Ricky Stenhouse Jr. wins longest Daytona 500 in history
"Ricky Stenhouse junior had attempted 11 Daytona 500s before Sunday's great American race but when the caution came out and double overtime on the final lap, he just edged ahead of Joey Logano to take the win. It's been a dream for a long time and it's super, super cool for us to be here. Stenhouse said early in the race he missed direct because he was speeding on pit road and serving as penalty. Everything played out perfectly for us at the end of that. I mean, it's a Daytona 500. It's a long race. You're going to have good parts and bad parts, but we just, you know, we just kept pushing through. Logano said the caution came out just a split second too late for him to be the one that benefited as he and Stenhouse traded positions. Bowman, Larson give Hendrick sweep of front row at Daytona
"Time trials for the 2023 Daytona 500 are complete and Alex Bowman will lead the field to the green on Sunday as his teammate Kyle Larson paces on the outside of row one. As a driver, really all you can do is get the best launch you can, hit your shift points right. And try to run the best you can, not mess it up. Bowman's 181.696 mph lap puts him on the front row for a record of 6 straight times. I would love to be able to sit here and take a little bit of credit and I feel like my launch was okay and my shifts were good, but man, it's really on the team guys they get the job done. Florida hotel guest killed by forklift doing storm repairs
"A Florida hotel guest was killed by a forklift. I'm Lisa dwyer. Authorities say a guest at an oceanfront hotel in Florida has died after being run over by a forklift working on storm repairs. Daytona Beach shores public safety officials say the 62 year old woman was struck Monday while walking through the parking lot of the beach haven inn, the hotel is located next to the Atlantic Ocean and sustained damage during a tropical storm in September. Officials say the forklift was transporting roofing materials for storm repairs and the driver apparently did not see the woman before running her over. Police say the victim, Jerry gillan already knew of the plan. From what I was told, he was aware of it, apparently the goal was for him to do it, but he did not have the strength. So she had to carry it out for him. His wife, Ellen, shot him once in the head before barricading herself in the room, while police tried to negotiate with her. They say at no time did she make threats to police or hospital staff, but she refused to drop the weapon. He died three days after his family's attorney says police made a traffic stop that Nichols was scared and ran, officers caught him and beat him up badly. In September, hurricane Ian caused more than $40 billion in damage across Florida. To cover the bill, it's widely expected insurance premiums are going to go up in the sunshine state. Another disaster was already threatening to make housing unaffordable for many. Last year, champlain tower south, the 40 year old condominium in the city of surfside, collapsed in the middle of the night. 98 people were killed. More than a year later, no one knows why the building fell. We wondered why it was taking so long to find an answer. Tonight, you'll hear from the engineers leaving the local and federal investigations and see how the surfside mystery is impacting Florida condo owners. This is surveillance video from a nearby building. Look just beyond the pool, the middle of the condo collapses, disappearing into dust. Seconds later, the oceanside wing seems to melt to the ground. It was about one 30 in the morning. I am sound asleep and I hear this awful noise and I didn't know what it was. It felt like a mountain coming down. And two seconds later, all I remember is literally being thrown out of my bed and landing in front of the bed. Risa Rodriguez lived on the 9th floor in the part of the building that somehow remained standing. And there's a small balcony. So I stepped out in my brain just compute what I was looking at. I said to myself, where's the building? You know, screaming at this time, where's the building? The elevators were gone, the stairwells clogged with concrete. And there's no way for you to get out of the building. It's always fun to get out. And I think I just snapped into, okay, this is the situation. I'm terrified. I don't want to die tonight. So Rodriguez started navigating away down, helping an elderly neighbor through dark hallways and over the debris and stairwells. It took more than two hours before they reached the floor low enough to be rescued with a ladder. Today, this is all that's left of the building. A concrete scar in the ground. The biggest concern appears to be beach erosion, which is eaten away at protective sea walls, including one that collapsed this morning and took a house with it in Wilbur by the sea near Daytona Beach, Phil hader saw it happen. Framing loud and shook this thing pretty well, so it's pretty frightening. High rise condo buildings in and near Daytona Beach were evacuated before the storm because of the same concerns. The storm is expected to hit Georgia and the Carolinas