"When we look at the defense for the Giants that bring in Blake Martinez this past offseason. They made that trade which I don't really get for Leonard Williams last year. Now he's back on the franchise tag. The giant's defense is what to you for this upcoming year Mark Cross. The Giants defense is not much better than last year on a CZ you saw last year they really were a liability. The biggest thing is the pass rush. They still don't have a pass rusher. They basically are counting on Markus Golden, who they signed very late. You know that? No. No one else around the league really want market stolen. There wasn't a big market for him. He's a free agent and they got him in a couple weeks ago signed him back. They have a couple of young players that they're counting on who didn't really produced last year. So you know that's really in the NFL. You gotta rush the past. We had to get after the quarterback and the Giants don't really I still have that pass for us. Even though they've been looking for that past couple years, I thought, I think Blake martinis with their big free agent signing along with James Bradberry. He's a corner. You know, Blake Martinez, I think really is just kind of a journeyman talent, a za linebacker, and they played a bunch of money for him. When you look at James Bradberry, they paid a bunch for him. But How much better is he then? Generous Jenkins. You know they had issues with generous because of his personality and his comments he made which were obviously wrong. But how much better is James Bradberry than generous? Jenkins that you have a look at it? But DeAndre Baker situation their first round pick where they lost. You know, in the sand deal there their third round pick from the supplemental draft a couple years ago. They lost him as well. So you're gonna help.

"On. I'm really excited to see what they end up doing. Last question for you again because of your time. Not mine. Um, anything jets or giants? Little nugget, wise or observation wise, just because obviously, that's the dominant, you know, fan group that we serve here at the fan Anything Jets giants that strikes you as we sit here, you know, Couple I don't know. Days weeks away from we hope training camp. I mean, I think just to me the biggest questions going to training camp for what's going to happen with two guys whose situations air influx you're Jamal Adam because you show up to camp or does he Decide to be a holdout, which is very expensive and punitive and not for everyone, but We'll see If he goes that route. It's hard to stay away from the image while the practicing but We'll see if he ends up doing that. And in DeAndre Baker very different situation. Does he show up? He can't be allowed to what is his legal situation? Obviously, a lot to play out there. Good job, and I really thank you Tell Leah and the boys Hello for me. And thanks so much for your time. Right. Always a pleasure can pick their thanks to you. I think he has, like, 17 other things to do with his family today, But it was correct, Vivian to join me and great info. "M I A and F M New York. Hit the noon hour, 12 03 Moussa Maggie with you on a Monday midday roller right up until two. Joe and Evan to come your way, then Pat Leonard Daily News is going to join us about 15 minutes from now. 20 your calls at 877337 66 66 hit us up on Twitter. At Eminem. W F A A. And then back you would kick off this hour with another twist in the DeAndre Baker story, a story that kind of I guess. After we had Amy Dash on the last time, the legal expert I kind of basically thought that you know that story was over. Whatever that is that I don't think crazy like nothing happened. And that Baker was really just gonna walk away. Scot free. Here's over water. You know, if it was it was a character assassination. It was him being charged with things that he wasn't even close to being a part of and that this was all going basically. And with one big apology to DeAndre Baker and sort of everyone going their separate ways, we'll pump the brakes on that for a second. Well, no doubt pump the brakes and a tremendous job of great reporting by the Daily News and Pat Leonard as they were able to basically get the information and The investigation continued in DeAndre Baker to the point where you know they're requesting the iCloud accounts because I mean these idiots Are having conversations on direct messaging, texting each other to the point where they have it on video guys showing up in a law office with a bag of cash. How much money DeAndre Baker talking to his lawyer, or I would say Ah, Ah ah! Ah, bag man, a guy that was trying to take care of the situation for him and communicating with both parties having the conversation of him basically, being late to the law office, this is DeAndre bacon out texting this guy. Right. Texting on that he's late to the loft is trying to find a parking spot and headed to the bank. Tell me how much cash I need. I mean, what do we do since it's one of what is going on here? Where's the PlayStation? By the way, I thought he was logged in playing Madden all day long. Where is that? I don't know. But I think this now new information that has come to light. I really thought this was going to be something that the Giants were going to be able to just sort of move past. DeAndre Baker was going to move past it. This was not going to be an issue for the organization at all. No headaches for Joe Judge, no headaches for Dave Gettleman, and everyone sort of goes about their day and and DeAndre Baker, you know, just hopes to approve of his second year. But no, that is not the case anymore and listen. We're worse hearing now from Baker's lawyer who's basically saying like they were kind of like AA, and I will ask Pat to clarify this, but like basically trying to set a trap For these people to admit that they were taking up that they were taking bribes and and this has gotten so convoluted. But the bottom line of this is is that it appears from this warrant. First, all that the investigation is still on. He's been charged, so those charges were never dropped. He's still charged with robbery and Now this investigation is like back in full swing. And if you're reading the text messages, the DMZ. It does appear from the way these look and listen. It's all going to get played out in a court of law, so we're not You know most and I are judge, jury and executioner by any guys If there's any pain guys off that he robbed Basically that they paid their story and that 50 grand to change their story and they paid the fees. They pay. They so Baker Baker Dunbar robbed him. And then they realise that what did we just do? They found they found ah, middleman to basically work both sides. They came up with the cash amount and paid them of $55,000 for them to change their story. I mean, that's basically it now. This is just back on the lap of the New York Giants, right? Something that you thought you were not going to have to deal with. Are out off. The Giants ever thought that maybe they have been more up today. Obviously, they've been more up to date on this than the public. But you know that you thought that this was really going to go away and literally moves. I thought I thought the way that Amy Dash made it seem and the lawyers and all these change statements. I literally thought the Andre Baker was going to get an apology. And a sorry for taking dragging your bet your name through the mud, your good name through the mud and all of these things, and it turns out that he actually may have been a party to paying these people to change their story. I mean, he could be looking at serious trouble Still, and now it's back on the lap of the Giants and this investigation. It seems like it's back on. It's a baker's looking at something really serious year. Willis and I was never I was I was never there where I thought I'd get an apology. We And, you know, choked around about like, if you're ever going to do something wrong doing in Florida because thie laws down there are very, very odd and very, very strange. We've seen numerous examples of that outside of what we're going through a year and witnessing with DeAndre Baker So I never thought I just thought Maggie that the prosecution wasn't much of a case if everybody was recanting and saying that they didn't get robbed, or it didn't transpire it and go down and they're moving away from it. Then how exactly are you going to be able to move forward with the case? So it seemed to me that Baker and Dunbar We're going to be able not necessarily get a new apology or get off scot free, but they were gonna be playing football if we have football this fall for the Giants and the Seahawks, respectively. And that is that does not appear to be the case right now. Where? You know, there were reports over the weekend. I think Sa y a report saying that you know that you know, the future of DeAndre Baker is not that long in a giant uniform. I'd be hard pressed to see him. If this is indeed everything that came out in this daily news report on Friday night, is indeed true, Baggy. And the answer is simple. DeAndre Baker is not going to be a giant much longer. No, that is the case that appears to be building against him right now, from the search warrant from warrants and other things are painting a pretty bleak picture here. But just like the ridiculousness of this aspect, if this is indeed true off them, robbing someone and then paying them off to change their story. But here here, someone's going Bonnie changes like that to be. It's just so silly about Ifyou're DeAndre, but you're right. That's silly. That's a that's amazing. I mean, you know the idea that you could actually get somebody that gave in contact with the people that you just robbed and be able to work out a settlement agreement and bring the cash there and then pay them off in order to change their story. What do you look at it? I mean, look it first and foremost, Dunbar, who is you know, used to play for the skins down in Washington. Dunbar is a former. I believe wide receiver that converted to cornerback. His Washington as a staff down there, loved his athletic ability and thought he could transition a corner. Actually transition. A corner in the National Football League has made himself a player he could play. He really can..

