compete and win this upcoming season. This saints defensive line is dominated Tampa Bay over the last two years and that Tampa Bay offensive line was better than it is now. The saints season will come down to two things. How well Jameis Winston plays off the knee and without Sean Payton and is Trevor penning the legit left tackle that they believe him to be. I can not wait to see what Jameis Winston does this year. You guys, I feel like this could finally be the Jameis that we thought he would be years ago when he was drafted. And when we felt like he brought so much talent to the league, we got a lot more coming your way on NFL life this week. You guys, we're not going anywhere. "Quarterbacks, always a major storyline in the draft, but the position lost some momentum this year, only one quarterback taken round one. Kenny Pickett taking 20th overall to the Steelers. Mel kiper junior, you like Pickett being the first QB off the board? Well, it's a pickle at the same grade. They were right there on the board at the same spot. Think about the Mark Whipple. Mark Whipple coach Ben Roethlisberger when he was a rookie playing right away and the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl Mark Whipple coach Kenny Pickett. They know more about Kenny picked than anybody playing a Heinz field. Sometimes you know somebody so well, you maybe don't take them because you find something wrong. They didn't do everything about Kenny Pickett and they loved it. They took them credit to the organization in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kevin Colbert. They did all their due diligence. They know him better than everybody else. And now he's the quarterback. He goes across the hall, Desmond Ritter, the next port of act drafted all the way round three to the falcons, the other quarterback for Atlanta, Marcus Mariota. Here's Ritter on his excitement, going to Atlanta. They're going to get everything out of me. They're going to get a Super Bowl out of me. They're going to get someone who comes in and works hard every single day. First one in last one out. And you know, I'm not leaving their target. I get a Super Bowl. Mina, you like this pick by the falcons? I do. I love it. So here's the thing. Look at their whole team as a whole. You got Drake London, big bodied physical wide receiver next to Kyle Pitts, who's obviously incredibly strong and fast as well. And now you've got a quarterback who is aggressive inside the pocket, but can also do designed runs really well outside of it. If you squint hard enough, it's kind of the Tennessee Titans and you see the vision that Arthur Smith is building in Atlanta, finally. Oh, I love it. At Malik Willis had to drop them. We didn't see coming. He was drafted by Tennessee in the third round with the 86th overall pick. Dan, you predicted a quarterback to Tennessee, ends up being Willis. Yeah, and I think it makes a lot of sense for both him and the team. Number one, the team scheme is built upon quarterback movement. Getting guys outside of the pocket fully halfway and then the play action game. That's a maliko strength. I also love the fact that they do have Ryan Tannehill, and he doesn't have to get on the field right now and try to win and develop at the same time. And I love the fact that their head coach and general manager are securing their jobs. So they're not going to feel the pressure to run him on the field and prove to ownership. We've got this young player save our jobs. It's a really ideal fit for both player and organization. On to Carolina, many projected a quarterback to them with the 6th overall pick. They waited until number 94 to draft almost quarterback Matt corral Todd is this a good fit? Hello, it's a good value. I can tell you that getting corral in the third round. I don't know about the fit though, honestly. This year, Sam darnold, to me, will provide more than Matt coral could as a rookie. And then moving forward, I would much rather have traded up 9 spots and gotten ahead of where Malik Willis was coming off the board and take him then, where the Tennessee Titans took him 8 picks ahead of where they took Matt corral. To me, having a situation where Malik Willis could come in and be the guy in the future and you have one more year with Sam Sam darnold. That makes all the sense in the world to me. Carell, yeah, good value fit. I don't see him as a future star in the league though. Dan, the cameras over there. What are you doing over there? I'm swinging. Yeah, just my through. That's a good point. So you're right now. Oh my goodness. They might need you. All right, we got a lot more coming your way on NFL live. We're gonna get back to the breaking news the date. Total mess. Tyron Matthew heading home to New Orleans. We'll explain how that fit makes sense. Also the news around Deandre Hopkins being suspended for 6 games. Where do the Cardinals go from there? Adam Schefter rejoins with the latest. I'm bullish on the saints, ready? Okay. We're back on NFL live with breaking news today. Adam Schefter here, let's begin with the story around the saints agreement with tyron Matthew. Well, they've agreement in place right now, Laura, a three year $33 million contract that includes $18 million guaranteed the language is still being finalized. The deal is yet to be signed, but it is expected to be signed. And honey badger will come home to New Orleans where he was born and raised in healthy a leader on that defense in the secondary, the saints visited with him about a month ago, went into the draft, hoping to get some safety help, didn't get it there. Obviously started back up talks with tyron Mattel and they'll get that deal done here this week before much time three years, 33 million in the big news today. Of course, Deandre Hopkins suspended 6 games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy. He is withdrawn his appeal. The suspension stands he will be allowed to go through the pre season, but he will be out for the first 6 games, which matches the amount of time that he missed at the end of last season with a knee injury earlier in the year. He had an ankle injury and over the course of the first 8 years of his career, he missed only one game. But last year, the absences started piling up and now they will continue into the 2022 season Hopkins will miss the first 6 games for violating the league's PED policy. Yeah, and Adam as we set up the top of the show, Kyler Murray, a very different quarterback with and without Hopkins, as many quarterbacks would be. Dan, as you hear what's going on with Deandre Hopkins, you think about the cardinal situation, the money that they may need to pay Kyler Murray, what comes to mind? Green Bay? The packers should call Arizona. That's what I would do. So I set this on last week when the Hollywood Brown trade went down on NFL live, I said, how are they going to pay Hollywood Brown? Who are they going to? Because of the contract or because of the trade, they're going to pay Kyler Murray and find a way to redo Deandre Hopkins. You're not going to be able to do all three. And if I'm Arizona, I'm sitting here going, I lose Deandre Hopkins for a third of the season. This is a way for me to find a way to get your money off of my books. And if I'm Green Bay, and I could take a draft pick and send it to Arizona, now is contract, I think, is like 18 million this year, so that's a big number, but I don't need you for the first 6 games. I'm in the playoffs because the conference is weak. I want that difference maker receiver. And now it becomes a completely different conversation about Green Bay. So if I was Green Bay, I would be calling Arizona to see what would it cost to get Deandre Hopkins, and if I was Arizona, I would be thinking long and hard about making that deal. Wow, I mean, I'll look at this from the Cardinals kind of point of view to do that sort of deal with one of the few contenders in the NFC would basically being or conceding rather that they don't think they're going to be a playoff team. This season, honestly. And I don't think given the head coach being on a hot seat, frankly. Obviously they were extended, but that doesn't really mean much these days. They'd be willing to do that. I thought I had about the cardinals, though, ever since Adam broke the news at the beginning of the show is when cliff Kingsbury came in, everyone expected.