next. While inflation may be easing, but the fed still planning another rate hike next month. Financial analyst John Mayer. Likely they will probably take their foot off the pedal a bit. We're not expecting a halt to rate increases, but perhaps you'll see 25 or 50 basis points in the next meeting. Russia claims it's now withdrawing from a key Ukrainian city, NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg. What is clear is that Russia is under heavy pressure. And if they leave her son, it would be another victory for Ukraine. But Ukrainian officials are worried this could be a trap. Japan and the U.S. are now conducting a major joint military exercise. It's a consumer protection lawsuit, an AG Karl Racine is just announced it in the last hour. With this lawsuit, we're standing up for D.C. residents who were repeatedly lied to and deceived. They have a right to know the truth about the companies. They support with their hard earned dollars, the commanders, mister Snyder, the National Football League, and Roger Goodell deprive them of this right. Racine says Snyder misled D.C. consumers when he denied knowing anything about allegations of a toxic workplace, not only does Racine say Snyder knew about it, he participated in it in a preemptive statement yesterday, the commander say they have fully cooperated with the AG's investigation for nearly a year and that's the AG has quote fundamental misunderstandings of the underlying facts. Many people went to the polls with abortion bans in mind, but that was not impacting Virginia's governor and his plans for the future. Governor youngkin campaigned with Republicans across the country before the midterms, and now post election, he's getting ready for January's legislative session in Richmond, telling WTO he's hoping to sign legislation that would limit abortion access. Youngkin says he wants a ban on most abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy with exceptions for rape incest and when the life of the mother is at risk. We're going to continue to work on this and I think we've done one thing. Virginians want fewer abortions that more and I think this is a good place for Virginia to land. "Curious anymore, because well, now you know, right? No, it's not new anymore, and you begin to get engaged a bit. You're going to get more interested. Your interest begins to grow as this happens. And people want to know about you and you want to know more about them. Always happens. A lot of folks don't want to push through that process, but once we're curious, then we just have to get to that point of enlightenment and we begin to feel it grow. What's the next step? We're there. Number three, commitment. The C word. So after we're curious, you met somebody, you know, maybe you're in business, you send out a flyers and an email or something, somebody contacted you, they went to preliminary information. And you kind of start the small talk and start moving people down the road. Or you met a girl or met a guy in the same thing, hey, man, let's get together. It's really fun. You want to get together again. Sure. Do it a couple times, you get enlightened, you say, man, not this really kind of cool. I like this. Or not, you go the other way. Interest begins to grow. People just start to have a better relationship. Then commitment comes around. If it keeps going, and this is what every relationship I tell people when they say, should I go faster, should I go slower? I said, just take your time and enjoy yourself. If it's going to get better, it's just going to go on forever, right? And if it's not, it's just going to unwind, you'll know. So don't push it. Don't worry about it. Just do these things. Curiosity enlightenment then commitment comes when you get more knowledge and you're going to naturally deeper connection. You'll see it happen. You feel it all the time. Not every single time, but in the right time she do. Not with everybody. You don't get that far with everybody. But if you're going to, the commitment will arrive after you've gone through those preliminary steps. And finally, the final step in this whole process that makes the whole thing come together is, is action. What do you mean by that Scott action? The guys are thinking, I know what they actually is. The girls are thinking the ring, maybe. I don't know. So with action, it comes after you've reached commitment. Because once you've reached that commitment level, people become very open and willing to join you in your world. And that's exactly what happened to me when I met my wife joy. We got along great, very curious and really liked hanging out with each other and has time went on. Interests began to grow and we began to see, hey, this is a pretty good match. It's going to work out pretty well. And then eventually, a few months in the commitment came. As connections got deeper, now 15 years later in four grandchildren and multiple houses and all kinds of crazy things have been on our past and she joined my world, I joined hers. I'd never forget the day where the ocean deck and Daytona Beach and I got up and went to the restroom and as I was coming back to the