"Than league. Nfl Coach of the favorites bill. Belichick new even without Tom Brady slight edge in the field per the bet. Gm oddsmakers plus one thousand here in terms of winning. Not Far behind Tennessee's Mike Fable a New Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy at fourteen to one then you get a three way tie. San Francisco's Kyle Shanahan. Indianapolis Frank Reich at Arizona's cliff Kingsbury. Every coach that has won this award since Nineteen ninety-one has piloted his team to at least ten wins. Jimmy Johnson was the only head coach be named. Nfl coach through the losing record. That was a cowboys and they went seven and nine during the nineteen ninety season. So Bell is is always a smart pick. Of course Mike but Variable I think McCarthy makes sense because Dallas listen last couple years. They've been underachievers. You feel like if you had a better coach. He could make that talent better. Shanahan the niners who are based here ago. Frank Reich is interesting Kingsbury. Don't see them jumping up to ten. Wins right away and Sean McDermott. Of course of the buffalo bills plus eighteen hundred buffalo feels. If they're on the cusp of winning obviously the made the acquisition to get digs. Help Josh Allen. Good defense but interesting picture. Which one stands out to you? I mean I think Mike McCarthy's a really good bet here. I think that you know when you look at McCarthy at fourteen hundred I think the cowboys schedule is favourable towards them. I think that when you're evaluating coaching staffs and I think when you're evaluating how do I WANNA bet with the staff? How do I want to put this together like coaches? The coaching staff has more value than what homefield advantage advantages? You know we have. We hear that Goddamn stupid line. Well homefield advantage is worth three points. Well is it really worth three points? Cincinnati or is it worth three points in Seattle like every fields. Different right like every fields different. Like you could go into you know. Kansas City's hard place to go into. But maybe going into the charges facility isn't so hard so why would you give three points on that you have to variance in the same thing with coaching? Staffs you've got variants. The coaching staff on every single game. And it's just not the head coach Mike McCarthy in Dallas right so he's got McCarthy's one a lot of games in his career he's got a good offensive staff. I mean Kelham. Moore's there with them Kelham more. They moved the ball last year. They were effective saying Kelham. Moore's the greatest coach. I'm just saying they got a good line coach. They've got some good pieces there. They've got one of the best special teams coach and All Nippon John Fossil. They've got one of the best line coaches in all of football in Jim Tomasulo. So when you add those together the sum of the parts to me I think McCarthy's are really good play. I think Frank Rice are really good. Play as well. Because you know Reich is really good. He's a really good offensive coach. Ebert Flus the defensive coordinator. He's gotTa take giant mother. May I step up you know bubba ventral and the special teams coach? They're going to be coached well in all three phases and they did. I don't see Kingsbury. I'm with you AD. I don't see Kingsbury win in ten games. Are They MC Dermott? Could you really when you're betting on mcdiarmid? You're betting on Josh Allen. If you WanNa do that God bless you go ahead? I? I don't WanNa do it? You know so I think San Francisco takes a step back and then it leads us to Bella check and I think look ballot check if he wins it without Brady then certainly. He's going to be employees because they will be good. They will not be a bad football team. Anybody who thinks that's crazy. Maybe a little bit hurt by just having done it for so long. Andy Reid and Sean Payton are plus two thousand along with Mike Tomlin. So that's like at the outer edge of the top ten along with John Harbach Peak Carroll Plus Twenty five hundred. What maybe actually funnier. Mike is you go the other way. See the worst. Picks Doug Marrone Billy O'Brien Matt Patricia of Jacksonville Houston Detroit respectively plus five thousand and then Kevin's Defence Cleveland and Anthony Lynn of the charges plus four thousand Joe Judge also plus four thousand like that would be. I don't WANNA say Miracle Imagine Anthony later Kevin Fancier Doug marrone when it coach of the year. Come I mean how about Gruden. Plus Three thousand one hundred million dollar man. He's one of the highest pay coaches on the list. And he's plus three thousand. I mean and again you know hires Rod Marinelli to be as D. Line coach. That's a good coach. Paul Guenther he's got gunther to be as defensive coordinator. He's got cables line. I mean he's got a lot of money on his staff. I mean for him to be plus three thousand. I mean I mean Zach Taylor's ranked higher in this odds than Jon. Gruden think about that. Let that sink in for a while. Let that sink in for a while. Zach Taylor is got less odds than grew think about that. John's won eleven games in two years in Oakland Eleven. You know and so you know if there's ever going to be a case for gotTa Win Coach of the year. It has to be winning coach. There you gotta go from being Shitty to be in great right well if you won. Eleven Games in two years and you come out and win twelve games the next year. You should be coach. You've doubled your win. Total in one season we add the other. One is just GONNA mention quickly. You mentioned Zach. Also Dan Quayle Atlanta plus twenty five hundred. I mean there's again a team that was underachieving embedded. They were bad. He almost lost his job so they actually played to their potential that he could be the coach of your conversation. Yeah I mean it's like it's interesting. How these numbers come in and you know I would take a flyer on frank right. I would definitely bit ballot. Check here I think I mean I think you know Sean. Payton for him to get it. You've got this is a little bit like the MVP voting the. The team has to really do other. Mike Tomlin should have won it last year. You know now. He's a fairly good odd here because if they come back and win twelve games. He's liable to wind even though maybe last year was as better coaching job. But he gets big Ben back. So that makes a difference. I mean poor billy. O'brien that guys want fifty three. He's like twelve games over five hundred a head coach. He's got a better record than most of the coaches and yet he's plus five thousand. I mean you can't take a more negative approach towards somebody. I mean once it starts piling on like it just piles on piles on and piles on. No one has any objectively at all. The guys one like four of the six times. He's been league. He's won the south and now he's he's treated like he's never won a game. Yeah you're right. People just want more and expect more and once that narrative gets spun all of a sudden. Okay it's underachiever. He gets the playoffs. They Win Division. But don't do anything beyond that and also that can be a very tough handle. It's crazy. Look at these odds overall. Blake. You said build all realize how much good coaching exist right now. In the League one more authorized a couple more actually plush toys under right in the Middle Doug Peterson with Philadelphia and Matt Leflore with Green Bay. Again INTERESTING NAMES. High Profile Coaches. Peterson's wanted