"Gobert trade done. Now let's let things settle. Let's see where it all goes from here. And then we'll figure all of it out after that. So I think now we're kind of sitting in a spot where, all right, whatever comes next for them, you know, because they're Ross or it makes no sense right now. I mean, they've basically one center. Because you don't have a bookie is hurt. Right now. So it's they're only centers, walker Kessler, the first round pick, they got from the wolves and the Gobert train. They still have bugged donovic. They still have calmly, they now have Clarkson and Malik Beasley. That's weird. That's not really a great thing. You know, Patrick Beverly, does he make sense on? Because he stared to buy him out or trade him, I don't know. Yeah, so it's one of those things where I think there's probably more work to be done. But as to the prior topic, there's just not a lot of urgency right now because who are we competing against? What are we rushing to do? Let's just kind of let things play out a little bit because we're now we're seeing as teams are taking care of the last pieces of business. We saw the Knicks. Finally, complete the trade with the pistons to send berks and Noel, which finally will open up the salary cap space signed Jalen Bronson, but that's what we're starting to see now. And then it's 8 and Colin Sexton still sitting out there without a deal. Another highly regarded restrictive free agent. And then Durant Irving. So it's all just kind of let's wait and see. This is funny that this stuff is getting done because like we've been acting as though this stuff has done or weeks now, right? But technically it had officially gone through at this point, even though even if teams were operating as though it has and we were too. But in any event, we'll see what they ultimately do there. They don't really have a center that was what connected them to Deandre Eaton but doesn't appear that that's in the cards for the Utah. There were some reports from the jazz B riders that that's just not a thing and they're pretty tied in with the Utah group, but it gets changed some as Danny ainge has taken over and I feel like that's relationship has changed a little bit but yeah, I don't think we're necessarily going to see them be a player there.

"There's always a chance it could expand. You could have something where the sun's this guy no longer really fits with us. What do you think about this deal? And then you send this back to us or something like that. I've seen people's annual, what if it was, buddy healed involved in J crowd or in somebody we're headed off to the other way. I think Jay Crowder and Landry shamit, one of the players thrown out their not recommended with thrown out there. So we'll see. I was hoping that that ping was in. It's that time of year, where every time you hear something go off, you rush and you check it out, but that was not it. I was hoping. I was hoping. But yeah, so I'm not sure where this is going to go for now. I think we'll see in the next couple of days, wouldn't surprise me if it's made into a bigger deal where there's more pieces moving around or it could be very simple and straightforward. But I think Indiana now really makes the most sense as the landing spot for 8. Well, let's assume this goes down. Miles Turner for Deandre ayton, the next guy we need to talk about is Kevin Durant. What does this mean for the sons and their pursuit of Katie? I don't know that it really changes all that much to be quite honest. I think a lot of people went initially to oh, Deandre ayton, but there were just a million challenges with 8 and going to Brooklyn. One is, again, there's that base here compensation stuff. Duran obviously makes way more money. Then there's also the hard cap issues because that would trigger the hard cap and the nets are way, they can't even see it anymore. They're so far past the hard cap line. So I think we're in a position where that one never really felt all that realistic just from a salary cap mechanics side. And then we start again reports that nets weren't really that high on bringing in ayton, which I guess would maybe make sense and they did just resign Nick claxton to a nice contract about 17 million or so 20 million if he hits a couple bonuses. So I think what we're going to see there is if that deal still gets done, there are other avenues towards it. It might mean a three for one kind of trade or something like that. But that's part of it and we're hearing through the reports again, Brian windhorst. I believe this was on the hoop collective, but I think you did touch on it on a get up as well. We've heard woj mentioned it is in passing two or in reporting is that it's the market is just not necessarily what the nets thought it would be for KD. They thought there was going to be, hey, we're going to get this massive return and let's go. And I think there's just a lot of complications that I just don't know that some teams are really ready to meet in a Kevin Durant, Kevin Durant trade. I'm going to keep doing the Kevin Garnett. I don't know why. I just have a mental block on that. It's okay. It's okay. It's right up there with how many times we were calling. And now we can do it, but we kept saying this summer when we were dealing with COVID years and it wasn't really the off season in the summer and all that. Exactly, yeah. Yeah, it was like right. That's what it's going to be.

"Like something like that is interesting for me from a fit perspective. Yeah. That to me just feels like another floor razor and not necessarily a ceiling razor for me. You know what I mean? I don't know. You tell me that the hawks could be you could do Trae Young dejante Murray Deandre hunter John Collins, miles Turner. Yeah? That's a fun team. That's a really fun team. The top of the east is so good though now. You've got to kind of you got to make a pretty ballsy move. If you're Atlanta, or you just have to slow play it a little bit more, which I feel like they push the button too fast. Where maybe they could have had a better draft pick. In a year, last season other than, but I don't know. I don't love what they've done. Getting all these players that kind of raise their floor a little bit too fast. I think you've got to let it marinate a little bit. Deandre does fit the age timeline for Trey and Dijon, though. In Deandre hunter, which is yeah, he does. And they're all mature enough to wear their past the youth of it all. Which is interesting. Yeah, now, if I was Atlanta, I think I agree with you. I'd go for Deandre. But yeah, the fact that Deandre ayton has struggled this much to get like $30 million a year is kind of baffling to me, especially given the way that the money is supposed to rise in the next couple of years due to TV contracts. Yeah, I was going to say this Mac contract is not going to look like a max and three years. Yeah, it's a minimax. It's a 25% max. It's bizarre. Yes. These are the times that you get guys on max contracts. And you feel very good about it. Yes. Pay the money. Robert sarver for the love of God just pay the money. Like, I just don't own the team anymore. I mean, I'm sure I know