reggae band was playing the electric slide on the dance floor and I stopped and did the electric slide for a couple of steps and said, I got to ask that girl to marry me and I walk back to the table and I did. But I tied a straw wrapper around her finger. And she said, well, mister Smith I marry you tomorrow. She didn't, she took about a year to marry me, but nonetheless, you know, but it's okay. Whether it's personal or business, every relationship evolves on the same path. Curiosity enlightenment commitment and action pay attention to that and you will do very, very well. What's coming up tomorrow? I don't know you. I can't find it on my thing here. It's got me prepared. I am. I just can't fight it right now, okay. Oh, it's wisdom. Why wisdom is your superpower? "You know you're in a living in a weird time and a distorted phase of the culture when you can see in the media, all kinds of people bashing FBI whistleblowers. I mean, did you think you'd live to see this? You'd have FBI whistleblowers. Who are telling what's going on on the inside of this top police agency. And the media is beating up, not on the FBI. But on the whistleblowers. Wow. So we've come a long way since the 1960s when the there were all these left wing investigations of the FBI of the CIA, whistleblowers were hailed as heroes. They were brought forward. They were treated as truth tellers, which in many cases, of course they are. And I want to focus on one of those FBI, a real hero, but someone who's not getting the hero's treatment. So this is a guy named Steve friend. He's an FBI special agent. And this guy noticed that something funny was going on in the FBI. I mean, he could see it in the cases that he dealt with directly. He's a 12 year veteran of the FBI, he's a S.W.A.T. team member. And he has been suspended, stripped of his gun and badge, escorted out of the FBI office in Daytona Beach for what? Basically for blowing the whistle on the FBI. Now, let's look at why Steve friend is taking such a risk. He's taking a risk of basically blowing up his career, a career that is meant a lot to him. He's the father of two small children, and as I mentioned, he's been over a decade with the FBI. So why would he do that? Well, the reason he's doing it is because he is showing giving direct firsthand information about how this agency has gone rogue.

Okay so a guy got pulled over because there was a report of a stolen vehicle on sunday morning and They there was a report of a stolen vehicle. This guy was walking around. He was closed and they were like. Hey we need as use them questions. It got his idea and they're like oh you not the guy that still car. But there's a warrant out for your arrest for stealing from where glenn. Where did the guy steal from walmart. I was just insane so he get ready gets arrested prominent outstanding warrant for stealing from a walmart. And they're like okay. Well you can post bail. It's two hundred dollars. So he's oh. I've got enough money to post two hundred dollars bail. And then he paid with two one hundred dollars pills and they were like these are counterfeit so he tried to pay his own vail. We counterfeit money. He was then denied bail and returned to jail with the additional charge of forgery. Smart do you remember. In the old days it used to be kmart. Should Emergency Rooms Be Equipped to Deal with Addiction?
"Visits to hospital emergency departments plummeted. But a new study shows more people than ever are turning up at hospitals seeking help for drug addiction and overdoses. NPR addiction correspondent Brian Mann found many emergency doctors have struggled to respond. Emergency departments are great at treating things like chest pains and asthma attacks After the pandemic hit. A lot of those people stopped showing up at hospitals. They were scared of catching the coronavirus. But Kristin Holland, a researcher at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, says patients experiencing addiction needed help. So desperately They kept coming. The thing that really stood out to me about all drug overdoses and opioid overdoses. Those were the only two for which we saw. An increase. Holden study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, analyzed roughly 190 million emergency room visits. The data shows even people who didn't catch the coronavirus were hit hard by the pandemic. People are indeed experiencing poor mental health, suicidal thoughts, substance use, potentially as a coping mechanism. But there's a problem. Experts say Many emergency departments aren't well staffed or trained to help patients with these kinds of problems. Dr. Mark Rosenberg is president of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Emergency physicians have always been able to treat the overdose, but we did not have tools to treat the addiction. Or the dependency. Rosenberg's organization has worked for years to convince emergency departments to improve addiction care. But he says, reform has come slowly. He points to the fact that most emergency doctors still don't use buprenorphine. It's a drug proven to help people with opioid addiction, avoid relapse. Only one