super bowl but they're kind of middle of the pack to your point in the NBA as well for years or is it will pop. It should win coach there every year because he obviously is the best coach but you often reward. The team who is lousy them becomes good and then all of a sudden that coach by the way loses his job in the third year because it goes back to be a crappy. It's really I mean I think for Doug Peterson look. He's one of the best events coordinators football in gym shorts right. So he's got that covered. He's gotta find a way. Now he's talking about changing the offense more into the Kyle Shanahan mode and run in that style. More play action more trying to get the ball down the field because last year. He didn't have a receiver on the team. That had over five hundred yards and perceptions. So he's got to try to do that. You know special teams have always been fairly good in Philly. I think it's GonNa come down to the offense ally but it's not just the name I think as betters. You always have to look at the staff's you know you always have to look at you. Know we got Adam gays. But then he's got to Greg Williams and special teams and you know you've got to kind of par lay it all into and that staff against staffs that's how the best way to bet is to understand the true staff. Pete Carroll's at Plus Twenty five hundred right him and Zach. Taylor are the same one thing about Seattle if they win twelve Games Russell. Wilson's the MVP. Carol should be the coach of the year candidate. But I think there's always a mentality that you've got to take something that's really bad and turn it around like what team is going to be the team that flips it. Could IT BE OAKLAND? Could IT BE DENVER? You know what team has a schedule that can really allow itself to win games. Could it be Anthony? Lynn say Anthony. Lynn Wins Twelve Games with eleven games. You know so. I think that's how you have to look at it. No question we come back a closing thoughts or the GM shuffle. Open up the mail bag question here about leadership plus entertainment section. "A great new show on Amazon prime that no one knows about Michael. Tell you all about that. The last dance wraps up can't talk betting enough right. How about the odds right now for coach of the year favorites and also this wild story evolving Andrea Baker. But we begin with the Rooney rule. And how about this? We know it's been an issue for a while now and it comes the national football league in terms of managing the fact that it's not nearly enough minorities in positions of power so there was a concept of an idea being folded out there about possibly added compensatory draft compensation that teams that it'd be weighted in terms of the jobs providence This was a previous report from Jim. Trotter of NFL DOT COM and now CBS sports NFL insider. Jonathan Jones has confirmed the NFL's decide to table those conversations. But think about this Mike. The Rooney rule established in two thousand and three is going to see some changes as owners have approved the proposal that removes restrictions on assistant coaches interview for Coordinator. Rolls before we get into how to fix this issue. How about that concept of literally impacting draft if you had a minority as a GM to me. That's crazy. Yeah I mean we've known in any business circle it just tells you to really how out of touch the NFL offices. Incentives don't work and you're missing the core of the problem you know you're picking the top of the tree. We gotta get down to the root of the problem right. We gotta get down to the essence of of what's going on. And they have no idea fans at home have no idea about how people become head coaches in the NFL. It is an elected position. It's not as selected position and we keep pretending it's selected based on merit based on. He's the best man for the job. Okay let's just take this an example and I'm not passing judgment here at all but Thomas mcgahey the special teams coach for the New York football giants as an African American coach. And he's outstanding. He's one of the best special teams coaches in the League right. He didn't even get a sniff. As the New York giants head coach. Joe Judge who basically started coaching mcgahey was was coaching and judge was still in high school. Judge gets this job and I'M NOT BEGRUDGING JOE AT ALL. Joe was in line to get the Mississippi State job. That's where he was it know and then he got the giants job. But my point here is this. Joe was electable Joe's coming from the Patriots. He's coming from a winning tradition. He's coming from this. John Mayer is not going to stand in front of Media and say well you know after too hard years. I've just promoted Thomas mcgahey to my new head coach whether you like it or not. You know he's got he's got a beat you've got to be electable and that's where the NFL has no understanding about this whole thing. No understanding at all is a it's electable position and be it's really about leadership it's really about leadership and Dell. We did that Del Seminar. Manar on what the NFL could do to create a better. Minority hiring practice females minority coaches. Whatever I mean it's a back end loaded system that they're trying to deal with and they don't really have any understanding of it at all yet. Tom Pellicer the NFL. Net Report on Monday teams are now required to interview at least two. Extra MINORITY CANDIDATES FOR HEAD. Coaching jobs at least one minority candidate. Freddie coordinator position and along with those changes clubs Miss Interview one external minority candidate procedure football operations and GM jobs league team operas. Positions are also required to include minority aid or female applicants for senior level positions. But as to what you're alluding to it's one thing is listed you've got to interview this person but of course those can be just token interviews. You can still have your is somebody else okay. We check this box and so the League doesn't get mad at US okay. We'll just bring in this minority. Go from there. That's not going to solve the issue. Currently there are four non white head coaches and two non white gentlemen of the NFL. This is a league which two thirds of the players are African American of the last twenty head. Coaching hires three have been filled by minority head. Coach at gets one thing to say okay. The numbers are off a little bit but those numbers are off drastically from what it should be in terms of what player representation is no doubt and the problem is is. It's not just getting minority coaches hired. It's making them successful at. That's an internal problem through the. Nfl is how do we make coaches so like Chee? G has the CROTON Center for leadership that developed that they send their employees to this leadership center to train them to become better so they can move up through G. Right. Why doesn't the NFL with all the money? They have with all the resources at their disposal. Why don't they have some place out of New York City in in somewhere? A leadership center that they can train players female coaches and train them on absolutely the essentials of leadership right. Here's what you have to do when Jim. Harbaugh came in the raiders and he stopped playing. Jim Harbaugh Ball. He just didn't understand how to work. Excel how to work power points how to organize day like who's helping ex players do that. He didn't understand how to build a culture. He didn't