"dc comics" Discussed on ToddCast Podcast with Todd Starnes

"This is I'll read here from the website. I was very, this is from one of the writers. I was very aware of the logistics, as well as coming out. It needs to be explained what asexuality feels like, because a lot of people can't imagine it, understanding what it's like for someone who experiences something different than you. Now, most recently, we have had what Tim Drake, who has Robin, the boy wonder, who has come out as bisexual, HBO Max has announced they're producing a new series that features features an openly gay, character called aqua lad. And the new Superman, by the way, has a male lover. So I'm just, I'm curious here. I mean, this is sort of like the Star Trek world. And where you are, your fans, your trekkies, are super loyal to the brand. And I'm wondering about comic books are and they have a huge following and a huge audience. It is a big industry these comic cons you have thousands of people showing up at these things. Tens of thousands. And I'm wondering how they feel that their characters have basically been hijacked by some sort of a sex and gender revolutionary movement. That is no longer about good storytelling. It's about the new cover of the Robin comic book. And we have a photograph of it on our website features Robin embraced with a male lover. Much like Superman. But here's what gets me about all of this, grace, and maybe I'm off kilter here. Isn't the bedrock foundational belief of the LGBT movement that you are born that way. That's what they tell us. You are born that way. That's your true identity. And they're trying to outlaw conversion therapy and all this other stuff. And so if that's true, should that not apply to things like the Boy Scouts and the girl scouts, and DC Comics, as organizations. I mean, when Superman, when the artist created Superman. Do you think that he was thinking, oh, we've got to make Superman gay? No. No, he was straight. That's why it was going out with Lois lane, and not Jimmy Olsen. And Batman and Robin, his youthful ward. Do you really think that? Well, that's a bad example. Okay. Let's talk about no, well, no, no, no, let's just off frame it differently than you did. Okay, 'cause I watched a show with Batman and Robin the other day. I mean, Robin's like, the protege in saving the world. Batman knows he's getting up there, so he's like, I gotta train somebody. All right. Now, Wonder Woman is that batwoman, Wonder Woman somebody's a lesbian. Oh gosh. I know seriously. I think it's batwoman as a lesbian on this EW. Then you've got Aquaman. So again, if all these characters were created straight, were created heterosexual. Who are we to say that they were able to hop to the other side of the fence? Thank you very much. Leap at all building at a single bound if you I'm just wondering. So folks are you concerned about these attacks on the culture because that's what they are attacks on the culture. And now not only can you not set your kid down in front of the TV set and watch Disney or any other TV network. Now you can't even let your kid go down to the drug store or the comic book shop and just spend a fun day like we all used to, reading comic books is just, are you concerned about the culture? What do we do about it? 844-747-8868 that is our toll free telephone number today. 8 four four 747 88 68, our website is Todd's dot com. We have so much great content for you there. Check that out. "Right, our number, by the way, 8 four four 747 88 68, that's our toll free telephone number that's 8 four four 747 88 68. I'm just going to start with a weird story today. We've got so much political news to get to, but I want to start with a crazy story that was sent to us by one of our Liberty University student workers, and we've got it up on our website, Todd stern's dot com. Now, I don't know what's going on over at DC Comics. You know we've been talking about we've been talking about Disney a lot. And we've got some breaking news to share with you about Disney in just a moment. But we've been talking about Disney and how the people that are in charge at Disney are now openly acknowledging. Hey, look, yeah, we are, we are proudly, we are proudly queering everything that Walt Disney created. That is our mission. And they're very open about it. They're loud and proud, if you will. And they are by the end of the day, they are going to have the rainbow flag flying on every single Disney property. That's the goal. The goal is to eliminate heterosexuality at Disney World. That is the ultimate goal. They want it to be an LGBT themed park entertainment company. And you know what? It is their right to do that. Have at it. And if they can, if they can make money doing that, then more power to them. But I appreciate the fact that they came out and actually admitted what we have all suspected all along, which is they were trying to groom children. They are trying to instill in children certain values, values that in many cases are contrary to what mom and dad and grandma and grandpa and the church are instilling in the children. But I appreciate the fact that they were open with us about that. So don't be surprised as Disney takes a turn towards embracing the LGBT movement. Has there ever been, I mean, going back in your time growing up and watching watching the wonderful world of Disney on Sunday, that's what we did as kids, growing up in south haven, Mississippi, we would sit there in front of the TV on Sunday Night and it was before 60 minutes or after 60 minutes I can not remember, but that was so much fun as a kid. And mom whitley has actually eat like a sandwich in front of the TV, and that was a family friendly moment. And those just aren't there anymore. But even going back then, back to those days, I don't recall, and maybe grace baker, you're a little bit younger than I am. But I don't recall Disney really being overly sexual. I mean, you know, you had prince charming kissing, what's so Snow White? And of course, now they're calling that date rape. No, you laugh. No, I mean, so I just don't recall them really like preaching. Oh, you've got to be heterosexual in their storylines. Do you? No, in anything that it was always just kind of funny little romantic quips, but it wasn't anything very descriptive when it was anything remotely sexual. I mean, they're out there. I mean, and again, but now the MO is, we've got to get gay storylines into all the programs. Yes. But they didn't do that with heterosexuality. I just don't recall them ever being anti. Sex was not a part of what Disney was all about. No. Never. Not for me growing up, but it's very different now. Maybe we need to have t-shirts made, like, don't hate it's okay to be straight. Oh gosh. Right? Right? You want to be called out, don't you Todd? I mean, I'm just saying, they've got the shirts, it's okay to be gay. But it seems like in today's society, if you're a heterosexual shame on you. Yeah, that's true. Seriously. It's just mind boggling. So anyway, I was just curious about that grace because I don't recall Disney producing movies where you were teaching children how to have heterosexual sex. No. Or just really any kind of I'm sorry, go ahead. Any kind of relationship, any kind of romantic relationship. It wasn't dating one O one when you watch Disney. I mean, I mean, the only thing that kind of got edgy was lady in the tramp with the noodle. Oh yeah, that was probably the most. But they were dead. But they were canines. So this is true. That's all I can say. So all that to say, we've been telling people for a long time, there is an effort to really take over and destroy American traditions. And we looked at the Boy Scouts. Yes, that's a good example. We looked at public schools. I mean, just think about what public school used to be, where you would learn, you would learn reading and writing and arithmetic, there would be sports and athletics, you would pledge allegiance to the flag, there you would pray. There would be a prayer over the intercom system, and the teachers controlled the classrooms. And now it's just, it's a free for all, and so I would even throw American public education onto that. Yes. As well. That's fair. And now they're going after Disney and they've gone after the girl scouts. Very mannish now, and I just, I stopped doing the cookies, you know what I mean? Why do I want to support that? You know, I can get, I would rather have the little Debbie's over at Kroger. They're overpriced anyway. Little Debbie's? No. The girl scout cookies. That's true. By the way, a little, by the way, you got to get the Swiss rolls, a little Debbie's now, I love those things, and they still call them Swiss rolls. Well, you know what? There's 7th day in Venice to own that company, by the way. So I don't think they're going to be, I don't think they're going to be they're going to be hit by the what about the zebra cakes? Eh, not a big fan. Not a big fan. Not a big fan. Wow. Anyway, we're off on a tangent grapes. We got a bring this so your job is to always bring me back to where but you're taking me off the sorry, I'm hungry today. So now, there is yet another icon. DC Comics gave us Superman. Batman, as you know. Don't mess with my Batman. Well, let me tell you something. Batman may be messing with Robin, allegedly. I'm just saying, according to the new DC Comics, they are now taking beloved superhero characters and their turning them into gay icons. Now, you can say this is a great thing or a bad thing, but it's happening. And the latest is green, there's a new Green Arrow. I have not read comic books in a long time, so I guess these guys have gotten married, and they've started having kids. Yes. And so Green Arrow had a son named Connor hawke, who was the new Green Arrow, and according to CBR, which is a comic book website. The new Green Arrow is going to identify as asexual. Why though? I just don't understand why. I think they're just running out of storylines. Well, according to CBR dot com and.