that sun's fans have been beating that drum for however long. He's on the team, but you hate that to be the reason why teams don't make it. Or that players don't get signed. Because of ownership, like those are the worst situations in the MBA. Maybe it's not maybe James Jones just doesn't have faith in Deandre anymore. Or maybe like the core pieces have been like, we don't we don't love Deandre anymore. I don't know that. I'm speculating on potential other reasons. It could be based on. The Phoenix. Deandre ayton. Right. I'd almost rather be that situation where it's like personality wise, this isn't going to work. It's just too baffling to me. Otherwise. And Deandre, it seems like it's just like a dude that like hang out and play video games and like, seems like a pretty good dude. So I don't know. Maybe he's like ready to move into a bigger role. I get that, but you're going to be able to move into a bigger role. Because this Chris Paul team's almost I could not last forever. He's 37. "A little bit better next year, but man, if I'm Phoenix, I'm thinking, Chris Paul's 37. How much longer, I just can't, to me, I can't throw guys like miles Turner or whoever at this team trying to make it better today. When you have an option that keeps you good today and good in 5 years and you're giving that away so that you can maybe be slightly better for one year. Aiden could be a lot better than mouse Turner next year. He's 23. You know? By the time he's 25, it could be like, man, I can not believe that they traded mouse Turner for Deandre Aiden. He's averaging 2012 and two blocks a game. And he's just crushing it for the pacers. The other one that I've been trying to figure out is could this be a place for if Toronto decides they don't want to put Scotty Barnes in a Kevin Durant deal. Maybe Deandre makes sense there. Like trying to figure out like, okay, we sign in trade, Gary Trent, or something like that. We signed a trade, you know, precious and Gary Trent for Deandre ayton or something like that. And again, that makes Phoenix worse. I don't like that deal. I think it's a dumb ass idea. Yeah. But if they're just like set on fuck it, we don't want Deandre anymore for some reason. It's just such a wild situation. I feel like I have incomplete information on what's happening with Deandre and Phoenix. Look, I think that, look, I've talked to people and I still just don't, I think it comes down to ownership at the end of the day. That doesn't come like, don't. Robert sarver for a long time has been a very cheap owner. And I think that if this was a owner that was willing to consistently pay the tax and has proven that over a long period of time, they would have extended Deandre at the deadline. There are like at the extension deadline back in October. Coming off of a fucking finals run where he played better than Nikola Jokić for a full series. And that's the other thing about it with Deandre. That's the crazier thing. Outside of this Dallas series where he was not very good, right? And they got beat. Yeah, yeah. He's been playoff proven. Like he's been good. This is not a situation where you have to play him off. He's 20 player off the court. He's 23. 23 year olds have bad playoff series. Yeah. That happens every single year. And to act like, oh, okay, well, he's just cooked. No. He's still approaching his prime. He's still not even close to his prime. It's just, it's a weird time to trade a guy who was the number one pick who has performed well. Like you said, and helps you get to the NBA Finals. And I don't know. To me, they just act a little bit like, I don't know. They're not a team that has just been in the playoffs. You're in year out. And a franchise that's just had such stability. Sign Deandre, make him happy, stabilize your franchise for a little bit longer before you start making wild decisions. If Deandre ayton in a year is unhappy,

"Quarterbacks, always a major storyline in the draft, but the position lost some momentum this year, only one quarterback taken round one. Kenny Pickett taking 20th overall to the Steelers. Mel kiper junior, you like Pickett being the first QB off the board? Well, it's a pickle at the same grade. They were right there on the board at the same spot. Think about the Mark Whipple. Mark Whipple coach Ben Roethlisberger when he was a rookie playing right away and the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl Mark Whipple coach Kenny Pickett. They know more about Kenny picked than anybody playing a Heinz field. Sometimes you know somebody so well, you maybe don't take them because you find something wrong. They didn't do everything about Kenny Pickett and they loved it. They took them credit to the organization in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Kevin Colbert. They did all their due diligence. They know him better than everybody else. And now he's the quarterback. He goes across the hall, Desmond Ritter, the next port of act drafted all the way round three to the falcons, the other quarterback for Atlanta, Marcus Mariota. Here's Ritter on his excitement, going to Atlanta. They're going to get everything out of me. They're going to get a Super Bowl out of me. They're going to get someone who comes in and works hard every single day. First one in last one out. And you know, I'm not leaving their target. I get a Super Bowl. Mina, you like this pick by the falcons? I do. I love it. So here's the thing. Look at their whole team as a whole. You got Drake London, big bodied physical wide receiver next to Kyle Pitts, who's obviously incredibly strong and fast as well. And now you've got a quarterback who is aggressive inside the pocket, but can also do designed runs really well outside of it. If you squint hard enough, it's kind of the Tennessee Titans and you see the vision that Arthur Smith is building in Atlanta, finally. Oh, I love it. At Malik Willis had to drop them. We didn't see coming. He was drafted by Tennessee in the third round with the 86th overall pick. Dan, you predicted a quarterback to Tennessee, ends up being Willis. Yeah, and I think it makes a lot of sense for both him and the team. Number one, the team scheme is built upon quarterback movement. Getting guys outside of the pocket fully halfway and then the play action game. That's a maliko strength. I also love the fact that they do have Ryan Tannehill, and he doesn't have to get on the field right now and try to win and develop at the same time. And I love the fact that their head coach and general manager are securing their jobs. So they're not going to feel the pressure to run him on the field and prove to ownership. We've got this young player save our jobs. It's a really ideal fit for both player and organization. On to Carolina, many projected a quarterback to them with the 6th overall pick. They waited until number 94 to draft almost quarterback Matt corral Todd is this a good fit? Hello, it's a good value. I can tell you that getting corral in the third round. I don't know about the fit though, honestly. This year, Sam darnold, to me, will provide more than Matt coral could as a rookie. And then moving forward, I would much