"The strange. So skinny. But Thornton in the second round gives me vibes of Corey Coleman. Gives me vibes of Kendall Wright. Gives me vibes of Denzel mims or Terrell Tyrell Williams. Like these Baylor receivers that are supposed to be awesome receivers, they come into the NFL and then they're not great players. And for an offense that needed a difference maker at receiver, the receivers that went after Thor and I know the Patriots were looking for speed. The receivers that went after them were sky more Alec pierce. George pickens. Like, give me one of those cats and I feel way better because they're both speedy receivers and good players. You know more refined wide receivers. And then the selection of a quarterback when I had Mac Jones makes no sense to me. And then the selection of two tailbacks when I have Damien Harris and ramonda Stevens makes absolutely no sense to me. So I get it's the Patriots, but I'm confused by a lot of what they did. Yeah, Dan, I think the point is with them. There was the reaches. And I think when you look at the players are not bad. And while I was talking about the rankings, the number. Remember that number is the same as some guys that maybe could have been a little ahead. So if you're 68, you could have very easily been on a rankings. I thought it was just the grades are so similar, and some are exactly the same. 68, 69 could very easily be 59. 55 in that area. So when you look at the guys, I think the key is going to be obviously taekwon Thornton. Taekwon Thornton is a spindly receiver, but he's got incredible speed. I thought he showed toughness so he blocked well in some games that are at the work with Thornton and Jack Jones had ten career interceptions, go back to USC and what he did at Arizona state. And Marcus Jones had 9 returns. 6 kick off returns for touchdowns three punt returns. He intercepted 9 passes in his career, both at Troy and a Houston. So some of these guys have ability, all we're saying is they want a little earlier than they should have. And my attitude is, you talk about a C plus and a B minus. I had ten teams with B minus two with C++. C++. That's kind of splitting the hairs, I think. Yeah, you know, guys, I found this really interesting. The Patriots have drafted two players since 2014 that have been selected to a Pro Bowl in their career. That's tied for the fewest in the NFL. Those players are Mac Jones and Jake Bailey. So if you look at the dress, wow, look at this. Yeah, once upon her. And then one of course is the quarterback. And then there's Tom Brady, of course, before that. Anyway, coming up. We've got only one quarterback promising a Super Bowl right after being drafted and that was the falcon's third rounder. Desmond Ritter, even though he has Latvia expectations, here why Mina loves that pick. Plus, we are back to the breaking news of the day. Everything you need to know about tyron Matthew and the suspension of Deandre Hopkins, Adam Schefter rejoins us and of course these guys have all the analysis. We'll be right back here on NFL live. "Where tyron Matthew is landing Adam Schefter here with the latest on the honey badger to the saints Adam take it away. What more can you tell us? Well, lord, the deal is now in place. It's gonna be a three year, $33 million contract for tyron Mattel, including $18 million guaranteed. He will be returning home to New Orleans where he was born, where he was raised the saints did not get a safety on draft weekend and so they turned their attention to the honey badger. And the honey badger will only be too happy to sign that three year deal. Now they're still going over the language and they still have to finalize the deal, but the agreement is in place. Three years, 33 million, 18 million guaranteed, honey badger is going to be a scene. Yeah, I love to hear this when it finally came down. We've been here in the rumblings as you had been telling us it may happen. And finally, we see him go to the saints and go back home. Another developing story, Adam. This one involves the Giants new defensive end, kayvon thibodeau. What more can you share here? Well, this is an interesting story, and it goes back to the pre draft process and a night where the Giants had Aidan Hutchinson and kayvon thibodeau out to dinner the very same night. And it was a situation where they were out with the Giants coaches for an office members and the Giants assistant defensive line coach Brian Cox essentially questioned both players went from aid and Hutchinson, some questions to kayvon thibodeau, but kevon thibodeau did not like the line of questioning that Brian Cox delivered to him and after a couple of questions about his family's history and his own personal history. He had to go to the bathroom to cool off and cool down. Eventually, he came back and there were some people around the league that thought that this might prevent the Giants from drafting immunizations that occur between the two men. I think Brian Cox was trying to push some buttons here, frankly, and he did push them on kayvon thibodeaux, but the Giants did an awful lot of research on kayvon thibodeaux and in the end they drafted him the two met again this weekend. They're both putting it behind them, moving forward, but it was an interesting incident leading up to the track that had some people in the league wondering if the Giants would go in that direction. Yeah, Adam, let's bring in Mina chimes here. I mean, what's your reaction to hearing this story? I mean, you know, first I should say, it weren't there, right? But what thibodeau is alleging is something that has plagued the draft process for decades, which is stories from black players of them feeling dehumanized, disrespected, or stereotyped. By coaches evaluators, the media of all backgrounds. I mean, Laura, this very weekend, a bear scout said out loud that part of the reason they like to quant risk are the safety out of Penn State was because he was, quote, PhD, poor, hungry, and desperate. And you hear that and you think, man, if that's what they're saying in public, what is being said behind closed doors? I mean, it's amazing that brisker has overcome adversity and he should be championed, but to reduce his story to a draft attribute like a 40 time is to reduce who he is as a human being. This is something I think we've all been complicit in. Including the media in our word choice, the presentation of stories, but it's 2022 and by now we should really all know better. Yeah, I gotta say, being in the green room with the families of these prospects and looking at the sacrifice real time as they found out that their lives would be changed. There's so much more to these stories than a lot of these interviews and maybe the way that we presented. That's very, very well said, Mina. We've got a lot more coming your way today on NFL live, including some post draft grades from our expert Mel kiper junior he'll explain why the New England Patriots received his lowest grade of any team this year. And after the Hollywood Brown trade from the ravens last week, he said, he was put in situations that weren't the best for him. It Mina and Dan will explain why this isn't as big of a loss for Lamar as you might think a lot more NFL live on the way. Keep it locked right here. Welcome to NFL live major breaking news to begin the show and for that we go to Adam Schefter. What do we need to know Adam? Deandre Hopkins is being suspended 6 games for violating the NFL's performance, enhancing drug policy. The Cardinals have known about the suspension. I believe it contributed to the fact that they traded for Marquise Brown on draft night, but Kyler Murray is losing his top weapon on the offensive side of the football. Now they did re sign and bring back AJ green and they do have rondale Moore and they did trade for Marquise Brown. But they're going to be without Deandre Hopkins now for the first 6 games of the season. That is official. That'll be announced at a later date, but Deandre Hopkins no longer will be a part of this football team for the first 6 games, Laura. Adam, a lot of times when you see these suspensions happen, people try to appeal them. Is that something that we're expecting here? Or is this just a solid 6 games and no appeal? Yeah, my understanding is that appeal has been withdrawn, not gonna happen. Essentially, the suspension is final and binding. And so the cardinals will be without Deandre Hopkins for the 6 games and it'll be another obstacle that this team has to overcome as it deals with kyla Murray's unhappiness as it tries to come back. Remember, Christian Kirk is in Jacksonville. Chase Edmonds is in Miami. This team has some weapons to try to make up for and now one of the biggest blows of all Deandre Hopkins has gone for 6 games. We'll be on this throughout the show as well as plenty other things and, you know, Dan, when you hear this news and you think about what we thought the Cardinals were as they added Hollywood Brown Adam mentions AJ green, we thought Deandre Hopkins is part of this offense. What's your reaction? They're not a playoff team without Deandre Hopkins. And they were with before this news. If you look at Kyler performance last year, our stat guy Brian picked this out. Okay, so QBR with Deandre Hopkins on the field 62, 72% completion percentage 8.8 yards per attempt. That's for Kala Murray last year with Deandre on the field. With hop off the field, QBR goes from 62 to 46. That is a massive drop off, 72% completion 65. That's a huge drop off, and then 8.8 yards per attempt to 6.6. That's almost two yards or over two yards per attempt less. That's a massive kind of performance indicator that Kyler is a significantly better player with Deandre Hopkins on the field, obviously than without. And for a third of the season for him to be gone, is a huge loss for this offense. They're not going to be reliant on AJ green. Rondale Moore is a nice piece, and Hollywood Brown now has to step into being the absolute number one pass catching option at wide receiver for Arizona. This is devastating for them. Yeah, I agree with Dan. I mean, this is a massive, massive loss. But I also do think it might indicate some changes in the Arizona offense schematically, this is an offense that under cliff Kingsbury has used more ten personnel than just about any other team in the league other than buffalo, meaning four wide receivers on the field. That's obviously going to change now. And I was thinking during the draft when they took Trey McBride, who I felt was the best tight end available. We might see more too tight end sets, which is actually when you look over the last couple of years, something they've been quietly very good and of course it got Zach Ertz as well. I think that also benefits Marquis Brown. You know, if they are more focused on the run and have that heavier personnel, you could open up some deep shot opportunities for him down the field, but don't get it wrong. Do you under Hopkins is everything to this team? And you know what else is a little bit alarming, Mina is this is a team that has the conversation of this off season is how do they finish better? They've gotten off to such good starts on your cliff Kingsbury. How do they finish better? Now knowing that their start is going to be impacted by this in the loss of Deandre Hopkins for 6 games, how do they start well enough to even make them the end of their season or the finish of their season matter? You know, I want to jump in here and get Adam back involved because Adam, I think the big story has been Kyler Murray and you mentioned that when you think about everything that they're dealing with now, even though the Cardinals have known about this, how do you think this affects Kyler? Well, look, the last we heard from Kyler Murray, he tweeted something about let's go cardinals here. So he seemed to be back on the same page as the organization, but together they face now some enormous challenges that nobody could have seen coming. This potentially being one of the biggest. Think about the Cardinals offense last year, once Deandre Hopkins got hurt and left the lineup with that injury in the second half of the year. They were not the same offense without him. They struggled down the stretch and they struggled down the stretch in large part because of the greatness of Deandre Hopkins and what he means to that offense. Now they will be without him for the first 6 games of this season and they will have to overcome at the start of this season with they couldn't overcome at the end of last season and figure out a way to get it done. Now that's why they go out and trade for Marquise Brown on draft night. That's why they go and re sign AJ green. That's why they hope that rondale Moore is that much further along in this offense in which they have grand plans for him, but the fact of the matter is they have struggled to overcome the absence of one of the top wide receivers in the game. And this is now the latest challenge that awaits Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. I'll give you the final word here. Yeah, I mean, I couldn't agree more. We saw, especially in the playoffs, how important Hopkins was really the focal point of this offense when he played. There's a reason why we all praise the trade, and I want to say, you know, Hopkins is a true receiver. He could succeed at any level, not just as a deep threat or on slants and comebacks, but really anything Kyler Murray needed. Now he loses that. You know, I like Hollywood Brown a lot, but he doesn't have that versatility, and I don't think anyone on this roster does. All right, again, we will find out the official NFL schedule. That release happens Thursday, may 12th to sort of identify when you would see Deandre Hopkins back in the mix with this Cardinals team. I think that's going to be really important as you look for them trying to weather that storm, trying to make something without him until they get him back. Some more breaking news is we finally have our.