DC Comics Reveals Latest Superman as Bisexual in New Issue

"And now they've done it with this Superman franchise. I posted this yesterday. Turned my Instagram on fire. The image. Of Superman in a Homer sexual kiss. Because DC Comics, I guess they don't want to sell colleagues. And now the new Superman the son of kal el is going to come out as gay or as Jeff pointed out, I guess he's by, right? Whatever. Who cares? But here's the bottom line. This is beautiful. Help me to balance his riding this one up. I zaki poo. Are you typing? How many homosexuals how many gay people are there in society? 1% one and a half percent. Let's be generous. Let's double it. 3%. 3% of America gay. And the gay people I know, they don't rub it in your face. It's just a thing they do. It's private. It's not a gender, they got a ram in your face. Say, look, this is me. It's the radical fraction of that 2%. The loud screamers. The identity politics harridans. So why are you trying to placate a fraction of 2%?

Your Kids Aren't Safe Consuming Tom Taylor's Comic Work

"You've never heard of Tom Taylor either Tom Taylor is a writer for the new Superman comic book To new Superman comic book And he's very proud of what they're going to be doing with Superman now Isn't Superman Marvel Comics are my wrong about that D.C. I'm sorry DC Comics That wouldn't be marvel That's right And I think what this will demonstrate is your kids aren't safe watching anything They're reading anything You got to be very careful what you introduce them to The sky Tom Taylor is on CNN Why Because CNN likes what he's going to do What's he going to do Well let's listen Here's Tom Taylor Cut 18 go And I think the first question I had to ask myself was what does Superman what should Superman represent today And you said man if you're going to make a new Superman what should that look like And it struck me as it would be a real opportunity lost if we had another We had clock Kent replaced by another straight white savior So here was an opportunity to create a Superman who could represent a whole new group of people And I think that was one that we had to leave them And we'll be addressing modern day issues like The climate crisis like refugees John in the last issue has just been arrested attending a protest trying to stop the refound of asylum seekers He kept us 45 minutes of hard time is how he puts it But as a stand it's a very powerful thing Is it Superman going to be bisexual did I hear that too mister

Podcast Marketing: Turn your podcast listeners into an army of promoters

"Let's talk about a few tips and strategies to use word of mouth marketing for your podcasts. The first is to create something buzz worthy so the thing about word of mouth marketing is it needs to be organic so people are going to be talking about it. You actually want them to want to talk about it so here. Few ways to make your podcasts. More buzz worthy. The first way is create amazing content. So you wanna have a podcast. That sounds amazing. it's easy to follow. The has some sort of structure and flow. That's actually worth engaging. The second thing you want to do is niche down. This creates a more unique podcast. So instead of maybe having podcast simply about all comic books i've ever existed. Maybe you pick. Dc comic books over marvel comic books in that is helpful. Because when someone falls in love with your podcasts about this specific thing immediately have someone in mind that they would want to share that with also love your podcast and then the last thing is don't be afraid to bring your entire self your entire personality to the space because nobody can replace you. And there's something unique about the flavor of you that people will be drawn to as they listen to your podcast. The second strategy for using word of mouth as a marketing tool is to reward and encourage conversation right so word of mouth should be an organic conversation that people are engaging and because they want to. So how do we get them to want to well. The first thing you can do is provide incentive for them sharing on social so if you get tagged in a picture that a listener posts about them listening to the podcast engaged in iraq like it. You can share it in your stories that way. They feel as if they are participating in the podcast experience with you and they'll be more likely to continue to do that. But also on their followers are now aware of your podcast and that to interact with your listeners. At that level you can also ask them to provide reviews. They can review your podcast on apple podcasts and that works social proof as well and people are checking out your podcast they see. Oh sara love this podcast. I might leave it to the last thing you can do in the call of action of your podcast at the outer space is asking people to share it. And you don't want to be generic you want to be super specific so if you know someone else who loves dragon ball z and likes to nerd out about that. Share this podcast episode with the goal of being super specific in niching down in that way to bring to mind a specific person or people to the listeners. Mind so that they immediately go and share your podcast episode with whoever they think would also enjoyed dragon ball z.

"The nexia get here and technically the lesson ricky here for these year is we see everybody laid out you know we. We see kind of knocked out unconscious everywhere. But then we see batman standing over The joker who had just come to yup and that is where your five in so it looks like it has been a success. The only hiccup with the success was that not only did they bring over the justice league but they also brought over some of the bad guys as well yes so which makes sense beginning of the game. Actually one of the first things that you do is you are the joker. And you run into harley quinn. And she's like. You're not mr j mr jays died. You know you're some other imposture which also makes more sense now that she's ran across like so fantasizing well-being joker or whatever so. Yeah and then. That's kind of where the game picks up joker kinda like takes hold of the legion of the joker resistance and Yeah so it makes sense. It ties in like the transition from book to game is pretty seamless. And that's that's pretty well done but that was there when they wrote this year rather than telling us a strong awesome story with with fights that lead to something instead we get a year. That had like i've mentioned before funneled. Its way into becoming the prequel for the game. Yeah and it's like i like. What are you going to do. You know it was a fun you to read like the bizarro stuff was awesome. Bizarro may have stolen the year. i mean i'll be. It was kind of pointless in the end lead to anything. Oh just like what was the other thing. Napping cyborg that the days led to nothing to key levin board that whole planning lead anything with hawk. Man didn't lead to anything. I mean bain. Frost we work for the regime and then just do nothing.

That's that's that's the opposite side over this the negative impact of Of being like the hartfield compensation you know is usually do shit like that but Yes this kind of the flassbeck we get. There is berry in irish. Essentially talking about what superman is done and how ours doesn't want berry to ever do anything like that and now fast four or five years later of course berries working with superman yup man. Sometimes i really do wish that That that the team who made injustice mortal combat i do another studios jewish that nether realm may be consulted. Some people dc to put their story together. Yeah just because the more you think about. It doesn't make any sense for berry to be a part of this team. No no the thing that makes sense to me. And this is why. I told myself as as i realized it in reading your five. This book wasn't allowed to have the big moment because the game had a big game had to sell and this story had to have the redeeming qualify moments. Whenever you see superman encrypt tony. In cuffs win finally begins to crumble and fall win the good guys come back to their fucking senses in berries like he has come to assist moments in this chapter and the author brian alway. He's not allowed to be a good guy again. Get fucked still. Got be the moments right here and i could just go ahead and do it but i can't because my hands are tied. Yeah it's it's unfortunate is and that's kinda like the damning side of working working with another production especially with another production ads of the entirely different medium of entertainment in this case video games it's counterproductive in the.

I did want to go and everybody time to do it. But i did want to go and look and comics days and i wonder if there was any particular issue in detail of comics that came out because i think that average birthday was like nineteen forty four. I want to say. And then. I was like i wonder like if detective comics had anything. Come out like all the sixteenth of that year. And i never bothered to look would have been would have been interesting but anyway so we've talked around it but Superman does go to visit effort. Visit us a nice word. He goes to intimidate and strong arm information. Bully him. Yeah and having none of it like get the forgotten. My house and i'm going to bed. I'm going to bid. Yeah and we super man's eyes light up but he doesn't do doesn't straight up murder after he murdered those joker underground members right instead. He goes to sin- stroh who is overseeing. The new prison being built. Because i do like by the way how this year star assaulted superman brooding because plastic man. Doing all the shit i had do. What am i supposed to do all over again. This is going places buddy. Oh we're going. I mean you're going to keep talking on this mike for now that's about it. I guess after this. I don't know you're going to bed but you go on places. I've been all these places before you ready for this tomorrow. Going work shit and and yeah just get sad said squirrel. Oh man So the next thing we get here is the this is a part of the booth actually did enjoy The joker underground so bad woman. She gets wealth of this This underground group and she's able to infiltrated and she breaks in and she finds a group a large group of people in this very building who call themselves joker underground and essentially these guys. Are they They bomohs joker or the view. The joker maybe idea ties but almost view him as a prophet of source because if you his his death as a sacrifice they look at him as if he was a martyr. Psychopathic killers right. Yeah who who. He was the bomb the c. Four that blew up the world and they're looking at it like oh thank heavens. We still had the jokers example. I wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait what you aren't. Yeah see. here's was great about this. Is i want to keep this in mind. This is like four to five years after you know. The joker took superman life away from him. This is four to five years later. That's all the time it took for people to misconstrue history in such a way that now this albeit small group of people view. The joker like you put it as a martyr. Yeah it's that's all the time it took for them to build a golden calf outta him. Yeah yeah the joker wherever he is he's eleven it. These people know a hero when they see one. Oh boy and of course There and actually do like her reasoning for being here and that is like she's like she basically has the mindset of. I want to see what these people are all about that they have the fucking audacity to view this man as a martyr similar to be your shipped..