rather have traded up 9 spots and gotten ahead of where Malik Willis was coming off the board and take him then, where the Tennessee Titans took him 8 picks ahead of where they took Matt corral. To me, having a situation where Malik Willis could come in and be the guy in the future and you have one more year with Sam Sam darnold. That makes all the sense in the world to me. Carell, yeah, good value fit. I don't see him as a future star in the league though. Dan, the cameras over there. What are you doing over there? I'm swinging. Yeah, just my through. That's a good point. So you're right now. Oh my goodness. They might need you. All right, we got a lot more coming your way on NFL live. We're gonna get back to the breaking news the date. Total mess. Tyron Matthew heading home to New Orleans. We'll explain how that fit makes sense. Also the news around Deandre Hopkins being suspended for 6 games. Where do the Cardinals go from there? Adam Schefter rejoins with the latest. I'm bullish on the saints, ready? Okay. We're back on NFL live with breaking news today. Adam Schefter here, let's begin with the story around the saints agreement with tyron Matthew. Well, they've agreement in place right now, Laura, a three year $33 million contract that includes $18 million guaranteed the language is still being finalized. The deal is yet to be signed, but it is expected to be signed. And honey badger will come home to New Orleans where he was born and raised in healthy a leader on that defense in the secondary, the saints visited with him about a month ago, went into the draft, hoping to get some safety help, didn't get it there. Obviously started back up talks with tyron Mattel and they'll get that deal done here this week before much time three years, 33 million in the big news today. Of course, Deandre Hopkins suspended 6 games for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy. He is withdrawn his appeal. The suspension stands he will be allowed to go through the pre season, but he will be out for the first 6 games, which matches the amount of time that he missed at the end of last season with a knee injury earlier in the year. He had an ankle injury and over the course of the first 8 years of his career, he missed only one game. But last year, the absences started piling up and now they will continue into the 2022 season Hopkins will miss the first 6 games for violating the league's PED policy. Yeah, and Adam as we set up the top of the show, Kyler Murray, a very different quarterback with and without Hopkins, as many quarterbacks would be. Dan, as you hear what's going on with Deandre Hopkins, you think about the cardinal situation, the money that they may need to pay Kyler Murray, what comes to mind? Green Bay? The packers should call Arizona. That's what I would do. So I set this on last week when the Hollywood Brown trade went down on NFL live, I said, how are they going to pay Hollywood Brown? Who are they going to? Because of the contract or because of the trade, they're going to pay Kyler Murray and find a way to redo Deandre Hopkins. You're not going to be able to do all three. And if I'm Arizona, I'm sitting here going, I lose Deandre Hopkins for a third of the season. This is a way for me to find a way to get your money off of my books. And if I'm Green Bay, and I could take a draft pick and send it to Arizona, now is contract, I think, is like 18 million this year, so that's a big number, but I don't need you for the first 6 games. I'm in the playoffs because the conference is weak. I want that difference maker receiver. And now it becomes a completely different conversation about Green Bay. So if I was Green Bay, I would be calling Arizona to see what would it cost to get Deandre Hopkins, and if I was Arizona, I would be thinking long and hard about making that deal. Wow, I mean, I'll look at this from the Cardinals kind of point of view to do that sort of deal with one of the few contenders in the NFC would basically being or conceding rather that they don't think they're going to be a playoff team. This season, honestly. And I don't think given the head coach being on a hot seat, frankly. Obviously they were extended, but that doesn't really mean much these days. They'd be willing to do that. I thought I had about the cardinals, though, ever since Adam broke the news at the beginning of the show is when cliff Kingsbury came in, everyone expected.

"The strange. So skinny. But Thornton in the second round gives me vibes of Corey Coleman. Gives me vibes of Kendall Wright. Gives me vibes of Denzel mims or Terrell Tyrell Williams. Like these Baylor receivers that are supposed to be awesome receivers, they come into the NFL and then they're not great players. And for an offense that needed a difference maker at receiver, the receivers that went after Thor and I know the Patriots were looking for speed. The receivers that went after them were sky more Alec pierce. George pickens. Like, give me one of those cats and I feel way better because they're both speedy receivers and good players. You know more refined wide receivers. And then the selection of a quarterback when I had Mac Jones makes no sense to me. And then the selection of two tailbacks when I have Damien Harris and ramonda Stevens makes absolutely no sense to me. So I get it's the Patriots, but I'm confused by a lot of what they did. Yeah, Dan, I think the point is with them. There was the reaches. And I think when you look at the players are not bad. And while I was talking about the rankings, the number. Remember that number is the same as some guys that maybe could have been a little ahead. So if you're 68, you could have very easily been on a rankings. I thought it was just the grades are so similar, and some are exactly the same. 68, 69 could very easily be 59. 55 in that area. So when you look at the guys, I think the key is going to be obviously taekwon Thornton. Taekwon Thornton is a spindly receiver, but he's got incredible speed. I thought he showed toughness so he blocked well in some games that are at the work with Thornton and Jack Jones had ten career interceptions, go back to USC and what he did at Arizona state. And Marcus Jones had 9 returns. 