understand any of that. You know and so. We're asking the players. Yeah they know something about the sport and they know the scheme but they don't understand how to lead and we missed this whole thing completely. In fact I tried to have this conversation with Troy Vincent at the University of Pennsylvania this year and I told him about by gridiron genius for coaches to read. You know but football coaches. Don't read my book. I get more basketball coaches that zoo me every day than football coaches. The League office probably doesn't even know about the book. The books about how to become a better head coach. Maybe I don't know a fucking thing about it but at least there's something documented on paper. Bill Paulie wrote the book. They would have been given the book out you know. They would have been given the book to everybody because they don't like me so I'm not going to get any publicity on the book but the reality of it is is who's training people whose training these coaches to become great coaches. That's what we want. We want minority coaches to be successful. We want seven Mike. Tomlin's want coaches. That could come in the league and impact and lead men and show you know the youth of America what it takes to be a great leader you know at the Naval Academy at the Air Force or the army. They don't sit there and say we're going to incense is to promote we're going to teach leadership like what we have to do. We gotta go teach leadership and no one understands how screwed up the system. Is I mean think about this? If you were applying for a job you know an NFL t right. What are they naturally? Do they call one? Nfl team will call another till till team to ask them for a recommendation. Like seriously are you going to help out your competitor would? Abc CALL CBS to ask them about an announcer. Of course they wouldn't. Why would they were in the competitive businesses? We understand what we're looking for. We're going to develop that that's the way the NFL is all. You got to hire this guy. He's perfect for the job. Know and so this guy's perfect it's politicized it's elected not selected until the NFL gets their arms around it. You know rich is out there talking. We have to do something about it rich. What's your plan like seriously? What supplant are we going to have a leadership center where we could send ex players after they're done pliant part of it's free okay? We're going to fifty players are going to go every year. We're GONNA teach them on what it takes to be a successful coach. What Your Day's going to be like how it's going to happen how you have to interact with players. What's part of the job and now when you graduated from the school you're ready to go into the NFL. You're ready to go out and you may go through the school and say you know what coach is not for me. But the only way we're going to address the problem is to get a mass amount of people trained so that we have a lot of coaches in the league. That are ready to become head coaches and I can just tell you from experience. I've talked to too many coaches. You know minority white. It doesn't really matter. That head coaches have given it zero thought or have had any way to wear someone's taught them exactly what it needs to do to become a great head coach. They don't know and as you said we know what the problem is. But I think you're right. You get the root of the tree topic of these headlines. You look. We're fixing it right. You're putting a aid on on a lethal flesh wound. You've got actually do it? From the root of the problem and like you said teaching and doing it from the ground up. Everybody knows it's an issue but these ideas that they have. I mean. This is absurdity that idea mike about literally. I've got a black. Gm SALSA drafting five spots. Could you imagine the backless people be pissed about that? I mean it just shows you. How minimized like I could trade up. Five spots in the third round for sixth round pick is at all. It's really worth like for me. It's a deeper issue. It's really about leadership it's about trying to train people what what fans don't understand is the reason we have such a back end. Loaded system is simply this. If you're a position coach I'll give you a couple examples if you're a position coach for team and you are a your heart charge and you're demanding on the players right and you get a guy who talks to the media off the record and he rips the coach you become unelectable that s and I'll give you the perfect example when Kyle Shanahan was an assistant coach at the Washington redskins working for his father. He got fired. There wasn't a positive word about kyle. Shanahan coming out of Redskin park mostly by the punter from Richmond. The former general manager president but for the most part there wasn't a hard on the players. He's not friendly. The media bought right into a two for all the Washington media. He's not bub-bubba. He was unelectable when we hired him. In Cleveland it was so obvious he was a much better candidate to be a head coach. Mike Patton after the interviews that I just couldn't even imagine it but yet he was getting killed. That's what happens in the league if you don't play the political system right and you don't play it perfectly and get the players on side you're never gonna get there you're never gonNA get there. You need momentum. You need to carry the southern primaries. I mean Lyndon Johnson would have been tremendous at this he would have been absolutely golden it this but they don't understand the League office doesn't understand how much you know. Peter King's Monday morning quarterback when he writes about a certain coach and he gets quotes. That's packaging when Bob. Lamont the agent for most of these coaches the way he packages it. It's all PR. There's no essence of it. They want to win the press conference. They want to go in there and say oh we hired this guy and Peter King Column said he was great and Bob Lemond. Who's got all these coaches? He says he's great seriously. I mean how many coaches that Bob Lemond had. That have gone on to be great. Andy Reid certainly one of them. There's no doubt about it. There's NO BOB. Lots of tremendous guy. And he's made a ton of money. But for every Andy. Reid there's a Mardi morning there's a another coach who just hasn't done it so like at some point we have to develop a system that's gonNA teach leadership and the players. Don't get it. They think because they played they know how to coach No. You don't know how to coach because you don't know how to lead you don't know how to build a culture and to win and sustain and keep your job you gotta learn that you mentioned. Lyndon Johnson by the way how Great Bryan Cranston won a Tony Award for his representation of Lbj in all the way and then of course they adapted HBO show. They Lyndon Johnson which is fascinating. Is this a lot of good things? He did Civil Rights Act etc but Vietnam. I mean you talk about wanting destroy your resume Lyndon Johnson faceted figure in American politics right unbelievable. I mean truly probably you know the Vietnam on his shoulders was really you know. He allowed the generals and listened to the military enemy. There was that was unwinnable. War unwinnable and retreating look bad. So didn't want to do it. But that was an unwinnable war. I mean you read about the Bicycle Brigade I mean. Ad They talk about it. I mean what we would bomb a bridge.