I missed that you one want to give more emphasis to would definitely segue into it so whatever you know bomb as 'cause there's there's so much i wanna make fun of so and there's a lot also compliment and and you give flowers to but will come across that as we do absolutely so we'll pick up here with your five so the first big event happening in this year is a oh see. This is why this taking notice. Your phone can be bad because autocorrect hours. Like who the fuck is banned is supposed to be banned but my phone to band. Which are we talking like. Oh man i was about making a really white joke for q guys. I was about to say like oh. You're talking about maybe some know matchbox twenty or some. Shit it was. I might as well just said like flip lighter seventeen clever. I'm proud of you. Know the first not bad have here is doomsday coming out of nowhere and i mean i the book basically i mean the year basically starts with that doomsday hurling towards earth. Yeah and in the back of my mind reading this. I am begging comic book. God's to provide me with the reason as to why doomsday is coming to them like. Give me anything. Say that somehow dark side wanted revenge. He was able to to send die. Advocate excited by. Give me jesus. Christ did you fart man. Oh shit. i'm sorry. I'm over here having a moment and then i got my drink over here. That's it was rancid. God damn i lost all my concentration. She switching sides of the table goods. Oh shit okay okay. Sorry homeys a man who saying day and a half years of doing this. I don't ever recall you. Let loose a fucking grenade. Just shut out that. That was like a mercy mustard gas. Oh that's it. yeah. I'm moving to the daghma pointed here. Oh we're we're okay. Yeah doomsday out there right now. Like what the fuck don't they this anyway but yeah so doomsday. He literally comes out of nowhere and that was hoping and praying that. It'd be some kind of reasoning as to why doomsday is here. There is not just shows up. He's literally he's the definition of a bad dylan. Old school villain. Who's like his entire purpose is just to thwart the good guys. And that's it. There's there's no plot. He has no story for himself. He just comes in and says killed superman. We just love killing superman. Yeah almost in the same voice. Thankfully not not not the awful. That would be some horrible voice acting for gay but anyways yes doomsday comes out of nowhere and that rep from the get-go that's kind of threw me off because again there's no split nation forward. He's just here. There's no reason as the reason for him to be here for the fact that the writer wanted doomsday to be in the story and do say was in the game so go. Yeah so again going back to the whole thing about this. Being unfair for. Brian guess who had to find a way to rope doomsday in the shed. And i don't know about years. Know four or five and ground zero. But i do know that when this book started. There was a very quick turnaround. Because i think because it was a digital comic and because they wanted to keep a certain pace that like the turnaround time to get. This done was extremely quick like unfairly..

"One of the things he does is he goes up the kilowatt and he's like a is me. I'm a friend. I need some help. What do they keep the superpower villas in this place at and how to get to them and kilowatt without missing a beat goes. Well you need a distraction of some sort and plastic mangoes. Can you provide one for me. And the killer goes you got it and And kilowatt dog. He gives up. He goes over to bain. And i knew i need to remember what he says. Yeah kilowatt says. I don't know how to probably insult your mother in your language so head but it was great so cool walk. Picks a fight with bane and starts this giant brawl. That gives plastic mandate distraction to sneak into Into the facility defined where your son is being hidden beautiful He's able to get out of there he doesn't give him a ring. Oh no he He does release all the terrains but he didn't give kilowatt yet. he will get a son. Did anything okay But he's able to get his son and by opening the door to his To his son sell it opens up the doors for all the other super villains. So you've got guys like killer croc killer frost and so everyone's now free will free within the rams over trench superman in his team. Make a beeline for For the trench revealed that metamorphose was actually the the war in which the puck and choice. That's what's more Then at this point this will be revealed. That plastic man lists loose all the rings. and then we get something really fucking. Tragic semestral is width superman. And when he sees the those green lantern rings have been set free strode definitely Reaction emotionally and as soon as our boy kilowatt guests. That fucking ring. He gets shot by a stroke but in doing so tonight penetrates the barrier of the trench. And so now this facility that is buried so deep underwater yes now going to flood and it's gonna kill one in here. I'm happy to see somebody. Land survive including some famous ones. Yeah this guy who's like for him fish. He looks like he'll be fine just like water comes in. Oh i was just another day this the more part buried but yeah that's tomorrow. See of thin sir okay. Fish have beaks. Savage dragon has a fan like that and he can't swim like that. get out. go to bed dammit. go to bed well. It is almost my bedtime. So maybe is past my bedtime her. We'll wrap this up. I love the conclusion to the story. Plastic man of course has the capacity to hold Like the flood at baylor cracking the wall. This is an impressive resume. Peace for plastic man. He was able to bend his self to disguise. As what was that the flash earlier. Yeah that's awesome. Yeah and point Tom tilley goes so in depth. We get lucky. Inner monologue of plastic man. He goes the hardest thing about taking. Someone's identity is is manipulating my vocal chords court. So that they matched that of the person So like even when he shaped shields. He changes his vocal chords shape so that they can sound like the person he's imitating s hard to imagine. Yeah and he's like. Because i hang around barry so much i think i can get it. S fucking awesome But what about this conclusion. Is that He he does bring a device that opens up a way out of the trench and he goes to his son and His sons able to kind of round up everyone else. Who's alive and kind of get them out of there. And then it's honest like dad come with me and plus manage like..

"Yeah someone who thinks that the way to spend upon the character is by. Just putting him in crazies amy kooky situations to have him get out of them and showing that he's he's crazy he's got a good heart like is very blase has been done a million times with the care too and it's not entertaining now. The reason i mentioned airport here in this in that case that i think is even more grease with harley quinn. Because she literally doesn't have the power of deadpool yes she's put in very similar situations and she's oftentimes has written just as lazily. Deadpool is where they don't put a whole lot of emphasis on a character. I'm gonna recommend one more book home. East read carleen. That is has down the best harley quinn. Ever written charleena's is is amazing is Is probably my top five books. I read last year That's how good i think the book is. Didn't you buy that book tomorrow. It's in europe. It was written and drawn by stephen sedgwick. Because dc blackley will book is more for wasn't as an orange door for harley quinn That shows you how she got to be where she is. And it's an amazing character. Study can't recommend the book enough so if you want a good holly store a great holiday. Quanta story pickup arlene. That would be a healthy way to kind of like differentiate between something like that where it's like oh look quality in-depth awesome story versus this. Yeah like placeholder story right or hill even go back and reread justice us one through three like she was handled so much better. They're also yes. Yeah also that makes no sense because we're talking about justice. Yeah yeah. I was this close. Did you get a chance to read the The zero for this I didn't finish it. i didn't finish. I started it and realized. Oh this this isn't the same. Oh this is oh. This is a different bonus. Type thing okay. Okay so i didn't go into it but Yeah so the trench a of things note about this is that.