"Bet online where the game starts. The chiefs could barely beat the charges. They tried to lose that game about 7 times. The Steelers wanted really ugly game against the Titans. The ravens almost beat the packers with a bunch of their backups. So let's be honest. This is anyone. This is anyone's year. This is anyone's year. There is not one team in the NFL that looks like they could steamroll their way to the playoff through the playoffs. Not one. The chiefs are the number one seed and they it makes sense, right? Because they have Patrick Mahomes. They have Andy Reid. They have a team in place that has been to multiple super bowls. They've been in the last three AFC championship games. So the steadiness is going to get you through a tough season, but that offense is still struggling. And no disrespect to the chief defense, they've been incredible and they've really stepped it up, but that is not a complex defense. It's difficult to figure out. So you run into a bill Bella check or John Harbaugh or Mike Tomlin. Somebody with a lot of playoff experience, you've seen this team a ton. I'm not sure spagnol is going to be able to put together a defense. It's just impossible to figure out. Moving on a little bit from the Patriots, who I'm just simply not worried about at this point because again there's just until if something goes wrong against the bills and whatever else they've got the bills, Jaguars and dolphins ahead. Could they lose the dolphins game short? Could they lose their bills game? Sure. Are they going to lose the next three? Of course not. They're in the playoffs. Seeding aside they're in the playoffs. So I'm just, I can't linger on that too much. Moving on to the contender pretender, narrative across the league, you know, let's take a look at the cardinals who lost an insane game to the lions this week. The Cardinals were without Deandre Hopkins, and it's pretty clear that Kyler Murray has been struggling since he came back. He is just not a 100% from his injury. Also, you have an unproven coach with cliff Kingsbury, so they are faltering. The defense has not been the same since JJ watt got hurt, shocker. But they are a team that should be able to withstand the loss of Deandre Hopkins and still win a game in Detroit. So that's not really an excuse, right? Deandre Hopkins hasn't even been there most prolific receiver this year. Christian Kirk and AJ green have been more prolific this season. They've been more consistent this season than Deandre Hopkins. So at this point, Deandre Hopkins is a luxury. He should always be a luxury. You can't need him to win games. So yeah, they are struggling. They could be slipping. No one is putting them in an NFC championship game anytime soon until we see how the rest.

"Would go full bore with my my cardinals that I drafted. Here's my Super Saver Stack and see what you think of it because I thought Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins So I could By a little bit higher level of player and other positions. I went Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson. Okay? Um I don't mind that at all. It's just I go back to the Vikings have the lowest vaccination rate. You might miss some games and then the shoulder for Jefferson is a little bit of a concern, but I think they're going to put up what you expect from the ceiling. Well, I just mean for this weekend I'm talking about Cincinnati. So yeah. Covid could creep into it by assuming that they're not. You know, they don't get covid in the next couple of days. I'm just talking about DFS style. Oh, yeah. No, I would. I would I'll roll big with him. Yes, I'm in agreement. I'm sorry about that. I misunderstood. No, I I don't have Kirk cousins or Justin Jefferson on my roster, so I can't even I can't do anything like that, Um So let me ask you two questions one being a former chief like and maybe I think too much into this, But I am hesitant to and I don't want to say Bradley Bradley, like I did earlier today, Nick job. I'm hesitant to use him this weekend because of the Kareem Hunt factor facing the Chiefs because that's the team that released them. And so if you're the head coach, and this guy means a lot in your locker room. If you get down near the goal line, I can see Kareem Hunt altering a touchdown. From Nick job this week, So I really am hesitant to use Nick. Chuck. I'm I'm with you. I mean, take it for what it's worth, but I'm absolutely with you. On that I I could totally see Nick Chubb being the feature back and having a pretty good game, and then the Browns get within the five And then all of a sudden, here comes Kareem on Yeah, That's what that's kind of what I'm thinking as well. So I wanted to make sure we're on the same page on that. The other one is I was thinking about, you know the excitement of week one. And it's weird, because I don't remember anything that's ever happened to me in, like weeks. Four weeks, six Anything But I still have two things one good and one bad that I remember from a season open air, and I wondered if you did that. And if that was common in fantasy, or like because the Calvin Johnson game where they was ruled in non catch many years ago against the Bears in the back of the end zone that was in week one, and that cost me a game, and I'm still mad about it to this day. Um And I wondered if you had any, you know, just season opening memory. Uh, none that I can think of. I'll text year later. If I if I think of any I wasn't even I try to block out all the negatives that happened to me and fantasy, and maybe I don't get any better because of it. But I, uh I'll let you know I can't think of any off the top of my head, though. Matt Wylie, The Gazette. My guest here on drive time sports. I know we talked about the Broncos running back situation for the season. But going into the Giants game and just the Broncos as a whole. Where you at with Melvin Gordon Javonte Williams, or are you looking for the Broncos to throw it around the ball yard on Sunday? I think it's like a lot will just depend on Game flow, but that is another one. That's a revenge game. Shermer there, he's going to try to exploit the Giants defense. He's you know, the former head coach, Broncosoffense coordinator, So I think they're going to pass a lot. I think They want to. You know, not have just an 11 for 15 touchdown game out of Bridgewater because then they know that people will chirp about Drew lock or what they didn't do on offense, so I think they are going to pass. Quite a bit this weekend and then based on the Giants roster, how it ended last season. That's where you can exploit that defense. Yeah. Based on last season, you can exploit them almost anywhere, But, yeah, it's a new year. Well in the red zone, too. I mean, as I look at as I look at this game If you have Melvin Gordon, or you have, say Kwan Barkley. Or, you know, if you look at, you know, running backs, I'm either the Giants or the Denver Broncos, or you look at Red's traditional red zone weapons. Both of these teams were horrendous. In the red zone, going defending the Red zone last year. But then the other side of the coin is they were both not good at scoring in the red zone, so I don't know what to make of what happens when those two teams getting the red zone on Sunday. Well, the one player that unfortunately my numbers had him a lot higher than anyone else, apparently, but I got quite a few shares of Kenny Golladay on my fantasy jeans. I am not using him this weekend against the Broncos secondary. Plus, he's coming off an injury. I'm just I'm not going to risk it. Uh, let's get to some of your fantasy football conundrums at 522987 to Alex asked, do he Does he play Mike Evans or Omari Cooper? Who do you like better tonight? I would probably go with Evan. Just because the you know the home game, the excitement of it, but I think both are really strong place. I wonder who is like third. Receiver is because I would probably try to start both of those players like that. Whoever that it must have a phenomenal rock. Well, I'm guessing that's a DFS question. Oh, yeah, I'm like somebody I mean. It's Alex should be hashtag blessed that. Yeah, That's two of his guys. I mean, I think that that was DFS, but I don't know. Um Uh, Jason, says Herbert against Washington or and you talked about this a little bit with the Pat Shurmur revenge game. Do you like Teddy versus the Giants a little bit better than Herbert against Washington. I don't because if that's one where if I benched Herbert, and he just went bonkers in his first ever opening weekend start, and I'd like Teddy Bridgewater instead of him. I would just be so mad at myself like whereas If I was to Bridgewater goes girls bonkers on my bench. I can live with it. But Herbert, I couldn't I couldn't. I would just be so mad at myself for overthinking it. Um DeAndre Swift or Myles Gaskin. I like gasket this week. I like I like both the running back running back to that game Surprisingly, and I would I would lean towards Gaskin just because of the injury, and I just Detroit. If you go by the lines they could be behind. Um They They have Jamal Williams there that more of the past catching back. I don't trust swift as much yet, but I do like swift outlook for the seats. Um, CD, Lamb or Adam feeling. Who That's a tough one. I would probably go with. Well. It depends on what the person thinks They think Tampa's going to roll and that Dallas is going to be behind. Then go with the lamb. And, uh, but I personally would go with feeling well, Actually, I think that back if it's a point for cats Do? Yes, depend on scoring, but I would probably go with Point for catch CD Lamb non point for catch feelings because feeling that, based on his numbers last year was so touchdown dependent to be relevant facts. Dak or Stats pad.