"Show is going to feature an interview with Daniel Wallich legal analyst for the athletic as we try to understand more about the legal situation facing New York. Giants cornerback De'andre Baker. I though I wanted to To discuss a couple of things just mentioned a couple of things today. Tuesday may nineteenth is the day that some NFL facilities will begin to re-open to some employees. I believe also to injured players. Who are rehabbing from from surgeries or or two thousand. Nineteen Injuries Not However to coaching staffs And also on the as we know the the New York giants will not be among the team's opening their facilities. Today stay at home order still in place in New Jersey for the most part so the giants will not be among those teams. I believe the way that this works is that. Nfl Facilities Will Not Open to coaching staffs into full rosters until such time as all states are open in all coaching staffs are able to work in the facilities so a little bit of of movement toward toward reopening. But the giants won't be participating. But you know we. We hope we cross our fingers that there will be an on-time start to the season and this looks like a small first step toward hopefully moving in that direction. Couple of O- of big blue view notes that I wanted to mention before we get to to my interview with Daniel Wallich. I just wanted to mention that that throughout the off season here we are running through our our list of player profiles that we do annually looking at each and every player on the twenty twenty. Nf giants Ninety man roster that they'll bring to training camp whenever that begins also something else to look for. Giants fans is our annual summer school series. That should be starting up pretty soon. We're pretty excited about what we have lined up for you for you this summer. So hopefully hopefully you'll read that look forward to that We try the best we can to educate you guys about Various things not only with the giants but but football in general so hopefully. Hopefully everybody enjoys those and you learned some things from those. I know I do each every each and every year I learn a few things as we as we go through that series. So please look for that. Hopefully you'll enjoy it alright. Giants fans. Let's let's do this. Let's get right to the interview that I did with Daniel Wallich legal analyst for the athletic all right giants fans as we all struggle to sort of understand what's going on with the De'andre Baker legal situation thought I would seek some help on the matter and what I've done here today for you is turned to Daniel Wallich who is the legal analyst for the athletic. Daniel joins US now Daniel. Thank you very very much for coming on and and helping us. Try to understand all of this and thanks for vitamin on Biglou view sand for a long time. And.

"Then along comes Blake's now who sounds like an absolute moron on twitch. I can't get no Rona on like. Oh you gotta be kidding me that this guy is speaking for Major League baseball players. You got it you just gotTa tell him to shut his mouth. I mean does does. Does he know that there are in excess of thirty million Americans without a job right now so you understand that no of it and I understand. He wants his money and he. He's got a huge contract and now he's going to put himself in danger by going to play baseball and he may get the Rona. What just stay home then. Just don't play. I mean Rob Manford was on CNN. I think it was last night. And he basically said if there is no baseball. We're going to lose four billion dollars as an industry to the tune of about one hundred thirty five million dollars per team now. There are teams that can absorb that the Yankees certainly can absorb that the dodgers can absorb that. I'm sure the cubs could absorb that. I'm sure there are a number of teams that can handle that albeit. They'll end up. Probably having to furlough people within the in the in the within the teams corporation and all that other stuff the mariners already done and this moron comes out on twitch sounding like an absolute dope now he may be sent what he's saying may be somewhat accurate. I understand that but it's how you say it when you say it. And what are the reasons why you find yourself in that situation? This is not a lockout. This is not a strike. This is not a a fight over money. This is a pandemic that is touching everybody across the globe and here in the United States. It's hit us to the tune of thirty two million people out of work and this numb nuts decides to go on twitch and sound like an absolute dumb ass talking about how he's going to play for all of his money right and he's going to get he's going to get mine. He says he's going to get mine. I know I tried to recreate this one of my sports minutes this morning. I don't know how I sound what we created as far as like do a Blake's now and personal three because I'm using his words I'm using his words and sometimes when I use people's words it's hard to read through them and you gotta go over and over and over and over and over again because sometimes you're unable to speak English like they do and And this guy I mean I had. It took me five or six times through thing. Do we have that Eddie? Boomer trying to read players now bro. Y'All going to be like broke play for the love of the game man. What's wrong with you bro? Money should not be a thing bro. I'm risking my life. I should not be getting half because the season's cut you of lost it there you go back and forth. Oh man reports that whole thing. I gotta get mine Bro. He sounded like the dumbest Guy at my high lunch table. Who you knew was going to get left back in tenth grade. That's what he sounded exact during this thing and I don't care if that's disrespectful to him. That's how I felt like I felt like I was listening to a guy who in high school I knew was the dumbest guy in school and I would roll my eyes at. That's what he was speaking like like. He was like a seventeen year old totally in over his head. Having no idea what life is having no perspective. That's what he sounded like no. I'm not saying that that's what he is but in that clip. That's what he sounded like. Now I don't know if he's got any sort of remorse at this point or somebody came to him and gave him a different type of big picture thinking on this but this was rough now. I'm not saying that you don't care about your health. Of course you care about your health and you take the precautions but to say that. I'll play at this number but I won't play at this number. 