"Also. Let's talk about this. This page resembles a problem. The book has the book cannot decide on a time line. And there's times that plays well. There's times where it's kind distracting and it detracts from the attention given to the main story. Is it a major thing. No is it a bother something yes. Is there a way to do it better. I'm not sure. I'm just noticing that happens so much here versus in the other writings and so this is evident to me. Now that there was a different writer involved and that that makes all the sense to me. Now because i don't recall the other years ever going this season quentin tarantino all the time. Line telling this now pass now this now. Pass now past again this like. Yeah so there is. Some flashback work. That's being done here and this particular exploiting the clone little bit. Yeah didn't have to happen now. It could have happened more. You're five and we get to the call exactly. Yeah yeah you don't have to do your pre game setup here there's time for the pre-game still right now. We're in the middle of like you know. Yeah the climax of this year. So i agreed it doesn't blue gratuitous here i think you i think just getting the shot of lex working on the cone and then of course the money shot of the clone and that would have been it and i would have been like. Oh shit. is this some coop zoro at on action with a full year. But there's a couple of other moments like that and predescessor parts that we have our passed. But we're not going back this no going back. New quarterback that men's brow holy fuck his browse more prominent the mind so there is a brief pause in the action. The god shore because holy shit. There's no first. I i love the other guys as reactions. Like i'm sorry. Those are real those and feel like a live like damian Flashing cyborg like they're like One of them says. Did you know that That she was the daughter of the nope. Yep what does this mean for justice league. I'll tell you what it means. It means that these guys were missionaries unto themselves. And that these guys were all converted. They all became believers of greek no longer mythology but just plain plano theology. So they hadn't even more so the fact they took a bit out of it and it's like okay this is it. This is.

Oh shit all right the good chair but no-one interfere but then of course doing that causes a jibe bra a giant malay because one woman kambli that batman was smart enough to do that best batman originally was talking about. How like the one thing that we need is something negate their own superpower. We don't have anyone with that here. So i owe turn their own power against them. One woman against us all this works yeah. Great plan was playing But then of course. Zeus himself comes down and he's like all right enough of this shit. Zoos one watched the fire. I'm bora mountain limpets. Oh wait what's that is. This is the equivalent of ordering the fight in the goddamn stream keeps coming in and out so you call the cable company like joe. Espn plus a play sixty Sixty nine dollars for this shit. Get it together. Damn is how had much the card cost like holy depends on. Who's fighting. yeah loud them can be expensive can be upwards of seventy dollars sixty seventy dollars. Yeah so zeus comes down. And i like how powerful. The gods are agreed. Yeah particularly zeus. I mean he is. Yeah they call him the all father omnipresent. He needs to be he needs to feel as such. I feel like The artistry here does a great job of that. Oh yeah i just. Every time i look at these magic of god three. You literally pummeled to death until the blood of zeus covers up the camera. And you can't even see anything anymore. his can gruesome Anyways the combat does start and between one woman is superman because zeus like you will abide by the rules. Like you've caught up on my holy name to do this dual you're gonna do it. I want to watch good money on this ship. Paid for this kardam it so the to go at man this is a great fight is a really great fighting this brutal man. Like you think that you would It's kinda like a if you play fighting with like a younger sibling or something like when kids and then it quickly escalates like you go from play fighting with your buds sudden throwing full fucking haymakers. Now yeah and we've all been for those of us who have brothers older or younger. You know what we're talking about is going to happen Then man after a while they'd amazonean blow comes out of one woman and she just against the later on superman and And she his arm almost got about that. Yeah it was a pretty gruesome but was interesting years. That superman while he's fighting hard. He's not to get his full capacity. he never does. he's always so one punch mad about it. You know i mean. 'cause i mean you don't wanna kill like your lieutenant. Yeah yeah but his prior also won't let him semitic because they would also cost him. He batman and batman is probably just smile. Like yeah bitch give up. Yeah tap out tip out but what is happening. Here is dan it. Looks like clark is going to be put down and the investment. Oh we'll get into some juice or in her case some some drugs and now at this point when she ambushes cyborg and damian Those who are just kind of out in the pub walking through a park. Damian's is it is important. No here it has been a huge forest. So it's been somewhere between three and four years since this all kicked off damian's older now. He looks older. He's got to be like fifteen maybe sixteen now and and he looks. You can't keep them for everyone. And but he is still a little shit he still little asshole who Has issues emphasis on all the above but rename on toya jumps. She wants the cameras on her to call for superman. She wants to end this shit here now. She just what she wants. You want it to are extremely great. you three like you said earlier this year the magic This will be oriented used to play on. Constantine and mr mixes piddle lick are bar brought to the table. And there's a lot of really cool a battle and circumstances that are ensued there and when your three ends are heroes was our heroes team batman um they are essentially in hiding right now and they've lost a lot of people and it is also important to note that at this point in the battle team batmans essentially doesn't have any real superpowers people on their team. Yep and so all of the power players still with team superman. Yes must say. 'cause team superman is of course himself which is a lot power wonder woman which is next to him. Fuck empower the flash. That's arguably more power than superman but not tonight's episode Zam who was also exactly godly. He's he's yes. Yeah cyborg which is fair. yeah he's the internet internet. Yes of course you do have one. Turn code being lex luthor india. And you know. I i gotta be honest guy so i have not read the entirety of injustice yet. But i do worry luthor. Yeah no same here because he is playing a dangerous game tallest tower. I would say you know. I wonder like we know that superman if he had their paternity at this point He would at least capture bruce. Probably kill them to be done with that. Yeah yeah but if you were to find out that in this universe luthor who was his his second best friend besides bruce right was a turncoat. That would i don't like what would that do she gets. The homeys at the literal fucking year have found decided to continue the saga that is injustice yet. Yeah so last year. Actually the end of last march. We started reviewing the injustice series. We did years one two and three all with their own separate episodes and that went started to be at the end of march and ran through a to the end of april. Space them out every other week. So if you guys are familiar with injustice or if you haven't heard i- reviews for the first three years of injustice you can check those out in the catalog if you literally go back a year you'll see those But now we are here to continue with picking your four. Yes maybe a curious as to why such a long overlay. Because i know a lot of you guys wanted us to continue within. Well the reason being is because I'm fucking completion. Est and while i could have gotten years four and five in trade paperback format. I wanted to wait until dc released the omnibus For the remaining years. So that's what i decided to do. And then from there it was just a matter of planning out. Went to release the episodes. So you're and it makes sense. I mean the omni definitely looks great. Is Zach Snyder's 'Justice League' a Good Movie?