6 kick off returns for touchdowns three punt returns. He intercepted 9 passes in his career, both at Troy and a Houston. So some of these guys have ability, all we're saying is they want a little earlier than they should have. And my attitude is, you talk about a C plus and a B minus. I had ten teams with B minus two with C++. C++. That's kind of splitting the hairs, I think. Yeah, you know, guys, I found this really interesting. The Patriots have drafted two players since 2014 that have been selected to a Pro Bowl in their career. That's tied for the fewest in the NFL. Those players are Mac Jones and Jake Bailey. So if you look at the dress, wow, look at this. Yeah, once upon her. And then one of course is the quarterback. And then there's Tom Brady, of course, before that. Anyway, coming up. We've got only one quarterback promising a Super Bowl right after being drafted and that was the falcon's third rounder. Desmond Ritter, even though he has Latvia expectations, here why Mina loves that pick. Plus, we are back to the breaking news of the day. Everything you need to know about tyron Matthew and the suspension of Deandre Hopkins, Adam Schefter rejoins us and of course these guys have all the analysis. We'll be right back here on NFL live. Two great examples of why we're all better off with an ally. To learn more about ally, visit ally dot com. Welcome to NFL live major breaking news to begin the show and for that we go to Adam Schefter. What do we need to know Adam? Deandre Hopkins is being suspended 6 games for violating the NFL's performance, enhancing drug policy. The Cardinals have known about the suspension. I believe it contributed to the fact that they traded for Marquise Brown on draft night, but Kyler Murray is losing his top weapon on the offensive side of the football. Now they did re sign and bring back AJ green and they do have rondale Moore and they did trade for Marquise Brown. But they're going to be without Deandre Hopkins now for the first 6 games of the season. That is official. That'll be announced at a later date, but Deandre Hopkins no longer will be a part of this football team for the first 6 games, Laura. Adam, a lot of times when you see these suspensions happen, people try to appeal them. Is that something that we're expecting here? Or is this just a solid 6 games and no appeal? Yeah, my understanding is that appeal has been withdrawn, not gonna happen. Essentially, the suspension is final and binding. And so the cardinals will be without Deandre Hopkins for the 6 games and it'll be another obstacle that this team has to overcome as it deals with kyla Murray's unhappiness as it tries to come back. Remember, Christian Kirk is in Jacksonville. Chase Edmonds is in Miami. This team has some weapons to try to make up for and now one of the biggest blows of all Deandre Hopkins has gone for 6 games. We'll be on this throughout the show as well as plenty other things and, you know, Dan, when you hear this news and you think about what we thought the Cardinals were as they added Hollywood Brown Adam mentions AJ green, we thought Deandre Hopkins is part of this offense. What's your reaction? They're not a playoff team without Deandre Hopkins. And they were with before this news. If you look at Kyler performance last year, our stat guy Brian picked this out. Okay, so QBR with Deandre Hopkins on the field 62, 72% completion percentage 8.8 yards per attempt. That's for Kala Murray last year with Deandre on the field. With hop off the field, QBR goes from 62 to 46. That is a massive drop off, 72% completion 65. That's a huge drop off, and then 8.8 yards per attempt to 6.6. That's almost two yards or over two yards per attempt less. That's a massive kind of performance indicator that Kyler is a significantly better player with Deandre Hopkins on the field, obviously than without. And for a third of the season for him to be gone, is a huge loss for this offense. They're not going to be reliant on AJ green. Rondale Moore is a nice piece, and Hollywood Brown now has to step into being the absolute number one pass catching option at wide receiver for Arizona. This is devastating for them. Yeah, I agree with Dan. I mean, this is a massive, massive loss. But I also do think it might indicate some changes in the Arizona offense schematically, this is an offense that under cliff Kingsbury has used more ten personnel than just about any other team in the league other than buffalo, meaning four wide receivers on the field. That's obviously going to change now. And I was thinking during the draft when they took Trey McBride, who I felt was the best tight end available. We might see more too tight end sets, which is actually when you look over the last couple of years, something they've been quietly very good and of course it got Zach Ertz as well. I think that also benefits Marquis Brown. You know, if they are more focused on the run and have that heavier personnel, you could open up some deep shot opportunities for him down the field, but don't get it wrong. Do you under Hopkins is everything to this team? And you know what else is a little bit alarming, Mina is this is a team that has the conversation of this off season is how do they finish better? They've gotten off to such good starts on your cliff Kingsbury. How do they finish better? Now knowing that their start is going to be impacted by this in the loss of Deandre Hopkins for 6 games, how do they start well enough to even make them the end of their season or the finish of their season matter? You know, I want to jump in here and get Adam back involved because Adam, I think the big story has been Kyler Murray and you mentioned that when you think about everything that they're dealing with now, even though the Cardinals have known about this, how do you think this affects Kyler? Well, look, the last we heard from Kyler Murray, he tweeted something about let's go cardinals here. So he seemed to be back on the same page as the organization, but together they face now some enormous challenges that nobody could have seen coming. This potentially being one of the biggest. Think about the Cardinals offense last year, once Deandre Hopkins got hurt and left the lineup with that injury in the second half of the year. They were not the same offense without him. They struggled down the stretch and they struggled down the stretch in large part because of the greatness of Deandre Hopkins and what he means to that offense. Now they will be without him for the first 6 games of this season and they will have to overcome at the start of this season with they couldn't overcome at the end of last season and figure out a way to get it done. Now that's why they go out and trade for Marquise Brown on draft night. That's why they go and re sign AJ green. That's why they hope that rondale Moore is that much further along in this offense in which they have grand plans for him, but the fact of the matter is they have struggled to overcome the absence of one of the top wide receivers in the game. And this is now the latest challenge that awaits Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. I'll give you the final word here. Yeah, I mean, I couldn't agree more. We saw, especially in the playoffs, how important Hopkins was really the focal point of this offense when he played. There's a reason why we all praise the trade, and I want to say, you know, Hopkins is a true receiver. He could succeed at any level, not just as a deep threat or on slants and comebacks, but really anything Kyler Murray needed. Now he loses that. You know, I like Hollywood Brown a lot, but he doesn't have that versatility, and I don't think anyone on this roster does. All right, again, we will find out the official NFL schedule. That release happens Thursday, may 12th to sort of identify when you would see Deandre Hopkins back in the mix with this Cardinals team. I think that's going to be really important as you look for them trying to weather that storm, trying to make something without him until they get him back. Some more breaking news is we finally have our.