third patients get medications for Opioid use disorder in the emergency department. Experts say regulatory hurdles and stigma around people with drug use disorders have kept many emergency departments from improving their addiction care. Dr Stephen Veal heads the emergency team at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. I think there was a lot of hesitancy because it's not what we've done. It's not what I've trained in, and it seems like somebody else should do it. But I think that what finally pushed emergency physicians out of their comfort zone to do something is just the number of people that we've seen die. After a spate of overdose deaths. Three years ago, Veal changed his department using buprenorphine and also adding a new member to his team. Larry Brooks is a trained addiction counselor who now works with patients in the ER as soon as they're revived the overdose patients that comment to an emergency room They're at their most vulnerable. They're at their lowest point that they've ever experienced. You know, the you know, been dead. Or at least near dead. And brought back to life during the pandemic. Brooks Hospital has seen a new spike in drug cases, Brooke says. It's made a big difference. Having an addiction program in place. This is the best time for us. As health organization and a community as a whole. To make an impact and say, Look, somebody is here. You're not going to get kicked right back out the door and go into withdrawal and have to find something else and then be back here in two hours, But experts say emergency Department addiction programs like this are still rare. CDC researcher Kristin Holland says she hopes data from her study will convince more hospitals to change our takeaway from this is meeting people where they are and if people are coming to the emergency department for these outcomes, that's where we need to meet them. I watched the game the way it was played. And It was A change, going back and forth, shooting the basketball. High speed shooting the basketball And it made me think that's the way the NBA game is played. And You know it. It seems to me that this along with other criticisms you might make about Kentucky basketball right now. You have to recruit. Play that style of basketball. I mean, that's the way the game is going, you know, just like in football years ago. You know what he Hayes was a football coach in there, Brian Nowadays, if you can't throw the football, you're not getting anywhere near anything on today's game is about shooting the basketball and to have a team that Kentucky That can't shoot the basketball. He's smart, and he's savvy and you know you have a forward who can shoot the basketball more traditional college style game. Ah, but I'm telling you, I'm looking at basketball games all over the country College games. And it's just simply bad bass. Not a good product, right? It's just ugly basketball. So you're right. Kentucky's not the only one there but I only care about and you know, and Jimmy Dykes on and people have different feelings about him. I like Jimmy a lot of liked him since he was here on any sudden staff. He pointed out on broadcast the other night that out of the 10 teams. I mean, they make a lot of money I would imagine off of that. But I'm not exactly what this does is. It makes me think about Just recently we explored going to Disney world. It's about a around an hour drive roughly from where we were at in Daytona Beach when we're down there, so I looked into it and The thing is most of the Eating most of the restaurants and all of that on property are closed. It's such an abbreviated version of what Disney world is, so you would think, OK, well, they're giving you a big break on when you stay on property when you know I didn't do any of that. So now they're saying that they're getting rid of Disneyland Anyway. Now Disney world different because that's in Orlando, Disney Land out west in California. They're canceling all the annual passes due to the pandemic, and then they're saying they're gonna what they're doing, and I look out yourself lucky if you're one of the people that's going to get your money back the re funding The money for the people who had those annual passes, and then they're saying that they're probably going to just get rid of this altogether. The pass holder program, they're just getting rid of it. Again. You have to ask. All right. What? What exactly? "18th 1999 your senior of high school at Frasier. Hi. What happened, Jack? I was the kid that your mother would have said Don't hang out with that night. I was looking for approval and all the wrong places because I was doing all the wrong things as it pertained to drug dealing and drug using, and as drug dealers did During spring break, we went down to Daytona Beach. And at that time I had a resort. Um, all my friends were with me and we were doing everything that you shouldn't do all types of less chip business where we live in and And I was cutting myself, Jack. I begin to cut myself with razors because when I did the barbiturates, I was hallucinating and I would cut myself and I was bleeding. And there was a security