"The very controversial for so many reasons for content reasons for formatting reasons i saw so many memes about the fact that it was reformatted. Four three zack zack. Snyder's justice league has officially dropped. We say dropped on the internet right. It's not like premiering a movie theater. It's just dropping on on. Streamers is fishy dropped on hbo. Max there's a complicated back story where zacks under had to leave mid production because of a family tragedy which is very sad judd app not try that patel just we took over just we apparently was a total asshole and there were all sorts of lawsuits. About what a dickey was and then you know. The film by many fans was not felt to reflects what zach snyder intended and there was long discussion of a zacks undercut image. Peo- max put in seventy million dollars to shoot a whole bunch more footage to make the zack snyder. Cut of justice league. Come out for years later. This is an interesting story because it is different. From a lot of directors cut stories. A lot of directors cut stories are ten years later. I'm grateful the studio give me access to the archive to rescan the negative and re-cut it is very rare in fact i can't think of an example where someone's like four years later. I got an extra seventy five million dollars to shoot additional footage to make an alternate movie like it is. Is there another example. That are missing where somebody got that. I don't know but what i do know. Is that in the history of film. There have been many many many directors cuts and extended editions and versions. That were revisited. We've talked about some of them here before. And most of our audience familiar with many of them It is not unheard of obviously for there to be something that prevents the original vision to be completed by the person who had it. And obviously there are many instances where somebody could go back and try and piece things together. Only orson welles. A number of times We even talked to. I talked to walter merch about going back in and recruiting and working on touch of evil. There are the magnificent emerson's with him as well. I think he's one of the early versions. Were early famous versions but bladerunner famously for anybody mir charles age And so much inbetween. It's such a common story but this one does stand apart because yeah he was given basically a massive feature film budget to make more of it his version of it and it is an interesting thing like will this happen more often. Will we get criminal. And saying actually i want to shoot a whole different ending too dark dark knight rises fifteen years later. Because i've rethought it. And i wanna go into a very complicated sort of relationship between the artists and the work when you remove the theatrical premiere and when you open up the idea of shooting original additional footage it is a it's vastly different so Full disclosure wasn't able to finish it have a two year olds. Get very sleepy very easily. Don't have four hours with two year. Old where i can watch the whole thing but universally in my social media of the people in my life everyone i know seems to have really enjoyed the new cup more than the last cut. I do not understand why people hate on sex neither so much. I genuinely enjoyed his dawn of the dead. I thought it was solid. I also am a like. I wanted to get into movies. Originally to make watchmen. When i was nice school. I don't hate his watchman. Cut like everyone else does. I don't understand whether so mad about it. I think people to hate sex. Neither for some reason that does not make sense to me. I'll also disclosed and then michelle. I know michelle is actually watched both right but so i have watched the new one. I watched the snyder cut. I did it. I made it through. Well di i not a big comic book movie fan. In general i have seen many of them though. And i did not see the original justice league so i had to do some research on what changed which was really interesting to me. I also actually really think highly of him from a visual standpoint. I find that even when he's not like a lot of the movies directed this one included. The material is just not great in my opinion but he's visually so committed to the bit that he does that his sequences really worked for me. And i think he's a great comic book movie director choice. Because i think he's really. His camera is like ballot. Check i think his action sequences are visually compelling. And i think his approach like to me the thing that felt the weakest about this. I mean obviously the some some major casting problems major script problems but all that aside i think it it mimicked. Some of what marvel does too much sometimes which i don't really like. They're some straight up. Like this is just an avenger. Seen but not as good. And i don't really love what it was in the first place personally but all my my personal take aside. I think filmmakers He is just he really doesn't. He's earnest he's not tongue in cheek and sometimes it gets a little silly and you might laugh. But i think his earnest approach to how dramatic he is with his camera like from dawn of the dead to the three hundred to a and tackling real quick charles before michelle I think that warner brothers is known to have some really tight released times. They don't have the same war chest that disney does for like they. They set these release dates. They they have to make them. I'm not going to get into the wise. And if sets really true but and that puts a lot of pressure on finishing something and delivering something. And i think that some of the the flaws in some of these dc comic book movies have to do with some of that some of us so anyway onto you. Michelle i f Well done on watching. The center is a endeavor. I i think i knew what the runtime was. But it doesn't click in my head until i was watching and the timeline at the bottom. It has like how long you've watched. And i miss read it. I thought it was much like when it said two and a half hours at the bottom. I thought that was a total Not they meant time that i had laughed and that was quite a surprise. So it's long. Don't don't kid yourself jack. Knifed mini series has parts could have been released in parts. My first input. If you will is i feel like i. Keep reading the quote snyder cut. That snyder wouldn't release in two thousand seventeen and i would argue that. I don't know this is i. Don't think this is at all what would have been released for so many reasons. It's a it's a post weeden post tragedy post. Hbo max snyder display. I don't think we would be able to release a for. I could be wrong. A four hour epic in a theater in twenty seventeen. I don't obviously say that. There are many teaser. There are changes are subtle there. Some people have pointed them out and in terms of very subtle and different. Like stolen changes. That i think are in there now. For example there's a billboard others billboard in the city at some point in the messages you're not alone and a lot of people have guessed that something that snyder put in in reference to his daughter. Like these little things that have been put in log away 'cause post years of reflection on it and i just don't think not content aside just the run time. I'm not sure how many people really yes for hours within a theatre. Let's do it. I don't know if we the same. i do. Think a really interesting experiment if anyone ever wants to ever play with this idea of same footage different story concept of how to edit something together. Because i started watching the josh sweden version the same evening. Don't do this same evening through off after watching case for a minute i thought you were. You said you meant side by side like you had to i. Four by three setup does allow you. I will say to have it on the side of my screen. As i was like doing some work so i will say the former three at least helpful in the arrangements of your browser window because like i'm not cutting anything off because it's not a letterbox or other format so the four by three is is is makes it easier to have the size. No i tried watching the conversion right. After some of the scenes giving away some of the scenes that feel pivotal in the story. Line are like thrown in the credits. The opening like oh i get with. This is going to do you. I don't know if i can sit through

2020 Fall Movie Preview

"Hi everybody I am Peter Travers and welcome to this special edition of Popcorn where creed you all the movies opening between Labor Day and New Year's Eve I know wait what aren't we in a pandemic Will really be moved this fall and theaters to show them in I mean the answer to both those questions is a huge. Yes. Sixty two percent of all US theaters are open now and there's going to be more to come covid permitting, of course, and those movies that can't make it to the multiplex will be available for rental or streaming in sickness and in health people, you can't keep a good movie down. So let's start with the blockbusters that are out there. Number one is tenant. Brain Teasing epoch from Dark Knight Director. Christopher. Nolan. That's geared to fire up the fall season and in theaters and with your mask and distancing in place you can strap in for this kind of Christopher Nolan throw ride and watch the spy master he's played by John David Washington give James Bond a run for his money you know you just have to. Get your head around the physics in this movie. Maybe don't know about how you can go forward and backwards in time at the same time I don't know either I was a little confused by that but you'll be glued to the visual miracles that are on screen here every cent of tenants two, hundred, million dollars production budget shows up onscreen Eisele popped. Jaw dropped pulses. Oh, pound all that good stuff movies and back baby. So what else do we have? We have Moulin which is out there right now and you'll check in Disney plus to watch this because it's not in theaters but you can rent it and you could see live action film of the Disney animated hit about a young woman who disguises. Herself as a man to replace her sick father in the Imperial Army the new moon is not musical and there's no comic relief from eating Murphy as the Voice of a fast talking dragon named Moo Shu. This is not that kind of movie. There's no whitewashing but using Western actors in the drawn from Chinese legend and as Rouland the astounding Lou ye. Leads in Asian cast that includes martial arts icon jet. Li is the emperor up and China's leading actress Gong Li as shape shifting witch who teaches on how to survive and prosper in a man's world. Look move on is not your typical princess. She's a warrior fighting for her place in the world prepare to be well. Next up wonder woman one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, four, the sequel to the two thousand seventeen smash that made a star of Gal. Gadot, remember her places the DC comics immortal wonder woman into the cold. War where she does battle with the media tycoon played by Pedro Pascal and the villainous Cheetah played by Kristen Wiig always to me an asset in any movie Chris. Pine also returns Steve Trevor The American. Pilot that one woman loves I know didn't he die the last time during World War? One people you gotta go with this this is Hollywood. So if we can borrow wonder woman's last sube truth for a moment, credibility isn't the issue here. It's the show stopping stunts engineered by returning director Petty Jenkins executed by Godot, and she's a formal Israeli military structure. So you know you're in for a really good time. Next up is black widow look wonder woman has competition already. You know we've been waiting since spring for Marvel to let its first solo black widow epic out of storage and into theaters. Now, the wait is over Scarlett. Johansson is back in action as Natasha Romanoff Aka black widow. She's the Russian assassin with no superpowers road just skills she's like the female Batman this Prequel looks back, Arjun story in it's a doozie forints pugh is there as Natasha, surrogate says sister and Rachel Vice is the leader of this black widow organization. Everything we know about The Rock's antihero movie 'Black Adam'

"Okay, So the rock, right? I'm already interested. No, right. This is I mean, this is dark too. I think and quote unquote heavy. So are you familiar with black Adam? I am not so black. Adam is a fictional character who appears in the DC comics. And I guess he first appeared as a one time villain. For the first issue of the Marvel family comic book in like 1945, but Black Adam was revived. Ah has a recurring character. After D C comics first licensed and then acquired faucet characters, blah, blah, blah. Then it just goes, they begin publishing what was the captain? Marvel family stories? And she exam so it goes back to all of that, and he was a corrupted ancient Egyptian predecessor of Captain Marvel. Okay? So black, Adam fought his way to modern times to challenge the hero and his Marvel Family associates. But now he's been redefined by DC comics writers. And so he is going to be black Adam, who is ranked as whose I G n Idea. It's like a movie website. OK, 16th greatest comic book villains of all time. So so he's going to be a villian. Interesting. Well, you know what in wrestling fans will remember this aboutthe rock? He plays a great A great villain because he was hell for many years, meaning like a bad guy, okay? And and he was fantastic as a hell still likeable, Which makes him sort of like an anti hero, but but really, really good. So So if you're having trouble thinking, we'll wait. The rock is always so winsome and always the good guy. He could play the bad guy in a way that there will be some people rooting for the bad guy sort of not Not in the same way in terms of what the performance will be like. But you know, Heath Ledger's turn. Is the Joker in the Dark knight. You're You're like you want another joker senior, like, Bring back the Joker. I want to see Joker get ultimately you're hoping for good to win out. But I wonder if the rock as a quote unquote villain will have