'cause I gotTa get mine and I'm risking my life bro Bro. Like are you really like honestly like tell that to the guy that has to go over to Afghanistan? Who's making like one? I owed of what you make about. Who's risking their life or or tell that to the nurses coming home from a fourteen hour shift this morning because she worked overnight trying to save people who is also probably making less than one hundred thousand dollars right out of a controlled environment where you're GonNa get tested fifty times a week and then everybody's going to be making sure that you're staying healthy and you're a thin in shape young person I mean. Are you really risking Your Life? Bro? Yeah there's always going to be a risk but I mean come on you have no-one Aaron and Bryce Harper did come out in support him. No one is twenty nine years old so he's been around a little bit longer so his support of lakes now was a little bit more Palatable in other words you can you know what he said and how he kinda criticized but then he also agreed with Blake's now but it's a way he did the way Blake's did this at just. How this is the last thing you want. If you Tony Clark. This is the last thing you want. If you are the Melba you do not want to be talking openly about salaries now. I know that rob Manfred was talking. About how the teams combined can lose four billion dollars that they don't have games right so he goes on national television program and that's what he's basically saying he also out that that there was an eighty page protocol the deal with Cova. One thousand nine hundred and if somebody does test positive and you know how long they're going to have to go into quarantine and all of those other things when they can be allowed back around the team. They have the pet test negative twice. So there's a lot of stuff that's going on behind the scenes that we don't see but I just think that when you combine like like what the Andre Baker just did and what Blake's now is talking about you just like. Are these guys aware what the hell is happening in the world or they just in their little bubbles not even paying attention anything that's happening around them? Yeah it was. It was weird to me for Blake. Snell to claim that he was really worried about his health. Input risk in my life and and the Rona and what happens and all these things but then also was talking about money. The way that he was that it was a certain number. If you were to get his none of that stuff would matter I said until he goes. I already took a cut. So yeah well you took a cut at least you got paid for not playing Michigan. Something right but he was throwing around that health stuff in my opinion to find a way to get all of his money not because he was really concerned about it. I mean if I was really concerned about losing my life like really legitimately concerned about dying. There wouldn't be a number that I would be okay with like. That's that's a non negotiable thing like if someone says hey I need you to run into that burning building with a blindfold on I will give you eight hundred thousand dollars. I wouldn't be like making a million and I'll do it. No I mean if you're really concerned about losing your life that's non negotiable and Blake's now was making it seem like hey for for a number I'll go out there and put my life on the line. Stop. Come on this is about right exactly but I you know I would also say there are players that have come out and said some really. Good things about you. Know being around older coaches or having a teammates have underlying conditions. So that chart right smart things that you really do have to think about and those are the right things to be talking about but when you get into a situation like Major League baseball finds itself right now and let's face it the media ramps it up. The media goes from one person to another person and ask that person about what this person said about the money and all this other stuff it just kind. Of Inflames the entire situation. And that's why we all are talking about money because we all know what this comes down to shores all comes down to is. How much are the players to play for that? That's the bottom line here. Everybody wants the play. Everybody wants to get a paycheck. The question is how much will that paycheck be? And what percentage of that paycheck are they going to be receiving through the eighty two game short and truncated season boomer and Geo just getting started on this Friday morning on the fan and CBS sports network?.

"That's picking the second round the hundred thirty second pick which was a pick in the fourth round which was their second pick in the fourth round and the hundred forty second pick which was their second pick in the fifth round not a huge amount to give up per the chase Stewart approximate value chart. It's about one hundred forty percent of the thirtieth pick. So I mean, they did pay a premium in the know the amount of picks not the huge to give up. They still have a third of fourth two fifths six to seven which I'm sure they'll probably use again to trade up. So when the giants went back into the first round thirtieth overall, they took de'andre Baker a quarterback firm, Georgia. I am split on this between liking de'andre Baker. As a player and not liking the process of trading. Those picks to move up for him, especially when he was going to be I quarterback taken. I do like the Andre Baker. I do not like the Andre Baker more than greedy Williams or Byron Murphy giants, very clearly do the Baker was the only quarterback taken in the first round. So now they'll be without his second pick. I mean, we talked about how they need a quarterback. I've made the case for a while. I think they should have taken a quarterback in the first round and hit ED's often a waiter in the draft cause I think they'll be better there. And if you can have the coverage to hold up that makes the edge rushing easier than the pass rushing makes it easier to cover think we saw that old lot last year that I just I don't necessarily agree with the trading up to get that, especially when either Baker still could have been there at thirty seven, greedy Williams or Byron Murphy could still be there at. Thirty seven. So I think that's unnecessary use of assets to trade up. So now, I can see the giants or still probably going to use those picks. I can guarantee they're not waiting until ninety six to pick on day two. There's no way they're trading up somewhere. And then that's when you start cutting into those assets, I would have been fine with two first round picks that second round pick and using those four th and Fitz to move into the third and taking some shots. They're taking some shots in the second. I think it's a little unnecessary to get into the end of the first round to get another first round pick. But if we go to Baker, I do like him as a prospect, he's a wiggle undersize compared to you some of the other guys, I think he's about five eleven, but he was he was very good at Georgia to interceptions nine pass breakups proves sports solutions forty three targets forty four point two percent. Completion rate allowed last year, which was one of the better. Embarks among this cornerback class, and we were point zero nine yards per target of out which was the fourth. Best of mung. This cornerback Laso Baker is a good cornerback. It is good that they got him. I just don't necessarily agree with the process that use to get him. Yeah. Acre is good cornerback. You know, he's he's versatile. He has quick feet. He's got loose hips. He can play in manner zone coverage. He is not afraid to hit in is not afraid to hit hard enough to separate the receiver from the ball. And I think the giants traded up hoping they were getting twenty seventeen the Andre Baker when he was a legitimate shutdown corner. Like nobody passed on him in twenty seventeen a bigger was targeted nineteen times. He gave up five completions while breaking up six passes, which is pretty damn good. Yeah. I mean, one to only be targeted nineteen times is good shows. You probably in good coverage to allow only twenty six percent of those passes to be completed is pretty good. So yeah, I like Diaw Diori Baker as a player he did not test, particularly well at the combine only in the nine th percentile per spark the four five one forty widow concerning, but it doesn't write this guy off he still showed he can play. So I think of the three first round picks. The Andrea Baker as the player is the player. I would be most excited about for the giants..