"Can find me on Twitter at Trevor underscore lane or on Instagram at Trevor lane NBA. Got a lot to talk about today. We've got the Lakers actually making a move on the biome market. We've got fans Boeing at crypto dot com arena. I'm slowly getting used to saying that, but fans booing their Russell Westbrook reacting to it in a way that might make fans boo a little bit more. We'll talk a little bit about that. Plus we'll talk about the Lakers future and what that's going to look like moving forward as we prepare for. It's going to be a very eventful off season joining me today is veron government from Lakers nation dot com and the NBA front office show as well, which everyone should definitely go subscribe to. Run, welcome in. We've got a lot to talk about. It kind of cool that the Lakers actually made a move shortly before we sat down to record, which gives us even more to get into. Yeah, I don't know what this show would have looked like if they didn't make those two moves earlier today. I think it would have been I think it would have been pretty sad, just us for 30 minutes. Venting about how they can't beat the New Orleans pelicans at this point. So I don't know. This gives us something good to talk about. Is it something good? So they've waved Deandre Jordan and they are bringing it or they're going to bring in good. That's good. That's it. Good. They waved Deandre Jordan. Good. End of segment. Perfect. They waved Deandre Jordan. They're bringing in DJ Augustine. So we know that. There's also another move which I've yet to see it. So maybe you've seen it and I missed it. There are also bring in Wendy and Gabriel on a two way contract, but I've yet to see who they're waving in order to open up that two way contract, whether it's mason Jones, or a secret Dubois, but we'll get to that in a moment. Let's start with the bigger one here. DJ Augustine coming in, Deandre Jordan going out. What's your just surface level takeaway on that one? Surface level takeaway is I can't believe Deandre Jordan's going to get another shot in the NBA. I can't believe and for those who don't know the Philadelphia 76ers are, by the way, I laughed out loud when I saw this. Adrian will join tweeted the story link and the title was 76ers FrontRunner to land Deandre Jordan as if it's like as if it's a big free agent. The Brooklyn Nets landed Goran dragic. Deandre Jordan is going to stumble his way into the Philadelphia 76ers rotation. Like that, this is not a big moment for the sixers. I just can't believe he's getting another shot. It's nothing against him as a dude. He seems to be very well liked everywhere he goes. But I mean, he played yesterday. Or he played Sunday against the pelicans. He can't play anymore. He just can't play anymore. He threw a pass into the tenth row..

"Hello, everybody. Welcome and to the NBA front office show preseason as often running. We had a lot of games on the schedule last night. We're going to break down some of those. Plus, get into some news. The suns, maybe at odds with big man Deandre ayton, a lot to talk about there. Keith, let's just start with X, that's the big story of the day. The suns, not willing to give a max deal to Deandre ayden. That doesn't seem like a great look for the Phoenix. I mean, to me, this should just be automatic. I'm not overvaluing Deandre ayton here, am I? No, I mean, I'm with you on that one. I think he is worth a max in the context of guys like him, get max deals now. That's just the reality of it. If they won't do it somebody else is going to. And a lot of people have thrown my way, so then let somebody do it in restricted free agency. Well, the reality of that is, if you do that, you run the risk of them. It's probably going to be a three plus one. That you're going to match if you want to. And then you're going to lose them in at least the most after three seasons because now you've made them angry, you need to go out and take less money and just have a contract match. So I would get this done. I would not give him a player option. I would not give him the escalator language that would bump him up to 30%. But the 25% max over 5 years, get it done, then get Mikael bridges sign and now he's got your core of Booker eating and bridges locked in and you've got a Chris Paul for a couple more years. If they don't do this, this is a sign that they're not fully committed to trying to win a championship. You know, he shot, I can tell you from that first round series against the Lakers. He shot roughly a 175% from the field. It was incredible. He just did not did not miss anything. He played great. It was phenomenal. And you look at his peers, they're all getting deals right now. So of course he's gonna feel like he should also get one of those. Now you can say maybe he's not in the same tier as Luca, but look at what Michael Porter junior just got. A max and this is what gets me. I see people all the time on social media that say, oh, well, he's not really a max player. No, we're not understanding the concept of a max player well enough because we're forgetting that the guys who we see as max guys, your LeBron, Kevin Durant, the top top tier guys in the NBA. Giannis, those guys actually should be higher than a max. Just the CBA restricts them from getting more than that. So they're bargains on those contracts. They are not the only guys who get max. Max isn't given to a guy who's a generational talent. That's not what it takes in order to get to that level. So some people see max and they just assume, oh, that means the guys just this transcended superstar, but that's not really the way the max salaries work. No, not at all. It's not even close to the way it works. And that's the day like you said, that's the unfortunate thing here. The misunderstanding of, it's not a vacuum. You exist in a world where there's 29 other teams. And if one of them just one of them is willing to give him a max, then he should get the max. And let's be fully understanding. We're not talking the Luka Dončić probably young max that gets him over 200 million over the 5 years. We're talking a 172.5 million, that shake. It'll just Alexander go. I'm fine if you want to push it like he did with my competitor junior, like Denver did, and maybe do a non guarantee on the end or something like that or some language that, hey, you keep improving. But I go back to a lot of people were like, oh man, the hoxton, so good to lock up, couldn't compel it to a two year extension worth about 45 million or so. And it's not that they didn't. I think they did great to lock him up, but I'm sorry, ings younger. And giving him 6 million more, a year or so. That's fine. I have no issue with that at all. You know, cappella is now what he's 27. So he'll turn 28 right towards the end of sometime in the playoffs, maybe Alan will still be in that or not. And nobody's screaming a yelling about that, that when he's in his 30s, he should everybody's fine with him getting 22 and 23 million. Hayden just turned, I think 23. I think it is. So I just, I don't understand this if you're the songs to me if I was on fans. I would be absolutely livid. If they don't just mess around here because people are screaming, well, you know, you can't expect a team to spend that kind of money. Sure you can. Yeah. Do you want to win a championship? That's what you do. The Milwaukee Bucks just want to title what did they do? They've gone deeper into the luxury tax than they've ever gone. Before this year to try and defend it. Lakers clippers nets warriors. You don't need to get stupid like a couple of those teams and be 40 million over the luxury tax line. But tripping into the tax, that's how you win titles. You got to get it done. I mean, look, if you were to put every GM in the NBA in a room and you said, raise your hand if you would give Deandre a max. How many hands do you think go up? At least 20. Yeah. Right? And that's all that matters. That's all that matters. If he was on the market, most teams would indeed do that. Now, I will say though, he's not going anywhere. He's not going to this isn't going to get to the point where the sun say, you know what? We're just not going to give you this contract. Go ahead, hit restricted free agency, and then maybe we'll let you go. I don't think it's getting to that point. And that's maybe why this is even more confusing. You're going to regardless of what happens here. You're going to keep this guy around. Do you really want that bad vibe of? Well, we tried to strong arm you here into a contract that's based on what your peers got probably less than what you're