Just burned to the ground or plug us on kickstarter so we can say these comics. Or? Going to sell it you'd have you'd have an easier time trained by Archie Comics Lois. No Sir, they are very small company. No I know that. But they're not owned by anyone who wouldn't sell them. They actually have a plan. Comet that's what it feels like. Drive I. Don't know if they don't WanNa deal with it anymore. The price down, twenty Back like they don't want to deal with it anymore. They gave them the right offer Disney. Disney early hope. Disney owns a superhero line. Why would he the second one? Look how much much Much money on endgame. Now imagine you do another city? Just. Look how look how popular civil war was now is just marvel characters. Now imagine a more civil war marvel versus DC. Okay but five billion dollars at the box office. I kind of that. I have there's a question whether or not box office is even thing that anyone is looking to the Disney, a company of futurists how much they look the idea of As a concept. Halo home saying is they have recently looked like future because they've made a lot of very slow. Beginning with good a wall in. They're still stillborn. Some people are the I mean they own. One act like they're too cool for school. But when you get into billions, they're all painted all they're paying attention Charlie Dylan, you billions. Yeah. There I'm not saying they're not paying attention. I'm just saying you know he's very good about their breeding. Winter and they're. And they're and they're good at the long game unlike sea. Is that it comes to this idea. So if Will sell you our property for a billion dollars I mean obviously, they'll say. A billion sheriff fine whatever. I mean hockey I mean how did they say like two billion which is like an exponentially a larger amount they're going to say no probably not. Go. She eight down to the one billion whatever they really wanted yet. But I mean how much they spend for Marvel and Star Wars. They've made their money back on those. Yes. But they've already but that's the thing they already have those markets now. So it's like you know they bought star, wars, marvel they said you know. Send. On the show just. Come on. Come on Disney we can finally have back Patty did. The thing is, is that. You're properties of value. Properties about because they do. Spiderman. Thing is. Be of value also become competitive properties to the properties already own. So I mean to put it to you simply the only reason to by DC it's. DC compete with marvel. They could DC charter yes. They could do that Charlie Charlie if they own both, do you think they care of morals beats DC or DC? Beats Marvel? No, the money's going the same place. Except that, they've already know. Divisions work now. They've already invested in all the marvel properties and to start to try to to try and and let's not forget Disney Marvel after they proved they had value true. You know they didn't. Make money. Let's. Make money. It's just not what they yet. Bigger in the red. But that's the thing. That tation the. In the right hands Disney is. These valuable. Yeah. But they're not in the right that's what I'm saying if Disney. Mom Dad has a has a has a thing that could be dangerous in the wrong hands and he's holding it. It's like, yes Disney DC holds things that would be great if DC wasn't holding it, but DC is holding it so they're not valuable. Could be better. I. Think. There's the potential for greatness there D. ticket by the raw material. Already great. There's a potential for excellence and there's a difference. There's a big green. Up Between Greg. Yes, peculiar can weekly local. The last couple years Warner has brought that brand down a little bit sir I mean. On the same token, we have things like the highly animated series. I, know. and. Bad. Making all great again. I will give the animated series prime. Book that will sell in and sell no matter how many four Three looks out right now different ones. Or something? Mini series but I don't know. But I I know after next week seventy, five reboot with a new number one in. Israel say okay if. So let's say, let's say let's counterfactual and say that Harley, the Harley Quinn movie did beat expectations. Never. Happened Science fiction no could have happened. Because people thought it was just email. Squat in suicide squad was garbage so. You can put more Merimee. Native Isla, Wall Street..

DC, is very much afraid to lose money, which is a weird thing for American Corporation did not. To be afraid of I mean yes. Losing money is not good but losing money is also sort of bakes into the American. Capitalist Structure Yeah but do you think big data money to make money? Yeah. But I mean if it's coming from higher up. Choice at the terrible choice though at some point like this has been of networks for about. Eight months did know they were going to actually do this? Love me you. Know but they actually gave up. Up here while it was its own thing, often its own content and. Sucks to be them but. Other than this email agencies. Actually. Pretty big news or and honestly for the. Or the forty fifty cent that's where you get your news. So. They actually are very big in politics, leave it out but anyway. Back. To back to the original story. Is it possible that at and T. basically bought Warner's and basically said? What we buy, why did we buy this? This is a mass. You know we we kind of we wanted we wanted those cable lines, but it's like the at the end of the day. This is this a bunch of content that is it's like walking into my comic book collection where there's just comics all over the floor. Ninety don't say. I'm not a collector I'm a reader and it's like i. read it once it's in the volts little. He reads them once you don't know where they go. Yeah Who knows but anyway and that's when Mandela gets to rewrite them for me. Mandela's a much better writer than most comic books you've ever read. They came in they said, this is a mess and it's like, okay. Well, what are we gonNA do with this mess because wars was making all kinds of decisions before we got here and for some reason before we got here, they decided to push through a bunch of decisions instead of just like what any? Sane. Would do his most sink corporations when they're about to get bought out. Okay. Don't make any big moves. Sit Let us hold our value. that it wasn't really his. Push that through. Right, hind it the knew what was going on and kind of said. Okay. Well that sucks. 'cause. Avian, pretty, decently structured company outside the before they did this mergers address. Okay. A lot of people are like they're singer gathered top and things like that but it wasn't like racist just jar chaos like i. just I just never seen such. Sony was in a state of disrepair. It was not as bad but I get the feeling. This is a lot of ripping off the kind of stuff. That's all it's GonNa hurt now. But now. What we're GONNA. Especially in the comic book world. I know again, that's the biggest company biggest. Designed by public and that's and that's the biggest thing that hit me this week is just like you know they're the domes next weekend and it's just like, oh? Hey, come celebrate with us at this virtual corn after we just laid off hundreds of people. Yeah. I mean I see nothing really I still don't all I know of DC fandom is apparently we get to walk around Titan Sour. Really big huge Berlitz is. Nearly. Done a push scour all over it. It's just it's panels on like the different shows and stuff right? Love. And again, it's but it's Ok Talk Whatever Disney does whatever that eat three thing that they do. That's what this was supposed. Louis had why would you do like this mass like you know lay offs in stopped like a week or two before you do this big con everybody's GonNa Nobody has the on Vincent. which is the only reason why I'm going to. I'm just waiting and waiting and not for nothing again, like I said, who's ever decision, it was to just blow up the company. So, everything all at once just. Like I said. Okay I've companies have been bought been many companies that have just recently been bought I bet companies that have been in transition and looking for buyers. Everytime in that spot the the main thing is okay this is what we do. We do we do. We're not going to do something new because it's going to be. We don't want to inject cast into this. You know. The most ever see is like someone's GonNa say what's push this bonus through? These days before the new boss. and Try to talk. Exactly know that kind of okay. I can get the idea that Oh let's let's launch a new service to compete with Disney was even. The works yes and That it's not even it's like it's just DC content. that. Almost assuming that Disney was just marvel- it's like the trying to one. Marvel. But. We're getting onto. College and get their visit ministry they wanted to they wanted to be there I, and it's like who cares if you're there I if you're. GonNa. Cases. Yeah is cramped. Yeah. They're not competing with marvel this thing I don't think moral thinks are competing with. Is. Eating with all media. Marvel is one of the things o'meara wants to do. It's be Disney's best henchmen. They want that doctor girlfriend spot. DC NOBODY Understands anything it's very appeared in. Can't, one Dino I didn't mind now my. Third. Time I used to say now I get it I'm still not gonNA. Apologize if he needed to go on. With a terrible idea and I'm glad they're not willing to do with that. At the cost of everything else I didn't want to be right at the cost of everything else. Chance. So now five G. now that I know that they're saying. This was like supposed to be the fifth generation of Super Heroes. Burns as Miami Janet. Yelling. On your phone like like you know the whole gimmick where someone takes over for the for the main hero, they were going to do that with a lot of their heroes at once. Yeah. What low I thought I saw an article today I, don't know if this is going to be a mini series now or announced worlds or something just like a off to the side thing but are they still print that Luke Fox takes over as Batman thing. Imagine actually to do that old tight to everything that's. In the family, let's be honest. They don't need that controversy the only. The only thing I could see them doing Bruce Wayne and Luke Fox. So they kind of have like their Peter Parker Miles, morales things that what they're trying to go for. Like. I don't know how old these people are..