NFL Sets Stiff Penalties for the Unvaccinated

"Is cracking down to get players to get Covid 19 vaccines Just days before training camps began, All 32 teams got a memo saying outbreaks among unvaccinated players could cause teams to forfeit games. That would be costly for both the teams and players CBS this morning Saturday, co host Dana Jacobson explains Why there's this no nonsense approach. There's Brady's past Grand Kowske. At the end of the 2020 NFL season, the league managed to crown a champion. Getting there wasn't easy. Covid outbreaks among teams forced the league to reschedule several games, which caused logistical and financial headaches. NFL team owners want to have these games played in full and as safely as possible. Jonathan Jones is a CBS sports NFL insider. He says the league hopes to avoid a repeat of last year, which is why it sent a memo to all 32 teams Thursday, warning that if a covid spike on a team postpones again, which can't be rescheduled, the team responsible will have to forfeit shoulder the financial losses and players on both teams won't get paid. The memo upset several league stars like opera wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who posted then deleted this tweet being put in a position to hurt my team because I don't want to partake in the vaccine is making me question my future in the NFL. He later posted. I got about nine more years than me. You look at the monetary side of this, and of course, it does not benefit the owners to miss out on any of these games. Jones says The NFL memo is proof that owners don't think enough players are protected. You want to be able to deliver on the entire 17 game schedule and then play a full postseason and deliver Product to all of your fans, all of your media partners, Dr.

NFL Players React to COVID Outbreak Policy

"We're talking about the NFL's protocols. Vaccination protocols, health and safety protocols. The fact that unvaccinated players and for staff if they lead to an outbreak, The team has to pony up money. Lost revenue. The players on both teams. Both teams lose game checks. And, Yeah, you get a loss on your record. You forfeit the game, But you getting lost. You don't play that game again. The NFL is basically putting it's foot to the next of players to kind of pressure them to get vaccinated. The NFL is a business that ain't messing around with their money. DeAndre Hopkins just semi threatened retirement and he was just like No, I'm Don't worry about it. He deleted the tweet. He's like, Hey, I plan on being here for nine more years. Jalen Ramsey said. Look, I am not going to pressure my teammates. He says. Whatever they do, they do. He says. I get it. I'm not going to pressure anybody. Stefon Diggs is talking about accountability is availability. He's in favor of, you know players getting vaccinated. Baker Mayfield says that it will be a competitive advantage for any team that's vaccinated. The majority. He says. It's way more than that. It's about safety, general health and well being of human life.

"Honestly robbed you notice. I'm doing tv radio from my house. I got student state of the art studio in my house. Now i could not get vaccinated and it really wouldn't affect anybody but my family really right because i'm not seeing everybody. I'm not out at games. And and i don't have to leave for my job and i have been vaccinated by the way but if you have a job where you're constantly in contact with others then. Yeah i mean the company you work for is well within their rights to put something like this place because your refusal to take it could at the end of the or get the vaccine could at the end of the day cost them money exactly. Yeah they have every right as a company to look out both for the wellbeing of the other players and coaches and staff members in addition to their own financial. Well being that is well within their right. They are company. They can decide what they wanna do. Now as it relates to the audrey hoppy you put that initial tweet which he took down almost immediately where he said you know. He was thinking about retiring because he didn't know. If if you take the vaccine he was going to retire. And i am fully vaccinated. I've also had kobe before. My one and a half year old daughter has at it. So i know pretty well would it can do to someone my age. Who made did. Did you have a lot of symptoms. Mine was not too bad. My my daughter's was a little rough there. Because the doctor told her told us that if her oxygen levels drop below in ninety to take her to the immediately and the first few days she was ninety two ninety three fluctuating back and forth so thankfully it never got to the point. We gotta go but it. It was very scary to say the least right. And so but this will save for deandre hopkins if you are nervous about taking a vaccine that is still not fully. Fda approved that we don't know the long term ramifications of it. We don't know what could happen. And how it.

Chris running the turntables today. He does a great job super producer. Rob g as i said is in and the updates. Steve de sager right rob. Let's get to it. I'll let you explain what steve disagree. Just set in the update. What's going on with the nfl. As they sent out this memo basically flexing their muscles and there's no doubt about it they want players get vaccinated and they know they're not going to lay down a law where you absolutely must get vaccinated play in the nfl. But what they did today. It was a pretty. It was darn close to. Oh yeah it was the Non mandate mandate that they put on the nfl. Now you're all last season when there were a lot of covert outbreaks all across the league. They really bent over backwards to adjust. Schedules have teams playing twice in four. I believe that we had our first wednesday night game at one point last season like they did whatever they had to do to reschedule games and this season. They've decided if it comes down to a covert outbreak again. And it's late in the season and you say hey. Can we just sneak in a week. Nineteen can we. Can we just get this game in. No we cannot sneak there saying in a memo that went out. League-wide is that if a covert outbreak takes place it's particularly evolving unvaccinated players. That team a will lead to a forfeit even more so which makes us even bigger deal. Is that if a game gets forfeited. Then neither team gets paid that week. And see that's to me that's too much and of course you didn't go on but you you were going to go on to say the team has to pay for the loss of money from ramey and all that stuff right so they have to foot the bill for the stadium fees and everything. I think that is going too far. As far as not paying the players they still put in the work. all week. i get it. you're the league. You wanted him to play on sunday but they still should get their pay. I and but overall.