worth? You know what? I wonder is he the guy that ten times the qualifying offer his qualifying offers 16.4 million. So it's a pretty good sized number compared to where those qualifying offers usually come in. And then he'd be an unrestricted free agent in 2023. And then he can do whatever he wants. So I wonder if he looks out and says, you're going to make me go out and sign a deal with another team that you're just going to match and then you're going to have kind of control over this process for the next few years? Nah, I'll sign the qualifying offer. I'll play it out on that. But on myself and then I'll go get paid from whoever it is I want to be with the next year. And I think the other thing is to I learned today on Twitter. A lot of people don't fully realize how good Deandre Eaton has, but also true. He's a walking double double. This guy shows up and he's 15 and ten. Every night, it's just, you know, it's kind of ridiculous that we're here. Andy's become a pretty good defender. So just you got to get this one done if you're the sons. That would be a first, wouldn't it? If a guy was to turn down big money in order to take the qualifying offer. But that's interesting. Because it hasn't happened. I don't even have that as like a thought in my head as a possibility, but you're right, if that qualifying offer is 16 million, maybe that is it. Maybe that is the path we go. And that would be disastrous for the Phoenix Suns. If that's what if that's what? Yeah, that's why you can't push this. Don't mess around. Just get it done. It's not going to it's not going to be a bad contract. You'll be fine. You know, he's going to be a top 5 to 8 center in the league for the life of whatever his next deal is. Assuming it's four or 5 years, just get it done. It's still the center position is not dead. People may make go too far with that in the NBA. So but yeah, yeah, I don't know. And I get it, you got to also think about paying Mikael bridges. And he's probably gonna push somewhere between 15 to 20 million a year as my guess. But Garrett lock it in, spend a whole bunch of money. I mean, part of the whole thing with Chris Paul was, he's only on the big contract for one more year after this. And then everything dips into being partially guaranteed. So you can get out of that if you're really need to into much cheaper money you got Cameron Payne on a nice deal. Jay Crowder's only got a year left. So you're really only looking at a huge tax bill for probably a year or two. And do it. You're a title contender. You're right there. You went to game 6 of the finals. In a two O series lead, you know, if things had gone right, you might have been able to win it, but we'll see, you know, I don't have a lot of faith that ownership is going to.

"You're probably don't want to be here anymore. We're just going to wave you will eat the 2.7 million hit and off we go. Thanks for your years of service. Again, our year of service in this case. But yeah, that kind of tends to be the more likely path that happens. Comp for this is when rasheed Wallace retired from the Celtics. Now several years I got a longer ago than I even want to admit to thinking that that actually happened. But he retired, but then was he didn't officially retire, but it was I'm not going to play. And being a Celtics just waved him and ate the cap hit. The spurs did that on the last year. Tim Duncan with the idea there of being, hey, this is more of a bonus payment to you for everything you did for us as a franchise. So my guess is if it comes down to it, they'll just wave him, and they'll eat the 2.7 and off will go. So that's probably the way things go there. Obviously, they could explore a trade and see if maybe there was also, you know what? I want to stay in the NBA. I don't want to be here. Can you help me out and get me somewhere? I'm sure you could find maybe a landing spot or something like that could be worked out. But I think most likely if we do see a parting of the ways, and to me, the Deandre Jordan signing suggests that's what's coming next. I can't imagine them going into the season with three true, pure centers on the roster, where they can't play any other position. It's not like there are four or 5 combo three guys who can only play center and then plus you've got Anthony Davis in the mix. That would be a bit surprised if they went into the season with all three of those guys on the roster. So we'll have to wait and see what happens here with Marc Gasol and how the Lakers opt to handle this. But again, it does appear Deandre. Jordan by the way, the Lakers have a press conference. One hour from now, this moment right now as we're recording. And that is most likely to announce Deandre Jordan's arrival. One more thing on Marcus all real quick. Just so people are aware too because they signed him using the minimum exception last year, even though it was a two year contract, so he didn't count for the two year minimum. He got counted at the ten year minimum. He does qualify to be traded under the minimum exception trade rules, which essentially means any team that is not hard capped could trade for him for essentially nothing. They could send back a top 55 protected pick to the Lakers or draft rights to a player or just some minor thing there. So yeah, so that's where that one will probably go. If there is a trade, that's how he'll be acquired. So it just makes it a lot easier to move him via trade because the team doesn't need to take him into an exception or that despite the fact that he's at the 2.7 instead of the 1.7 million veteran minimum for this year about just a little cat mechanics there here on the front office show because that's what we do. And that's good to note too, for anybody who's thinking, oh, they could trade Mark salt, and maybe actually get something. They're not going to get something for them. The Lakers are going to get if they traded. It will be more of a situation, say, hey, where is it that you want to play?.

"The bench guy. That's my take. Ashley Ralph said rondo and Howard played well together. I don't see Russ and Dwight not clicking. Yeah, look, that's the counterpoint, right? To me being concerned about the lack of three point shooting with Russ and Dwight on the floor together is that rondo and Dwight worked together. Part of that is rondo is really, really, really good at throwing lobs. And Dwight is really, really, really good at finishing loves. You know, who wasn't really good at throwing lobs? Then a schroder and that did not happen very often. But rondo's great at throwing them, I believe Russ can be good at that as well. Now Dwight Howard, I do think it's interesting, right? Dwight Howard Deandre Jordan, what do they provide? Law of threats. We're talking about what's called vertical spacing, okay? So we talk all the time about three point shooting. We talk about floor spacing, and essentially what you are trying to do with three point shooters is force the defense to get out of the paint, right? Force the defense out of the paint so that that opens up driving plates. But what a guy like Deandre Jordan, at least in his heyday, we'll see what he's got. What a guy like Dwight Howard can do. Is they create vertical spacing. In other words, there's such a threat to catch that lob and explode to the rim that they suck the defense in and open up kick out. So I'm talking about you again into a screen roll situation. Russell Westbrook drives Dwight Howard sets the screen Russ navigates that screen gets around Dwight is cutting to the basket. You're gonna draw the corner defender to come in to tag Dwight because they're gonna be so worried about that hammer dunk, and that's gonna open up the shooter in the corner. So it's vertical spacing. It's gravity, but in a different way than how we typically think of it. And that's something that the Lakers really valued. That's one of the benefits of getting a Deandre Jordan if he can still finish those lobs and then it's certainly the counterpoint again to my concern about the lack of three point shooting. If you can make Dwight a very consistent log thread if he's got that just kind of chemistry that tyreek hill Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce Patrick Mahomes, chemistry, where they've just got this mind meld and they can just get on the other end of these passes. That's where you can negate the lack of three point shooting in the half court if you can consistently get that lob thread at the rim. That's actually gonna open up shooters on the perimeter for you. So again, that's the counterpoint to my own.