"Offensive line in the lead last year. And they've got to basically bypassed the best front seven pass rushing edge class. We have seen in a long time. Yeah. I think that was bigger at six pick. But again, I think we have to take in the process if they did like, the QB think you take the QB we just don't agree with the Huby and they took because by the time the giants were on the clock at seventeen adjust Allen went to Jacksonville at seven right after giants pit. And that pass rush is going to be ridiculous. Rashawn Gary went wealth to Green Bay Christian Wilkins went thirteenth to Miami of Brian burns who would have like went the pick ahead of the giants at sixteen to Carolina. So when you kind of look at the options they had at the past. I don't think they were totally there to match up at seventeen either. But going with the big run stuffer. I'm not sure that. Value meshes, a there either. Yeah, they Montesquieu. It was still on the board. And we did get the report earlier today that he was possibly perhaps even likely mis-diagnosed at the NFL scouting combine. Now, the giants are very averse to potential red flags. So maybe they just didn't have time to process that they already had him off their board and just didn't have time to process. The fact that maybe their medical report was wrong. They could also looked at Gerry Tillery who is still on the board. They could've looked at Jeffrey Simmons. Who granted it's coming back a tornado yell but even half a season with him is better than nothing. Yeah. I mean Simmons has the injury has the fields domestic violence. And so he talented player. I'm okay with staying away from him. But yeah, seventeen they can put themselves in. He aware. They were was not exactly grateful what they needed even though they needed a quick bit. I mean, even like hundred Dillard could have been I think a better pick there, even though he's only played left tackle if you put him at maybe. Right. Tackle you have someone to fill in at left tackle. Once Nate solder is done. He then goes to the eagles now and the eagles. They already have a better backup left tackle than the giants. Have a starting tackle. So that's great for the NFC east. Seventeenth. Pick was interesting given a what had already gone before them probably what they were looking at. And I just I don't love warrants value there. I'm sure trading back was never an option. It was more likely. They were going to trade up which they did again later in the draft. So the giants ended up with three first round picks because they traded back up into the back end of the first round with the thirtieth over. Hall pit. They got that from Seattle. So in that trade, they gave up the thirty seven picks..

"Facebook's ongoing issues of privacy. See to me and Paul ranting each other about the role of the government and check us out on Tuesdays when I have seen every episode subscriber chace wherever podcasts or served. We'll see. So the draft got off to a quite a start there. I think it was it was pretty chunky until that point. And then we had The Danny Jones pick at number. Six course, the giants had the their second first round pick at number seventeen because of the Odell Beckham trade, and if dinner Jones was a very Dave Gettleman pick seventeenth pick was the most Dave Gettleman pick. I would say how much more Dave pick this event and the answer is none more. Dave Gettleman, really? Play three hundred forty pound at nose tackle that would be Dexter Lawrence from Clemson. I think I have talked about Lawrence. I am not super high on him because he is the prototypical big nose tackle who defends the run fairly. Well, does not give as much pass rush as you would like from the interior for the modern NFL game. But this is the Dave Gettleman does not exactly believe in the modern NFL game. He is very much a run the ball. Stop the run type of guys so awards is not a very surprising pick in the middle of the first round. No I in a vacuum for what he does. I like Dextra Lawrence as a player, he is a very athletic big, man. He moves better than you would expect a three hundred and forty pound tackle to do. However, the giants already have Dalvand Tomlinson who who was about. As good a nose tackle as you could ask for other than Damon Harrison who they traded away. Nobody is in snacks class. It is extremely unlikely that Dexter Lawrence will be snacks class. So I just don't get adding another nose tackle. Because BJ hill has experienced at nose tackle, he isn't as big. But he is a very powerful player. And he actually does give you some one gap penetration ability. And I think the the Damon Harrison thing is it kind of makes sense for for Dexter gorens to be worth this pick. I think he has to be a Damon Harrison because he does not give you enough from the passing game. He headed a decent pressure rate actually per sports influence, but when you think when you look at them, it's a lot of just being a gigantic human that causes that. And I don't think that's going to play as well in the NFL. And then you look at some of his his. Suction numbers for a gigantic run stuffer. He did not stuff the run very often. You we had thirteen run stuff's of west year. And that is below all over wet seventeen and a half that's below Christian Wilkins on the same Clemson defensive line at sixteen and a half Jerry Tillery had twelve and a half who went a little later, but has more pass rush. Upside guy Quin Williams had twenty five run stuff. So obviously, no one was expecting or warrants to be Williams before a gigantic run stuffer. You would expect him to possibly stuff the run a little more. But he didn't. And so I think that has to develop I think the the pass rush has fellow for him to be worth this pick. I think is just another one where Gettleman saw this gigantic human being. And that is what he likes in football players. I'm just not sure the positional value there. And of course, he doesn't care about positional value either. But the having a run stuffing defensive tackle there. I just I don't see how that helps. No, the giants really need a pass rush almost more than anything on their defense. Now, they also needed help in their secondary which will get to with their next pick. But they have guys who are stout upfront. But they really don't have anybody who is a proven pass rusher. Dexter Lawrence is unlikely to provide that he is very athletic is a gigantic human being. But he also only had I believe four and a half sacks and about ten tackles for loss over the last two years put together right now. The the giants pass rush was responsible without Olympia. Vernon was responsible for three quarters of a sack a game when they weren't playing by far the worst..