'Birds of Prey' Review: Nihilism for Fun and Profit

"Movie reviews let's jump right into it Eric how you doing okay all right Steve how are you good all right so we can see prepare children we got the movie reviews here which we do every Sunday we'll talk box office as well we'll catch up when I was off last week for the Academy Awards but Steve you did see birds of prey the Harley Quinn thing yes hi would you think well I mean it this is a film that once very desperately for us to believe that it's a G. and twisted in the NBA wanted so much to kind of forget to actually be edgy and twisted it keeps telling us how it deals with the the the and that's not to say that the the latest DC comics movie century isn't doesn't have its moments but certainly Margot Robbie's is was among the highlights of this sort of a spin off of suicide squad and she was certainly one of the highlights of that film but it is fun at times I I I like I can honestly say I can't think of a movie I've seen more recently they are seen so many people work so hard to convince me they're having a good time and yet the it's sort of extraordinarily conventional at the same time unlike unlike suicide squad which is sort of put together by a government agency the birds of prey kind of come together more naturally joker isn't actually in the sermon and by the way I should make it clear we're talking at the joker not the current dot that most recent joker iteration but the jerit letto joker from a couple years ago but he's not in this it doesn't matter but that doesn't stop the screenwriter who Christine at Hudson who did bumble bee which is actually a pretty good script from from sort of leaning into his influence on this whole story when were re introduced a Harley Quinn she and and joke or have just broken up which apparently means that any protection that she has being affiliated with him is gone so suddenly all the criminals in Gotham when the killer and I'm not exactly sure why but she has done some horrible things in the past I guess one of the people she has wronged is there is a crime boss this play by you and McGregor who goes by the name black mask something of sort of a flashy party boy E. but he kind of seems to have one speed in one elevated volume when he speaks he basically like rip Taylor in a black skull mask so he's more obnoxious than threatening the the hit the side kick that's played by Christmas Cena whose actually way more sort of deviant sinister and then black mass gives but we don't really get to see him that much but the the what happens is that they these these email characters all kind of come together some of them are more superhero oriented like a crossbow wielding huntress is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and then there's care during black Canary's played by journey small at bell and there's a young girl name Cass who's play ballads a Bosko is a police detective Renee mon twenty it was played by Rosie Perez and I gotta say of all of all the of all those characters Winstead in parens really kind of stand out I guess not surprisingly and it's it's actually kind of really great just to be reminded how much of a presence Rosie Perez can be and that when given the chance and given this kind of exposure and and sort of elevated in this way there is a far more interesting aspects of birds of prey than just the action of the actions not bad there's sort of a subtext about what happens to people when they sustain prolonged abuse or other forms of violence most of lead characters are suffering from some form of PTSD or another in the sort of find unique ways to cope with that it's a it's a shared condition that brings these women together and bonds them and makes them not only surprisingly strong as a team but but it's also sort of a new weird little group therapy thing the film doesn't address this directly but it's sort of hard not to hard to miss it like get a you know a like most things in birds of prey it's not exactly subtle but anyway the the I guess of the action sequences are kind of a mixed bag of sort of standard issue cases in explosions in fighting and with a few sort of clever original and and a little bit bloody idea sort of sprinkled in but a few case you're in curious birds of prey is actually yes very rated R. the some there's some gory violence there's some liberal usage of four letter words but I'm guessing the under age folks who will be speaking into this movie will not be traumatized by anything that they see it's got a great Sir high energy soundtrack to really bombastic score by Daniel Pembleton and and enough sort of deviance from Robbie and company to the keep it interesting mobile when the problem with the film is the bad guy even the Gregory is terrible in this he looks like he's having a good time but you know the thing I hate more than anything else in the world in movies is watching someone have fun yeah because it does not this I don't know I don't know what someone on a roller coaster I want to get on the roller coaster like so that's sort of the problem here and okay when DC finally figures out their bad guy problem they're gonna probably for anyway but that to me it's a mixed review but but that's about I got a I don't know if it's positive or negative all

Already courting controversy, 'Joker' looks to open huge

"Kim Masters and this is the Hollywood breakdown joining me as Matt Bellamy of the Hollywood reporter and Matt Hat Joker Joker from Warner. Brothers looks like it is going to open really huge. This is a movie from Todd Phillips. It is very very dark and there has been a lot of alarm about whether this movie could incite violence and I hate to talk that way about a movie that hasn't opened yet that people people haven't seen but this is escalated into a serious thing and it's a thing that some of the executives at warners apparently were concerned about when they decided I did to make it in the first place. Yeah I have seen it and I understand why people are fearful of this movie. It is extremely dark extremely violent. It does offer a sympathetic portrait of this villainous killer but it's also extremely artistic and well-made and impactful impactful and if you talk to Todd Phillips he says you know it's not my responsibility to think about what the impact might or might not be of this film. It's is my responsibilities and artists to make a great film and I think that's where the debate is. Yeah I mean I I had heard from my sources. You know going back to this issue. Shula the decision to make it that warners kind of ambivalent about an actually came up with a low budget a relatively low budget about sixty million. I think maybe hoping hoping that it would kind of get killed because Toby Emmerich runs warner brothers and whom had to make this decision you know he he doesn't want to not be filmmaker. Friendly especially Todd Phillips has delivered some successful movies hangover and so it so he was a guy. They want to be in business with at the same time. I'm sure they're thinking about the brand and does this do something thing to the DC comics brand in fact the head of DC comics. We heard was initially very concerned on supposedly ultimately came around but he so whatever low the budget he may have said they they met it or they came close and and the thing did get made. It's almost like you know. Maybe he got toby. EMMERICK got a little bit pregnant with by saying I'm going to try and make this. An undesirable date and Todd Phillips is like I'm there for that day yeah and now it's probably going to be a big success. I mean I the movie got amazing reviews out of Venice one the festival it was named best film at the Venice Film Festival and it's probably going to have an Oscar campaign as well so right now it seems like a win for the studio but there is this other side where if you are making a movie that is based on Conic Comic Book Characters and and you take that Ip and turn it into a dark violent nihilistic and really disturbing portrait talk of a mentally ill murderer. Do you have any responsibility when you put that out into the world and and we'll say that warners has been very clear. This is an R. rated movie. It's not for children. There are no toys associated with this film they they are making clear in the marketing materials that it is not like your typical. DC comics movie but some kids are probably going to see this year. Yeah I mean the other thing is that they clearly were somewhat nervous about it because they sold old off half of it to other investors and there's other investors are probably happy right now and worse. We'll still make a lot of money but you you know that was a hedge against what if people really react negatively to this but however based on the early tracking the box office is going to be huge I will say. I don't know if the academy how they how how they react I mean they've done dark movies before. Joaquin Phoenix is seen as favourite Oscar race but sometimes controversy is bad for for for Academy Award Contenders sometimes and sometimes it might be the thing that breaks through the clutter and this is a visionary film so it might be the distinguishing factor yeah. I just hope this all this talk about. The potential for violence doesn't increase the potential for violence. Thank you matt. Thank you Melanie aditorial director of the Hollywood reporter.

