How does a child end up in the foster system?

"Does a child get in the foster care system? You know, it can happen at any age. And if there's any form of suspected abuse neglect on physical abuse sexual abuse any harm where a child or another person in the family is unsafe. And someone makes a report then a county social worker will come out and we'll begin the investigation. So it's really based on mandated reporters making a report again, a mandated reporter is someone who suspects any form of abuse. So it doesn't mean you're going to go out and investigate. But if you have any sort of gut feeling where they're suspected abuse your teacher in the kids, not showing up with close or is wearing the same clothes every day to school or maybe doesn't seem like he showered a few times. Or maybe I'm a I'm a mandated reporter, and maybe I'm just hanging out at the park with some friends, and I see some form of physical abuse. Like, I. I do legally have to report that so any form of suspected abuse gets reported to the DCFS department children family services hotline. And then a social worker will go out and investigate if they feel it really is an unsafe situation that child will be removed from the home or children. And so starts the cycle of who knows where they go. What cares taken? Sorry, just to continue like what cares taken when they're kind of plucked from from what they probably feel it feels like what is happening. Yeah. I think they're gonna punished even more abuses home to them. Yeah. Exactly and abuses. All they know. And that's really how they've learned to survive. So unfortunately, not enough like they really are picked up pluck place somewhere else. And some of these kids know the system way too. Well, they know what to say to get hospitalized. They know what to say to move to a different home. And unfortunately, there just isn't enough support Marwood they wanna get hospitalized. There's many reasons, but for example, in my facility, the kids have very strict phone calls. You know, they can't receive a call from their Dodd who's in jail.

"The the child issue was an interesting one so if you if if a woman is married to ah and her partners abusive to her and she goes to prison then department of child the family services dcfs take the kids away and when mom gets out sean scare kits back one of the best things she can do for her case of getting her children back is to file a divorce for divorce because it'll show dcfs that she's not going back to a bad situation and so that that's kind of a another kind of double way of punishing women because now she's going to get punished if she doesn't even if the husband is never hurt the kids you know they can kind of leverage that against her and yeah and some women they said you know just kind of the mental freedom of knowing that when there it's hard enough reentering society yeah can you imagine how much harder that is if you have someone who's trying to control you may be trying to hurt you like on a deal with that you at that off your off your plate and child child visitation issues was another thing i i didn't get to check into this because it was kind of 10 gentle and i would love to do a story about it but i'll i had one layer tommy that certain probate issues if if you happen to be in prison let's say you're an only child in your mother has a home and she died his if you can't get someone to represent you and represent your interests to transfer that property the state gets it yeah so so access this this program i guess to some it up for listeners the do they come into the jails to they bring the court to the jails and to make it easier and see everybody at once in a sense of the different state prisons in the state prisons 'cause people who who has matters in cook county are this is the other thing that a lot of prisonreform advocates say is why do we send people so far sarah wayne from their communities and their families another two hundred miles away and it's expensive no jail prison is gonna have the money or the resources that the logistical capability is to bring you up from logan correctional hino to cook county so.