guard. They came up to me and he said, Hey, You gotta be. Oh, I said, What do you mean? I gotta leave. This is my room. This is the result. I paid for it. He said no, he said if somebody gets hurt or you get hurt, you're liable. You gotta go. So we walked out in front of the resort in Daytona Beach, Jack and he said to me these words Can I pray for you? And Jack. At that moment, I was offended. I said, Who do you think you are? Do you understand who I am? And I begin the wave the money I had on me and I begin to tell him about the girls that were with me and I begin to boast and brag about my drug dealing. And he said no. I'm not trying to offend you. Can I pray for you? On. I put my hands out, Jack, and he began to pray for me and Jack. That was the first moment in my life that I felt that drug dealing was wrong. I experienced what I didn't know then as the conviction of the Holy Spirit I begin to feel guilty. For what I did. And I asked Jesus Christ to come into my life. And one week later April 18th. I went to the largest church in metro Detroit. My grandmother went there. I never been there before. With straight Gate Church Bishop and you're married right on Grand River and living noise and he was preaching. I had drugs in my pocket. I walked down the aisle and gave my heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. And at that moment, I knew that my life had been changed forever. That same day, Jack, I went to the guy was selling drugs for his name was Larry Delusion. I went to him and I said, Larry, I'm done. I'm out of this. I was afraid that I was going to lose my life that day, and Larry said Lorenzo, I really cute. And it was at that moment that I receive the boldness to believe that Jesus Christ had a higher calling for me. It was at that moment that I experienced the high that was greater than anything else because it came from the most high. Lorenzo. My own admission. You made more money in high school. And you're thinking that was a senior pastor of Funny. Okay, why haven't you reverted back? The street life and a street pharmacist. That's a very good question. What I realized that I had everything on the outside, but I wasn't the only inside. I had the money. Had the girls had the recognition. Even now, I have the texture. I know your leaders. I know your viewers can't see it. But the tattoo of the gang that I was leading at the time. And When I walked into places, people feared me. I had the power on the prestige and the recognition. Jack. I was empty. Was empty on the outside. I have the cars. I had the finances. But empty and yes, I did have money. But I didn't have a mission. That's one of the reasons I never reverted back. Because now I have a purpose and a destiny. That money cannot have you. We're talking to Pastor Lorenzo so well, who then went on during a B A in General Bible Studies from Destiny University and then A great mutual friend, Pastor Doug Schmidt took a chance on you and hired you as the lead pastor at Woodside Bible churches. Pontiac Dream Center. Tell us about Pastor Doug Schmidt. Well, there's nobody like him. I owe him such a great a great gratitude and great debt because I was the first African American pastor in them all white, large megachurch. And he understood that in order for a wood side to be effective in Pontiac, they needed an African American leader. And it was in those moments, Jack that we were able to learn what it meant to take someone from crises to Christ. Like this said that moment in Pontiac that I realized That my calling in my purpose it was about connecting other Lorenzo's so to speak with the Lord Jesus Christ. What's the single biggest thing that Doug Schmidt taught you, Lorenzo? Very good question. The single biggest thing that he taught me was humility. Give God the glory. Do not give yourself to glory. But two Give got all the praise And as I was thinking about this interview Begin to reflect on how God has selected to do what he's doing. We learned in Pontiac through Woods at Bible Church in through becoming The pastor of the community that people they had needs that were so deep that we could never understand. So we wanted to have a place where people can have wraparound services for a turnaround. So God allowed us to have a laundromat, a computer lab, medical and dental facility. Amend Suit Warehouse of Women's boutique, also recreation. That led to education for our young people. And Jack, We really didn't know what we were doing as I've mentioned before, when you have a larger white, the nomination in terms of Woodside. We have a larger white church and you have Me that is a black pastor. We were going into a black community having no idea what to do. So we learned how to listen. We learn how to listen to the community. So the dream center Is a manifestation off listening to an impoverished community and we learned so much about what it means to meet the needs of people and the dreams that are still being led today. All right. You talk about the community of Pontiac. Pontiac is like the hole in the middle of the donut. And the donut has wealth all around it. Okay from Troy Bloomfield Hills.