So so was that his thing you'd have a beard. I mean, so his look I mean guys find for whatever it is. He played up barbarian character on game of thrones. And then he got the role for aquaman any played aquaman and Justice league. And then in the Auckland movie is that part of your whole deal. No, that's DC. Dismissive Toronto run run thought he was telling Garrett something that you'd be scared say, you know, as a marvel comic nerd, so he thought he was telling you something that that he'd wanna know. And you kind of explain to me. What should I am is? And what it's trying to do. Sure. I mean, I kind of had the. To do the same thing after watching the movie because like right around the time the post credits scene with a evil Caterpillar happened. I was kinda like I've no idea what any of this stuff is. So thankfully, Mike does have a a piece on the ring dot com. A great website kind of breaking down the kind of Kazan origins. But yeah, he's he was actually originally called captain marvel and like in the movie there was like a wizard named 'schisms who gave him like all these superpowers. But when he sorta got folded into DC comics because marvel had its own captain marvel he then became Zam. But the whole spiel is basically the same thing like the wizards powers you activate it by saying Zam, and then I guess in the big conversion you just become buff, Zachary Levi. Yeah, I didn't even know buff Zachary Levi was going to be a thing that I would ever have to talk about. I can't say when I was watching Chuck ten years ago. That this ever crossed my mind that he would be a superhero, I think Tony Lee. This movie is pretty significantly different from superman vs Batman and the Justice league films and even wonder woman, which I thought was you know, is a very charming and obviously hugely successful movie. But there is a lightness in the tone, and it's not quite as operatic goofy. As was l-. You know, what did you make of the kind of movie that Sam was trying to be yet? No, I thought it was fun at kind of had like almost throwback Amblin entertainment coming of age vibe like something you'd see from like Amblin in like the eighties. But with the caveat that instead of a kid going on venture or something he can just become a superhero. But I thought it was a it was it was kind of an appropriate tone for for the kind of here that this guy is and I kind of like that, you know, a kid like a teenager becoming Kazan like he has like a bit of an aimlessness to him at the beginning. Like, there's not the sort of great power with great with great power comes great responsibility type speech. You just sorta has to learn things on the fly Yemen. One of the first things that the character does after he realizes his powers as he just goes to a convenience store in buys beer and candy. And you know, I it, you know, the movies clearly pitched as sort of what if big, but superhero, and it's very effective in showing us like maybe not with the real world ramifications would be because it's a little bit different in tone in the real world. But some of the like aspirations that you have as an adolescent, and the things that you wish you could do when you were thirteen sham does for the first hour of this movie, and the movie ultimately just becomes a story about like friendship and the way that we act bigger and older than we are. And what we can get away with in that time. And then it does turned into a little bit of a superhero movie. What did you make of the kind of balancing of those tones? Yeah. I mean, I think I did prefer sort of the the first half of the move. In that respect, as you know, there are so many superhero movies out there. And I think for the most part it's sorta gets derivative to when the movie gets the guy discovers his powers, you know, like Peter Parker, like scaling skyscrapers type of thing. But it was fun for Suzanne because it felt very like very genuine response. What if a fourteen year old kids suddenly had powers like, yeah? He would try to buy beer. He would go to script strip club in like beam about the chicken wings because this is a PG thirteen movie. You know, if he's in a world where superman Batman exists, and he doesn't really know. What to do is? You just if he can't find people to save is he just going to he's going to try to make cash and become a YouTube star. It was an interesting approach. But I think like I preferred that half of the movie versus like, the Mark strong shows up with seven CGI deadly sin, archetypes, or whatever. And it's time to punch him a lot. Yeah. I agree. I don't think part was active. It's funny because it feels like a movie like this, which is not exactly a reinvention. But is a is a reconsidering of what these kinds of movies can be still does arrive and its conclusion at the notion that needs to feature a lot of punching and a lot of fighting the bad guy. I'm curious to see if as we grow inside, the D C E U, I guess much like Zam. If they'll ever change the the the approach that they take having kind of the final showdown in the final forty five minutes of the movie that was also one of my struggles. Honestly with wonder woman, which I thought as I said was really clever and well made and then ultimately just turned into Diana fighting a demon monster who was played by David through Lous. What do you make of the decisions that DC is now making to singular is each of their movies? I mean, it's interesting because like, you know, they they did a pretty quick pivot from like fast-tracking their Justice league movie which end up being like relative to the expectations a bit of a bomb for them. Also, it didn't really track critically. But you know, they're kind of like making these films that have this very little interconnectivity like aquaman was only really playing the seeds for Auckland to and I guess a trench spinoff, which I could go on like a twenty minutes handed about the trench about the trend. Can't wait for the trench. And like kind of the same thing with wonder woman sequel in feels that way, which is. To you know, if it does well enough at the box office like affiliates just leading into sham two or maybe like a black atom movie, which is like a sham villain. That's supposed to be played by Dwayne Johnson. If you look at like the C projects that are in the air like a rebooted suicide squad, James Gunn, new bad movie. Perhaps a flash movie there's all these other projects like the one glaring omission is there are no plans to make like a Justice league to and not to say that would never happen again. But clearly like the D C you right now is content. Just kind of throwing stuff out there and seeing what resonates with audiences yet. If you look down there slate, we talked about this a little bit during the release of aquaman, but I was just in add an in Vegas at cinema Khan. And they were very proud of the approach that they were taking telling their stories because the next the next handful of movies. They have is of course, Zam, and you know, they also have joker which is coming in October. Which also feels quite standalone seems to have virtually nothing in common with the movie Lakesha Zam. And then there's also a birds of prey which is. Theon story of sort of five superhero team that will also include Margot Robbie Harley Quinn, and that totally and visually looks completely different from those other two movies. And so they've taken this decision to not just make that flash movie and not just make whatever inevitable green lantern movie. And with the same kind of stormy visualises that that Zack Snyder created, but to just kind of individually each story, which is what a lot of comic books are actually a lot of comic books have separate illustrators. They have separate writers their tones are quite different amazing spider. Man could be quite different from x men and superman could be quite different from, you know, detective comics, and what's going on with that, man. And of course, I guess next year late next year. We'll have the Batman which Matt Reeves Batman movie. Do you know, your your very closely track the comp films for us is it more interesting to you of all of this the fits together or do you like it better? If it stands alone and the movies get to be what they are. Well, I. Kind of like maybe I just have a bit of a marble fatigue. Just because it feels like we've been preparing for endgame like just just forever. But yeah, I kind of like this approach because you know, like, if something doesn't, you know resonate with with audiences like I personally wasn't as big of a fan as as wonder woman as other people were which is fine. You know, I I like parts of it. But, but you know, for the most part people really enjoyed it. And I think you know, it's an interesting approach. I think what will probably be most interesting is with wonder woman command and Zam they've all been pretty well received. And they've made a good amount of money. I'm curious what happens like how the DC EU responds when something flops with critics audiences in the box office. Do they like shake it off? Or if it's like, if it's bracing a certain tone, like, you know, let's say joker is actually quite terrible. And and you know, it's like a Scorsese prestige that. Just kind of doesn't work like will the DC you kinda void being that experimental. Again. I I'm curious to see what happens when there's kind of like a speed bump on the road for them. I am too is an interesting question because it does seem like in with Shas AM and most likely joker and handful of these other movies. They don't come with that two hundred and fifty million dollar production price tag. You know, they're definitely smaller movies with more modest ambitions, at least in terms of the execution of the movie. And so the risk is lower. So if let's say joker is not the sort of world-beating, cultural colossus that many would have us believe this week. That's okay. I think that they could probably survive that. And it's an you're right. It is a really interesting pivot away from all of that interconnectiveness. Is there anything else about his that you you really liked and you responded to? Yeah. I really like that, you know, I thought Zachary Levi was was just so good at like kind of capturing basically like, you know, a kid in a swollen dealt spot ended it so well like there were times where you almost felt to childlike for guy who's still like fourteen years old, but you could tell he was just having such a blast. And and yeah, I would have never expected Chuck would be like a swollen superhero. But I never expected Jim from the office to like, you know, make some hard movie also become buffer like Michael bay film. So I I guess, you know sick. I'm stars. They can transform. Yeah. Could you cast a sitcom debauche sitcom figure into into a superhero movie right now is there? Anybody springs to your mind? Is Jim Parsons our next. Green lantern. You think? Oh god. No, no. I'm trying to think of like if someone from parks and rec ado that transformation that isn't Chris Pratt. Because I mean, he's he's just forget about this point. He's he's like a discount printing. Frazier. But he he has done that as well. I mean, I guess maybe if if Adam Scott were cast as as galactic that would probably that. That's as close as we're gonna get