"Stuff happens and we go live and it'll be at kind of an odd time because we tend to jump on things right when news breaks. So make sure you are subscribed and turn on those notifications. Very important. And while you're at it, you might as well subscribe to the NBA front office show and turn on notifications there as well that show is growing like crazy. I'm so proud. We're about to hit 10,000 followers over there and Keith Smith and I just started up that show recently. So we've been having a lot of fun with that covering the entire NBA. But tonight, I want to start off with Deandre Jordan. Yeah, look, a lot of Lakers fans right now. Kinda on the fence at best at best about Deandre Jordan. I've got I put out the poll on Instagram. I put it up on the Lakers nation, Instagram account. I also put up a my Instagram account at at Trevor lane NBA. Asking whether people would rather have Damian Jones or Deandre Jordan. And Damian Jones on my account actually won on the Lakers nation account Deandre Jordan won because the Lakers according to Mark Stein wanted Damien Jones. Beginning of the summer, that was their plan. Was for Damian Jones to get well, have his option not picked up by the Sacramento Kings, and then they were going to bring them back. And didn't go the way they wanted it to. Sacramento picked up his option. Sacramento has, by the way, 5 centers, I believe on the roster right now crazy. But regardless, Sacramento picked up the option in the Lakers plan was foiled. Maybe Sacramento picked up the option just because they knew what the Lakers plan was. But regardless, the Lakers wanted Damian Jones. Instead, they're getting Deandre Jordan. And a lot of Lakers fans I've seen people making a lot of negative comments about this signing. And by the way, it's not officially done yet should be done any time now. You just have to clear way version remember today is a holiday. So in terms of getting business done, probably going to happen tomorrow. But anyway, Deandre Jordan coming to the Lakers. This is going to happen. And a lot of people are saying he's washed, right, based on what he did with the nets. He just doesn't have it anymore. And I think that's probably it's probably an honest assessment, right? When you look at what he provided last year for the nets, we think of Deandre Jordan in his prime. The best version of Deandre Jordan, just this lob threat at the rim and this great defensive presence blocking everything the nets were actually better defensively last season with Deandre Jordan.

"Let's shift some ears. Talk some basketball a monday morning. Because the veteran lakers about to get even more veteran e big men de'andre jordan intends to sign with the lakers after being traded and then bought out by the distance jordan would be the tenth laker h thirty two or older and six of those guys thirty five plus nick jordan on the same team. Never thought i'd see the day Do you like the lakers bringing in deandra jordan. Nice good line janna listen. We're still getting the edible arrangements in the sheri's berries my for apologies that were from the audience last week. But you can feel free to send more to me. And by the way if you're feeling generous include kenny atkinson who lost his job arguably because he saw what i saw in fall which is de'andre jordan's not great at the old basketball anymore and now the nets finally admitted as they say. Hey you can have deandre jordan in detroit says no. We don't want them feel like what did we include six million dollars. They're like us. Don't want what we include for. Second round picks like okay. We'll take him and then we'll ask him to leave and now the legs are gonna take them. So i i understand that folks probably expect me to say well with lebron on it. He'll be different exam while. I do believe that braun has the ability to get the most out of any and all teammates. He's played with for now. Eighteen plus years. There has to be something to be gotten and driving. This moves. the needle for the lakers. No do i think de'andre jordan can possibly play a similar role to the one javale. Mcgee played when they won the title shore. But that is like you're eleventh man your second or third center. Not including anthony davis who really it should be your center so no my feelings on andre jordan had been very consistent and now the right now. The nets have finally caught up over the last couple of years. He's not the guy that he wants was he is no longer member. Doc rivers bizarre was like he should be defensive player of the year but now he actually kind of hurt you on that end. Because of his inability to guard the perimeter and switches. So no. I don't think it hurts the lakers. Chances of winning. I don't think he's a net negative your twelfth man. Who cares. But i certainly don't think it helps them or it's a needle mover for the los angeles lakers

"No, I think he absolutely can and will contribute to this Lakers team. I think we saw it in Portland. We saw the blueprint for how he's going to contribute. But I think because he's got the big name, he gets a little bit overhyped where people are expecting him to do these big things. Temper those expectations. If he scores in the double digits, I will be very happy, right? If he gives you ten points a game, even if it's just ten on the nose. I'd be pretty happy as long as it's efficiently. I think we have to focus more on just his efficiency. The fact that he can come in, be a scoring threat, don't assume he's going to come in, scoring 20 points per night or doing anything on the defensive end of the floor. Yes, he's got a big name, but he's 37 years old. He has made that transition to becoming a role player. And I think we have to make sure that we see him through that lens. He's a role player now at this point in his career. He's not your go to guy. I think you can give him the ball in crunch time in certain situations. If you can generate an open look, he can knock those down, but he's no longer the guy where you say the offense is in trouble. Here's the ball, you go figure it out. That's not his ideal role anymore. Yeah, it's the same way we talked about Dwight Howard and Rajon Rondo in 2019, 2020, where when they came to the Lakers, it was, hey, these are big names. They are not the players they were anymore. They can still provide an impact, and here's the blueprint to do that. But don't expect that they are who they used to be. Because they're not. And that's okay. Guys slip, you know, lose a little lose a step here and there all the time. Carmelo is still going to be a pretty impactful player for the team, but he's not going to be Carmelo Anthony. All right, so I've got a lot of people that are on our chat right now talking about Mark Gasol. So let's dive into the right now, right? Most of the roster is set. However, there have been lingering rumors stemming from a couple of weeks ago, Mark Stein mentioned that Marc Gasol might still leave the Lakers. And then the whole Deandre Jordan thing popped up and now the nets suddenly have Millsap, potentially Aldridge. It seems like the Andre Jordan's on the way out the door. So where do you stand Ron on the Deandre Jordan versus Marc Gasol debate? Because it feels like you're probably not going to have both. I guess I'll let you respond. Do you think they could just keep all of them? Keep white, bringing Jordan and keep cassol?.