"Blake. Come on now. Well calvin really is going to be running a lie out of downfield rouch and making a lot of big plays in having a lot of hundred games this year. He's just an absolutely smashing. Yeah i feel a little bit but you do. Have the andre hopkins eleventh over all talk to the people a little bit about deandre hopkins and then the only thing that i wanna say before we get out of here is all the packers stuff again. I would one hundred percent have aaron jones and davante adams if we knew aaron rodgers coming back in the first round. No doubt about it. Yeah so Deandre hopkins very similar situation as stefan digs. No no offseason. No training camp. They just jumped right in and week. One it's hit you know and it's big time and i think you have one hundred fifty one yards. I think in that first game and i was way too low on last year. We're not making that same mistake again. I don't think that i'm too high on him. Like based on over correction or anything like that. I think that he belongs at the end of the first round. Aj green isn't scaring me. I hope they get more out of christian kirk but he may not be the player that kinda thought he was coming out of college. Deandre hopkins absolute baller starting to get toward the end of his prime In terms of age. But he's still below thirty. And i think he's got another massive season coming where you can absolutely compete for the league lead in catches and receiving yards and receiving touchdowns only played here that i had as a candidate for my first round with joe mixing And you can get joe mixing still you know Early middle of round two but if they choose their word about expanding. Joe mixes role to all three downs. And this bengals. Offense is as good as i think it's going to be joe mixed in is going to look like a steal in the second round and i know people don't wanna hear it. They've been burned by joe mixing before etc etc. And i know. Joe mixon hasn't exactly done it but man the situation sets up really really well for him. I'm curious what brandon thinks about his offensive line. We'll have him on the pot. Aim have his article up soon in the draft. It's that's the only other borderline guy for me. Any other borderline guys. You want to mention in the first round before we get out of here. Yeah i'll give you a little hint will preview of what brandon thorns. Say about the bengals offense. It ain't going to be good but no i. I totally get like on paper betting on this bengals offense. I mean they're gonna run a lot of plays that they should throw the ball lot in all signs really all signs point toward joe mixing filling a true workhorse belco role and he's been the league for a while now really you know. He hasn't done he's done it in spurts. He had won a couple of years ago in the in the back out the final eight games. He led the nfl in In rushing yards and he showed he could handle a lot of you know a huge huge workloads for a full half of a season. But he just hasn't done it for a full season but yeah A lotta a lotta first. Round caliber picks i think in the second round. It's a really strong. Like top twenty five this year. I think and then i don't think it's his deep just the entire fantasy field but i really like the like the top twenty five players. Yeah i'll say the last thing. I never mentioned the packers stuff a lot. Evan i think thinks a cord the chef during laser in these guys that it's likelier than not or you know. They suspect that rogers willing to sit out the year. I think it's likelier that aaron rodgers comes senses for thirty million dollars age thirty seven and maybe one last chance to get super going. He shows up for week one. I like taking air jones and being ahead of the market on them. And guys like that age dylan and devante and amari rogers and all these guys. I like taking them right now. "I think we make too much planes and voice opinion. But I'm not saying he's wrong again. I think it's a different day in time, and it'll be interesting to see other Organization handles it. Yeah, Different day and time. And when I held the Packers hostage for years by wanting to retire, why I made them trade me because they weren't gonna play me and they were going to start Aaron Rodgers and then I made then they had to retire before I got to the Vikings, which is a team. I really wanted to go to breath far actually said, you know, way. Make too much money to have an opinion on this. He forgets the diva He wasp when he played That's like me, saying one of the funniest aches to me. That's like me saying, Hey, guys, don't don't eat chocolates, chocolates. No good. I mean real challenge, but it's not good. Dark chocolate is terrible. Don't eat ice cream. Don't eat brownies cake. No, none of that. It's really, really bad. I'd never Oh my God, I can't believe he said that with a straight face. They pay you a lot of money, So shut up. Now. Look you want you want to go into the We've done the nuanced argument. You want to talk about that You just sign this deal and that you know you were all in on the organization in September. Okay, we we could have that conversation about what changed obviously was a rough season. DeAndre Hopkins was long gone. We've talked about that. You know, you have the right to change your mind. I to a degree. Yes, but the question becomes well What? What happened here? Right, so I can I can understand his hate, You know, you've you've committed to this organization. Part of it, right. The last lively goes Well, you know, I kind of understand. It was like, Well, yeah, that's that's the point. The rest of your stuff was nonsense. Because your own history you did anything but That's how many What was that? He's four years in a row. It was I don't know. I don't think I want to play anymore, Shawn, Watch. This is too. Dude, you have to stop. Oh, my goodness. Twitter it How about a Fresca? Mike? It's swollen. Don't you think you hear everything? And then Brett Farve has hot takes thanks for showing it. Thanks for playing that. I needed that laugh. I just burn calories. That was fantastic. Speaking of quarterbacks coming up next, we have the Tom Brady game. Well, look,.

"Williams said. I'll be hanging with you all night long. Let's talk about someone who might not be hanging out for much longer. At least maybe not in Houston. Texans quarterback this John Watson. John Watson has officially requested a trade the organizational disaster that that is. I mean, it's criminal. Unless Cal McNair of the owner now can hot fire Cal McNair, Not much is going to change. It's time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk wireless. That's right. Watson requested a trade from the organization. He's called home since 2017 things have been interesting in Houston if you'll remember March of 2020. The Texans traded the top receiver in the league, DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals Eagles wide out to Sean Jackson with a peek behind the curtain on that situation. You know certain players that you know you definitely don't trade and he goes down as one of the players. You don't trick the Roissy scene. You see what type of player he is. Now, you gotta you gotta you gotta can on a dude like that, man. You got a game plan. You know, your whole defense changed around the player. Would have the statue like, you know, DeAndre Hopkins and to have a quarterback that to be, you know. Mobile and, you know, make throws down the field. I mean, you know, they definitely Jill. Good together, so I'm sure that that definitely different for that hit different Also this in October, they fired head coach and GM Bill O'Brien. Then they hired a new GM and Nick a stereo and January On Wednesday of this week, the Texans announced that their new head coach is David Cully. According to sources. The higher has not and will not change Watson's mind. He still wants out. He has not spoken to the stereo or Texans executive Jack Easterby. Here's former Texas GM Rick Smith on what he would do that would be on an airplane. I wouldn't be in the building. At this point, I'd be on an airplane. Now that we have gotten our head coach in place.

"Far. Jim Nance joined us, he said of Tom Brady wins the Super Bowl coming up two Sundays from now. It's the greatest achievement and his career. Wow. We also were joined. Are we also talked about, I should say would be cool if we were joined Baron Rogers. We're not pat back up. So we did talk about the Aaron Rodgers situation, but that was so bizarre to me. And the chef, the reporting and kind of just look it in confidence and you go. Man. You see what's going on with the Texans. And then the Packers from Adam Schefter Olya, the coaching staff wanted back, but not everyone in the organization isn't lover is convinced about Aaron Rodgers moving forward. It's clearly Brian Gouda kun's onto it has to be the general manager's same guy that drafted Jordan Love. And it just annoys me when there's an obvious thing. And then the opposite thing happens. Now we are scheduled next week. And I hope that this happens Who knows, though With all these schedules, we'll have Jerry Rice on next week that we know for sure we have Deon Sanders scheduled to join us next week is well, we got a lot of big guests. For the Super Bowl. We're efforting Joe Montana when, uh and we're actually scheduled I'm hoping it happens. You never know, though with these interviews We are. We are efforting when we were scheduled to have Jordan love next week. Now I think that would be If he's willing to talk and just doesn't give us the typical answers. I think that has potential to be a very good conversation. So anyway, pretty much if you missed the show. So far, we have Jim Dancer. We also talked about the Anna Roger situation. Why? I don't get why The Packers would even contemplate trading him and personally, I think he's going to be the starting quarterback for the Packers. Come 2021 Just last segment. We talked about Big Ben. The Steelers want big Bend back. Big Ben wants to come back. They just needed to restructure that contract that it seems like Big Ben is willing to comply. The biggest topic of conversation so far tonight. Shawn Watson. And I hate to say this. I know we're on in Houston right now, because I feel bad for the Texans fans. I told you, So I told you this wasn't gonna end. In a good way, and I didn't just say this. And we gate. I didn't just say this. In week nine or week 10 the minute DeAndre Hopkins was traded. I lost all confidence in that organization. That organization went from a team that was up 24 to nothing against the Chiefs and the NFC championship game. Or the anti divisional round and 24 nothin. Who the league got blown out of the game. Since then, the Houston Texans have been a dumpster fire. I'm not saying it in a polite way. That's saying it in a nice way. But the minute they traded DeAndre Hopkins Houston Texans showed me that they don't actually care, not the players. But the management the coaching staff. Executives, but they're not serious about winning. And maybe it's not fair to say all the coaching staff, but I lump that in with Bill O'Brien and I know he's no longer there. They hired David Kolia. They're gonna bring it bring it and David Collie. Bill O'Brien was the general manager in the head coach. That's why I said coaches. The minute they traded DeAndre Hopkins. They thought they were smarter than everybody else. What do they get back for the Andrea Hopkins? A bag of balls until I got back for him. When you trade a player like DeAndre Hopkins, and the whole world is pointing a finger at you and laughing. Oh, like one of the Texans doing and everyone's belly aching over your incompetence. How do you think the players feel locked room? The players have probably sitting back and they're mystified and they're going. What the heck is going on out here? What do we do in Then you get off to a cold start. Then this thing ended up turning into a disaster of full on disaster. Here could be the biggest blunder here by the taxes. Because I told you the minute they traded DeAndre Hopkins. Bill O'Brien just signed up to get fired. The Texans. Yeah, they got to Shawn Watson to Sean Watson's good quarterback. Maybe they still make the playoffs baby. They still win the division. He will eventually don't want out. Cause it's never gonna be the same synergy whoever they bring in that he had with DeAndre Hopkins. Well at the time going into last season, was considered the best wide receiver in the NFL. Anyway, though. Here's the biggest blunder by the Texans. All the DeAndre Hopkins crap, who was a good soldier to Shawn Watson. Have to show monster that a few tweets here they're a few ambiguous tweets. But to Sharm Watson, when ever given an opportunity where he would have deservedly so and nobody giving him any problems to just blast the organization. Shot. Watson was classy. Shawn Watson was guess what himself. Shawn Watson did the right thing to Shawn Watson said. Yeah. I'm not gonna chastise the organization. I still want to be here now. I got an extension to that helps all that. Hey, we're sorry. We'll give you a big fat contract extension. 150 $160 million. Whatever was boom. Give you a lot of dinero. And then throughout this season, even through all the losing even even through battling his took us off. We've seen to Shawn Watson say all the right things. And I even bring you back and I mentioned this earlier mentioned again. When I first saw that video I was walking around the city was I actually got a bagel? I got a great bagel. This was right after the season, And did I want to this place Leo's in New York City. They have a pastrami on rye bagel, so it's a bagel. But as.