"To watch as much tape as you can get your hands on not a quarter of one game. I'm sorry. Not a quarter of an all star game in which the defense is being heavily heavily constricted. That's one thing that doesn't get talked about what the senior bowl is. The defence is basically not allowed to blitz. They're basically locked into a four three cover two defense. The offense knows exactly what they're getting three series from that game to fall in love. Really? Okay. So is he talking about the senior bowl game, which he probably wasn't even at because everyone leaves before the game was talking about the practices, which might be even more suspect. Because remember we talked to Mark Scofield right after the senior bowl and Dado Jones had a rough week of practices. He was a pretty bad in the outdoor early in the week. And then they had that indoor practices the day it rained and Jones was terrible. He threw two picks one on a flat, routed missio Adderley. So I'm not really sure what Gettleman was watching because every report we had from senior bowl week of practices. When most of the people are paying attention is that Jones had a pretty rough week. He ended up being senior bowl MVP in the actual game. And this again third year in a row now that the giants have drafted the senior bowl and the. Yeah. And I'll just say I tweeted this out before we started recording. If the giants wanted a. Six foot five senior bowl MVP. They could have just hung onto Davis Webb and drafted to Sean hand or Shaquille Griffin last year in the fourth round rather than taking Kyle Leta and they could've taken Josh Allen at Oliver this year. I'm just saying, yes. So I mean Gettleman has said these picks don't happen in vacuum. And that is true. Sometimes feels like Gettleman picks and all of his moves do happen in a vacuum. But I think you have to now think of this in the Dave Gettleman era, the two big first round picks are now a running back in again is good saquon Barkley is you can question devalue of running back and now Danielle Jones is so that's that's what they're potentially setting up. The next few years of the giants are those two picks and men when you think like a re go back and think if it could have been a quarterback last year and. And almost any other running back this year. Is that a better option? I think that's possible. That's something. I think we have to think and talk about a little more. "Both of those things were true. He doesn't get any help from that supporting cast. But he also was not good and say don't we kind of want the quarterback too? To elevate his supporting cast if Dan Jones is being compared to a manning, isn't that what you expect from them? Yeah. I think a lot of was from drops. I don't think he was particularly good in leading receivers were throwing the open either. And that's part of it. And I've wrote one of the other things I wrote that the third section of what I thought the giants look for is someone who can transcend the scheme and Dana Jones is not that he's going to be very scheme dependent. He is going to take what is given at best. He has some athleticism. I mean, he will get his game against North Carolina where he ran for one hundred seventy yards. He kind of put the team on his back there. But like that is not a sustainable way to continue to win. And he doesn't have athleticism that is going to allow that to happen in the NFL. You talk about him being an outlier with some of Bill Conley's to six and success rate. And I very much agree with the idea that your college performance is your NFL ceiling, and when you look at what the Conley wrote. None of the quarterbacks he is looked at over the past couple years, however, far back his data goes no quarterback has topped their college production in the NFL and Jones had terrible college production. You can try to write that off because of the supporting cast. But when it is in that big of a sample that quarterbacks do not just get better in the NFL that that is a concern. We talk about outliers Daniel Jones being good at the NFL level would make him a bigger outlier than Cuyler Murray is going to be and that is that's quite a risk at number six it's questionable decision making it's questionable scouting. And who I guess we can get into that part real quick. Because Dave Gettleman we have a little bit of what he said, he's I think he's speaking while we're recording right now his post first round press conference..

"I don't really see it at all either, you know, just sticking with the numbers. Bill Connolly for Espy nation did a preview of the quarterbacks. And he basically said you can based on the available data that we have you can pretty much predict that a quarterback's college metrics are there ceiling for their pro career. Daniel Jones had the worst yards per completion. The second worst adjusted net yards per attempt. The third worst passer rating he had the worst efficiency rating and the the third worst success rating of the quarterbacks that Conley profiled that is very worrying. Yeah. I'm not going to say that Daniel Jones can't be a success because. The giants drafted him to be their future franchise quarterback. I when you take a quarterback at six overall that is what you are drafting him for. But they are betting that a he was extremely handicapped by the players that surrounded him at Duke, basically, his teammates Duke were completely and utterly incompetent. But also they are betting that he is just an extreme outlier and the only quarterback in recent history who will exceed his college ceiling in the NFL when the game is faster. He's going to be asked to process so much more. I believe north of ninety percent of his throws in college were one read either a single passing concept like a smash concept where you just read the cornerback. And it just goes throw him wrong. If he covers a deep route you throw the. Short route of if he covers the short route you throw the deep route or RPO where if a defensive player comes down to defend the run play. You throw the pass. These are just basically quick predetermined reads that he was asked to do on ninety percent of his plays in even in Pat Shurmur offense. He's going to be asked to read the whole field. He's going to be asked to before the snap to safer coverage and figure out whether or not it's going to be man coverage. And then a lot of the times the way the giants offense worked as they would run a man beater on one side in zone beater on the other. And the quarterback was would just throw to whichever concept countered the defense that was being run while Jones isn't going to be told what to throw by giant sign before the snap. So he has to do a lot more just mentally. And that not even leaving aside. The fact that he does not have agreed arm. I arm strength isn't the greatest indicator of future success, but it's not unimportant either you still have to be able to throw outside the numbers who still have to be able to place the ball where the receivers can make a play on it. And hopefully set them up for yards after the catch down the field. And I'm just saying more than ten or fifteen yards down the field. Get it's crazy because so much of that do offense was relying on on the short passes on the post. I wrote for be view about what the giants should look at at their quarterbacks in in some of the things that matter I looked at the percentage of throws that were within ten yards from the line of scrimmage dano Jones through seventy four point five percent of his passes last year within ten yards of the line of scrimmage that was one of the highest rates in this draft class. So then what I did was look at the top quarterbacks in expected points added in the NFL oath at the top ten. They Evers around seventy percent of their throws within ten yards of the line of scrimmage, but what I found from those attend quarterbacks. Who were you know, by expected points added the best quarterbacks in the league last year? Even though seventy percent of their throws happened in that area. Almost all of their value. Came from throws past ten yards past scrimmage, and that's where Jones really struggles. He's not a good intermediate thrower. He is a terrible deep thrower. He has better accuracy than his actual statistics were at Duke because the supporting cast was bad. That is true people are going to use that as something to say about Dan Jones who kind of defendant, but two things can be true. His supporting cast could have been awful, and he also could have been bad..