"Future. Yeah, it's to the top writers can be. I would anticipate them, you know, getting to a lot more Conference Finals and getting some finals. You know, with the next couple of years, I really do all right coach. And then lastly do you you have the songs when the series right after this today, or do you think the Bucks you make some adjustments? I have a son's, I mean, I had two sons winning it for sure offer. And, you know, I don't know how many games it's easier. Now to say after they won the first one, I would say me to be safe. I'd say this one's and six six. Yeah, absolutely size. Okay, cuz thank you so much my man, osseous, great. Thank you, you too, all righty. There goes, Kevin. Great call. Let's do, let's bring an atom. Let's see here. Adam, are you there? I'm going to got Adam, I got Dila, Saya. I got rich and Daniel, I guess in that order. As long as these things stay, in the same order, then I'll do it that way. But Adam, what's happening, man? What's up coach? Nick, how're you doing tonight? I'm doing well, how are you doing? I'm doing pretty well, as, you know, two out of fun, time watching the game. It's nice live stream. I do have a question. I just wanted to say, I know you remember me, shouting out DeAndre ayton for finals MVP before this stream. So, I'm glad that the game Chris Paul stole is twenty-twenty but I don't know if you saw the stat with him and cream. Yep. Before he, you know, switch to Islam but like I do. I do believe it. It's either him a crisp offer phones that he did if they win. Yeah. Oh listen. He was hoovering up. All those rebounds to be who's the he was anchored. They weren't getting I mean, how many offensive boards they get? They got nine. The Bucks did, I mean, I came in picture any of them at this point and maybe they probably all were gotten when he was on the bench because everything else he just grabbed. He ended up with money. 15 17. Rebounds total fifteen defense. If I mean he was just a just a vacuum down there..

"Thank you down dray. What did you guys like about what you heard there. I mean his maturity level his growth. You know you always tell the guy that has a high q. The way that he talks about the game of basketball you could tell. Andre aiden is growing and you could tell. He's a student of the game now and he takes his craft more serious now. Well i think it takes time you have to grow and ultimately you have to absorb stop and i think he'd been doing that over time period and then when you add chris paul to that mix. It's like no no no no no. This is not about you figuring it out this about me. Showing you the way and sometimes coaches will allow player to figure it out and give them the time on the court but i think now he's starting to see that confidence. You're starting to see him. You know see what's going on even then taking on that challenge of janas. Well this guy was a number-one pick right and there were other people there. You had the luca you had trae young but here you have the phoenix suns with the number one. Pick about the play in the nba finals. What i love is how much he realizes the factors that have come into play in his career. he's still in his early twenties. It's hard to sometimes remember that. And he is very open about the fact that when monte came the coach here that monte said to him. You're not working hard enough right. Monty has that expression. I'm not calling you out. I'm calling you up and he said i'm calling you up. I think you can work harder. I think you can do better. And that changed the amount of time. He spent the gym the way he approached playing basketball. And then. Of course. Chris paul coming here as andre says. He yells at me every day but he also added that chris paul coming here has changed the course of his career. He says it's one of the favourite guys he's ever played with and i think that openness on dangerous part to feedback and to be willing to learn from two men like chris. Paul money williams. I just think it speaks volumes about him because we see sometimes young players who don't want to be told anything and here's a guy who has taken in the expertise of the people around him and he's in the final. You can't be coddled to greatness all these parents all these coaches that wanna coddle. You know they're great players and they don't want to push them. It's like you're not helping them become great fame. There's one thing that i think everyone on this panel and everyone in the nba knows chris. Paul does not coddle. yes does not coddle. Speaking of chris paul he was just speaking and he talked a little bit about why things just feel different in the nba finals. Take listen is different. Obviously haven't practiced here not at practice facility but is still basketball. Think we all locked into you. Know the goal their hand and much just. I don't know it's weird. No gains being on usually watch games every day. So that's probably the most. I'd rather be playing and not other than that just by pretty fun to see someone who you know has spent sixteen years waiting for this moment. Have it wash over him that he is here. What does it say about. Chris paul that he has finally broken through the thing that everyone kendrick held accountable for well you know. He's never reached. The finals was says the light. And i'll go back to what i said. Last week about about is not what you do is how you do it. And the journey. He chose to do it in for us reaching the finals. We all know it aged thirty six. He could have chose to sit down with sam christie negotiator by whatever. The case may be could've went to contender. Probably pick somewhere like the lakers. Miami milwaukee but he chose to come to phoenix. What a young cord. That has zero playoff experience and come here and lead them. That's what makes it so special. And i get it. People talk about the injuries to the lakers. Jamal murray being out whatever. The case may injuries to chris paul right shoulder and he came in. He embraced these young guys. These guys follow these lee and look what at right now. So at the end of the day i wanna go back to a lot of people take the regular season for granted they were the number two seed so they put themselves in a position to be where they right now and that's why they have home court advantage like all of these people wanna talk about. Oh what is you know. The the phoenix signs in their journey. But even the chris paul. I really don't think that. Chris paul his situation changes by getting to the finals. I think if he gets if he wins the championship. Then i think it will be. I think you'll be held in a different regard. But i'm proud of him. I'm excited for him. I went to the finals. My first and second year and then didn't go again till my fifteenth year so there was a thirteen year gap between going to shut up between me and go into the finals. But part of that is because you've got to put the work and you got to be persistent which you've been to four nba finals. Yes for you to sank. We've we've got more to come for one win so technically you're less successful than me. What how percentage wise. He's one for five on one for four. Oh my all.