"And that was the same day that the Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins for a second round pick and David Johnson. The Bills later on that day, traded a whole lot more than that. For Stefan Diggs, who up until this year and not accomplished nearly as much. Has DeAndre Hopkins had what was the talk that day when they traded all those picks for Stefan Diggs? Well, I mean, I think the talk was Bill O'Brien is a dope. I mean, what are you doing, You know, trading DeAndre Hopkins for a second round pick and David Johnson. I mean, I don't even think that that's a fair comparison. Just because You know that trade was so one sided in favor of the Cardinals that it's Repair. Now to your point. I think there were some people that said Boy bills paid a pity. Pretty big price for a receiver. Who you know, seven days was obviously town. Anybody that watched him in Minnesota knew that, but You know, there was some questions about what kind of a teammate he would be coming to Buffalo. You know, he had some issues. It seemed like with his quarterback there in Minnesota and in terms of the off the field. You know, Question marks. You know, that has not been an issue at all. Now, Of course, when you're targeted 160 times in a game or in a season, you're gonna be happy as a receiver, right? We haven't seen Stefan Diggs go through any real adversity in his first year with the bells, but I think from a talent perspective, what Stefan Diggs brings. He's an excellent route runner and he can make contested catches and going back to what I said earlier about Josh Allen, who is not gonna be Drew Brees in terms of his accuracy, having a court Ah, wide receiver. You can make some tough catches to help your quarterback at times just made it a perfect fit. So, yeah, I think the initial reaction to the trade was boy. The bills, you know, paid a pretty steep price here, but This is one of the true win win trades in NFL history. I mean, you can look at this in both sides could make a very strong case that they won their their end of the deal. Yeah, I know the and you make great points, and that's kind of the reason I was asking like we wear. Our reaction was pointed Bill O'Brien even call the bills to see if they wanted DeAndre Hopkins. He just gave up first, the fifth of six and a seven for step on digs. Um, J J Scarcity of the Buffalo News. Joining me. Um, J does. Does Josh Alan get a new contract after this season is over. Yeah. I mean, I think so. I don't. I don't really know why you'd wait. If you were the bills. I mean, you know, I think he's proven, you know, pretty much everything you want to see. Now, Obviously, there's a lot left to accomplish here if they were able to beat the Chiefs that they are able to get into the Super Bowl, that kind of thing. Maybe takes any sort of question out of No, I think that they're gonna do everything that they can to try to re sign him, and I will say that you know everything that I know about Josh on everything he's said public. We have every reason to believe that he wants to be a Buffalo bill for the rest of his career. It's been a perfect fit for her for him in terms of community in terms of, you know, just what he is meant. To the team. He seems to genuinely enjoy being in buffalo. I don't see anything really standing in the way of both sides wanting T O get an extension. Don't assume is this offseason? Jay, Are you surprised that it's Leslie Frazier, who's the coordinator That might be the finalist for an opening as a head coach and not Brian Day Ball? But I mean, you know, that's just the way that the league has trended toe offense. And certainly when you look at the impact of Brian Day Ball has had on Joshy Ellen in the relationship that they've formed. Theo improvements that he's made. You know, you would want that trait in a head coach in most places. Now, if Houston is a little bit different, you know they've got a proven franchise quarterback. Now we'll see for how long With the show in Lawson, but it's not like somebody where you had to come in and develop necessarily. That's why I thought Brian Day Ball was going to be. Ah, perfect fit for the Chargers. Quite frankly, I'm still surprised you didn't get that job with Justin Herbert, but you know, in terms of Leslie Frazier much different Sort of candidate. Obviously a guy who's got head coaching experience before a steady presence for the bills, never going to see him get too high or too low. Professional in every sense, and he has done a very, very good job with the bills. But when you consider that ultimately this is Sean McDermott, defense of former defensive coordinator I do think that you know if you were going to name one at the end of the regular season, the coordinator that the bills would be more likely to lose. I think most people would have said Dave Ball. Yeah, I would imagine people of their probably breathing a big sigh of relief that day balls coming back next year, right? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you know, the longer you can keep a quarterback and a, uh and his offensive coordinator together in the same system. I think it's it's beneficial for Joshy Ellen so that that is a big No. I would fully expect that if the bills were able to have similar success that we're having the same conversation about Brian Day Ball being Ah, potential head coaching candidate again next year, But yes, to have him coming back is is a big thing for Josh Alan and for the Bills. Jace Kirsty Buffalo News. Join me J before I get you out of here is you touched on earlier? The bills have probably been the more impressive of these two teams over the second half of the season there A Hail Mary away from sitting on a really, really long winning streak. Right now. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have won a bunch of games, but they've been a lot closer. What's the key today for the bills to come out of there with a victory? Well, I mean, you go into a game against Patrick moms. You think you're gonna have to score. I think the bills we're gonna have to get close to their Steven. He's an average in points. I think you know if they could get the 30 I think that really like their chances, You know, maybe something like 27. Might might get it done. But you know, offensively they gotta finish. Dr. Jones. I know that sounds rather obvious, but you know, you can't go into a game thinking 17 or 2021 points is going to get it done..

As relates to the Texans. A bad scene. I want you to hear something interesting from Kyrie Irving. And I'll tell you about a good NFL team. If you live in a city with a bad one, this one this team should at least give you some type of hope. James is calling up from Houston. James you on CBS Sports Radio, the J. R sport brief show. What's up? J R. What's going on with you? Hey, I'm a loyal as Texans fan. I've been a fan of this team forever with Matt job Employer all these trash quartermaster. His 20 is 20 years. 20 years is a long time Is it? You have pretty much okay. I give you credit this BS and we have a quarterback named Sean walks and I love that son of a gun so much. He is my brother from another mother. I do not want to see him go. I'm tired of the national media Disrespecting US Texans stands We traded DeAndre Hopkins for ketchup packets, but, you know, I'm still a fan of this team. If we train our heart and soul. I don't know how the hell I'm gonna wake up in the morning attacks fan. Well, let me ask you a question, James. And I'm sorry you feel so bad or sad about this. Why are you mad at anybody, except for the actual Texans organization? What one of the fans have to do with anything. What do you mean? Like you? You're saying that you're saying that the media Is disrespecting the Texans fans that what you said. Feels like you. I mean well, so but have you how Well, what Max Kellerman says that the shot Watson from want out. Because because of the team, and I don't know what Max Kellerman said. Because I don't I don't I don't listen to what Max Kellerman says. And I'm selling you that I also think that that he should leave. But what I will tell you is Why you mad at at Max Kellerman. Why would you be upset at me? Why wouldn't you be mad at the folks who are making the decisions that actually happens to be the organization? Because their brain is the sign of a being. They don't know anything so well. So it wouldn't that. Yeah, but what that would give you reason to be upset at them and not someone like me. Well, I am upset with him, but I can't control them. And I'm more, um, are upset with like people. Not not you because I've nothing against you. You're like I'm just tired of hearing to Sean should leave. You know, because I don't want to see him go. Looking franchise has not been the same since we blew that huge lied to the chief. Yeah, we know Bill O'Brien. Yes s O James. Hold on a second. And I don't did you So by the way, I'm not sure you heard. You know, there was to be a rally outside of NRG Stadium, right? You heard about that? Yes, I heard about an end to Shawn Watson basically said, I'm hearing there's a march planned on my behalf in Houston today. I'm humbled. I ask whoever's organizing it to cancel for the sake of public Safety Cove. It is spreading no need for fans to unnecessarily exposed themselves. So James, I'll tell you this. Ah, and anybody else can only respond to the people that you said have beans for brains, So don't don't don't don't hate the messenger. "On Watson and says, You guys have a head coaching opening. You're a damn good quarterback. You're on a team that maybe one day Could be in our way. I'm gonna tell you who you should hire. I think so Highly of Erik the enemy. I want Eric the enemy to get a head coaching job. You should recommend to your owner to Calumet there. Higher Eric the enemy and probably explained that this is why you love him. ABC x Y Z all the above This guy's going to be a great head coach. So You look back at it. The Texans not only didn't even request permission to speak to the enemy There are six head coaching jobs open in the league. The Houston Texans are the only team to not request permission to speak to Eric, be enemy. Now. Adam Schefter. Watson offered his input on the potential general manager candidates, but the Texans neither considered nor consulted with those endorsed by their franchise quarterback. League sources told ESPN. Now you could question What is the quarterback? What is the player going to be able to provide and picking the next GM? Like a coach is different than a general manager. Except I do believe that player view is valuable and the only one that Texans have to blame here. Are themselves the only one Cal McNair has the blame is himself. Does this guy allowed this situation to get so ugly? Were supposedly to Shawn Watson found out that DeAndre Hopkins was getting traded last year via social media. They go from a team that was a half away from going to the conference championship Game two a year later as you fast forward to a team That should be picking third overall in the draft, but they don't have the draft because they traded it to Miami in the wire Me Tunsil trade. Now you had before the year started the NFL season of 2020. Watson signs that contract extension. The fact that we're sitting here today. Could actually seriously contemplate. That to Sean wants and wants out and really demand to trade. Shows you how dumb this organization is and shows you how incompetent he worked today and competent Mr Cale McNair is Like Bill O'Brien make a dumb trade for DeAndre Hopkins and trade him away. Got nothing back. You're allowed. Jack Easterby to survive. You offer the helping hand. You too. Shawn Watson. We want you involved in the process. You don't listen to him for he hires a GM. His main candidate for who you want is a coach Eric the enemy. You don't even interview him. I'm sorry. It's impossible. TOC not laugh. And point the finger and laugh at Cal McNair. This guy doesn't have a damn clue what to do. And in essence right now, He is trusting Jack Easterby, who was a character coach for the Patriots. Over his own quarterback. Last time I checked. Who the heck is Jack Easterby? But that's the Houston Texans. That's why the Texans are nowhere close to winning. That's why the Texans The laughing stock right now of the sports world. This is a joke. This is a disgrace. It makes me sick. It makes me sick. And you know what I think happened here. You tell me trace over another theory by you. Traces my guy that I just run theories by You know, dealer? No deal where they have the banker. You're the banker. You tell me. Well, okay. If it's a good deal or bad deal you you will. Basically maybe it's the other way around. Check that You're the one on dealer. No deal. You're the one that's pressing the red buzzer. Closing the box shut on the buzzer. One of the showgirls. No, No, no, no, no, You're you're playing the game. Oh, sorry. I'm playing the famous physically. Yeah, I am actually the banker and I'm telling you what I think the deal is and then you confirm if it's a deal or no deal, okay? So I'm going to assume here. This is what I think the dealio is. That because of how much of Ah romantic friendship, I guess. Maybe at this point, Jack used to be as the Catholic there because it's gotten too sickening. How this guy keeps on getting his way makes no sense. Now I think it's early. Just I actually I don't know if this is early to say. When someone's in an organization that doesn't make sense. And they keep on finding a way to weasel their way around that organization and get in their way. I usually throughout the line. All right. This guy must have pictures, embarrassing pictures of the owner. I think Jack Easterby has embarrassing pictures of Cal McNair so That's what I think happened. Helmick there thought he was doing the right thing. Cal McNair said to himself. Wow, our franchise quarterback is not happy. So I'm going to give him because I'm a new owner. I don't really know what I'm doing. Listening to too many people. I'm gonna tell him GM search head coaching search You to be a part of the process. Gonna be involved in the process. You're gonna be here and have a say. And your voice. Your opinions are gonna matter Now. We may not all agree We're gonna take your opinions under consideration. Then Jack Easterby..

Patriots at Dolphins: Alain Poupart breaks down Miami's running game

"The Houston was really the only team I would say that actually through on the Patriots effectively this year and DeShaun Watson besides Russell Wilson all the way back in week two thousand. I am curious, you know, the Dolphins do they have a running game. Do you think that they can do that with because I don't see it, but I don't want to I don't want to be biased over here. Either way. I mean, there are 30 second in the league in rushing yards per attempt. They were missing their top three rushing leaders last Sunday against the Chiefs. What's a be perfectly blunt? None of them are impact players Matt breida came off the covid-19. Wednesday obviously he'll be back. When he hasn't made much of an impact after coming over from the 49ers in the in the trade Myles Gaskin is on the Cove in list and he's a nice story as a second-year seventh-round pick who laughs basically got a cup of coffee in terms of playing time this year and he basically became their feature back and he's got some ability. But in a in an Ideal World Cup gasket is your backup is now your future back in this is what the Dolphins are dealing with our offensive line. Also a good story much better than was last year. They're starting three rookies with Austin Jackson am handsome in kinloch. but when you start three rookies pretty much ninety-nine percent of the time you're going to go through some growing pains and their offensive line while again exponentially better than what last year is still not great. Let's say it's worked in like but they're not a whole lot of big old being open in the running game and you don't have running backs off will make a lot of things happen on their own. So there's a reason again there there are thirty-second in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt and complicating matters. This week is they have injury issue is that wide receiver position where they also have a lot of players but not a whole lot of impact players. So you mentioned might get sick you earlier I believe and now he's got a shoulder injury where we can't get any Clarity from Ryan Flores as to his status for this week. It's all we'll see is working on all that. But if you saw the injury really really hard to Envision him playing cards Devante Port Parker pulled a hamstring or had a hamstring injury against the Chiefs you came out in the first app did not return. He practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, so hopefully play it but then if he plays this carrying a hamstring injury. And then so who else do you have left after that now you're looking at your team Grant who is more of a return specialist and and then their shuttle pass receiver gadget Play type of player on offense. He's also got a hamstring injury that knocked him out of Chiefs game. And then the rest of the wide receiver Corps is rookie limbo Junior who played multiple positions at Kentucky. You have a Mack Hollins who want to sign as a special-teams standout, which he is. He's very going to special teams but more so than the receiver and then you have one of the guys being talked up being able to make a major contribution as Isaiah Ford who you may remember from his three weeks with the Patriots after the acquired immune to trade in his office. I knew he was he didn't play it down for the Patriots. I knew how long is not going to last year when he got up here and he said it is freezing. I need a winter coat, you know, what am I going to do? And I just said look, I'm sure he's a fine football player. I'm sure he could make an impact on the team that needs wide receiver help but this guy does not seem like he wants to be in New England right now. Well, no, but he plays at Virginia Tech. So I'm so he's not like dead. He's from Jacksonville plant in Virginia tag, so it's not like he's not he's never been the call before and the thing about Isaiah Ford and then it was often friends are thinking. Well, Isaiah Ford is going to come and rescue the the passing game and that like life. He's a really really really nice good. And he might be in the league for ten years because he's got a great attitude. He works hard doesn't see anything. He's not an impact player. And right now this is what they have their wide receiver Corps. If she doesn't play they have nobody who's going to really scare the Patriots defense and if you you throughout the city also doesn't play. I mean who makes things happen on this office on Sunday? "Dominic. It is eleven twenty seven pm eastern. And i m almost done tattooing. Cuyler murray's name using a ballpoint pen across my chest. Go forward i'm with you. Want me wait why you finish your being supportive in a way. That bill barnwell. Why usually talk do right now. Isn't i think like he would be reasonable and discourage me from doing this. But you're a far less responsible character. It feels. I'm here for a good time now longtime just today's episode so i'm fumbled fox ready for sublime tattoo it. Let's have some drinks. Whatever you wanna do. Pablo dominique. Foxworth is a writer and commentator for. Espn he played seven seasons in the nfl at defensive back and he's espn dailies. fun uncle. Well what i wanted to do before we get hammered together is talk to you about this play. That is inspired all of this ink to be spill both across my chest and across the country. Because i think it's the play of the year. I think what we saw in this bills. Cardinals game is the play of the year. And it's worth noting for posterity that the bills had just one said gave right before it happened. Josh allen had thrown. I think the pass of his life to step on digs putting buffalo thirty to twenty six with just thirty nine seconds left. The snap man looks to his left. Choirs left side. Then go to the point steph. Both touchdowns catches a touchdown pass from josh allen. What cuyler murray then does rolling left. Let's hit pause as his bomb is launched from midfield in his dangling in the air. Because you are a cornerback in your blood in your soul. How do you even approach defending this sort of a play as db well. They did it wrong. Obviously they were all going for the ball which you don't necessarily want to do in that situation and trae white one of the best corn illegal that he was trying to catch it which any coastal tell you. Bet it down. So everyone's out there trying to pad their stats in the thing that i would normally do. Not ideology happens as a particularly big receivers but tall receivers will jump well over the arms can't catch a bomb like that with one hand if you do best one for you. So that's what they did wrong going for the ball in also trying to patch stats with an interception i. I was particularly happy towards the end of that game because on get up last week. I said that stefan digs is unstoppable. Man coverage way. You shut down passing offenses in this league. We all know it. It's tight man coverage you can't do that. Against stefan digs. He has been created the most explosive plays of any receiver in this league against man coverage. So he caught the game winning touchdown man coverage also said in that same segment the andrea hopkins is the best contested cats receiver in the league. He's one of the top receivers in a league in winning contestant catches so he can get open but the scary part about him is. It doesn't matter you put it anywhere his entity even if you're close to them you're buying he might bring it down and embarrassed boom so win for me. How about that back to back dubbed up.

"Today's guest was inspired by his dad to change the world and have a lasting positive impact on health and the environment. I'm talking about Ethan Brown. The founder and CEO of beyond meet a disruptive and innovative plant based Meat Company and. I know you've seen her to them. Because they are ubiquitous. These days interview was recorded pre covert nineteen so while we don't specifically discuss it. This episode is very timely. Since as you've I'm sure read. One of the areas most affected by this horrific disease. Is Our food supply chain specifically the animal food supply chain. The conditions are deplorable for both the animals and humans at these meat processing plants and the health of both is compromised. Daily Ethan discusses in detail. I was company is improving the efficiency the safety the health and the environmental impact of his beyond meat. Production and the benefits are huge. We know that the average consumer even those who eat animal meat are aware and very concerned about these health and social issues. As Ethan says I believe there is a new dawn for American agriculture. And this conversation is our awakening our in fact just last week. Jim Cramer the host of mad money on. Cnbc said that beyond meat is a small company but so Amazon so was facebook and so was Google and then he goes on to say and I quote. It's all going beyond meets way and what is beyond me doing. They're cutting prices. I think the pandemic is saying start eating plant based Kramer continues to go on to say that the rising demand for plant based protein will not be a passing fad and that. There's no hobby here. The Hobby is going to end up being meet man. Jim You are talking our language. I think the pandemic is saying start eating plant based eating meats going to become a hobby love it? Here's to having the heart of a hero and not being afraid to challenge the status quo in fact instead of being divisive it's time we collectively come together and work to solve these problems on behalf of the animals the longevity of our planet and our own health it is my mission and it's the mission and driving force for my friend. Ethan Brown all right here. We are season two of the the plant. Strong podcast I am here with Ethan Brown. The CEO of beyond me. And I want you to know and I'm at World Headquarters for beyond me. Where exactly are we? So we're going to California el Segundo AB- like what two miles from the airport? Exactly yeah I mean it was the most. This is the easiest drive ever made from the airport and season to just so you know the whole theme is heart of a hero and we're really trying to identify People that are changing the game and and that's who were having an inviting on season two of the Pike Aston. You probably more than just about anybody. I know are changing the game in a multitude of ways and I and I wanna get into that so you are truly a game changer. Speaking of the game game changers. Have you seen the movie I have in before I even get into that? I mean I just WanNa share on August the impact you and your family out on my own life and just how much a fan of yours and incredibly sincere. I've watched forks over knives yet more times than I can count Shared it with more people than I can count And you don't want. We got a chance to connect few years back. It was a terrific thing for me. No I've been a big fan of yours for a long time to be here being everybody. You surreal well. I I'm flattered. Thank you and so in the game changers. You saw it. Did you like it. I love that movie. Yes in fact. You're so intimately viable that but I'm having to stop myself showing you a clip. Because it's almost every time someone comes to my office injured in this subject. But of course that would be lost on you because you set the record for most I think most downloaded most downloads of a documentary ever and they broke it in a little over a week. It's remarkable and it resonates so strongly with me for so many of the reasons that it also resonates with you of course But even as somebody's building business it was really important for me to see this You know growing up we were very much exposed to the got milk campaign. I mean that was something that was a big part of culture and and maybe less so today but you know the use of athletes to promote a particular type of animal-based protein with something the California Milk Board. Did you know very well And and that was something that because of my own background and interest in the milk industry. My family was doing I paid a lot of to the got milk campaign with came time for me to start my own company I. She hired the original sponsor of that campaign. I'm Jeff Manning on the California Milk Board. He had left since you grew up on a dairy farm. I grew up in the city. Okay on my dad's a professor and we He he didn't like being in the city and so he wanted to have a place to recreate because he grew up in the country and so got a farm Very early on in my childhood and he's kind of entrepreneurial so ultimately we get wholesale cattle there Dairy but but he rate so To went back and found the person who who wrote the original mandate for the got milk campaign of someone named Jeff Manning on the California Milk Board and that led to that campaign with milk mustache. And you know Bo Jackson Derek. Jeter et CETERA. And so I asked him to come work with me so we were together for a number of years creating the future protein campaign that we have here on the go beyond campaign and it's been been remarkable woman named Beth. Moskowitz has brought in more athletes. I can count Really remarkable career having or you know deandre Jordan Deandre Hopkins Chris Paul. They are now getting behind the idea. That a plant based Diet is the best performance and so game changers just nails that yeah and and there's a scene in there with the Tennessee. Titans football players and chastity. Morgan yes is cooking. I think some burgers on a grill. Those beyond Meat Burger. Yes we love the the Morgan's and all they're doing and I think that's just a great story and you're seeing that Clifford throughout the NFL particularly NBA. Where lightness quickness is so important you seeing so many. Nba Athletes turn to a plant based Diet for no other reason improve the performance. They also love the social aspect of it. They love the disruptive Challenger. Let's let's not do things the way we used to do. Let's bring something forward in this. World is a little better for for their kids. The challenge the status quo. Yeah there's a big big part of that
